Curtis L. Beller, 50, of Buffalo died July 19, 2003, at home of an apparent heart attack.
He was a lifelong resident of Putnam County and a 1969 graduate of Buffalo High School. He attended West Virginia State College and Teays Valley Baptist College where he received a theological degree. He was an amateur body builder and a former Mr. West Virginia in the heavyweight division. He was a member of Buffalo Baptist Church, where he was a former deacon and taught Sunday school for several years. He was owner-operator of American National Insurance agency in Teays Valley, where he was a licensed insurance agent with the designation of Chartered Financial Consultant, CLU, LUTCF, and past president of the West Virginia Chapter of the National Association of Life Underwriters (NALU).
Surviving: wife, Elizabeth “Marie” Gritt Beller; mother, Naomi Runion Beller of Hometown; daughters, Krista Collins and husband, Andy, of Concord, North Carolina, and Erin Beller-Boone and husband, Jeff, of Huntersville, North Carolina; brothers, Gary Beller of Red House and Larry Beller of Burkittsville, Maryland; grandchildren, Jared and Olivia of Concord, North Carolina.
Service was held Tuesday, July 22, 2003, at Raynes Funeral Home, Buffalo, with Pastor Tim Day and Pastor Jeff Arthur officiating. Burial was in Buffalo Memorial Park.

Avanelle Pearl Richmond Dodds
Avanelle Pearl Richmond Dodds, 71, of Huntington, wife of Robert “Bob” Dodds passed away Tuesday, July 15, 2003, at St. Mary’s Medical Center. Funeral Services were Saturday, July 19, 2003, at Henson Mortuary with the Dr. Ed Grant and Rev. Ralph Sager officiating. Burial in White Chapel Memorial Gardens. She was born March 12, 1932 at Spurlockville, W.Va., in Lincoln County. She was the daughter of the late James Hallie and Mabel Edith Scragg Richmond. She was a retired Licensed Practical Nurse of 29 years with St. Mary’s Hospital. She also attended St. Mary’s School of Nursing. She was a member of Steele Memorial United Methodist Church, a volunteer for ECCHO food pantry in Milton, and a 1948 graduate of Barboursville High School. Additional survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, James “Jim” and Carol Dodds of Virginia Beach, Va.; two daughters and sons-in-law, Brenda and Butch Morning of Milton and Beverly and Dick McGhee of Barboursville; nine grandchildren, Glenn Dodds and wife Emily of Virginia Beach, Va., Jason Dodds of Glen Burnie, Md., Spec. Christopher McGhee of Germany, Amanda and Holly Morning of Milton, W.Va., Corey and Casey McGhee of Barboursville, W.Va., Pvt. Shannon Turner of Fort Jackson, S.C., and Sandra DeLoach of Virginia Beach, Va.; great-granddaughter, Kathleen Brooke “Katie” Dodds of Virginia Beach, Va. She is also survived by a sister and brother-in-law, Agnes R. and Howard Lovejoy of Huntington.

Alma Lucille Burks Wolfe
Alma Lucille Burks Wolfe, 89, of Barboursville, passed away July 16, 2003, in Chateau Grove Personal Care Home. Funeral services were conducted Friday, July 18, 2003, at the Wallace Funeral Home and Chapel by the Rev. Craig Coster and the Rev. Harry Rowe. Burial in White Chapel Memorial Gardens. She was born September 30, 1913, in Cabell County, a daughter of the late Frank and Melissa Ford Burks. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ivan Wolfe. She was a retired LPN, having worked at St. Mary’s and Cabell Huntington Hospitals, Job Corps Industries and Houdaille Industries. She was a member of Barboursville Baptist Church and also a past Head of Nutrition Program for the Barboursville CCCESO. She is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Ralph Doyle and Sandra Wolfe of Manning, S.C., and one daughter and son-in-law, Lynn Wolfe and David Andrews of Huntington; seven grandsons; 12 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-granddaughters. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Huntington, Huntington City Mission, or Barboursville Baptist Church.

Hearld Perry
Hearld Perry, 93, of Milton went home to be with the Lord Monday, July 14, 2003, in Wayne Continuous Care Center, Wayne, W.Va. Funeral service were conducted Thursday, July 17, 2003, at Heck Funeral Home, Milton, with the Rev. Joe Dolen and Rev. Windell Shull officiating. Burial in the Wyant-Irwin Cemetery, Milton. Hearld was born February 25, 1910, in Cabell County, W.Va, a son of the late Kemper and Lenora Crowder Perry. He retired from ACF with 28 years of service. He was also preceded in death by his wife of 64 years, Dorothy Mae Chapman; one son John Clinton Perry; and one daughter, Susie Marie Perry; one son-in-law, Boyd Newman Caldwell; seven sisters, Willie Perry, Virginia Akers, Luvada Moffatt, Inez Chapman, Cobra Thomas, Flossie Miser and Elsie Chapman; four brothers, Arvil Perry, Haze Perry, Woodrow Perry and his twin brother Gearld Perry. Hearld is survived by one daughter, Betty Perry Caldwell of Kenova; one son and daughter-in-law, Gearld Louis and Delores Perry of Milton; three grandchildren, Allen Boyd Caldwell of Kenova, Deborah Ann Wyant and her husband Mark, Karen Yvonne Conrad and her husband Devin of Milton; five great-grandchildren, Brittany Nicole Caldwell, Kolby and Taylor Wyant and Logan and Lakyn Conrad; and four sisters, Zelma Bevacqua, Nannie Eathel Boster and Mary Belville, all of Huntington and Margie Reynolds of Barboursville. Cloteal Baylous Enochs
Cloteal Baylous Enochs, 63, of Salt Rock, went to be with the Lord Friday, July 11, 2003, at Norton Hospital, Louisville, Ky. Funeral services were conducted Wednesday, July 16, 2003, at the Wallace Funeral Home and Chapel by Rev. Bob Bondurant. Burial in Baylous Cemetery. She was born June 4, 1940, in Delaware, Ohio, a daughter of the late Wetsel and Lelia Cremeans Baylous. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Norman Ray Enochs and one brother, Keith Baylous. She was a member of Gloryway Baptist Church and was active in the Cabell-Lincoln Work Camp Christian Organization. She is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, James and Gail Enochs of Salt Rock and Stephen and Monika Johannesen of Hendersonville, Tenn.; two daughters and one son-in-law, Colleen Papke of Cypress, Texas and LyDonna and Floyd Nohelty of Brandenburg, Ky.; one brother, James Natchee Baylous of Salt Rock; two granddaughters, Jessica Papke and Erin Enochs; and five grandsons, Mason, Lane and Jace Johannesen, Cody Hammond and Kyle Papke. Pallbearers were Kyle Papke, Charles Sowards, Randy Baylous, Barry Baylous and Allen Elkins.
You were our rock, our foundation of love and strength. You taught us to always hold our heads high keep our hearts warm and open and our minds full of music and color. We love you and will miss you, but rest in God’s arms and we will see you again. Your children.

Wade Null Sr.
Mr. Wade Null, Sr. 70, of Nitro passed away July 9, 2003, at his camp in Hinton, the place he loved.
Wade was retired from the Painters Local No. 970, an Army veteran, an avid hunter and fisherman, and a loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, and loved by all who knew him.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Elmer and Hazel Null; and brother, Max Null.
He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Cora Jones Null; two children, Wade “Binky” Null and companion, Jody Reynolds of Nitro and Tina M. Gandee of Nitro; special friend Angie Asbury; two sisters, Lorene Asbury of Nitro and Janet Arthur of Cross Lanes; one brother, Elmer Dale Null of Teays Valley; two grandsons, Douglas H. Null and David C. Null and companion Ashley Haynes; and one great-grandson, Alexander C. Null.
Memorial service was conducted Sunday, July 13, 2003, at Gatens Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Harold B. White Jr. officiating.
Gatens Funeral Home, Poca, WVa., was in charge of arrangements.

Nancy Ellen Shannon
Mrs. Nancy Ellen Shannon departed this earthly life and entered into her heavenly abode Friday morning, July 11, 2003, at Heartland of Beckley, following an extended illness.
Mrs. Shannon was a member of Teays Valley Church of the Nazarene. She was a retired West Virginia state employee with 12 years of service.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Rev. William T. Shannon; three sisters, Edna McPherson, Ada Post, and Rosa Snider; two brothers, Ray Maze and Roy Maze.
She is survived by one daughter, Ruth Shannon Cowan of Cleveland, Ga.; three sons, Paul of Manning, S.C., Charles Robert of Columbus, Ohio, and John of Teays Valley; two sisters, Rebecca Nicholas of Clendenin and Eleanor Brookover of San Antonio, Texas; one brother, the Rev. Kenneth Maze of Parkersburg; nine grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were conducted Monday, July 14, 2003, at Teays Valley Church of the Nazarene with the Rev. Merlin Provance officiating. Burial in Mount Olivet Cemetery, Parkersburg.

Robert and Belinda Underwood
Robert Dean Underwood, 54, and Belinda Kaye Robertson Underwood, 52, of Culloden went home to be with the Lord Wednesday, July 9, 2003, in Hysham, Mont. Funeral services were conducted Tuesday, July 15, 2003, at Teays Valley Missionary Baptist Church with Pastor John Smith officiating. Burial in Spring Valley Memory Gardens, Huntington. Mr. Underwood was born May 17, 1949, in Crab Orchard, W.Va., a son of Ruth Bouton Underwood of North Carolina and the late Leonard Underwood. Mrs. Underwood was born Oct. 3, 1950, in Sylvester, W.Va., a daughter of the late Arthur and Myrtle Crouse Robertson. They are survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Robert Dean II and Pamela Underwood of Charlotte, N.C.; two daughters and one son-in-law, Heather and Harold Coleman of Dunbar, W.Va. and April Renee Underwood of Hurricane, W.Va.; and eight grandchildren. Mr. Underwood is survived by four brothers, Jim Underwood of North Carolina, Paul Underwood of Denver, Colo., Dallas Underwood of Denver, Colo. and Chuck Underwood of Tennessee; and two sisters, Joan Pasqualichio of Dunmore, Pa. and Jean Capuzelle of Monroe Falls, Ohio. Mrs. Underwood is survived by one sister, Evelyn Taylor of Culloden, one brother, Marion Robertson of Valrico, Fla.; five nephews, James Robertson of Akron, Ohio, Timothy Robertson of Akron, Ohio, David Robertson of Tampa, Fla., Mark Robertson of Salisbury, N.C., and Jim Taylor of Rock Hill, S.C.; and one niece, Cindy Lambert of Sissonville, W.Va. Heck Funeral Home, Milton, was in charge of arrangements.

Lyle Lloyd “John” McCallister
Lyle Lloyd “John” McCallister, 69, of Ona went home to be with the Lord Friday, July 11, 2003, in Cabell Huntington Hospital. Funeral services were conducted Monday, July 14, 2003, at Susannah Baptist Church, Ona, with Pastor Winford Curry officiating. Burial in Forest Memorial Park, Milton. He was born Sept. 10, 1933, a son of the late Elba and Lula Keenan McCallister. He was also preceded in death by three brothers, J.W. “Mack” McCallister, Lonnie McCallister and Cledith McCallister; and one sister, Alta “Toe” McCallister Yeager. He is survived by his wife, Wanda Call McCallister; three sons and daughters-in-law, Randy and Lori McCallister of Prichard, W.Va., Rick and Pam McCallister and Tim and Angie McCallister, all of Ona; eight grandchildren, Jon, Stacie, Christopher, Zachary, Jonathon, Dalton, Kasey and Paige; three brothers, Hendrick “Wirt” McCallister, Delbert McCallister and Bob McCallister, all of Barboursville; three sisters, Freddie Ray of Milton, Oretha McDonie and Beatrice “Sis” Burgess, both of Barboursville; and a special lifelong friend, Wetzel Spencer. Heck Funeral Home, Milton, was in charge of arrangements.

Robert G. Faulkner
Robert G. “Bob” Faulkner, 68, of Hurricane, formerly of Lewisburg, passed away July 7, 2003, after a sudden illness while vacationing with family at Hilton Head, S.C.
He was born Aug. 13, 1934, in Trout, Greenbrier County, the son of the late Ruth Williams and Samuel “Glen” Faulkner. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Rodney G. Faulkner.
He was a gifted draftsman and project engineer for over 20 years for Kelley, Gidley Blair & Wolfe and retired as a senior piping designer from CDI Corporation in 1997. He was also an Army veteran, having service in Germany.
He was a member of St. John United Methodist Church, Scott Depot.
He is survived by his wife, Carolyn Pugh Faulkner of Hurricane; daughters and a son-in-law, Beth and `Tim Carroll of Lewisburg, Amy Wymer of Dunbar; eight grandchildren, Clay Carroll and wife, Stacy, of Hurricane, Kaity Carroll of Charlotte, N.C., Noah Carroll of Hurricane, Caleb Carroll and Morgan Clark, both of Huntington and Betsy, Madeleine and Walker Carroll, all of Lewisburg; one sister and her husband, Ruth Belle and Eddie Jordan of Hurricane; and a large and loving extended family as well as a host of beloved friends.
Services were conducted Friday, July 11, at St. John United Methodist Church, Scott Depot, with the Rev. Martin Hallett and the Rev. Warren Faulknier officiating. Interment in Grandview Memorial Park, Dunbar.
Pallbearers were grandsons, Clay, Noah, Caleb and Walker Carroll and Morgan Clark; son-in-law, Tim Carroll; and Darrell Thomas.
Chapman Funeral Home, Hurricane, was in charge of arrangements.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to St. John United Methodist Church, 4318 Teays Valley Road, Scott Depot, WV 25560.

Thelma Blair Pesimer Vannater
Thelma Blair Pesimer Vannater, 85, of Huntington passed away July 9, 2003, at Lincoln Continuous Care. Funeral services were conducted Saturday, July 12, 2003, at Wallace Funeral Home and Chapel, Barboursville, by the Rev. Junior Hughes. Burial in Green Valley Cemetery. She was born Aug. 21, 1917, in Loveland, Ky., a daughter of the late James “Jim” and Mary Jane Smith Blair. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Tom Pesimer and her second husband, Mirel Vannatter; one son, Sgt. Daniel Pesimer; and an infant son, Elbert Pesimer. She is survived by three daughters and a son-in-law, Eula Isaacs of Barboursville, W.Va., Edith and Ben Darlington of Hamlin, W.Va., and Goldie Hensley of West Hamlin, W.Va.; six sons and daughters-in-law, Thomas and Billie Jean Pesimer of Salt Rock, W.Va., John Pesimer of Shawnee, Ohio, Douglas Pesimer of Winfield, W.Va., Gene and Tammy Vannatter of Barboursville, Davey and Sherry Vannatter of Longwood, Fla., and David and Patty Pesimer of Huntington; one sister, Vada Hensley of Columbus, Ohio; 30 grandchildren; 47 great-grandchildren; and 17 great-great-grandchildren.

Edward C. Dennison
Edward C. “Jellybean” Dennison, 73, of St. Albans died July 5, 2003, in Thomas Memorial Hospital after a short illness.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Floyd Edward and Willa Agnes Meadows Dennison; and his grandparents, Walter and Sally Meadows.
He was a member of First Baptist Church, St. Albans, and was retired from the FMC Corp. plant, South Charleston, with 37 years of service.
Surviving are sons, Walter “Len” of Winfield, David and Jimmie, both of St. Albans; sisters, Anna Mae Brown of Cross Lanes, Mildred Roberts of Teays Valley, Marie Register of St. Augustine, Fla.; brother, William of Myrtle Beach, S.C.; his former wife and mother of his children, Carol Dennison of St. Albans.
Services were held Wednesday, July 9, at Bartlett-Chapman Funeral Home, St. Albans, with Pastor Joel Harpold officiating. Burial in Cunningham Memorial Park, St. Albans.

Edith J. Montague, 88, of Buffalo died July 4, 2003 at Putnam General Hospital, Hurricane.
She attended Hometown Senior Citizens and the Fraziers Bottom Church of God.
Surviving are distant relatives and a great friend, Eva Cain of Buffalo.
Services were held Tuesday, July 8, 2003 at Chapman Funeral Home, Winfield, with Pastor Doug McComas officiating. Burial in Winfield Cemetery, Winfield.

JoAnn Meeks, 72, of Hurricane, widow of William G. Meeks, died Sunday, July 6, 2003 in Hubbard Hospice House, Charleston. Funeral services were conducted Wednesday, July 9, 2003 at Chapman Funeral Home, Hurricane; burial in Stony Bottom (WV) Cemetery.

Jewell G. Thornton Williamson
Jewell G. Thornton Williamson, 102, of Hurricane died Sunday, July 6, 2003 in Teays Valley Manor Private Care Home, Hurricane. She was a homemaker. Funeral services were conducted Wednesday, July 9, 2003 at Allen Funeral Home, Hurricane; burial in Mt. Moriah Cemetery.

Roseann Maxant
Roseann Maxant, 43, of Barboursville, WV, passed away Friday, July 4, 2003, at her residence. Mass of Christian Burial was conducted Wednesday, July 9, 2003, at St. Joseph Catholic Church by Monsignor Lawrence Luciana. She was born Jan. 7, 1960, in Bronx, N.Y., a daughter of the late Michael Joseph and Anne Fusco Kutarnia. Survivors include her husband, Michael Maxant; one daughter, Nina Maxant; two sons, Michael Maxant Jr. and Nicholas Maxant, all of Barboursville, W.Va.; one brother, Jeffrey Kutarina of RVC, N.Y.; and a father-in-law and mother-in-law, Charles and Florence Maxant. Wallace Funeral Home, Barboursville, was in charge of arrangements.

Doris Jean Tooley
Doris Jean Tooley, 66, of Salt Rock, W.Va., passed away Monday, July 7, 2003, at Cabell Huntington Hospital. Funeral services were conducted Wednesday, July 9, 2003, at the Wallace Funeral Home & Chapel by the Rev Leonard Cremeans. Burial in Mays Cemetery. She was born Nov. 16, 1936, in Wayne County, a daughter of the late Elba and Addie Mays Adkins. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Charles R. Tooley. She was a member of Friendly United Baptist Church. She is survived by four sons, Charles R. Tooley and Ronald L. Tooley, both of Shelbyville, Tenn., Larry D. Tooley of Salt Rock and Roger S. Tooley of Cleveland, Ohio; one sister, Elizabeth Tooley of Barboursville; one brother, Ollie Adkins of Ravenna, Ohio; eight grandchildren, Joshua, Lorene, Sean, Ashley, Skylar, Matthew, Brianna, and Cheyenne.

Eugene L. Garrahan
Eugene L. Garrahan, 73, of Scott Depot died June 25, 2003, at CAMC General Hospital.
He was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Nitro, and was involved with Cursillo. He and his wife were also very involved with the Engaged Encounter Weekends held at John XXIII Pastoral Center and were always helping the less fortunate, especially through the Putnam County Community Cupboard. He was a veteran of the United States Army, serving during the Korean conflict, and was a retired employee of Super-Valu, Milton.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas and Margaret McGuire Garrahan, and a brother, James Garrahan.
Surviving: wife, Mary JoAnn Garrahan; two sons and a daughter, sisters, Peggy Kruger of Jamestown, Rhode Island and Eileen Larkin of Warwick, Rhode Island; brother, William Garrahan of McLean, Virginia; two grandsons.
Mass of Christian Burial was held Saturday, June 28, 2003, at Holy Trinity Catholic Church with Father Richard Chirischiello and Father Paul Wharton as co-celebrants. Burial was in St. Ann’s Catholic Cemetery, Cranston, Rhode Island. Chapman Funeral Home, Teays Valley was in charge of arrangements.
The family suggests memorial donations be made to Putnam County Community Cupboard, PO Box 511 Hurricane WV 25526; or John XXIII Pastoral Center, 100 Hodges Road, Charleston WV 25304.

Charles Wayne Buck
Charles Wayne Robert Buck, 18, of Leon died Wednesday, June 25, 2003, at Jackson General Hospital from injuries sustained in an automobile accident.
He was a student at Point Pleasant High School, a junior firefighter with the Leon Volunteer Fire Department, and was an avid sports fan who loved baseball, football, basketball and all forms of NASCAR racing.
Surviving: mother, Rhonda Sue Buck of Buffalo; father, Paul Wayne Buck of Leon; paternal grandparents, Paul and Eva Buck of Pt. Pleasant; maternal grandparents, Richard and Donna “Sue” Nease of Buffalo; maternal grandfather, William Buck of Buffalo; paternal great-grandmother, Lottie Belle Craig of Robertsburg; brothers, Tony Buck of Robertsburg and Richard Buck of Buffalo; sisters, Lashanna Buck of Buffalo and Courtney Buck of Buffalo; special niece, McKenzie Buck of Buffalo; several loving aunts and uncles.
Service was held Sunday, June 29, 2003, at Oma Chapel with Pastor Randy Parsons and the Rev. Herbert Buck officiating. Burial was in the Craig Cemetery, Grimms Landing. Raynes Funeral Home, Buffalo, was in charge of arrangements.
