Helen L. Bilconish of Hurricane died December 8, 2003 following a long illness.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Michael.
She was a Eucharistic minister, choir member and charter church member of the Catholic Church of the Ascension, Hurricane. She had been a member of the Mount Salem Homemakers Club.
Surviving: daughters, Gloria Maddox and her husband, Joe, of Hurricane, Dolores Saylor and her husband, Emmett, of Columbus; six grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild.
Mass was held Thursday, December 11, 2003, at the Catholic Church of the Ascension. Burial was in Forest Memorial Park, Milton. Allen Funeral Home, Hurricane, was in charge of arrangements.

Donna Jean McCallister
Donna Jean McCallister, 59, of Winfield died December 8, 2003, in CAMC General Hospital, Charleston.
She attended St. Timothy-in-the-Valley Episcopal Church, Hurricane.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Lester Blanchard and Pearl Ferguson McKee, and her son, Brian T. McCallister.
Surviving: husband, Arthur W. McCallister; daughters, Roxanne Justice of Winfield and Bonnie J. Blevins of Richmond, Kentucky; sisters, Betty Cottrell of North Carolina and Pauline Myers of Bryson City, North Carolina; grandchildren, Colton Justice and Brooke Hoffman.
Service was held Thursday, December 11, 2003, at Chapman Funeral Home, Teays Valley. Burial was in Valley View Memorial Park, Hurricane.

Pauline Damron
Pauline Mills Damron, 86, of Hurricane died December 9, 2003, in Putnam General Hospital.
She was born May 6, 1917 in Kenova, daughter of the late Grover Cleveland and Della Spence Mills. She was also preceded in death by her husband, George Hoadley Damron, and her olderst son, Charles Hoadley Damron Sr.
She received her bachelor's and master's degrees in education from Marshall University. She taught in West Virginia public schools for 41 years and worked as a substitute teacher while in retirement over the 10 years that followed. Except for a brief period during World War II, she spent most of her life in Southern West Virginia, resident primarily in the Town of Lenore, Mingo County.
She was a member of Forrest Burdette Memorial United Methodist Church and the Mingo-Pike Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma and a 50-years member of Order of the Eastern Star.
Surviving: son and his wife, Irvine “K.O.” and Sherri Damron of Charleston; grandchildren, Irvine Keith Damron II of Huntingtron, Charles Hoadley Damron Jr. of Sebring, Florida, Phillip Hoadley Damron of Shepherdstown, and Angela Kay Damron of Hungtington; sister, Betty Dials of St. Albans; stepgrandson, Jeremy Shawn Woodie; stepgreat-grandson, Trevor Blaine Woodie of Charleston.
Service was held Saturday, December 13, 2003 at Weaver Mortuary, Williamson. Burial was in Mountain View Memory Gardens, Maher.

Harold Stevens
Harold Stevens, 83, of Scott Depot died December 10, 2003, at his residence.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Xzena Stevens.
He was retired from C&O Motors and Quality Pontiac. He was an avid bowler and a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, having served in Germany and France. He was awarded the Purple Heart.
Surviving: wife, Mildred V. Stevens; son, Joe Reese of Poca; sisters, Mary Thomas of Harmons Creek and Myrtle Stevens of Sissonville; brothers, Jake and Tom Stevens, both of Tyler Mountain, and Gene Stevens of Lake; several nieces and nephews.
Service was held Friday, December 12, 2003, at Chapman Funeral Home, Teays Valley, with the Rev. Fred Christian officiating. Entombment was in Tyler Mountain Memory Gardens, Cross Lanes.
The family suggests memorial donations to Kanawha Hospice Care, 1143 Dunbar Avenue, Dunbar WV 25064.

Jon Matthew Gunter
Jon Matthew Gunter, 15, of Scott Depot died December 10, 2003, of injuries received in an automobile accident.
He was preceded in deat by grandfather, Alan F. Gunter, great-grandparents, Taft and Rosalee Vineyard and Harry and Edith King.
He was a sophomore and honor student at Winfield High School, where he was also a saxophonist in the concert band, As a student at Winfield Middle School, he was a member of the football team and was first chair in the All-County Band as an eighth-grader. He was a Christian and attended Mount Vernon Baptist Church, and loved fishing and all sport activities.
Surviving: parents, Jeff and Beth Gunter of Scott Depot; sister, Morgan Michelle Gunter at home; grandparents, Jon and Sue Vineyard of Scott Depot, Matalie Gunter and Jack Cadle of Charleston; aunts and uncles, Brian and Susan Johnson of Ravenswood, Missy and Zac Northup of Teays Valley, Judy and John Bennett of Wilmington, North Carolina; his girlfriend, Katie Eye of Scott Depot; seven cousins; and many close friends.
Service was held Saturday, December 13, 2003, at Chapman Funeral Home, Teays Valley, with the Rev. Kregg Burris officiating. Burial was in Mount Vernon Cemetery, Hurricane.
The family suggests memorial donations be made to the Band Department, c/o Winfield High School, 3022 Winfield Road, Winfield WV 25213.

Doris E. King
Doris E. Jones King died December 11, 2003, in Bancroft at the personal care home of Ann Dean.
She was born March 21, 1925, a daughter of the late Virgil W. and Effie M. Jones. She was also preceded in death by a sister, Delta Mae Jones, and her husband, Denver E. King.
She was a 1945 graduate of Poca High School. She served in the U.s. Army and the U.S. Marine Corps in the late '40s and during World War II.
Surviving: sons, Denver E. “Skip” King Jr., Larry King of Kinston, North Carolina, and Kirk D. King; several grandchildren; sister, Wilma Rogers of Houston, Texas; brothers, Virgil W. Jones Jr. of Piqua, Ohio and Ernest H. “Sonny” Jones of Huntington; several nieces and nephews.
Her body was donated to the Science Department of West Virginia University. Casdorph & Curry Funeral Home, St. Albans, was in charge of arrangements.

Nicholas Patrick Altizer
Nicholas Patrick Altizer, 16, of Scott Depot died December 10, 2003, of injuries received in an automobile accident.
Nick was a junior at Winfield High School, where he was an active member of the golf team. He was a member of Presbyterian Church of the Covenant, Hurricane. He enjoyed art and most all sports, including soccer in the earlier years and golf in the past few years.
Surviving: parents, Rick and Rita Altizer; sisters, Katy Altizer of Augusta, Georgia and Molly Hall and her fiance, Bryan Morrison, of Scott Depot; several aunts, uncles, cousins, many friends and his four-footed little brother, Buddy Lee.
Service was held Sunday, December 14, 2003, at Chapman Funeral Home, Teays Valley, with the Rev. Rob Laukoter and the Rev. Tom Young officiating. Burial was in Tyler Mountain Memory Gardens, Cross Lanes.
The family suggests memorial donations be made to the Golf Team, c/o Winfield High School, 3022 Winfield Road, Winfield WV 25213.

Robert E. Oxley
Robert E. “Bobby” Oxley, 53, of Scott Depot died Saturday, December 13, 2003, in St. Mary's Hospital after a short illness.
He was a lifelong resident of the Hurricane area and retired from Union Carbide. He was API certified.
Surviving: wife, Jill; daughter, Jasmine Oxley at home; son, Casey Oxley at home; mother, Virginia Oxley of Hurricane; sister, Carolyn Sue Moore of Ebony, Virginia; brother, Rodney Oxley of Hurricane; several nieces, nephews and pets.
Service was held Tuesday, December 16, 2003, at Allen Funeral Home, Hurricane, with Father William Kirkland officiating. Burial was in Sycamore Cemetery near Hurricane.

William “Billy” Lawhon Jr.
William “Billy” Lawhon Jr., 72, of Barboursville died Friday, Dec. 12, 2003, in St. Mary's Medical Center. Funeral services were conducted Monday, Dec. 15, 2003, at Gethsemane Baptist Church by the Rev. Zachary Bills. Burial in Ridgelawn Memorial Park. He was born Sept. 5, 1931, in Cabell County, a son of the late William Lawhon Sr. and Edna Catherine Alberts Lawhon. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Betty Lawhon and one sister, Madeline Bailey. He is survived by one daughter, Kelley Curry and her husband, Brian of Barboursville; four sons, David Lawhon and his wife, Brenda, Rod Lawhon and his wife, Denise, Jeff Lawhon and Greg Lawhon, all of Barboursville; four sisters, Barbara Adkins, Shelby Plumley, Louise Davis, all of Barboursville, and Nancy Powell of Ona; three brothers, Larry Lawhon and Joe Lawhon both of Barboursville, and Jerry Lawhon of Salt Rock; and eight grandchildren. Wallace Funeral Home, Barboursville, was in charge of arrangements.

Paula S. Meehling
Paula S. Meehling, 51, of Ona, W.Va., formerly of St. Albans, died Dec. 13, 2003, in St. Mary's Medical Center, Huntington. Funeral services were conducted Tuesday, Dec. 16, 2003, at St. Mark's Episcopal Church, St. Albans, with Father Paul B. Bresnahan officiating. Burial in White Chapel Memorial Gardens, Barboursville. She was born Sept. 19, 1952, in St. Albans, W.Va. She was a homemaker, a member of St. Mark's Episcopal Church, St. Albans, and a graduate of St. Albans High School and Fairmont State College. She was preceded in death by her father, Dr. Paul Soulsby and is survived by her husband, Bob Meehling of Ona; mother, Reba Dean Soulsby of St. Albans; stepdaughters, Tracy Littrell of Lexington, Ky., Kelly Meehling of Ona; sister, Ann Wright of Georgia; brothers, Gary Soulsby of Washington and Michael Soulsby of Arkansas; and numerous nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to a charity of choice in support of children or animals. Beard Mortuary, Huntington, was in charge of the arrangements.

Braxton J. “Junior” Gilkerson, Jr.
Braxton J. “Junior” Gilkerson Jr., 65, of Huntington, W.Va., passed away Thursday, Dec. 11, 2003. Funeral services were conducted Monday, Dec. 15, 2003, at the Wallace Funeral Home and Chapel by Pastor Tony Vance. Burial in Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens. He was born Sept. 10, 1938, in Wayne County, a son of the late B.J. Gilkerson Sr. and Martha Browning Gilkerson. He was a former employee of Danco. He was preceded in death by his wife, Joneta Byrd Gilkerson; a daughter, Alice “Jeannie” Means; his stepmother, MiMi Gilkerson; a brother, Glen Edward Gilkerson and a grandchild, Tarra Nicole Gilkerson. He is survived by a son, Clyde “Buddy” Gilkerson; four sisters, Cornelia “Neal” Napier, Ninabell Hill and husband, Jim, Arbutice Borski and Jessie L. Wilson and husband, Harry; one brother, Clyde A. Gilkerson and wife, Betty; two granddaughters, Heather Gilkerson and Danielle Means; one grandson, Richie Means; a daughter-in-law, Robin Gilkerson; a son-in-law, Rich Means; and brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Charles and Sandy Byrd, Doris James, Butch and Tammy Byrd, Mary and Gary Ross and Betty and Jim Martin

Claude Daniel Holt
Mr. Claude Daniel Holt, 64, of Huntington, husband of Madeline Wellman Holt, won his battle with cancer and went to be with the Lord Saturday, Dec. 13, 2003, in St. Mary's Medical Center. He was born Jan. 26, 1939, in Louisa, Ky., a son of the late Paul and Clovia M. LeMaster Holt. He was also preceded in death by one brother, Bruce Holt. He was owner of Holt's Garage Service. He also attended Walnut Hills Church of the Nazarene. His favorite activities included hunting, fishing and gardening. Also surviving are one daughter, Kimberly Dawn Holt of Huntington; two sons, Claude Daniel Holt of Charlotte, N.C., and Kevin Douglas Holt of Huntington; granddaughter, Brittany Danielle Collins of Huntington; seven sisters, Barbara Blevins of Catlettsburg, Ky., Ruby Caldron of Columbus, Ohio, Maxine Endicott of Florida, Helen Perry of Arkansas and Carol Crabtree, Tammy Holt and Tina Finley, all of Fort Gay, W.Va.; and five brothers, James Paul Holt of Catlettsburg, Jerry Holt of Alabama and Joe, Mike and Terry Holt, all of Fort Gay, W.Va. Funeral services were held Tuesday, Dec. 16, 2003, at Henson Mortuary with the Rev. Gary Hayes officiating; burial in White Chapel Memorial Gardens, Barboursville. The family would like to give special thanks to Dr. Sharma, Dr. Amin and the entire staff at St. Mary's Medical Center.

Kenneth F. Frye Jr.
Kenneth F. Frye Jr., 68, of Barboursville, husband of Bonnie Jean Leap Frye, died Wednesday, December 10, 2003 in St. Mary's Medical Center. He was born April 12, 1935, in Eureka, Calif., a son of the late Kenneth F. Sr. and Elaine Harwood Frye. He was retired from the U.S. Navy and U.S. Postal Service. He was a member of Minerva Lodge #13, A.F. & A.M. Barboursville, a 32-Degree Mason, Beni Kedem Shrine and a scout leader in the Barboursville area. Also surviving are one daughter and son-in-law, Debra and Jeff Muth of Barboursville; one son, Kenneth F. Frye III of Charleston, W.Va.; two grandsons, Jeffrey Muth Jr. and David Joshua Frye, and one sister, Tillie Pieri of California. Funeral services were conducted Monday, Dec. 15, 2003, at Henson Mortuary with the Rev. Gary Hayes officiating; burial in White Chapel Mausoleum, Barboursville. Minerva Lodge #13 conducted graveside rites.

Hugh L. Jobe
Mr. Hugh L. Jobe, 69, of Huntington, husband of Norma R. Robertson Jobe, died Saturday, Dec. 13, 2003, in Cabell Huntington Hospital. He was born Aug. 12, 1934, in Beech Grove, Ky., a son of the late Barney L. and Lola Sutton Jobe. He was an insurance investments executive and a member of Lewis Memorial Baptist Church. Also surviving are four daughters and sons-in-law, Rebecca and Michael Neely of Jacksonville, Fla., Donna and Jerry Vineyard of Milton, Susan and Mike Knutson of Mooresville, N.C., and Angie and David O'Dell of Culloden, W.Va.; one son, David L. Jobe of Mooresville, N.C.; 11 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; two sisters, Lana Sketo of Shepherdsville, Ky., and Marilyn Mudd of Lebanon Junction, Ky.; and one brother, Russell Jobe of Taylorsville, Ky. Funeral services were held Tuesday, Dec. 16, 2003, at Lewis Memorial Baptist Church with Dr. David Lemming officiating; burial in Spring Hill Cemetery, Huntington. Henson Mortuary, Barboursville, was in charge of arrangements.

Ida Woods Adkins
Ida Woods Adkins, 86, of Huntington went to be with the Lord Friday, Dec. 12, 2003. Funeral services were conducted Tuesday, Dec. 16, 2003, at the Wallace Funeral Home and Chapel by Elder Jimmy Lester and Elder Jason Hogsett. Burial in White Chapel Memorial Gardens. She was born April 19, 1917, in Cabell County, a daughter of the late Grover Woods and Virgie Lawson Woods Estep. She was also preceded in death by her stepfather, Vance Estep; one daughter, Regina Manning; five brothers, Arbie, Bill, George, Arvin and Romie Estep; and one sister, Alice Watts. She was a member of Eastern Gate United Baptist Church. She is survived by her husband, Arthur Adkins; two sons and daughters-in-law, Clifford and Lynn Adkins of New Orleans, La., and Grover and Carnella Adkins of Chesapeake, Ohio; a son-in-law, James Manning; four sisters, Ceda Adkins of Barboursville, Lillie Adkins of Salt Rock, Mary Jane Belton of Ona and Betty McComas of Huntington; a special sister-in-law, Lillian Estep; 10 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Gladys M. Burgess
Gladys M. Burgess, 87, of Huntington passed away Friday, Dec. 12, 2003, in St. Mary's Medical Center. Graveside services were conducted Tuesday, Dec. 16, 2003, in White Chapel Memorial Gardens by Pastor Brent Gibson. She was born Jan. 17, 1916, in Malcolm Springs, Milton, W.Va., a daughter of the late Everett and Carrie Hobbs Morrison. She was preceded in death by her husband, Fred C. Burgess. She is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Joyce and Clifton “Kip” Price of Ravenswood, W.Va.; one son and daughter-in-law, Richard and Margie Burgess of Rome, Ohio; two sisters, Garnet Danford of Barboursville and Lillian Carson of Milton; five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Wallace Funeral Home, Barboursville, was in charge of arrangements.

Leroy Angle
Mr. Leroy Angle, 79 of Huntington, W.Va., went to be with the Lord Wednesday, December 10, 2003, at his residence. Funeral services were held Saturday, December 13, 2003, at Chapman's Mortuary, Huntington, by Pastor Fred Ramey. Burial in Woodmere Memorial Park. Leroy was born December 11, 1923 in Huntington, W.Va., a son of the late Charles Richard and Carrie Abigail Booth Angle. He was a retired carman from the former C&O Railway. He was a member of the Minerva Lode #13 AF&AM of Barboursville, a Scottish Rite Free Masonry and a 32 degree Mason. He was preceded in death by his wife, Violet May Angle, three sisters and four brothers. Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Rodney Leroy and Patricia Angle of Barboursville; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Brenda Gail and Carl Dixon of Ohio, Sharon Kay and Larry Midkiff and Deborah Louise Farmakis, all of Huntington; 10 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren and four step-great-grandchildren.

Kenneth Frye Jr.
Kenneth Frye Jr., 68, of Barboursville, husband of Bonnie Frye, died Wednesday, December 10, 2003 in St. Mary's Medical Center. He retired from the U.S. Postal Service. Funeral services were held Monday, December 15, 2003 at Henson Mortuary, Barboursville; burial in White Chapel Memorial Gardens.

Harry E. “Gene” White
Harry E. “Gene” White, 65, of Huntington, beloved husband, father and grandfather passed away December 10, 2003 at home. Harry was so loved by those who knew him and will be remembered and missed for his kindness and gentle nature. He found exceptional qualities in everyone, whether it be family, friends or customers and was always ready with words of encouragement and a helping hand. Harry was born October 25, 1938. He served in the United States Navy as a radar technician and as a member of the USN Drill Team. He retired from AM International after 36 years to work in the family owned business, Eagle Printing Company of Milton, W.Va. He was a member of Minerva Lodge No. 13, AF&AM and Scottish Rite of Freemasonry, S.J., USA 32†. He leaves behind his loving and devoted wife, Betty Vineyard White; two daughters and sons-in-law, Kimberly and Steve Dillon of Lesage, W.Va., and Ivy and Mike Legg of Barboursville, W.Va.; granddaughter and grandson-in-law, Jennifer Brown and James Dailey; two grandsons, Bryce and Cory Legg; two great-grandsons, Sidney and Calvin Dailey; a very special sister and brother-in-law, Joanne and Jim Woods of Elyria, Ohio; a brother and sister-in-law, Robert and Lois Payne of St. Albans; and a sister and brother-in-law, Betty and Pete Peterman of Florida. Harry was preceded in death by his parents, Harry and Margaret White, and a sister, Dorothy, all of St. Albans, W.Va. Very special thanks are extended to his brother-in-law and friend, Larry Vineyard of McMinneville, Ore., Dr. Mavi, Dr. Munn, Dr. Lopez, Dr. Vermani, Kim and Kathy, his chemotherapy nurses, Joe Ghiz and all the caring nurses of Hospice of Huntington, Larry Peal, Dave Elkins, Dr. Linda Eakle, Pam Ford and numerous others whose concern and kindness helped Harry and the family during his brave and final battle.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to Hospice of Huntington, PO Box 464, Huntington, WV 25709. or to St. Jude's Children's Hospital PO Box 50, Memphis, TN 38101. A memorial service was held at Heck Funeral Home, Milton, W.Va., on Friday, December 12, 2003. A private interment was held at White Chapel Mausoleum, Barboursville, WV.
