Died On March 25, 2003
Joy Jeannine Adams, age 73 of Moundville, MO passed away on Tuesday, March 25, 2003 at the Nevada Regional Medical Center in Nevada following a short illness. She was born on May 2, 1929 in South Park, KS to Joseph H. and Maxi Eliza Clarice Stambaugh Caudill. On February 14, 1948 she was married to J.C. Adams in Merriam, KS and he preceded her in death on August 20, 2000. Joy grew up in the Kansas City area and graduated from the Shawnee Mission High School. She and her husband came to Vernon County in 1973 where they farmed and raised cattle near Moundville for many years. Survivors include one son, Ernie Adams, Gautier, MS, four daughters, Shelley Pitts of Nevada, Lorie Ann Burnett, Cameron, MO, Joy Lee Horne, Marshville, NC, and Lynne Shupe of Nevada, nine grandchildren, several great-grandchildren; her mother, Clarice Caudill of Nevada; a sister, Barbara Williams, Meridian, ID, and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband J. C., she was preceded in death by her father and one son, William Charles Adams. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on March 29, 2003 at Ferry Funeral Home in Nevada with Dr. William Cox officiating. Interment will follow in the Newton Burial Park in Nevada. Friends may call from now until the hour of service and the family will receive friends from 7-8 p.m. on Friday evening at the funeral home. Newell Allison
Died On March 23, 2002
Newell Wesley Allison, 91, Hume, MO, passed away Saturday, March 23, 2002, in Hume, MO. He was born May 26, 1910, in Kansas City, KS, to James Wesley and Lena Mattie Shepherd Allison. He married Maria Bautista in August 1942 and to this union two children were born. Growing up in Kansas City, KS, Mr. Allison had several jobs, including caddying for well-known golfers and working for bakeries. He joined the United States Navy at age 17, then re-joined after the bombing at Pearl Harbor. Following the service, he lived and worked in Tucson, AZ, until retiring from Coors Distributing Company. In April 2001, he moved back to Hume, MO, with his niece, Barbara Brooks and her husband Frank, and their family. Survivors also include two daughters, Julie Schilingno, and Roberta Trombetta, both of Tucson, AZ; two granddaughters, Lisa Estella Schmidt and her husband, Scott, Tucson, AZ, and Nicole Badger and her husband David, Anaheim CA; five great-grandchildren, Stefen, Ryan, Dylan and Sabrina Schmidt and Dominick Badger; along with seven loving nieces and nephews, Shirley Bird, Paul Allison, Phyllis Smalley, Becky Clift, Barbara Brooks, Mark Allison, and Matt Allison. Committal services will be held on Saturday, March 30, 2002, at 1:00 p.m. at Hume Cemetery, Hume, MO, with Paul, Mark and Matthew Allison officiating. Friends may call now and until noon Saturday at Ferry Funeral Home, Nevada, MO. Military rites will be performed by the Missouri Military Honors Team.

Wanda Ambler
Died On February 9, 2003
Wanda L. Ambler 68 of Stockton and formerly of Sheldon, passed away on Sunday, February 9, 2003 at the Stockton Nursing Home in Stockton, MO following an illness of several months. She was born on October 15, 1934 in Sheldon, MO. She was raised in Sheldon, and had lived in Stockton the past 15 years. She is survived by three sisters, Thelma McKenzie, Milford, MO, Charlene Rink, KC, MO, and Delores Pressler, Chico, CA. She was preceded in death by her mother, Hazel Tucker in 2001. Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, February 12, 2003 at the Beeny Ferry Funeral in Sheldon, MO with Rev. John Harrison officiating.. Interment will follow in the Tolson, Cemetery, Sheldon . Friends may call from Monday afternoon until the hour of service at Beeny-Ferry Funeral Home in Sheldon.

James "Jay" Anderson III
Died On June 3, 2002
James H. Anderson III, 60, passed away suddenly Monday morning, June 3, 2002, at Nevada Regional Medical Center. He was born October 12, 1941, in Kansas City, MO, to Dr. James Hayden Anderson Jr. and Normal Jane Roark Anderson. He married Mary Louise Scantlin on January 14, 1963, and she survives of the home. Mr. Anderson was born and raised in Kansas City, MO. He graduated from North Kansas City High School and attended Missouri University and Pittsburg State University. After school he came to the Sheldon area where he has made his living as a cattle rancher for a lifetime. He was a Baptist, a member of Sigma Nu Fraternity, the Native Sons of Kansas City, and Vernon County Historical Society. Survivors in addition to his wife Mary Lou, include two sons, James Hayden Anderson IV, Jasper, MO, and Jake M. Anderson, Nevada, MO, five grandchildren, one great-grandchild, and one sister, Nancy Ekern, Mexico, MO. Graveside services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, June 6, 2002, at St. James Cemetery, Milford, MO. Friends may call Tuesday afternoon and until 10:00 a.m. Thursday at the Beeny-Ferry Funeral Home, Sheldon, MO. The family will receive friends 7:00-8:00 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to the Vernon County Historical Society in care of Ferry Funeral Home.

Nikki Baker
Died On June 27, 2002
Nikki Jean Baker, 14, Nevada, MO, passed away suddenly Thursday morning, June 27, 2002, at Nevada Regional Medical Center. She was born December 6, 1987, in Nevada, MO, to Jeff Ray Baker and Lucia Kay Masters. Nikki was a lifelong resident of Nevada. She attended Nevada schools through the eighth grade. She was a member of the Pentecostal Assembly Church and very active in the church youth group and Sunday school classes. She enjoyed bowling. Survivors include her mother Lucia Stone, Nevada; father, Jeff Baker, Nevada; stepfather, Dennis Stone, Nevada; one brother, Brandon Stone, Nevada; three sisters, Whitney Stone of the home, Kayla Hecox and Hanna Baker, both of Carl Junction, MO; maternal grandparents, Leroy & Minnie Masters, Nevada; paternal grandmother, Dorothy Baker, Nevada, numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, July 1, 2002, at the Pentecostal Assembly Church in Nevada with Rev. A. D Hawes, Shelby Brandt, and Dennis Engelbrecht officiating. Jack Baker

Jack Allen Baker, 64 passed away Dec 19, 2002 at Nevada Regional Medical Center following a lengthy illness. He was born January 21, 1938 to James Otis Baker and Bertha Ratchel Love Baker. He was married February 10, 1958 in Nevada, MO to Freda R Wooldridge Baker who survives of the home. He was raised in Nevada and attended Nevada schools. He had worked as a painter in various counties. He worked at Carthage Marble, Carthage, MO and at the Crane Company in Nevada. He loved hunting and fishing and spending time with his wife, children, grandchildren and other family members whom he loved very much. He will be sadly missed by all who knew him. He had much respect for pastor Pyle of the Ash Street Baptist Church. In addition to his wife, Freda, survivors include three sons, Jack Allen Baker, Jr., of the home, David Baker and Wife Jana, Clinton, MO, Danny Baker and wife Marie, Rich Hill, MO; Three daughters, Jackie Baker, Rich Hill, MO, Brenda Conrad and husband Bill, Rich Hill, MO, Margaret Rector and husband Ron, El Dorado Springs, MO; 13 grandchildren, Crystal Miller and husband Dustin, Nichol Baker, Julie Vunovich, William Conrad, Rebecca Conrad, Ashley Rector, Ryan Baker, Jason Rector, Danny Baker, Jr., Lucas Baker, Jack Baker III, Katie Baker, Hailey Sara Baker; two great-grandchildren, Dustin Miller Jr. and Bailey Miller; two sisters, Margaret Chadd, Milo, MO, Margie Spencer, Nevada, MO; one brother, Jesse Baker, Nevada, MO. He was preceded in death by one daughter, Melinda Rose Baker, his parents, one brother, James R. Baker, eight sisters, Delores Rogers, Nellie Holzworth, Ruby Baker, Alta Baker, Helen Rimmer, Patricia Bliss, Mildred Bullock, and Bertie Nims. Jerry Banes
Died On February 22, 2003
Jerry Lee Banes, 65, of Nevada passed away on Saturday, February 22, 2003, at St. John's Regional Medical Center in Joplin following a lengthy illness. He was born on January 15, 1938, in Sheldon, MO, to Jess Monroe Banes and Berry Lee Baker Banes. Jerry grew up in the Bronaugh area and graduated from the Bronaugh High School in 1956. He worked for Banes and Hinkle Construction for most of his working life and also farmed and raised cattle with his father. He was an avid musician and played guitar with several local bands and wrote and performed on three records. He is survived by one daughter, Tammy Frame, Bronaugh; one grandaughter, Kerenza Frame, Bronaugh; one sister, Betty Houdeshell, Moundville; one brother, Lonnie Banes, Billings, MO, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Jack Banes. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, February 25, 2003, at Ferry Funeral Home in Nevada with John Nichols officiating. Interment will follow in the Sheldon Cemetery, Sheldon, MO. Friends may call from now until the hour of service at the funeral home and the family will receive friends from 1-2:00 p.m. before the service on Tuesday. Mary Barker
Died On February 19, 2002
Mary L. Barker, age 67 of Nevada, passed away on Tuesday, February 19, 2002, at her daughter's home in Ft. Scott, KS, following an illness of several months. She was born on March 8, 1934, in Ft. Scott, KS, to William W. Hester and Goldie May Marple Hester. Mrs. Barker was born in Ft. Scott and moved to the Joplin area at an early age. She spent most of her adult life in Metz and Nevada. She worked at Nevada Country Club for 17 years. She also worked as a cook at various restaurants in Nevada. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary. Survivors include five daughters, Marie Doherty, and Barb Harper, both of Ft. Scott, KS, Liz Forgey, Deerfield, MO, Lucy Tate, Overland Park, KS, and Gussie Calvert, Nevada, MO; one son, Tom Calvert, Rich Hill, MO, 20 grandchildren, three great-grandchildren; one brother, Jack Hester, Exeter, MO, and one sister, Louise Ireland, Joplin. She was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters, and five brothers. Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 23, 2002, at Ferry Funeral Home, Nevada, MO, with Rev. Bill Smith officiating. Interment will be in Ozark Memorial Park Cemetery, Joplin, MO. Thomas Barker

Thomas W. Barker, 81, Nevada, MO, passed away Tuesday, January 21, 2003, at Christian Health Care, Republic, MO. He was born April 21, 1921, in Vernon County, MO, to Arthur Howard Barker and Sadie Jewel Thurston Barker. He married Rosalie Lowery on May 25, 1946, and she survives of the home. Mr. Barker lived in Nevada most of his life working as a tree trimmer. He served in the U. S. Army during WW II. Survivors in addition to his wife, Rosalie, include two sons, Jim Barker and Don Barker, Nevada, MO; three granddaughters, Shannon Christberry, Bronaugh, MO, Jodie and Victoria Barker, both of Nevada, MO; one great-grandson, Brandon Barker, Nevada, MO; three sisters, LaVerne Henerson, Rich Hill, MO, Ruth Ann Jones, Milo, MO, and Nadine West, El Monte, CA. He was preceded in death by four brothers, Merle, Glenn, Elmer, and Earnest Barker, and one infant sister, Lottie June Barker. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, January 24, 2003, at Ferry Funeral Home, Nevada, MO, with John Nichols officiating. Interment will follow in Deerfield Cemetery, Deerfield, MO. Alice V. Barnes
Died On January 9, 2003
Alice V. Barnes, the daughter of Henry and Stella Shea Little, was born December 17, 1900 in El Dorado Springs, Missouri and died January 9, 2003 at Nevada Regional Medical Center at the age of 102 years and 22 days. She was united in marriage to Virgil I. Barnes January 17, 1918 and he preceded her in death October 9, 1977. Mrs. Barnes was formerly employed as a cook at the Nevada State Hospital until her retirement. She was formerly a member of several area coffee and sewing clubs. Survivors include one son, Claude Barnes of Moundville, Missouri, one daughter, Josephine Winton of Roland, Oklahoma, numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren, one brother, Marvin Little of Lamar, Missouri, and two sisters, Ruby Clements of Lamar, Missouri and Ruth Lowe of the state of Idaho. She was also preceded in death by a son, Homer Barnes and a daughter, Mable Uttinger and seven brothers and sisters. Graveside services will be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, January 11, 2003 at Deerfield Cemetery with Mr. John Nichols officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Evergreen Memorial Chapel. Friends may call after 4:00 p.m. Friday at Evergreen Memorial Chapel.

Wayne Baughn
Died On September 14, 2002
Wayne Baughn, 55, Moundville, MO, passed away Saturday, September 14, 2002, in his home at Rt. 1, Moundville, following a lengthy illness. He was born February 10, 1947, in Flagstaff, AZ, to Clarence Milton Baughn and Marion M. Shellenberg Baughn. He married Ruby J. Williams on August 31, 1965, in Kansas City, MO, and she survives of the home. Mr. Baughn grew up in Phoenix, AZ. He has lived in Vernon County for the past thirty years. Wayne was past owner and operator of B & C Auto in Nevada for ten years. He has worked for Transam Trucking out of Olathe, KS, for the past thirteen years as a truck driver. Survivors in addition to his wife, Ruby, include three sons Ernie Baughn and his wife, Roxanne, Schell City, MO, Eric McCully and his wife, Becky, Butler, MO, and James Baughn and his wife, Tammy, Moundville, MO; one daughter, Angie Curry and her husband, Brent, Sheldon, MO; his mother, Marion Baughn, Searcy, AR, eleven grandchildren, Adam, Chris, Tabatha, Cory, Wayne, McKayla, Brent, Deven, Ashley, Corey, and Cody; and one brother, Ronnie Baughn, Nevada, MO. Following cremation, a private family service will be held. Arrangements are by Ferry Funeral Home, Nevada, MO.

Myrtle "Helen" Bearly
Died On August 21, 2002
Myrtle 'Helen' Bearly, 86, Lee's Summit, MO, formerly of Sheldon, MO passed away Wednesday morning, August 21, 2002, at John Knox Village, Lee's Summit, MO following a lengthy illness. Helen was born as Myrtle Helen Adams on November 19, 1915 near Mound City, KS. She married her husband Clyde L. Bearly, from the Parker KS area, March 4, 1939. Clyde, after 54 years of marriage, preceded Helen in death in 1993.. Helen and Clyde lived in the Parker, KS area until 1948 when they moved to Sheldon, MO where they lived until 1993. After the death of her husband, Helen moved to John Knox Village in Lee's Summit, MO where she lived the remainder of her life. Helen was a member of the United Methodist Church in Sheldon where for several years she taught Sunday school and played piano. Helen was also a past member of the Order of The Eastern Star, Lions Club and Women's Society of Christian Service in Sheldon, MO. She is survived by one daughter an her husband, Lynett and Earl Gene Bloesser, Raymore, MO; one son and his wife, Robert and Camille Bearly, Kansas City, MO; two granddaughters Marti and her husband Scott, Cambron, Belton, MO, Amanda Bearly, Kansas City, MO; one grandson, Brent Bloesser, Kansas City, MO; two great-grandsons, Blake and Dylan Cambron, Raymore, MO; two sisters and their husbands, Barbara and Bob Dargatz, Hailey, ID, Mary and Jim Buck, Willainina, OR; one brother and his wife, David and Darlene Adams, Philomath, OR; two sisters-in-law, Eula and her husband Forest Wollard, Canby, OR, Claire Adams, Portland, OR and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, Helen was preceded in death by her parents, parents-in-law, two sisters and their husbands, and one brother. Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, August 24, 2002 at Beeny-Ferry Funeral Home in Sheldon, MO. Interment will follow at Sheldon Cemetery. Friends may call at Beeny-Ferry Funeral Home between noon and 5:00 p.m. Thursday, from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Friday and after 9:00 a.m. and until the time of service on Saturday. Family will receive friends at the funeral home Saturday morning between 10:00 and 11:00 a.m. Family suggests memorials may be made to the United Methodist Church, Sheldon, MO in care of the funeral home.

Mary Moffatt Beeny

Mary Moffatt Beeny, 79, Nevada, MO, passed away Tuesday, April 29, 2003, at the Nevada Regional Medical Center following a lengthy illness. She was born August 30, 1923, in Lamar, MO, to Louis A. Brummett and Blanch Moore Brummett. She married Ronald F. Moffatt on November 21, 1942, and he preceded her in death on June 3, 1972. Later she married G. Bernard Beeny in on October 9, 1976, in Nevada, MO, and he preceded her in death on February 8, 2003. Mrs. Beeny was born and raised in Lamar, MO. She was a graduate of Lamar High School in 1941. She worked as a secretary for Sheldon School System before going to work at the Nevada State Hospital in 1962 where she worked until her retirement. She has lived in Nevada the past 26 years. She was a member of the First Baptist Church, Sheldon, MO, and the Order of Eastern Star. Survivors include one son, Richard Lewis Moffatt, Carthage, MO; two daughters, Linda Wake, K.C., MO, and Charlotte Ann Sauter, Orlando, FL; two stepchildren, Dick Beeny, Portland, OR, and Ginger Myers, Nevada, MO; four grandchildren; numerous step-grandchildren; two brothers, Harry E. Brummett, Torrance, CA, and Lloyd Brummett, Fayetteville, NC, and two sisters, Betty Bacon, Stockton, CA, and Shirley Birr, Fresno, CA. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, May 2, 2003, at Ferry Funeral Home, Nevada, MO, with John Nichols officiating. Interment will follow in Sheldon Cemetery, Sheldon, MO. Delmer Beisly
Died On December 28, 2002
Delmer L. Beisly, 95, Deerfield, MO passed away Saturday afternoon, December 28, 2002, at Nevada Regional Medical Center following a brief illness. He was born November 3, 1907 in Milo, MO to Samuel Washington Beisly and Jennie Mae McClellan Beisly. He was married September 10, 1935 in Nevada, MO to Margaret Loretta Garrett Beisly. She preceded him in death October 18, 1992. Delmer grew up on his father's farm in rural Milo, MO and never forgot his love of the farm life. He attended school in Milo. Third of seven siblings, Delmer learned the importance of strong work. At the age of seven, he was assisting his father with farm work, walking behind a plow with three head of horses. After his marriage in 1935 he continued to farm in Milo for six years. Delmer served on the Dover Township and with his team of horses graveled South 71 Highway from Nevada to Sheldon. In 1944, they moved to the Deerfield, MO area and continued farming. He was a member of the Deerfield Baptist Church. Delmer found time to serve on the Cole Township Board for 10 years and also the Election Board. He always had time to help neighbors and do carpenter work at the Deerfield Baptist Church and Deerfield school. On October 16, 1991, Delmer was the parade marshal for the annual Deerfield Cocklebur Celebration with 42 entries. Survivors include, three daughters, Norma Griggs, Nevada, MO, Melba Oyer, Kansas City, MO, Donna Wheeler, Deerfield, MO; eight grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, two daughters, Wilma and Marjorie Beisly, one granddaughter, Regina Kay Johns, four brothers, True, Franklin, Dick and Donald Beisly and two sisters, Neoma Beisly and Peggy Laquire. Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, December 31, 2002 at Ferry Funeral Home with John Nichols and Mark Mitchell officiating. Interment will follow in the Milo Cemetery, Milo, MO. Friends may call from now and until the time of service at Ferry Funeral Home, Nevada, MO. Family will receive friends at the funeral home Tuesday afternoon, between 1:00 and 2:00 p.m. The family suggests that memorials may be made to the Deerfield Baptist Church in care of Peggy Pyle, Route #1, Nevada, MO or the funeral home.

Wilbur Bell
Died On March 23, 2002
Wilbur D. Bell, age 71 of Nevada, passed away on Saturday, March 23, 2002 at St. John's Regional Medical Center in Joplin following a short illness. He was born on October 6, 1930 in Stockton, MO to Joe Bell and Euphie Mae Clark Bell. On July 27, 1952 he was married in Prairie City, MO to Berniece Snow and she survives of the home. Wilbur was raised in Stockton, MO and graduated from High School in Schell City, MO in 1950. Wilbur served in the U.S. Navy from 1951-1955. He worked for Armco Steel in Kansas City, MO for 31 years until his retirement in 1986. Wilbur and Berniece moved to Nevada in 1987 where has lived ever since. He was a member of the First Christian Church in Nevada, the Heart of America Carnival Glass Association, and also a member of the Mic-O- Say Tribe in scouting. Survivors in addition to his wife, Berniece include one brother Joe Bell of Schell City, MO and numerous nieces & nephews. One son, Ricky D. Bell in 1969, his parents, one brother, Alva Bell, and one sister, Hazel Black, preceded him in death. Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, March 26, 2002 at Ferry Funeral Home in Nevada with Dr. Eldon Shaw, Pastor officiating. Interment and Military Rites will follow at 2:30 p.m. in the Floral Hills Cemetery in Kansas City, MO. Friends may call from 1:00 p.m. on Sunday until the hour of service on Tuesday and the family will receive friends from 7-8:00 p.m. on Monday evening at the funeral home. Berniece Margaret Berry, 90, Nevada, MO, passed away Monday morning, July 22, 2002, at Christian Health Care, Nevada, following a short illness. She was born July 25, 1911, in Nevada, MO, to Henry Clay Lyon and Carrie Ethel Cychres Lyon. She married Leon Berry on June 1, 1975, in Cassville, MO. He preceded her in death in 1977. Berniece was born and raised in Vernon County. She was a graduate of Nevada High School. She worked as an LPN 3 AT Nevada State Hospital for 30 years, retiring in 1980. Following her marriage to Leon Berry, she lived in Cassville for 20 years before returning to Nevada in 1995. She was a member of Community Christian Church. Following her retirement, she worked as a private nurse for a number of years. Survivors include one daughter, Helen Cornell, Nevada, MO; three grandchildren, David Garwood, and Mickie Boyd, both of Nevada, MO, and John Myrick, state of Nevada; 10 great-grandchildren, Sunny Chei, Brandon Garwood, Mike Farris, and Jeremy Boyd, all of Nevada, MO, Clayton Garwood, Neosho, MO, Kenny Garwood, Ft. Scott, KS, Tony Allen, Omaha, NE, Michelle, Roiann and Renea Garwood, all of Pittsburg, KS, and four great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by five brothers, Willis, Stanley, Homer, Loren, and Vernon Lyon; two sisters, Beulah Osborne and Dollie Curry, and one grandson, Michael Eugene Garwood. Funeral services will held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, July 25, 2002, at Ferry Funeral Home, Nevada, MO, with Rev. Wes Anderson officiating. Interment will follow in Newton Burial Park. Friends may call now and until the hour of service and the family will receive friends Wednesday evening from 7:00 to 8:00 P.M. at the funeral home.
