Sylvia Foglia Gibbs, 89, of 188 Culvert St Torrington
died Thursday June 3 at Cherry Brook Health Care in Canton. She was the wife of the late Forest Gibbs. Born in Torrington Dec. 18, 1914, she was a life long Torrington resident.
She was an RN, working at several area hospitals including Charlotte Hungerford, as well as Private Duty.
She is survived by her son Robert Gibbs of Simsbury and a daughter Patricia Gibbs of Dayton OH, and grandchildren Jennifer, James, and Dylan Gibbs. She was predeceased by a brother Charles Foglia.
Funeral Services will be held on Saturday June 5 at 10:30 at Phalen Funeral Home 285 Migeon Ave Torrington. Burial will follow at New Saint Francis Cemetery. Friends may call a the funeral home prior to the service on Saturday from 9:30 -10:30.

Elizabeth "Betty" (LaPorte) Giampaolo, 76, formerly of Cedar Lane in New Hartford
died Monday May 31 at Valerie Manor. She was the wife of the late Charles "Sonny" Giampaolo. Born in Soutington Feb. 23, 1928 she was daughter of the late Daniel and Julia LaPorte.
Prior to her contracting Guillian Barre Syndrome in 1977, she worked as a hairdresser at House of Charms in Washington Depot. She was a devoted volunteer at Valerie Manor delivering mail and good cheer to residents and staff.
She is survived by her three sons and daughters in law, Charles J. and Sandra Giampaolo, Jaye J and Debbie Giampaolo, and James T. and Janet Giampaolo of Torrington and six grandchildren, Justin, CJ, Jennifer, Nicholas, Jamie, and Julia. She also leaves a brother Joseph LaPorte of Southington. She was predeceased by a sister Lucille LaPorte.
Funeral Services will be held on Friday June 4 at 10 AM from Phalen Funeral Home 285 Migeon Ave. Torrington to Saint Peter's Church for a Mass at 10:30. Burial will follow at Hillside Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Thursday from 5:00 to 8:00 PM.

Nellie Mazzochi, 85, of 699 South Main St Torrington
died Wednesday May 26 at John Dempsey Hospital in Farmington. Born in Torrington Oct 26, 1918 daughter of the late Ernest and Frances (Bongiorno) Mazzochi, she was a life long Torrington resident and a Communicant of Saint Peter's Church.
She was a waitress at several area restaurants, including the former Wesley Inn in Thomaston.
She leaves several cousins. She was predeceased by her sister, Mary Mazzochi.
A funeral Mass will be held on Tuesday June 1 at 9 AM at Saint Peter's Church. Burial will follow at New Saint Francis Cemetery. Anna M. Sutherland VanBuren, 81, of Torrington
died peacefully Thursday March 10 at her home surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Glasgow Scotland Aug 26, 1923 daughter of the late William and Catherine Sutherland. She was a long time Torrington resident. Until her illness she could always be counted on by her many friends and family for whatever assistance was needed. She will be greatly missed by all those who knew her.
She is survived by three sons, Robert VanBuren of Wells Vermont, William VanBuren and his wife Jody and David VanBuren and his wife Ireni of Torrington and two sisters Rose Conway of Edinburgh Scotland and Margaret Welsh of Great Grantham England, 9 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren. She was predeceased by a son Dennis, a sister Lily, and a brother Gordon.
A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday April 2 at 11 AM at The Bakerville United Methodist Church. Memorial Contributions can be made to VNS Hospice Program 62 Commercial Blvd. Torrington CT 06790.

Susan Linda Karlowicz, 54, of 410 Winthrop St Torrington
died Friday March 11 at Charlotte Hungerford Hospital. She was the wife of Edward J. Karlowicz. Born in Torrington Sept. 11, 1950 daughter of the late Martin and Mary (Lauf) Hudak, she attended Torrington schools and was a graduate of Torrington High Class of 1968.
She was employed by The Litchfield VNA.
In addition to her husband, he leaves a daughter Kathryn Hope Karlowicz of Torrington and her father and mother in law, Aldo and Irma Bergonzi of Torrington.
A Memorial Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday March 15 at Sacred Heart Church at 10:30.

Lorraine Gray Wald, 74, of Torrington
died Wednesday March 9, 2005 at Charlotte Hungerford Hospital. Born in Torrington Aug. 12, 1930 she was the daughter of the late Herbert H. and Alice (Cattey) Gray, and was a life long Torrington resident.
She is survived by her son and daughter in law, Wyatt K. and Nanette L. (Sclafani) Wald of Torrington and two grandsons, Kyle A. Wald and his fiancee Kristen Daigle and Klayton A. Wald, and a great grandson Kyler M. Wald.
She is also survived by her sister Celena Lalli and her companion Stanley Mickus, a niece Michelle Lalli and great niece and nephew Kayla and Garrett Gomez.
Private Services and burial are at the convenience of the family. There are no calling hours.

Shirley (Spiess) Brighenti, 70, of 147 Torringford East St. Torrington
died Sunday April 9 at Charlotte Hungerford Hospital. She was the husband of 46 years Anthony Brighenti. Born in Thomaston Sept 9, 1935 daughter of the late Raymond J and Catherine (Sweeney) Spiess, she was employed by The Torrington Company until her retirement in 1997. She was a member of the Sullivan Senior Center and a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother.
In addition to her husband, she leaves her daughter Gayle Hislop and her companion Jeffrey Michna and granddaughters Megan and Jennifer Hislop of Torrington and a brother Robert Spiess and sisters Joan Pagano, Bertha Spiess, and Jeannette Kulinski, all of Torrington. She was predeceased by her son, Michael Brighenti and a brother Raymond Spiess Jr.
A Funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday April 12 at 9:00 AM at Saint Francis Church. Burial will follow at Saint Peter Cemetery. Friends may call at The Phalen Funeral Home 285 Migeon Ave. Torrington on Wednesday prior t the Mass from 7:15 to 8:30 AM.

Gioconda "Gina" V. Berti DeMichiel Kovalaski, of Torrington,
Passed away Friday April 7 2006 surrounded by her family. She was the wife of 26 years of the late Julius F. Kovalaski who died November 17, 2005.
Born March 4, 1931 daughter of the late Vittorio and Rosa (Tosoni) Berti, she was a graduate of Torrington High School Class of 1950, and Saint Francis School of Nursing, Class of 1953. She was a Registered Nurse at Charlotte Hungerford Hospital until her retirement in 1979. She was also a resident summer camp nurse at Housatonic Scout Reservation in 1973. Her commitment and dedication to the nursing profession were respected by her many colleagues and patients. She was Past Presidnet of the Torrington Registered Nurses Club, past president of the Harwinton VFW Auxiliary, past president of The Purple Heart Auxiliary, and was a director at Brooker Memorial. She was a member of the Litchfield Hills Doll Club and Litchfield American Legion Auxiliary. She was also a Girl Scout Leader for Troop 1 at Saint Peter's School.
After her retirement she traveled to Italy, Bermuda, Canada, Hawaii, and other states. She helped raise her two granddaughters so that her daughter could continue to pursue her teaching career. Spending time with her family and friends brought much joy to her. Her compassion and strength were an inspiration to all who knew her. She cared for animals and enjoyed the companionship of her many pets. She was also an avid collector of country antiques, dolls, and postcards.
She is survived by her daughter, Professor Valerie R. DeMichiel Royals and her son in law Glenn Royals, her son David A. DeMichiel, and two granddaughters, Victoria Valerie Royals and Natalie Marie Royals, all of Torrington, a brother Raymond J. Berti of Avon, and nephew Michael Berti of Seymour. She was predeceased by a niece, Diane M. Berti.
Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday April 11 at 9:00 AM at Saint Mary's Church. Burial will follow at New Saint Francis Cemetery. There are no calling hours. Phalen Funeral Home has care of arrangements.

Carl O. Tucker, 75, of 819 Mountain Rd Torrington
died Wednesday April 5 at Charlotte Hungerford Hospital. He was the husband of Marilyn (Zavatkay) Tucker. Born in Torrington Dec. 6, 1930 son of the late Carl L. and Margaret (McCann) Tucker, he served in the US Navy.
He was employed as a truck driver for O& G in Torrington before his retirement.
He was a member of Torrington Lodge of Elks.
In addition to his wife, he leaves two sons, Gregory Tucker of Torrington and James Tucker and his wife Deborah of Winchester, and grandchildren Allen, Corey, Tyler, and Caitlin Tucker. He also leaves his brother Richard Tucker and sisters Dolores Trapp and Arlene Bosio, all of Torrington. He was predeceased by a son Carl D. Tucker and grandson Justin Tucker and two brothers, Robert and Harry Tucker and two sisters, Dorothy Curry and Margaret Mierzwinski.
Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday April 11 at 10:30 AM at Saint Francis Church. Burial will follow at Saint Peter Cemetery. Friends may call at The Phalen Funeral Home 285 Migeon Ave. Torrington on Monday from 5:00 to 8:00 PM and Tuesday from 9:00 to 10:00 AM.

John A. Cellerino, 90, of 302 Harwinton Ave. Torrington
died Wednesday April 7, 2004 at Litchfield Woods. He was the husband of Dorothy (Burr) Cellerino. Born in Asti, Italy Feb. 12, 1914, he was the son of the late Margarino and Maria (Oneglia) Cellerino. He served in The US Army during WWII. He was a long time employee of O & G Industries in Torrington and retired as a foreman.
He was a former member of The Piemontese Society and was a member of The Sullivan Senior Center. He was an avid Formula One Racing fan and enjoyed gardening and playing pinochle.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, Wayne A. Dube of Bristol and Bruce B. Dube of Salt Lake City UT, a granddaughter Colleen Dube-Joye of Dublin Ireland and a great granddaughter, Emily S. Joye.
A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday at 10:30 at The Phalen Funeral Home 285 Migeon Ave. Torrington. Burial will be at the convenience of the family at Hillside Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Saturday from 9 to 10:30 AM.

James McNulty, 72, of 62 Eastwood Rd Torrington
died Sunday April 4, 2004 at Charlotte Hungerford Hospital. Born in Torrington June 30, 1931 son of the late Philip and Mae (Bentz) McNulty, he was a Army Veteran of The Korean War.
He was a retired Vice President of The Hartford National Bank, later known as Fleet Bank in Torrington.
He is survived by a brother Robert McNulty and his wife Val of Torrington a nephew Gary McNulty, and two nieces, Sharon McNulty and Maureen Bianchi and her husband Anthony.
Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday April 7 at 9 AM at The Phalen Funeral Home 285 Migeon Ave. Torrington. Burial will follow at Old St. Francis Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home prior to the service from 8-9 AM.

Lucien Cattey Jr., 81, of 308 Campville Rd, Northfield,
died Thursday April 1, 2004 at UCONN Medical Center after a brief illness.
He was born in Torrington August 26, 1922 son of the late Lucien H. and Mary (Dean) Cattey.
He was a Veteran of The US Army serving in WWII in the 7th Infantry in Casablanca, Naples, Rome and Central Europe. He was held as a POW for 18 months in Germany at Stalag 7a until being liberated at the end of the War. He received the European African Middle Eastern Service Ribbon, the American Theater Service Ribbon, The Good conduct Medal, and The World War II Victory Medal. He later worked as a Metallurgist at Plumb & Atwood in Thomaston until his retirement in 1986.
He was an active member of The Thomaston American Legion, Thomaston Fish and Game club, and The Harwinton Rod and Gun Club.
He is survived by two sisters, Shirley Naylor and Beatrice Neri of Northfield and nephews Kenneth and Lucien, and a niece Tammy and a great nephew Justin.
Funeral Services will be held on Monday at 10 Am from Phalen Funeral Home to Saint Francis Church for A Mass at 10:30. Burial will be at Hillside Cemetery. Friends may call at the Phalen Funeral Home on Sunday from 4 to 6 PM.
Memorial contributions can be made to The Northfield volunteer Fire Dept or The Litchfield Ambulance Corps.

Carmine Muschell, 93, formerly of Eastwood Rd Torrington
died Wednesday March 9 at Litchfield Woods. He was the husband of the late Eileen (Scanlon) Muschell. Born in Torrington Jan. 27, 1912 son of the late Michale and Anna (DiLuisi) Muscilo, he was retired after 24 years from the Torrington Register.
He was a member of The Torrington Elks Lodge and Unico club.
He is survived by his son, Richard Muschell and his wife Naydine of San Francisco, and a daughter Peggy Jackson and her husband Paul of Walnut Creek CA. He also leaves a sister Romilda Galgano of Torrington.
Funeral Services will be held on Saturday March 12 at 10:00 AM at The Phalen Funeral Home 285 Migeon Ave. Torrington. Burial will follow at New Saint Francis Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home prior to the service from 9:00 to 10:00 AM.

Edward J. Pukas, 82, of 33 Hill St. Torrington
died Wednesday March 9 at Charlotte Hungerford hospital. He was the beloved husband of 59 years of Dorothy (Kozlak) Pukas. Born in Torrington March 29, 1922 son of the late George and Mary (Couch) Pukas, he was employed by Hendey Machine Co. prior to enlisting after Pearl Harbor Day.
He served in The Army Air Corps as a Staff Sergeant in the 65th Bombardment Squadron 43rd Bombardment Group,5th Air Force,Pacific Theater of operations He participated in the air offensive campaigns of Japan, China, New Guinea, Southern Philippines, Luzon, and Ryukus. His awards and decorations included the American Theater Campaign Medal,The Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal with 6 campaign stars, Army Air Force good conduct Medal, Philippine Liberation Medal with Bronze Star, Philippine Independence Medal, Philippine Presidential Unit Citation Badge, Aviation Crew Member Badge, Marksman Carbine Badge, and World War II Victory Medal. He later was employed by The Torrington Company for 33 years, serving as a foreman in the machine room for the last 17 years of his employment.
He was active with local Veteran\'s Groups and VFW Post 9086 Torrington having served a Past Senior Vice Commander, and Chairman of several committees. and served as an original volunteer in The Torrington Veteran\'s Office. He was instrumental in obtaining the WWII 155MM Cannon Memorial in Coe Park and its maintenance as well. He was Co-chairman of the Veteran of the Month Memorial Services and a member of the Post Honor Guard.
He was also a Communicant of Sacred Heart church and a member of The Foreman\'s Club, The Sullivan Senior Center, The Leisure Time Men\'s Club and AARP, and enjoyed gardening, animals, and family gatherings especially with his grandchildren and great granddaughter.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his daughter, Linda Rovero and her husband Michael of Torrington and two grandsons, David Rovero and Timothy Rovero and his wife Christine.
He also leaves a great granddaughter Kirsten Marie Rovero. he was predeceased by brothers George, William, and Joseph Pukas.
Funeral Services will be held on Friday March 11 at 8:30 from Phalen Funeral Home 285 Migeon Ave. Torrington to Sacred Heart Church for a Mass at 9:00 AM. Burial with Military honors will follow at New Saint Francis Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Thursday from 6:00 to 8:00 PM.

Irene B. Pukas of Greenwich CT
a former longtime Torrington resident died Wednesday April 23 at Greenwich - Laurelton's Haven Healthcare. She was the wife of the late Joseph C. Pukas, Sr. Born in Torrington Oct 20, 1911, she was the daughter of the late Bolezlaw and Magdalen ( Strawinski) Kulesza. Prior to her retirement she was employed by The Torrington Company and Rose Haven LTD in Litchfield.
Mrs. Pukas is survived by a daughter Irene A. Savage of Old Greenwich; a son Joseph C. Pukas Jr. of Winsted; two sisters Joanna Delewski and Anne Cerruto of Torrington; four brothers, Joseph and Anthony Kulesza of Torrington, John Kulesza of Newfield, and George Kulesza of Georgia; four granddaughters and a great granddaughter.
A Memorial Mass will be held on Saturday May 3 at 10:30 AM at Saint Francis Church 160 Main St Torrington. Burial will be private at New Saint Francis Cemetery.

Paula Scoville, 38, of Canton
died Thursday March 3, 2005. She was born in Torrington Aug, 30, 1966 daughter of June (Dahlen) Scoville of Torrington and the late Paul H. Scoville. She was a graduate of Torrington High School Class of 1984 and The University of Connecticut Class of 1988. She was employed as an insurance underwriter, employed by The Fireman\'s Fund, GE Reinsurance, and most recently The Chubb Group. She also was employed in the family business, Scoville Plumbing and Heating Inc. of Torrington.
She was an avid skier and was a member of The National Ski Patrol and worked as a ski instructor at Ski Sundown in New Hartford, and had skied this country and Europe.
She also was a tap and jazz dancer having been taught at The Doncin School of Dance in Torrington. She was an active member of The Simsbury United Methodist Church.
In addition to her mother, she is survived by a brother, Thomas P. Scoville and his wife Jackie of Torrington and three sisters, Pamela Crouse and her husband Dale of Phillipsburg NJ, Judith Raymond and her husband Ron of Torrington, and Diane Anzellotti also of Torrington, several nieces and nephews.
A Memorial Service will be held on Tuesday March 8 at 2:00 PM at The Simsbury United Methodist Church 799 Hopmeadow St Simsbury.
