Maella N. Carle, the daughter of William N. and Dorothy N. Belk McCormack was born June 21, 1949 in Aranas Pass, Texas and died March 16, 2003 at Nevada Regional Medical Center at the age of 53 years, 8 months and 25 days. She was united in marriage to Richard H. Carle on July 15, 1995 in Moore, Montana. Mrs. Carle was a homemaker. Survivors include her husband, Richard, of the home, two sons, Robert Rowland of Lamar and Thomas Rowland of El Dorado Springs, Missouri, one daughter, Christina King of Liberal, Missouri, seven grandchildren, two brothers, William McCormack Sr. of Walla Walla, Washington and James McCormack of Snyder, Texas. Mrs. Carle was preceded in death by a daughter, Dorothy Schell, a sister, Lillie McCormack and a brother, Timothy McCormack. Graveside services will be at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, March 20, 2003 at Worsley Cemetery in Bronaugh, Missouri with Pastor Mike White officiating. Friends may call after noon Wednesday at Evergreen Memorial Chapel and the family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Clifford "Pete" Cartwright Sr.
Died On January 20, 2003
Clifford Lee 'Pete' Cartwright, Sr., 82, Nevada, MO, passed away January 20, 2003, at Barone Alzheimer Care Center, Nevada, following a lengthy illness. He was born October 19, 1920, in Nevada, MO, to George Lloyd Cartwright and Mary Catherine McGinley Cartwright. He married LeWanna Locke Cartwright on August 28, 1940, in Nevada, MO, and she survives of the home. Pete was born and raised in this area and spent virtually his entire life here. He served in the U. S. Army during WW II under General George Patton. Following the service, he made his living in construction and also worked for a time for Missouri Public Service as well as Nevada State Hospital. He was a member of the American Legion Post #2 in Nevada. Survivors in addition to his wife LeWanna, of the home, include one son, Clifford Cartwright, Jr., Nevada, MO; one daughter, Linda Bozworth, Nevada, MO; nine grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Robert Cartwright, Stockton, MO, and Joe Cartwright, Cedar Springs, MO; one sister, Flora Fargo, state of California. He was preceded in death by one daughter, Ruby Cornell, three brothers, and one sister. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, January 22, 2003, at Ferry Funeral Home, Nevada, MO, with Rev. Paul Mooney officiating. Interment will follow in Moore Cemetery, Nevada. Lewis Cass
Died On November 15, 2002
Lewis Sanford Cass, age 77 of Nevada and formerly of Sheldon passed away early Friday morning, November 15, 2002 at the Nevada Regional Medical Center in Nevada following a short illness. He was born on February 18, 1925 in Barton CO, MO to Frank S. Cass and Pearl E. Boyer Cass. He was married to Joan Cochran in 1947. He was later married to Jessie Miller in 1973 and she preceded him in death in 1990. In 1992, he was married to Twila Wickam and she survives in Lamar. Lewis grew up in Lamar, MO and graduated from Lamar High School in 1941. He served in the United States Navy during WWII where he was stationed in the S. Pacific. He then served in the Merchant Marines for a number of years. Lewis worked for General Motors in Kansas City for many years until his retirement in 1987. He had also worked for Lawn Boy in Lamar for several years in the 1950's and 60's. His memberships included the Sheldon Christian Church, the American Legion in Nevada, and he was a past member of the VFW in Excelsior Springs, MO. Survivors include One daughter, Linda Hale of Sheldon, MO, one son Charles Cass of Cape Fair, MO, grandchildren Nicole Cass and Dakota Hale of Lamar and three step grandchildren, Chad, Gavin, and Miranda Enochs, all of Cape Fair. Graveside Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, November 18, 2002 at the Sheldon Cemetery, Sheldon, MO under the direction of Beeny-Ferry Funeral Home, Sheldon MO. Friends may call from now until the hour of service on Monday, and the family will receive friends from 7-8:00 p.m. on Sunday evening at the funeral home in Sheldon.

Morine Chadd
Died On February 17, 2003
Morine Chadd, 89, Nevada, MO, passed away Monday, February 17, 2003, at Moore-Few Care Center, Nevada, MO. She was born August 23, 1913, in Cedar County, MO, to Robert Cargill and Cora Pike Cargill. She married Don Chadd on July 25, 1964, in Lamar, MO, and he survives of the home. Mrs. Chadd grew up and attended schools in Cedar County. She was a member of the Sulphur Springs Baptist Church. She lived most of her life in Vernon County and was a homemaker. Survivors in addition to her husband Don, include one son, Richard Klumpp, Nevada, MO; one daughter, Dorothy Sturm, Cordova, TN, nine grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, six great-great-grandchildren; two stepsons, Donald Chadd, Jr., Sheldon, MO, and Robert Chadd, Raytown, MO, and one stepdaughter, Neota Chadd, Kansas City, MO. She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Robert Cargill, Jr., and Russell Cargill; and one daughter, Bonnie Witte. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 20, 2003, at Ferry Funeral Home, Nevada, MO, with John Nichols officiating. Interment will follow in Newton Burial Park. Bette Jo Chapin
Died On October 16, 2002
Bette Jo, Judy, Chapin, 81, Bedford, TX passed away Wednesday morning, October 16, 2002 at Heartland of Bedford Nursing Home following an illness of several months. She was born January 25, 1921 in Butler, MO to the late Ohmer Lee Judy and Mildred Bennett Judy. She was married in 1943 at Kelly Air Force Base, San Antonio, TX to Ray W. Sharp. He was lost in action in Alaska during WW II in 1944. She then married Theodore Yale Chapin in Oklahoma City, OK in March of 1947. He preceded her in death April, 1988. Mrs. Chapin was raised in the Butler and Nevada, MO area. She graduated from Nevada High School in 1938 and attended Cottey College in Nevada in 1939. She became a stewardess for TWA airlines in 1940 based out of Kansas City, MO. She worked as a stewardess for five or six years. She and her husband, Theodore, moved to Houston Texas where she lived for almost 50 years. The last two years of her life, she had moved to Grapevine, TX in order to be closer to her family. Survivors include one son, Christopher Lee Chapin, Biloxi, MS; one daughter, Connie Cooley and husband John, Southlake, TX; two grandchildren; one sister, Dorothy Jean Bell, Akron, OH. She is preceded in death by her parents, both spouses and one brother, Jay Judy. Private graveside services will be held Friday afternoon, October 18, 2002 at Newton Burial Park, Nevada, MO. Friends may call between 9:00 a.m. and noon Friday at Milster Funeral Home in Nevada.

Larry Chrisenberry
Died On September 10, 2002
Larry V. Chrisenberry, 43, Nevada, MO, passed away Tuesday morning, September 10, 2002, at Nevada Regional Medical Center following a lengthy illness. He was born October 2, 1958, in Nevada, MO, to Robert L. Chrisenberry and Patricia Sue O'Toole Chrisenberry. Larry was a 1977 graduate of Nevada High School and a lifelong resident of Nevada. He has been self-employed nearly all his working life as a trucker and commodities broker. Survivors include one daughter, Blair Chrisenberry, Nevada, MO; parents, Bob & Pat Chrisenberry, Nevada; one sister, Kerri Gulliford, Nevada; one niece, Kelsi Gulliford, Nevada, and several aunts, uncles, and cousins. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, September 14, 2002, at 11:00 a.m. at Ferry Funeral Home, Nevada, MO, with Revs. John Nichols and Don Palmer officiating. Bob Chrisenberry

Bob L. Chrisenberry, 71, Nevada, MO, passed away Wednesday night, December 4, 2002, at St. John's Regional Medical Center, Joplin, MO, following an illness of several months. He was born February 7, 1931, in Nevada, MO, to Gordon Harold Chrisenberry and Hazel Gossett Chrisenberry. He married Patricia O'Toole on February 26, 1958, in Rich Hill, MO, and she survives of the home. Bob was born and raised in Nevada and spent virtually his entire life here. He worked for Henry Kraft Milk as a young man and in later life worked as a car salesman for C. A. White and Roy Brown Ford, Guthrie Motors, and Nevada Auto Mall. The last 13 years he spent as a trucker, retiring in August of this year. Survivors in addition to his wife, Pat of the home, include on daughter, Kerri Gulliford, Nevada, MO; two grandchildren, Kelsi Gulliford and Blair Chrisenberry, both of Nevada, MO; one brother, Gordon Chrisenberry, Holden, MO; two aunts, Grace Gossett Smith, Hugo, CO, and Jaqueline Gossett, Hayward, CA; several cousins, nieces, and nephews. He was preceded in death by one son, Larry Chrisenberry; one grandson, Bradley Chrisenberry, and one son-in-law, Steve Gulliford. Miles Mark Clark, 83, Nevada, MO, passed away Sunday morning, June 23, 2002 at the Barone Alzheimer Care Unit, Nevada, MO. He was born August 3, 1918, in Henry County, MO, to Homer J. Clark and Dade D. Adamson Clark. Survivors include one son, Gary Hollon, Kirksville, MO, and one daughter, Susan Azzaro, Pleasant Hill, MO. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday night, June 25, 2002, at 7:30 p.m. at Ferry Funeral Home, Nevada, MO, with Rev. Greg Ferree officiating. The family will receive friends 6:30-7:30 p.m. Tuesday night prior to the funeral services. Interment will be held at Parkview Cemetery Memorial Gardens, Kirksville, MO, on Wednesday, June 26, 2002. Wilma Lois Coale, 86, Nevada, MO, passed away on Friday evening, June 14, 2002, at Christian Healthcare, Nevada, following an illness of several months. She was born November 9, 1915, in Sheldon, MO, to Clarence F. Phipps and Stacy D. Norvell Phipps. She married William Benton Coale on September 28, 1935, in Nevada, MO, and he preceded her in death on December 26, 1993. Mrs. Coale was born and raised in the Sheldon, Nevada area and spent virtually her entire lifetime here. She was a Baptist and a homemaker. Survivors include two sons, Billy Gene Coale, Nevada, MO, and Sam B. Coale, of the home; one daughter, Connie Connelly, Nevada, MO, four grandchildren, Toni and Clayton Coale, and Teresa Wright, all of Nevada, MO, and Sherie Weber, Moundville, MO; three great-grandchildren, Melissa Coale, and Cody Soukup, both of Nevada, MO, and Joshua Weber, Moundville, MO. She was preceded in death by one great-grandson, Jason Coale, four brothers, and three sisters. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, June 18, 2002, at 2:00 p.m. at Ferry Funeral Home, Nevada, MO, with Pastor Taylor Francis officiating. Interment will follow in Moore Cemetery, Nevada. Lester Keith Cole

Lester Keith Cole, 90, Nevada, MO, passed away Saturday, January 4, 2003, at Nevada Regional Medical Center following a lengthy illness. He was born June 24, 1912, in Horton, MO, to Earnest Ulysses Cole and Lillian Dell Roberts Cole. He married Ada Belle Wilson on November 25, 1936, in Nevada, MO, and she preceded him in death on March 5, 1995. Keith was born and raised in Horton, MO, and spent his entire life in Vernon County. He made his living as a farmer, but also worked many years operating a dump truck, hauling cattle, and as a road maintainer. He was an avid bowler. Survivors include on daughter, Sharon Dissler, Nevada, MO, and one sister, Ione Wade, Joplin, MO. In addition to his wife, Ada, he was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Enes Cole, and one sister, Lucille Welch. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, January 8, 2003, at Ferry Funeral Home, Nevada, MO. Interment will follow in Balltown Cemetery, Horton. Lawrence Wayne Collier, 80, Norman, OK, formerly of Nevada, MO passed away Monday morning, December 24, 2001, at the Norman Veteran's Center, Norman, OK following a lengthy illness. He was born October 27, 1921 in Neodesha, KS to the late Robert Collier and Grace Swindler Collier. Survivors include two sons, Larry Collier, Cole Camp, MO and Duke Collier, state of CA. A private funeral service was held 3:00 p.m. Wednesday, December 26, 2001 at Newton Burial Park, Nevada, MO. Arrangements were under the direction of Milster Funeral Home, Nevada, MO.

Berndena Faye Compton

Berndena Faye Compton, 92, Nevada, MO, passed away Tuesday morning, February 4, 2003, at Moore-Few Care Center, Nevada, MO, following a short illness. She was born February 15, 1910, in Nevada, MO, to Rolla S. 'Coon' Sharp and Harriet Lillian Rankins Sharp. She was married to Clifford Austin on November 9, 1936, and he preceded her in death on September 6, 1967. She later married Clarence 'Pete' Compton on September 14, 1968, and he preceded her in death on October 18, 1978. Faye was a lifelong resident of Vernon County. She attended Walker Schools and graduated from Nevada High School in 1928. She was a longtime member of Pine Street Baptist Church in Nevada and also a member of the Rebekah Lodge, Nevada. Faye worked for various places during her lifetime including Horner's Grocery, Hedges Appliance, Del-way Drive-In, West Central MO Community Action Agency, and Maxwell's Grocery. She helped organize and was active in 4-H in Vernon County for a number of years. Survivors include one son, L. J. Austin and his wife, Judy, Nevada, MO; three granddaughters, JoLynne Crowe and her husband, Gary, Springfield, MO, Julie Forkner and her husband, Mike, Richards, MO, and Joyce Ryan and her husband, Doug, Nevada, MO; nine great-grandchildren, Tiffany and Tyler Parrack, Lucas Crowe, Mandy Stark, Austin Forkner, Nathan and Brooklyn Ryan, Julie Shafer, and Jeremy Crowe; three great-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Ione Forehand, El Reno, OK, Jean Haner, Nevada, MO, and one brother, Glen Sharp, Bonner Springs, KS. In addition to her husbands and parents, she was preceded in death by one sister, Ruby Mills and one brother, Wayne Sharp. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, February 7, 2003, at Ferry Funeral Home, Nevada, MO. Interment will follow in Newton Burial Park, Nevada, MO. John Conrick

John E. Conrick, 80, Stockton, MO, passed away Thursday, April 18, 2002, at St. John's Hospital, Springfield, MO. He was born August 10, 1921, in Madison, WI, to Frank Conrick and Vera M. Rains Conrick. He married Myrta June Janssens on June 15, 1947, in Nevada, MO. She preceded him in death on April 8, 1992. John graduated from Warsaw High School in Warsaw, MO, attended two years at Southwest Missouri State University, Springfield, MO, and received the remainder of his education at the University of Kansas in Lawrence. He had a Batchelor of Music Degree and a Master of Music Education. He was a member of the Phi Mu Alpha, Sinfona Honorary Music Fraternity. He served in the Army during WW II in the medical corps. He spent 32 years as a music teacher retiring in May 1983. John lived in Independence, MO, before moving to Stockton where he lived for 15 years. He was a member of the American Legion in Stockton and the Missouri Teachers Association. He was a member of both the United Methodist Church, Stockton, MO, and the New Life Community Church, Bolivar, MO. He was active in his churches and community and was a good father. Survivors include one son, Robert Conrick, Stockton, MO; one daughter, Carol Hays, Concordia, KS; one sister, Nancy Conrick, Stockton, MO; two granddaughters, Kathryn and Mary Wurm, and one nephew, James E. Conrick, Kennesaw, GA. In addition to his wife Myrta, he was preceded in death by one sister, Dorothy H. Conrick, and one brother, James P. Conrick. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 20, 2002, at Ferry Funeral Home, Nevada, MO. Interment will follow in Newton Burial Park. Jestina Cooper
Died On October 25, 2002
Jestina Jewel Cooper, age 87, of Nevada, passed away on October 25, 2002 at the Moore-Few Care Center in Nevada following a brief illness. She was born on March 12, 1915 in Mt. View, MO, to Russell Robert Webb and Mabel Hickerson Webb. On January 24, 1936 she was married to Gilmer Cooper and he preceded her in death in 1959. Jestina grew up in Walker and Harwood area and worked as an LPN for the Nevada State Hospital for 30 years. She retired in 1975 Survivors include one son, James Orville Cooper and his wife Lois, San Diego, CA; two daughters, Elizabeth Jones, Kansas City, MO, and Rhonda Cartwright and her husband Kenneth, Nevada; six grandchildren, 10 great- grandchildren also survive. She was preceded in death by three sisters and one brother. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday October 29, 2002 at Ferry Funeral Home in Nevada. Rev. Paul Mooney will officiate. Interment will follow in Newton Burial Park. Friends may call from now until the hour of service and the family will receive friends from 7-8:00 p.m. on Monday evening at the funeral home. Helen Crites
Died On December 5, 2002
Helen L. Crites, 67, Nevada, MO, went to her heavenly home Thursday afternoon, December 5, 2002. She passed away at her home following a lengthy illness. She was born March 20, 1935, in Grove Springs, MO, to Solomon O. Williams and Lula Marie Biggs Williams. Following the death of her mother, she was raised by her uncle and aunt, Ray and Ruby Emery. She married Lloyd C. Crites on November 17, 1952, in Arkansas. Helen grew up in Sheldon and attended Sheldon Schools. She moved to Nevada in 1970. She was the office manager for 20 years at the Harold C. Moore Insurance Company until she became disabled. Helen was a kind and loving person who devoted her life to her friends and family. She will be greatly missed by every one who knew her. Survivors include her longtime companion, Harold C. Moore, Nevada; one son, Lloyd 'Bud' Brutus Crites, Reno, NV; two daughters, Jackie Ann Henry, and Deborah Gene Crites, Nevada, MO; four sisters, Roberta Scott, Carl Junction, MO, Frankie Dalsted, and Shirley Rinkendouth, both of Independence, MO, and Nellie Potter, Napoleon, MO; five brothers, Billy Emery, state of Nevada, Robert Emery, Joplin, Donald Emery, state of Alabama, Charles Williams, Lebanon, MO, and Paul Williams, Independence, MO; six grandchildren, Devine Afton and Layton Crites, both of Reno, NV, Helen K. Crites, Lamar, MO, Jesse Bailey, Ogden, UT, Carla Clark and Lorenne Armstrong, Nevada, MO, and six great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; aunt, Ruby Emery; one sister, Sandra K. Ratcliff and one great-grandchild, Michael Armstrong. Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Monday, December 9, 2002, at Ferry Funeral Home, Nevada, MO, with Rev. Charles Brown officiating. Interment will follow in Sheldon Cemetery. Helen Crooks
Died On January 30, 2002
Helen M. Crooks, 68, Nevada, MO, passed away Wednesday afternoon, January 30, 2002, at Christian Health Care, Nevada, following a lengthy illness. She was born August 29, 1933, in Walnut Grove, MO, to Omer C. Davis and Verna Chandler Davis. She married Dodson Crooks on June 29, 1951, in Clinton, MO, and he survives of the home. Mrs. Crooks and her husband were in the Dairy Queen business for 33 years. They have owned several Dairy Queen franchises over the years including in Kansas City, Kirksville, Independence, Chandler, AZ, and ending with the one in Nevada, MO. They have lived in Nevada for the past 28 years. She attended the Church of Christ in Nevada. Survivors in addition to her husband Dodson, include three sons, Danny L. Crooks and his wife Peggy, Liberty, MO, Carey W. Crooks and his wife, Meshele, Nevada, MO, and Ricky L. Crooks and his wife Vanessa, Nevada, MO; 12 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren, and one brother, Carl Davis, Independence, MO. She was preceded in death by her parents; one sister, Flora Sheppard; and three brothers, Gauther, Russell and Froman Davis. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 2, 2002, at Ferry Funeral Home, Nevada, MO, with Pastor Taylor Francis officiating. Interment will follow in Newton Burial Park. Ray Edwin Crowley

Ray Edwin Crowley, the son of Fletcher and Gertrude Crowley was born April 10, 1927 in Richmond, Missouri and died February 12, 2003 at Moore-Few Care Center at the age of 75 years, 10 months and 2 days. Mr. Crowley was a retired farmer. Survivors include three daughters, Peggy Swink of Sheldon, Missouri, Pam Suddarth of Richmond, Missouri, and Melissa Forgey of Nevada, Missouri, two sons, Richard Edwin Crowley of Sheldon, Missouri, Ray Crowley of Napoleon, Missouri, fifteen grandchildren, and three great grandchildren,and a former wife, June Crowley of Horton, Missouri. He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers and one sister. Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, February 15, 2003 at Evergreen Memorial Chapel with Pastor Jerry Pyle officiating. Burial will be in Balltown Cemetery. Friends may call after 9:00 a.m. Friday at Evergreen Memorial Chapel and the family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. on Friday. Memorial contributions may be made to the family. Arrangements under the direction of Evergreen Memorial Chapel.
