She is survived by one son, Jamie Roy, Owensboro, KY; one daughter, Kimberly Shawn, Owensboro, KY; four brothers, David and Marshal Bunch, both of Columbia, KY, Mike Bunch, Jamestown, KY and Douglas Bunch, Russell Springs, KY; two sisters, Joann Roy, Russell Springs, KY, and Shirley Scalf, Whitesburg, IN; and two grandchildren. Funeral services were Sunday, January 19, 2003 with Bro. Billy Dunbar officiating. Interment was in the Rexroat Cemetery. Pallbearers were Bradley, Darren, Christopher, and Ricky Bunch, Jeremy Roy, and Mark Wright. H.E. Pruitt Memory Chapel was in charge of the arrangements.

William Bryan Russell, 43,
Jamestown, KY, passed away Monday, August 18, 2003 at his residence. He was a member of the South Russell Volunteer Fire Department. Survivors include his wife, Lela Jones Russell, Jamestown, KY; one son, Sammy (Beth) Russell, Jamestown, KY; three sisters, Patricia Carroll, Russell Springs, KY; Pam Hall and Paula Brown, both of Jamestown, KY, Funeral services were Thursday, August 21, 2003 in the chapel of H.E. Pruitt Memory Chapel with Bro. David Withers and Bro. Phillip MIller officiating. Interment was in the Bethel Cemetery. Pallbearers were James Osborne, Paul Hupke, Jr., Damon Spencer, Shawn Kean, Troy Walters, Ron McGaha. H.E. Pruitt Memory Chapel was in charge of the arrangements.

Argola Shepperd, 78,
Russell Springs, passed away Monday, January 13, 2003 at the Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital in Somerset, KY. She was the daughter of the late Sylvester and Patsy Gosser Meece. She was a homemaker and a member of the Cedar Springs United Baptist Church. She is survived by one daughter, Linda Johnson, Russell Springs, KY; two sisters, Lola Rexroat and Colleen Foley, both of Russell Springs, KY; five grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren and four great great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by three brothers, Henry, Roscoe and Robert Meece. Funeral services will be Thursday, January 16, 2003 at the Cedar Springs United Baptist Church with Bro. Edward Bradley officiating. Interment will be in the Cedar Springs Cemetery. Pallbearers are Junior Foster, Danny Robertson, Darren Robertson, Mark Meece, Brad Rexroat, Scott Mann and Leslie Shepperd. Bernard Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Bro. Harry Sinks 87,
Passed away on August 14, 2003 at the Otter Bein Methodist Home in Lebanon, OH. He was a retired minister and served as pastor at the Manntown and Union Chapel Church in Russell County in the 1950’s. Survivors include his wife, Harriet Sinks, Otter Bein Home in Lebanon, OH; one son, Lealand Sinks, Farmersville, OH; two daughters, Sue Barker, Texas and Lolita Bolin, Manteno, IL. Funeral services will be at the Otter Bein Home on August 23, 2003 at 12 noon in Ohio. The family requests that expressions of sympathy take the form of a donation to the World Hunger Organization.

Charles E. Smith, 63,
Russell Springs, Ky passed away Monday, September 15, 2003 at his residence. He was retired from the Transportation Department and a member of the Friendship Baptist Church. Survivors include his wife, Betty Lou Ragle Smith, Russell Springs; three sons, Greg (Robin) Smith, Russell Springs, KY, Trent (Mitza) Smith, Jamestown, KY, and Mark Smith, Russell Springs, KY; one brother, James C. (Jane) Smith, Russell Springs, KY; one step-sister, Barbara Fruechtaicht, AL; two grandchildren, Travis and Skyler Smith, both of Jamestown, KY. He was preceded in death by one step-sister, Linda Rae Coe. Funeral services were Wednesday, September 17, 2003 at the Friendship Baptist Church in Russell Springs, KY with Bro. Jeff Kerr officiating. Interment was in the Smith Memorial Cemetery. Honorary pallbearers were Alan Voils, Gary Robertson, Jerry Loy, Keith Gilpin, Jeff Womack, Rodney Little, Jim Coffey, and Charles D. Hale. Active pallbearers were Art Ragle, Bascum Smith, Charles B. Laura Stargel Roy, 87,
Of Maple Street in Russell Springs, KY, passed away Saturday, July 12, 2003 at her home. She was a homemaker and a member of the Church of God of Prophecy. Survivors include her husband, Walter Roy, Russell Springs, KY; four sons, Alpha Stargel and J.D. Stargel, both of Louisville, KY and Gary Stargel and Wayne Stargel, both of Columbia, KY; five daughters, Joyce Wilson, Royce Smith and Linda Miller, all of Russell Springs, KY, Pearl Crockett, Waynesburg, KY and Wanda Murray, Columbia, KY; two sisters, Marie Burton, Russell Springs, KY and Edna Foley, Campbellsville, KY; and a host of grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Graveside services were Sunday, July 13, 2003 at the New Friendship Cemetery with Bro. J.D. Melson officiating. Special singing was provided by J.D. and Flonnie Melson and Daniel G. Wilson. Pallbearers were Tommy Murray, Leonard Miller, Daniel Bell, Michael Roy, Jonathon Stargel, and Kevin Kessinger. Wilson Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Bessie Mae Stephens, 86
Formerly of Russell County passed away at her home on Friday, August 8, 2003 in Manchester, TN. She is survived by three sons, Athel Stephens, Bethel, OH, Denzel Stephens, Liberty, KY and Eddy Stephens, Manchester, TN; one daughter, Yvonne Qualls, Altamont, TN; one brother, Arvester “R.V.” Stephens, Russell Springs, KY; four sisters, Cora Aaron, Delphia Coffey, and Martha bernard, all of Russell Springs, KY, and Clara Cunningham, Middletown, OH; and ten grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, O.E. Stephens; two sons, Lonnie and Danny Stephens; three brothers and one sister. Funeral services were Monday, August 11, 2003 at the Bernard Ridge Church of God with Rev. Billy Dunbar and Rev. James Small officiating. Interment was in the Stephens Family Cemetery in Russell Springs, KY. H.E. Pruitt Memory Chapel was in charge of the arrangements.

Myron Kent Stephens, 60,
Gladstone, MI, formerly of Russell Springs, KY, passed away Thursday, June 19, 2003 at the Marquette General Hospital in Marquette. He was a nursing home administrator. He graduated from Russell County High School and attended Lindsey Wilson College and Western Kentucky University in Bowling Green, KY. Survivors include his wife, Sharon Stephens, Gladstone, MI; one son, Craig (Becky) Stephens, Columbus, OH; two step-daughters, Wendy (Timothy) Foliano, Dexter, MI and Amy White, Jacksonville, NC and his mother, Velna Stephens, Russell Springs, KY; two brothers, Terril (Jane) Stephens and David (Linda) Stephens, both of Russell Springs, KY; one sister, Frances “Bo” (Charlie) Price, Russell Springs, KY; also surviving was Craig’s mother Judy; along with many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Carl, Arlus Jr. and Terry Stephens. Memorial services were Monday, June 23, 2003 at the Russell Springs United Methodist Church with Bro. Jim Kingry and Bro. Mack Stephens officiating. Interment was in the Russell Springs Cemetery. Bernard Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Adelma Tarter, 69,
Russell Springs, KY passed away Sunday, March 9, 2003 at the Russell County Hospital. He was the owner and operator of Tarter’s Grocery in the Eli Community and a member of the Coffey’s Chapel United Methodist Church. He was the son of the late Chrisman Vanwinkle and Della Dunbar Tarter. He is survived by one son, Forest Wayne Tarter, Russell Springs, KY; one daughter, Nucezia Nicole Tarter, Russell Springs, KY; one brother, James Tarter, Russell Springs, KY; a sister, Signa Smith, Liberty, KY; and a grandson, Chrisman Tarter. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Gene and Roger Tarter, and one sister, Vivian Tarter. Funeral services were Tuesday, March 11, 2003 in the chapel of the Bernard Funeral Home with Bro. Elvis Tucker officiating. Special music was provided by Linda McGowan. Interment was in the Coffey’s Chapel Cemetery. C.L. Thomas, 73
Of Pell City, Alabama passed away April 26, 2003 and burial was on April 29, 2003 in the Jefferson Memorial Gardens in Trussville, AL. Mr. Thomas was a native of Russell County, the son of Claude and Ocie Thomas and was married to Elsie Evans. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Earl and Ronald Thomas. He leaves behind to mourn his passing, his wife, Elsie; one son, Jimmy Thomas; two daughters, Sherry Hammett and Sandy Thomas; one brother, Owen Thomas, Russell Springs KY; two sisters, Fay Wade, Russell Springs, KY and Joyce Bunch, West Chester, OH. Mr. Thomas was retired from Sears in Birningham where he worked as a service repairman for thirty seven years. He will be missed by all his family and a host of friends and neighbors.

Charles Edward Tompkins, 86
Faubush, KY passed away Monday, September 15, 2003 at the Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital after a long illness. He was a retired farmer and a member of the Jabez Christian Home Church. Survivors include his wife, Sylvia Tompkins, Faubush, KY; four sons, Thomas (Nancy) Tompkins, Columbia, KY, Steven (Jane) Tompkins, Ingle, KY, Chuck (Patricia) Tompkins, Faubush, KY, and David (Sheila) Tompkins, Somerset, KY; three daughters, Judy (R.D.) Floyd, Nancy, KY, Charlotte (Dean) Prather, Somerset, KY, and Janice (Burt) Watson, Nancy, KY; 16 grandchildren, 27, great grandchildren, 7 step great grandchildren and 2 step great great grandchildren; and two sisters-in-law, Theria Tompkins, Shirley, IN and Lola Tompkins, Bement, IL. He was preceded in death by five brothers, Estus, Joe, Harold, John, and Willard Tompkins; three sisters, Flonnie Chumbley, Myrtle Lafavers, and Katie Daulton, and a grandson-in-law, Rick Patterson. Funeral services were Thursday, September 18, 2003 in the chapel of the Bernard Funeral Home with Bro. Donnie Coffey officiating. Interment was in the Lafavers Cemetery. Pallbearers were Tim Elrod, David Tompkins, Denver Floyd, Nathan Prather, Jared Watson and Dwayne Wilson. Bernard Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Pamela Sue Dailey Trout, age 38
Of Talbott, Tennessee, formerly of Russell Springs, died Tuesday from injuries sustained in an automobile crash in Knoxville. She is survived by one son, Kevin McQueary of Russell Springs: a daughter, Hannah Trout of Talbott, Tennessee, her mother Barbara Bailey of Palm Desert, California. 2 sisters, Susan Calhoun of Roseville, California and Carrie Boldt of Ninnehah, Oklahoma. Funeral services were at 8 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 4 at Allen Funeral Home in Morristown, Tennessee with Rev. Dwight Jenkins officiating. Interment was on Friday, Sept. 5 in the Helton Cemetery at Bean Station. This obituary is courtesy of Wilson Funeral Home in Russell Springs.

Elvis Earl Tucker, 93,
Of the Eli Community of Russell County, passed away Thursday, May 8, 2003 at the Liberty Care Center. He was a retired farmer. Survivors include four sons, Rev. Elvis Tucker, Glen Tucker, Chester Tucker, and Leslie Tucker, all of Russell Springs; six daughters, Remona Whittle, Exetta Wilson, Golda Hinkle and Joyce Luttrell, all of Russell Springs, KY, Clora Luttrell, Liberty, KY and Mary Richardson, Lexington, KY; also surviving are 26 grandchildren and 27 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by four sons, Lester B., Liston, Arvester, and Sylvester Tucker; two sisters and four brothers. Funeral services were Saturday, MAy 10, 2003 with Rev. Richie Curtis officiating. Special music was provided by Doyle and Brenda Wilson and Wanda Curtis. Interment was in the Hugh Frank Cemetery. Pallbearers were Mark Hinkle, Billy Tucker, Chris Tucker, Ronnie Whittle, Neil Luttrell, Michael Hopper, Marcus Tucker and Robby Tucker. The Bernard Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Ina Pearl Turner, 98,
Russell Springs, KY passed away Saturday, August 30, 2003 at the Westlake Regional Hospital after an illness. She was the daughter of the late Duvall and Mary Gifford Grant and was the widow of Rev. Luther Turner, Jr. who preceded her in death on Feb. 5, 1984. She was a homemaker and a member of Mt. Zion Cumberland Presbyterian Church. Survivors include two daughters, Louise (Sam) Thompson, Greensburg, KY and Regina Nicholson, Seymour, IN; 10 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren, nine step grandchildren and 12 step great grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends also survive. She was also preceded in death by two sons, Leon Turner and Joseph Turner and one granddaughter, Tina Stone. Funeral services were Monday, September 1, 2003 in the chapel of Stotts-Phelps-McQueary Funeral Home with Rev. Freddie Norris officiating. Interment was in the Haven Hill Cemetery. Honorary pallbearer was Hunter Thompson. Active Pallbearers were Sam Thompson II, Tim Larimore, Louis Roy, Mike Brown, Trent Bohn and Bill Bohn. The family has requested that in lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy take the form of a donation to a charity of your choice. Stotts-Phelps-McQueary Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Seth Wade Jr., 74,
Edinburg, TX, passed away Friday, September 5, 2003 in Edinburg, TX. He was a retired educator of Pan American University in Edinburg, TX after 35 years of service. He was preceded in death by his parents, Seth I. Wade and Ella Jasper Wade of the Windsor Community of Russell County. Survivors include one son, Jon Wade, Houston, TX; one daughter, Karen Wade, Dallas, TX, one step-son, Jeff of Tennessee; one brother, Frank Wade, Russell Springs, KY; and one sister, Mildred Wade Humble, Science Hill, KY. Seth Jr. graduated from the old Russell Springs High School in 1948 and from University of Kentucky in 1952. He also attended Ohio State University and the University of Florida. He was also a U.S. Army veteran. He settled in Edinburg some 40 years ago and remained there until his death and wished to remain there after his death.

Shirley Wells, 89,
Jamestown, KY passed away Tuesday, April 22, 2003 at the Russell County Hospital. He was a retired tool and die maker. He is survived by two daughters, Cordella Voils, Russell Springs, KY and Barbara Appleby, Jamestown, KY; five grandchildren, seven great grandchildren and five great great-grandchildren. Funeral services were Thursday, April 24, 2003 in the chapel of H.E. Pruitt Memory Chapel with Bro. Phillip Miller officiating. Interment was in the Jamestown Cemetery. Pallbearers were Benny Ball, Derrick Blankenship, James Bell, Donnie Mays, Marty Blankenship and Ringo. H.E. Pruitt Memory Chapel was in charge of the arrangements.

Bobby Hugh West, 58,
Russell Springs, KY, passed away Wednesday, June 11, 2003 at the Russell County Hospital. He was a welder by trade. Survivors include his wife, Brenda West, Russell Springs, KY; four children, Melissa Kaye West, Brian West, Randy Wayne Hadley and Gregory Scott Hadley, all of Russell Springs, KY; his mother, Opal West, Russell Springs, KY; two brothers, Garlin West and Michael West, both of Russell Springs, KY, and three sisters, Ella Fern Polston, Russell Springs, KY, Jeanie Sue Fortune, Indianapolis, IN and Betty Lou Owens, Shelbyville, IN; and four grandchildren. Funeral services were Saturday, June 14, 2003 in the chapel of Bernard Funeral Home with Bro. Jody Perkins officiating. Interment was in the Square Oak Cemetery. Honorary pallbearers were Jody West, Dustin Dickens, Skyler Dickens and Logan Clark. Active pallbearers were Aaron Keith, Chris Hadley, Randy Hadley, Scott Hadley, Brian West, and Lee Fortune. Fort Wayne, IN, formerly of Russell Springs, KY, passed away Sunday, August 27, 2003 at the Parkview Hospital in Fort Wayne, IN. He is survived by his wife, Ida West, Fort Wayne, IN; two sons, Larry R. West, Pine Louisiana and Gary Wayne West, Angola, IN;four daughters, Betty Ann Knight, Pine, Louisiana, Donna D. Drudy, Fort Wyane, IN, Sandy Taylor, Sanford, FLand Vicki Henry, Fort Wayne, IN; 18 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren; and local survivors include, Lois Popplewell, Vicki Tucker, Doris Dick, Susie Walters, Duel and Gary West. Evansville, IN, formerly of Russell County, passed away Tuesday, August 19, 2003 at the Deaconess Hospital in Evansville, IN. She was a homemaker and a member of the Clear Springs Missionary Baptist Church. Survivors include two sons, Jimmie (Vicki) Whitis, Evansville, IN and Gary (Mercy) Cook, California; one son-in-law, James Meece, Russell Springs, KY; two sisters, bernice Gaskins, Gustava Higginbotham, Russell Springs, KY; five grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Veleda Pearl Meece, seven brothers and four sisters. Funeral services were Friday, August 22, 2003 in the chapel of Bernard Funeral Home with Bro. Cleveland Johnson officiating. Interment was in the Forest Lawn Memorial Park, Erlanger, KY. Bernard Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

He is survived by his mother, Jaovel Williams, Jamestown, KY; two brothers, Terry Williams, Marion, IN and Marshall Williams, Jamestown, KY; and five sisters, Barbara Jones and Evelyn Smith, both of Marion, IN, Betty Morris and Teresa Knox, both of Indianapolis, IN and Sandra Walker, St. Louis, MI. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Melvin and Paul Williams. Funeral services were Wednesday, May 21, 2003 in the chapel of H.E. Pruitt Memory Chapel with Rev. A.R. Taylor officiating.
