James Hastings Niles, Sr.
Mr. James Hastings Niles, Sr., 78, died, Monday, September 25, 2000 in a nursing home facility in Lake City, Florida.
Mr. Niles was a long time resident of Ft. Lauderdale, Florida before moving to Lake City, Florida in 1987. Mr. Niles was past President of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, Local 759 in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida. He was employed by Florida Power & Light Company out of Ft. Lauderdale, Florida for 32 years. Mr. Niles was also in the U.S. Coast Guard and was a sports enthusiast.Mr. Niles was preceded in death by his wife JoAnn Niles in 1988.
Surviving are; one son, Jay Niles, Jr., Gainesville, Florida; two daughters, Leslie Hanley, Ft. Lauderdale, Florida and Linda Niles, Melrose, Florida; one brother, Robert Niles, Arlington, Massachusetts; one sister, Doris Kee, Woburn, Massachusetts; three grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Funeral Services for Mr. Niles will be held on Saturday, September 30, 2000 at 11:00 A.M. in the Sherrill-Guerry Funeral Home Memorial Chapel with Rev. James Brown officiating. Interment will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens, Lake City, Florida. In lieu of flowers, the family ask that Memorial Donations be made to the American Cancer Society.

Harold L. Buckner
Mr. Harold L. Buckner, age 73 died Wednesday, September 27th, at Vencor Hospital, Green Cove Springs, FL.
Born in Muskegon, MI, Mr. Buckner lived in Lake City for 11 years having moved from White Cloud, MI. A Protestant, Mr. Buckner was a Member of the Lake City Christian Church and will long be remembered for his devotion to his family and helpfulness to his neighbors. Mr. Buckner is survived by his wife of 40 years, Lynda Jean, 2 sons; Harold Eugene of White Cloud, MI and Byron Guy of Grand Rapids, MI, 2 daughters; Beth Renee' Belanger with husband Damian of Kingman, AZ and Marsha Kay Hopper of Lake City, 1 brother, Dohn Buckner of Muskegon, MI, 2 sisters; Mildred Bishop of Muskegon, MIzand Edna Carlson of Griffin, IN 5 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.
A memorial service will be celebrated for Mr. Buckner at the Lake City Chris-tian Church, Branford Hwy. on Mon-day, October 2nd at 7 P.M., Reverend Larry Holeton presides. The Buckner family requests that in lieu of flowers please make a donation to the charity of your choice.

Cleo Bullard Durrance
Cleo Bullard Durrance, 95, a resident of Lake City, Florida died Saturday, September 30, 2000 at the NHC Nursing Home Lake City after an extended illness.
Mrs. Durrance was a lifelong resident of Columbia County, Florida. She is the daughter of the late William Richard and Indiana King Bullard which were pioneers of the Deep Creek Community. She was a member of the Church of Jesu Christ of Latter Day Saints, Lake city and active in the Relief Society Organization of the church. She was proceeded in death by her husband William Oscar Durrance, one step son, William O. Durrance, one step daughter, Edna Vining Sandameyer and one grandchild, Cynthia Jenkins.
Survivors include seven daughters: Brenda and (Harry) Lovett, Lake City, Fl., Jean and (Ted) McRae, Lake City, Florida, Adell and (Bruce) Jacobs, Lake City, Fl., Algerene and (Hoke) St. John, Jacksonville, Florida, Cassie Bowles, Jacksonville, Florida, Foy and (Andy) Andrus, Pocatello, Idaho and Evelyn Way, Lehigh Acres, Florida; three sons, William Vernon and (Jenell) Durrance, Chula Vista, California, Leroy and (Virginia) Durrance, Honaker, Virginia, and Joseph O. and (Coni) Durrance, Bountiful, Utah. One step son Lewis and (Mae) Durrance, Orange Park, Florida. Thirty six grandchildren, ninety-five great grandchildren and five great great grandchildren.
Funeral services for Mrs. Durrance will be conducted Wednesday, October 4, 2000 at 11:00 A.M. in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints with the Bishop Terry Zierki, officiating. Internment will follow in the Memorial Cemetery, Lake City, Florida. The family will receive friends from 6-8 Tuesday at the Funeral Home. SHERRILL-GUERRY Funeral Home 616 S. George H. Williams
George H. Williams, age 75, a lifelong resident of Fort White died Friday, September 29, 2000 at North Florida Regional Medical Center.
Mr. Williams was a truck driver and a member of the New Beginning Fellowhip in Lake City.
Survivors include his wife, Marie Williams of Fort White, two daughters, Annett Bagby of High Springs and Betty Shephe of Bell; four ste-daughters, Robin Lillard of High Springs, Angie, Cason of Orange Park, Janet Wills of Ocala and Deanne Wilson of Newberry; a son Mark Williams of High Springs; and a brother, Willie Taylor of Kissimmee, 13 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 3:00 PM on Monday, October 2, 2000 at Mt. Horeb Church with Rev. James West, Rev. Arnold O"Steen and Rev. Forest Combs conducting the services. Burial will be in Mt. Horeb Cemetery under the direction of EVANS-CARTER Funeral Home, High Springs. Visitation was held on Sunday, October 1, 200 at EVANS -CARTER Funeral Home from 4:00 to 6:00 PM.

Esther Ruth Kennington
Mrs. Esther Ruth Kennington, 49, of Lake City died suddenly Thursday afternoon, Oct. 19, 2000, at Lake City Medical Center.
A native of Greenville, S.C., she had been a resident of Lake City for most of her life.
She was employed by Wal-Mart as a sales associate. She was a highly devoted mother of five and a loving wife for 31 years. Her hobbies included sewing, gardening and flowers. She loved to grow her own daylilies. She was a member of Hopeful Baptist Church.
Mrs. Kennington is survived by her husband of 31 years, Fariel B. Kennington; two sons, Fariel B. Kennington Jr. and Darrell Lee Kennington, both of Lake City; three daughters, Melissa Sellers (James) of Wellborn, Michelle McCauley (Scott) of Wellborn and Melinda Kennington Ward of Lake City; her mother, Rosella Robinson of Lake City; two brothers, Edward Robinson of Lake City and Earl Robinson of Jacksonville; two sisters, Earnestine Bennett and Cynthia Robinson, both of Lake City; and seven grandchildren, Brittanie Hunt, Angel Sellers, Cameron McCauley, Clay McCauley, Caleigh McCauley, Garrett Ward and Sarah Ward.
Funeral services for Mrs. Kennington will be 3 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 22, 2000, in Hopeful Baptist Church with the Revs. Paul Reed and Bobby Spivey officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6-8 p.m. Saturday. Wayne Claude Hurst
Mr. Wayne Claude Hurst, 52, of Lake City, died Saturday, Oct. 21, 2000 in the Hospice House, Gainesville, following an extended illness.
Mr. Hurst was a native of Lake City and attended schools in the Columbia County Public School System. Mr. Hurst worked for the Winn-Dixie Food Stores in Lake City and Madison and retired after serving 25 years from the Winn-Dixie Store in Monticello. Mr. Hurst was an accomplished wood and crafts worker and enjoyed fishing and the outdoors. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints of Lake City.
Mr. Hurst was preceded in death his father and mother, James Claude and Maude Green Hurst.
Survivors include his wife, Judy Marie Hurst of Lake City; one son, Don W. and Melissa Hurst of Mayo; one daughter, Rana Michelle and Jose Montoya of Lake City; four brothers, David and Leona Hurst of Byron, Ga., Jimmy and Jean Hurst of Archer, Tommy and Marie Hurst of Lake City, and "Curly" Earnest and Loretta Hurst of Orange Park; four sisters, Iris Bickel, Judy Watson, Martha and Jerry Hines, all of Lake City, and Kathy and Murray Reeves of Trenton; five grandchildren also survive: Suhailah Montoya, Sumiyah Montoya, Cheyenna Montoya, Joshua W. Hurst and Jenna A. Hurst.
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 24, in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints of Lake City, with the Bishop Pat Lightcap and Bishop Terry Zerkie of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, and the Rev. Don Hurst, Pastor of the Mayo Assembly of God Church. Internment will be in Ebenezer Cemetery, Columbia County. Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Monday, Oct. 23, at Guerry Funeral Home, 4309 South First Street, Lake City.

Rosa Darling McConnell
Rosa Darling McConnell, 92, of Lake City, died Friday, Oct. 20, 2000, at Shands at Lake Shore hospital.
She was the daughter of the late Sam Darling and Frances Nixon Darling and was the widow of the late Ivery McConnell. After moving to Lake City, she joined Olivet Baptist Church and later Trinity United Methodist Church, where she served faithfully until her health failed.
She leaves to mourn her passing three daughters, Lizzie (Jake) Hill, Vestella (Phillip) Jones of Lake City, Loretta (Raymond) James of Clewiston; one son, Willie (Jeanette) McConnell of Miami; one special, devoted granddaughter, Deadra (Todd) Filer; one special, devoted grandson, Travis Jones; devoted godson, David (Easter) Fudge; and a devoted niece, Rosa Lee Frazier, both of Lake City; one adopted daughter, Pauline Jackson of Lake City. She has 23 grandchildren, 63 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. She also leaves to mourn her death, many nieces, nephews, cousins and sorrowing friends.
Funeral services for Rosa Darling McConnell will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 28, 2000, at Trinity United Methodist Church with the Rev. J.D. Johnson, pastor, officiating. Interment will follow in Garden of Rest Cemetery. The family will receive friends Friday, Oct. 27, 2000, from 7-8 p.m. at Combs Funeral Home chapel.

Isaac I. (I.I.) Moody
Mr. Isaac I. (I.I.) Moody, 81, of Lake City, died Wednesday, Oct. 25, 2000, at North Florida Regional Medical Center, Gainesville.
Mr. Moody was a native of Bunnell, son of the late George and Bettie Miles Moody and resided in Lake City since 1945. Mr. Moody was a 1945 graduate of the University of Florida. Mr. Moody was employed by Florida Power & Light Co. for 35 years until his retirement in 1981 as division engineering manager. He was an avid golfer, a charter member of Lake City Country Club and a member of the "Over the Hill Gang." Mr. Moody was a member of the Lake City Lions Club, Morocco Temple, Lake City Shrine Club and was a Master Mason in the Gainesville Masonic Lodge, No. 41.
Mr. Moody was preceded in death by his wife, Freida Maxwell Moody.
Survivors include one son, Dr. Howard (Kathy) Moody of Tallahassee; one daughter, Nancy (Tom) Petillo of Denver; one brother, Leonard Moody of Alexandria, Va.; four grandchildren, Deanna Petillo Dean of Frostproof, Thomas Petillo of Mill Valley, Calif., and Melissa and Michael Moody of Tallahassee; one great grandchild, Jack Dean of Frostproof.
"Double I," as he was known to his many friends, had a kind of gentle spirit. Soon after his retirement from FP&L, the Lake City Reporter featured him in a Monday Profile. The article noted that his kindly eyes reflected a lifetime of dedication and sincerity, and that his manners tell stories of gentle concern. It concluded by saying he was "blessed with compassion, a good nature and humility, and that surely ŒDouble I' has touched many a person." He surely has.
Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, Oct. 28, 2000, at 10 a.m. at First United Methodist Church of Lake City with the Rev. Rob Atchley, church pastor, officiating. Interment will follow in Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends Friday, Oct. 27, 2000, from 5-7 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorial gifts may be made to the Lake City Lions Club Eye Sight Fund, P.O. Box 257, Lake City, Fla. 32056.

Mildred Gaskins Hull
Mrs. Mildred Gaskins Hull, 75, of Lake City, died Thursday, Oct. 26, 2000, in Shands at Lake Shore hospital following a long illness.
Mrs. Hull was a native of Florence, S.C., daughter of the late Robert Eugene and Addie McCutcheon Gaskins, and lived in High Springs for 45 years prior to moving to Lake City 10 months ago. Mrs. Hull had worked for Copeland Sausage Co., then as a cottage parent at Sunland Training Center. She was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include her husband, James Virtice (J.V.) Hull; two sons, Jimmy (Dorothy) Hull and Ellis Eugene Hull; one daughter, Vivian Glenn, all of Lake City; two brothers, Dexter Gaskins of Waltersboro, S.C., and Harold Gaskins of Live Oak; three grandchildren, Rhonda (Steve) Mailhos of Gretna, La., Connie Glenn and Kerri Hull, both of Lake City; two great-grandchildren, Nicholas and Emily Mailhos, both of Gretna.
Graveside funeral services will be conducted Saturday, Oct. 28, 2000, at 10 a.m. in Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens with the Rev. Thomas Bankston officiating. The family will receive friends Friday, Oct. 27, 2000, from 6 -8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Harry David Ferrell
Harry David Ferrell, 56, passed away at his home in Lake City on Sunday, Oct. 22, 2000.
Survivors include a son, Brian S. Ferrell, Ringo, Ga.; grandson, Chase J. Ferrell, Ringo, Ga.; sister, May Pearl Hobbs, Dublin, Ga.; dear friend, Judy Smith, Lake City; several nieces and nephews.
Private services were held Thursday, Oct. 26, 2000, in the Lake City Veterans Affairs Medical Center Chapel.

Edmond (Sam) Johnson
Edmond Lee (Sam) Johnson, 68, of Lake City, died Thursday, Oct. 19, 2000, at Lake City Veterans Affairs Medical Center ,terminating a brief illness.
He was the son of the late Ed and Catherine Coles Johnson and received his education in the public school system. He served his country in the U.S. Army from 1953-55 and was honorably discharged. He resided in Miami for many years, relocating in 1996 to Lake City. He was a member of Olivet Baptist Church, where he served on the Trustee Board.
Survivors include five sons, Ronnie (Arvinna) Johnson, Keith Johnson, Glen (LaChundra) Johnson Sr., Osmond (Karen) Johnson, Decarlis Johnson, all of Miami; one daughter, Towana Johnson, Miami.; eight grandchildren; devoted former wife, Cherly Johnson, Miami; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Funeral services for Edmond Lee (Sam) Johnson, will be 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 28, 2000, at Olivet Baptist Church with the Rev. Dr. H.M. Moss, pastor, presiding; Elder Connail Johnson, eulogy. Interment will follow in Huntsville Cemetery. The family will receive friends Friday, Oct. 27, 2000, at Combs Funeral Home chapel from 6-7 p.m.

Effie Margaret Bass
Effie Margaret Bass, 92, of Bell, died Wednesday, Oct. 25, 2000, at her home.
Effie was born in Bell and a lifelong resident, a homemaker and a member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church.
Survivors include her son, Arvey Bass, Bell; daughter, Minnie Philman, Lake City; 36 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren.
Funeral services for Mrs. Bass will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 29, 2000, at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church, Trenton, with the Rev. Don Wilke conducting the services. Visitation will be Saturday, Oct. 28, 2000, from 6-8 p.m. at Evans-Carter Funeral Home.
Burial will be in Jennings Lake Cemetery under the direction of EVANS-CARTER FUNERAL HOME, 220 N. Main St., High Springs.

Cecil Ratliff
Cecil Ratliff, 72, of Lake City, died Friday, Oct. 27, 2000 at his home after an extended illness.
Mr. Ratliff was a native of Cecil, Ga. and resided in Lake City for most of his life. He is the son of the late Paul and Mable Cowart Ratliff.
Survivors include a very special friend, Glenda Register, of Lake City; seven daughters: Janet Brett, of Stockton, Ga., Virginia Ratliff, of Lake City, Katie and (Ricky) Bass, of White Springs, Tina and (Leroy) Prince, of Live Oak, Rose Ratliff, of Lake City, Sara Ratliff, of Lake City, and Billie Jean Miller, of Keystone Heights; five sons: Red and (Cathy) Ratliff, Ricky Ratliff, James Ratliff, Robert Ratliff and Darrel Ratliff, all of Lake City; two sisters: Maude Hardee, of Live Oak, and Mary Burnette, of Lake City; one brother, David Ratliff, of Lake City; 22 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
Graveside funeral services will be Monday, Oct. 30, 2000 at 11 a.m. in the Prospect Cemetery White Springs, with the Rev. J.B. "Tank" Ogburn officiating. The family received friends from 2-4 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Sherrill-Guerry Funeral Home, 616 S. Marion St., Lake City is in charge of all arrangements.

Kenneth E. Bielling
Kenneth E. Bielling, 70, died Saturday, Oct. 28, 2000 in Gainesville, after complications of surgery.
Mr. Bielling was a resident of Micanopy. He served four years with the U.S. Air Force during the Korean conflict with one year in Korea. He met and married his wife while stationed in Oklahoma City, Okla. and moved to Micanopy in 1955. He retired after 25 years as a bus driver for Greyhound Bus Lines and was a member of the Greyhound Retirees Club. He was a volunteer at the Ronald McDonald House. He was very active as a Pioneer Partner in earlier years and for many years hosted the Crisis Center Volunteer Day. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Gainesville and was past president of the DOW Class. He was a world traveler and had many adventures with his wife.
Survivors include his wife, Billie Hale Bielling, of Micanopy; one daughter, Margaret and (Daniel) Gerard, of Micanopy; one son, Kenneth E. and (Lisa) Bielling Jr., of Gainesville; one granddaughter, Sarah Hale Gerad, of Micanopy; one sister, Gladys Bielling Bivins, of Providence; three brothers, Harold Bielling and J.A. Bielling, of Providence, and Bob Bielling, of Titusville.
Funeral services will be 3 p.m. Monday, Oct. 30, 2000 at the First Baptist Church, 425 West University Ave., Gainesville, with Dr. Enoch Booth officiating. Internment will follow in the Micanopy Historical Cemetery in Micanopy. The family will receive friends in the vestibule of the church after services. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The DOW Class at the First Baptist Church, 425 West University Ave., Gainesville, Fla. 32061. Arrangements are under the care of Milam Funeral Home, 311 South Main St., Gainesville.

Dr. John A. Marcello
Dr. John A. Marcello, 87, of Lake City, died Friday, Oct. 27, 2000 at his residence following an extended illness.
Dr. Marcello was a native of Boonton, N.J. and was the son of the late Joseph and Ernestine Marcello. He has been a resident of Lake City for the past 55 years. Dr. Marcello served at the state level as officer and National Convention Delegate in the State Chiropractic Association. He and his wife helped organize the Florida State Council for Senior Citizens in St. Petersburg and Senior Citizen Clubs in Jacksonville, Lake City and Live Oak. Dr. Marcello was awarded Florida's Chiropractic Associations Award of Distinction in 1973. On a local level, Dr. Marcello was active in Kiwanis, Knights of Columbus, AARP and CARC. He was very active with Clients of Tacachle, Gainesville. He was deeply involved with the Epiphany Catholic Church, Lake City, and was one of the first Chiropractors in Columbia County with his office being open from 1946-80.
Dr. Marcello was preceded in death by his wife, Adelaide Marcello, and one daughter, Jo-Ann Tyre.
Survivors include one daughter, Adelaide "Addie" and (Keith) Couey, of Lake City; three grandchildren, Keith and (Kelly) Couey Jr., Kevin and (Mary) Couey and Kason Couey, all of Lake City; two great-granchildren, Kyle and Kristah Couey, of Lake City; a very special friend of the family, Erma Dea MIllikin and his devoted caretaker, Charlie; one brother, Tony Marcello, of Boonton, N.J.; three sisters, Theresa Oshonka, Mary Works and Dolly Payack of Boonton, N.J.; as well as many loving nieces and nephews.
Private funeral services will be at a later date. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Monday, Oct. 30, 2000 at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice of North Central Florida, 1900 Florida Gateway Ctr. Blvd., Lake City, Fla. 32024, Meals on Wheels, Lake City, or to CARC of Columbia County. Martha Barnes Cowar
Martha Barnes Coward,d 71, of Lake City, died Friday, Oct. 27, 2000, in the Hospice House of Gainesville, following a long illness.
Mrs. Coward was a native of Houston, Texas, daughter of the late Arthur and Beulah Ayers Barnes and resided in Lake City since 1986, having moved here from Seymour, Tenn. Mrs. Coward worked for many years as an executive secretary for Eastern Airlines. She was a member of the Order of Eastern Star, Miami Springs, and a member of the First United Methodist Church of Lake City.
Survivors include her husband, D.E. Coward, of Lake City; one son, Walt (Cathy) Coward, of Sylvester, Ga.; one daughter, Carol (John) Baum, of Hialeah; six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren also survive.
Funeral services were conducted Sunday, Oct. 29, 2000 at 2 p.m., in the chapel of Guerry Funeral Home with the Rev. Keith Coward officiating. Internment followed in Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts should be made to Hospice of North Florida, 1900 Gateway Blvd., Lake City, Fla. 32055. Ada Belle Cain Herb
Ada Belle Cain Herb, 90, a lifetime Columbia County (Fort White) resident, died Friday, Oct. 27 at Shands at Lake Shore hospital in Lake City.
She was a member of Elim Baptist Church.

Julian P. 'J.P.' Green
Mr. Julian P. "J.P." Green, 84, of Lake City, died Sunday, Oct. 29, 2000, at his home following a long illness.
Mr. Green was a native and lifelong resident of Lake City, son of the late George W. and Arrie Bullard Green. Mr. Green graduated from Columbia County schools, was a medic in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II, helping to bring the wounded back after the bombing of Pearl Harbor. Mr. Green worked as a nursing aide at Lake City Veterans Affairs Medical Center until his retirement in 1972. Mr. Green was an accomplished musician and was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include his wife, Delvine Riggs Green of Lake City; six sons, Jerry (Laura) Green of Issaquich, Wash., Kenneth (Meriba) Green, Mike (LeaAnne) Green, Chris (Dyan) Green, Jonathan (Becky) Green, all of Lake City, and Stephen (Lisa) Garland of Jacksonville; three daughters, Maurine (Philip) Niswander and Tracy (Scott) Mathews, both of Lake City, and Teresa (Pat) Gabriele of Tallahassee; two brothers, Jack (Lavoris) Green and Calvin (Ruby) Green, both of Lake City; four sisters, Elsie North, Fannie Barton, Nellie Coffee and Violet (Sam) Seay, all of Lake City. Twelve grandchildren and one great-grandchild also survive.
Funeral services will be conducted Thursday, Nov. 2, 2000, at 2 p.m. at Southside Baptist Church, with the Rev. Mike Brown, church pastor, officiating. Interment will follow in Corinth Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts should be made to Hospice of North Central Florida, 1900 Florida Gateway Blvd., Lake City, Fla. 32055.

Jessie Mae Drawdy
Mrs. Jesse Mae Drawdy, 86, resident of Lake City, died Tuesday, Jan. 30, 2001, at her home, following a long illness.
Mrs. Drawdy was a native of Tarver, Ga., daughter of the late Holcomb and Vernie Hamilton Clayton, and had resided in Lake City since 1934. Mrs. Drawdy was a homemaker and a member of the Lake City Church of God. She was the widow of the late Lawrence Drawdy.
Survivors include two sons, Jerry (Helen) Drawdy, of Starke, and Eugene (Linda) Drawdy of Lake City; six daughters, Mary (Hubert) Hurst, of Darien, Ga., Carolyn (Theodore) Davis, Shirley Hathaway, Lillian (Wayne) Myers, Wanda (Kenny) Williams and Lynn McCollum, all of Lake City; one brother, James (Marie) Clayton, of Lake City; three sisters, Louise Weeks, Inez (Spencer) Wallace, and Mae Register, all of Lake City. Twenty-nine grandchildren and 92 great and great-great-grandchildren also survive.
Funeral services will be conducted Friday, Feb. 2, 2001, at 2 p.m. in the North Lake City Church of God, with Rev. Doyle Williams officiating and Rev. Lonnie Johns and Rev. J. Mark Johns assisting. Interment will follow in Memorial Cemetery. The family will receive friends, Thursday, Feb. 1, 2001, from 6 to 8 p.m., at the funeral home. Katherine Wheeler Dykas
Katherine Dykas, 72, died at her home Saturday in Zephyrhills, Fla.
Mrs. Dykas, a native of Columbia County, was the daughter of the late Marvin and Della Spradley Wheeler. Mrs. Dykas was retired from Krafts in Lakeland. She was a member of Calvary Assembly of God Church in Dade City.
Mrs. Dykas is survived by two sons, Ted Dykas and Pete Dykas of Richland; two daughters, Shirley Parker of Lakeland, Judy Harris of Richland; two brothers, C. A. Wheeler of White Springs, James Wheeler of Pensacola; seven sisters, Eunice Cravey, Sanderson, Thelma Chauncey, Kathleen, Dorothy Johnson, Betty Stumph, June Walker, Charlotte Collins, Alice Anderson, all of Lake City; 15 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren. Mrs. Dykas was preceded in death by a brother, Marvin Wheeler.

Georgia Carver
Mrs. Georgia Carver, 72, of Lake Wales died early Sunday morning, Feb. 4, 2001, in Lakeland Medical Center.
A native of Statenville, Ga., Mrs. Carver lived in both Lake City and Lake Wales during the past 10 years. Mrs. Carver was preceded in death by her husband, Lester Carver Sr., in 1989 and her son J.B. Carver in 1996.
Mrs. Carver is survived by one son, Lester Carver Jr., Lake City; three sisters, Mrs. Bessie Hendricks, Fort Pierce, Gladys Waters and Mamie Driggers, both of Lake Wales; and two grandchildren.
Graveside funeral services will be conducted at 3 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 7, 2001, in the Corinth Church Cemetery with the Rev. Jerry Tyre officiating. Interment will follow.

Emma Verlena Castillo
Emma Verlena Castillo, 74, of Lake City died Monday, Feb. 5, 2001, at Lake City Medical Center.
Mrs. Castillo had lived in Lake City since 1947 and was a member of Southside Baptist Church, where she was a former Sunday school teacher. Mrs. Castillo was also a member of the Lake City Council of Aging and enjoyed gardening and taking care of shut-ins at church.
Mrs. Castillo is survived by her husband of 59 years, Herbert C. Castillo, Lake City; one son, William Jack Castillo Sr., Lake City; two daughters, Patricia Ann Couch and Helen Louise Morgan, both of Lake City; four brothers, Jasper Prince, Lake City, Robert Prince, Live Oak, Elijah Prince, Woodland, Ga., Mark Prince, Warm Springs, Ga.; five sisters, Louise Conner, Lake City, Betty Jo Merchant, Meiges, Ga., Juanita Darley, Lake City, Naomi Roland, Donnellson, Ga., and Rosa Power, Moultrie, Ga.; nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Funeral services for Mrs. Castillo will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 7, 2001, at Southside Baptist Church with the Rev. Mike Brown officiating. Interment will follow in Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 5-8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Vera L. Frost
Mrs. Vera L. Frost, 84, of Lake City died early Tuesday, Feb. 6, 2001, at Lake City Medical Center following a brief illness.
A native of Goodwater, Saskatchewan, Canada, Mrs. Frost had been a resident of Lake City since 1979, having moved here from Fort Lauderdale. Mrs. Frost was a retired bookkeeper, having worked for a private school. Mrs. Frost began volunteering at Lake City Medical Center following her retirement. She ran the gift shop as a volunteer for a total of 10,000 hours, a goal she was very proud and honored to achieve. Mrs. Frost was a member of Senior Friends and she attended the Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church.
Mrs. Frost is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Susan and Harold Scott; her grandchildren, Mark Scott and Heather Scott; and a dear friend, Wilhemina Hearne, all of Lake City.
Funeral services for Mrs. Frost will be conducted at 3 p.m. Friday, Feb. 9, 2001, in the Biggs Memorial Chapel. Interment will follow in Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5-7 p.m. Thursday. Arrangements are under the direction of BIGGS FUNERAL HOME, 3801 S. First St., Lake City.

Florence Kight
Florence Kight, 66, of Perry, Ga., died Sunday, Feb. 4, 2001, at Perry Houston County Hospital, Perry.
Mrs. Kight, a native of Watertown, had resided in Houston County for 29 years, moving from Lake City. She was a homemaker and a member of Rehoboth Baptist Church in Perry.
Survivors include her husband, Vernon T. Kight of Perry; sons, Michael Kight of Durham, N.C., David Kight of Perry and Paul Kight of Warner Robins, Ga.; brother, Kenneth Disbrow of Lake City; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 7, 2001, at Rehoboth Baptist Church with the Rev. Keith Ivey officiating. Burial will be Wednesday, Feb. 7, 2001, in the Andersonville National Cemetery in Andersonville, Ga. Visitation was from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 6 at Watson-Hunt Funeral Home. Alma Goins Hurst
Mrs. Alma Goins Hurst, 59, of Lake City died Wednesday, Feb. 7, 2001, at her home following a long illness.
Mrs. Hurst was a native of Chattanooga, Tenn., and had resided in Lake City for the past 41Ž2 years, having moved here from Jacksonville. She was a homemaker and a member of North Lake City Church of God.
Survivors include her husband, the Rev. Marville B. Hurst of Lake City; two sons, Anthony L. Hurst of Lake City and Timothy D. Hurst of Chattanooga; one daughter, Marva J. Hurst of Lake City; one brother, John Goins of Lafayette, Ga.; five sisters, Charlesy Grows, Sandy Owensby, Marilyn York, Linda Hass and Joyce Hass, all of Chattanooga; five grandchildren, Racheal E. Hurst, Sarah R. Hurst, Justin R. Hurst, Brandon M. Hurst and Heather M. Hurst, all of Middletown, Ohio.
Funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Friday, Feb. 9, 2001, in the North Lake City Church of God with the Rev. Jerry Irwin, pastor of the Harvest Church of God, Anniston, Ala., officiating, and the Rev. Carl Hart, state overseer of the Church of God of South Georgia, assisting. Barbara Brannon Moye
Mrs. Barbara Luriese "Reese" Brannon Moye, 61, of Lake City died Tuesday, Feb. 6, 2001, in Lake City Medical Center following a long illness.
Mrs. Moye was a native of Lake City, daughter of the late Ralph and Thelma Brannon and had resided in Lake City most of her life. She was a graduate of Columbia High School, class of 1957, and was a member of Southside Baptist Church. Mrs. Moye was a licensed practical nurse, and had worked for 20 years at Lake City Veterans Affairs Medical Center until her retirement in 2000.
Survivors include one son, Ray (Kelly) Moye of Huntsville, Ala.; one daughter, Sheila Moye of Live Oak; three grandchildren, Belinda, Amanda and Nathan Moye, all of Huntsville; one sister-in-law, Jackie Brannon of Lake City.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday, Feb. 9, 2001, in the Southside Baptist Church with the Rev. Mike Brown, church pastor, officiating. Interment will follow in Memorial Cemetery, Lake City. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 8, 2001, at the funeral home. George Barber Jr.
George Barber Jr., 66, of Lake Butler, formerly of Lake City, died Saturday, Jan. 27, 2001, at his residence.
He was born in Columbia County on Feb. 20, 1933, to the late Mr. and Mrs. George L. and Dora Coney Barber. Mr. Barber was a member of Zion Hill Baptist Church in Lake City and a farmer.
Survivors include a devoted and loving daughter, Debra Barber of Gainesville; stepfather, Everett Jefferson of Lake Butler; two sisters, Lillian George of Lake Butler and Merle Barber Knight of Gainesville; brothers, Rufus Jefferson of Lake Butler; aunt, Annie Maude Thomas of Wellborn; brother-in-law, Johnny George of Lake Butler; sister-in-law, Pinkie L. Barber of Lake City; three stepchildren, Elaine Parker, Dennis Roberson and Tommy Robinson, all of Gainesville; five grandchildren, Neal Barber, Tasha Barber, Miranda Alford, Keyna Barber and Junita Barber, all of Gainesville; devoted friend, Linda Campbell of Lake Butler; 10 great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and sorrowing friends.
Preceding him in death were two brothers, Daniel Barber of Lake City and Paul Barber of Lake Butler.
The family will receive friends from 6-7 p.m. Friday, Feb. 9, 2001, at Caesar's Funeral Home. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 10, 2001, at the Community Revival Center on North Patterson Street with the Rev. Leo Fleming officiating. Interment will follow in Garden of Rest Cemetery in Lake City.

Henry Sheppard Sr.
Henry Sheppard Sr. of Southwest General Avenue, State Road 47, Fort White, died Saturday, Feb. 3, 2001, at Ven Cor Hospital in Green Cove Springs after an extended illness.
Mr. Sheppard was a longtime pioneer, farm and public worker. Services for Mr. Sheppard will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 10, 2001, at Macedonia AME Church of Fort White, with the Revs. Leonard Cason, pastor, and Phoenix Aaron delivering the eulogy.
Burial will be in the Bethlehem Community Cemetery of Fort White under the care of MR. CHARLES T. HALL FUNERAL HOME, 620 S.W. Houston Ave., Live Oak.
Mr. Sheppard will repose from 5-9 p.m. Friday, Feb. 9, 2001, in the Charles T. Hall memorial chapel and from 12:30 p.m. until the hour of the service Saturday. The cortege will form at 1 p.m. at Mr. Sheppard's residence.

Clarence (James) Troupe
Clarence (James) Troupe, 68, of Lake City died Wednesday, Jan. 31, 2001, at North Florida Regional Hospital following a brief illness.
Born in Uvaldia, Ga., he attended public schools in Uvaldia.
Survivors include his mother, Jannie Troupe of Cleveland; son, the Rev. C. Kenneth Troupe (Leatha); grandson, Clarence Troupe Jr., all of Lake City; six sisters, Deloris Hayes (Willie) of Vidalia, Ga., Mary of Hartford, Conn., Minnie Bell of Knoxville, Tenn., Sarah Lee of St. Augustine, Dora Lee and Lara Lee, both of Cleveland; brother, George Mincy of Cleveland; three aunts, Jauntte Roundtree, Zada Lee, Alice Bradley (Rev. Ernest Bradley), all of Albany, Ga.; two uncles, Clifford Troupe and Willie Troupe, both of Vidalia; very dear and loving friend, Louise "Ms. Hun" Harris of Lake City; godson, Roosevelt Lake Jr. of Jacksonville; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Services for Mr. Troupe will be 1 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 10, 2001, at New Bethel Baptist Church with the Rev. Alvin Baker, pastor, and Elder Henry Brown, eulogy. Interment will follow in Garden of Rest Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6-7 p.m. Friday, Feb. 9, 2001, at Combs Funeral Home chapel.

Johnny B. Hollingsworth
Mr. Johnny B. Hollingsworth, 72, of High Springs passed away Saturday, Feb. 10, 2001, at North Florida Regional Medical Center in Gainesville following a brief illness.
He was a native of Fort White, having moved to High Springs in 1961 from Fort White. He was a member of First Baptist Church High Springs and was retired from CSX Railroad.
Survivors include his wife, Belinda Thomas Hollingsworth of High Springs; one son, Randy "Gator" Hollingsworth of High Springs; one daughter, Vicki Swick of High Springs; three grandchildren, Tibbs and Amanda Swick and Jacob Hollingsworth.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday, Feb. 12 at First Baptist Church in High Springs with Dr. Ron Huggins, Dr. Eddie Gandy and the Rev. Morris Beck officiating. Burial will be in the High Springs Cemetery under the direction of EVAN-CARTER FUNERAL HOME of High Springs.

Eva Mildred Tomlinson Ellis Stevens
Mrs. Eva Mildred Tomlinson Ellis Stevens, 83, of Lake City died late Friday evening in The Health Center nursing home in Lake City following a lengthy illness.
A native and lifelong resident of Columbia County, Mrs. Stevens was the daughter of the late Floyd and Matilde Terrell Tomlinson. She was a homemaker and a member of the North Lake City Church of God. Mrs. Stevens loved to fish and crochet. Mrs. Stevens was preceded in death by her husband, Ben Ellis, and a son Dewey Ellis.
Mrs. Stevens is survived by a son, Paul Ellis (Pat) and a daughter, Margaret Adams, both of Lake City. Ten grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren also survive.
Funeral services for Mrs. Stevens will be conducted at 11 a.m., Tuesday, Feb. 13, 2001, in the North Lake City Church of God with the Rev. Barney Hurst officiating. Interment will follow in Memorial Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6-8 p.m. Monday. Arrangements are under the direction of BIGGS FUNERAL HOME, 3801 S. First St., Lake City.
