Michael Walter Burnett
Michael Walter Burnett, age 48, passed away Monday, March 19, 2007 at his residence.
Michael was born March 27, 1958 in Kingsport, TN, the son of the late William “Bob” Burnett and Eula Gates Burnett.
Michael had lived in Glade Spring for several years and was a former employee of Washington County Schools and Utility Corporation. He attended school in Roanoke Rapids, NC, Clemson, SC and at Virginia Highlands Community College.
Michael is survived by his son, William, currently serving in the U. S. Navy at Norfolk, his mother, Eula “Vickie” of the home, his brother, Bill and wife Peg of Greenville, NC, nephews, Michael of Charlotte, NC, and Charles and wife Tori of Atlanta, GA.
The funeral service will be conducted Wednesday, March 21, 2007 at 8:00 p.m. in the Farris Funeral Service, Main Street Chapel with Brother Buster Mullins officiating. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 6:00-8:00 p.m. in the funeral home. Interment will be in Mt. Rose Cemetery on Thursday, March 22, 2007 at 11:00 a.m. Those attending the service on Thursday are asked to meet at the cemetery by 10:55 a.m.

Pansy H. Tolliver
Pansy Hearl Tolliver, age 81, went to be with her Lord with her family by her side on Tuesday, March 20, 2007 at her home.
Born on January 26, 1925 in Washington County, Virginia, Pansy was a daughter of the late Joseph Daniel Hearl and Clara Amanda Pippin Hearl. She was also preceded in death by her loving husband of 59 years, Herbert Alonzo Tolliver, her sister Dora Hearl and her brothers Fred and Paul Hearl.
Pansy will be remembered for her friendly smile and personality; also as a hard worker, a patient and caring wife, mother, grandmother and friend.
She had retired from Dutt & Wagner Poultry Farm and had served as a greeter at the Damascus Caboose for the Department of Forestry. She attended the Carvosso United Methodist Church.
Survivors include her son, Frederick A. Tolliver of Abingdon; special daughter and caregiver, Marie Hearl and husband Joe of Abingdon; her grandchildren, Michele Lilly and husband Thomas and Lisa Hearl all of Abingdon, Allyson Tolliver and Sara Tolliver both of Ulm, Arkansas; her great granddaughters, Sarah Lilly and Hannah Lilly; her sister, Lillian Wann of Danville, VA; her brothers, Garnett Hearl and Frank Hearl and wife Cora all of Abingdon and a special niece, Patty Cox of Abingdon, VA.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 – 8:00 P. M. Thursday, March 22, 2007 at the Main Street Chapel of Farris Funeral Service. The funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 A. M. Friday, March 23, 2007 in the Main Street Chapel with Rev. Leonard Smith officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Hills Memory Gardens. Pallbearers will be Joe Hearl, Thomas Lilly, Roger Hearl, Allen Hearl, Randy Hearl, Joe Tolliver, Mike Hearl and Jimmy Hearl.

Irene Grace Foglesong Reynolds
Mrs. Irene Grace Foglesong Reynolds passed away Tuesday, March 20, 2007, at Grace Healthcare in Abingdon. She was born July 9, 1919, in Russell County, Virginia, a daughter of the late James Nelson Caudill and Josephine Price Caudill. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, William A. Reynolds; her son, Roy Foglesong, Sr.; her sisters, Estelle Caudill and Delta Hagy Shupe; and her brother, Henry Caudill.
Survivors include her grandsons and their spouses: Roy Foglesong and Teresa of Meadowview, and David Foglesong and Lisa of Abingdon; her sisters: Virginia Kendrick of Bristol, TN, and Eula Lee Hardee of Loris, SC; her daughter-in-law, Sue Foglesong of Meadowview; her great-grandchildren: Cody, Nichole, Whittney and Lindsey; her very special niece, Lois Humphreys of Abingdon; her niece, Lola Wampler of Kingsport, TN; her first cousin, Mary Harless of Abingdon; and her special telephone friends.
Graveside funeral services for Mrs. Irene Grace Foglesong Reynolds will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, March 23, 2007, at Forest Hills Memory Gardens with Roger Yuhasz officiating. Active pallbearers will be Stuart Buckley, Josh Sadler, Jerry Price, Lance McGlothlin, Bryan Williams, and Randy Reynolds. Honorary pallbearers will be the staff of Abingdon Manor. The family will receive friends Thursday evening from 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. at the Forest Hills Chapel of Farris Funeral Service, 19415 Lee Highway, Abingdon.

Lucille Ellen Cumbow
Mrs. Lucille Ellen Cumbow, age 81, died Thursday, March 22, 2007, at Bristol Regional Medical Center. She was a member of Euclid Avenue Baptist Church and the Lydia Sunday School Class. Mrs. Cumbow was a long-time teacher of the Ladies’ Sunday School Class. She was a member of the Eastern Star and was a retired employee of Univac in Bristol, TN.
Mrs. Cumbow was preceded in death by her husband, Maynard E. Cumbow, on March 11, 2007; her parents: Ira and Stella Deel; and one brother: Leonard Deel.
Survivors include one son, Wayne Cumbow and wife Andrea of Talbott, TN; two grandchildren: Jarrod Cumbow and his wife Christy of Morristown, TN, and Victoria Cumbow of Auburn, AL; one great-grandchild, Spencer; three step-great-grandchildren: Kristopher, Kyler and Clai; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services for Mrs. Lucille Ellen Cumbow will be held at 3:00 P. M. Sunday, March 25, 2007, at Farris Funeral Service, Main Street Chapel, 427 E. Main Street, Abingdon, VA, with the Rev. Bob Jones and the Rev. Jim Cumbow officiating. Burial will follow at Forest Hills Memory Gardens. Pallbearers will be Kenneth Kistner, Gary Shipley, Jarrod Cumbow, Jim Mullins, Jim Deel, Harold Holdbrook, Gene Akers, and Bob Peck.
The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. – 3:00 p.m. Sunday prior to the service at Farris Funeral Service, 427 E. Main Street.

Clara Ellen Hinchey
Clara Ellen Hinchey, age 63, passed away Wednesday, March 21, 2007, at Wellmont Bristol Regional Medical Center. She was born in Russell County, Virginia, and had lived most of her life in the Bristol area. She was a member of Beech Grove United Methodist Church in Bristol.
Mrs. Hinchey was preceded in death by her husband, Harold Preston Hinchey; her parents, Ellis Belcher and Lola Sauls Belcher; her brothers: June, Carl, Clyde, and Clarence Belcher; and her sister, Bessie Ray.
Survivors include her children: Harold “Skip” Hinchey and wife Linda of Saltville, VA; Terry Hinchey and wife Katherine of Charlotte, NC; and Charlotte Campbell and husband Darrell of Huntersville, NC; her brothers: Ernest Belcher and wife Jean of Damascus, VA; John Belcher and wife Phyllis of Abingdon; Ralph Belcher of Abingdon; Arnold Belcher and wife Shirley of Bristol, TN; her sisters: Hazel Hawthorne and husband Gene of Bristol, VA; and Mary Jones and husband Kenneth of Bristol, TN; and her grandchildren: Anna, Jessica, Kara, Kayde, Caitlin, Preston, Kealie, Noah and Tommy. She is also survived by her special friend and companion, Robert Statzer, and his children: Jeff, Tammy, Bobby and Chris.
Funeral services for Clara Ellen Hinchey will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, March 24, 2007, at Farris Funeral Service, Main Street Chapel, with Pastor William D. Hamm, Jr. officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Hills Memory Gardens. Active pallbearers will be Lee Fields, Danny Crusenberry, Duane Goff, Darrell Hawthorne, Mike Belcher, Darrell Belcher, and Ralph Belcher, Jr. Honorary pallbearers will be Tim Carter, Randy Crusenberry, Jimbo Crusenberry, Eddie Belcher, Larry Belcher, Ernie Belcher, Robert Belcher, Mark Belcher, Roger Jones, Ellis Belcher and Dennis Belcher.

Virginia Lucille Aistrop Ellis
Mrs. Virginia Lucille Aistrop Ellis, age 84, passed away Friday, March 23, 2007 in Johnston Memorial Hospital.
She was a founding member of the Deliverance Pentecostal Church of God. She was a faithful member of the church and she dearly loved her church family.
Survivors include two brothers, Willie Aistrop and wife Ottolene and Bernard Aistrop and wife Dorothy all of Saltville, VA, she is also survived by a host of nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews including a niece Lola Harris and husband Curtis with whom she made her home.
The funeral service will be held Monday, March 26, 2007 at 2:00 p.m. in the Farris Funeral Service Main Street Chapel with Pastor Mark Casey and Pastor Bill Delp officiating. The family will receive friends Monday from noon until 2:00 p.m. in the funeral home. Interment will follow in Forest Hills Memory Gardens.

Matthew Harold Lyall
Mr. Matthew Harold Lyall, age 32, passed away Wednesday, March 21, 2007 at his home.
Matthew was born September 11, 1974 in Fairfax County, Virginia to Harold and Lorraine Lyall. Matthew and his family moved to Abingdon from Leesburg, Virginia in 1985. He was employed by the Ball Corporation of Bristol, Virginia and attended Calvary Baptist Church in Abingdon.
Matthew is survived by his parents Harold and Lorraine Lyall of Abingdon, one brother, Chris Lyall of Bristol, Tennessee, grandmother, Virginia Lyall of Clintwood, Virginia and grandmother, Nannie Lanham of Leesburg, Virginia.
A private funeral service will be conducted in the Main Street Chapel of Farris Funeral Service with Pastor Harry Booher officiating. Burial will be in Forest Hills Memory Gardens. There will be no visitation in the funeral home.

Ruby June Boyd Cook McAllister
Mrs. Ruby June Boyd Cook McAllister died March 23, 2007, at the age of 75. She was a native of Buchanan County and had lived there most of her life before moving to the Bristol area in 1984. Ruby worked tirelessly with her family in Christ at the State Street Church of Christ in Bristol.
She was preceded in death by her parents, George Dorsen Boyd and Alice Pearl Shortridge Boyd; her daughter, Lonia Lue Cook Matney; her first husband, Alonzo Cook; her brothers, James Burton Boyd and Raymond Dewey Boyd; and her grandsons, Clinton James Cook and Jared Michael Joyce.
Ruby is survived by her husband, Robert McAllister; her daughters: Brenda June and husband Denny Matney, and Linda Sue and husband Terry Long of Paducah, KY; sons Jim Cook and Jerry Cook, both of Vansant, VA; son-in-law John Matney and wife Becky of Bristol, VA; step-daughters: Barbara McAllister of Oakwood, VA, and Susan and husband John Whitt of Richlands, VA; step-sons: Robert Barry McAllister and wife Connie of Lebanon, VA, and David McAllister of Meadowview, VA; twelve grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and many friends and relatives.
Funeral services for Ruby June Boyd Cook McAllister will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, March 25, 2007, at the Forest Hills Chapel of Farris Funeral Service, located on the grounds of Forest Hills Memory Gardens, 19415 Lee Highway, Abingdon. Services will be led by Evangelist Jim Hill and Dan Bailey, Minister. Entombment will follow in Colonial Chapel Mausoleum at Forest Hills. Pallbearers will be the Men of State Street Church of Christ. The family will receive friends Saturday, March 24, from 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. at the Forest Hills Chapel.

Robert "Bob" Lowell Thomas
Robert “Bob” Lowell Thomas age 64 was born in Washington County, Virginia and went to be with the Lord March 24, 2007 at 12:00 a.m.He had his caregiver Nancy Lowe standing at his bedside when Bob went to be with the Lord.
He is preceded in death by his father, Robert L. Thomas and his mother, Virgie Bowman Thomas, three brothers and two sisters.
Survivors include a dear friend and caregiver Nancy Lowe, Abingdon, VA, one daughter, Wanda Thomas, Bristol, VA, and one sister, Bester Hillard, Damascus, VA, several nieces and nephews and close friends, Jerry and Debra Hargrove.
The funeral service will be conducted Monday, March 26, 2007 at 8:00 p.m. in the Farris Funeral Service, Main Street Chapel with Evangelist Eugene Miller and Pastor Floyd Nelson and Evangelist Rick Lester officiating. The family will receive friends Monday from 5:00-8:00 p.m. in the funeral home.
Pallbearers will be Jerry Otey, Mike Burke, Jerry Hargrove, C. J. Tate, Jackie Hargrove and Dwight Hillard. Honorary pallbearers will be Diane White, Dr. Jonathan Swank, Regina Reanis, Wanda Kennedy, Debra Hargrove and Betty Carson.
The interment service will be conducted Tuesday, March 27, 2007 at 2:00 p.m. in the Greenwood Cemetery. The procession will leave the funeral home at 1:20 p.m. Tuesday.

John E. McCroskey
Mr. John E. McCroskey passed away at his home Saturday, March 24, 2007 following a lengthy illness.
John was preceded in death by his parents, Beecher and Margaret McCroskey, was a member of the Abingdon United Methodist Church and was a lifelong resident of Abingdon.
He is survived by his sister Sheila Boyd and her husband Joe Boyd, Abingdon, VA, his nephew, Tyler and his niece Rachel and several other relatives.
A graveside service will be conducted Tuesday, March 27, 2007 at 11:00 a.m. in the Forest Hills Memory Gardens with Rev. Jerry Eggers officiating. In case of inclement weather, the mausoleum chapel will be utilized for the service. There will be no visitation in the funeral home although the family will greet friends at the cemetery. Those attending the service are asked to assemble at the cemetery by 10:45 p.m,Tuesday.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Faith In Action, 798 Hillway Highway, Abingdon, VA 24210 or to The Cancer Research Foundation, 206 Abingdon Place, Abingdon, VA 24211.

Lois Purcell Vaughan
Mrs. Lois Purcell Vaughan, a resident of Grace Healthcare in Abingdon, VA, and formerly of Ft. Walton Beach, FL, went to be with her Lord on Monday, March 26, 2007. Lois was preceded in death by her husband, Staff Sgt. Leonard B. Vaughan; her parents; a sister, Anna Mae Dunston; and a brother, John Dunston.
She is survived by a sister, Adeline “Toni” Webb of Damascus, VA; and a nephew and his wife, Dennis and Blanche Webb, who have been her caregivers since she left Florida. She is also survived by a sister-in-law, Violet Dunston; nieces: Darlene, Ada and Lois Anna; and nephews: John. Jr., Frank, Walter, and Vernon, all of Hawaii.
The family would like to express their appreciation to Grace Healthcare and to Hospice, who provided care for Lois.
Graveside services for Ms. Vaughan will be held Thursday, March 29, 2007, at 1:00 p.m., at the Woodlawn Cemetery in Knoxville, TN. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the charity of your choice.

Edward Pierce "Pete" Salyer, Sr.
Edward Pierce “Pete” Salyer, Sr. passed away Monday March 26, 2007 at age 83.
He was born to the late Marion Salyer and Elsie Sexson Salyer in Dante, VA in Russell County on December 7, 1923. He served in the United States Army Air Corp during World War II in China, Burma, and India and was decorated with several medals including the Bronze Service Star. He was employed for nearly 40 years at Electro-Mechanical/Line Power Corporation in Bristol, VA where he served as the Vice President of Transportation. He was an elder and treasurer of the Spring Creek Presbyterian Church of Abingdon, VA.
He was preceded in death by his first wife Betty Louise Mays Salyer, his second wife Irene Keen “Toots” Salyer, his brothers Sterling Odell Salyer and Branzil Guy King.
Survivors include his daughters Barbara Ann Salyer , Delores Louise Sutton and Patricia Gayle Stollberg, his beloved niece Brenda Gay Bryant, son Edward Pierce Salyer, Jr., his grandchildren Denise Salyer, Michael Salyer, Amelia Sutton, Michael Stollberg, and David Stollberg, granddaughter-in-law Tammy Brown, and great granddaughter Presley Gayle Stollberg.
A funeral service will be held on Friday, March 30, 2007 at 2 pm at the Main Street Chapel of Farris Funeral Service with Mr. Stephen Talbert, church lay speaker, officiating. Burial will follow the service at Temple Hill Memorial Park in Castlewood, VA. Pallbearers will be Mike Stollberg, David Stollberg, James Miller, Jeff Fuller, Ken Leonard and Jason Gilbert. Honorary pallbearers will be Frank Leonard, Jack Gent and Scott Bullock. The family will receive friends on Thursday, March 29, 2007 from 5-8 pm at the funeral home. Minnie M. Cullop
Mrs. Minnie M. Cullop, age 78, passed away Tuesday, March 27, 2007 at her residence
Mrs. Cullop was born May 24, 1928 in Washington County, Virginia to the late Lewis and Mary Brannon Widener. She had been employed by Johnston Memorial Hospital as a ward clerk. Mrs. Cullop was of the Baptist faith. Mrs. Culloip was preceded in death by her parents and one son, David Paul Cullop.
The family wishes to give special thanks to Johnston Memorial Home Care, Hospice of Southwest Virginia and Angie Dixon.
Mrs. Cullop is survived by her husband of 60 years, Paul E. Cullop, two sons, Jerry W. Cullop and Larry L. Cullop and Tracy Cullop all of Abingdon; three grandchildren, Bryan Cullop of West Palm Beach, Florida, Jeffrey Cullop of Bentonville, Arkansas, Angela Poe of Okalahoma City, Okalahoma, Five great-grandchildren, Tyler Cullop, Jesse Poe, Amber Poe, Haven Poe, and Brayden Cullop.One brother, Gordon Widener of Abingdon and three sisters, Edna Delp of Meadowview, Virginia, Betty Deel of Damascus, Virginia and Violet Rossie of Yakima, Washington.

Zola A. Price
Mrs. Zola A. Price, age 72 of the Spoon Gap Community passed away Wednesday, March 28, 2007 in the Johnston Memorial Hospital.
She was a lifelong resident of Washington County and was of the Baptist faith. She was preceded in death by her parents, Glenneth Price and Edith Pope Price, a brother, Billy Price and a sister, Shirley Hurd. She was a very loving wife and mother.
Survivors include her loving husband of 53 years, Henry Price, two daughters, Carolyn McDowell and husband Jackie McDowell, North Carolina, Loretta Jones and husband Bart Jones, Abingdon, VA, a son, Alvin Price and wife Janie Price, Abingdon, VA, five sisters,
Gracie Merrit and husband Bill, Bristol, TN, Bonnie Jones, Bristol, VA, Eileen Norris and husband, Earnest of Abingdon, VA, Donna Shaffer and husband Billy Shaffer and Peggy Wright and husband William Wright, all of Abingdon, VA two brothers, Jimmy Price and wife Linda Price and Allen Price and wife Reginia Price all of Abingdon, VA, six grandchildren, Travis Wright, Alycia Wright Crumpton, Crystal Price and Christine Price, Jonathan Jones and Tiffany Jones, one great grandchild, Camryn Wright, two aunts, Janie Norris and Nona Graybeal and several nieces and nephews.
The funeral service will be conducted Saturday March 31, 2007 at 11:00 a.m. in the Farris Funeral Service Main Street Chapel with Rev. Mike Scoresome and Rev. Herbert Bailey officiating. The family will receive friends Friday from 6:00-8:00 p.m. in the funeral home. Interment will follow in the Mountain View United Methodist Church Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Tony Roark, Danny Rowe, Andrew Widner, Junior Widner, Travis Wright, Joy Malone.

William Edley Blair
Mr. William Edley Blair, age 66, of Bristol, Tennessee past away Thursday, March 29, 2007 in Bristol Regional Medical Center.
Mr. Blair was born in Sullivan County, Tennessee on July 13, 1940 to the late Edley and Elizabeth Bott Blair. Mr. Blair had served in the United States Army Reserve and was a former employee of United Inter Mountain Telephone Company and he did electrical testing for Raytheon Corporation of Bristol, Tennessee.
Mr. Blair is survived by his wife, Dorothy M. Blair, two daughters, Tracy and Michelle, one step-daughter, Melissa Hutton and husband, Rick Wilson of Bristol, Tennessee, one brother, Randall Blair of Atlanta, Georgia, one sister, Louise Dye of Bristol, Tennessee, one sister-in-law, Barbra Baird of Bristol, Tennessee, one nephew, Scott, and one niece, Melissa. Mr. Blair is also survived by his loving and faithful dog, Diamond.
A memorial service will be conducted Sunday, April 1, 2007 at 2:00 P.M. in the Main Street Chapel of Farris Funeral Service with Pastor Timothy Stevens officiating. Honorary pallbearers will be Rick Wilson, Michael Offield, Aaron Baird, Daniel F. Lee, Daniel K. Lee, David Powell, and Clarence Stevens.

Eva Ardena Sharitz Snavely
Eva Ardena Sharitz Snavely, age 95, died Saturday, March 31, 2007 in the Valley Health Care Center in Chilhowie, VA.
Mrs. Snavley was a well known retired merchant of Meadwoview. She was born in Wythe County, VA on June 7, 1911, a daughter of the late Elmer Sharitz and Nannie Williams Sharitz. She moved to Washington County with her late husband, J. Lee Snavely and his family in 1929. Together they established Snavely’s Store in 1930. She was a loyal and dedicated member of Mountain View Baptist Church and was also preceded in death by her son, Frank Snavely, four brothers, two sisters and two grandchildren.
Survivors include her sons, Sam Snavely and wife Margaret of Bristol, VA and Jack Snavely and wife Betty of Meadowview, VA; her daughters, Gay Farmer, Betty Lee Dye and Marie Yeatts and husband John all of Abingdon; her daughter-in-law Frances Snavely of Salem, VA; her sister, Betty Harlan of Pennsylvania; ten grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren and her roommate, Ida Blevins, of Valley Health Care Center.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 – 9:00 P. M. Tuesday, April 3, 2007 at the Main Street Chapel of Farris Funeral Service or any time at the home of her son, Jack Snavely. A funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 P. M. Wednesday, April 4, 2007 at the funeral home chapel with Rev. Sherrill Dunn and Rev. Dan Birchfield officiating. Burial will follow in Knollkreg Memorial Park in Abingdon. Pallbearers will be her grandsons and grandsons-in-law.
