JULIA S. CAMPO
DANSVILLE - Julia S. Campo, 98, of Spruce Street in Dansville died Wednesday (Sept. 27, 2000) at the Seager House in Hornell after a brief illness.
She was the widow of Jesus "Jack" Campo who preceded her in death Feb. 18, 1981. Julia and Jack had been married 60 years. She was born in Colindres, Spain on Jan. 28, 1902, the daughter of Pedro and Juana Santiago. Julia immigrated to the United States in 1920. She and her husband owned and operated the Campo Twins Grill in Groveland for many years. She was a communicant of St. Mary's Church in Dansville and former member of the Rosary Society, the Groveland Fire Co. Womens Auxiliary and the Daniel Goho American Legion Womens Auxiliary.
Besides her husband, Julia was predeceased by one son, Frank J. Campo, daughter-in-law Elizabeth "Betsy" Campo, and brothers Manual and Joseph Santiago.
Mrs. Campo is survived by three sons; Julis J. of Dansville, Joseph A. "Tony" of Stuart, Fla., and Dr. John (JoEllen) del Campo of Alfred; three sisters, Rosie Diaz and Mary Santiago of Newark, N.J. and Elizabeth Sanchis of California; 17 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Friends may call Friday from 2 to 4 & 7 to 9 p.m. at the Chamberlin Funeral Home Inc., 73 Main St., Dansville. A funeral mass will be held Saturday at 10 a.m. at St. Mary's Church with the Rev. Eugene P. Ulrich officiating. Burial will take place in Holy Cross Cemetery in Dansville.

MURRELL HERRNECKER
SANFORD, FLA. - Murrell HerrNecker, 90, of N. Sunland Drive, Sanford, Fla., died Thursday (Sept. 21, 2000).
Born in Hornell, he moved to central Florida in 1975. He was a machinist for Bearing Manufacturing.
Survivors include his wife, Jane HerrNecker of Sanford, Fla.; his son, Jerald C. HerrNecker of Hornell; his daughter, Rita K. Krywonos of Herkimer; a sister, Kathryn Berrey of Hornell; six grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral arrangements are by Baldwin-Fairchild Funeral Home Oaklawn Chapel, 5000 C.R. 46A, Sanford, Fla. 32771.

DONALD A. FEE
SPRINGWATER - Donald A. Fee, 71, of 7784 Wetmore Road in Wayland, died Wednesday (Sept. 27, 2000) in Bath VA Hospital following a short illness.
Funeral arrangements are incomplete by St. George-Stanton Funeral Home in Wayland. A complete obituary will appear in Friday's edition of The Evening Tribune.

WAYNE W. "BUCKY" HARRIS
AVOCA - Wayne W. "Bucky" Harris, 63, died Tuesday afternoon (Sept. 26, 2000) at his home at 5934 County Route 8.
Born in Lockhaven, Pa. on July 19, 1937, he was a son of the late William and Evelyn Brungard Harris.
A former resident of Wayland, Bucky was a graduate of Wayland Central School and attended S.U.N.Y. at Alfred.
He had resided in Avoca for the past 12 years and was employed for several years for VanScoter Fuel. Before his retirement in 1998 he was employed as a bus driver for Avoca Central School.
Bucky attended the Wallace Wesleyan Church and was a member of both the Wayland and Avoca historical societies.
He also enjoyed collecting trains.
His family includes his wife, the former Shelby Merrills, who he married in Avoca on Oct. 9, 1965; his son, Douglas (DeLora) Sullivan of Wayland; his two grandchildren, Mark and Danielle Sullivan also of Wayland; his brother, James (Joyce) Harris of North Dakota; his two sisters, Joan Shields of Michigan and Barb (Gerald) Collins of Canandaigua; also his nieces and nephews.
Calling hours are from 3 to 5 & 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at the Bond-Davis & Bishop Funeral Home in Avoca, where a funeral and committal service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday with the Rev. Daniel Pickering officiating. Interment will follow at Ashley Cemetery in Springwater.
In lieu of flowers, those wishing may contribute in Wayne's memory to either the Wayland Historical Society or the Avoca Ambulance Corps.

ANDREW W. WHITEMAN
JASPER - Andrew W. Whiteman, 89, of 2852 Main St., Jasper, formerly of Springville, entered into rest on Monday (Oct. 16, 2000) at his residence in Jasper following an extended illness.
He was born in Jasper on Aug. 15, 1911, the son of Charles and Ella Woodard Whiteman. He married the former Evelyn Ahrens on Jan. 11, 1942 in Springville.
Andrew had been a dairy farmer in Springville and also was employed as a machinist at Curtis - Buffalo and American Machine and Foundry before returning to his native home of Jasper 35 years ago. He then operated a machine shop at his home for many years.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Evelyn Whiteman of Jasper; two sons, Charles (Nancy) Whiteman of Stanley and William Whiteman of Norwood, N.C.; two step daughters, Jean (Walter) Spalti of Springville and Jane Engels of West Valley; two step sons, George ( Mary) Phillips of West Valley and Edward (Sue) Phillips of Springville; 24 grandchildren and many great-grandchildren.
Also surviving are sisters, Leona Kilmer of Colville, Wash., Rachael Cook of Painted Post and Ruth Whiteman of Montour Falls; and a brother, Randall Whiteman of Jasper.
The family will receive friends at the Whiteman residence at 2852 Main St., Jasper, on Thursday, Oct. 19 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Services will be conducted there at 6 p.m. with Rev. Charles Emerson, pastor of the Boyds Corners Baptist Church officiating. Burial will follow Friday at 10 a.m. at Maplewood Cemetery in Springville.

E. VIRGINIA ELSON
AVOCA - E. Virginia Elson, 81, of Skyfields, Smith Pond Road, Avoca, N.Y. and Homestead, Fla. died Saturday (Oct. 14, 2000) at St. James Mercy Hospital after a long illness.
Miss Elson was born in Albion, N.Y., the daughter of Dr. J. Arthur and Emma Bennet Elson. She was a graduate of the State University of New York at Albany and Columbia University.
After teaching English and American literature for 30 years, she retired to her home on Smith Pond and became editor of "Yes-A Magazine of Poetry." She conducted poetry workshops and gave poetry readings of her own work throughout New York state and south Florida. Her publishing credits include "The Atlantic", "The Literary Review", "Prairie Schooner", "Yankee Magazine" and "Poetry Northwest". Collections of her own work include "Where in the Sun to Stand" and "Echoes for Direction".
Miss Elson leaves a niece, Kathryn Tomassen of Buffalo; a cousin, Mary Elizabeth Johnson of Syracuse; and Sarah A. Curtis, her companion of 26 years with whom Miss Elson shared a home.
Arrangements are under the direction of Fagans Funeral Home in Bath. Following Miss Elson's directions, there are no calling hours. A memorial service will be held at Skyfields in Spring of 2001 at the convenience of family and friends.

WILLIAM B. "BILL" DAILEY
HORNELL - William B. "Bill" Dailey, 83, of 82 Bennett St., Hornell, died early Saturday morning (October 14, 2000) at St. James Mercy Hospital, following a long illness.
A native and life resident of Hornell, he was born July 3, 1917, and was the son of Daniel & Mary (Fitzstephens) Dailey.
He was a graduate of Hornell High School and later graduated from Rochester Business Institute. Bill was a Veteran of WWII, serving in the U.S. Army, and saw action in North Africa, Sicily and Italy. He was employed for 31 years as a conductor for the former Erie Railroad, Erie-Lackawanna and Conrail, retiring in 1979.
Bill was a communicant of both St. Ann's Church and St. Ignatius Loyola Church. He was a member of the Hornell American Legion and a life member of the Loyal Order of Moose. He was an avid sportsman who enjoyed hunting. He also enjoyed gardening.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Peggy Dailey, who died in 1955; five brothers, Daniel, Martin "Bud", Harold, infant brothers Joseph and Raymond; and also his sister, Dorothy Shevalier.
On September 20, 1945, Bill married the former Grace Coogan, who survives. In addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Sally (Joe) Feeley of North Hornell and Barbara (Mike) Kramer of Hornell; four sons, William (Wendy) Dailey of Andover, Jack (Elaine) Dailey of Arvada, CO, Michael (Shelly) Dailey of Parker, CO and Richard (Laurie) Dailey of Bellville, Pa; two sisters, Patricia Young of Hornell and Mary Kreitz of Sacramento, Ca; 19 grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; as well as several nieces and nephews.
The family of William B. "Bill" Dailey will receive friends on Monday from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. at the Dagon Funeral Home, 38 Church St., Hornell, NY, where a prayer service will be held on Tuesday at 10:30 a.m., followed by a Mass of Christian burial at 11 a.m. at St. Ann's Church. Burial will be in St. Ann's Cemetery.
Bill's family requests that memorial contributions in his name by made to the Hornell Alumni Association, P.O. Box 135, Hornell, NY 14843. Memorial forms will be available at the Dagon Funeral Home.

ELDON J. LUDWIG
DALTON - Eldon J. Ludwig, 91, of Dalton, died Thursday, October 12, 2000.
Eldon was born on September 15, 1909 in the town of Granger to Adelbert and Grace Nusbickel-Ludwig.
He is survived by his wife, Margaret of Dalton; a son, Gary (Francine) Ludwig of Dalton; two daughters, Kathleen S. (Arnold) Henry of Gloversville and Janet L. Williams of Churchville; and grandchildren Teresa Ludwig and Christopher Williams.
Friends may call at the Mann Funeral Home in Nunda today from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. Funeral services will be held on Monday at 11 a.m., with the Rev. David Peck officiating. Interment will be in Hunt Hollow Cemetery in Portageville.
Memorial donations may bemade in his memory to the Nunda Ambulance or to the Livingston County Hospice.

VIRGINIA M. MURPHY
WELLSVILLE - Virginia M. Murphy, 83, of 319 South Main Street, died Saturday in her home after a long illness.
She was born June 1, 1917 in Canisteo, the daughter of Delbert and Edith Mullikan-Van Skiver.
She was a resident of Hornell prior to moving to Wellsville.
On July 1, 1949 in Hornell, she was married to Darrel C. Murphy, who died on July 29, 1993.
She was a graduate of the Jasper High School Class of 1935.
For many years she was a waitress in the Corning area, was also a telephone operator in Corning and locally was a sales representative for Avon Products and was known as one that would always transport patients to medical appointments.
She was a member of the Wellsville Ladies of the Moose.
She is survived by a daughter, Nancy Traves of Newport, RI; four sons, Larry (Dorothy) Murphy of Winston-Salem, NC, Kevin (Jeanette) Murphy of Keuka Park, Darryl Murphy of Wellsville and Barrie Murphy of Wellsville; eight grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; a sister, E. Althea (Sam) Marts of Canisteo; a brother, Arlee (Joyce) VanSkiver of Canisteo; her mother-in-law, Esther Rankin of Winthrop, as well as several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by a brother, LaVerne Van Skiver.
Friends may call at the Mulholland Crowell Funeral Home in Wellsville on Monday from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m., where funeral services and commital services will be held on Tuesday at 1 p.m, with the Rev. Phillip Casterline of the Living Waters Church of Hornell officiating. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery in Canisteo.

ANTHONY J. "TONY" PRESTI SR.
WAYLAND - Anthony J. "Tony" Presti Sr., 79, of 8469 Alpaugh Road, died Sunday (Oct. 15, 2000) in St. James Mercy Hospital after a long illness.
Tony was born April 1, 1921 in Punxsutawney, Pa., the son of Stefano and Kathryn Crivella Presti. A resident of Maryland his early life, he moved to the Rochester area 38 years ago and has resided in the Wayland area for the past 29 years.
Tony married the former Beverly Nagel on July 15, 1967 in Arcade, who survives. Together Tony and Beverly founded, owned and operated Tony's Floor Covering on Main Street in Wayland.
A World War II Navy Veteran he served in the Atlantic Theater and after service he was in the Merchant Marines.
He was a member of the Springwater American Legion, Dansville V.F.W. and the Disabled American Veterans.
Besides his wife Beverly, he is survived by four sons, Stephen (Judy) Presti of Upper Marlboro, Md., James (Pam) Presti of Delta, Pa., Tony J. Presti Jr. (Sheryl Johnson) of Pipersville, Pa., and Bart Presti (Kathy Stone) of Springwater; one daughter, Veronica Kathy (John) Orlando of Ellicott City, Md.; two brothers, Frederick (Maysie) Presti of Warrington, Pa., and Albert (Billie) Presti of Fayettville, Tenn.; one sister, Irene (William) Ricci of Cape Cod; nine grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in St. Josephs Church in Wayland at a time to be announced. Internment will be in St. Josephs Cemetery.
Contributions may be made in Tonys' name to Vincent House (Hospice), 310 Second Avenue, Wayland 14572 or the American Cancer Fund.

BETTY P. WOODWORTH
HORNELL - Betty P. Woodworth, 73, of 1190 Webbs Crossing Road passed on peacefully Wednesday (Oct. 11, 2000) at her home under the care of her family, friends, and Hospice caregivers.
Born in Oil City, Pa. on Jan. 22, 1927, a daughter of Harry and Pearl Walters Heckathorne, she was a graduate of Oil City Senior High School. She had attended Roberts Wesleyan College in Rochester, and received her RN Degree from the Oil City General Hospital School of Nursing. She had been employed as an operating room nurse for the former Bethesda Community Hospital and also managed the Kanakadea Recreational Park from 1967 - 1977.
She was a member of the Glad Tidings Assembly of God in North Hornell, and the Monroe County Multiple Sclerosis Society. She was an avid Buffalo Bills fan and will be remembered for her guitar playing and singing.
Surviving are her husband, William Woodworth of Hornell; two daughters, Nancy France of Arkport and two grandsons, Charles and Raymond France; and Debra Ann Woodworth of Buffalo; several other grandchildren; one son, William J. Woodworth stationed with the US Navy in Williamsburg, Va.; and one granddaughter, Heather Woodworth.
The family will be present from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday to receive friends at the Bender-Brown & Powers Funeral Home, 354 Canisteo St., Hornell, where funeral services will be held Monday at 11 a.m. with Rev. Bruce Dravneek officiating. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery in Canisteo.

HARRIET VANDERHOEF
HARRISBURG, PA. - Harriet Vanderhoef, 58, of Harrisburg, Pa., died Wednesday ( Oct. 11, 2000) in Harrisburg, following a long illness.
She was born Feb. 6, 1942 in Canisteo to Howard and Eudora Campbell Kendall. She married Lynn J. Vanderhoef Jr. who predeceased her in December of 1991.
She is survived by two sons, Howard Vanderhoef of Harrisburg and Donald Vanderhoef of Enola, Pa.; five daughters, Eudora Timmons of Landisburg, Pa., Laurie Rakocy of Harrisburg, Pamela Vanderhoef of Marysville, Pa., Kelly Sheriff of Coopersville, Mich., and Marie Hoffman of Enola; four brothers, Robert Kendall of Addison, Frank Kendall of Dansville, Floyd and Peter Kendall of Canisteo; three sisters, Grace Pettys and Florence Kendall of Canisteo and Margaret Kendall of Angelica; 11 grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends Monday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the H.P. Smith & Son, Inc. Funeral Home in Canisteo. A graveside service will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. in the Greenwood Cemetery with the Rev. Mark Wade officiating.

JOHN WASHBURN
WELLSVILLE - John Washburn, 83, of 3106 Riverside Drive died Wednesday (Oct. 11, 2000) in the Wellsville Manor Nursing Home.
John was born Jan. 31, 1917 in Almond, the son of Fred and Rose Stearns Washburn. On June 14, 1952 he married the former Phyllis Goodridge who predeceased him on Oct. 7, 1997.
He graduated from the former Almond Central School and served in the US Army during WWII in the Philippines. He worked for and retired from the former Masons Typewriter Exchange in Almond.
Survivors include a stepson, Harold (Jean) Slocum of West Almond; two sisters, May Washburn of Hornell and Betty Washburn of Almond; several step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
Friends may call from noon to 2 p.m. Saturday at the J.W. Embser Sons Funeral Home in Wellsville where funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. following calling hours. Rev. Thomas Wickett will officiate. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, those wishing may make memorial contributions to the Wellsville Volunteer Ambulance Corps. or to the American Heart Association.

MILDRED I. STEWART
WOODHULL - Mildred I. Stewart, 88, of 5264 Washington St. passed away Wednesday (Oct. 11, 2000) at Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester.
Born in the Town of Troupsburg, Jan. 21, 1912, she was the daughter of Edwin and Edith Rice.
Mildred was a member of the 1st Baptist Church of Woodhull, and was a Sunday School Teacher for many years, a member of the former Woodhull Grange and was a former librarian at the Woodhull Public Library.
She married Arthur M. Stewart, Nov. 17, 1928 who survives.
Also surviving are one daughter and son-in-law, Doris and Darland Peters of Woodhull; one son and daughter-in-law, Duane and Viola Stewart also of Woodhull; seven grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her brother, Earl Rice and sisters, Minnie Hunt, Martha Kernan, Nellie Harding, Winifred Taft and Evelyn Rice.
Friends may call today from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the H.P. Smith and Son Inc. Funeral Home, 1607 Main Street, Woodhull, where funeral services will be conducted Saturday at 11 a.m. with Rev. Brian Diffenbacher will officiate. Burial will be in Woodhull Cemetery.

RALPH E. PRESTON
HORNELL - Ralph E. Preston, 59, of 32 Glen Avenue died Wednesday (Oct. 11, 2000) unexpectedly at St. James Mercy Hospital.
Born Sept. 19, 1941 a son of Charles and Eva Wilson Preston he had been a lifelong area resident. He graduated Canisteo Central School class of 1960. On Feb. 3, 1962 he married the former Shirley (Askins) Preston who survives. Ralph had been a member of the Hornell Elks and the Moose Clubs. He had belonged to the Civil Air Patrol as well as the Civil Defense, and was a member of the Amateur Radio Relay Assoc. He had attended the Glad Tidings Church of Hornell. Ralph retired, in 1995 after 32 and a half years of dedication to the New York State DOT. He had received numerous meritorious awards for his job service. After his retirement he had worked for Wal-Mart, Value Home Center, and was a surveyor for Stewart Howard.
Surviving in addition to his wife Shirley of over 38 years are four daughters, Cynthia (Gerry) Murray of Hornell, Sandra (John) McMindes of Canisteo, Debbie (Brent) Hockaday of Bath and Pam (Billy) Colomaio of Hornell; one brother, Victor (Jean) Preston of Canisteo; five grandchildren, Kristopher and Sharayah McMindes of Hornell, Megan and Noah Hockaday of Bath and Vinnie Colomaio of Hornell; one great-aunt, Olive Marchese of Rochester; many nieces, nephews and cousins.
The family will be present Today from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. to receive friends at the Bender-Brown & Powers Funeral Home, 354 Canisteo St. Hornell. Funeral services will be held Friday at 10 a.m. at the Glad Tidings Assembly of God Church of Hornell with Rev. Bruce Dravneek officiating. Burial will be in Hornell Rural Cemetery.

WARD M. ALEXANDER
IRVINGTON, N.J. - Mr. Ward M. Alexander of Irvington, NJ died Tuesday (Oct. 10, 2000) at St. Barnabas Medical Center in Livingston, N.J. He was born in Glens Falls and lived there until moving to Irvington, N.J. in 1925. He also maintained a summer home at Lake Demmon, Bath.
Mr. Alexander was employed by the Board of Education, Irvington, N.J. from 1925 until retiring in 1964 as a Industrial Art Teacher and later Supervisor of the Industrial Arts Department at Irvington High School. He received his college degree from the Rochester Institute of Technology, Rochester, and his masters degree from Rutgers University in New Brunswick in 1948.
He was a member of the Rotary Club of Irvington and the Irvington Historical Society.
He is survived by his daughter, Sarah J. Hoogheem of Lakehurst, N.J. and two grandchildren.
Funeral service will be Friday, Oct. 13 at 11 a.m. at the Haeberle & Barth Colonial Home, 1100 Pine Avenue, corner of Vauxhall Rd., Union, N.J. Interment will take place at a later date at the Hornell Rural Cemetery.

BETTY J. TOLNER
WAYLAND - Betty J. Tolner, 73, of 11432 State Route 15 South, passed away unexpectedly, Wednesday (Oct. 11, 2000) at Highland Hospital in Rochester.
Betty was born Jan. 27, 1927 in Naples, a daughter of Louis and Ida (Schenk) Fox. She married Raymond Tolner on June 14, 1953 in Naples, he survives. Betty was the chef at the Miller House Restaurant in Perkinsville for 11 years, before that she and her husband owned and operated the Blue Goose Restaurant in Wayland for 25 years. Betty has been a member of the National Field Archery Association for many years. Betty was a devoted and loving wife, mother and grandmother. She will be sadly missed by her family and friends.
Betty is survived by her husband of 47 years, Ray; two sons, Dave (Cece) Tolner of Dansville and Dan (Billie) Tolner of Wayland; one grandson, Raymond James Tolner of Wayland; two sisters, Gladys Hoose of Naples and Gerry (Thomas) Ryan of Canandaigua; one brother, Julian (Eva) Fox of Rochester; several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at the Walter E. Baird & Sons Funeral Home, 100 E. Naples St., Wayland. Funeral services will be held at the convenience of the family.

LAWRENCE A. ELWOOD
OCKLAWAHA, FLA. - Lawrence A. Elwood, 80, of Ocklawaha, Fla., died Tuesday (Oct. 10, 2000) at his residence.
Born in Hornell, he moved to Ocklawaha, Fla. 27 years ago. He was employed by Commercial Construction as an Engineering Draftsman. He was a member of the United Methodist Church of Ocklawaha; American Legion Post #284; Life member of VFW Post #4493, Candler, Fla.; Hornell Local #1681; past president of Seneca and Vicinity District Council of Carpenters, United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners of America, a member for 50 years, Graduate of University of New York, and a Veteran of WWII serving in the Army, Prisoner of War.
Surviving are three daughters, Sandy Graham of Ocklawaha, Fla., Dianne Evans of Kent, Wash., and Karen Sukow of Ocala, Fla.; a son, Larry Elwood of Tallahassee, Fla.; nine grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to Hospice of Marion County, P.O. Box 4860, Ocala, Fla. 34478.

DOROTHY SPITULNIK
NEWTOWN, PA. - Dorothy Spitulnik of Newtown, Pa., died Tuesday (Oct. 10, 2000).
She was predeceased by her husband Benjamin.
Surviving are her son and daughter-in-law, Jack and Gail of Rochester; a daughter and son-in-law, Arlene and Barry Jablon of Holland, Pa.; grandchildren, Stacy, Aric (Karleen), Kevin (Trisha), and Jeffrey; a sister, Adele Baldinger of Scranton, Pa.; brothers and sisters-in-law, Lionel and Marian Spencer of Delray Beach, Fla. and David and Emile Spitalnick of Hollywood, Fla.; many nieces and nephews.
Graveside services will be held Friday, Oct. 13 at 1 p.m. in the Temple Beth El Cemetery in Hornell. The family will receive friends on Friday only at 7 Erie Court, Hornell, beginning at 6:30 p.m.
Arrangements have been made by Parsky Funeral Home, Inc. in Rochester. Friends wishing may contribute to Arden Court, 493 Stony Hill Road, Yardley, Pa. 19067 in her memory.
