James David Hodson, Jr.
James David Hodson, Jr., 52, of Houston, passed away Wednesday, February 13, 2002. David was born in Houston, Texas, December 29, 1949, to James David Sr. and Florence Joyce Hodson.
Preceded in death by his parents, David is lovingly survived by his son, Zachary Roy Hodson of Houston; daughter Jaclyn Janette Hodson of Humble; special friend & long time companion, Judy Mullins of Pasadena; brother & sister-in-law William L. & Diana Hodson of Channelview; sisters & brothers-in-law, Cheryl & Jay Railey of Mt. Belvieu; Kathy & Randy Walters of Dayton; brothers-in-law, David Mitchell & his wife, Nancy of Baytown, Texas & John Creel & his wife, Pam of Channelview; grandmother, Esther Smith Skinner of LaPorte; grandchildren, Anika Hodson, & Lasandra Bogany, as well as other relatives and friends.
Services were held February 16, 2002 at Carter Funeral Home Chapel, with Reverend Roger Towe of the Deer Park Church of God officiating. David was laid to rest in Forest Park Lawndale Cemetery.

Byron James Simon
Byron James Simon, 41, of Houston, died Tuesday, February 13, 2002. Byron was born August 3, 1960 in Vicksburg, Germany to Jack and Erica Simon. Byron is survived by his wife and companion of 15 years, Carla Williamson of Houston; son, Douglas Cunningham of Alabama; daughters, Stacy Williamson of Houston; Lisa Farrell of Mexicol; Christine Simon of Indiana; Valerie Simon of Houston; Maricela Hurley of Houston; brother, Michael Simon of Houston; sisters, Jeanette mondragon of Indiana; Christa Coleman and Jackie Elder both of California; as well as grandchildren, Briana Aranda, Jose Aranda, Melinda Aranda, Yvette Aranda, Jeremiah Farrell and Veronica Farrell; and a number of other nieces, nephews and friends.
Services were held Friday, February 15, 2002 at graveside in San Jacinto Memorial Park with Rev. Wayne Moss officiating.

Glenn A. Harshman
Glenn A. Harshman, 66, of Houston, Texas died February 12, 2002 following a long illness. Glenn was born May 25, 1935 in Connellsville, Pennsylvania to Alva & Eva Harshman. He was an engineer and had worked for Anchor Glass in Houston, Texas for 42 years. He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Mrs. Zona Harshman of Houston; daughter Kelly Peifer-Harshman of Houston; son, Roger Harshman of Jacksonville, Florida; sisters, Betty Beattie of Carmichaels, Pennsylvania and Jean Collins of Mansfield, Ohio; and one granddaughter, Megan Stewart. Memorial services were held Saturday, February 16, 2002 at Carter Funeral Home. Family suggests in lieu of usual remembrances, donations be made to a local chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association in memory of Glenn.

Joseph Emile DeLaval
Joseph Emile DeLaval, 73, of Houston, died February 11, 2002 in a local hospital. Joseph was born June 8, 1928 in Christopher, Illinois to Lwon & Liberty DeLaval. He served in the U.S. Navy during WWII and retired from Air Products and Chemicals, in Pasadena. Joseph was preceded in death by his parents, as well as daughter DeRhonda Kay and his beloved wife Nona. He is survived by son & daughter-in-law, Danny and Jan DeLaval of Houston; and 8 grandchildren, Joseph DeLaval, Candice & Jerry Hughes, Brandon, Danielle and Lulu DeLaval. One great-granddaughter, Angela Maglitto, as well as two brothers, Edgar and Leon DeLaval.
No local services will be held, but burial will be in Harrison Cemetery, in Christopher, Illinois. The family would request in lieu of flowers that donations be made either to the Texas Heart Institute or the American Cancer Society in memory of Joseph & Nona DeLaval.

Joyce Marie Broussard
Joyce Marie Broussard, 66, of Houston, passed away February 6, 2002. Joyce was born in Crockett, Texas, December 1, 1934, the daughter of Howard and Ethel Atkinson.
Joyce is lovingly survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Billy Wayne and Carolyn Umfrid, of Houston, Texas; daughter and son-in-law, Teri and Wendel Bierbaum, of Canyon Lake, Texas; mother, Ethel Parker of Houston, Texas; brother, Roy Atkinson of Houston, Texas; sisters, Jane Collins of Houston, Texas; Norma Anderson of Warren, Texas; Barbara Smith of Houston, Texas; grandchildren Larry Wayne Umfrid, Teresa Umfrid, Lacey Bierbaum, Dutch Bierbaum, great-grandchildren Natalie Smith and Brooke Herron, as well as nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Visitation was held at Carter Funeral Home, Thursday, February 7, 2002.

Jesse "Bandido Injun" Deal
Jesse "Bandido Injun" Deal, 68, of Houston, died February 5, 2002 from injuries he received in an auto-pedestrian accident in Temple, Texas. He was preceded in death by his daughter Terry. He is survived by two sons, Michael and Elmere, as well as one nephew, Billy Deal and members of the Bandido Motorcycle Club. Jesse served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict in the Paratrooper Division. Injun Jesse was the last of the original founders of the club that originated in 1966. He was involved with the clubup until the last day of his life. A member of the Nomad Chapter and active with the West Houston Bandido Chapter. Jesse played a large role in starting Bandido Chapters in Texas and across the United States, as well as in Europe, France, Australia and Canada.
Memorial Services were held Saturday, February 16, 2002 at Carter Funeral Chapel followed by a celebration of Injun’s life at Love’s Marina.
Injun Jesse will be missed by his family and all of his Bandido brothers world wide, as well as the people who were fortunate to have met him. The last of the original members is gone to be with his family and fallen Bandido Brothers. Injun Jesse’s legacy will be carried on and he will never be forgotten. Rest in Peace Brother.

Beatrice Turner Hamner
Beatrice Turner Hamner, 70, of Houston, passed away Tuesday, March 26, 2002. Beatrice was born October 28, 1931 to Carl G. & Hester J. Turner in Ada, Oklahoma. Mrs. Hamner was a member of Emanuel Congregational Methodist Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents, as well as sister, Virginia King; son, Donald Hamner; and grandson Paul Schatte, Jr. Beatrice is lovingly survived by her husband of 52 years, Billy Wayne Hamner of Houston; son & daughter-in-law, Billy Don & Pam Hamner of Houston; daughters & sons-in-law, Judy & Terry Loomis of Houston; and Linda & Paul Schatte of Dayton; brothers & sisters, Leonard & Lawrence Turner of Houston; Ruby Martin of Athens; Jess Turner of Houston; Gene Turner of Porter and June Blackerby of Huffman; grandchildren, Felisha & Donnie Scott; Crystal Schatte, Donald & Stacie Prather; Sarah Loomis, Lisa Hamner; Daniel Hamner; James Hamner; Brian & Amanda Pike; Tamara Pike-Prewitt; great-grandchildren, Megan Prather, Ryan Prather, Paige Scott and Kassidy Scott.
Services were held March 29, 2002 at Carter Funeral Chapel with Rev. John Lemoine officiating. Mrs. Hamner was laid to rest in San Jacinto Memorial Park.

Bobby Ray Walker
Bobby Ray Walker, Sr., 57, of Houston, died Monday, March 25, 2002. Bobby was born June 17, 1944 in Lake Providence, Louisiana, the son of James Lee & Dolly Walker. He served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War.
He was preceded in death by his father, James Lee Walker and is survived by his sons, Bobby R. Walker, Jr. of Channelview; Anthony R. Walker of Houston; Randy & Sandy Walker also of Houston; mother, Dolly Shelton of West Monroe, Louisiana; brothers, John Walker of Houston; Charles Walker of Cameron, Louisiana; Jerry Walker of West Monroe, Louisiana; William Walker of Vicksburg, Mississippi; sisters, Louise Buffington of Baytown; Geraldine Harbin of Kermit, Texas; Lucille Conivich of New Orleans, LA; Barbara Randall of Houston; Linda Faye White of North Carolina and Madeline Arsement of Lake Charles, Louisiana; as well as by his four grandchildren.
Graveside services were held Friday, March 29, 2002 at Houston National Cemetery under the auspices of the District 4 V.F.W. Memorial Team.

Albert Dwight Woodward
Albert Dwight Woodward, 85, of Channelview, passed away Monday March 25, 2002. Mr. Woodward was born August 31, 1916 in Grand Island, Nebraska to George Frank and Minnie May Woodward. Albert was a carpenter by trade and a long time member and past president of the Fraternal Order of Eagles, Aerie # 3098.
He was preceded in death by his wife Maxine Woodward and by a daughter, Sandra Rambo. He is lovingly survived by his son & daughter-in-law Dwight & Ann Woodward of Channelview; brother, Bob Woodward of California; sisters, Ethel Savereign of Nebraska; Ruby Tipton of South Dakota; and by his 6 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren.
Chapel services were held Thursday, March 28 at Carter Funeral Home with Rev. Andy Plunk of Bandera Street Baptist officiating. Pallbearers were Mel Londene, Billy Stidham, David Moser, Keith Kourville, Lee Woodward and Lyle Woodward. Mr. Woodward was laid to rest in San Jacinto Memorial Park.

Glinda Faye Woods
Glinda Faye Woods, 58, of Houston went to be with her Lord March 23, 2002 after a long illness. Glinda was born September 15, 1943 in Panama City, Florida. She is survived by her daughter, Pennie "Susie" Lariviere of Deer Park, Texas; Grandchildren, Lauren Lariviere, Emily Lariviere and Collin Lariviere all of Deer Park; mother, Pennie Langley of Houston; sister, Linda Tinelli also of Houston.
A memorial service was held Wednesday, March 27, 2002 at Christ Lutheran Church with Rev. Todd Dittloff officiating.

Elmer Lee Russell
Elmer Lee Russell, 82, of Houston, died March 20,2002. He was born November 16, 1919 in Holdenville, Oklahoma to Larkin & Eva Russell. He retired from Brown & Root after 18 years.
He was preceded in death by his parents, tow brothers and one daughter, Alice Kotulek in 1991. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Ruby Russell of Houston; grandson, Alan Williamson of Houston; sisters, Edna Ables of Eldorado, Arkansas; and Pauline Cofer of Holdenville, Oklahoma; brothers, Leon Farris of Holdenville, Oklahoma; Fred Russell of Allen, Oklahoma; and Billy Russell of Livingston, Texas.
Services were held at graveside Saturday, March 23, 2002 in S.P.J.S.T. Cemetery in Crosby, Texas with Rev. Kenneth Plunk of Bandera Street Baptist officiating.

William Lawrence "Bill" McCarley
William Lawrence "Bill" McCarley, 93, of Houston, died March 19, 2002. "Big Bill" as he was known to many, was born November 12, 1908 in Townville, South Carolina to Luther & Mattie McCarley. He had made his home in Houston since 1929. He was a lifetime member of the Houston Livestock Show & Rodeo actively serving as Vice-Chairman and Committeeman on numerous committees from 1958 to 1995. He had retired from Shell Refinery in Deer Park after 31 years. He was a Reserve Deputy with the Harris County Sheriff's Department and was a member of the elite Harris County Mounted Posse.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 66 years, Bessie Mae McCarley in 1997 and by his son, Charles Ralph "Roscoe" McCarley and grandson Graham McCarley Odom. He is survived by his daughter, Patricia McCarley Ross of Wimberley, Texas; granddaughters, Vicky Lynn Allen of Montgomery; and Latricia Uselton of Kingwood; great-granddaughters, Sherry Melinda Wilkinson of Galena Park; and Lawren Uselton of Kingwood; great-great-grandchildren, Chelsea Lynn Sims and MacKenzie Ann Wilkinson; nephew, Bill N. Howard and nieces, Julie Howard Rutherford of Lake McQueeney and Charlotte Howard Fade of Houston.
Services were held March 21, 2002 at Graveside in Resthaven Memorial Gardens in Houston.

Phillip Steve Durdin
Phillip Steve Durdin, 51, of Houston, died March 15, 2002. Mr. Durdin was born November 17, 1950 in Baytown, Texas to Ocie Bailey and Bonnie Hazel Durdin. He was preceded in death by parents as well as one brother Jerry O. Durdin in 2001.
He was survived by his wife of 11 years, Cynthia Faye Durdin of Houston; son, Matt Durdin of Houston; daughters, Tammy Sue Hagan of Alabama; Christina Durdin of Pasadena; and step-daughter, Hannah Marie Judson of Dallas; brothers, Randel Jay Durdin & wife Gail of Huffman, Texas and Alvin Glenn Durdin of Odessa, Texas; as well as grandchildren, Dakota Hagan, Winter Hagan and Zachary Hagan.
A private graveside services was conducted March 18, 2001 in Huffman Cemetery.

Rachel Inez Mitchell
Rachel Inez Mitchell, 68, of Houston died March 15, 2002. She was born September 30, 1933 in Scottsboro, Alabama to James Leroy and Estelle Ruth Knight. She was preceded in death by brother, Richard and sister Barbara Jean.
Rachel is survived by one son, James Roscoe Simmons of Manville, Texas; daughters, Elinor Ruth Fitzpatrick of Houston; Kathrine Charlene Jones of Fairfield, Texas; and Rebecca Darlene Quinton of Grapeland, Texas; as well as 6 grandchildren, and 8 great-grandchildren; brothers and sisters, Jessie, Jerry, John Robert, Jimmy, Hazel, Margaret, Carol and Judy.
Services were conducted Monday, March 18, 2002 at Carter Funeral Home with Pastor Cecil Hudson officiating.

Everitt Black, Sr.
Everitt Black, Sr., 56, of Channelview, died March 9, 2002. Mr. Black was born September 19, 1945 in League City, Texas to Lloyd & Irene Black. Mr. Black is survived by his wife of two years Barbara Ann Black also of Channelview. Private services will be held at a later date.

Terresa Kaye Rogers
Terresa Kaye Rogers, 50, of Houston, passed away March 5, 2002. Terresa was born March 17, 1951 in Union, South Carolina to Walter and Ferol Mae Littlejohn. She was preceded in dath by her husband, Carl Rogers and her parents. Terresa is survived by her son, Joseph Morrison of Houston; daughter, Ashley Rogers of Houston; brother, Charles Ray Platt of California; sisters, Sehrry Platt Kroessler of California; Julia Alpf of New Jersey; Charlene Rogers of Houston; and step-father, Douglas Joe Scott of Houston; as well as by grandchildren, Lance Morrison and Ryan Morrison, numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. A celebration of Terresa's life will be held at a later date.

Irene Sheffield Bratton
Irene Sheffield Bratton, 45, of Houston, died Sunday, March 3, 2002. Irene was born October 26, 1956 in Globe, Arizona to Abner & Betty Sheffield. She is survived by sons, Curtis Lee Norvell, Chacho Gonzales, & Joe Sheffield all of Houston; daughter, Shannon Smith of Houston; sisters, Betty Smith of Houston and Brenda Irwin of San Antonio, Texas; brothers, Wesley Sheffield of Channelview; Eddie Sheffield of Houston and Joe Nichols also of Houston; as well as six grand children.
A memorial service to celebrate Irene's life conducted Friday, March 8, 2002 and Carter Funeral Chapel with Rev. Jerry Hovater of Crosby Church officiating. Arrangements by Carter Funeral Home.

John Franklin Horton
John Franklin Horton joined our Father in Heaven on Thursday, April 25, 2002 in Houston, Texas. He was born September 12, 1931 in Rockdale, Texas to the late Dolph D., Sr. and Blanche Franklin Horton. He was a barber for 50 years in the family business in Galena Park, Texas and more recently in the North Shore area. For over 40 years he was a member of the Lions Club International. He served in the 36th Division of the Texas National Guard. In his retirement he enjoyed woodworking.
He is survived by his longing wife of 44 years, Kathrene Horton; daughter Johnene Horton, daughter & son-in-law, Kathlene & Steve Reeves and the light of his life granddaughter, Brittney Nichole White. He is also survived by sister Donna Shuptrine & family; brother Russell Horton & family; the family of deceased brother D.D. Horton, Jr. and a number of cousins, other relatives and a host of friends.
Services were 10:00 a.m. Saturday, April 27, at Holy Trinity Methodist Church in Houston with graveside services to follow at 4:00 p.m. in Antioch Cemetery in Center, Texas. Both services were conducted by his brother-in-law, Rev. Richard L. Hume.
He was a wonderful husband, father, friend, family man and volunteer who will be dearly missed by all whose lives were touched by his.

Joe Walter Harris
Joe Walter Harris, 78, of Houston, died April 24, 2002 after a long illness. Mr. Harris was born March 6, 1924 in Weir, Mississippi to Morris D. & Mary Lou Harris. He was a former member of the Teamsters Local #988 for 36 years.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Frances Sullivan Harris of Houston; by daughter Fran Harris of Houston; brother Willie Harris of Tupelo, Mississippi and sister Ruth Vanlandingham also of Mississippi. Graveside services were held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, April 27, 2002 in Floral Hill Memorial Gardens in Pearl, Mississippi.
