Thomas Cowell
IRON MOUNTAIN — Thomas O. Cowell, 76, of Iron Mountain died Thursday, Aug. 30, 2001, at Dickinson County Memorial Hospital in Iron Mountain.
He was born Aug. 9, 1925, in Gladstone, son of the late Harvey and Nellie O’Brien Cowell.
He leaves his wife, Riva Cowell of Iron Mountain; two sons, John (Patty) Cowell of Iron River and James Cowell of Iron Mountain; a daughter, Kathy Cowell (Michael Bigelow) of Amasa; a brother, William (Delores) Cowell of Spread Eagle, Wis.; a sister, Margaret (Charles) Baker of Ft. Meyers, Fla.; three grandchildren, John (Cindy) Cowell Jr., Daniel (Tiffany) Marracini, and Patrick (Dana) Cowell; a great-grandson, Thomas Andrew Karvonen Cowell, and many friends.
A memorial service will take place at a later date.

Thomas Dzarnowski
IRON RIVER — Thomas S. Dzarnowski, 77, of Gaastra passed away Wednesday, Aug. 29, 2001, at the Iron County General Hospital in Iron River.
He was born March 7, 1924, on the family farm in Bates Township in Iron River, son of the late Stanley Sr. and Veronica (Jankowski) Dzarnowski. He attended the Bates and the Iron River Schools, graduating from Iron River High School in 1943.
He married the former Elizabeth Busakowski of Gaastra on May 11, 1946 at the Assumption Catholic Church of Iron River.
He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, serving with the 865th Engineering Battalion in the South Pacific, Philippines and New Guinea.
After his honorable discharge in October of 1945, he lived in Chicago for two years and then moved back to the local area where he was employed by the M.A. Hanna Mining Co. in the area mines for 17 years. He worked for a year in Greenland. He became the Gaastra postmaster in November of 1966 until February of 1980 and then was postmaster in Skandia from 1980 to March of 1986, when he retired.
He was an avid outdoorsman and gardner. He also enjoyed woodcarving and bowling.
He was a member of St. Cecelia Catholic Church in Caspian, Knights of Columbus, Iron River Elks Lodge 1671 where he served as exalted ruler from 1977 to 1978. He served as Iron County Commissioner from 1963 to 1967 and from 1986 to 1991.
He was also preceded in death by five brothers, Charles, Stanley, Peter, Ignatius and Paul, and three sisters, Katherine, Julia and Jennie.
He leaves his wife of 55 years, Elizabeth; six children, Dorothy (Kerry) Doyle of Gladstone, Mary (Randy) Bal of Linwood, lower Michigan, Delores (Jim) Bal of Simpsonville, Ky., Tom John (Roxane) Dzarnowski of Theriot, La., Janet (Pat) Hebert of Iron River and Kathy (Jim) Ferguson of Holland, lower Michigan; two brothers, John (Dolly) Dzarnowski of LaMesa, Calif., and Frank (Corrine) Dzarnowski of Iron River; a sister, Annie Nicholson of Crystal Falls; 12 grandchildren; a great-grandchild, numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. today at the Jacobs Funeral Home of Iron River. A liturgical prayer service will be held at 5 p.m. and the Elks Lodge of Sorrow service will be at 7 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Funeral services will be at 8:30 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home and at 9 a.m. at St. Cecelia Catholic Church in Caspian. Rev. Norman Clisch, pastor, Fr. Otto Sartorelli and Deacon Bob Kostka will concelebrate the Mass of Christian Burial.
The Westside Veterans Council will conduct military honors.
Pallbearers will be Ed Dzarnowski, Kerry Doyle, Randy Bal, Jim Bal, Pat Hebert, and Jim Ferguson.
Burial will be in Stambaugh Cemetery.

Eleanor Meyer
CLEVELAND, Ohio — Eleanor “Tommy” Thomas Meyer, 95, of Cleveland, Ohio, formerly of Michigamme, died Friday, Aug. 31, 2001, at Judson Park Retirement Community.
Mrs. Meyer attended Ohio University, where she was elected to Phi Beta Kappa and was a member of Zeta Tau Alpha Sorority. She also attended Cleveland College of Case Western Reserve University and was active for many years in the post retirement studies.
She lived in Glenmont, Ohio, for many years and taught school near Athens, Ohio, before moving to Akron, where she worked for Eaton Manufacturing Co. prior to her marriage.
She married Donald Weston Meyer and moved to Cleveland in 1939. Her husband was the president and founder of Truckstell Manufacturing Co. He preceded her in death in 1960.
She was a past member of Canterbury Golf Club, where her husband was president in 1959, and the Women’s City Club. Her love of learning led her to be very active for many years in the Cleveland Public Library’s “Great Books” group, to support the Cleveland Art Museum and the Cleveland Playhouse.
She had lived at Judson Manor since 1988.
She is survived by her daughter, Cynthia Meyer Goldberg of Pomona, N.Y.; two grandsons, Vincent Matal III of Raleigh, N.C., and Eric Weston Matal of Ponoma, N.Y.; three great-grandchildren, Megan Elizabeth Matal, Madison Heaton Matal and Sally Ann Matal.
Graveside services will be held Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. at the Lake View Cemetery.
Memorial contributions can be made in her name to the Cleveland Sight Center, attn: Macular Degeneration, 1909 E. 101st St., Cleveland, Ohio 44106.

Alan Aldegarie
CASPIAN — Alan Jon Aldegarie, 55, of Santa Barbara, Calif., formerly of Caspian, died unexpectedly on Saturday, Aug. 11, 2001, in Santa Barbara.
He was born Aug. 19, 1945, in Stambaugh, son of Zara (Zini) and the late Santo Aldegarie. He grew up in Caspian and graduated from the Stambaugh High School in 1963.
While in high school, he was part of the 1963 All Conference Menominee Range 1st Basketball Team and was named all-conference U.P. Player of the Year.
He entered the U.S. Air Force in 1963 and served until his honorable discharge in 1971 as a staff sergeant. He moved to Goleta, Calif., where he was employed as the chief of maintenance at the Dos Pueblo Ranch until 1992. He then became the head of security at the Radisson Hotel in Santa Barbara until his retirement earlier this year.
He was preceded in death by his father, Santo Aldegarie in September 1979.
He is survived by a son, Alan Jon Aldegarie Jr. of Los Angeles, Calif.; his mother, Zara Aldegarie of Caspian; two sisters, Louise Boele of Caspian and Joanne Aldegarie of Green Bay, Wis.; two brothers, Joe (Sandy) Aldegarie of Missoula, Mont. and Paul (Chris) Aldegarie of Iron River; and 24 nieces and nephews.
Graveside services will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. at the Stambaugh Cemetery. Rev. Fr. Otto Sartorelli will officiate. Members of the West Side Veterans Council will accord graveside military rites.
Immediately following the services, a memorial luncheon will be held at St. Cecelia Catholic Church in Caspian.

George Von Oepen
NEENAH, Wis. — George P. Von Oepen, 64, of 1230 Wild Rose Lane, Neenah, Wis., passed away at home in the presence of his loving family, on Thursday, Aug. 30, 2001, following a lengthy and courageous battle with cancer.
George was born Nov. 24, 1936, in Chicago, Ill., son of George and Pauline (Koopman) Von Oepen. He married Judith Ann Gehlhoff on June 16, 1962 at the Queen of Rosary Church in Rosemount, Ill.
George was employed by Crane Engineering for the past eight years until his retirement in 1999. He was also a member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Appleton, Wis.
George enjoyed gardening and was an avid reader of books on history and the Civil War. Most importantly he enjoyed his recent retirement, which allowed him more time to spend with his loving family, and additional time in northern Wisconsin in the great outdoors.
George is survived by his wife, Judy; two sons and daughters-in-law, David (Beth) Von Oepen of Jackson, Ala. and Philip (Kelly) Von Oepen of Rhinelander, Wis.; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Eileen (Paul) Angeli of Vadnais Heights, Minn., Suzanne (Scott) Sroda of Appleton and Jennifer Von Oepen of Little Chute, Wis.; seven grandchildren, Christina, Allison, Hannah, Brittany, Hayley, Molly and Matthew; two sisters, Sharon (Larry) Scharringhausen and Eileen (Lee) Burden; two nephews, and a niece.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at St. Mary Catholic Church in Appleton with Rev. Michael O’Rourke officiating.
Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday at the Kessler Funeral Home in Neenah where a prayer service will be held at 7:30 p.m. Additional visitation will be at the church from 10 a.m. until the time of the service.
Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery in Florence, Wis., where his heart truly belonged.
A memorial is being established.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to their gracious employers, who provided support and more importantly, the gift of time, which was used to spend with their loving husband and dad during his illness.

Thomas Uren
MANITOWOC, Wis. — Thomas W. Uren, 58, of 2415 Clark St., Manitowoc, Wis., died Thursday morning, Aug. 30, 2001, at Aurora Medical Center in Two Rivers, Wis. following a courageous battle with cancer.
He was born July 26, 1943, in Iron Mountain, son of the late Joseph and Beatrice (Peterson) Uren. Tom graduated from Iron Mountain High School with the Class of 1962. He then went to school at Lakeshore Technical College to become an electrician.
Tom served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War.
On Nov. 3, 1978, he married the former Mary Ann Gabrielson in Iron Mountain.
Tom was employed as an electrician at the Kohler Co. for 23 years and enjoyed his years working for Kohler.
He spent leisure time on the computer, going to their cabin up north and traveling.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Ann of Manitowoc; two sons, Edwin (Wanda) Hoes and Alan Hoes, both of Manitowoc; a daughter, Sue Ellen Hoes of Manitowoc; five grandchildren, Crystal, Heidi, Jay, David and Eric; a great-granddaughter, Cheyenne; two brothers, Robert (Betty) Uren and Jerry Uren, both of Iron Mountain; three sisters, Mary Lou (Frank) Warmuth of Kingsford, Betty (Larry) Olson of Neenah, Wis. and Sue (Jerry) Knutson of Kingsford; his faithful dog, Sam; and nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
Visitation was held Friday at the Pfeffer Funeral Home & Cremation Care Center in Manitowoc. A memorial service was also held Friday at the funeral home with Deacon Alan Boeldt officiating.
Burial will take place at a later date in Michigan.

Donald Uren
IRON MOUNTAIN — Donald L. Uren, 62, of 822 East I St., Iron Mountain, went to be with the Lord after a short illness on Monday, June 11, 2001.
He was born Feb. 27, 1939, in Iron Mountain, son of the late William F. and Margaret (Anderson) Uren.
He served in the U.S. Army in the military police in France.
He enjoyed bowling, the outdoors and hunting, and had a great love for music.
He was a member of Evangelical Covenant Church of Norway, where he was a member of the choir and the superintendent of the church Sunday School.
He leaves a son, Kevin (Christine) Uren of Marinette, Wis.; two grandchildren, Amanda and Steven; a stepdaughter, Lori Guy of Kingsford; a brother, William (Marie) Uren of Iron Mountain; five sisters, Janet (Duane) Lidbeck of Iron Mountain, Carol (Don) Schettler of Iron Mountain, Ann (Dave) Bolander of Kingsford, Linda (Wayne) Makela of Iron Mountain and Lita (Bill) Bengtson of Quinnesec, numerous nieces and nephews, special friends, Pastor Jim and Shelly Danielson, and many other friends.
Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday at Erickson-Rochon & Nash Funeral Home in Iron Mountain.
The funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Rev. James Danielson will officiate.
Burial will be in Quinnesec Cemetery.

Marie VanOss
IRON MOUNTAIN — Marie J. VanOss, 78, of Channing, died Saturday, Sept. 1, 2001, at Dickinson County Memorial Hospital.
She was born Aug. 29, 1923, in Sagola, daughter of the late Daniel and Laura (King) McGregor. Marie graduated from the Channing High School in 1941.
She married Floyd VanOss on Sept. 20, 1941. They were two weeks short of celebrating their 60th wedding anniversary.
Marie worked as a clerk for Bloom’s Grocery Store in Channing for many years. She was a member of Grace Presbyterian Church in Sagola. She was the church organist and treasurer for many years. She belonged to the Ladies Aide at the church. Marie was a former president of the American Legion Auxiliary, and a former member of the Milwaukee Road Women’s Club.
Marie loved her church, spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She enjoyed playing cards, knitting, crocheting, making afghans, cooking, baking, travelling, and the fishing trips to Canada that she and Floyd went on every year.
She is survived by, her husband, Floyd; a son, Gary (Barb) VanOss of Spread Eagle; three daughters, Joanne Orchard (special friend Ed Dennis) of Kingsford; Janet (Roger) Roell of Channing and Jeannie (Angelo) Bortolini of Green Bay, Wis.; a sister, Verna Dishaw of Sagola; 12 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
She was also preceded in death by a grandson, Robert Process; a granddaughter, Jennifer VanOss; three brothers, Austin McGregor, Earl McGregor, and Buddy McGregor; and a sister, Esther Bruette.
Visitation will be today from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Erickson-Rochon & Nash Funeral Home in Iron Mountain and on Tuesday from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. at Grace Presbyterian Church in Sagola.
Funeral services will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. at the Church. Rev. David Anderson will officiate.
Burial will be in the Channing Cemetery.
The grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
In lieu of flowers a memorial will be established for the Grace Presbyterian Church.

James Yunowich
IRON MOUNTAIN — James R. Yunowich, 56, of 1108 Cleveland St., Niagara, Wis., died Saturday, Sept. 1, 2001, at Dickinson County Memorial Hospital, after a gallant and courageous battle with cancer.
James was born on May 12, 1945, in Iron Mountain, son of Eugene and Clarice (Steeno) Yunowich.
He attended school in Niagara and graduated from Niagara High School in 1963. He married Elyce Mattson on Aug. 8, 1970, at First Lutheran Church in Iron Mountain.
They resided in Menomonie, Wis., and later Minneapolis. James was employed with Reynolds Industries Inc. in both Menomonie and Minneapolis where he was promoted to assistant manager. James, along with wife, Elyce, moved to Niagara in 1976. James worked for Scott Paper Co. in Niagara where he served as a sales representative. for 18 years.
After leaving Scott Paper, James took a position with the Niagara Area Credit Union as marketing developer from 1996 until 2000. Recently James was working with Bob’s Homes as a sales representative. A special thanks to Bob’s Homes whose compassion exemplifies what all employers should be.
James was an active member of First Lutheran Church in Iron Mountain, Niagara Area Lions Club for more than 20 years, Niagara Area Credit Union, Oak Crest Country Club, and served as Winter Olympics basketball coach.
James loved going to their river property for a leisurely boat ride. He enjoyed life with family and friends, golfing, going to camp, telling jokes, reading, writing, and cooking. He was totally devoted to his children and grandchildren.
He was an inspiration to all of us with his upbeat attitude and confidence of a cure and making, plans for a good future. He never gave up; he was so alive.
He was loyal and caring and much loved and a much respected man. He was a man of his word and was dedicated to every promise he made.
He is survived by, his wife, Elyce; a son, James Yunowich of Los Angeles, Calif.; a daughter, Jeanne (Paul) Jerks of Green Bay, Wis.; his mother, Clarice “Steeno” Yunowich of Niagara; his father and mother-in-law, Elroy and Denyce Mattson of Felch; a sister, Nancy (Ron) Marks of Oshkosh, Wis.; two grandchildren, Malcolm and Mackenzie Jerks; two brothers-in-law, Esley (Sharon) Mattson of Munising and Dennis (Gerry) Mattson of Iron Mountain; special friends, Linda Rostagno of Niagara, Rod and Marilyn Weist of Republic, and Diane Adams of Spread Eagle, Wis.; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father, Eugene.
Visitation will be Tuesday from 2:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. at First Lutheran Church in Iron Mountain.
Funeral services will be Tuesday at 3:30 p.m. at the church. Pastor Peter Jonas will officiate.
Burial will be in Niagara Cemetery.
A memorial will be established in James’ memory at a later date.
Pallbearers will be Rod Weist, Paul Martin, Dave Imeson, Michael Adams, Danny Steeno and Don Schroeder.
Honorary pallbearers will be Ron Marks, Esley Mattson, Dennis Mattson, Roger Adams.
The family is being served by Jacobs Funeral Home of Iron Mountain.

Mary Hinkley
IRON MOUNTAIN — Mary E. Hinkley, 81, of 1011 Prospect Ave., Iron Mountain, died Sunday, Sept. 2, 2001, at Pinecrest Medical Care Facility in Powers.
Mary was born Jan. 5, 1920, in Wrightstown, Wis., daughter of the late Dr. George and Jane (McCole) Goggins. She graduated from Nicolet High School in De Pere, Wis., in 1938.
She married Lyle Hinkley on June 3, 1944, at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Green Bay, Wis. They resided in Iron Mountain since 1946.
Mary was a member of St. Mary and St. Joseph Catholic Church in Iron Mountain and was very active in her church. She sang in the choir and served as an eucharistic minister for many years. She was also a member of the Knights of Columbus Auxiliary, Daughters of Isabella, and the Secular Order of Discalced Carmelites and the Iron Mountain-Kingsford Women’s Club.
She enjoyed traveling and was an avid bridge player.
She leaves her husband, Lyle; two sons, Thomas (Kathleen) Hinkley of Utica, lower Michigan, and their children, Joseph, Juliana and Genevieve Hinkley, and James (Cindy) Hinkley of Adrian, lower Michigan, and their children, Scott, Brian and Tim Hinkley; two daughters, Patricia Ann (Matthew) Szechtman of Glenville, Conn., and their children, Michelle and Aaron Szechtman, and Margaret Mary (Thomas) Posthumus of Portage, lower Michigan, and their children, James and Kristen Posthumus, and three sisters, Eulalia Thome, Beatrice (Tom) McKeough, and Dorothy (Rod) Crevcoure, all of Green Bay, Wis.
She was also preceded in death by two sisters, Catherine Sheridan and Georgianna Baker.
Friends may call from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. today at the Erickson-Rochon & Nash Funeral Home in Iron Mountain. Parish prayers will be recited at 4:30 p.m. today at the funeral home. The Daughters of Isabella will recite the rosary at 7 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home and at 10:30 a.m. at St. Mary and St. Joseph Catholic Church in Iron Mountain. Fr. Daniel Zaloga will offer the Mass of Christian Burial.
Her grandchildren will serve as pallbearers.
Burial will be in Cemetery Park in Iron Mountain.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Carmelite Nuns at P.O. Box 397, Iron Mountain, MI 49801.

Roland Bordeau
IRON MOUNTAIN — Roland Francis Bordeau, 82, of 1110 West “A” St., Iron Mountain, died Sunday, Sept. 2, 2001, at Dickinson County Memorial Hospital.
Visitation is tentatively set for Wednesday from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. at the Erickson-Rochon & Nash Funeral Home in Iron Mountain.
The funeral service is tentatively scheduled for 3 p.m. at the funeral home.

Carol Wickman
IRON MOUNTAIN — Carol Jean Wickman, 67, of 805 N. Kimberly, Iron Mountain, died Saturday, Sept. 1, 2001, at Dickinson County Memorial Hospital.
She was born July 15, 1934 in Niagara, Wis., daughter of the late Walter and Julia (Papera) Mattson.
Carol graduated from Felch High School in 1952. She then went on to marry Gerald Wickman on Nov. 22, 1952. She worked at Dr. Seigler’s office as the office manager for more than 20 years.
Carol was a member of First Lutheran Church.
She was a loving and compassionate wife of Gerald for 49 years. She was a devoted mother and grandmother, and had many special friends.
She enjoyed cooking, knitting and reading. She loved travelling to see her daughters and spending time with her grandchildren. She will be sadly missed by all that knew her.
She is survived by, her husband, Gerald; five daughters, JeriLynn (Paul) Busch of Appleton, Wis., Lori (David) Izzo of Ramstein, Germany, Patti (Jerry) Kingsbury of Littleton, Colo., Mary (Jim) Carlson of Iron Mountain, and Shari (Bob) Trepanier of Iron Mountain; four brothers, Ted (Fanny) Mattson of Williamston, lower Michigan, Jack Mattson and Jerry (Kaye) Mattson, both of Felch, Ron (Renee) Wicklund of Marquette; 12 grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
She was also preceded in death by a brother, Donald Wicklund (Ruth Ann).
Visitation will be today from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Erickson-Rochon & Nash Funeral Home in Iron Mountain.
Funeral services will be on Tuesday at 10 a.m. at the First Lutheran Church in Iron Mountain. Rev. Peter Jonas will officiate.
Burial will be in the Felch Cemetery.
A luncheon will be served at Zion Lutheran Church in Metropolitan following the burial.
Pallbearers will be Paul Busch, Jerry Kingsbury, Jim Carlson, Bob Trepanier, Doug Carlson, Rodney Theisen, and honorary pallbearer, Dave Izzo.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the American Heart Association or to the Dickinson County Memorial Hospital Foundation for its defibrillator program.

Otis Matlock
NIAGARA, Wis. — Otis “Russell” Matlock, 86, of W6336 County Z, Pembine, Wis., died Monday, Sept. 3, 2001, at Maryhill Manor Nursing Home in Niagara, Wis.
Russell was born Aug. 5, 1915, in Assumption, Ill., son of the late Lelah “Good” Matlock.
Russell came to Beecher, Wis. in 1917. He later moved to Niagara and graduated from Niagara High School. He went on to attend Teachers College in Stevens Point, Wis.
He married the former Hidegarde Krenn on Oct. 28, 1961. Russell was a school teacher and tax assessor for the town of Beecher for many years as well as a teacher in Pembine. He later worked for Louisiana Pacific and retired from there.
Russell was a member of the Presbyterian Church in Pembine. He enjoyed farming, hunting and fishing.
He is survived by his wife, Hidegarde; one brother-in-law, George (Jeanette) Krenn; three sister-in-laws, Ann Turppa of Niagara, Lois Krenn of Niagara and Florence Dupras of Niagara; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by two sisters, Mary Vankirk and Edna Dill.
Private family visitation was held.
A memorial service will be announced at a later date. Burial will be in the Pembine Cemetery.
The family is being served by the Jacobs Funeral Home, Niagara Chapel.

Alonzo Adair
SPALDING — Alonzo Joseph Adair, 90, of N15995 Main St., Powers, died Sunday morning, Sept. 2, 2001, at the Pinecrest Medical Care Facility in Powers, following a brief illness.
Private family services will be held at a later date.
The Allo Funeral Home Family Chapel in Spalding is in charge of arrangements.

James Kanyuh
FLORENCE, Wis. — James William Kanyuh, 70, of B31 Chapin Heights, Florence, died Sunday afternoon, Sept. 2, 2001, at the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Iron Mountain.
He was born Aug. 23, 1931, in Kingsford, son of the late George Francis and Theresa Frances (Bayerl) Kanyuh. He graduated from Norway High School in 1949.
Jim served in the U.S. Army from 1952 to 1954, serving in Korea.
His love for cars ignited his career around the Detroit area and in the automobile industry, culminating in owning and operating Grosse Point Collision in Detroit until 1978.
On Sept. 23, 1952, he married Laura Stuppnig, and they divorced in 1980.
He was a loving and dedicated brother, father, grandfather and excited to be great-grandfather.
Jim enjoyed his hunting and camp life and was affectionately known as the Road Hunter to his family.
He was a generous and considerate person with a great sense of duty.
Jim cherished his friends in Florence at Barb’s Cafe and at the Florence Senior Center, where he always was ready to give his weather forecasts.
He leaves two sons, Jim (Renee) Kanyuh of Waucedah and Andy (Patricia) Kanyuh of Brentwood, Calif.; two daughters, Lauri Hirzel of Miami, Fla., and Lisa (Sam) Trebilcock of Iron Mountain; seven grandchildren whom he cherished, Jason Kanyuh of Clinton Township, Shawn (Leah) Kanyuh of Eastpointe, lower Michigan, Sherry Kanyuh of Ironwood, Misty Trebilcock of Iron Mountain, Samantha Trebilcock of Iron Mountain, Krista Kanyuh of Brentwood, Kaela Kanyuh of Brentwood, Jamie Hirzel of Miami, and Leon Hirzel of Miami; soon to be great-grandson, Tyler James Kanyuh; five sisters, Gladys Baldukis of Racine, Wis., Bette Pipp of Iron Mountain, Luella (Bob Zigman) Ducharme of Iron Mountain, Patricia Sweet of Chicago and Theresa (Mike) Martin of Visalia, Calif.; three brothers, George Jr. (Sophie) Kanyuh of Norway, Kenneth (Joyce) Kanyuh of Iron Mountain and Bob (Snooks) Kanyuh of Iron Mountain, and many nieces and nephews.
Jim was also preceded in death by a sister, Dorothy LaRoux, and his former wife, Laura, on Aug. 23, 1993.
Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Wednesday at Jacobs-Lundholm Funeral Home in Florence. A veterans memorial service will be held at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
Funeral services will be at 6 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Fr. Michael Betley will officiate.
Refreshments and a time of fellowship will be held immediately following the service at the Iron Mountain Elks Lodge 700.
Burial will be in Cemetery Park in Iron Mountain.
Memorials may be made to the Florence County Department of Aging.
The family is being served by the Jacobs-Lundholm Funeral Home of Florence.

Eugene Engebosa
IRON RIVER — Eugene “Gene” Engebos, 67, of 416 Garnet St., Iron River, died Saturday, Sept. 1, 2001, at the Florence Villa Nursing Home in Florence, Wis.
He was born March 4, 1934, in Green Bay, Wis., son of the late Emil and Mathilda (Christens) Engebos, where he grew up and attended school
Gene served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and following his honorable discharge he returned to Green Bay.
He married the former Marilyn Kochynski on Sept. 30, 1969, and the couple moved to the local area in 1986.
Gene had been a former member of the American Legion and was an avid Green Bay Packer fan.
He had also helped with the Special Olympic programs in Green Bay, where he was also a former Boy Scout leader.
Gene’s life centered around his family, especially his grandchildren.
Because of a long extended illness, he had not been able to work for many years.
In addition to his parent, he was also preceded in death by a brother, Bernard Engebos.
He leaves his wife, Marilyn; two sons, Carl (Misti) Engebos of Burnsville, Minn., and Jason (friend, Wanda Pitts) Engebos of Green Bay, Wis.; two daughters, Christine (fiance, Peter Kaepp) Engebos of Bolingbrook, Ill., and Lisa Engebos of Iron River; a sister, Mary Ann Drew of Green Bay; five brothers, Jerome and Larry Engebos, both of Crivitz, Wis., Richard, James and Robert Engebos, all of Green Bay; five grandchildren, Lauren, Christian, Arianna, Ariel and Alex.
Friends may call from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday at the Langenberg Funeral Home-Stambaugh Chapel.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Rev. Thomas Wickstrom, pastor of First Lutheran Church in Iron River, will officiate.
Burial will be in Stambaugh Cemetery.
The Langenberg Funeral Home-Stambaugh Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
