Ada Slaving: Croton resident
Ada E. Slaving died August 16 at her home in Croton.
She was 91.
She was born October 6, 1908 in Croton to Edwin and Rena Chase Slaving.
She was a retired loan officer for Grace National Bank in New York City.
She did volunteer work for the Croton Caring Committee, and was a parishioner at Asbury United Methodist Church. She also belonged to the Order of the Eastern Star.
She is survived by one nephew, Edward McCarthy, of El Paso, Texas; four nieces, Judy Calabres of Florida, Janet Adams of Cortlandt and Linda Raccosta and Irene Rick, both of Croton; 13 great- nieces; one great-nephew; 10 great-great-nephews; and three great-great nieces.

Catherine "Mac" McPhee: Southbury resident
Catherine E. "Mac" McPhee died August 15 at Mediplex of Southbury, Connecticut.
She was 87.
She was born September 1, 1914 in New York City to John and Anne (McGorty) Gallagher.
She attended Greenwich schools and later moved to Stamford. She worked as a bookkeeper at Miller’s Lilliputian Shoppe and Dress Barn in Stamford.
After moving to Southbury, she worked as a bookkeeper for the Visiting Nurse Association and was also a member of the Aid for Retarded Children, the Southbury Training School Foundation and the Southbury Training School Home and School Association.
She is survived by two sons, Donald A. McPhee of Brookfield and Daniel J. McPhee of Bantam; three daughters, Patricia C. Pascale of New Hartford, Phyllis C. Frenis of Southbury and Judith T. Pucci of Stamford; 17 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband, Allen S. McPhee, one daughter, Carolann Dutra, and one granddaughter.

Charles W. Perry: resident of Peekskill/Cortlandt Manor
Charles W. Perry died on August 20, 2002.
He was 80.
He was a U.S. Army Airforce – WWII Veteran.
He worked for many years as a Yeastmaker at Standard Brands in Peekskill.
He was an Eagle Scout, an avid sportsman, and for many years a Deacon at the Pleasantside Chapel.
He is survived by his wife marion Leverich Perry, sons Charles Levoy of Maui, Hawaii, Alan W. Perry of Haverstraw, New York, 2 grandsons Spencer James, Tyler William Perry, a brother Robert Perry of Peekskill.
He was predeceased by his sister Catherine De La Vallierre.

Conrad Lanza: Putnam Valley resident
Conrad Lanza, a resident of Putnam Valley, died August 15.
He was 84.
He was born June 19, 1918 to Adolf and Corina Lanza in Brooklyn.
He was married to Florence Eleanor Youngfeldt and they raised two daughters, Geri and Janice.
He served during World War II as an ensign in the U.S. Navy.
Mr. Lanza earned a BSEE degree from Brooklyn Polytech University and an MSEE from Northeastern University.
He made front page news in June of 1957 in the New York Times for co-inventing the "Spacistor," a miniaturization of a vacuum tube to the size of a pin head. This led to the computer revolution.
His patents include the Gunn Effect Devices, Tunnel Diodes, the Gas Panel computer display screens and semi-conducter induction lasers. His accomplishments as a research scientist won him a lifetime achievement award from Polytech University in 1997.
His passions included tennis, music, contract bridge, astronomy, and of course, his wife, daughters, Coco (dog), Sammy (horse) and Wooly Bully (cat).
He provided a lifetime of memories, inspiration, love and laughter.
Mr. Lanza is survived by his two daughters.

Joan Buffaloe: Peekskill resident
Joan C. Buffaloe, a resident of Peekskill, died August 9 at her home.
She was 54.
She is survived by her daughter, Renita C. Ruff, and granddaughter, Myia I. Miller, both of Peekskill; sisters, brothers, other relatives and friends.
A Memorial Service will be held Friday, August 23 at 8 p.m. at Redeeming Love Christian Center in Nanuet.

Mildred "Milli" Cerchia: Montrose resident
Mildred N. "Milli" Cerchia, a resident of Montrose, died Monday at Calvary Hospital, in Bronx.
She was 66.
She was born February 16, 1936 in Brooklyn to Joseph and Nina Palminteri Gangi.
She was a data entry clerk at Maryknoll in Ossining.
She was the widow of Paul Navarra, who died in 1984.
She is survived by three daughters, Lissa Navarra of Queens, Lori Deskin of Mohegan Lake, and Lynn Navarra of Manhattan; two brothers, James Gangi of Greenlawn, LI, and Charles Gangi of Kansas; and one granddaughter, Jessica Negulic.
A Funeral Mass will be held Friday at 10 a.m. at St. Columbanus Church. Friends may call on Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at Edward F. Carter Funeral Home in Montrose. Burial will take place at Assumption Cemetery.

Patricia Ann Burnett: Peekskill resident
Patricia Ann Burnett, a resident of Peekskill, died August 16 at Hudson Valley Hospital.
She was 49.
She was born May 24, 1953 in Wake County, North Carolina to Arthur Junior Burnett and Helen Vinell Burnett.
She graduated from Peekskill High School in 1971 and attended Westchester Community College for Certified Day Care Provider.
She worked for Aunt Bessie Open Door, St. Peters Day Care Center and at home as a day care provider.
She was a longtime companion to Randy Moore for 31 years in Peekskill. She enjoyed reading, music, cooking, and spending time with her grandchildren.
She is survived by longtime companion Randy Moore; two sons, Kaiefa Burnett and Turan Burnett, and one stepdaughter, Fonda Longmire, all of Peekskill; grandmother Dora B. Winston; and three grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her parents, and two brothers, Arthur Ray Burnett and Roland Leon Burnett.

Therese Fowkes: Ossining teacher
Therese M. Fowkes died August 18 at her home in Ossining.
She was 60.
She was born October 15, 1941 in Brooklyn to James C. and Mary Rehr Maron.
She received her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in chemistry from New York University.
She was a math teacher at Ossining High School for more than 32 years until her recent retirement.
She is survived by her husband, Robert; one daughter, Elizabeth Santucci; one son, David; three sisters, Patricia Blauth, Bernadette Maron and Anne Staniorski; two brothers, William and Jerome Maron; and five grandchildren, Angela, Robbie and Daniel Fowkes and Catherine and John Robert Santucci.

Victor Giannone: Cortlandt resident
Victor S. Giannone, a resident of Cortlandt, died August 18.
He was 86.
He was born March 6, 1916 in Bridgeport, Connecticut to Carl and Teresa Scivoletto Giannone.
He owned and operated Travelite Luggage Center in Peekskill for 35 years before retiring in 1984.
Mr. Giannone served in the U.S. Army during World War II.
On April 20, 1941, he married Antoinette Mastracchio at Assumption Church in Peekskill.
He is survived by his daughters, Nina and son-in-law, Dominick Viola of Peekskill and Carla and son-in-law, Elliot Cashdan, of New York City; five grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
Family members who died earlier include two brothers, Peter and John.

Andre J. Bolduc: Ossining resident
Andre J. Bolduc died on Thursday, August 22 at Hudson Valley Hospital.
He was 64.
Bolduc was born in Canada June 9, 1938 to Cleophus Bolduc and Lucia Marquis.
He was a member of the Ossining Boat and Canoe Club and a member of the Teamsters Local #60 in Thornwood.
Bolduc is survived by his daughter Andrea Bolduc; his mother Lucia of Canada; four sisters Marie Ange Landry, Marie Jeanne Ducas, Solange Tremblay, and Lisa Rodrigues; his wife, Janyce; six step-children, Brian, John, George, Dawn and David; two grandchildren Jaslea Hemingway and Jasiana Hemingway; and six step-grandchildren, Donna, Janyce, Jazmin, Sabrina, Michael and Brian Jr.

Anthony P. Sirignano: Somers resident
Anthony P. Sirignano died on August 26, 2002.
He was 94.
Sirignano was born in Mt. Vernon to Alfonso and Rose (Cerbone) Sirignano.
Sirignano will be remembered for his devotion to his family. He was a loving husband, father, brother, grandfather, and great grandfather.
He is survived by his wife Lucy, son Professor William A. Sirignano of Irvine, California and daughter, Linda Carpenter of Somers.
Sirignano is also survived by 6 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren.
He is the brother of Dr. George (Helen) Sirignano of Somers, Lillian Petrillo of Mt. Vernon, and Dorothy (Dr. Richard) Spolzino of Somers.
He was predeceased by his brothers, Supreme Court Justice P. Raymond Sirignano and William P. Sirignano, and sisters, Mary Mancuso and Sylvia Sirignano.

Barbara Beaudry:
Barbara Brown Beaudry died August 24 after a short illness.
She met death at age 73 with courage, good intentions and a sense of humor.
She was born in Winthrup Massachusetts on August 2, 1929 to Herbert Walcott Brown and Dorothy Sewall Brown.
She married Paul H. Beaudry, her husband of nearly 54 years, on September 1, 1948. Paul survives at home.
She and her husband raised three children, David, Stephen, and Susan.
She is survived by David, and his wife Susan of Poughkeepsie, New York, and Stephen, and his wife Barbara of Lilburn, Georgia. She also leaves seven grandchildren, Laurie Gilbert, Sewall, Paul, Alexandra, Damon and his wife Carli, Brianna and Peter Beaudry. Her daughter, Susan Beaudry, predeceased her.
She had the heart of an artist. She was funny and irreverent. Her work areas teem with fabric. Paintings, books and newspaper clippings. A sign reminds those who enter that "Creative clutter is better than idle neatness." Painting and quilting were her loves. Genealogy was her passion.
She traced her roots through the centuries and helped countless genealogists on the Internet and in libraries.
She was proud to be a homemaker, wife, mother, grandmother and friend. She will be missed not only by her family, friends and neighbors, but by the postman, grocery clerk and all those she came in contact with in her daily life.

Doris DeVitta: Peekskill resident
Doris DeVitta, a Peekskill resident, died August 22.
She was 75.
Mrs. DeVitta was a homemaker and was the proprietor of her family’s business, Doris Shoppe, in Peekskill.
She was a member of Peekskill Senior Citizens and a parishioner of Assumption Church.
DeVitta was born June 24, 1927 in St. Petersburg, Florida, to Gabriel and Helen Boylan Goldberg. She attended Assumption School and graduated from Peekskill High School.
She married Phillip DeVitta at Assumption Church in Peekskill on September 18, 1947.
DeVitta is survived by her husband Phillip of Peekskill; a daughter Mary Ellen DeVitta of New Rochelle; a daughter Catherine DeVitta of Peekskill; a son Phillip DeVitta Jr. of Clearwater, Florida; and a granddaughter Christie.

Frances C. Fogg: Peekskill resident
Frances C. Fogg died Saturday, August 24.
She was 50.
Fogg worked as a Senior Office Assistant/aide at Con Edison and Entergy in Verplanck, New York.
Fogg was born in England on January 17, 1952 to Robert and Genevieve DeLuca Fogg, and was a graduate of Peekskill High School.
She is survived by her mother, Genevieve Fogg and brother Albert (Phyllis) Fogg, all of Peekskill.
She was predeceased by her father, Robert Fogg.

Frank Booth: Cortlandt Manor resident
Frank Booth died August 24, 2002 at the Westledge Nursing Home.
He was 83.
Booth was born on April 18, 1919 in Peekskill to Arthur and Edna Hiland Booth.
Booth attended the Peekskill Schools and worked for over 20 years as a painting supervisor at Camp Smith, before retiring in 1982.
He married Mary E. Kinney on June 19, 1955 in the Town of Cortlandt.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Booth, two daughters, Gail Parks and Marcia Oscarson, a sister, Marge Bender, a brother, Richard Booth, three grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Booth was predeceased by two brothers, Arthur "Bus" and Harold Booth.

John J. Cunningham: Yorktown resident
John J. Cunningham died August 21 at Holy Comforter Home.
He was 88.
Mr. Cunningham was born December 26, 1913 to Patrick and Mary Cunningham.
He worked for Metropolitan Life Insurance Company for 45 years in Manhattan and had lived in Yorktown Heights since 1955.
He was a member of St. Patrick’s Church.
Mr. Cunningham was predeceased by his wife Anne, who died in 1999, to whom he was a devoted husband for 58 years.
He is survived by their eight grandchildren: John of Clearwater, Florida; MaryAnn of Woodbury, Connecticut; Daniel of Berkley, California; Thomas of Whitestone, New York; Kathryn of Irvine, California; Anne of Coppell, Texas; Joan of Yorktown Heights; and Gerard of Cortlandt Manor.
Mr. Cunningham is also survived by one great-granddaughter, as well as his brother, Vincent and sisters Margaret and Patricia, and many nieces and nephews.

Joseph S. Daddazio: Ossining resident
Joseph S. Daddazio died Sunday, August 25, 2002 at Northern Westchester Hospital.
He was 70.
Daddazio was born in Ossining on November 1, 1931 and was the son of the late Frank and Adelina Polina Daddazio.
He was a retired Business Agent with Laborers International Union Local 535 in Elmsford.
He was a parishioner of St. Augustine’s Church in Ossining.
Daddazio is survived by his wife Mary D., his son Donald (Maureen), his daughter Mary Ann, his brother Albert, five grandchildren Marcie, Michelle, Michael, Kerri Lynn and Allison, and three brothers Guido, Dominick and Frank. His sister Mary Iozza predeceased him.

Katherine M. Graney: Mahopac resident
Katherine M. Graney, formerly of Yorkville in Manhattan, and the Highbridge section of the Bronx, died in her daughter’s home on Wednesday, August 21.
She was 87.
Graney was born in New York City on June 10, 1925, the daughter of Lawrence and Margaret (Keena) Lennon.
She was a parishioner of Our Lady of Good Counsel parish while she was in Yorkville.
She married her husband, Thomas F. Graney at Our Lady of Good Counsel. He died in 1989.
Graney was active in Sacred Heart parish in Highbridge until moving to Mahopac in 1973, where she was a parishioner of St. John the Evangelist Church.
She is survived by her daughter, Kathleen Kilcommons of Lawrenceville, New Jersey; her son, Kerry L. Graney of Mahopac; her brother, Lawrence Lennon of Jackson Heights, New York; her sister, Loretta Drennen of Houston, Texas and by eight grandchildren.

Maureen Thompson: former Yorktown resident
Maureen Thompson died at her home in Minneapolis, Minnesota on August 12.
She was 56.
Thompson legally changed her name to Maura Tichenor after moving to Minnesota in 1992.
She owned a home in Minneapolis and worked as a teacher in the Anne Sullivan Public School in Minneapolis where she specialized in teaching American Sign Language (ALS) that is used in teaching and communicating with the hearing impaired. She taught ALS to hearing students, as well, and taught science to non-hearing-impaired students.
A graduate of St. Barnabas High School in the Bronx, Ms. Tichenor received a Bachelor of Arts degree in English from Pace University. After moving to Minneapolis she earned a master’s degree in education from the University of Minnesota.
Born to and raised by deaf parents, Ms. Tichenor excelled in her second career as a teacher and interpreter for both deaf and hearing students. A research paper she had written as part of her master’s degree studies is now used as a teaching model in the university’s instructional program.
Prior to moving to Minnesota, Ms. Tichenor was employed as Marketing Director of Club Fit in Briarcliff Manor. She had previously been credit services manager for the Abraham and Strauss department store in White Plains, and as office manager of the Teatown Lake Reservation in Yorktown.
She is survived by a son, Ian Thompson, and his wife, Katie, of Seattle, Washington; a daughter, Amanda Thompson of Louisville, Colorado; a brother, James Lynch of Eastchester; a sister, Nora Cunningham of White Plains; her companion of seven years, Carl Maki, of Minneapolis; and many nieces, nephews and friends.
She is predeceased by her parents, James and Lucy Tichenor Lynch.

Ruth Ann Wolins: Mohegan Lake resident
Ruth Ann Wolins died on August 17, 2002.
Wolins is survived by her brother Arthur Edward Cassidy of West Palm Beach, Florida, a nephew, and a great niece.
She was predeceased by her mother Anna M. Cassidy in 1995, her husband Philip H. Wolins in 1988, and her sons Lawrence in 1985 and Edward D. Wolins in 1979.

Sam Burko: Putnam Valley resident
Sam Burko died on August 20, 2002.
Burko graduated as the Valedictorian from Evander Childs High School in 1976, and Upstate Medical College in 1980.
He worked at Bronx Municipal Hospital from 1980-2002 as a respiratory therapy and associate director of patient care.
He initiated state-of-the-art therapy for asthma, which is used throughout the country.
Burko was a humanitarian and spiritualist who will be profoundly missed by his family, friends and co-workers.
He is survived by his parents Helen and Abraham, siblings Paula and Scott, daughter Shayna and countless friends.

Cecelia Coronel: Cortlandt resident
Cecelia M. Coronel, a resident of Cortlandt, died August 31.
She was 55.
She was born March 4, 1947 to Harry G. and Lillian J. Smith Quirk in the Town of Lewisboro.
She worked for many years as a monitor for Laidlaw and Royal Coach Bus Company in Peekskill.
She is survived by her husband, Jose P. Coronel; one son, Manual S. Moniz of Somers; and two daughters, Lenore Giovi of Bronxville and Christle Coronel of the home address.
She was predeceased by a brother and a sister.

Charles C. Grune Jr.: Peekskill resident
Charles C. Grune Jr. died August 31 at his home in Peekskill.
He was 82.
He was born May 31, 1920 in Peekskill to Charles C. and Jane Farley Grune Sr.
He was a 1938 graduate of Peekskill High School. During World War II, Mr. Grune served in the United States Marine Corps, stationed in the Pacific, in the Solomon Islands.
He married Leatrice "Pidge" Joy in Grove City, Pennsylvania on October 17, 1942. She predeceased him in 1987.
He was a longtime employee of IBM Corp. as a field engineer, retiring in 1985.
Mr. Grune was a communicant at Assumption Church in Peekskill. He enjoyed bowling, golfing, and horseshoe competition.
He is survived by three daughters, Joy Ann Grune, Jane Ekizian and Janet Gover; one son, Jeffrey Grune; and four grandchildren.
He is predeceased by two sisters, Eleanor and Katherine Grune.

Estelle Ruth Bentley: Peekskill resident
Estelle Ruth Bentley, a resident of Peekskill, died August 23 at Hudson Valley Hospital Center.
She was 87.
She was born October 9, 1914 in Eastover, South Carolina to Fred and Lula Garner Fullenweider.
She was a nursing assistant at the FDR VA Hospital in Montrose for many years before her retirement. She was a member of the United Methodist Church of Peekskill.
She is survived by three sons, Alfred A. III, Kurt E. and Keith D. Bentley; three daughters, Barbara M. Gaffney, Carrie Weeks and Jo Ann Myers; one sister, Lula Mae Bridgewater; and a host of grandchildren and great grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her husband, Alfred A. Bentley II, and one daughter, Ruth Ann Baron.

Estelle Tuttle: Peekskill resident
Estelle Tuttle, a resident of Peekskill, died August 28.
She was 89.
She was born August 17, 1913 in Queens.
She was a hostess and manager for several restaurants in northern Westchester and worked at the Fran-Mar in Ossining for more than 15 years.
She was a member of Assumption Church in Peekskill and enjoyed playing bingo for many years.
She was predeceased by one son, Charles Edward Linehan, and two sisters.

Mary Lee Collins: Peekskill resident
Mary Lee Collins, a resident of Peekskill, died August 26.
She was 90.
She was born August 17, 1912 in Jackson, MS to Charles Henry and Phoebe Ward Collins.
She worked as a childcare worker for Dr. Mattes in New York City for many years.
She resided in New York City before moving to Peekskill in 1981.
She was a member of the Refuge Church of Christ in Peekskill.
She is survived by three daughters, Louise Madden, Betty Nadine Mason, and Mildred Ward; three sisters, Jewel Forte, E.J. Loftus and Esther Hodges; 16 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by one son, Willie Dixon, two brothers, Charles and Clemmins Collins, and six sisters, Lorraine Hollis, Lenore Collins, Irene Hutchinson, Laura Bonner, Grace McLoed and Ruth Banks.

Walter MacAlpin: Montrose resident
Walter D. MacAlpin, a resident of Montrose, died August 30.
He was 70.
He was born May 5, 1932 in New York City to William and Ellen Marie (Walsh) MacAlpin.
Mr. MacAlpin was a 38- year veteran of the United States Navy, serving during the Korean War and attaining the rank of 1st Class Chief Petty Officer.
He is survived by his son Michael and his wife Cori of Stony Point; son Patrick of Montrose; brother Kenneth of Port Ritchie, Florida and his children, and a brother Donald of New Jersey and his children, one sister-in-law Maureen Blair of Homosassa, Florida and her children Kathy, Kenny and John Kollmeier.
He was predeceased by his wife Patricia and one brother William.
