Ralph E. Whorton
Mr. Ralph E. Whorton, 82, of Lake City, died Friday, Feb. 9, 2001, at his residence following an extended illness.
Mr. Whorton was a native of Ringold, Texas and had resided in Gainesville, Texas, before moving to Lake City in 1983. He was the son of the late Charlie and Pearl Davis Whorton and the widower of the late Jewell M. Whorton. He was employed in the maintenance department of Idaho Timber Co. in Lake City for nine years until his retirement in 1999. He was an Army veteran of World War II, a member of the 142nd Infantry 36th division with service in Rome and Naples, Italy. He received several medals and bronze stars and was honorably discharged from the Army and National Guard. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion of Lake City.
Survivors include his daughter, Billye T. Myrick of Lake City; his sister, Wilda Bartlett of Idalou, Texas; his brother, Charles Whorton of Idalou; four grandchildren, Carole Strickland of Roswell, Ga., Thomas Myrick of Green Bay, Wis., Dolph Myrick of Albermarle, N.C. and Jody Myrick of Lake City; 10 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren, his friend and companion, Blanche McNeal of Thomasville, Ga. Numerous other relatives and friends also survive.
Funeral services will be conducted at 4 p.m. Monday, Feb. 12, in the Chapel of Guerry Funeral Home with Chaplain Larry Geiger of the Hospice of North Central Florida officiating. Entombment will be in Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens, Lake City. GUERRY FUNERAL HOME, 4309 S. First St., Lake City. The family wishes to thank Hospice of Lake City for their support and requests any memorial donations be made to Hospice of North Central Florida, Lake City.

Donald Glass
Mr. Donald Glass, 67, of Lake City died early Monday morning, Feb. 12, 2001, in Lake City Veterans Affairs Medical Center following an extended illness.
A native of Lakeland, Mr. Glass had been a resident of Lake City since 1995. Mr. Glass retired in 1995 from Orange Bowl Trucking Co. after 30 years of service as a long-distance truck driver. Mr. Glass was a veteran of World War II, having served in the U.S. Navy. He was of the Baptist faith. Mr. Glass enjoyed horseback riding, fishing, reading and sports.
Mr. Glass is survived by two sons, Donald "Sonny" Glass (Sherry) and Scott Glass (Marie), both of Tampa; a daughter, Ginger Fields (Denny) of Zephyrhills; his mother, Jewel Glass of Lake City; two sisters, Pat Nail (Buddy) of Lake City and Agnes Harris (Morris) of Newport News, Va.; four grandchildren and one great-granddaughter. Mr. Glass was preceded in death by his father, Hayward Glass.
Graveside funeral services for Mr. Glass will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday, Feb. 16, 2001, in Florida National Cemetery, Bushnell, with the Rev. J.B. "Tank" Ogburn officiating. Private family visitation services were held.

Eva Stevens
Mrs. Eva Mildred Tomlinson Ellis Stevens, 83, of Lake City died late Friday evening, Feb. 9, 2001, in The Health Center nursing home in Lake City following a lengthy illness.
A native and lifelong resident of Columbia County, Mrs. Stevens was the daughter of the late Floyd and Matilde Terrell Tomlinson. She was a homemaker and member of North Lake City Church of God. Mrs. Stevens loved to fish and crochet. Mrs. Stevens was preceded in death by her husband, Ben Ellis, and a son, Dewey Ellis.
Mrs. Stevens is survived by a son, Paul Ellis (Pat) of Lake City; daughter, Margaret Adams of Lake City; special friends, William "Bill" Hunter of Live Oak and Linda Walker of Lake City; 10 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services for Mrs. Stevens will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 13, 2001, in North Lake City Church of God, with the Rev. Barney Hurst officiating. Interment will follow in Memorial Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6-8 p.m. Monday.

Donald 'Don' Euart Witt
Donald "Don" Euart Witt, 50, of Orange Park died at his home Friday, Feb. 9, 2001.
Don was born Thursday, June 8, 1950, in Lake City. He graduated from Maynard Evans High School, Orlando, in June 1968 and received his bachelor of arts degree from the University of Central Florida in 1973. Donald devotedly served the state Department of Corrections for 25 years. He received two Employee of the Year awards, and at his retirement was honorably recognized and commended by the governor and Cabinet for the experience and expertise he brought to the Florida Parole Commission. He was a member of the Florida Council on Crime and Delinquency and the Florida Sheriffs Association. Don married Karen Zimmerman Witt in April 1974 and their beloved son, Ryan Euart Witt, was born in May 1981.
Don ardently pursued his life with pride and perfection. He was an exceptionally skilled fisherman, avid lover of sports and talented gardener. Over the years, he was a columnist for Florida Fish Finder. He served as secretary and president of the Brevard County Soccer Association and was a certified referee for the U.S. Soccer Federation. Don maintained a longtime love affair with Bass Masters and has many trophies.
Don is survived by his wife, Karen L. Witt; son, Ryan E. Witt of Orange Park; parents, Euart "Bub" and Betty Witt of Ocoee; sisters, Sharon Schwiesthal of Margate, Esther Miller of Hampton Roads, Va., and Jennifer Hirtz of Ocoee.
Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 17, 2001, at Penney Memorial Church, Penney Retirement Community, Poling Boulevard (off State Road 16), Penney Farms, with the Rev. Orlando Tibbets officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 17, 2001. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the American Diabetes Association, Gift of Remembrance Headquarters, 1101 N. Lake Destiny Road, No. 15, Maitland, Fla. 32751-7105, in the memory of Donald Euart Witt.

Elizabeth H. McColskey
Elizabeth Hollingsworth McColskey, 83, of Riverside Drive died Tuesday, Feb. 13, 2001, at Our Open Arms in Daytona Beach.
Mrs. McColskey was born April 1, 1917. Mrs. McColskey, a fourth-generation Floridian, was born and raised in Starke. At 19, she moved to Lake City, where she lived until moving to Ormond Beach in 1980 to be with her daughter and grandchildren. A member of First Baptist Church, she enjoyed traveling and crocheting. Momma Liz's happiest moments were shared with her grandchildren, "Angel" and Geran.
Survivors include her daughter, Anne Williams; son-in-law, Gerald Williams Jr.; two grandchildren, Geran Williams of Atlanta, Geri Elizabeth "Angel" Williams of Savannah, Ga.; and a nephew, James H. Hollingsworth III of Tallahassee.
Funeral services for Mrs. McColskey will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 17, 2001, at the graveside at Crosby Lake Cemetery, conducted by the Rev. James H. Hollingsworth III. Viewing will be from 9:30-10 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 17, at Jones Funeral Home in Starke.

Edith Irene Pridgeon
Edith Irene Pridgeon, 83, of Jasper passed away Tuesday, Feb. 13, 2001, at Suwannee Valley Nursing Center, Jasper.
The Meridian, Miss., native was a homemaker and of the Methodist faith. She was a former resident of Jacksonville and Lake City.
She is survived by two daughters, Susan Bradshaw of Jennings and Betty Jane Martin of Bridge City, Texas; six grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two grandchildren, Bart Bradshaw and Shannon Martin. Memorial services will be held at a later date.

Stanley Wenzel Moore
Stanley Wenzel Moore, 82, of White Springs passed away Friday, Feb. 2, 2001, at Suwannee Valley Nursing Home in Jasper after a short illness.
He was born Oct. 15, 1918, in Elkhart, Ind. to Ralph and Delida Peterson Moore. Mr. Moore was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II. He was a graduate of Elkhart High School, Elkhart Business University in 1958, Acme Technical Institute of Tool and Die Designing and a member of VFW Post 2093.
Survivors include a son, Ted of Lake Park, Ga.; daughter, Joline of Michigan; sister, Pearl DuBois; three brothers, all of Elkhart; eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Graveside funeral services were held in Lake Park on Feb. 5 with the Rev. Keith Sandlin officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to North Florida Hospice or First United Methodist Church of Lake City where he attended Sunday school and church.

Pinkie Stephens
Mrs. Pinkie Stephens, 79, of Lake City died Saturday, Feb. 10, 2001, at Suwannee Healthcare Center following an extended illness.
She was a native and lifelong resident of Columbia County and a member of Olivet Baptist Church.
Survivors include one son, Tyrone Gilmore of California; two sisters, Lorraine Jones of Lake City and Stella Robinson of Valdosta, Ga.; other relatives, Joseph Morris (Janie Mae) and Mrs. Easter Williams Fudge of Lake City.
Funeral services for Mrs. Pinkie Stephens will be at 11 a.m. Monday, Feb. 19, 2001, at Olivet Baptist Church with the Rev. Dr. H.M. Moss, pastor, officiating. Interment will follow in Garden of Rest Cemetery.

Grace Elva Roe
Ms. Grace Elva Roe, 83, of Lake City died Wednesday, Feb. 14, 2001, at a nursing home facility in Lake City.
Ms. Roe had been a resident of Lake City since 1986.
She is survived by one son, Samuel E. (Melonie) Roe of Marietta, Calif.; three daughters, Debbie (Jeff) Greenfield of Lake City, Margaret Johnson of Hockesin, Del. and Betty (Ellis) Johnson of Dover, Del.; one sister, Anna Hooper of Lake City; 11 grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
No services are planned for Ms. Roe. SHERRILL-GUERRY FUN-ERAL HOME, 616 S. Marion St., Lake City, is in charge of all arrangements.

Dolores Bestoso
Mrs. Dolores Irene Seelbinder Bestoso, 65, of Lake City died Saturday, Feb. 17, 2001, at her residence.
Mrs. Bestoso was born in Buffalo, N.Y., and moved to Hialeah in 1938. She and her husband, Charles Norman Bestoso, moved to Lake Butler in 1976, where they owned and operated a Western Auto associate store. After her husband's death, she became credit manager for Badcock Furniture in Starke. She moved to Lake City in 1996. She was a member of Bethlehem Baptist Church of Lake City. She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Bestoso, and a daughter, Lisa Beth Bestoso.
Mrs. Bestoso is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Linda Irene and Harold Poole of Winter Haven; two sons and daughters-in-law, Michael Norman and Dewayne Bestoso of Providence, and Duane Louis and JoAnn Bestoso of Lake City; six grandchildren and four great-granddaughters.
Memorial services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 24, 2001, at Bethlehem Baptist Church, Lake City, with the Rev. Lowell O'Steen officiating.

Vera H. Freeman
Mrs. Vera H. Freeman, 85, of Lake City died Monday, Feb. 19, 2001, in the Health Center of Lake City following a brief illness.
Mrs. Freeman was native of Athens, Ala., daughter of the late Houston and Estelle Sweetland Hardison, and had resided in Lake City for the past 28 years. Mrs. Freeman was a former medical records clerk for the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in St. Petersburg. She was a member of the Lakeview Church of Christ, Lake City.
Survivors include her husband of 49 years, Howard L. Freeman of Lake City; one son, Samuel C. Winton Jr. of Crawfordville; one brother, Lewis Hardison of Athens; one sister, Maureen Ellett of Winter Haven; two grandsons, Samuel C. Winton III of Tallahassee and Steve Winton of Crawfordville; three great-grandsons, Samuel C. Winton IV and Reese Winton, both of Tallahassee, and Michael Winton of Crawfordville.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 21, 2001, in the Chapel of Guerry Funeral Home, with Minister Eric George, pastor of Lakeview Church of Christ, officiating. Interment will follow in Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 20, 2001, at the funeral home. Percy L. Ratliff
Mr. Percy L. Ratliff, 75, of Macclenny, also known as "Mr. Percy" or the "Candy Man," died Monday, Feb. 19, 2001, in Baker Community Hospital.
He was a native of Chiefland and had resided in Macclenny since 1972, moving there from Lake City. He was a self-employed electrician and a member of Raiford Road Church. He served in the U.S. Army. He was preceded in death by his stepdaughter, Catherine Knight. He is the son of the late Robert and Willie Clemmons Ratliff.
Survivors include his wife, Alma S. Thorton Ratliff of Macclenny; two daughters, Paulinda Harvey of Macclenny and Sharon Bowels (Larry) of Sanford, N.C.; two stepsons, R.L. Starling and Joe Starling, both of Macclenny; two stepdaughters, Barbara Belleville and Annette Thomas, both of Macclenny; a sister, Wynema Ratliff of Lake City; 15 grandchildren and 28 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 21, 2001, in Raiford Road Church with the Revs. Johnny Raulerson and Eddie Griffis officiating. Interment will follow in Woodlawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6-9 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 20, 2001, in GUERRY FUNERAL HOME, U.S. 90 East, Macclenny.

Martha Ann Treverrow
Mrs. Martha Ann Treverrow, 69, of Lake City died Saturday, Feb. 17, 2001, in the Shands at Lake Shore hospital, Lake City, following a long illness.
Mrs. Treverrow was a native of Sycamore, Ga., daughter of the late Morgan and Luella Richardson Horton, and had resided in Lake City since 1973. Mrs. Treverrow was preceded in death by her husband, Edward Treverrow Sr.
Survivors include two sons, Edward (Marinell) "Jr." Treverrow of Lake City and Robert Lester (Charlotte) Treverrow of Jacksonville; two daughters, Linda Ann Silcox of Fort White and Helen (Brady) Brinkly of Lake City; three brothers, Howard (Bobbi) Horton of Arcadia, the Rev. R.C. (Ruth) Horton of Lakeland and Jack (Dorothy) Horton of Orlando; one sister, Dot Triplett of Orlando; 10 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 22, 2001, in the Chapel of Guerry Funeral Home, with the Rev. John Harrison, pastor of the Mount Olive Baptist Church, officiating. George W. Miller
George W. Miller, 71, of Lake City died Tuesday, Feb. 20, 2001, at Lake City Veterans Affairs Medical Center.
Born in Youngstown, Ohio, Mr. Miller lived in Lake City since 1994, having moved here from Homestead. Mr. Miller, a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, was regarded as a fun-loving father to his family, who will miss him very much.
Mr. Miller is survived by his wife of 52 years, Marian; two sons, Richard (Sharon) of Jupiter and George (Mary) of Lake City; three daughters, Eva (Robert) Gardner of Mathews, N.C., Jennifer (Bill) Rowan and Melinda (Larry) Roth, both of Lake City; two sisters, Betty Biskin of California and Marie Ondomisi of Ohio; and seven grandchildren.
A visitation for Mr. Miller will be at 1 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 22, followed by a service at 2 p.m. with military honors by the U.S. Army at Costanzo Funeral Home. Committal will be at Florida National Cemetery, Bushnell.

Lula Ratliff
Mrs. Lula Hall Ratliff, 84, of Lake City died Monday, Feb. 19, 2001, at Lake City Medical Center following a long illness.
Mrs. Ratliff was a native of Virginia and daughter of the late Sanda and Susie Hall. She lived in Wheel Wright, Ky., and Kite, Ky., prior to moving to Lake City in 1991. Mrs. Ratliff was a homemaker and the widow of the late George R. Ratliff.
Survivors include two sons, Bazzell Ray (Iolene) Ratliff of Cadiz, Ky., and Jerry Dean (Neva) Ratliff of Martin, Ky.; three daughters, Theda A. Chambliss of Lake City, Marietta S. Harrod of Mansfield, Ohio, and Patsy Sexton of Cadiz.; 11 grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 24, 2001, in the Chapel of Goodwin Funeral Home, Cadiz. Interment will follow in Eastend Cemetery, Cadiz. The family will receive friends from 4-9 p.m. Friday, Feb. 23, 2001, at the funeral home. The family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the charity of your choice. Nancy Leola Blackie
Nancy Leola Blackie, 61, of Lake City died Tuesday, Feb. 20, 2001, at Shands at Lake Shore hospital.
Mrs. Blackie lived in Jacksonville for most of her life but had resided in Lake City since 1973. Mrs. Blackie was of the Baptist faith. She was active in bowling leagues and loved her grandchildren. Mrs. Blackie was preceded in death by her sister, Judy Ann Blackie.
Survivors include her husband, Ralph Blackie of Lake City; three sons, Michael (Cynthia) Blackie of Jacksonville, Ricky Blackie of Oakland, Calif., Keith (Susan) Blackie of Lake City; one daughter, Joy (John) Nettles of Lake City; two sisters, Nora (Robert) Keller of Plano, Texas, and Eva Smith of Lake City; and six grandchildren.
Funeral services for Mrs. Blackie will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday, Feb. 23, 2001, at Eastside Baptist Church with the Rev. Don Freeman officiating. Interment will follow in Mount Carmel Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 22, 2001, at the funeral home.

Walter Hawkins Sr.
Walter Hawkins Sr. of Stroudsburg, Pa., a former resident of Lake City, died Thursday, Feb. 15, 2001, in Pennsylvania following an extended illness.
Born in 1937, he was the son of the late Charlie and Leola Hawkins. He was educated in the public schools of Columbia County, graduating with the Richardson High School Class of 1957. He was affiliated with Mount Ararat Baptist Church under the pastorage of the late Rev. G.S. Steward.
Survivors include his former wife, Edna Hawkins Davis; four daughters, Shirley Ann Hawkins of Lake City, Diane Hawkins, Debbie Cribb (Ralph), Shirleen Davis (Marcus), all of Cocoa; five sons, Robert Hawkins (Dora), Dennis Hawkins (Stephanie), Walter Hawkins Jr. (Vickie), Kenneth Hawkins and Jamie Hawkins, all of Cocoa; eight sisters, Louise Page (Otis), Betty Williams (Johnnie), Coretha Austin, Mildred Fulton, Mary Fletcher, Cora Raines and Margaret James, all of Lake City; one brother, John Sanders (Ruby) of Lake City; nine brothers-in-law; two sisters-in-law; one aunt, Mrs. Annie Mae Williams of Lake City; 23 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Funeral services for Walter Hawkins Sr. will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 24, 2001, at New Day Springs Baptist Church with the Rev. George Frances, pastor, and the Rev. Nathaniel Williams, eulogy. Interment will follow in Watertown Cemetery.

Robert D. Nolan
Mr. Robert D. Nolan of Lake City died late Sunday afternoon, Feb. 18, 2001, at his residence in the Robert H. Jenkins Jr. Veterans Domiciliary Home of Florida.
A native of Chattanooga, Tenn., Mr. Nolan had lived in Lake City for the past six years, having moved from the Tampa area. Mr. Nolan was a World War II veteran of the U.S. Army, having served in the European theater and was also awarded the Bronze Star. Mr. Nolan was of the Catholic faith. Mr. Nolan is survived by his sister, Mrs. May Paleveda (Patrick) of Tampa; six nieces and nephews.
Memorial services will be conducted for Mr. Nolan at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 28, 2001, in Florida National Cemetery, Bushnell. Interment will follow.

Flossie Freeman Brown
Flossie Freeman Brown, 91, of Lake City died Wednesday, Feb. 21, 2001, at Lake City Medical Center following an extended illness.
Mrs. Brown was a lifelong resident of Lake City. She is the daughter of the late Sidney Blair and Eliza Christie Freeman. She was a member of the Retired Teachers Association, ADK Sorority. She taught school for 45 years in the Columbia County School System and was a member of Southside Baptist Church.
Survivors include one daughter, Frances (Jim) Howton of Jacksonville; one son, Wayne (Carol) Brown of Crystal River; seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 24, 2001, in Sherrill-Guerry Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Mike Brown officiating and the Rev. Donald Freeman assisting. Margaret Marie Philo
Margaret Marie Philo, 97, of Fort White died Thursday, Feb. 22, 2001, in a nursing home facility in Lake City.
Mrs. Philo had lived in Fort White for 20 years, moving from Battle Creek, Mich. Mrs. Philo was a member of the Lake City Seventh Day Adventist Church. She loved tatting and needlework.
Mrs. Philo is survived by one son, Don Philo of Grand Haven, Mich.; two daughters, Alta Zdun of Fort White and Damaris (Dee) Mulvanie of Sidney, Mont.; 16 grandchildren, 12 great-great-grandchildren and one great-great-great grandchild.
Services for Mrs. Philo were conducted Sunday, Feb. 25, 2001, at 11 a.m., in the Lake City Seventh Day Adventist Church with the Pastor Ron Patterson officiating. The family received friends one hour prior to the service at the Lake City Seventh Day Adventist Church. SHERRILL-GUERRY FUNERAL HOME, 616 S. Marvin Tyre Jr.
Marvin Tyre Jr., 58, of Lake City died early Saturday morning, Feb. 24, 2001, in the Veterans Affairs Medical Center, Gainesville, following an extended illness.
A native and lifelong resident of Columbia County, Mr. Tyre was the son of the late Marvin and Lillie McMichael Tyre Sr. Mr. Tyre was a carpenter. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and was of the Baptist faith. Mr. Tyre was an avid fisherman and enjoyed riding in the woods.
Mr. Tyre is survived by his wife of 36 years, Joyce Ann Tyre; a son, Marvin Roy "Skebo" Tyre; a daughter, Lisa E. Brannen (Tommy), all of Lake City; four brothers, Leroy Stalvey (Shirley) of Lake Butler, Hubert Tyre (Ruth) of Lake Butler, James Tyre of Lake City and Johnny Mack Tyre (Ann) of Lake City; five sisters, Dot Nolan, Mary Feagle, Sylvia Brantley and Leana Fipps (Irving), all of Lake City, and Irita Richerson (Roger) of Lake Butler; his mother-in-law, Mrs. Mae Register of Lake City; two grandsons, Tyler and Coty Brannen; and a granddaughter, Nicole Brannen, also survive.
Funeral services for Mr. Tyre will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 27, 2001, in Biggs Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Ben Coleman officiating.
Interment will follow in the Williamson-Tyre Cemetery in Lulu. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Monday evening at the funeral home. Arrangements are under the direction of the BIGGS FUNERAL HOME, 3801 S. First St., Lake City.

Wesley G. Dickerson
Wesley G. Dickerson, 73, of Lake City passed away Saturday, Feb. 17, 2001, at home after a lengthy illness.
Mr. Dickerson has been a resident of Lake City since 1972. He is originally from Detroit. He retired as a staff sergeant in the U.S. Air Force in 1968 and from Aero in 1992.
He is survived by his wife, Barbara S. Dickerson; daughters, Patricia Beaulieu, Sherri Holmes and Cynthia Ann Carpenter; sons, Walter Dickerson, Richard Dickerson, Patrick Morrow and James H. Morrow; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at 12:15 p.m. Sunday, March 4, 2001, at Siloam Methodist Church on Siloam Road off Branford Highway (County Road 247), with the Rev. A.F. Donovan officiating.

Archie Lee Garrett Jr.
Mr. Archie Lee Garrett Jr., 74, of Wellborn died Sunday, Feb. 25, 2001, at Lake City Veterans Affairs Medical Center following an extended illness
Mr. Garrett was a native of Durham, N.C., and lived in Lake City for 40 years before moving to Wellborn six years ago. He was the son of the late Walter and Betty Campbell Garrett and worked as an O.R. technician at the VA medical center for 39 years until his retirement in 1980. He was a member of the Mount Olive Baptist Church, Wellborn, and a former member of the Wesley United Methodist Church, Lake City, for 30 years. He was a former board member of the USDA Credit Union, VA medical center, and a U.S. Navy veteran of WW II.
Survivors include his wife, Dot Garrett of Wellborn; two daughters, Charlene Brown of Lake City and Ilene (Murphy) McLean of Wellborn; one son, Jerry (Susan) Garrett of Wellborn; eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 28, 2001, at Mount Olive Baptist Church with the Rev. John F. Harrison, pastor, officiating and assisted by the Rev. Louie Mabrey, pastor of Wesley United Methodist Church. Interment will be in Mount Olive Cemetery, Suwannee County. Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 27, 2001, at GUERRY FUNERAL HOME, 4309 S. First St., Lake City.

Ethel Mae Pearce
Mrs. Ethel Mae Pearce, 92, of San Antonio, Texas, died at her residence following a long illness.
Mrs. Pearce was a native of Jasper, daughter of the late Luther and Allie Hargrove McDonald, and lived in Fort White until moving to Lake City in 1941. She moved to San Antonio in 1997. Mrs. Pearce was a homemaker and a member of First United Methodist Church of Lake City. She was the widow of the late Verner Wesley Pearce.
Survivors include one daughter, Joyce (Buddy) Rivers of San Antonio; two sons, Jack Wendell (Voncille) Pearce and Robert D. (Eloise) Pearce, both of Lake City; 14 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday, March 1, 2001, in the chapel of Guerry Funeral Home, with the Rev. James Roberts, pastor of Pine Grove Baptist Church, officiating. Interment will follow in Memorial Cemetery, Lake City. The family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 28, 2001, at the funeral home.

Edward Joseph Babinec Sr.
Edward Joseph Babinec Sr., 62, of Lake City died Thursday, Jan. 25, 2001, at his residence after an extended illness.
Mr. Babinec had lived in Lake City for 13 years after moving from Fort Lauderdale. He was a member of Epiphany Catholic Church and enjoyed poems, woodworking and art. Mr. Babinec was preceded in death by his father, Earl Babinec, in 1989; two of his sons, Edward Babinec Jr. in 1998 and Robert Babinec in 1999; and a brother, Timothy Babinec, in 1995.
Survivors include his wife of 40 years, Dorothy Babinec of Lake City; his mother, Mary Babinec of Lake City; two sons, Michael Babinec of Lake City and Frank Babinec of Coral Springs; three brothers, Earl Babinec of Fort Lauderdale, Ronnie and Terry Babinec, both of Lake City; one sister, Candy Palmer of Lake City; and nine grandchildren.
Funeral services for Mr. Babinec will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday, Jan. 29, 2001, at Epiphany Catholic Church, with Father George Kurubilla, CMI, officiating. Interment will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens. The family received friends from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home, with a rosary being held at 6 p.m.

William Andrew Boone
William Andrew "Andy" Boone, 35, of Key Largo died Thursday, Jan. 25, 2001, in Florida City.
He was a native of Lake City and had resided in Big Pine Key before moving to Key Largo three years ago. At the time of his death, he was a master sergeant with the Homestead Air Reserve Station, Florida detachment 1-125th fighter Wing, with 11 years of service. Mr. Boone was a graduate of Columbia High School class of 1983.
Survivors include his wife, Cheryl George Boone, of Key Largo; parents, William and Quinn Boone of Lake City; three sisters, Pamelia (David Sr.) Crews of Atlanta, Jeannie (David) Wallace of Bashkek, Kyrgyzstan, and Susan Chestnut of Lake City; one brother, Martin (Pam) Boone of Lake City; his father and mother-in-law, Tillman and Mary Sue George of Lake City; two nephews and a niece.
Full military services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 30, in the First Assembly of God Church with the Rev. Lowell O'Steen, pastor of the Bethlehem Baptist Church, officiating. Interment will follow in Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be from 6-9 p.m. Monday at GUERRY FUNERAL HOME, 4309 S. First St., Lake City.

Nancy Ann Cline
Nancy Ann Cline, 66, died Saturday, Jan. 28, 2001, in a Gainesville hospital.
Mrs. Cline had lived in Lake City for seven years, moving here from Jeffersonville, Ind. She was a member of the Church of the Lord Jesus Christ in East Bernstadt, Ky.
Survivors include her daughter, Sandra Skinner of Lake City; two brothers, Troy Martin of London, Ky., Glenn Martin of Lake City; and two grandchildren, Chad Strat and Shauna Turberville, both of Lake City.

Elizabeth Ann Henderson
Elizabeth Ann Rhoden Henderson, 79, died Friday, Jan. 26, 2001, in Ocala after an extended illness.
Mrs. Henderson was a former resident of Lake City for 45 years prior to moving to Ocala. She was a charter member of Parkview Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Johnnie W. Rhoden Sr., and her son, Johnnie W. Rhoden Jr.
Survivors include three daughters, Patricia Ann Ayers of St. Cloud, Anita Louise Rhoden of Ocala and Elaine Rhoden Buist of Greenwood, SC; brother, William Edward Wheatley of Tallahassee; and grandchildren, Mark Ayers and Cynthia "Kit" Buettner of St. Cloud, Tonaya Grayle Foreman of Dallas, Charles "Chuck" Buist and Christy Laine Buist, both of Greenwood, S.C.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 30, 2001, in the Sherrill-Guerry Funeral Home Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Joe Butler officiating. Mildred Louise Jordan
Mildred Louise Jordan, 86, of Live Oak died Thursday, Jan. 25, 2001, after a brief illness.
She was a native of Live Oak and the wife of 62 years to the late Alton Gaston McCullers. She was the daughter of the late William Alexander and Fronie Stinson Jordan of Live Oak. She is predeceased by a brother, William Jordan, of Live Oak. She was a faithful member and supporter of the Philadelphia Church of God whose fellowship she loved and was loved by all who knew her. She lived her life helping others in the medical field where she served as a nurse for 40 years.
She is survived by three sons, Al McCullers and wife Sandra of Jacksonville, Jimmy McCullers and wife Gloria and Emory McCullers and wife Nancy, both of Live Oak; two daughters, Glenda Sue Hughes and husband Fred of Burnsville, N.C. and Mary Alice Weatherly and husband Jim of Tallahassee; four sisters, Mabel Sapp of Live Oak, Ruth Walker of Port Richey, Frances Hill of Tarpon Springs and Alberta Leeper of Fernandina Beach; 15 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services for Mrs. McCullers were conducted at 3:30 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 28, 2001, in the Daniels Memorial Chapel with Dr. Jimmy Deas officiating. Interment followed in the Live Oak Cemetery. Visitation was held Saturday from 5-7 p.m. at the funeral home. Pallbearers serving were her grandsons Mark, Alan, Kevin and Clay McCullers, Jim and Mike Weatherly, Rickey, Keith and Mike McCullers and Lee, Greg, Tim and Jeremiah Hughes.

Leverne Porter
Mr. Leverne Porter, 76, of Lake City died Saturday, Jan. 27, 2001, in Integrated Health-care Services in Gainesville following an extended illness.
Mr. Porter was a native of Columbia County and had resided in Lake City most of his life. He was the son of the late Lon and Ruby Harvey Porter and was a former agriculture teacher for schools in Live Oak and Fort White. He also was employed as an agriculture inspector with the U.S. Department of Agriculture, Lake City, for 23 years until his retirement in 1987. He was a member and Sunday school teacher with the Mount Olive Baptist Church, Suwannee County, a graduate of the University of Florida with a degree in agriculture, a Navy veteran of World War II having served on the U.S. Pittsburg, a member of the Alpha Gamma Rho Fraternity, the Lake City Lodge No. 27 of Free and Accepted Masons, the Lake City Shrine Club and was an avid hunter and fisherman.
Survivors include three sisters, Luease Carver of Branford, Lucille Roberts of Orlando and Sara Witcher of Jacksonville; one brother, Eathen Porter of Fort White; four nieces, Wynelle Durden of Gainesville, Gwendolyn Hawkins and Karen Maggard, both of Fort White, and Lois Faye Hubbard of Lake City; seven nephews, Charles Porter and Charles Houston, both of Lake City, Jimmy Porter of Tampa, Norman Porter and Bobby Porter, both of Fort White, B.J. Carver of Brandenton and Mike Harris of Jacksonville.
Funeral services will be conducted at 3:30 p.m Tuesday, Jan. 30, in the Siloam United Methodist Church with the Rev. Charles Knight, pastor of Mount Beulah Baptist Church, officiating. Graveside masonic rites will be recited in Siloam Cemetery, Columbia County, Fla. Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Monday, Jan. 29, at GUERRY FUNERAL HOME, 4309 S. First St., Lake City.

Dewitt Reed Roberts
Dewitt Reed "Witty" Roberts, 86, of rural Lake City died Friday, Jan. 26, 2001, at his residence after an extended illness.
Mr. Roberts was born in Union County and lived most of his life in Columbia County. He was a retired farmer. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He was a member of the Church of Christ of High Springs.
Mr. Roberts is survived by his wife, Ina Crawford Roberts, of rural Lake City; one daughter, Trudy Dubose of Gainesville; two sons, Arthur Wayne Roberts of Lake Butler and Michael Dewitt Roberts of Lake City; two sisters, Reva O'Steen of Lake Butler and Mondell Blackwelder of Tallahassee; eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 28, 2001, at the Church of Christ of High Springs with Brother Roy Dicks and Brother Gene Burgett officiating. Burial followed at Philippi Cemetery in Columbia County. The family received friends Saturday from 6-8 p.m at the funeral home. The family requested that in lieu of flowers contributions be made to: North Central Florida Hospice, 4200 N.W. 90th Blvd., Gainesville, Fla. 32066.

Letha Bell Frazier
Mrs. Letha Bell Frazier, 72, of 590 Jefferson St., Lake City, died Friday, Feb. 23, 2001, at North Florida Regional Medical Center, Gainesville, following a brief illness.
Born in Columbia County, she was the daughter of the late Steve and Florence Bradley Bell. She received her education in Columbia County public schools.
Confessing Christ as her personal savior at an early age, she united with Mount Carmel Holiness Church under the leadership of Bishop Nick Hightower and remained a member until her death.
Survivors include: four sons and spouses, Carlos and Mary Bell, and David and Valerie Frazier, all of Orlando, and Joe L. and Susan Frazier, Freddie and Essie Frazier, all of Lake City; three daughters and their spouses, Frankie Jean and Sammie McCoy, Margaret and Eddie Lee Donaldson, and Janice and Terry Jackson; one son-in-law, Milton Rogers; 25 grandchildren, one whom she raised as her own, Travis Smith; 24 great-grandchildren; a god-daughter, Cora (Wilbur) Zeighler; a god-son, Archie (Mae) Young of Tampa; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
Funeral services for Mrs. Letha Bell Frazier will be 1:30 p.m. Saturday, March 3, 2001, at Olivet Baptist Church with the Rev. Dr. H.M. Moss, pastor, and Elder Clyde Douglass, eulogy. Interment will follow in the family cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6-7 p.m. Friday, March 2, 2001, at Combs Chapel, Lake City.
