Helen A. Silano, of 22 Cook St. Torrington
died Saturday Feb. 19 at Charlotte Hungerford Hospital. She was the wife of Joseph "Lefty" Silano. Born in Torrington daughter of the late Michael and Helen Cibalskas, she was formerly employed as a foreperson at the Specialty Division of The Standard Plant for The Torrington Company.
She loved to travel and taking care of her yard, planting and landscaping, and was an avid knitter. She was also a fan of UCONN Husky Basketball.
In addition to her husband, she leaves her son Alan Silano and his wife Christine of Torrington and grandson Brent Silano. She also leaves a brother Joseph Cibalskas of Torrington, and was predeceased by her sister Mary Maro.
A Funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday Feb. 23 at 10:30 AM at Saint Francis Church 160 Main St. Torrington. Burial will follow at New Saint Francis Cemetery.

John Sherlock, 91, of 388 Charles Street Torrington
died Friday Feb. 18 at Charlotte Hungerford Hospital. He was the husband of the late Adele (Furtek) Sherlock. Born in Tariffville on May 9, 1913, son of the late Walter and Anna (Bobik) Sherlock, he was employed as an Inspector at Royal Typewriter and later retired as a Quality Control Inspector at Pratt and Whitney Aircraft.
He was a member of Trinity Episcopal Church and was an avid stamp collector. He also enjoyed animals.
He is survived by two sons and two daughters, Attorney Ronald P. Sherlock and his wife Cheryl of Harwinton and John Sherlock Jr. and his wife Rosemary of Kentucky, Virginia Bastien and her husband George of Vermont and Betsy Hord and her husband Craig of Washington State. He also leaves grandchildren Rebecca and Elizabeth Sherlock of Harwinton, Andrea Sherlock of Kentucky, Andrew, Margaret and Peter Bastien of Vermont and Lonnie and and Glen Hord of Washington State. He leaves several great grandchildren and three brothers, Anthony Sherlock of Manchester, Paul Sherlock of South Windsor, Peter Sherlcok of Massachusetts, and a sister Mary King of Manchester.
Funeral Services will be held on Monday 11 AM at Trinity Episcopal Church. Burial will follow at Hillside Cemetery. Friends may call at The Phalen Funeral Home 285 Migeon Ave. Torrington prior to the funeral on Monday from 9:30 to 10:30 AM.

Christopher M. Maher, 25, of 405 Hillside Ave Torrington
died Tuesday Feb. 15 as a result of a motor vehicle accident. He was the husband of Jaclyn (Cyr) Maher. Born in Torrington August 23, 1979 son of Michael and Debra (DeDominicis) Maher, he was a graduate of Oliver Wolcott Tech, Class of 1997. He had been Captain of the OWTS Basketball Team and Rifle Team.
He was employed by Scoville Plumbing and Heating Co as a plumbing and heating technician for the last seven years.
He was an avid hunter and fisherman, and also enjoyed snow skiing, and was a member of Torrington Elks Lodge and also participated in their bowling league. He was also a member of The North American Hunting Club.
In addition to his wife and parents, he leaves a sister Erica Maher and grandmothers Eleanor DeDominicis and Patricia Maher, and father in law Steve Cyr and mother in law Lexy Goss and her husband Edward, all of Torrington and several aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday Feb. 22 at 10 AM from Phalen Funeral Home 285 Migeon Ave. Torrington to Saint Francis Church for a Mass at 10:30. Friends may call at the funeral home on Monday from 4:00 to 8:00 PM.

Alfred H. (Bud ) Wright, 82, of 164 Milton Road Goshen
died Thursday Nov 21 at his home after a long illness. He leaves his wife of 57 years of Patricia (Dunne) Wright.
Mr Wright was born July 29, 1920 in Torrington son of the late Alfred and Anna (Ackerman) Wright and was a life long resident of the family home in Goshen which was built by his ancestors in 1787. He graduated from Litchfield High School in 1938.
He owned and operated the family farm, Spring Valley Farm, raising a herd of registered Guernseys. In 1952 the farm was awarded a State of Connecticut Greener Pasture Award and in 1988 it was recognized by The US Department of Agriculture as a Connecticut Bicentennial Farm, being owned and operated by the same family since the signing of the Constitution of The United States.
Mr Wright held a Real Estate Brokers License and he initiated a community in Goshen known as The Lake of The Seven Farms, later to be known as Woodridge Lake.
He was a former selectman, a member of The Board of Finance, and a long time member of The Planning and Zoning Commission in the town of Goshen.
He served for many years as the Treasurer of the Modern Milk Marketing Association. In the 1960's he was appointed to serve on The Federal Agriculture Stabilization and Conservation Service.
One of his favorite pastimes was flying small aircraft which he started at the age of 21 and eventually received a private pilot's license. He was a proud member of Koladza's Birdmen of Great Barrington Airport in Mass.
In 2001, he was one of several individuals from Goshen who were honored with the Secretary of the State's first annual Public Service Award, given in recognition of Connecticut citizens who have worked to make their cities and towns better places to live.
Besides his beloved wife, he is survived by four sons and their wives, A. Edward Wright and his wife Sandra, Timothy D.Wright and his wife Catherine, Christopher J. Wright and his wife Mandy, all of Goshen and Peter A. Wright and his wife Joy of Hayward, CA. He also leaves two sisters Marjorie Wadhams and her husband Frederic of Goshen and Eunice A. "Chip" Wright of Daly City, CA, and 13 grandchildren.
He was predeceased by a sister Ruth Wright Birmingham.
A Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday Nov 23 at 9 AM at Saint Thomas of Villanova Church in Goshen. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to The Dr. Edward P. Dunne Scholarship Fund PO Box 425 Unionville, CT 06085-0425

Myrlie MacPhail Fisher, 83, formerly of Thompson Heights in Torrington
died Tuesday May 6 at Litchfield Woods. She was the beloved wife of the late Fred J.L. Fisher. Born December 8,1919 in Saddle Brook NJ daughter of the late Beverly and Hermina (Tanis) MacPhail, she was the last survivor of three siblings. She was a housewife and mother of five children, and loved being a mother, singing, painting, and cats. She was a member of The Sullivan Senior Center and also belonged to The Church of The Latter Day Saints Mormon Church in Goshen.
She is survived by three daughters, Deidra Parks and her husband Robert of Waldwick, NJ, Terry Griffo of Key Largo, FL, and June Meyers and her husband Michael of Torrington. She also leaves two sons, Fred J. L. Fisher and his wife Sylvia of Torrington and Barry Fisher of Waterbury, several grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was predeceased by a sister Helene Bitter and two brothers Austin and Robert MacPhail.
Funeral Services will be held on Friday at Noon at The Phalen Funeral Home 285 Migeon Ave Torrington. Burial will be at the convenience of the family at George Washington Memorial Park in Paramus NJ. Friends may call at the funeral home on Friday from 11-Noon.

Rose "Tootsie" Chiarito, 77, of 14 Eastwood Rd Torrington
died Wednesday July 23 at Charlotte Hungerford Hospital. She was the wife of Stephen Smedick. Born in Torrington March 11, 1926 daughter of the late Antonio and Catherine (Sabia) Chiarito, she was a Communicant of Saint Peter's Church.
She was formerly employed by The Fitzgerald Mfg Co and also had worked for The Hartford Courant.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by two brothers, Michael Chiarito of Torrington and Anthony Chiarito of Hyde Park NY, and a sister Mary Conforti of Torrington, several nieces and nephews.
A Memorial Mass will be held on Friday July 25 at 9 AM at Saint Peter's Church in Torrington. Burial will be at the convenience of the family at New St. Francis Cemetery.

Marshall H. Waldron, Sr. 82, of 148 Wyoming Ave. Torrington
died Saturday July 19 at Charlotte Hungerford Hospital. He was the husband of Eleanor (Lathrop) Waldron. He was born in Torrington December 7, 1920 son of the late Dr. George H. and Helen (Hodges) Waldron.
He was a graduate of Torrington High School Class of 1938 and he attended The University of Connecticut. He was a US Navy Veteran of WWII serving three years on PT Boats, and he participated in the D Day invasion of Normandy. He also served in The Pacific Theater.
He was employed by The Torrington Company for 41 years before his retirement.
He was a member of Center Congregational Church.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, Marshall H Waldron Jr of Beaufort, SC, and Graham R. Waldron of Torrington, 3 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. Also surviving are four brothers, Hodges Waldron, Fletcher Waldron, and Loomis Waldron of Torrington and Graham L Waldron of Winchester, and several nieces and nephews.
A Memorial Service will be held on Thursday July 24 at 2 PM at Center Congregational Church with Rev. Dr. James Fung officiating.

Margaret Amelia Weingart, 91, of 121 Lake Harwinton Rd Harwinton
died Wednesday July 16 at her home. She was the wife of the late Theodore V. Weingart. Born in Torrington on June 2, 1912, she was the daughter of the late Vincenzo and Francesca (Nebiolo) Cavagnero.
She is survived by a son Theodore V. Weingart Jr of Harwinton and two daughters, Frances Adams and her husband Robert Adams of Burlington and Lois Grady and her husband R. Peter Grady, also of Burlington. She also leaves grandchildren Justin Grady and Kevin Grady and his wife Lara. She is also survived by a brother Erman Cavagnero of Torrington and two sisters Yolanda Rondano of Harwinton and Rose Turri of Torrington. She was predeceased by a brother Alfred Cavagnero.

Patricia (McGarrigle) Fox, 72, of 97 Thompson Rd Goshen
died Saturday Oct 11 at her home. Born in Brooklyn NY March 22, 1931, she was a Goshen resident for the last 10 years.
She was retired Assistant Vice President of Citizen's First National Bank in Ridgewood New Jersey.
She was a member of Saint Thomas Church, The Goshen Garden Club, Goshen Craft Club, and Friendly Neighbors.
She is survived by a son, Brian Fox and his wife Beth of Medway, MA, and two daughters, Donna Kohn and her husband Norman of Round Rock TX and Susan Tholen and her husband August of Goshen, and 9 grandchildren. She also leaves a brother in law and sister in law, Al and Alice Fox of Delaware, 2 nieces and a nephew.

Jennie "Jay" Ohotnicky, 90, of Torrington
died Wednesday Oct. 8 at Charlotte Hungerford Hospital. She was the wife of the late Edward Ohotnicky. Born Sept. 8, 1913 in Torrington, daughter of the late Bruno and Nellie Pavlik, she was a life long Torrington resident. She was employed by the Fitzgerald Mfg. Company, and was a communicant of Sacred Heart Church.
She is survived by a sister Sophia Fedorovich of Farmington, and three brothers, Chester Pavlik of Portland ME., Carl Pavlik of Barkhamsted, and Walter Sprucinski of Torrington and several nieces and nephews.
Graveside Services will be held on Monday Oct 13 at 9 AM at New Saint Francis Cemetery.

Eleanor Waldron, 81, of 148 Wyoming Ave. Torrington
died Friday Oct. 3 at her home. she was the wife of the late Marshall H. Waldron who died July 19, 2003. Born in Yonkers NY Jan.8, 1922, she was the daughter of the late Thomas S. and Eva (Floyd) Lathrop. She moved to the Torrington area in June of 1942.
She was employed as a secretary for Torrington Extend-A-Care and later for Center Congregational Church. An active member of Center Church, she also enjoyed bowling, playing bridge, and swimming and was a member of The West Hill Beach Club. She was also a poll worker for many elections.
She is survived by two sons, Marshall H. Waldron Jr of Beaufort SC and Graham R. Waldron of Torrington, and three grandchildren and three great grandchildren. She also leaves a sister, Grace L. Brown of Seneca SC. She was predeceased by a sister Eva Stadtmuller.
A Memorial Service will be held on Tuesday Oct 7, 2003 at 2 PM at Center Congregational Church in Torrington with Rev. Dr. James Fung officiating. Memorial Contributions can be made to Book of Remembrance of Center Congregational Church 155 Main St. Torrington, CT 06790.

Francis A. "Chief" Yanok, 82, of 48 Wintrhop St. Torrington
died Friday Nov 28 at Litchfield Woods. He was the husband of Ann (Shaia) Yanok. Born in Cambridge Ohio April 2, 1921 son of the late George and Elizabeth (Mazak) Yanok, he served in the Merchant Marines during WWII.
He joined the Torrington Fire Department in 1949, and served as Drill Master for 17 years.
He served as Fire Chief in Torrington for 8 years, retiring in 1985.
He was Torrington Man of The Year in 1985, and was a member of The Fire Chiefs Association and The Fire Instructors Assoc. He was a member of The Torrington Elks Lodge, The Knights of Columbus, and The Sokol Club. He also belonged to Eastwoods Country Club and was a member of The Post Office Retiree's league. An avid pool enthusiast, he was a member of many pool leagues.
In addition to his wife, he leaves his daughter, Dr. Cynthia Yanok of Harwinton. He was predeceased by brothers Paul, Andrew, and George Yanok and his sister Mary Smedick.
Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday Dec. 3 at Noon at Phalen Funeral Home 285 Migeon Ave Torrington with Rev. Lawrence Michael of Saint Maron's Church officiating. Burial will follow at New Saint Francis Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Tuesday Evening from 6 to 8. Memorial Contributions can be made to a charity of the donor's choice.

Roger P. Bourque, 83, of 77 North St Torrington
died Thursday Nov 20 at Charlotte Hungerford Hospital. He was the husband of Marguerite (Melisano) Bourque. Born in Sanford ME April 20, 1920 son of the late Vital and Rose (Normand) Bourque, he lived in Torrington most of his life, He was a veteran of The US Army during WWII as a Sergeant in The 726th Air Materiel Squadron in Northern France and Rhineland. He was a retired carpenter, working for Iffland Lumber and Vet's Explosives. He was a former member of The Torrington Pistol Club and The NRA. He was instrumental in placing flags on veteran's graves in Torrington for many years, and made sure no vet grave was left without a flag.
In addition to his wife, he leaves a son Roger and his wife Denise Bourque of Torrington and two daughters, Barbara Bayram and her husband Armen of New Britain and Loraine Bellody and her husband Ric of Torrington, 4 grandchildren and a great grandson. He also leaves three brothers, Norman and Maurice Bourque of Torrington and Jacques Bourque of Derby and a sister Jacqueline Bourque of Torrington. He was predeceased by a son Robert A. Bourque and a grandson Robert J Samele, and a sister Geraldine Lemieux and brothers Rudolph and Gerald Bourque.

died Sunday Nov 16 at Adam's House. Born in Norwalk Nov 16, 1929 daughter of the late John and Molly Dwan, she was formerly employed by McCall House in Torrington.
She is survived by 4 children, Lynne Branstron of Norwalk, Robin Palmer of Stratford, Alan Morton of Danbury, and Scott Morton of Norwalk, 5 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren.

Esther Poniatoski, 73, of 244 Torringford West St Torrington
died Sunday Jan 18 at Charlotte Hungerford Hospital. She was the wife of the late Alexander " Mike" Poniatoski. Born in Torrington Feb 20, 1930 daughter of the late Edward and Jennie Jacobs, she was retired from The Torrington Company. She also was employed by Waring Corp. in New Hartford and Dorset Rex in Thomaston. An avid bingo player, she was a member of Center Congregational Church.
She is survived by a daughter, Carol Whiteley and her husband Bruce of Thomaston, and two grandsons, Michael and Thomas Cantu of Torrington. She also leaves a sister Bernice Wood of Norwalk, and four brothers, Russell Jacobs of Florida, Marcel Jacobs of Bristol, Edward Jacobs of California, and Michael Jacobs of Torrington. She was predeceased by a sister Shirley Raydenbow.

Elizabeth Karpinski, 90, of 434 Brightwood Ave. Torrington
died Saturday Jan. 17 at Charlotte Hungerford Hospital. She was the wife of the late John Karpinski. Born in Torrington March 23, 1913 daughter of the late Karl and Mary (Zimmermann) Wothmann, she was a life long Torrington resident. She was employed by The Torrington Company, retiring in 1975.
She was a member of Saint Paul's Lutheran Church, St Paul's Church Retiree's Club, and Theresa Lodge Order of The Sons of Hermann, The Sullivan Senior Center and AARP.
She is survived by nieces and nephews.

William Culbert Reed, 79, of Torrington
died peacefully Jan 17, 2004. Born in Bangor ME. Jan 24, 1924 he was the son of the late Edgar and Lillian Richardson Reed, he lived most of his life in Connecticut. He worked as an architect before his retirement.
He is survived by a son Richard Reed of Portland ME, and two daughters, Brenda Reed of Torrington and Betsy Twitchell of Burlington, several grandchildren and great grandchildren.

James E. Murphy, 83, of 184 Albrecht Rd. Torrington
died at his home Monday July 12, 2004 surrounded by his family.
Born in Torrington Aug. 13, 1920 he was the son of the late William F. and Margaret (Gleason)Murphy. He attended Saint Francis School and was a graduate of Torrington High Class of 1940. He attended Fort Union Military Academy in Fort Union VA on a football scholarship. He entered the Army in 1942 and was in 5 major battles, receiving a battlefield commission as a 2nd Lieutenant in Bastogne Belgium. He received the Presidential Citation and three Purple Hearts and was discharged in 1945 with three Bronze Stars. He was recalled in 1950 as a Reserve Officer and went to Korea for 12 months, taking part in two battles and was discharged in 1950 as a 1st Lieutenant.
He was retired as building superintendent of The Litchfield Courthouse. He was former County Treasurer for the County Government before the government was abolished. He was one of the founders of The Torringford Volunteer Fire Department. He was a member of The Torrington Board of Safety for a 4 year term and was a Life Member of Torrington Elks Lodge.
He was a former Liquor Inspector for The State of Connecticut and was a member of The Democratic Town Committee and was The Torrington Democratic Registrar of Voters for over 32 years.
He is survived by eight children, sons Timothy Murphy and his wife Pam of Marietta GA, Patrick Murphy of Litchfield, and Michael Murphy and his wife Sheryl of Columbia SC, and 5 daughters, Cathleen Bartlett and her husband Robert of Stamford, Margaret Allred and her husband Scott of Las Vegas NV, Jane Krish and her husband Bruce of Winsted, Mary Elizabeth Kacenski and her husband Daniel of Milford, and Christine Delgrande and her husband John of Torrington.
He also leaves 10 grandchildren, Kate Howlett and Kevin Murphy, Amy and Brian Delgrande, Erika and Michael Krish, Ryan and Megan Kacenski, and Thomas and Erin Murphy.
He was predeceased by a son Kevin Murphy.
Funeral Services will be held on Thursday July 15 at 10:30 at Saint Francis Church in Torrington. Burial will follow at Saint Peter Cemetery. Friends may call at The Phalen Funeral Home 285 Migeon ave Torrington on Wednesday from 5 to 8 PM.

Florence "Dolly" Richards, 76, of 107 Eno Ave. Torrington
died Monday July 5 at her home. She was the wife of Harry George Richards. Born in Torrington April 15, 1928 daughter of the late John and Rose (Kovach) Gogolya, she was a life long Torrington resident, and a Communicant of Saint Francis Church.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by a son, James Richards and his wife Deborah of Newark Delaware, and two daughters, Judith Hammer and her husband Leonard and Jean Consolini and her husband Steven of Torrington, and 6 grandchildren, Karen Belding, Michael Hammer, Christopher and Matthew Richards, and Steven and Shelby Consolini.
She was predeceased by twin brothers John and Ernest Gogolya.
