died Saturday Nov. 27, 2004. She was the wife of the late John Avenia. Born in Torrington September 19, 1931 daughter of the late John and Mary (Parise) Ricciardone, she was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, who enjoyed cooking. She was a communicant of Saint Peter's Church and active with the Holy Rosary Society at Saint Peter's.
She is survived by a son, David J. Avenia and his wife Patti of Wallingford, and a daughter Mary Ann Toper of Burlington, and a sister Lisa Parise and her husband Tom Butler of Portland, three grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday Nov 30 at 10 AM from Phalen Funeral Home to Saint Peter's Church for a Mass at 10:30. Burial will follow at New Saint Francis Cemetery. Calling hours are Monday Evening from 5:00 to 8:00.

Elizabeth Boyle, 93, of Devaux Road Torrington
died Saturday March 27 at Litchfield Woods. She was the wife of the late William L. Boyle. Born in The Bronx NY Aug. 3, 1910 she was the daughter of the late Patrick and Emma (McGrane) Slattery. She was a member of the Winchester Grange.
She is survived by two daughters, Jamie L. Rieder and Nancy Beecher of Torrington, and a son Louis E. Boyle, Deputy District Attorney San Diego CA, 7 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren. She was predeceased by 5 brothers and 4 sisters.
Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday March 30 at 10:30 at The Phalen Funeral Home 285 Migeon Ave. Torrington. Burial will be at the convenience of the family in Winchester Center Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Tuesday from 10-10:30.

Jeremiah F. "Dermot" Carew, 74, of 311 Dennison Dr. Torrington
died Tuesday March 23 at Wolcott Hall. He was the husband of 44 years of Jane (Ryan) Carew. Born in Tipperary Ireland Feb. 3, 1930 son of the late Edmund and Mary Anne (Carroll) Carew, he immigrated to The US in 1953. He served in The US Army for 2 years, serving in Germany.
He was employed by Northeast Utilities for 30 years, retiring in 1990.
He was a member of Saint Francis Church and served as an usher there for many years. He was a former member of The Irish American Home in Glastonbury, and was a member of The Burville Fire Dept. He had a lifelong love of music that he shared every St. Patrick's day entertaining at local senior centers and nursing homes, where he became known as "Mr. Irish".
In addition to his wife, he is survived by five daughters, Mary Anne Carew, Catherine Winzler and her husband Paul, Margaret Clavette and her husband Jim, of Torrington, Bridgid Molyneaux and her husband Mark of Centennial CO, and Maureen Regner and her husband Alan of New Hartford, and six granddaughters. He also leaves a brother Miceal Carew of Ireland, and two sisters, Kathleen Hogan of Ireland and Joan Symonaitis of DesMoines Iowa. He was predeceased by nine brothers and sisters.
Funeral Services will be held on Saturday March 27 at 10 AM from Phalen Funeral Home 285 Migeon Ave. Torrington to Saint Francis Church for a Mass at 10:30. Burial will follow at Saint Peter Cemetery.
Friends may call at the funeral home on Friday from 5-8 PM.

George Binette, Jr, 55, of 60 Wyoming Ave. Torrington
died Friday March 19 at Hartford Hospital. He was the husband of Jane (Magyar) Binette. Born in Torrington June 25, 1948 son of Mary (Lewandowski) Gnazzo of Torrington and the late George Binette Sr. he was Manufacturing Superintendent at Turner and Seymour Mfg Co in Torrington for 38 years.
An avid golfer, he enjoyed the company of family and friends.
In addition to his wife and mother, he is survived by two sons, George Binette III of Terryville and Brian Binette of Unionville, a stepson, Paul Domaszewski and stepdaughter Jen Domaszewski of Torrington and six grandchildren. He also leaves a brother Raymond Binette of Torrington and two sisters, Dianne Media of South Carolina and Nona Swanson of Torrington.
Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday March 23 at 10 AM from Phalen Funeral Home 285 Migeon Ave Torrington to Saint Francis Church for a Mass at 10:30. Burial will follow at New Saint Francis Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Monday from 4 to 7 PM.

Beverly M. Hogan, 78, of Harwinton
died peacefully October 9, 2004 surrounded by her loving family. She was the beloved wife of the late Francis J. Hogan Sr.
Born in Bristol, December 22, 1925, she was the daughter of the late George Washington Meyer and was a lifelong Litchfield County resident.
She was a loving mother and grandmother and is survived by her children sons Francis J. Hogan Jr. and his wife Linda of Burlington, Ronald G. Hogan and his wife Barbara of Harwinton, and daughter Beverly Malinowski and her husband Stanley of Newington.
She also leaves a brother Arland R. Meyer and his wife Grace of Port St. Lucie FL and grandchildren Keith, Tara, and Lindsey Hogan, Brian and Amy Hogan, and Christopher, Stanley, and Nina Malinowski, and great grandchildren Dominic Hogan and Alyssa Fabbri.
Private Funeral Services with burial at Hillside Cemetery will be at the convenience of the family. Phalen Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.

Dr. Arlene J. Herzberg, 46,
died October 6 2004. She was the daughter of Joan Herzberg of Torrington and the late Robert Herzberg who died in 2001. She was born in Torrington and attended local schools and in later years, was a resident of Naples FL. At the time of her death, she worked as a Dermatologist and Cytologist for Carle Hospital in Urbana IL.
She received her Medical Degree in 1986 from George Washington University in Washington DC. She was author of several articles having to do with her certified fields of medicine, in addition to the ATLAS OF DERMATOLOGY,and the ATLAS OF NORMAL CYTOLOGY. She also presented several lectures throughout her career.
She completed her residency at Duke University in 1991 in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology, and completed fellowships at the University of Pennsylvania in Dermatopathology and East Carolina University in Cytopathology. She completed a fellowship in Forensic Pathology for Dade County in Miami as Assistant Medical Director in 2003.
During her education and employment, she lived in Washington DC, North Carolina, Maryland, Philadelphia, Florida, and Illinois. Throughout this time she had made lasting friendships that had continued throughout her illness.
In addition to her mother, Arlene is survived by one sister, Linda Herzber Cass and her husband Richard of Sudbury MA, and two brothers, Steven Herzberg and his wife Deborah of Winchester VA, and Michael Herzber and his wife Tina of Hewitt TX, four nephews and one niece.
A Memorial Mass will be held on Saturday October 16 2004 at 10:30 at Sacred Heart Church, 119 Grove St in Torrington. Burial will follow at New St. Francis Cemetery S. Main St. Torrington.

Gerald Curtiss Stockwell, 60, of 234 Harwinton Ave. Torrington
died Saturday Oct 2 2004 at Hartford Hospital. He was born in Waterbury Nov 20, 1943 son of the late Charles F. Stockwell Sr and Charlotte Bate Stockwell.
He was a member of the American Legion Post 146 in Bethlehem and was a Veteran of The US Navy, serving on The USS Kankakee.
He was employed as a truck driver in the family business Western Connecticut Trucking Company and also worked as a chef at several local restaurants, and Camp Strang and Camp Mohawk. He was also a self employed electrician, carpenter, and craftsman.
He is survived by a brother Donald Stockwell of Bethlehem and a sister Maryann Stockwell of Torrington and a step brother Charles Stockwell Jr of Woodbury and several nieces and nephews and a companion Helen Tengelsen of Torrington.
Graveside Services will be at Bethlehem Cemetery Saturday Oct 16 at 10 AM.

Herbert A. Bishop, 85, of Torrington
died Friday Jan. 28 at Haven Heallth Center. He was born in Torrington March 19, 1919 son of the late Lewis E. and Ada (Newport) Bishop, and was a life long Torrington resident. He served in The US Army during WWII in the Pacific Theater.
He was an avid Boy Scout and attained the rank of Eagle Scout, and was a Scoutmaster for many years. He loved photography and took many prize winning pictures.
He is survived by a nephew and nieces including Linda Needham, Susan DeDeo, Cynthia Douchette, Deborah Brunelle and Keith Bishop, 15 grand nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a brother Richard Bishop.
Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday Feb 1 at 11 AM at The Phalen Funeral Home 285 Migeon Ave. Torrington. Burial will follow at Hillside Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Tuesday from 10 to 11 AM.

Muriel Lyford, 81, formerly of 52 Summer St Torrington
died Tuesday Jan 25 at Charlotte Hungerford Hospital. She was the wife of the late Robert Lyford. Born in Springfield MA, April 14, 1923 she was the daughter of the late Thomas and Helen (Tatro) Atkinson.
She was a former employee of Howard's Shoe Store, The Yankee Pedlar, and Dee and Joanne's Restaurant. She later was a nanny for the Donne children in Litchfield.
She is survived by a daughter, Denise Grammatica and her husband Daniel and a son Roger Adams and his wife Marilyn of Torrington, 6 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. She also leaves two sisters, Lillian Rorhback Whaley of Vero Beach FL and Phyllis Northrup of Fort Meyers FL.
A Memorial Service will be held on Monday Jan. 31 at 10 AM at Saint Maron's Church.

Lorraine A. (Viellette) Winegar, 78, of 57 Dings Road New Hartford
died Tuesday January 25 at Charlotte Hungerford Hospital. She was the wife of the late Earl E. Winegar. Born in Meriden, July 15, 1926 daughter of the late Edward and Celia Viellette, she was a volunteer school teacher at Saint Peter's School for many years. She was also a volunteer at Torrington YMCA.
She is survived by her sons, Ward Winegar and his wife Mary, Kim Winegar and his wife Arlene of Torrington, Drew Winegar and his wife Roxanne of Nashwauk, MN, and Jay Winegar of New Hartford, and daughters Earlene Boden and Lois Melaragno and her husband Giuseppe of Torrington and Tracy Polinsky and her husband Mark of Harwinton. She also leaves her sister Valma Soltis of Torrington and 14 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren. She was predeceased by a brother Aldie Viellette and a sister Jeanette Peveri.
Funeral services will be held on Friday Jan 28 at 10 AM from Phalen Funeral Home 285 Migeon Ave Torrington to Saint Peter's Church for a Mass at 10:30.

Michael J. Slater, Jr., 5, of 16 Johnson Rd Falls Villiage
died Friday May 30 at his home.
He was a student at The North Canaan Elementary School.
He is survived by his parents, Michael J Slater Sr and Marsha (Webb) Slater and a sister Alicia and a brother Joseph Andrew, all of Falls Village, grandparents Roland and Anna Webb of Goshen and Robert and Bonnie Slater of Winchester, and great grandparents Ross and Bea Buel of Gilboa, NY and George Webb of Las Vegas, several aunts uncles and cousins.
Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday June 4 at 9 AM at Saint Thomas Church in Goshen. Burial will be at Saint Thomas Cemetery.

Armelle Rhynders, 85, of 65 Brightwood Ave. Torrington
died Monday May 19 at Valerie Manor. She was the wife of Raymond Rhynders. Born in France, on Feb 19, 1918, she was a former employee of The Torrington Company.
In addition to her husband, she leaves two daughters, Linda Saffioti and Katherine Peyre of Torrington and 8 grandchildren.She was predeceased by her son, Glenn Rhynders.

Jacqueline Wysocki, 62 of 17 Christine St Torrington
died Sunday May 18 at Charlotte Hungerford Hospital. She was the wife of William Wysocki.
Born in Hartford Jan 21, 1941, she was a long time resident of the Torrington -Winsted area, and was employed by Altec Mfg Co in Torrington retiring last year.
In addition to her husband, she leaves two daughters, Dory Miville of Torrington and Rosalind Wysocki of Naugatuck, and grandchildren Amber Wysocki and Roxanne Zamkovsky.

Francis J. "Smokey" Machier, 77, of 20 Berry St Torrington
died Tuesday Aug 5 at Wolcott Hall. He was the husband of Mae (Hickson) Machier. Born in Torrington May 30, 1926 son of the late Joseph and Josephine (Woiechowska) Machier, he served in The US Army during WWII in the 84th Infantry Division in the US and Germany.
He was retired as a Foreman at The Torrington Company.
An avid fisherman, he was a member of The Torrington Fish and Game Club and also belonged to the Torrington Company's Foreman Club, and was a member of Saint Mary's Church.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by 2 daughters, Cathleen Machier of Torrington and Patricia A. Fratus and her husband Stanley of Colchester, and a sister Irene Machier of Torrington and brother Paul Machier of Arvada Co.
He was predeceased by a son Gerald Machier and sisters Anna Fedorich and Mary Romaine and a brother John Machier.
Funeral Services will be held on Friday Aug 8 at 9 AM at Phalen Funeral Home 285 Migeon Ave Torrington. Burial will follow at New Saint Francis Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Friday from 8 to 9 AM.

David Reynolds, 65, of 62 Hart Dr Litchfield
died Sunday Aug 3 at St. Mary's Hospital in Waterbury. He was the husband of Ruth (Davis ) Reynolds. Born i Winsted April 6, 1938 son of the late Alfred and Rena Meyer, he was a graduate of Oliver Wolcott Technical School and colleges to get his degree in engineering. He started work at The Torrington Manufacturing Co in 1957 and was there for 28 years until they closed. He was an electrical and design engineer and acted as an application tooling engineer at BHS Tool in Farmington until his illness 7 years ago.
Very active in the community, he was a member of Calvary Baptist Church and was an usher there. He was treasurer of The Oliver Wolcott Alumni Assoc for 42 years and he received the Connecticut (CTTS) Award for 2001 for all his work in the Alumni Assoc. He was also President and Treasurer of The Tormanco Credit Union until his illness.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter Deborah O'Neil of Beacon Falls and son Scott Reynolds of Torrington, a step daughter Keli Molon of Torrington and 2 step sons, Todd Pygensky of Litchfield and Kevin Pygensky of Torrington.
Funeral Services will be held on Thursday Aug 7 at 10 AM from Phalen Funeral Home 285 Migeon Ave Torrington to Calvary Baptist Church for 11 AM. Burial will follow at New Saint Francis Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Wednesday Evening from 5-8.

Florence M. Morton, 80, of Torrington
died Sunday Aug 3 at Valerie Manor. She was the wife of the late Raymond T. Morton Sr.
Born in Pittsfield MA Aug 20, 1922 daughter of the Joseph and Vittoria (Diaca) Cencia.
She was retired from The Fitzgerald Mfg. Co. and was a former member of The Burville Fire Dept. Ladies Auxiliary.
She is survived by a son Raymond Morton Jr of Torrington and a daughter Helene Stewart of Wilmington Delaware and 4 grandchildren.
She also leaves two sisters, Nellie Bigelow and Barbara Ciliberti, and a brother Joseph Cencia all of Pittsfield. She was predeceased by a daughter Patricia Newth.
Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday Aug 6 at 2 PM at The Phalen Funeral Home 285 Migeon Ave Torrington. Burial will be at the convenience of the family at Hillside Cemetery.

Wayne John Dean, 48, of 194 Linton St Torrington died Sunday Oct 19 at Hartford Hospital. Born June 4, 1955 in Torrington, he was formerly employed by Ted's Repair Service.
He is survived by his father and step mother, W. Charles and DeLyce Dean of Torrington, his long time companion Linda McBurney of Torrington and a daughter Kristina Dean.
He also leaves two sisters, Joanne Adanosky of Waterbury and Elaine Pettit of Oakville and a brother Charles Dean of Waterbury. He was predeceased by his mother Joan (Ransom) Dean and a brother Robert Dean.

Sandra Lee White, 57, of 86 Hart Dr Litchfield
died Saturday Oct 18 at her home. She was the wife of the late Donald R. White. Born in Middlebury Feb 3, 1946 daughter of the late Lewis and Kathleen (Moore) Holt, she was a Goshen resident for 30 years prior to moving to Litchfield 6 years ago. She was a School Bus driver for Region 6 in Goshen for many years.
She is survived by 2 sons, David Morgan of Bantam and Cameron Morgan of Torrington and 2 daughters, Liesl Skilton of Morris and Jordana Morgan of Litchfield and grandchildren Colby and Eli Skilton. She also leaves a sister Wendy Santos of Middlebury and step children Robert and Melissa white of North Carolina and step grandchildren Justin and Brittany White, 4 nephews and 3 gr. nephews and a gr. niece. She was predeceased by a sister Penny Black and her step mother Charlotte Messick Holt.

Della Stauckas Hricko, 88, of 39 Pine St. Torrington died Saturday Oct 18 at Haven Health Center. She was the wife of the late John Hricko. Born in Torrington Aug 26, 1915, she was a life long Torrington resident.
She is survived by her in laws, Albert Hricko, Thelma Lovallo, and Helen Barry, and several nieces and nephews.
Graveside Services will be held on Tuesday at 10:30 at Saint Francis Cemetery, 460 South Main St. in Torrington. Memorial Contributions can be made to a charity of the donor's choice.
