LUNETTE A. HALE
ATLANTA - Lunette A. Hale, 92, formerly of 5 Mill St., passed away Friday (May 5, 2000) at the Hornell Gardens Skilled Nursing Facility.
Lunette was born Jan. 26, 1908 in East Springwater, a daughter of Hugh and Agnes (Tyler) Campbell. Lunette was the school nurse at Canisteo Central School for 30 years. She was predeceased by her husband Stanley Hale, a sister, Doris Rawleigh and a brother, Tyler Campbell. Lunette was a past member and 15 year organist of the St. Paul's United Church of Christ in Hornell, she also was a past member of the Hornell area Eastern Star.
She is survived by her sisters, Flora Brown of Atlanta; Lucille Dixon of Penfield; her sister-in-law, Loleta Campbell of Canandaigua; several nieces and nephews.
Friends may call 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday, at the Walter E. Baird & Sons Funeral Home, 100 E. Naples St., Wayland, where funeral services will be held 2:30 p.m. Sunday, with Rev. Thomas Montgomery and Rev. Dean Bembower officiating. Burial will be Stephens Mills Cemetery, Fremont.
Contributions may be made to the Hornell Gardens Skilled Nursing Facility, 434 Monroe Ave., Hornell, N.Y. 14843.

BARBARA M. ANDERSON
HORNELL - Barbara M. Anderson, 75, of Halifax, Mass., died Wednesday (May 3, 2000) at the home of her daughter, Dorothy (Roger) Utz of Hornell, following a long illness.
She was born Jan. 20, 1925 in Clinton, Mass., the daughter of Harry and Marion Somerville Whitcomb. She was married Oct. 10, 1945 to Warren H. Anderson, who survives.
She resided her early years in Clinton, moving to Halifax in 1945, where she was an active member of the Halifax Congregational Church.
She had done extensive volunteer work for the Girl Scouts, Reading for the Blind, and was a recipient of the Outstanding Volunteer of the Year Award in elementary education, for Plymouth County, Mass.
Barbara was a loving mother, who was very devoted to her family.
Survivors besides her husband and daughter include her grandson, Andrew W. Utz of Hornell; two sisters, Muriel Senter of Sterling, Mass; Shirley Bonazzoli of Bolton, Mass.; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held in Massachusetts on Monday.

MARION H. SHOULTICE
COHOCTON - Marion H. Shoultice, 84, of 11373 State Rte. 371, died Thursday (May 4, 2000) at her home, after a long illness.
Funeral arrangements are incomplete at St. George-Stanton Funeral Home in Wayland and will be announced in the Sunday Spectator.

GEORGE PSYHOS
HORNELL - George Psyhos, 80, of 83 East Washington St., died unexpectedly on Tuesday evening (May 2, 2000) shortly after arrival at St. James Mercy Hospital, after being stricken at home.
Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., on March 30, 1920, he was the son of James and Helen Psyhos.
George was a veteran of World War II and received the Purple Heart after being wounded in Italy. He has resided in Hornell since 1947.
In 1947, he purchased the Texas Cafe in Hornell, which he owned and operated until his retirement in 1982. He was a member of the Hornell American Legion and a former member of the Hornell Elks Lodge and the Hornell Masons.
George was an avid golfer and was a member of the Hornell Country Club. He was an annual participant of the Greek Open Golf Tournament. He also enjoyed bowling.
He was married on Sept. 12, 1949, to the former Georgia Scarmoutsos who survives. In addition to his wife he is survived by his children, James Psyhos of Coudersport, Pa.; Elaine (Psyhos) Sortore of Angelica; Manuel Psyhos of Hornell; Peter Psyhos of Winchester, Maine; two brothers, William (Regina) Psyhos of Grand Rapids, Mich.; Peter (Dee) Psyhos of Southern Pines, N.C.; two sisters, Dena Hillman of Pleasant Hill, Calif. and Vivian Brennan of Rochester; two granddaughters, Laura Sortore and Shayna Sortore; several nieces and nephews.
The family of George Psyhos will receive friends on Friday from 4 to 8 p.m. (only) at the Dagon Funeral Home, 38 Church St., Hornell, N.Y., where funeral services will be held on Saturday at 11 a.m. with burial in Rural Cemetery.
The Psyhos family requests that memorial donations in George's name be made to the Hornell Fire Department, 110 Broadway, Hornell, N.Y. 14843. Memorial forms will be available at the Dagon Funeral Home.

ELLA B. PLUNKETT
HORNELL - Ella B. Plunkett, 69, of Route 36, Town of Dansville, died unexpectedly early Tuesday morning (May 2, 2000) at Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester.
Born in Shongo, N.Y., on March 29, 1931, she was the daughter of Clifford Robbins and Bertha (Bost) Chilson. She has resided in Town of Dansville for about 20 years.
Surviving are two sons, Nicholas Cianciosi of Rochester; Bradley Pucula of Dansville; two daughters, Mary (Daniel) Wright of Dunkirk; Brenda (Thomas) Schumacher of North Tonawanda; her mother, Bertha Chilson of Dansville; one sister, Helen (Robert) Gardner of Arkport; several grandchildren, aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.
The family of Ella B. Plunkett will receive friends on Thursday (today) from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Dagon Funeral Home, 38 Church St., Hornell, where funeral and committal services will be held Friday at 9 a.m. with Rev. Robert Kanka officiating. Burial will be in Westfield, Pa.

IRMA F. BOWEN
CANASERAGA - Irma F. Bowen, 90, of 23 Bennett St., went home to be with her Lord, Monday (May 1, 2000), following a long illness.
She was born Nov. 13, 1909, in the Town of Grove, the daughter of Paul and Loie Gleason Maynard. She was married June 24, 1930 in Swain to Clifford W. Bowen, who died in 1990. She was predeceased by a daughter, Norma Kromer, a son, Maynard Bowen, and three sisters.
Irma resided her earlier years in Swain and had been a resident of Canaseraga for over 60 years. She was a member of the Burns Community Church.
Irma had a special touch when it came to growing plants, enjoyed crocheting and playing piano.
Survivors include three daughters; Elaine (Frank) Saunders; D. Nadine (Edward) Decker, both of Arkport; Lana (David) McIntosh of Canaseraga; a son, Duane C. Bowen and friend, Mary Richardson of Arkport; 20 grandchildren; 44 great grandchildren; eight great-great grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today at Robertson Funeral Home, Inc., 41 Genesee St., Hornell, where funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, with the Rev. Edison G. Ziegler and Rev. Daniel Evans officiating. Burial will be in Canaseraga Cemetery.

GRACE A. WASHBURN
ALMOND - Grace A. Washburn, 78, of 7782 Bishopville Rd., died Tuesday (May 2, 2000) at Jones Memorial Hospital, where she had been a patient for one day.
She was born July 31, 1921, in the Town of Almond, the daughter of Fred and Rose Stearns Washburn.
A lifelong resident of Almond, she had been employed by the former Kellogg's Grocery Store in Almond and later was a cashier at the former Loblaw's Store in Hornell for 32 years.
Grace enjoyed woodworking and carpentry and constructed her own home. More recently, she had operated a proprietary home for about 10 years.
Survivors include two sisters; May Washburn of Hornell, Betty Washburn of Almond; a brother, John Washburn of Wellsville; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
The family will receive friends from 3 to 5 p.m. Thursday at Robertson Funeral Home, Inc., Hornell, where funeral services will be held at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, with the Rev. Donald Maynard officiating. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery, Almond.

DAVID A. DRUM
HORNELL - David A. Drum, 24, of Gainesville, Fla., formerly of Hornell, died Saturday evening (April 29, 2000) in Clarksville, Tenn., following a long illness.
A native and life resident of Hornell, he was born Oct. 8, 1975 and was the son of William Drum of Howard and H. Maureen Tobin of Belfast. He had resided in Florida for the past seven months.
David was a 1997 graduate of Hornell High School. He was a lifelong sports enthusiast and had won the Hornell Little League "Good Sportsmanship" award in 1988. He competed in Special Olympics and was honored as Special Olympian of the year in 1994 at the Hornell Sports night. David enjoyed all sports including baseball, basketball, football, wrestling and fishing.
He was preceded in death by his brother, E. Daryl Drum who died in 1989 and also his nephew, Christopher Drum who died in 1992.
David is survived by his father, William Drum of Howard; his mother, H. Maureen (Jack Parker) Tobin of Belfast; two brothers, William Drum of Hornell and Wayne (Kim) Drum of Clarksville, Tenn; two sisters, Debbie (Jamie) Fleischman of Gainesville, Fla.; Wendy (John) Wood of Hornell; his paternal grandmother, Charlotte Drum of Hornell; his dear friends, Andrea VanRiper and Brian Avery, both of Hornell; several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.
The family of David A. Drum will receive friends on Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Dagon Funeral Home, 38 Church St., Hornell, where funeral and committal services will be held on Friday at 1 p.m. with Deacon Robert McCormick officiating. Burial will be in Rural Cemetery.
David's family would like to invite his friends to a luncheon to be held at the Hornell VFW immediately following the service.

ROSE MARIE DEMONTIS
SARATOGA SPRINGS - Rose Marie DeMontis, of Ballston Avenue, died Saturday (April 29, 2000) at Wesley Health Care Center, Lawrence Street. She was 95.
Born on March 17, 1905 in Hornell, she resided in Saratoga Springs since 1978. She retired from the Tuttle and Rockwell store in Hornell after many years of service and was a member and former officer of the Sons of Italy Ladies Auxiliary and St. Ann's Roman Catholic Church, both in Hornell. She was the daughter of the late Nicholas and Mary (Vito) Argentieri and was predeceased by her husband, Gavino DeMontis.
She is survived by one daughter, Donna Shinebarger of Ballston Spa; two grandchildren, Marc Shinebarger of Saratoga Springs and Gretchen Shinebarger of Manteo, N.C.; one great grandson, Eric Shinebarger; one brother, Raymond Argentieri of Hornell; two sisters, Mena Mangano of Rochester and Lucy Tannler of Medfield, Maine.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9 a.m. Tuesday in St. Clement's Church, 231 Lake Ave. Burial will be Wednesday in St. Ann's Cemetery in Hornell. Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. today at the William J. Burke & Sons Funeral Home, 628 North Broadway.

LILA M. FAIRBANKS
BATH - Lila M. Fairbanks, of West William Street, died Wednesday, (April 26, 2000) at Robert Packer Hospital in Sayre, Pa.
She was born Sept. 29, 1922, in N. Hornell, the daughter of Louis and Rose Ulrich Crawford.
She was a clerk for New York Telephone for 35 years.
Lila was a member o the Pioneers Organization and the St. Paul United Church of Christ in Hornell.
She is survived by her daughter, Barbara Ann (Ronald) Fitzpatrick of East Lime, Conn.; two sons, Wayne (Margaret) Fairbanks of Painted Post; John (Katherine) Fairbanks of Bath; 10 grandchildren, Beth Fitzpatrick; Nicole, Kelly and Auriel Fairbanks; Jonathan, Christina and Zachary Fairbanks; Heather, Michael and Jennifer Cavallaro; her brother, Robert (Bernice) Crawford of Rochester; her sister, Ruth Krammer of Oneida; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was predeceased by her brother, Howard Crawford.
Friends may call at Fagan's Funeral Home in Bath, on Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Funeral services will be held at the St. Paul United Church of Christ in Hornell on Saturday at 11 a.m., Rev. Ray Horan officiating. Burial will be in Hornell Rural Cemetery.

MERTON C. KYSER JR.
OLEAN - Merton C. Kyser Jr., of East Spring Street, died Tuesday (April 25, 2000) at the V.A. Buffalo Western New York Health Care SYS.
Born in Allegany on Oct. 17, 1922, he was the son of Merton C. and Grace Kibby Kyser. He graduated from Olean High School in 1939. On March 7, 1944 in Knoxville, Tenn., he married Betty J. Harvey, who predeceased him Sept. 10, 1997.
Mr. Kyser served as Second Lieutenant with the United States Air Corp. during World War II as a Navigator Bombardier. He was a member of the American Legion Post No. 530, where he served as past Commander.
Mr. Kyser was employed as an auto mechanic for many years prior to his retirement. He later worked as superintendent of maintenance at Green Thumb in Arkport.
Mr. Kyser loved the outdoors, NASCAR Winston Cup Races and trains.
He is survived by daughters Marshela Kyser-Buckley of Las Vegas, Nev.; Arleen McWilliams of Bloomfield, N.Y.; sister, Shirley Russell of Olean; brother, Merle Kyser of Tucson, Ariz.; six grandchildren, and four great grandchildren.
Friends will be received on Friday at the Halwig Funeral Home, 117 Hamilton Street, Olean from 1 to 3 p.m. Graveside committal service with military honors will follow at Allegany Cemetery.
Memorial may be made to Comstock Hospice, 1225 West State Street, Olean, N.Y. 14760.

PEARL BEATRICE COOGAN
HORNELL - Pearl Beatrice Coogan, beloved wife of Ralph Coogan and mother of Ralph "Jim" Coogan, Frederick Coogan and Teresa Jaycox, died Thursday evening (June 15, 2000) at her home.
Calling hours are from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at the Bishop & Johnson Funeral Home, Inc., 285 Main Street, Hornell. Funeral service arrangements are incomplete.

ARKPORT - Don Kennell, 64, of 8150 Lisman Lane, died early today (June 16, 2000) at his home.
Funeral arrangements entrusted to Bender-Brown & Powers Funeral Home, Hornell, will be announced in Sunday's Spectator.

GEORGE A. DODD
MESA, Ariz. - George A. Dodd, 84, passed away Sunday (June 4, 2000).
He was born Oct. 16, 1915, in Salamanca, and resided in Hornell, until moving to Mesa, Ariz., in Oct. 1975.
He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and spent 41 years of faithful and conscientious service working for the Erie Lackawanna Railroad.
George was the loving husband of Audrey Haynes for 64 years. He was devoted to his family, daughter Julie and her husband, Keith Benjamin; and daughter, Evy and her husband Phil Hartley; grandchildren, Amy and Erica Benjamin, Larry and wife Amanda, Christopher, and Jeff Hartley; great grandchildren, Kyra and Nathan Hartley; his son, Larry, died at age seven. He is survived by sister Alice; brothers, Floyd and Donald.
His brothers, Louie and Harry predeceased him.
George was a very hard worker, a responsible citizen, and loved helping others. He was also a great sports enthusiast, and golf was a passion. He was a member of the VFW, American Legion, and Hornell High School Alumni Association.
George requested no visitation or public services.

GERTRUDE SIMS CALLAGHAN
FAIRPORT - Gertrude Sims Callaghan, formerly of North Hornell, died June 11, 2000, at the age of 98. She was the widow of Henry Burdette Callaghan, who died in 1944.
For many years she was hostess at the Hornell Country Club, until she became a housemother at Delta Chi Sorority in Alfred.
After the death of her parents, she moved to Fairport, N.Y. in the mid- '70s.
She was predeceased by her brothers Earl, Jeffrey and Jack and by her sister Mary Elizabeth Sims of Hornell.
She is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Bonnie and Ted Wheeler of Fairport; Billie and George Botti of Huntington, Long Island; seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. She is also survived by a sister-in-law Miriam Callaghan of Hornell.
Mrs. Callaghan's father, Harry W. Sims was, for several years, foreman of the Composing Room at the Hornell Evening Tribune.
A graveside service will be held at Hope Cemetery, Hornell at the convenience of the family.

NELLIE M. DICKINSON
ROCHESTER - Nellie M. Dickinson, 87, a long time resident of Hornell, died Saturday (June 10, 2000) in Rochester, where she had lived for the last five years.
For 40 years, Miss Dickinson was well-known by two generations of students in Hornell High School, where she taught science and for the last 15 years of her career was the guidance director. She retired in 1974.
Active in the community, education, and church life of Hornell, she was a past president of the Fortnightly Club; a past president of Delta Kappa Gamma, honorary education society; and a former member of the Board of Directors of Campfire Girls. Miss Dickinson was a member of United Presbyterian Church, where she served as an elder.
Survivors include two sisters, Elizabeth Dickinson of Rochester; Dorothy D. Stevens of Wilmington, Del.; a brother, John E. of East Aurora; two nieces and two nephews; a great niece and six great nephews.
Graveside services will be held privately at the convenience of the family.

JOSEPH CHOURET
WARSAW - Joseph Chouret, 92, of Brooklyn Street, died Monday (June 12, 2000) at home.
He was born Jan. 6,1908 in New York City, son of the late Leon and Matilda Touiletti Chouret. Mr. Chouret was employed for over 30 years with the former Pavilion Natural Gas Co. He retired in 1973 as a foreman for the company. He was a member of St. Michael's Church, Warsaw; The Loyal Order of the Moose No. 560, Warsaw; the Wyoming Co. Veterans Club, Warsaw and was an avid bowler and card player.
He was predeceased by his wife Rose in 1993.
Surviving are one brother-in-law John (Helen) Nasca of Warsaw; one sister-in-law, Josephine DiGuardi of Summerfield, Fla.; and several nieces.
Friends may call Thursday 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Robinson & Hackemer Funeral Home, 246 North Main Street, Warsaw. Prayers will be said Friday at 9:30 a.m. at the funeral home, followed by a funeral Mass at 10 a.m. at St. Michael's Church in Warsaw. Burial will be in St. Patrick's Cemetery, Mt. Morris.

DARLENE M. WAITE
COHOCTON - Darlene M. Waite, 46, of 38 South Main Street, died Sunday (June 11, 2000) in Noyes Memorial Hospital after a short illness.
Darlene was born Oct. 19, 1953 in Bath, the daughter of Howard and Betty Lyon Quanz and was a Cohocton resident most of her life. She married George Waite on Aug. 2, 1997, who survives.
She was employed at Moore-Cottrel in N. Cohocton and was presently employed at the Wayland-Cohocton Central School.
Darlene is survived by her husband, George; her mother, Betty Quanz of Cohocton; one sister, Sheryl (Michael) Moore of Atlanta; one brother, Jack (Anita) Quanz of Bath; several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Friends may call 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the St. George-Stanton Funeral Home, 109 West Naples Street, Wayland. Funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m. Thursday at the Zion Lutheran Church, Cohocton, with Rev. David Bernard officiating. Interment will be in Zion Lutheran Cemetery, Cohocton.
Contributions may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.

ERNEST J. HALL
NUNDA - Ernest J. Hall, 66, of Kendall Road, passed away Thursday afternoon (June 8, 2000) in Strong Memorial Hospital following a long illness.
He was born in Wallace, On June 6, 1934, a son of the late Wilbur and Leona Cobb Hall. On Oct. 3, 1954, he was married to Patricia Babcock, who survives.
Ernest worked for the Kennedy Farm for 22 years. He also had worked for the Dansville Press before his retirement. He enjoyed woodworking, gardening, fishing, and being outdoors.
Surviving in addition to his wife, Pat, are his three sons, Ed Hall and Floyd Hall both of South Carolina; Morris Hall of Nunda; five daughters, Patricia Jones of South Carolina; Star Bassett of West Sparta; Melany Brooker and Tanya Hall both of Nunda; Leanna Hall of Dalton; a sister, Stella O'Brien of Delevan; his mother-in-law, Isabelle Totton of Dansville; 15 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
Friends may call Tuesday from 10 to 11 a.m. at the Hindle Funeral Home, 271 Main Street, Dansville, where services will be held at the completion of calling hours at 11 a.m. Interment will be in South Sparta Cemetery, Sparta.

CANISTEO - Deborah D. Knapp, 27, of McAuley Manor, formerly of 3 Fourth Street, died Thursday (June 8, 2000) at St. James Mercy Hospital following a long illness.
Deborah was born March 22, 1973 in Dansville, to Alan and Susan Snowman Knapp. She was predeceased by her father on March 30, 1995. She was a graduate of Canisteo Central School, class of 1993, had attended the First Presbyterian Church in Canisteo and was president of residence council at McAuley Manor.
Survivors include her mother, Susan Knapp of Arlington, Va.; two brothers, Richard (LouAnn) Knapp of New Mexico: James Knapp of Canisteo; three sisters, Wendy (Michael) Bartholomew and Jean (Louis) Sterns both of Hornell; Barbara (Edward) Wagner of Mooresville, N.C.; aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and several cousins.
Friends may call Sunday June 11 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the H.P. Smith & Son, Inc. Funeral Home in Canisteo, where funeral services will be held Monday June 12 at 11 a.m. with Rev. Brian Diffenbacher officiating.
