MR. CARL CARTER WILLIAMS JR.
Mr. Carl Carter Williams Jr., 86, of Newnan, formerly of Haralson, died Jan. 2, 1997 in Newnan.
Born Feb. 15, 1910 in Spalding County, Mr. Williams was the son of the late Carl Carter and Hazel Jones Williams of Senoia. He was preceded in death by a sister, Rosalind Williams Henslee, and brothers, Will Simpson Williams and Joel David Williams.
A member and deacon of Haralson Baptist Church, Mr. Williams spent most of his life in Haralson as a farmer. He was retired from Hutchinson Hardware in Senoia.
Graveside services were held Jan. 4 at Senoia City Cemetery with Dr. William M. Suttles officiating. Serving as pallbearers were his grandsons, Andy Williams, James Williams, Jeff Williams and Tim Windom.
Survivors include his wife Elizabeth Kempson Williams of Newnan; sons, Carl Carter (Sandra) Williams III, James Herbert (Joy) Williams, all of Newnan, Clark Andrew (Martha Ann) Williams of Senoia; sisters, Mrs. Lamar (Marie) Thompson of Haralson, Jeanette W. Storey of Alpharetta; brothers, Robert Daniel (Thelma) Williams of Elberton, Reuben Milton (Sue) Williams of Senoia; sisters-in-law, Helen Williams of Peachtree City, Hazel Williams of De Land, Fla.; seven grandchildren; two-great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

Mr. James E. Winkles, 70, of Mableton died Jan. 3, 1997 at Cobb General Hospital.
Born Oct. 12, 1926 in Coweta County, Mr. Winkles was a member of Ramah Baptist Church was a retired employee of Arrow Shirts.
Graveside services were held Jan. 5, 1997 at the Ramah Baptist Church Cemetery with the Rev. W.J. Hendrix officiating.
Survivors include his sisters, Mary Lurene Jones and Willene Pierce, both of Newnan.

Mrs. Gussie Mae Barber Callaway, 66, of Newnan passed away Dec. 29, 1996 at West Georgia Medical Center in LaGrange.
Mrs. Callaway was born in Sept. 19, 1930 in Coweta County.
Funeral services were held Jan. 1 at Elim Baptist Church with the Rev. Felton James officiating, assisted by the Rev. Oliver Wood, the Rev. Jimmy Hendrix and the Rev. Fabian Jenkins. Born March 18, 1910 in Georgia, Mrs. Collins was the daughter of the late Richard Floyd Lee and Mel (Phillips) Lee and the widow of Thomas M. Collins. She was a homemaker.
Graveside services were held Jan. 2 at Forest Lawn Memorial Park with the Rev. Danny Wilson officiating.

MR. THOMAS HEWLETTE HOLEMAN
Mr. Thomas Hewlette Holeman, 91, of Augusta died Dec. 30, 1996 at Augusta University Hospital.
Born Sept. 23, 1905 in Newnan, Mr. Holeman was the son of the late James Arthur Holeman and Elsie (Hyde) Holeman and the husband of the late Thelma (Bridges) Holeman. He was a retired cotton mill supervisor.
Mr. Holeman served as a deacon of Sylvan Hill Baptist Church in Augusta and was a member of the Capitol View Masonic Lodge.
Funeral services were held Jan. 2 at McKoon Funeral Home with the Rev. Loyd Landrum officiating. Interment followed at Oak Hill Cemetery in Newnan.
Survivors include his daughters, Reba H. Hardy of Augusta, Joanna Holeman Steed of Ruston, La.; sisters, Pauline Holeman Huff, Edna Holeman Wyche, both of LaGrange; 10 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Carole Ann Johnson, 53, of Peachtree City died Dec. 13, 1996.
Born March 3, 1953, Mrs. Johnson was the director of the Senior Friends chapter at Peachtree Regional Hospital.
Funeral services were held Dec. 17 at Carl J. Mowell and Son Funeral Home in Peachtree City with Father Frank McNamee officiating. Interment followed at Westminster Memorial Gardens in Peachtree City.
Survivors include her husband, Thomas Johnson; daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Brad (Barb) Jones of Peachtree City; sons, M. Jon Johnson of Cleveland, Ohio, Tommy Johnson of Peachtree City; brothers, Alex Harsanye , Paul Harsanye, both of Youngstown, Ohio, John Harsanye of Columbus, Ohio; three grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

MRS. EMILY JOHNSON MATHEWS
Mrs. Emily Johnson Mathews, of Houston, Texas, died Dec. 27, 1996 after a lengthy illness.
Born in Coweta County, Mrs. Mathews was the daughter of the late Egbert Daniel Johnson and Mary Kate Walker Johnson.
Mrs. Mathews grew up in Newnan, later marrying Clifford Mathews in 1934. The couple moved to Columbus and later to Houston in 1944.
Mrs. Mathews was a member of First United Methodist Church, where she served on numerous committees and was active in the United methodist Women, the Fellowship Sunday School Class. She was a founding member of the Oxford Class and was recently named a lifetime honorary member of the Methodist Hospital Auxiliary.
A member of the Delphian Society, Mrs. Mathews was a member of and president of the Downtown Opti-Mrs. Club and work to help develop the Boys and Girls Harbor.
Funeral services were held Dec. 30 at George H. Lewis and Sons Funeral Home in Houston. Interment followed at Forest Park Westheimer Cemetery.
Serving pallbearers were Charles Allen, Darwin Klinetob, Robert Adkins, William Andrews, Walker Johnson, Alan Stevenson, Fletcher Stevenson and James Stevenson. Honorary pallbearers were Mrs. Raymond Holiday, Mrs. Irving Moody, Mrs. Fred Pottoff, Tommy Lichenstein, Clifford Ownby and Carl Stevens.
Survivors include her husband Clifford Laurence Mathews; daughter, Marilyn Van Way of Houston; son, C.L. Mrs. Hugh Wilson Pope, 77, of Willow Drive in Newnan died Jan. 2, 1997 at his home.
Born March 28, 1919 in Newnan, Mr. Pope was the son of the late Edward Henry Pope and Ada Idahlia (Whitlock) Pope and the husband of the late Pauline Sarah (Holloway) Pope. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Newnan.
A U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, Mr. Pope was retired from R.D. Cole Company and the U.S. Postal Service.
Funeral services were held Jan 4 (today) at McKoon Funeral Home with the Rev. Don Helms officiating. Interment followed at Oak Hill Cemetery in Newnan.
Survivors include his son, David Pope of Lithonia; three grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

MISS MARTHA SEWELL
Miss Martha Sewell, 90, of the Lone Oak community of Meriwether County died Jan. 1, 1997 at Piedmont Hospital in Atlanta.
Born Dec. 30, 1906 in Lone Oak, Mr. Sewell was the daughter of the late Atticus and Mattie Sewell. She was a member of Allen-Lee Memorial United Methodist Church.
Mrs. Sewell graduated from the University of Georgia and was an elementary school teacher for 44 years before retiring from the Hogansville School System.
Funeral services were held Jan. 3 at Claude A. McKibben and Sons Funeral Home in Hogansville with the Rev. Karl Hunter officiating. Interment followed at the Allen-Lee Memorial United Methodist Church Cemetery with Wayne Sewell, Thomas Sewell, Rob Sewell, Stan Barber, Marc Barber, Howard Haynie, Pete Johnson and Fred Barnes serving as pallbearers.
Survivors include her sisters, Josephine Wells of Atlanta, Ruth Welchel of Decatur; brother, A. Pierce Sewell Jr. of Eclectic, Ala.; nieces and nephews.

Born Dec. 5, 1920 in Fayette County, Mrs. Smith was the daughter of the late Lee Otis Tate and the widow of Ector Roy Smith and Gertrude Moore. She was a homemaker and a member of Jones Chapel United Methodist Church in Madras.
Graveside services were held Jan. 1 at the Smith Family Cemetery with the Rev. Dan McFarland officiating, assisted the Rev. Horace Stewart. Pallbearers were Pete Snider, Kevin Smith, Ben Smith, Jay Rogers, Royce Williams and Allen Bowden.

Born Oct. 12, 1961 in Coweta County, Mr. Berry was a member of Zion Hill Baptist Church. A graduate of Newnan High School, he was employed by William L Bonnell Company.
Funeral services were held Dec. 27 at Zion Hill Baptist Church with the Rev. W.J. Clark and Aubrey Berry Jr. officiating, assisted by the Rev. Jimmy Hendrix, the Rev. Edward Foster and other ministers.
Interment followed at Eastview Cemetery with Bernard Arnold, Greg Arnold, Charles Chambers Jr., John Coleman, James Dodds, Sanford Freeman, Leonard Hatley, Johnny Horsley, Rod Horsley, Ron Howard, Jerome Jackson, Tyrone Jackson, Winfred Jackson, Jose Juarez, Anthony Partridge, Ernesto Rackley, Edward Reeves, Jan Smith, Vincent Smith and C.R. MR. ARTHUR THOMAS FLEMING
Mr. Arthur Thomas Fleming, 84, of Savannah died Dec. 29 at Azalealand Nursing Home.
A native of Savannah, Mr. Fleming was retired as chairman of the board of Fleming Supply Company after 52 years of service. He was a 1929 graduate of Benedictine Military School.
Mr. Fleming was a member and past president of the Hiberian Society, a fourth-degree member of the Knights of Columbus, past commodore and member of Savannah Yacht Club, past president and member of Savannah Sport Fishing Club, past captain of Savannah Quarterback Club, member of St. Andrews Society, member of Savannah Golf Club, member of the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary and a member of Communicant of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church.
A mass of Christian burial was held Dec. 31 at Communicant of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church. Interment followed in the church cemetery.
Survivors include his daughters, Sandra Pinckney of Wilmington, N.C., Shirley Creel, of Savannah; sons, Arthur T. "Corky" Fleming Jr., Michael Fleming, both of Savannah; brother, Charles A. Fleming of Nashville, Tenn.; 11 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

MR. THORNTON GRAHAM
Mr. Thornton Graham, 90, of Longboat Key, Fla. died Dec. 22.
Mr. Graham founded Graham Electronics Supply Company in 1932. The company grew from on location in Indianapolis to more than 10 in five states, ranking 11th-largest in the United States.
Mr. Graham also was responsible for the wiring and sound system at Indianapolis Motor Speedway after is World War II re-opening. He was named the Distributor of the Year in the late 1950s by the National Electronic Distribution Association.
Funeral services were held Dec. 28 in Chapel of the Flag at Washington Park East Cemetery in Indianapolis. Additional services were held Dec. 26 at Toal brothers Funeral Home in Sarasota, Fla.
Survivors include his wife, Dorothy Simpson Graham; children, Gordon M. Graham, Doris Graham Lyons; brother, Lowell Graham, eight grandchildren, including Karen Graham Nealy of Newnan; and 14 great-grandchildren.
Memorial contributions can be made to St. Armands Key Lutheran Church in Sarasota; Northminster Presbyterian Church in Indianapolis or The Heritage School in Newnan.

Mrs. Irene LonieMcGrady, 60, of Newnan died Dec. 20, 1996 at Georgia Baptist Hospital.
Born Sept. 27, 1936 in Newnan, Mrs. McGrady was the daughter of the late Arthur and Mary (Shirey) Hall. She was a homemaker.
Funeral services were held Dec. 22 at McKoon Funeral Home with the Rev. Charles Crenshaw officiating. Interment followed at Forest Lawn Memorial Park with her nephews serving as pallbearers.
Survivors include her husband, Ronald D. McGrady of Newnan; son, Randall Lee Thrower of Millen, Ga.; brother, Herschell Hall of Smyrna; sisters, Ruby Bridges of Moreland, Margaret Bell of Newnan, Hazel Baker, Norma York, Earlene Jackson, all of Moreland; two grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Mr. Peter Louis Nardelli, 94, of Newnan died Dec. 28, 1996 at his home.
Born, Nov. 29, 1902 in Ginosa, Italy, Mr. Nardelli was the son of the late Nicola and Maria Rosaria (Frascati) Nardelli and the husband of the late Hazel (Nelson) Nardelli. He was preceded in death by a son, Kenneth Nardelli.
Mr. Nardelli was a member of the Gordon Road Church of Christ.
Funeral services were held Dec. 31 (today) at McKoon Funeral Home with Mansel Carpenter officiating. Interment followed at Pitts Cemetery with Richard Walters, Ralph Kunse, Rickney Walters, Jay Orman, Carl Azuz and David Powell serving as pallbearers.

Born March 12, 1909 in Cleburn County, Ala., Mrs. Parham was the daughter of the late John and Sara Barker Zimmerman and the widow of R.E.L. "Boots" Parham. She was a member of St. James United Methodist Church in Hogansville, the Carrie Teal Circle and the Order of the Eastern Star.
Funeral services were held Dec. 28 at Claude A. McKibben and Sons Funeral Home with the Rev. Marion Shivers and the Rev. David Pickard officiating. Interment followed at Myrtle Hill Cemetery in Hogansville with Ricky Tarlton, Keith Nichols, Larry Parham, Charlie Peek, Jake Bartlett, Ronnie Dorsey and Raymond Zimmerman serving as pallbearers.
