Orville Ray Radford, 92, Nevada, MO, passed away Sunday night, March 31, 2002, at Nevada Regional Medical Center following a short illness. He was born September 22, 1909, in Altus, OK, to Thomas Arthur Radford and Minnie Mae Howerton Radford. He married Nettie Lee Ashley on February 13, 1936, in Hobart, OK, and she resides Mr. Radford was born and raised in Jackson County, OK, near Altus. He was Greenskeeper of Tulsa Golf and Country Club over 20 years. He was supervisor for a number of years in the 1950's for Sparta Trailer Manufacturing. For the past six years, he has lived in Nevada. Survivors in addition to his wife Nettie, include two sisters, Elda Mae Lankford, Midwest City, OK, and Valare Harrington, Del City, OK; three nephews, Conrad Ashley, Joplin, MO, Ronald Dale Ashley and Orville Crisp, and one niece, Ethel Taylor, Brandon, OR. Graveside services will be held on Thursday, April 4, 2002, at 2:30 p.m. at the Hobart Rose Cemetery in Hobart, OK, with Rev. Tommy Clark officiating. Doris Rager
Died On August 21, 2002
Doris Evelyn Rager, 72, Nevada, MO, passed away Wednesday evening, August 21, 2002, at Nevada Regional Medical Center following a lengthy illness. She was born November 8, 1929, in Cass County, MO, to Herman Hadley Dickson and Alma Gertrude Hubbard Dickson. Ms. Rager spent much of her youth on the West Coast. She returned to this area in the late 1940's and spent virtually the rest of her life in this area. She was a member of the Christian Church. She worked a variety of jobs, but worked for Key Industries for 15 years. Survivors include one daughter, Sharon Riggs and her husband, Ed, Nevada, MO; four grandchildren, Dale Lipe and Travis Riggs, both of Nevada, MO, Bryan Wood, Atlanta, GA, and Lisa Wood, Kansas City, MO; three great-grandchildren, and companion of 38 years, Dean Rager, Nevada, MO. She was preceded in death by one son, Jimmie Reuben Neely, and one daughter, Donna Jo Wood. Graveside services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 24, 2002, at Moore Cemetery with John Nichols officiating. David Rainey

David R. Rainey, 50, Nevada, MO, passed away suddenly Thursday, May 1, 2003, at Nevada Regional Medical Center. He was born November 21, 1952, in Denton, TX. He married Cynthia Basham on January 15, 1977, in Nevada, MO, and she survives of the home. David grew up in the Denton-Dallas area. He graduated from high school in 1971 from North Kansas City High School. He worked for Payless Cashways in Kansas City, MO, for 19 years. He then moved to Detroit, MI, where he lived and worked for six years until his retirement due to illness in 1997. He has lived in Nevada since that time and was a member of the Community Christian Church. Survivors in addition to his wife Cynthia, include three daughters, Jennifer Rainey, Shelby Township, MI, Shelly Rainey, Nevada, MO, and Mary MacFarlane, Shelby Township, MI; one brother, Ken Rainey, Nevada, MO, and two sisters, Cheryl Raymond, Lee's Summit, MO, and Kathy Rainey, Kansas City, MO. He was preceded in death by his parents, Melvin & Sylvia Rainey. Memorial Services will be held at 3:30 p.m. on Monday, May 5, 2003, at the Community Christian Church, Nevada, MO, with Pastors Felix Salazar and Wes Anderson officiating. Ben Ralph
Died On May 16, 2002
Ben Lee Ralph, 61, Nevada, MO, passed away Thursday, May 16, 2002, at Research Medical Center, Kansas City, MO, following a short illness. He was born January 12, 1941, in Hume, MO, to Paul Norman Ralph ands Geraldine Edwards Ralph. He married Sharon Fryer on October 24,1960, in Compton, CA, and she survives of the home. Ben was born in Hume and grew up in California. He moved to Pleasanton, KS, as a teenager. At the age of 18, he moved back to California where he lived and worked for the next 40 years. He worked for Ford Motors for 21 years. He also worked for Loomis and Sectron Armored Car Carriers for 10 years before retiring in 1994. He came to Nevada in July of 2000. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. Survivors in addition to his wife Sharon, include one son, Paul Ralph and his wife Kelli, Placentia, CA; one daughter, Julie Bachmann and her husband Ole, Buena Park, CA; six grandchildren, Christopher Allen and Alexandra Bachmann, both of Buena Park, CA, Brandon Ralph, Alec Ralph, Justin Ralph, and Mackenna Ralph, all of Placentia, CA; one sister, Katie Sutton and her husband, Kenney, Nevada, MO; one brother, Jerome Ralph, California state; one brother-in-law, Bill Fryer, Englewood, CA, and two nieces, Cindy and Jeannie of California. Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Monday, May 20, 2002, at Ferry Funeral Home, Nevada, MO, with Taylor Francis officiating. Cremation will follow. Veda Ray

Veda May Ray, 69, Nevada, MO passed away Friday morning, October 11, 2002 at Nevada Regional Medical Center, Nevada, MO following a lengthy illness. She was born December 11, 1932 in Kingston, AR to the late Floyd Harvey Griggs and Ella May Walker Griggs. Survivors include two daughters, Betty Hucke, Liberty, MO and Lynn Storey; three sons, Justin Ray, Larry Burks and Sandy Hudson; nine grandchildren and one great-grandchild; one sister, Gennie Bradley, Springdale, AR; one brother C. L. Griggs, Springdale, AR; numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and one son, Jerry Hill. Mrs. Ray wished to be cremated and there are no services planned. Katherine Lucille Rector, 83, Nevada, MO, passed away Saturday February 9, 2002, at Nevada Regional Medical Center following a brief illness. She was born February 2, 1919, in Humboldt, KS, to Carl H. Bolton and Nellie Harper Bolton. She married Loren E. Rector on December 14, 1941, in Nevada, MO, and he preceded her in death in 1986. Mrs. Rector lived most of her life in Nevada. She was a member of the All Saints Episcopal Church. She loved the outdoors and was a fishing and hunting enthusiast. Survivors include one son, Gregory A. Rector, Olathe, KS; one granddaughter, Leigh Anne Rector, Olathe, KS; one brother, Carl Bolton II and his wife Norma, Reeds Spring, MO, and one nephew, Carl Bolton III, Overland Park, KS. Memorial services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, February 14, 2002, at the All Saints Episcopal Church, Nevada, MO, with Pastor Mimi Savidge officiating. Donald Reed
Died On March 14, 2003
Donald Lee Reed, age 66, Nevada, MO, passed away on March 14, 2003, at his home in Nevada. He was born on November 18, 1936, in Foster, MO, to Carl Dean Reed and Ruby Shelton Reed. On. June 8, 1958, he was married in Nevada to Leona Marie Phillips and she preceded him in death on March 2, 1995. Don grew up in the Metz and Rich Hill areas and graduated from the Metz High School in 1955. He served in the United States Army from 1960 to 1962 where he was stationed in Germany as a bridge specialist. During the service, he received the Good Conduct Medal. He was a faithful attendant at many garage sales. He worked for Crane Plumbing in Nevada for 28 years from April 7, 1971, until his retirement on June 4, 1999. He was a member of Union Local #372 at Crane. Survivors include one son Donald Eugene Reed of El Dorado Springs, MO; one daughter, Trudy Marie Smith of Nevada; three grandchildren, Zackry Newton Smith, Aaron Christopher Reed, and Nathan Tyler Reed, all of Nevada; two brothers, Carl Douglas Reed, Kansas City, Kansas, and Willis Van Kirk, Rich Hill, MO, one sister, Catherine Anne Geary, Mayview, MO, his stepmother, Leila Reed, Nevada; his step- father, Howard VanKirk, Butler, MO, and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by both of his parents and one sister, Shirley VanKirk. Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, March 19, 2003, at Ferry Funeral Home in Nevada. Interment will follow in the Moore Cemetery with Rev. Terry Mosher officiating. Sylvia Yana Reid, 101, Goddard, KS, formerly of Nevada, MO passed away Saturday evening, December 29, 2001, at the Medical Lodge of Goddard, Goddard, KS following a lengthy illness. She was born December 29, 1900 in Leesville, MO to the late Perry A. Carleton and Armada Mayhugh Carleton. She was married to John W. Reid who preceded her in death in 1995. Mrs. Reid lived in Nevada from 1906 to 1983 when she and her husband moved to Independence, MO. While in Nevada, She taught at Cottey College and in Walker, MO. She was a very active member of the 1st Baptist Church in Nevada. Survivors include two grandchildren, Larry W. Reid, Tarpon Springs, FL and Yana R. Reid, state of KS. She was preceded in death by her parents, spouse, one son, Burl Reid and two sisters. Graveside services will be 2:00 p.m. Thursday, January 3, 2002 at Newton Burial Park in Nevada with John Nichols officiating. Robert Rich
Died On January 20, 2003
Robert Eugene Rich, 65, Nevada, MO, passed away Monday, January 20, 2003, at Nevada Regional Medical Center. He was born September 21, 1937, in Butler, MO, to Robert Earl Rich and Evelyn Nance Rich. In 1955, Bob entered the U. S. Navy serving 23 years. While in the Navy, he met and married Paula Duran. His daughter was born while he was in Hawaii. They later moved back to California. He retired from the Navy as Lieutenant Chief Commander in 1972. After retiring from the Navy, he moved to Nevada where he lived until his death. On November 24, 1990, he married Beverly Elane 'Jeri' Smith in Joplin, MO. She preceded him in death on January 20, 1996. Survivors include one daughter, Theresa Gomez, Denver, CO; one granddaughter, Amber Gomez, Denver, CO; stepmother, Lois Rich, Nevada, MO; one brother, Donald Ray, Alaska; two aunts, Allene Duzan, Nevada, MO, and Ella Mae Rich, Rich Hill, MO, and several cousins. Bob was also preceded in death by his father, Robert Earl Rich, his mother, and two stepsisters. Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Monday, January 27, 2003, at Ferry Funeral Home, Nevada, MO, with Lawrence Cripps officiating. Interment will follow in National Cemetery, Ft. Scott, KS. Robert Rich

Robert Eugene Rich, Sr., age 88, Nevada, MO, passed away Sunday afternoon, August 11, 2002, at his home in Nevada following a long illness. He was born August 9, 1914, in Rich Hill, MO, to Robert Ray Rich and Goldie Kritzing Rich. He married Lois Gotschall on February 5, 1944, in Pittsburg, KS, and she survives of the home. Bob and Lois have made their home in Nevada since their marriage. For many years he owned and operated a T. V. and radio service in Nevada. Later he was employed at Nevada State Hospital. Survivors in addition to his wife Lois include one son, Robert Rich, Jr., Nevada, MO; one granddaughter, Theresa Gomez; one great-granddaughter, Amber Nicole Gomez, both of Lakewood, CO; one sister, Allene Duzan, Nevada, MO; one sister-in-law, Ella Mae Rich, Rich Hill, MO; three nieces, Vickie Rich, Rich Hill, MO, Sharlene Smith, Raytown, MO, and Diana Corban, Phoenix, AZ; two nephews, Warren and Greg Rich, both of Rich Hill, MO. He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, and one sister. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, August 14, 2002, at Ferry Funeral Home, Nevada, MO, with John Nichols officiating. Interment will follow in Newton Burial Park. Byron Richards Jr.
Died On October 27, 2002
Byron William Richards, Jr., 80, Nevada, MO, passed away Sunday afternoon, October 27, 2002, at Moore-Few Care Center, Nevada, following a lengthy illness. He was born August 14, 1922, in Kansas City, MO, to Byron William Richards, Sr. and Maude Florence Wright Richards. Mr. Richards grew up in Kansas City. Byron served in the U.S. Navy during WW II as a gunner's mate and later was a gunner's mate with the U.S. Coast Guard, retiring in 1970. Following retirement from the Coast Guard, he came to Nevada and spent the remainder of his life here. He was a Baptist, a member of the American Legion and VFW, and served at least one term as Commander of the VFW. Survivors include three sons, Byron William Richards III, Wildwood, NJ, William Edward Richards, Kansas City, MO, and John Zamora Richards, San Diego, CA; four daughters, Elizabeth Hazel Aggar, Virginia Beach, VA, Mary Maude Probst, Jersey Shores, PA, Vickie Lynn Armstrong, Nevada, and Elizabeth Lee Zabaljauregui, San Diego, CA; numerous grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by infant twin sons, another son, Jerry Dale Richards, one infant daughter; two sisters, Clara and Grace; and one brother, John. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, November 1, 2002, at Ferry Funeral Home, Nevada, MO, with Rev. Wes Anderson officiating. Interment will follow in National Cemetery, Ft. Opal Rider

Opal Rose Rider, 70, Nevada, MO, passed away on Tuesday January 28, 2003, at the Nevada Regional Medical Center in Nevada following a lengthy illness. She was born July 27, 1932, in Weiser, ID, to Paul Albert Burnham and Helen Ray Ellis Burnham. She married O. C. Rider on November 18, 1977, in Miami, OK, and he survives of Moundville, MO Mrs. Rider grew up and attended school in Flora, IL. She has lived in the Nevada area since moving here in 1954. She was a member of the V.F.W. Women's Auxiliary and the Nevada Eagles Lodge Ladies' Auxiliary. Survivors in addition to her husband, O. C., include three sons, Roy, Eddie, and Jeff Murphy, all of Nevada, MO; one daughter, Connie Rogers, Independence, MO; five sisters, Mabel Speagle, Xenia, IL, Dora Beachner, and Virginia Harper, both of Independence, MO, Juanita Burnham, Lacombe, LA, and Sharon Thompson, Orange Park, FL; one brother, Paul Burnham, Nevada, MO, seven grandchildren, and 11 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one son, David Murphy. Graveside services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 30, 2003, at Worsley Cemetery, Bronaugh, MO, with Rev. Paul Mooney officiating. Helen Rachel Rimmer, 82, Nevada, MO, passed away Friday morning, January 4, 2002, at Moore-Few Care Center, Nevada, following a lengthy illness. She was born October 28, 1919, in Nevada, MO, to James Otis Baker and Bertha Lucille Love Baker. She married Harry Rimmer on November 21, 1936, in Lamar, MO, and he preceded her in death on May 5, 1984. Mrs. Rimmer was born and raised in Nevada and spent virtually her entire life here. She was a homemaker. She was a member of the Victory Baptist Church, Nevada, the American Legion Auxiliary and D.A.V. Survivors include three daughters, Barbara Belcher, Oswego, KS, Patty Epps, Warrensburg, MO, Doris Fairall, Anaheim, CA; two brothers, Jack Baker and Jess Baker, both of Nevada, MO; two sisters, Margaret Chadd, Milo, MO, and Marjorie Spencer, Nevada, MO, nine grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren. She wa+s preceded in death by one great-great-grandchild Cherish Belcher. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, January 7, 2002, at Ferry Funeral Home, Nevada, MO, with Rev. Clinton Alva Ripley, 88, Moundville, MO, passed away Tuesday, February 25, 2003, at Moore-Few Care Center, Nevada, following a brief illness. He was born June 13, 1914, in Moundville, MO, to Alva Ripley and Tena Folks Ripley. He married Nelma A. Thompson on March 16, 1939, in Lamar, MO, and she survives of the home. Mr. Ripley was born and raised in Vernon County and spent his entire life here. He made his living as a farmer and rancher. He was a member of the Bronaugh Christian Church, Bronaugh Lions Club, and Nevada BPOE #564 Elks Lodge. Survivors in addition to his wife Nelma, include one brother, Maurice Ripley, Moundville, MO, and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Friday, February 28, 2003, at Ferry Funeral Home, Nevada, MO. Interment will follow in Deerfield Cemetery, Deerfield, MO. Velma Robinson

Velma Colleen Robinson, 75, Nevada, MO, passed away suddenly Monday, May 5, 2003, at her home in Nevada. She was born May 1, 1928, in Mapleton, KS to Archie Clyde Sweet and Ethel McIntire. She married T. V. Robinson on May 29, 1944, in Ft. Scott, KS, and he survives of the home. Mrs. Robinson was born and raised in Kansas but spent much of her adult life in Kansas City, KS. She came to Vernon County in 1984 and spent the remainder of her life here. She was a member of the Pentecostal Assembly Church in Nevada and was a homemaker. Survivors in addition to her husband T. V. of the home, include one daughter, Sandy Edgington, Pleasanton, KS, five grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, two sisters, and one brother. She was preceded in death by one son, Virgil Dwaine Robinson. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, May 8, 2003, at the Pentecostal Assembly Church in Nevada with Rev. A. D. Hawes officiating. Committal services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday at the Johnson County Memorial Gardens, Overland Park, KS. Irous Roby

Irous Pryor Roby, age 90 of Nevada, passed away on Wednesday, February 27, 2002 at the Christian Health Care of Nevada. She was born on October 15, 1911 in St. Clair County to Charles T. Hess and Sophia Lillie Stringer Hess. On June 4, 1927, she was married to Howard Pryor who preceded her in death in 1958. She was later married to Raymond Roby on April 15, 1961 and he preceded her in death in 2001. Irous was raised in Cedar County near Virgil City. She attended school in Virgil City. She lived nearly all of her adult life in Vernon County. She spent her whole life raising and caring for her family. Survivors include one son, James L. Pryor, Lee Summit, MO, six daughters, Ivalene Wilson, Orange City, FL , Annie Mayfield, Grove, OK, Lori Crossland, Belton, MO, Betty Parrack, Nevada, Paulene Allen, Bentley, KS, Edna Hunter, Stover, MO, eleven step children, nineteen grandsons, sixteen granddaughters, and numerous great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. In addition to her two husbands, she was preceded in death by three sons, Paul Pryor, Wayne Pryor, and Norman Pryor, and a grandson James Gatewood Jr. Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday March 4, 2002 at Ferry Funeral Home in Nevada. Interment will follow in the Olive Branch Cemetery, Milo. Friends may call from now until the hour of service at the funeral home and the family will receive friends from 5-6:00 p.m. on Sunday evening at the funeral home. Ida E. Roseman, 98, Nevada, MO, passed away Tuesday, February 25, 2003, at Barone Alzheimer Care Center, Nevada, MO, following a short illness. She was born April 7, 1904, in Halstead, KS, to Isaac J. Ware and Flora Josephine Marshall Ware. She married William Lee Roseman on April 6, 1945, in Nevada, MO. He preceded her in death on January 6, 1987. Mrs. Roseman was born and raised in Halstead, KS. She came to Nevada as a teenager and lived here ever since. She was a member of the Community Christian Church in Nevada. She worked for Scott's Department Store for several years. Ida was also a homemaker and primary caretaker for her family for many years. Survivors include two nieces, Velda B. McCormick, Shreveport, LA, and Lola B. Scott, Pass Christian, MS, and two nephews, Melvin Ware, El Dorado Springs, MO, and Johnny Troyer, Kansas City, MO. In addition to her husband, William, and her parents, she was preceded in death by three sisters, Inez Berger Morton, Clara Ware Hallam, and Bessie Troyer, and two brothers, Eldo Ware and Richard Ware. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, March 3, 2003, at Ferry Funeral Home, Nevada, with Rev. Wes Anderson officiating. Interment will follow in Newton Burial Park, Nevada. Roberta Evalyn Rousseau, 86, Hanford, CA, formerly of Sheldon, MO, passed away Sunday, January 19, 2003, at the Skilled Nursing Facility in Hanford, CA, following a lengthy illness. She was born on October 2, 1916, in Kansas. Roberta was born in Kansas, but spent most of her adult life in Nevada. She worked as a draft board clerk for the Federal Government for more than 30 years. Survivors include one sister, Leah Modrcin, Lemoore, CA; one brother, Richard Rousseau, Zillah, WA, and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Friday, January 24, 2003, at Ferry Funeral Home, Nevada, MO, with Rev. Jim McCoy officiating. Interment will follow in Newton Burial Park. Friends may call now and until the hour of service at the funeral home.
