Robert R. Johnson
IRON MOUNTAIN — Robert R. Johnson, 77, of N 4303 M-95, Iron Mountain, died Wednesday, Aug. 22, 2001, at his home.
He was born April 9, 1924 in Iron Mountain, the son of the late Eric H. and Jennie (Hicks) Johnson.
He married Alva V. Carlson on June 7, 1947 at the courthouse in Iron Mountain. They shared 54 wonderful years together.
He worked at Lakeshore, Inc. for more than 30 years, retiring on Sept. 10, 1982. He was a lifelong resident of the area. He farmed for many years, raising Johnson’s strawberries. He enjoyed model railroading, gardening, camping, bus trips and barbershop quartets. He had a great love for nature and its animals. He was an avid woodworker, making many very special pieces for his children and grandchildren. He loved his family, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
He is survived by his loving wife, Alva; his children, Cheryl (Mike) Selmo of Iron Mountain, Robert J. (Sherry) Johnson of Iron Mountain, Gail (Dennis) Spigarelli of Iron Mountain, Dawn (Bob) Wolfe of Kingsford, Todd (Brenda) Johnson of Iron Mountain; eleven grandchildren, Allison Molter, Peter Selmo, Eric and Megan Johnson, Mark and David Spigarelli, Jeff Nelson, Paul, Patrick, Renee and Miranda Johnson; two great-grandchildren, Avery Nelson and Grace Molter; a brother, James (Dee) Johnson of La Habra, Calif.; a foster brother, Arthur (Dodie) Strutz of Waukon, Iowa; a special friend, Vera Carey of Sun Prairie, Wis.
Visitation will be Sunday from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. at the Erickson-Rochon & Nash Funeral Home in Iron Mountain.
The funeral service will be at 3 p.m. at the funeral home. Rev. David Anderson will officiate.
In lieu of flowers a memorial will be established in his memory.

You’re such a wonderful husband and dad, and we’ve shared so much life, so much laughter and love, that it’s really hard to imagine what things will be like without you. Yet those very memories that make it so hard to part from you are what I’m most thankful for.”

Edna Scott
IRON MOUNTAIN — Edna V. Scott, 87, of 1820 Mary’s Way, Kingsford, died Wednesday, Aug. 22, 2001, at Pinecrest Medical Care Facility in Powers.
She was born July 7, 1914, in Colfax, Wis., daughter of the late Sam and Caroline (Johnson) Iverson.
She married Elmer Scott in 1936 and he preceded her in death on March 31, 1997.
Mrs. Scott moved to Kingsford in 1953 and lived there until 1964, when she and her husband moved to Roseville, Minn. She returned to Kingsford in 1997.
Mrs. Scott was an active and devoted member in her church and church choir at Our Saviour’s Lutheran and Roseville Lutheran churches.
She was preceded in death by her son, Kenny in 1958.
She is survived by two sons, Mark (Margaret) Scott of Roseville, Minn. and Roger (Nancy) Scott of Kingsford; two brothers, Vernon (Jean) Iverson of Fort Meyers, Fla. and Kenneth (Marguerite) Iverson of Colfax, Wis.; a sister, Velma (Earl) Miller of Mesa, Ariz.; five grandchildren, Julie Scott, David (Reyell) Scott, Bill Scott, Desiree’ (David) Payant, and Kyra (Shaun) Pickett; and five great-grandchildren, Alex Scott, Audra and Eva Marie Pickett, and David and Tiffany Payant.
Visitation will be held Saturday from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. at Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church in Iron Mountain.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the church. Pastor Jerry Christesen will officiate.
Burial will be in Cemetery Park in Iron Mountain.

Josephine Barr
IRON MOUNTAIN — Josephine Barr, 91, of 704 5th St., Iron Mountain, died Wednesday, Aug. 22, 2001, at Maryhill Manor in Niagara, Wis.
Mrs. Barr was born July 10, 1910 in St. Louis, Mo. She was the daughter of the late Pete and Sophie (Kendzior) Nowak and had been a resident of this area since 1946 coming from Champion.
Mrs. Barr married Louis J. Barr on Sept. 5, 1931 and he preceded her in death on May 14, 1983.
She was a member of Immaculate Conception Church in Iron Mountain. Mrs. Barr enjoyed baking, canning, gardening, and was a great ravioli maker.
She is survived by two daughters, Lorraine (Duane) Tirschel of Iron Mountain and Louise (Donald) Lantagne of Keyes Lake, Wis.; two sisters, Vickie and Lottie, both of Poland; seventeen grandchildren, Brian and Duane Tirschel, Terry (Mark) Wiederrecht, Sue (Jay) Graber, Mark (Cathy) Lantagne, Sheila (Chuck) Henrichs, Lisa McMahon, Teresa (Jeff) DePas, Brenda (Bart) Wilson, Glenn (Michele) Lantagne, Scott Kerney, Michael Kerney, Bobby (Janet) Kerney, Jeff Kerney, Michelle (John) Pasinski, Danny (Jody) Lomax, Tami (Bill) Chilman; 29 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
She was also preceded in death by her son, Leon “Sonny” Barr; two daughters, Lottie Kerney and Linda Moore; a grandson, Dohn Lantagne; a granddaughter, Jill Tirschel; three great-grandchildren, Austin and Eastin DePas and Patrick Kerney; several brothers and sisters; and a son-in-law, Robert Kerney.
Visitation will be Tuesday from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. at the Erickson-Rochon & Nash Funeral Home in Iron Mountain.
Funeral services will be at 11:30 a.m. at Immaculate Conception Church. Msgr. James Kaczmarek will offer the Mass of Christian burial.
Burial will be in Cemetery Park.

Armenia St. Julianna
STEPHENSON — Armenia Theresa St. Julianna, 79, of Hermansville, passed away peacefully at home, Wednesday, Aug. 22, 2001.
She was born Sept. 15, 1921, to the late Dominic and Josephine (Busato) Cabianca in Hermansville.
She married Eval St. Julianna. He preceded her in death in January 1944 during active duty in the Battle of the Bulge in France.
On Sept. 4, 1948, Armenia married John St. Julianna in Hermansville.
She was a homemaker and very active member of St. John Neumann Catholic Church in Hermansville, a member of the St. Ann’s Society, and sang in the choir for 60 years.
Armenia enjoyed ceramics and was known to bring her spaghetti to every church, social and family function. Being a very giving person, and after her illness started, the hardest thing she had to accept was not being able to help and do for others.
Armenia is survived by her husband, John J. of Hermansville; two daughters, Christine (Mark) Crandall of Menominee and Sheila (John) Veraghen of Powers; four sons, Angelo “Butch” (Lila) of Gladstone, John Paul (Judy) of Stephenson, Jeffrey (Arnell) of Livonia, lower Michigan, and Robert (Kim) of Granger, Ind.; fourteen grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Armenia was preceded in death by a daughter, Josephine Linderoth; a brother; and three sisters.
Visitation will be Sunday, Aug. 26, 2001 from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. (Central time) at St. John Neumann Catholic Church in Hermansville. Mass of Christian Burial will be Monday at 9:30 a.m. at the church.
Burial will be in the Meyer Township Cemetery. Father Michael Vichich is officiating.

Ann Mashak
KINGSFORD — Ann M. Mashak, 95, of 1000 W. Sagola Ave., Kingsford, died Friday, Aug. 24, 2001, at Maryhill Manor Nursing Home in Niagara, Wis.
She was born Aug. 2, 1906, in Tyrone, Pa., daughter of the late Frank and Anna (Shomin) Eugate. She had been a resident of Kingsford for most of her life.
Mrs. Mashak worked as a cook for the American Martyrs Catholic Church in Kingsford for 18 years.
She married her husband, Matthew Mashak, on May 5, 1923. He preceded her in death on Dec. 3, 1984.
Mrs. Mashak was a member of American Martyrs Catholic Church, Daughters of Isabella, St. Anne’s Society, St. Barbara Society and American Martyrs Guild.
She loved to cook and especially loved spending time with her family.
She was also preceded in death by two daughters, Kathleen Sauriol and Marion McCarthy; four brothers, Frank, John, Michael and Joseph Eugate; three sisters, Mary Kane, Helen Bursic and Katherine DeShombo; two grandsons, Mickey and Greg Mashak; a daughter-in-law, Betty Mashak, and two sons-in-law, Tom McCarthy and BIll Sauriol.
She leaves two sons, Philip (Ann) Mashak of Kingsford and Bill (Wilda) Mashak of Iron Mountain; three sisters, Leona Sampson of Hawaii, Mildred Wright of New Jersey and Ruby Sandberg of Escanaba; 12 grandchildren, Dick Sauriol, Tana Allen, Danny Sauriol, Susan Johnston, Rick and Danny McCarthy, Cindee Simmons, Mark, Randy, Keith and Bruce Mashak and Karen Beauchamp; 32 great-grandchildren; 13 great-great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. today at Erickson-Rochon & Nash Funeral Home of Iron Mountain. The Daughters of Isabella will recite the rosary at 7 p.m. today at the funeral home and parish prayers will be offered at 7:30 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at American Martyrs Catholic Church in Kingsford. Fr. Joseph Gouin will offer the Mass of Christian Burial.
Burial will be in Cemetery Park in Iron Mountain.
Pallbearers will be Keith, Bruce, Brian, Travis and Mark Mashak and Robert Dallapiazza.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial will be established in her memory at American Martyrs Catholic Church in Kingsford.

Agnes Zuehlke
PEMBINE, Wis. — Agnes C. Zuehlke, 91, of W-9169 Holmes Junction Road, Pembine, passed away Saturday morning, Aug. 25, 2001, at Dickinson County Memorial Hospital in Iron Mountain.
She was born Aug. 19, 1910, in Oneida, Wis., daughter of the late Peter and Cynthia (Denny) Huff.
Agnes was a member of St. Margaret Catholic Church in Pembine.
She leaves five daughters, Barbara LaVine of Phoenix, Ariz., Agnes Moss of Pembine, Ann Bomberg of Pembine, Linda Holmes of Zion, Ill., and Lynn Cook of Pembine; two grandsons, Dolen LeVine and Todd LeVine; four great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; a nephew, and numerous nieces.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond Zuehlke, on Oct. 6, 1989; a daughter, Gloria Ostrander on May 20, 1986; two brothers and three sisters.
In accordance with Agnes’ wishes, there will be no visitation or services.
The family is being served by the Jacobs Funeral Home in Niagara.

Massimiliana Hanson
IRON MOUNTAIN — Massimiliana “Yana” Hanson, 75, of 316 Wilson St., Kingsford, died Saturday, Aug. 25, 2001, at her home.
She was born Oct. 13, 1925, in Duino, Italy, daughter of the late Massilmiliano and Leopolda (Leban) Leghissa. She moved to the United States from Italy in 1954.
Mrs. Hanson worked many years in the cafeteria at Breitung Township schools.
She was a member of St. Mary Queen of Peace Catholic Church in Kingsford and was very devoted to her faith.
Mrs. Hanson enjoyed playing cards and visiting nursing homes.
Yana was always willing to help others and was loved by everyone who knew her.
She married Jack E. Hanson on Oct. 11, 1953, in Duino, Italy.
She leaves her husband, Jack; three sons, Gene of Kingsford, Harry of Quinnesec and Don (Mary Jo) of Ada, lower Michigan; six sisters, Lidia Leghissa of Duino, Italy, Valeria Martinelli of Trieste, Italy, Sandra (Harry) DeFraine of London, England, Maria Grezar of Trieste, Italy, Umberta (James) Williams of Kingsford and Ramana (Mario) Ferluga of Trieste, Italy; two brothers, Massimo (Savina) Leghisse and Giovanni (Silvana) Leghissa, both of Duino, Italy; two grandchildren, Lauren and Tony, both of Ada, and many nieces, nephews and special friends.
She was also preceded in death by a brother, Guiseppe Leghissa.
Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Tondin-Ross & Freeman Funeral Home in Iron Mountain. Parish prayers will be recited at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
The Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Mary Queen of Peace Catholic Church in Kingsford. Fr. Paul Nomellini will celebrate the Mass.
Burial will be in Quinnesec Cemetery.

Robert Wells Sr.
KINGSFORD — Robert “Bob” Wells Sr., 68, of 572 Hemlock St., Kingsford, died peacefully Sunday, Aug. 26, 2001, at the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Iron Mountain.
He was born May 13, 1933, in Iron Mountain, son of the late Raymond and Mary (Burcar) Wells. He graduated from Kingsford High School in 1951
After graduation, Bob moved to Milwaukee for two years, where he worked as a crane operator. He then moved back to the Kingsford area after realizing that the “city life” wasn’t for him.
He married Sadie Millette on June 17, 1953, in Kingsford, the couple has three children.
Bob served in the Korean War from May 15, 1953 to May 13, 1955, when he was discharged on his birthday. He was stationed in Fort Lewis, Tacoma, Wash., for a year and then he was stationed in Seoul, Korea, where he worked as a vehicle mechanic for a year.
After Bob returned from Korea, he was employed at Grede Foundry of Kingsford for 20 years. While employed there he also worked as an auto mechanic at local garages. He retired in 1975, due to illness.
Bob was quick to smile and was very kind and good-hearted. He was a good friend to his children, grandchildren and great-granddaughters and always had a way of making them laugh through his “witty words of wisdom.”
He was a ham radio operator (KA8FMG) and participated in the POR rally’s until health problems prohibited him from doing so.
Bob was also an avid Green Bay Packer fan.
He loved watching and feeding the birds, chipmunks and squirrels from his deck.
Bob’s beloved dogs, Muffet and Dusty, preceded him in death and are now with their best friend.
He is survived by his wife, Sadie; a daughter, Cindy (Duane) Wender of Pine Creek; a son, Bob (Mary) Wells of Kingsford; a daughter, Jody (Glenn) Edlund of Crystal Falls; his grandchildren, Shawn Ellis of Quinnesec, Ryan Ellis of Pine Creek, Tony Wells of Kaukauna, Wis., and Jason Wells of Kimberly, Wis.; great-granddaughters, Ciara Ellis of Green Bay, Wis., Nikki Ellis of Quinnesec and Macala (Mack) Ellis of Pine Creek; two sisters, Rita (Art) Noel of Iron Mountain and Carol (Earl) Rauland of Kingsford, and aunts and cousins.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Joyce.
Although he will be sadly missed by all who loved him, his family is consoled that he is no longer suffering.
There will be no visitation.
A graveside memorial service will be held and announced at a later date.

Thomas Gray
MENOMINEE — Thomas Arthur Gray, 62, of 1705 24th Ave., Menominee, passed away on Sunday, Aug. 26, 2001, after a short battle with cancer and heart problems.
Tom was born on Nov. 13, 1938, in Iron Mountain, son of Barbara and the late F. Harold Gray. He graduated from Vulcan High School in 1956.
He served his country in the National Guard.
Tom was employed by Wangerin Trucking.
He was a member of First United Methodist Church in Menominee.
Tom loved camping and watching car racing.
He is survived by his wife, Eleanor Jane (Wills) (Bolander) Gray of Menominee; two daughters, Julie Anderla of Marinette, Wis., and Jody Spearman of Menominee; three stepsons, Rick (Crissy) Bolander of Vienna, Va., Todd Bolander of Sheboygan, Wis., and Scott Bolander of Omaha, Neb.; his mother, Barbara Gray of Iron Mountain; a sister, Beverly Moraska of Milwaukee; a granddaughter, Sydnie Spearman of Menominee; stepgrandchildren, Sean, Alicia, Ricky, Shelly and Christopher Bolander, and many nieces and nephews.
Friends may call from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Cadieu Funeral Home of Menominee and from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Thursday at First United Methodist Church in Menominee.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at the church. Rev. Phil Tousley will officiate.
Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery.
A memorial fund has been established.

Edwin Hirsch
NIAGARA, Wis. — Edwin “Mickey” Hirsch, 71, of N2142 U.S. 141, Iron Mountain, died Tuesday, Aug. 28, 2001, at his home.
Edwin was born April 16, 1930, in Milwaukee, son of the late Anton and Olive (Wilkens) Hirsch.
Edwin attended school in Gardner and graduated from Stephenson High School in 1948. He married the former Carla Olson on July 7, 1959, in Menominee.
Edwin worked for his father, Anton at Hirsch’s Family Restaurant in Gardner. Anton started Hirsch’s in 1929. In 1959, Edwin along with his wife, Carla, took over the restaurant and operated it until 1998 when they relocated to Iron Mountain and its present location.
Edwin was a member of the Daggett Lions Club. He loved his family and grandchildren dearly and will be missed by all his friends. Edwin enjoyed entertaining family and friends with his jokes and his accordion playing.
He is survived by his wife, Carla; a son, Michael Hirsch of Iron Mountain; a daughter, Tammy (David) Weinschrott of Green Bay, Wis.; a daughter-in-law, Pam Dahl of Norway; a brother, Donald “Red” Hirsch of Stephenson; three sisters, Ruth Payne of Menominee, Judy (Andy) Benson of Hubertos, Wis., Georgia (Jim) Hannon of Burlington, Wis.; three grandchildren, Joseph Hirsch and Laura and Lisa Filibeck; and nieces and nephews, Shirene and Raymond Lesperance, Karen Hirsch, Jeff and Sue Hirsch, Jeff Benson, Andrea and Kevin Kysely, Todd Hannon and Trina Hannon.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Rose.
Visitation will be held Friday from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Jacobs Funeral Home, Niagara Chapel. Funeral services will be held Friday at 7 p.m. at the funeral home. Celebrant Robert Fuse will officiate.

Elmer Groy
WAUSAUKEE, Wis. – Elmer Harold Groy, 70, well-known Beecher, Wis. resident, died Monday, Aug. 27, 2001, at Dickinson County Memorial Hospital in Iron Mountain.
He was born May 23, 1931, in Beecher, Wis., son of Max and Agnes (Werdermann) Groy Sr.
He married the former Delores Wartick on Aug. 30, 1952, in Niagara, Wis. Elmer farmed most of his life and was a self-employed logger, drove truck and school bus, and ran a gravel business for 37 years.
His one great hobby was draft horses, which he used in farming and giving hay rides. One of his favorite pastimes was to compete in local horse pulling contests. For the last nine years, he ran the Horse Shoe Country Club and enjoyed his men’s league pool team.
Elmer was also a member of Ranger City Riders Snowmobile Club. He served as a town supervisor for two years and as Beecher town chairman for 26 years.
He is survived by his wife, Delores; a son, Dan (Siri) Groy of Beecher; four daughters, Marilyn (Larry) Hoppa of Peshtigo, Wis., JoAnne (Rick) Yeager of Beecher, Susan (Kenny) Oja of Beecher and Julie (Dwight) VanKirk of Amberg; nine grandchildren, Allen, Tim, David, Jennifer, Daniel, Michelle, Anthony, Kara and Lisa; his sister, Helen Robertson of Aurora, Wis.; and Tony Schiefelbein of Pembine, who was like a member of the family.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Max Jr. and Leslie; four sisters, Selma Barker, Mildred Hilsabeck, Annie Holmes and Minnie White.
Visitation will be held Thursday from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Faith Baptist Church in Pembine. Funeral services will follow at 7 p.m. Rev. Doug Cheney will officiate. Burial will be in the Pembine Cemetery.
The Messar Funeral Home of Wausaukee assisted the family.

Peggy Dubey
IRON MOUNTAIN — Peggy Joyce Dubey, 75, of 1520 Oslo Ave., Iron Mountain, died Sunday morning, Aug. 26, 2001, at St. Vincent Hospital in Green Bay, Wis., after a brief illness.
She was born Sept. 8, 1925.
Peggy is survived by her two sons, Dan (Chris) Dubey of Ishpeming and Randy (Debbie) Dubey of Norway; a granddaughter, Michelle (Jeff) Muraro of Norway; and two great-grandchildren, Dante and Adrian.
Visitation will be held Friday from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Erickson-Rochon & Nash Funeral Home in Iron Mountain.

Violet Hartley
IRON RIVER — Violet Hartley, 88, of 50 Lincoln Ave., Iron River, died Tuesday night, Aug. 28, 2001, at the Iron County General Hospital.
She was born Dec. 5, 1912, in Winona (Copper Country), daughter of the late Richard and Mary Louise (Woods) Carne. She moved to Iron River as a child with her parents and graduated from Iron River High School in 1932.
She first worked as a dental assistant for Dr. Tyler in Iron River and then as a clerk in the offices of the former Montgomery Wards store. She had also been employed as a clerk at the former Erickson Tri City Drugs in Stambaugh.
Mrs. Hartley was an active member of the Wesley United Methodist Church in Iron River, where she had been an organist, choir member and past president of the United Methodist Women. She had also been a former member of the Stambaugh Home Extension Club and enjoyed doing craft work.
On June 17, 1944, she married Russell Hartley in Iron River and he preceded her in death on Feb. 6, 1993.
She was also preceded in death by a brother, Richard Carne.
She is survived by a daughter, Mary (Joseph) Little of Palm Harbor, Fla.; two sisters, Pearl (Sylvio) Polich of Iron River and Marie Andreski of Iron River; a brother, George Carne of Iron River; and two grandchildren, Jeffrey and Deborah Little.
Visitation will be held Friday from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Langenberg Funeral Home - Iron River Chapel. Funeral services will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at Wesley United Methodist Church in Iron River. The Rev. Jeff Rinker, pastor, will officiate. Burial will be in the Iron River City Cemetery.
The family suggests that memorials can be made to the Wesley United Methodist Church.
The Langenberg Funeral Home - Iron River Chapel is in charge of the funeral arrangements.

IRON RIVER — Mavis Manning, 81, of Iron River, died Tuesday evening, Aug. 28, 2001, at the Iron County Medical Care Facility.
She was born July 4, 1920, in Stambaugh, daughter of the late William and Amelia (Baker) Eddy. She graduated from Stambaugh High School.
Mrs. Manning has worked as a sales clerk at the former Erickson Tri City Drugs in Stambaugh and later at Jim’s Pharmacy in Iron River. She had also been a dance instructor.
On April 27, 1963, she married Jack Manning and he preceded her in death on Jan. 24, 1994. She was also preceded in death by a brother, William Eddy in World War II and by a sister, Mercedes LaBocki.
She is survived by a daughter, Lana Reichl of Iron River; a son, Jack (Mary) Cerasoli of Iron Mountain; seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held Saturday from 1 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. at the Langenberg Funeral Home - Stambaugh Chapel.
Funeral services will be held Saturday at 2:30 p.m. at the funeral home. The Rev. Charles White will officiate. Burial will be in the Resthaven Cemetery.

Benjamin Scroggins
IRON RIVER — Benjamin N. Scroggins, 83, formerly of Iron River, died Sunday evening, Aug. 26, 2001, in Appleton, Wis.
Mr. Scroggins was born June 29, 1918, in Thomaston, Ga., son of the late Benjamin and Mary (Burdett) Scroggins.
He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II, where he was involved in three invasions.
Mr. Scroggins later worked for the U.S. Coast Guard as a civilian employee for 30 years.
He enjoyed hunting, fishing and photography.
He was preceded in death by his first wife. He later married the former Isabelle (Forsten) Sleeman and she also preceded him in death, as well as a son, Joseph Scroggins.
He leaves two sons, Nicholas Scroggins of Britton, lower Michigan, and Benjamin Scroggins Jr. of Peterborough, N.H.; three stepchildren, Marilyn (Marvin) Lindbloom of Sturgeon Bay, Wis., Thomas (Connie) Sleeman of Fort Meyers, Fla., and Ruth (Louis) Rosetti of Neenah, Wis.; a sister, Jeanette English of Jacksonville, Fla.; five grandchildren and eight stepgrandchildren.
Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday at the Wichmann Funeral Home in Appleton, Wis., where funeral services will be held at 6 p.m. Rev. Dennis Episcopo will officiate.
Graveside services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Resthaven Cemetery in Iron River. Rev. John Fish, pastor of First Baptist Church in Iron River will officiate.
The Langenberg Funeral Home-Iron River Chapel is in charge of local arrangements.

Donald Dobbyn Sr.
SPALDING — Donald William Dobbyn Sr., 69, of W5577 129 W. 3rd St., Hermansville, formerly of Capac, lower Michigan, died Tuesday evening, Aug. 28, 2001, at the Veterans Medical Center in Iron Mountain, following a brief illness.
He was born on Nov. 28, 1931, in Detroit, the son of Donald and Mary (Daverau) Dobbyn, and moved to Capac as an infant. He graduated from Capac High School in 1949.
In 1949 he joined the US Navy and served through 1953.
On March 15, 1958, he married the former Christina Gunn Graham in Capac and she survives.
Mr. Dobbyn moved to the Upper Peninsula from Port Huron where he was employed by IBM for 20 years and purchased Rodmans Bar in 1973. He owned and operated the bar under the name Dobbyn’s Bar until 1984. He then worked as a carpenter until his retirement on Nov. 1, 2000.
He was a member of the American Legion Post 340 and 40 et 8 Voyager.
He is survived by, his wife, Christina Dobbyn; two sons, Donald (Kathy) Reis of Hermansville and Daniel (Tammy) Dobbyn of Lynnville, Tenn.; two step-sons, Edward (Cindy) Graham of Smith Creek, lower Michigan, and Michael (Pamela) Graham of Littleton, lower Michigan; two step-daughters, Glenda Smith of Port Huron and Donna (Terry) Gibson of Kirtlan, Ohio; a sister, Jean (Robert) Foster of Sandusky, lower Michigan; 13 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Services will be Monday morning for the family at the Allow Funeral Home Family Chapel in Spalding with the Rev. Elbert Dulworth officiating.
Friends, who wish, may make memorial contributions to the Hermansville Rescue Squad. Assistance with memorial envelopes is available at the funeral home.
The Allo Funeral Home in Spalding is in charge of arrangements.

Joseph Brey
IRON MOUNTAIN — Joseph “Joe” Brey, 49, of Sault Ste. Marie, died Wednesday, Aug. 29, 2001, at War Memorial Hospital in Sault Ste. Marie.
He was born May 27, 1952, in Kingsford, son of the late John and Margaret “Peggy” (Thomas) Brey.
Joe was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Sault Ste. Marie, where he was a CCD instructor. He refereed wrestling, soccer and football and umpired baseball and softball. He did In-Home Detentions for Chippewa County Probate Court and worked at the Alpha Bar for many years.
He is survived by his wife, Ellen Brey of Sault Ste. Marie; two sons, David Joseph Brey and Stephen William Brey, both at home; a daughter, Sharon Louise Brey at home; two brothers, Jack (Carol) Brey of Schaumberg, Ill. and William “Bill” Brey of Green Bay, Wis.; three sisters, Mary (Tom) Beatty of Kingsford and Susan Martin and Dot (Alan) Fulks, both of Iron Mountain; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts and uncles.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Visitation will be held Tuesday from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. at the Jacobs Funeral Home in Iron Mountain.
The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday at 11 a.m. at American Martyrs Catholic Church in Kingsford. Fr. Joseph Gouin will officiate. Burial will follow in the Quinnesec Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to the education fund for the Brey children through the Soo Co-op Credit Union, 536 Bingham Ave., Sault Ste. Marie, Mich. 49783 or Northwoods Airlifeline, P.O. Box 91, Iron Mountain, Mich. 49801.
The family is being served by the Clark Bailey Newhouse Funeral Home of Sault Ste. Marie and the Jacobs Funeral Home of Iron Mountain.
