Vockroth, Elizabeth F. "Betty"
A long time resident of Cedar St. Southport, passed away peacefully Thursday, March 31, 2005 at the Chemung County Nursing Facility where she had been receiving care at the age of 91.
While in the care of the Chemung County Nursing Facility at the age of 91.
Born on June 22, 1913 in Elmira, Betty was the daughter of Harry & Pearl (Heller) Lewis Wilsern. She married Alfred K. "Alfie" Vockroth on August, 27 1934 and was his beloved wife and companion for over 67 years until his passing on April 20, 2002. Together they raised a loving family that survive them daughters, E. Diane Sorino-Wood, Elmira; Helene L. Robeson, Ft. Lauderdale FL.; and Madelyn K. Balok, Southport; a son-in-law, Joseph Balok, six grandchildren, Jacquelyn French, Jennifer L. (Michael) Alvaro, John L. (Teri) Sorino, Russell A. (Karen) Robeson, Randall S. Robeson, Kimberlee Esq. (Michael) Middaugh; sixteen great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren, a nephew, Richard (Betty) Vockroth and a niece, Nancy Graham; along with a community of friends and neighbors. Betty was a longtime member of the First United Church of Christ, a member of the Southport Historical Society, enjoyed traveling with her family and ever faithful to her New York Yankees.
Family and friends will be received at Caywood's Funeral Home & Gardens, 1126, Southport on Sunday, April 3, 2005 between the hours of 1-3 p.m. Funeral services will follow the visitation with the Reverend Rolf Esceske officiating, after which Betty will be cremated at the Northern Bradford Crematory, S. Waverly, PA, and she along with Alfie's ashes will be interred together at Woodlawn Cemetery. All flowers will be provided by the family which request memorial donations directed to the First United Church of Christ or the Southport Historical Society in Betty's memory. Envelopes will be provided at the funeral home.

LEONARD, Leone P. "Lee"
A longtime resident of the Southport community passed away Wednesday morning, March 23, 2005 in her sleep at her family home. The daughter of Arthur & Johanna Griffen Ducey, Leone was born in New Foundland, Canada. She was employed with the Elmira City School District for over 25 years and worked at Broadway, Elmira Free Academy and Southside High Schools in the cafeteria where she came to know many children through out the years. She was a parishioner of St. Mary's Church on Franklin St. Her interest included caring for her family and her home. Surviving are her loving children who cherish her memory, Jamie & Cindy Leonard, Lori & David Rice, Jody Leonard and his fiancée, Megan Herman; two grandchildren, Jolene Dwyer and Emily Ann Leonard, a great grandson, Jaedyn Dwyer; sisters and brothers, Bill & Sandra Ducey, Margaret (Bob Shailor) Mann, Rose (Mike Reiley) Waidner, Pauline Silba, Ambrose (Shirley) Ducey, Gerry & Glenda Ducey; Ann & Frank Williams, many nieces, nephews and loving friends. In addition to her parents, Leone was predeceased by her brother, Michael Ducey. Family and friends will be received at Caywood's Funeral Home & Gardens, 1126 Broadway, Southport on Friday March 25, 2005 between the hours of 5-8 p.m. Funeral serivces will take place at Caywood's Saturday morning at 10 a.m. with her pastor, the Reverend Richard Farrell officiating. Graveside services will follow in St. Peter & Paul's Cemetery, Elmira.

VanDyke, Nola
Formerly of Riverside Ave. Elmira passed away peacefully following an illness on Thursday morning, March 17, 2005 while in the care of the Chemung County Nursing Facility. Born on December 13, 1923 in Whitley City, KY, Nola was the daughter of William & Ttilda Foster Sellers. Through out her life she was employed in various fields of interest working in sales with the Detroit Free Press, selling Real Estate in Michigan, a receptionist for her daughter and son-in-law at Twin Tier Imaging Systems and worked for Office of the Aging. Nola was a proud member of the Professional Business Women's Assoc. and an active member of the Riverside United Methodist Church.
Surviving is her loving family who cherish her memory, a daughter and son-in-law, Tokye & George Skillman, Elmira; grandchildren, Joshua and Andrea Skillman, a brother and sister-in-law, Roy & Anna Sellers, Bahama, NC and her church family. In addition to her parents Nola was predeceased by her husband, Francis Woodrow VanDyke in 1982. Family and friends will be received at Caywood's Funeral Home & Gardens, 1126 Broadway Southport on Sunday afternoon March 20, 2005 between the hours of 1-3 p.m. Funeral services will follow at 3 p.m. with her pastor, the Reverend Donald Hoff officiating. Graveside services will follow in the Nelson Cemetery, Nelson, PA. Memorial donations may be directed to the American Cancer Society, 1318 College Ave. Elmira, NY 14901 in Nola's memoy.

HILDA ROCKS McMANN
Hilda Rocks McMann, 97, died on Monday, March 14 at the residence of her daughter, Nancy (Carmine) Dandrea in Pine City. She was predeceased by her husband of 69 years, John Russell McMann.
Hilda was born in Fabius, New York and spent her life in Upstate, New York. She attended elementary school and high school in Norwich, New York. After graduation, she became a voice student in the College of Fine Arts at Syracuse University and was a member of Sigma Alpha Iota, a national honorary musical sorority. She was active as a soprano soloist for 25 years and held soloist positions in Norwich, Syracuse, Troy and Albany churches.
Hilda was a member of the Albany Monday Musical Club a former Vice President of the Albany Symphony Orchestra and the prime mover of Vanguard, the woman's auxiliary of the Albany Symphony. She was also a Staff-aide of the American Red Cross in Albany for many years, a member of the Woman's Council of the Albany Institute of History and Art, a member of the University Club of Albany and a member of the Literary Study Club of Albany. Hilda was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Albany and had been active as a teacher in the Christian Education Department.
Survivors other than her daughter Nancy and Nancy's husband Carmine are granddaughter Anne (David) Morrell of Palmyra NY and their three children: Bryan, Sarah, Stephen and Jane Distelhurst Galvin of Elmira and her two children, Julie and Johnny. Hilda's family also includes Carmine's children ,son Michael (Barbara) Dandrea of Horseheads, NY and their children: Kyle, Aaron, Blake, James, Andrew and daughter Karen Dandrea of Elmira, NY and her daughter Elizabeth. Hilda also has a sister Joyce Tilyou of Lake Wales, Florida and a niece, Sally (Fred) Miers of Norwich, NY.
Family and friends will be received at Caywood's Funeral Home & Gardens, 1126 Broadway, Southport on Friday, March 18, 2005 between the hours of 3 - 5 p.m. followed by a funeral service at 5 p.m. with the Reverend Cathryn S. Stevenson officiating. Interment will be held at the Albany Rural Cemetery at 11:00 on Saturday, March 19. 2005. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Elmira Community Kitchen of Chemung County, 215 E. Church Street, Elmira, New York 14901 or to the charity of your choice.

Rockwell, Donald L.
A resident of Pine City, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Sunday morning, March 13, 2005 at Strong Memorial Hospital, Rochester at the age of 49 following months of a courageous battle with Hepatitis A.
Surviving are those who cherish his memory and friendship, his children, Karen Rockwell and her friend, Michael Mower, Elmira; Jennifer Rockwell and her friend, Thomas Pushick, Pittsburgh, PA;
Michael Rockwell and Catherine Rockwell both at home in Pine City; along with their mother, Diana Rockwell; Don's parents, the Reverend Donald & Jane Austin Rockwell, Pine City; sisters, Sharon Rockwell, Pine City; Mary & Paul Balmer, Midland, NC; brothers, Thomas & Terri Rockwell, Pine City; Mark & Jill Rockwell, Pine City; nieces and nephews, Jason Balmer, Kellie & Brandon Goyette, Ashley Balmer, Ryan Balmer, Joseph, Kristin, Kaitlin, Jalyn, Torin and Kalie Rockwell; a great nephew, Collin Goyette; a host of aunts, uncles, cousins and a community of friends.
Born on October 28, 1955 in Elmira, Don was the son of Donald D. & Jane M. Austin Rockwell. He was a longtime active member of the Fassett Baptist Church, Fassett, PA. Don was Manager of Product Engineering for M.T. Picture Display Devices, formerly Toshiba, Horseheads, NY. He was very active in Six Sigma Training , a managerial tool used in improving management skills, as a student and teacher. Because of his strong beliefs in higher education he received degrees from Corning Community College, Empire State College, Cornell University, University of Wisconsin and San Diego State University and was currently taking graduate courses at Eastern Michigan University. He was previously employed by Acme Markets, Inc. for 20 years. Don loved traveling the world and his travel goals were to visit all 50 states by age 50, and did so except for Alaska and Hawaii. To visit all 7 continents by age 70 and did so except for Africa, Australia and Antarctica. He had a great interest in photography, geography, family gatherings, camping, playing volleyball, New York City, New York State, the Buffalo Bills and Jim Kelly, the New York Mets and Howard Johnson, Andy Griffith Shows, Zoo's, lighthouses, the Crystal Cathedral in CA where he attended worship services many times.
Family and friends will be received at Caywood's Funeral Home & Gardens, 1126 Broadway, Southport on Wednesday, March 16, 2005 between the hours of 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. and again on Thursday morning from 10-11 a.m. Funeral services will follow at 11 a.m. with the Reverend Dr. Clayton Woodbury and the Reverend A. John Ford co officiating. Graveside committal services will follow in the Rockwell Family plot of Woodlawn Cemetery, Elmira. Memorials may be directed in Don's memory to the Donald L. Rockwell Children's Trust Fund envelopes will be available at the funeral home.

Seymour, Wilson E. "Pete"
A longtime resident of the Southport community passed away peacefully Tuesday morning, March 1, 2005 at St. Joseph's Hospital where he had been receiving care at the age of 87.
Born in Pine Valley, Pete was the son of Edward J. & Louise Comfort Seymour. In early years he was employed by the Dairymen's League in Horseheads. He became well known in our community for his many years employed by the Town of Southport with the Highway Department and his love of children was evident in the many years he was also appointed the Superintendent of Parks & Recreation for the town.
In serving the Lord, Pete was a member of the Millerton Wesleyan Church. His many interests included woodworking, hunting, fishing, camping and farming but most of all his family always came first.
His loving wife and companion of 63 years survives him, Bernice Marie Seymour, Southport; along with their children, Donna & George King, Dundee; Ronald & Lois Seymour, Gillett, PA; Dena & Ward Friends, Millerton, PA; Linda & Butch Serfas, Woodbury, TN; siblings, Betty & Art Kerr, Pine City; and Phillip & Lea Seymour, Big Pond, PA; nine grandchildren, sixteen great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and many cherished family friends. In addition to his parents, Pete was predeceased by his brothers, Willard, Gerald and Wayne Seymour and his sisters, Jeanette Kerr and Delores Criss.
Family and friends will be received at Caywood's Funeral Home & Gardens, 1126 Broadway on Thursday, March 3, 2005 between the hours of 6-8 p.m. and again on Friday from 9-11 a.m. Funeral services will follow the Friday visitation at 11 a.m., his pastor and friend, The Reverend Laurie Greenlaw and his grandson-in-law, the Reverend Jim Schwenk will both officiate. Graveside services will take place at the Seymour family plot of Bradford County Memorial Park, Towanda, PA at 2:45 p.m. Memorials may be directed to the Millerton Wesleyan Church in Pete's memory.

Raines, Harold W.
Of Coryland Rd. Gillett, PA passed away Saturday morning, February 26, 2005 at St. Joseph's Hospital at the age of 83.
Harold was born on August 4, 1921 in Monon, IN. son of Raymond & Finnetta E. Spear Raines. He was employed as an electrician and enjoyed reading. Harold was known on his HAM Radio as W9VOL.
Surviving is his wife of 35 years, Monema Clark Raines, his sons, Brian and Darren Raines, a daughter, Connie Mercier, sister's, Alene Harvey and Lorene Sitterding, grand children and great grandchildren.
Family and friends will be received at Caywood's Funeral Home & Gardens, 1126 Broadway, Southport on Wednesday March 2, 2005 between the hours of 2-4 p.m. Funeral services will follow the visitation at Caywood's at 4 p.m. with the Reverend Kevin Garman officiating. Following services Harold will be cremated at the Northern Bradford Crematory, S. Waverly, PA.

Holland, Gladys I.
Age 93 went to be with the Lord on February 24, 2005 at the Chemung County Nursing Facility.
Gladys was born November 4, 1911 in West Danby, NY, Daughter of the late Lewis and Edna (Jardon) Wixson. In addition to her parents she was predeceased by husband Clinton F. Wood, infant son Eugene C. Wood, husband William H. Hillman and husband David A. Holland. Surviving are daughters, Margaret Eichner of Beaver Dams, NY, Bernice Stickler of Elmira, NY; stepchildren, Richard Hillman, Mary Yale, David Holland and John Holland; many grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews and cousins. Also predeceasing Gladys were her brothers, Carroll, Kenneth and Warren Wixson.
Gladys attended Southside High School. She worked at Remington-Rand and retired from the Elmira Discount Store. She was active in the Elmira Women of the Moose, and enjoyed making crafts and going to senior citizen dances. She was a member of the Bethany Lutheran Church.
Family and friends will be received at Caywood's Funeral Home & Gardens, 1126 Broadway, Southport on Tuesday, March 1, 2005 between the hours of 12 noon - 1p.m. with funeral services will follow at 1p.m. with the Reverend Joseph Cotner officiating. Graveside services will follow in the Gillett Cemetery, Gillett, PA. Those wishing to express sympathy may make donations to Bethany Lutheran Church, Bethany Village Daycare or a charity of ones choice in her memory.

Rarick, Douglas R. Sr.
A resident of the Fassett, PA community passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his loving family on Wednesday morning, February 23, 2005 at the age of 70 following an illness.
Born on January 1, 1935 in Elmira, Doug was the child of Albert & Maude Maguire Rarick. He was well know in the area as a knowledgeable mechanic having been employed for Ritter's in Southport and for over 15 years at Albee Truck in Elmira. In serving his country he joined the United States Navy. Active in his community, Doug was a lifetime member of the South Creek Fire Department where he held many positions including past Asst. Fire Chief and Fire Police Chief. Also he was the former South Creek Asst. Police Chief. A dedicated family man, Doug enjoyed weekend road trips and cherished the many happy memories with those who survive, his wife and companion of 48 years, Shirley Sheets Rarick; Fassett, PA; their children, Douglas Jr. & Millie Rarick, Elmira; Candy & Richard Terry, San Antonio, TX; Dean Rarick, Fassett, PA; Gene & Cathy Rarick, Ridgebury, PA; Jim Rarick, Elmira; three grandchildren, Doug Rarick III, April Terry and Jamie Rarick. In addition to his parents, Doug was predeceased by his daughter, Nancy Rarick.
Family and friends will be received at Caywood's Funeral Home & Gardens, 1126 Broadway, Southport, on Saturday afternoon between the hours of 3-5 p.m. Doug's fellow firemen from the Southcreek Fire Department will gather at 5 p.m. for a firemen's service followed by his funeral with Guthre Hospice Chaplain, Jeff Wilkinson officiating after which Doug will be cremated at the Northern Bradford Crematory and his ashes interred at the Highland Cemetery, Odessa at a later date. Memorials may be directed to Guthre Hospice RR1 Box 154, Towanda, PA 18848 for all of the care and comfort they provided Doug in his final days with us.

Fish, Cora L.
A longtime resident of S. Broadway in Southport passed away very unexpectedly at her home on Sunday evening February 20, 2005 at the age of 80.
Born on August 8, 1923, she was the daughter of Edward and Lydia Woodruff Casselbury. Cora was a devoted wife to her husband, Robert Fish and shared many happy memories in their 55 years of marriage until his passing in 2001. A homemaker, she loved filling her home with her large family, watching her many grandchildren and great grandchildren, camping with her family and many hours playing BINGO.
Surviving are her loving children and their families, Dannie & Constance Fish, Robert R. & Pam Fish, Lester Fish, Julia Fish, Betty Hoyt, Helen Fish, Charles Fish & Linda Bennett; sister's Elizabeth Bowes, Viola Brink, Gertrude Hitchcock, and Rosie Shaffer; a brother and sister-in-law, Francis & Dortheia Casselbury; thirteen grandchildren, eighteen great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, Cora was also predeceased by her son-in-law, Robert Hoyt and several of her siblings.
Family and friends will be received at Caywood's Funeral Home & Gardens, 1126 Broadway, Southport on Wednesday, February 23, 2005 from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Funeral services will follow the visitation at Caywood's at 8 p.m. with the Reverend Horrace Stoddard officiating. Interment will take place at the families' convenience in Forest Lawn Memorial Park where Cora will be interred next to her husband, Robert Fish.

Paganelli, Lillian M.
Resided for most of her life at 1114 Admiral Place on Elmira's Northside and very recently at Elcor Health Services passed away Friday morning, February 18, 2005 at St. Joseph's Hospital where she had been receiving care following an illness.
Lillian was born on September 23, 1919 in Elmira daughter of Anthony & Elizabeth Bridgeman Buckholtz. She was married to Nicholas Paganelli and was his loving wife for over 50 years until his passing. Lillian was employed for Wells Supply, Arnot-Ogden Medical Center and Elmira College as a secretary through out various times in her life. A life long communicant of St. Anthony's Church, she was active in the Sewing Guild and the Scared Heart Society. Lillian enjoyed following the New York Yankees, sewing, crafts and caring for her canine companions.
She was a loving mother to her son and daughter-in-law, Richard "Rick" & Tammy Paganelli, Elmira; a brother, Charles & Ethel Buckholtz, Pine City; a brother-in-law, Donald (Jan) Saunders, Elmira; nieces, Eileen (Don) McCall, Margaret Saunders, Mary Woodhouse and companion, Gary; nephews, Michael (Sharon) Saunders, Donald (Sue) Saunders, Mark Saunders, and Charles Buckholtz; many great nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, Lillian was also predeceased by her sister, Marion Saunders.
Family and friends will be received at Caywood's Funeral Home & Gardens, 1126 Broadway Southport on Tuesday evening, February 22, 2005 from 4-7 p.m. Funeral services will follow the visitation at 7 p.m. with the Reverend Richard Farrell officiating. Interment will take place Wednesday morning at 10 a.m. in Woodlawn National Cemetery and Lillian will be buried with her husband Nicholas. Memorials may be directed to the Chemung County SPCA, St. Rt. 352, Elmira, NY 14903 to honor her memory.

Hanes, Mary Catherine
Formerly of Millerton, PA passed away Tuesday, February 15, 2005 at the Chemung County Nursing Facility where she had been receiving care at the age of 84.
Mary was born on December 8, 1920 in Austin, PA daughter of Lewis and Emma Clinger Fowler. Mary was a homemaker who also was employed with Capabilities helping those in need. She enjoyed caring for her home, her pets and her loving family that survive.
Children, Barbara A. & Hal Sechrist, Charlotte & Walter Badeau, Richard & Deborah Hanes; several grandchildren including, Annette Valicenti, Bernedette & Joseph Rohl, Luella & Brian Korski, Dayna & Jason Telech, Christopher & Heather Badeau, Koreen & Greg Chisolm, Mark & Jan Badeau, Kristin Badeau, Scott Badeau; many great grandchildren. Mary was predeceased by her parents, two brothers and her long time friend and companion, Duane Barrett with who she shared many happy memories.

Campbell, David A.
Local Radio Personality
Passed away very unexpectedly at the Arnot-Ogden Medical Center on Thursday evening February 10, 2005 at the age of 57.
Born here in Elmira on April 7, 1947 Dave was raised and remained in our community through out his life. He became well known for his radio presence which began in 1967 and continued till this present day. He was employed by most of our local radio networks both on the air and behind the scenes he was instrumental in radios growth in New York State. Ever mindful of his community, Dave was always visible at local events, car shows, dinners and fundraisers. In serving the Lord he was a member and very active in the First United Methodist Church of Horseheads where he served in church fellowship. Dave was always willing to offer assistance to the Southport Fire Department as a Traffic Safety Officer. With all of his devotion to his community he always had time for his loving family which survive him.
A daughter, Heather Campbell, her boy friend, Evan Moss and Heather's mother, Pam Nelson Campbell, Horseheads; a son and daughter-in-law, Brett & Tracy Campbell and their children, Emma and Lexis Campbell and Brett's mother, Sylvia Baxter, Savanna, GA; Dave's loving mother, Aurelia Bowen Campbell, Pine City; a sister and brother-in-law, Janet & Carl Bliss, Elmira; aunts, Ellen Bush and Nellie Rose, Elmira Heights; uncle, Edwin (Victoria) Campbell, Auburn; a nephew, Kevin Bliss; several cousins including a special cousin, Glenn & Barbara Campbell and their children Tim and Peter; a community of wonderful friends including Dave's cherished friend, Donald Orton. He was predeceased by his father, Archie Campbell and his best friend, John Savino who he traveled and performed with.
Family and friends will be received at Caywood's Funeral Home & Gardens, 1126 Broadway, Southport on Sunday February 13, 2005 from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Funeral services will follow the visitation at 8p.m. Dave's pastor and friend the Reverend Robert Sherburne will officiate. Interment will take place at the families convenience in Woodlawn Cemetery, Elmira. Memorials may be directed to the Salvation Army which he so proudly served as a bell ringer for many years during the Holidays.

Collins, Ernest E. "Ernie"
A longtime resident of Gillett, PA passed away Monday morning, February 7, 2005 at the Bradford County Manor where he had been residing at the age of 77.
Ernie was born on September 9, 1927 in Frankfurt, KY son of Clay & Elmira Blackwell Collins. He served his country in The United States Army during WWII. Ernie was a loving husband to his wife, Edna Maxine Estep until her passing in 1996. A hard worker, He was the former president of Forest Lawn Memorial Park and was very instrumental in its growth. He enjoyed time spent with his family which survive him, a daughter and son-in-law, Denise & Cliff Lindgren, Gillett, PA; a son and daughter-in-law, Allen & Pam Collins, Elgin, IL; several grandchildren, siblings, nieces and nephews.
Family and friends will be received at Caywood's Funeral Home & Gardens, 1126 Broadway, Southport on Thursday, February 10, 2005 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m.
Funeral services will take place there on Friday morning at 11 a.m. with the Reverend Donald Rockwell officiating. Graveside services will follow at Woodlawn National Cemetery where full military honors will be accorded Mr. Collins and he will be interred there next to his wife Edna.

Residing on Palomino Manor in Southport with her mother, Helen and sister, Naomi passed away peacefully at their home Friday evening, October, 28, 2005 at the age of 77.
Phyllis was born on June 21, 1928 daughter of Arthur & Helen Bennett Rinebold. She was married to William Rutledge who predeceased her in 1984. Phyllis was employed by Bolton Surgical Supply in Poughkeepsie, NY for many years as the Assistant to the President. She is fondly remembered by her family for her sense of humor and her ability in the kitchen as a gourmet chef.
Surviving is her loving family, her mother, Helen Bennett Rinebold, Southport; sisters, Naomi Rinebold, Southport; Betty (Bill) Tillotson, Chemung; Roberta (Bob) Shipmen, Waverly; Jo Ellen Robinson, Lighthouse Point, FL; a sister-in-law, Lillian Rinebold, CT; several nieces and nephews including Roxy Tillotson, Bruce Tillotson, and John Robinson Jr. of whom she was especially close.
Family and friends will meet at the Tioga Point Cemetery, Athens, PA on Monday October 31, 2005 at 11 a.m. for a graveside service officiated by the Reverend William Vallett. The family gratefully declines flowers.

Wilkins, Dorothy Ruth "Grandma Moses"
A loving tribute written by Dorothy's family; Dorothy of Hazel St. Southport was born on September 14, 1920 in Big Flats, NY, was embraced by the arms of Jesus On October 22, 2005 at the age of 85 at the Arnot-Ogden Medical Center with her loving family at her side.
She had been a resident of the Chemung County Nursing Facility for the last 2 1/2 years.
Dorothy was predeceased by her husband, Clayton in 1979 and several brothers and a sister.
She is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, Robert & Kay Wilkins, Lowman; William & Jean Wilkins, Roanoke, VA; daughter and son-in-law, Roxann & Quentin Halm, Elmira; grandchildren and great grandchildren, Tracie & Bill (Shaylee and Steven) Kemp; Rory (Keesha) Wilkins; Josh & Beth Wilkins; Jason & April (Kyle & Rebecca) Halm; Lorie & Fred (Sophie, Clayton & Timmy) Shoup; Lynne & Shawn (Thomas & baby Savanna) Gibson; twin sister Doris Finelli, Corning and several nieces.
Dorothy dedicated her life to helping others, putting their needs above her own. She gave of her self unselfishly, bringing not only joy to herself but those around her. She loved life and the surrounding beauty that God gave to all of us. The simplest pleasure never went unnoticed in Dorothy's life, the flowers of spring, the warmth of sun in summer, the beautiful changes of fall color and winters sparkle on the snow. A quick wit, captivating humor, caring and compassion were Dorothy's unique attributes. She was a special lady in so many lives and the memories of always will always be in our hearts. Her will would be for all of us to take a few moments from our daily lives to touch someone in a special way and leave a heart print on their lives as she has left on ours Dorothy and her family would like to bless the Chemung County Nursing Facility staff for the tender loving care given to Dorothy in her stay on the forth floor, as well as the staff of the Arnot-Ogden Medical Center who comforted Dorothy and her family through her passing. A Memorial Service to Celebrate Dorothy's life will be held at Caywood's Funeral Home & Gardens, 1126 Broadway Southport on Tuesday afternoon October 25, 2005 at 4 p.m. the Reverend David Daniels will officiate the service. Interment will take place in Woodlawn Cemetery.

McCann, Steven D.
A resident of the Pine City community passed away very unexpectedly at the age of 47.
Steve was a loving husband and father who is remembered for the many trips he took with his family, playing Poker with his friends, his love of photography, motorcycle riding and target shooting with his son, Sean, coin, jewelry, and gun collecting and quiet times reading. He was well known in the area having been employed with Pizza Hut Restaurants for many years in many capacities including, District Manager. He most recently was employed at the N. Main St. store.
Born on July 3, 1958, in Elmira, Steve was the son of the late Carl & Paula Muzzio McCann. He married Katherine Elizabeth King on October 6, 1979 and she survives him at their Pine City home along with their children, Tiffany Ann McCann, Horseheads; Elizabeth Ashley & Jason Phillip Husted, Southport; and Sean Paul McCann, at home; his brothers, Richard McCann, Elmira; Keith & Linda Kinsey, Las Vegas, NV; Steve's family on Kathy's side, mother and father-in-law, Paul & Dolores King, Pine City; brothers-in-law, Russell & Debbie King, James & Marcia King all of Davenport, IA and Brian King, Elmira; a sister-in-law, Jessica & Scott Ellison, Rock Stream; several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins. Also surviving are many cherished friends and coworkers, including Steve's friend and colleague, Steve Homerda. Family and friends will be received at Caywood's Funeral Home & Gardens, 1126 Broadway, Southport on Monday, October 24, 2005 between the hours of 4 -7 p.m. Funeral services will follow the visitation Monday evening at 7 p.m. Interment will take place privately at the families convenience in Rural Home Cemetery, Big Flats.

Hunter, John Harvey Jr. "Johnny Utah"
Formerly of Elmira and presently residing in Ogden, Utah passed away very unexpectedly at the age of 37.
Born in Elmira, NY John was the son of John Harvey & Elizabeth J. Miller Hunter. He spent many years in Utah where he resided with his wife, Sue Hunter. His many interest included Fishing, snow skiing, music and time spent with his friends and family who survive and cherish his memory. In addition to his wife Sue, he is also survived by his daughter, Amanda Marie Hunter, Horseheads; his mother, Elizabeth J. Miller Hunter, Elmira; a brother, Lavere (Melissa Webster) Hunter, Horseheads, NY; sisters, Kimberly (Edward) Henry, Sayre, PA; June (Richard) Rice, Erin, NY; nieces and nephews, Stephen Jacob Hunter, Hall, NY; Matthew T. Hunter, Horseheads; Jessica Taylor Rice, Erin; Zachary Ryan Hunter, Hall, NY; and Gavin Quinn Marquis, Erin; along with many aunts and uncles.
John was predeceased by his father, John Hunter and his brother, Laverne John Hunter.
Family and friends will be received at Caywood's Funeral Home & Gardens, 1126 Broadway Southport on Friday October 14, 2005 between the hours of 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Funeral services will follow the visitation at 8 p.m. Burial will take place in Woodlawn Cemetery at his families convenience. Because of his deep love for his daughter, Amanda, his family requests that memorial donations be directed to her education fund c/o Mrs. Elizabeth Hunter, 1055 Hoffman St. Elmira, NY 14905.

Aikman, Mildred A.
A longtime resident of Wygant Rd. Horseheads and most recently of Southport, passed away peacefully in the care of the Chemung County Nursing Facility on Friday afternoon, October 7, 2005 with her family at her side at the age of 89.
Mildred was born on November 9, 1915 in Thurston, NY daughter to Percy H. & Sarah V. Davis Dusenbery. She was married to John Aikman in 1941 and he predeceased her in 1979. Together they provided a loving home to raise their five children, Cola Thayer, Southport; Adell Gruslin, N. Attleboro, MA; John & Chris Aikman, Breesport; Percy & Karen Aikman, Southport; Ted & Dawn Aikman, Breesport; nine grandchildren, Brian (Stacy) Thayer, Jason Thayer, Andrea (Eric) Klanderman, Alissa (Frank) Vera, John W. Aikman, Justin Aikman, Cassandra Aikman, Jason Alexander, Derrick (fiancée, Lindsay) Alexander; nephews, Bill and Jack Wylie; a brother-in-law, William "Bud" Wylie, Horseheads. In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by her sister, Grace Wylie and her son-in-law, Dennis Thayer.
Mildred is remembered for enjoying a simple life filled with love for her family, her home, gardening, and crocheting.
Family and friends will be received at Caywood's Funeral Home & Gardens, 1126 Broadway, Southport on Monday evening, October 10, 2995 between the hours of 5-8 p.m. Funeral services will follow the visitation at 8 p.m. with the Reverend Robert Adkins officiating, Graveside services will take place at the families convenience in Forest Lawn Memorial Park where she will be interred next to her husband John. Memorials may be directed to the charity of ones choice or by simply showing an act of kindness to a neighbor or friend in her memory.

Hartman, Kathleen T.
Of Southport passed away peacefully at her Caton Ave. home on Friday Afternoon, September 23, 2005.
Kathleen was born in Pottsville, PA daughter of Joseph & Elizabeth Nolan O'Connell. She was a loving wife and companion for over 48 years to William Hartman. An accomplished artist, her home is filled with her own paintings. She sang and danced in musicals in earlier years; but found her greatest enjoyment spending time with her husband, William Hartman at their home. Also surviving is her best friend and longtime companion and caregiver, Rose Force and her husband Paul; a caring friend, Virginia Costello; her hairdresser, Joseph Arbach along with several nieces, nephews great nieces and great nephews. Kathleen was predeceased by two sisters and a brother. Following a private visitation, Kathleen will be cremated at the Northern Bradford Crematory and her ashes will be interred in the Woodlawn National Columbium upon its completion. In lieu of flowers or memorials her family requests that you show an act of kindness to someone in her memory. A special thank you to the Chemung County Health Department Staff and Dr. William Armstrong for supporting our family and giving Kathleen so much care in comfort in her final years with us. Bennett, Helen
A long time resident of the Southport community was reunited with her beloved Richard following a courageous battle with cancer on Thursday, January 13, 2005 peacefully in their home.
Helen was a Private Duty Nurse and cared for many area families during an illness or through their elderly years. Some of her patients she served for many years. In later years she brought comfort to countless families in her service to Caywood's. She made families feel at home and assured each one their needs would be cared for, and did it with the outmost grace, style and class.
Helen's many interest included dinning out at her favorite local restaurants, walking countless miles in her community, making sure her friends never did with out, and spending time with the love of her life, Richard Bennett until his passing in 1994.
Helen is survived be a community of close friends who cherished having her in our lives. We love you Helen and will never forget the imprint you have left on our hearts.

Swetland, M. Gladys
A lifelong resident of the Mills, PA community, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday December 14, 2005 at Charles Cole Memorial Hospital in Coudersport, PA at the age of 113. Gladys was born in Mills, PA on April 18,1892 to Chester Allen & Kate Doud Swetland. Gladys taught school until she retired at the age of 78. And was very well known throughout Potter County as the matriarch of the Valley where she resided living through 3 centuries. She was the subject of many articles and interviews about her long and full life. She always possessed a sound mind and remarkable agility and drove her automobile well passed her 100th birthday. Entertaining guest and family at her home where she would often play her grand piano or melodeon, filling her home with laughter, music, and memories. She leaves behind a community of caring friends, family members which live around the country and world and countless people who were molded by her high ethics as a teacher and her church family at Mills. She loved the outdoors, caring for her wild birds and her feline companions. Her wit and sense of humor remained with her all of her life. Family and friends will be received at the Mills Union Church, Mills, PA on Saturday December 17, 2005 between 12 noon-1 p.m. Funeral services will follow the visitation at 1 p.m. with the Reverend Dr. Sandra Foster officiating. Gladys will be interred in the Mills Cemetery. Memorial Donations may be directed to the Mills Union Church, Mills PA in her memory.
