Julia E. Galbraith
Julia E. Galbraith, 92, of Hurricane died Nov. 26, 2003.
Mrs. Galbraith was a member of Rock Lake Presbyterian Church.
She is survived by two children, Richard Galbraith of Hurricane, Sally Fraser of Austin, Texas; sister, Peggy Hubert; two brothers, Dick and Bud Slevin; three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Services were conducted Friday, Nov. 28, at Gatens Funeral Home, Poca, with Pastor Rick McGuire officiating. Burial Saturday, November 29, 2003 in Alleghany Cemetery, Pittsburgh, Pa.
Gatens Funeral Home, Poca, was in charge of arrangements.

Lewis E. Hatfield
Lewis E. Hatfield, 79, of Leon died Nov. 22, 2003, after a short illness.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Braxton Ridge and Ethel Hatfield; brothers, Ira and Noah; and sisters, Lora, Kathleen Stroup, Minnie Harris, and Lillian Warzniyak.
Lewis was retired from Cannelton Coal Company after 45 years of service and was a minister of the Tabernacle of the Elohim, Leon. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.
He is survived by his wife, Ramona; one sister, Elizabeth Chambers of Pennsylvania; sons, William of Longwood, Fla., Jimmy of Scott Depot, Tommy of Charleston, Lewis Jr. of Mathews, N.C., Marlon Harrison of Leon; daughters, Carol Nelson of Rand, Eva “Merlene” Jones of Texas, Rene McComas of Red House; nine grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
He will be missed by a host of nieces and nephews and many, many friends.
A memorial service will be held at a later date. Lewis elected to donate his body to science through the School of Osteopathic Medicine, Lewisburg.

Helen D. Silman
Helen D. Silman, 69, of Hurricane died Nov. 24, 2003 following a short illness.
She was born Nov. 9, 1934, at Palestine, a daughter of the late Edsel and Edith Bridges. She was also preceded in death by a sister, Mildred Salisbury.
She was a 1952 graduate of Stonewall Jackson High School and retired from the state Auditor's office with 20 years service. She was a member of St. Mark's Episcopal Church, St., Albans. She enjoyed reading and ballroom dance and was a member of the Latin Dance Club. She also enjoyed being a grandmother.
She is survived by her husband, Charles Silman; daughter, Leigh D'Agostino of South Charleston, Kaye Miller of Hurricane; granddaughter, Gina D'Agostino of South Charleston; sister, Marie Pierce of Hurricane; niece, Elaine Barthlow of Sharpsburg, Ga.; nephew Doug Canterbury of Winfield.
Helen was a loving and kind person who will be missed by those who knew her.
Memorial service was held Saturday, Nov. 29, 2003 at St. Mark's Episcopal Church, St. Albans, in the old chapel, with Father Paul Bresnahan officiating.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to St. Mark's Episcopal Church or Christ's Kitchen, St. Mark's Episcopal Church, 405 B St., St. Albans, WV 25177.
Farlow-Bonsall Funeral Home, Charleston, was in charge of arrangements.

Raymond Coleman
Raymond Coleman, 82, of Huntington, W.Va., went home to be with the Lord Tuesday, November 25, 2003, at St. Mary's Medical Center, Huntington. Funeral services were conducted Friday, November 28, 2003, at the Wallace Funeral Home and Chapel, Barboursville, by Dr. David Lemming. Burial in Ridgelawn Memorial Park. He was born November 9, 1921, in Pike County, Kentucky, a son of the late Fred and Maggie Hall Coleman. He was a retired employee of Fairchild Buick-Cadillac of Ashland. He was a member of Lewis Memorial Baptist Church and a veteran of the U.S. Army Air Corps, having served during World War II. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Elmo and Curtis Coleman, and one sister, Nannie Mae Bartley. He is survived by his wife, Josephine Mullins Coleman; two sons and daughters-in-law, Dan R. and Liese Coleman of Pisgah Forest N.C., and Tim and Theresa Coleman of Milton, W.Va.; three sisters and brothers-in-law, Barbara Coleman of Pikeville, Ky., Eleanor and Sidney Johnson of Louisville, Ky., and Sallie and Bill Gilpin of Pikeville, Ky.; six grandchildren, Danny, Rusty, Sandi, Joshua, Bryanne and Ben Coleman; one great-grandchild, Ansley Coleman.

Iris (Fife) Farley
Iris (Fife) Farley, 96, of Lesage, W.Va., widow of Okey Farley, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, Nov. 25, 2003. She was residing with her son, Richard, and daughter-in-law, Edith Farley. Funeral services were conducted Saturday, Nov. 29, 2003, at Chapman's Mortuary, with the Rev. Ray Vance and the Rev. Jamie Jefferson officiating. Burial in Greenbottom Memorial Park. She was born Nov. 4, 1907, at Crown City, Ohio, a daughter of the late Joseph and Elizabeth Fife. In addition to husband and parents, she was preceded in death by two sons, Joseph and Clyde Farley; a daughter, Freda Farley Curry; four sisters; and two brothers. She is survived by two daughters and a son-in-law, Cloah Farley of Columbus, Ohio, and Janice and Richard Moore of Gilbertsville, Pa.; two sons and daughters-in-law, Max and Joyce Farley and Richard and Edith Farley, all of Barboursville; 22 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; and 16 great-great-grandchildren. The family would like to thank Hospice of Huntington for the love and special care they gave our Mom.

Evelyn L Marcum
Mrs. Evelyn L. Marcum, 81, of Poca died Nov. 23, 2003.
Mrs. Marcum is a 35-year resident of Poca, formerly of Tornado. She is also a member of the Heizer Creek Community Church and former member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Oscar R. Marcum; sons, George C. Marcum, Maxwell Sparkman and Patrick Sparkman; sisters, Nora Gibson and Joyce King; one brother, Paul Gibson; granddaughter, Sharon Young; and great-granddaughter, Kaleigh S. Merricks.
She is survived by four children, Oscar Ray Marcum Jr. of Stokesdale, N.C.; Lawrence W “Pedro” Marcum of Glasgow; JoeAnn Crawford of Tornado, and Janie B. Marcum of Poca; two sisters, Marjorie Elster and Virginia Akers, both of Columbus, Ohio; two brothers, James E. Gibson Jr. and Oswald Ryan Gibson, both of McArthur, Ohio; 12 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held 11 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 26, 2003, at Gatens Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Ray Humphrey officiating. Burial in Marcum Family Cemetery, Poca.

William B. Mullens
William B. Mullens, 63, of Hurricane, WVa., peacefully went to be with the Lord, Monday, Nov. 24, 2003.
He was a loving husband, father and grandfather but mostly a friend to all those in his life.
Surviving: wife, Brenda of Hurricane; daughters, Michele Mello of Lake City, Fla., Julie Myers of Hurricane; sons, Sean Mullens of New Port Richie, Fla., Michael Holstin of Hurricane; loving grandchildren, 3 Sara, John, Niko, Madison, Andrea, and Skylee.
He will be missed and remembered for his kindness and love for nature.
Allen Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Alexander James Linville
Alexander James Linville, 2-month-old son of Martin and Shawna Baylous Linville, died November 21, 2003, at Cabell-Huntington Hospital.
Alex's family also includes his brothers, Matthew Jefferson and Christopher Wilson Linville; grandparents, Okey Jr. and Brenda Baylous of Barboursville, Rodney and the late Barbara Simmons Linville of Hurricane, W.Va.; great-grandparents, James and Mary Lucille Marking of Barboursville, R. W. and the late Vivian Simmons of Huntington, the late Okey, Sr. and W. Gaynell Baylous, the late Wilson and Kathryn “Kitty” Linville; aunts and uncles, Michael and Becky Baylous of Hurricane, Brian and Angela Linville of Huntington, Jill Markins, Nancy E. Woodall, both of Barboursville, Peggy Wilmink of Huntington; cousins, Maxwell Baylous and Andrew Linville.
Services were conducted Tuesday, Nov. 25, 2003, at Chapman Funeral Home, Hurricane with the Rev. David Templeton officiating. Burial in the Baylous Cemetery, Salt Rock, W.Va.

Mary Clyde Davis Spurlock
Mary Clyde Davis Spurlock, 77, of Hurricane, W.Va., went to be with the Lord on Nov. 22, 2003, at Putnam General Hospital. She was a member Hurricane First Baptist Church in Hurricane, and a 50 year member the Order of the Eastern Star.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Claude J. Spurlock; and son Thomas C. Spurlock.
She is survived by daughters, Karen Hanson of Scott Depot, WV and Sandra McGrath of Hurricane, WV; sons, Edward Love of Maple Hill, N.C., and David A. Love of Humboldt, Tenn.; grandchildren Kristina Spurlock of Lexington, Ky., Joshua McGrath of Charleston, David E. Love of Maple Hill, N.C., Zachary Hanson of Winfield, W.Va., Travis McGrath of Hurricane, W.Va., and Sara Hardwick of Humboldt, Tenn., and 3 great-grandchildren.
Services were conducted Tuesday, Nov. 25, 2003, at Allen Funeral Home with the Rev. Jim McGehee officiating. Burial in Forest Memorial Park, Milton, W.Va.

Lois Scaggs Dodson
Lois Scaggs Dodson, 75, of Barboursville, passed away Friday, November 21, 2003, in Ormond Beach, Fla. Funeral services were conducted Wednesday, November 26, 2003, at the Wallace Funeral Home and Chapel, Barboursville, by Pastor Larry Woody. Burial in Crook Cemetery. She was born April 13, 1928, in Wayne County, a daughter of the late William M. and Marie Pyles Scaggs. She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul Dodson; her twin sister, Loretta Terry; and sister Juanita Scaggs. She is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Brenda and Dana Lane of Ormond Beach, Fla.; one son and daughter-in-law, Paul “PG” Dodson H and Donna of Milton; one sister, Ruth Riley of Barboursville; three grandchildren, Deanna Lane, Rod Lane and Paul Dodson III; and two great-grandchildren, Dylan Lane and Megan Dodson. Donations may be made to Hospice of Volusia and Flagler, Ormond Beach, Fla. Wallace Funeral Home, Barboursville, was in charge of arrangements.

Malcolm Matthew Jenkins
Malcolm Matthew Jenkins, 88, of Milton, went home to be with the Lord and to join his beloved wife, Elsie, at home Sunday, November 23, 2003. Funeral services were conducted Wednesday, November 26, 2003, at Heck Funeral Home, Milton, with the Rev. Chelcie Gibson officiating. Burial in Toney Hill Cemetery, Milton. He was born in Milton on May 10, 1915, a son of the late Mountiville M. and Jannett Bias Jenkins. He is also preceded in death by four brothers, Willie, Paul, Ford and baby Forrest; six sisters, Geneva Cooper, Opal Ashworth, Daphne Cooper Holley, Gerry Peyton, Eva Meadows and Lucille Mills. He was a retired laborer and a member of Chestnut Grove Church. Malcolm is survived by three daughters and sons-in-law, Janet and Bill Kelley, Linda and Rodney Clagg and Shirley and Don Smith, all of Milton; and one son, Forrest “Frosty” Jenkins of Fort Lauderdale, Fla. He is also survived by three grandchildren, Larry Jarrell, Brian and Rebekah Jarrell and Staci and Dennis Paugh; five great-grandchildren, Grave Jarrell, Daniel Jarrell, Shelby Paugh, Cory Goff and Elisha Goff, stepfamilies, Chris, Rita and Shawn Kelley, Christin Chapman and son Denny and Kariann Paugh and sons; one sister, Jo Adams of Huntington. Heck Funeral Home, Milton, was in charge of arrangements.
