Annie H. Clauser
"Because of you ‹ I have seen more sunsets, been filled with more laughter and felt more alive than I ever dared to believe possible."
Annie Irene Hudson Clauser, 79, died Wednesday, July 4, 2001, after a long and courageous battle against a stroke.
A descendent of a pioneer family of Columbia County, she was born Dec. 29, 1921, to Leroy Farmer Hudson and Alicia Margaret Birley Hudson. She was raised in Lake City until moving to Columbia, S.C., as a teen-ager. Although she completed high school in Columbia, S.C., she had been considered a member of the 1940 Columbia High School graduating class. In 1944, she received a bachelor's degree in commerce from the University of South Carolina, where she was a member of Delta Zeta sorority.
After graduating from college, she joined the U.S. Navy, serving from 1944-47. It was during this time that she met her husband, Edgar R. Clauser Jr. They were married on June 7, 1947, in Columbia, S.C. They lived briefly in Lake City until they moved to Marietta, Ga., where Mrs. Clauser was an accountant for the government at Dobbins Air Force Base. When Mrs. Clauser retired in 1985, they returned to Lake City to care for her aunt, Maud Birley Gray. She was actively involved in many civic and other organizations: a member and past president of the Columbia County Historical Society, a member of the Lake City Women's Club, a member the Women's Auxiliary of the Shrine Club, a member of the Delta Zeta alumni and a member of St. James Episcopal Church.
Mrs. Clauser will be deeply missed by her devoted and loving husband of 54 years, Edgar R. Clauser Jr.; her three children, Donna (Richard) McAdams of Lake City, Elizabeth (Hugh) Mulkey of Chattanooga, Tenn., and Edgar R. Clauser III (Paula) of Marietta; four grandchildren, Kelly Mulkey, Kevin Mulkey, Amanda Clauser and Chip Clauser.
The family would like to thank the staff of Avalon Healthcare and Hospice of North Central Florida for their kindness and compassion and our friends for their thoughts and prayers during Mom's illness. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to either Hospice of North Central Florida, 1900 Florida Gateway Center Blvd., Lake City, FL 32024; the St. James Episcopal Church Building Fund, Route 10, Box 931, Lake City, FL 32025-8878; or the North Florida chapter of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, 9550 Regency Square Blvd., No. 104, Jacksonville, FL 32225.

Oziah Cullings
Mr. Oziah Cullings, 80, of Broadway Street in Lake City, died Monday, July 2, 2001, in Shands at Lake Shore hospital following an extended illness.
Born in Fitzgerald, Ga., he was the son of the late John Coleman Cullings and Elsie Cullings. He was preceded in death by a sister, Florence Slater. He was employed at Ronsonet Buick for the last 46 years.
Survivors include his son, Kenneth (Joetta) Harrington, and a daughter, Joan Clark, both of Lake City; a loving and devoted friend and caretaker, Martha Coles Jones of Lake City; aunts, Missy Dohart of Fitzgerald, Lesie Mae Crittendre of Fort Pierce; five grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; a host of nieces, cousins, other relatives and sorrowing friends.
Funeral services for Mr. Oziah Cullings will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, July 7, 2001, in Olivet Missionary Baptist Church, the Rev. Dr. H.M. Moss, pastor; the Rev. Frank Stewart, eulogy. Interment will follow in Garden of Rest Cemetery.

Asa Irving Green, 95, of Lake City, died Thursday, July 5, 2001.

Ranel D. 'Bud' Hall
Mr. Ranel D. "Bud" Hall, 72, of Lake City, died Tuesday, July 3, 2001, in Lake City Medical Center following an extended illness.
Mr. Hall was a native of Osborn, Ky., son of the late John and Minnie Spears Hall and resided in New Boston, Mich., for many years prior to moving to Lake City in 1987. Mr. Hall was a retired steel worker, member of Athens Baptist Church, Lake City, and veteran of the Korean War, having served in the U.S. Army.
Survivors include his wife, Fannie Hall of Lake City; one son, Mallie Franklin (Lynn) Hall of Camden, Tenn.; six daughters, Brenda (Larry) Kittle of Winter Garden, Tammy Goins of St. Cloud, Jacqueline (Ted) Jacobs of Perrysville, Ohio, Kim (Tony) Daniel of Bradenton, Kristie (Hans) Akselsen of Tenants Harbor, Maine, Michelle (Matt) Depoister of Lake City; two brothers, James E. (Kay) Hall and John B. Hall, both of Vinton, Ohio; one sister, Nola (Bill) Skeens of Lorain, Ohio; 18 grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Saturday, July 7, 2001, in the chapel of Guerry Funeral Home with the Rev. Ray Lloyd officiating. Interment will follow in Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens, Lake City. The family will receive friends from 5-8 p.m. Friday, July 6, 2001, at GUERRY FUNERAL HOME, 4309 S. First St., Lake City, which is in charge of all arrangements.

Quentin Garner Highsmith
Quentin Garner Highsmith, 84, passed away Tuesday, July 3, 2001, in Lake City.
Born June 19, 1917, in Ocilla, Ga., he lived in Jacksonville since 1929 before moving to Lake City in 1996.
Mr. Highsmith was an elder and member of North Shore Presbyterian Church, graduated from Andrew Jackson High School and was the owner of Highsmith Brothers Appliances for 30 years. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army Air Corps in World War II.
Mr. Highsmith is survived by two daughters, Shirley H. Pellicer and her husband, Don, and Catherine H. Bryan and her husband, Ted, all of Lake City; a brother, Kermit D. Highsmith of Flagler Beach; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, July 6, in the chapel of GEORGE H. HEWELL AND SON FUNERAL HOME with Frank Haines officiating. Interment will follow at Evergreen Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the services. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorials be made to Hospice of North Central Florida, 1900 Florida Gateway Blvd., Lake City, FL 32024.

Sylvester Holton
Sylvester Holton, 67, of Lake City died Friday afternoon, June 29, 2001, after an extended illness.
He was born Dec. 11, 1933, in Jasper to May Bell Holton Jones and the late Robert Holton. Sylvester received his education in the public schools of Columbia County at Winfield School and Richardson High School. He accepted Christ at an early age and attended Sunday school regularly. He was a member of St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church.
He leaves to mourn in his passing, his mother, May Bell Holton Jones, Lake City; devoted friend, Ms. Alice Sellers of Lake City; two brothers, Cleveland (Juanita) Holton of Lake City; two aunts, Kathleen Bristol of Lake City and Lizzie Patterson of St. Petersburg; two uncles, J.C. Mosely of Jasper and Archie Holton of Jacksonville; two stepdaughters, Angie (Milton) Barber and Rosa (Avery) Kelsey; one stepson, Roger Jones, all of Lake City; and a host of other relatives and sorrowing friends.
Funeral services for Mr. Sylvester Holton will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 7, at the Community Revival Center, 228 N. Patterson St., Lake City, with the Rev. C.Y. Perry officiating and the Rev. Clyde Douglass presiding. Interment will follow in Springville Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6-7 p.m. Friday, July 6, at the funeral home.

Willie Mae Collins Jones
Mrs. Willie Mae Collins, 86, of Lake City's Winfield community, died Friday, June 29, 2001, at Avalon Health Care in Lake City, terminating an extended illness.
She was the daughter of the late Oscar and Hattie Mae Collins.
Born in 1914 in Worth County, Ga., she received her education in the public schools of Sylvester, Ga. She was the widow of the late Henry Jones Sr. and a member of Union AME Church, where she served until her health failed as a Stewardess Board member and member of Sunday Morning Band No. 9.
Survivors include four sons, Henry (Ruby) Jones Jr., Doris Jones, Cloyd (Betty) Jones, Eddie Lee (Pearl) Jones, all of Lake City; four daughters, Christine Henry of Orlando, Sadie R. Curtis of Eastmon, Ga., Angela Bristol of Daytona Beach, Angelina (Johnny) Sapp of Jacksonville; two brothers, Willie D. Collins of Fort Pierce and Robert J. Collins of Ocala; two sisters, Ida Collins and Maggie Jackson of Sylvester, Ga.; two sons-in-law; one brother-in-law; 42 grandchildren; 71 great-grandchildren; 20 great-great- grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
Funeral services for Mrs. Willie Mae Collins Jones will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, July 7, at Union AME Church, the Rev. Maureen Williamson, pastor; the Rev. Jonathan Mosley, eulogy.
Interment will follow in Falling Creek Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Combs Funeral Home Chapel from 7-8 p.m. Friday, July 6.

Allie Mae Patterson
Mrs. Allie Mae Patterson, 90, of Lake City died Wednesday, July 4, 2001, at her home following an extended illness.
She was born June 18, 1911, in Minneola and had been a resident of Lake City since 1979, having moved from Tavares. Mrs. Patterson was a homemaker and enjoyed cooking and caring for her many family members and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, "Pat" Patterson; a brother, Alfred Newman and two sisters, Bessie Barnhill and Ada Boston.
Mrs. Patterson is survived by her daughter, Bertha M. (Gerald) Sims; a son, Robert F. (Vivian) Stone, both of Lake City; five grandchildren, Gerri (Charles) Clark of Lake City, Tees (Duffy) Soto of Lake City, Danny E. Sims of Dunedin, Wayne Stone, John E. (Kathy) Stone of Fort Myers; nine great-grandchildren, Tina (Mark) Barta of Palm Bay, Terri (Greg) May of Lake City, Tracy (Wes) Davis of Lake City, Tony Clark of Lake City, Audrey Janus of Fort Myers, Christen Stone of Naples, Mandy Soto of Tallahassee, Danny Sims Jr. of Jacksonville, Jamie Sims of Jacksonville; nine great-great-grandchildren, Erin Barta, Caitlin Barta and Allison Barta, all of Palm Bay, Danny Sims III and Stephen Sims, both of Jacksonville, Greg May and Destiny May of Lake City; Andrea Berry and Ryan Clark, also of Lake City; nieces, Lottie (Dale) Dillard of Eustis, Betty Armstrong of Montgomery Village, Md., Jonnie (Joe) Blankenship of Avenal, Calif., Lula Bell McFerrin of Phoenix, Ala., Maggie (Lum) Howard of Orlando, Vernell (Junior) Clark of Lakeland; nephews, Graydon Newman of Lakeland, T.J. Boston of Sanford; numerous great nieces and nephews and cousins; and longtime friends, Jewell Kraft of Lake City, Juantia Hull and Bernice Bailey, both of Minneola, and Violet Sims of Orlando.
Graveside funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Sunday, July 8, in Minneola Cemetery with the Rev. Ron Patterson officiating. The family will receive visitors from 6-8 p.m. Saturday at SHERRILL-GUERRY FUNERAL HOME, 616 S. Marion St., Lake City, which is charge of all arrangements.

Rosalie Lofton Williams
Rosalie Lofton Williams, 72, of 656 Register St., died Sunday, July 1, 2001, at Lake City Medical Center after a brief illness.
She was the second child of three siblings, born on April 30, 1929, in Lake City to the late Azaleen Griffin Lofton and Edward Lofton. Her early education began in Columbia County at Sandpond School. She received her high school diploma from Richardson High School, graduating with the class of 1949. Rosalie accepted Christ at an early age, joining Philadelphia Missionary Baptist Church under the late Rev. Herman Lloyd. Upon moving to Lake City, she served faithfully and dutifully in many capacities ‹ choir member, class leader of Unit Six, vice president of United Methodist Women, chairperson of the Hospitality Committee and, more importantly, she was founder of The Telephone Ministry.
Everyone in the community could depend on her for getting things done. She was also a member of the Columbia County Women's Club Inc. and American Legion Auxiliary Post 322.
On June 29, 1949, she was united in holy matrimony to Mr. Louis Williams. They were happily married for 52 years. Her loving spirit for children showed in her chosen field of work. She was employed as a day-care provider for 22 years. Affectionately referred to as "Me Ma" by many who knew her, she was respected and admired for her warmth and wisdom. With a giving and sharing heart, she gave unselfishly of her time in many ways throughout the community.
She leaves to cherish her memories a dedicated and loving husband, Louis Williams of Lake City; two goddaughters, Jacquelyn Graham of Lake City and Fredrina Combs of Boynton Beach; a devoted niece, Shirley Kinsey (Bernard), Pacific Palisades, Calif.; sister, Mamie Williams of Fort Lauderdale; brothers-in-law, Dave Williams (Delores) of Lake City and Richard Williams of Miami; special cousins, Hayward Lofton (Corine), David Lofton (Dorothy) of Lake City, Stanley Lofton of Yulee and Tonita Orr (William) Lake City; devoted friends, Willa Veda Colley, Betty Jefferson, Cora Bell Rains, Dorothy Simpson and Mary Francis Harris; aunts and uncles; a host of nephews, nieces, cousins and sorrowing friends.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, July 9, in Trinity United Methodist Church, 310 Martin Luther King Drive, Lake City; the Rev. Margaret Kartwe, pastor, the Rev. James D. Johnson, officiating. Viewing will be at 5 p.m. Sunday, July 8, in the chapel of Combs Funeral Home. Interment will be in the Beatice and Henry Lofton Memorial Cemetery, Lake City.

John Wells Argersinger Jr.
John Wells "Jack" Argersinger Jr., 82, of Blakely, Ga., died Saturday, July 7, 2001, at Early Memorial Hospital in Blakely after an extended illness.
Mr. Argersinger was a native of Johnstown, N.Y., and had resided in Blakely for the past 25 years. Mr. Argersinger was a radio broadcaster and had worked for WBBK in Blakely for 15 years. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Blakely. He is the son of the late John Wells and Dorothy Burr Argersinger.
Survivors include his wife, Sarah Katherine Melton Argersinger; one daughter, Cheryl Dorothy Skinner of Opp, Ala.; two sons, John Richard (Wanda) Argersinger of Mulga, Ala., and Robert Charles (Debbie) Argersinger of Hodges, Ala.; five grandchildren, Aaron Argersinger, James C. Locke, O'neil White, Jonah White and Robert Samuel Argersinger; his father-in-law, Doc Melton of Lake City.
Graveside services will be conducted for Mr. Argersinger at 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 11, at Forest Lawn Memorial Cemetery with the Rev. Louie Mabrey officiating.

Charles Vernon Holderfield, 61, of Fort White, died Saturday, July 7, 2001, at his residence after an extended illness.
Mr. Holderfield lived in Fort White for 15 years, coming from Hollywood, where he had lived most of his life. Mr. Holderfield was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include his wife, Lynda Holderfield of Fort White; two daughters, Tammy Holderfield of Fort White and Wanda Maddox of Ashville, Ala.; two sons, Travis Holderfield of Fort White and Charles V. Holderfield Jr. of Pace; one sister, Sherry Helms of Alabama; and 11 grandchildren.
A graveside service will be conducted for Mr. Holderfield at 2 p.m. Wednesday, July 11, at Memorial Cemetery with the Rev. J.B. "Tank" Ogburn.

Christine C. Shugars
Christine C. Shugars, 75, of Lake City, died Sunday, July 8, 2001, at Shands at Lake Shore after an extended illness.
Mrs. Shugars had lived in Lake City since 1985, moving from Maryland. She was of the Baptist faith and a member of Parkview Baptist Church, Lake City. She was a homemaker and enjoyed volunteer work.
Survivors include her husband of 58 years, Joseph Henry Shugars of Lake City; one daughter, Barbara Lee (Kenneth) Cobb of Annapolis, Md.; three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Funeral services for Mrs. Shugars will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday, July 12, in Sherrill-Guerry Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Joseph Butler officiating. Interment will follow in Bonifay Cemetery, Bonifay. The family will receive friends from 9-11 a.m. Thursday prior to the service. SHERRILL-GUERRY FUNERAL HOME, 616 S. Jimmy Singletary
Mr. Jimmy Singletary was taken from us Sunday morning, July 8, 2001, in an automobile accident.
Mr. Singletary, 38, who was born in Gainesville, met his untimely end attempting to drive home from a local tavern where he had just finished watching the Pepsi 400. He was three miles from home when his car left the roadway and slammed into an oak tree. Jimmy was an avid racing fan and most Saturday evenings he could be found racing at Lake City Speedway. His race cars were Nos. 9 and 25, and he chaulked up many wins.
He is survived by a loving wife, Susan; mother, Helen; brother, Gene; and sister, Christy.
Private services will take place at a later date.

Jeanne Thurber Smith
Jeanne Thurber Smith, 79, of White Springs passed away Sunday, July 8, 2001, at her home following an extended illness. The St. Cloud native was a homemaker.
She is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Norman W. Smith Jr. (Cheryl) of Winter Park and one granddaughter, Ashley M. Smith.
Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, July 11, at Riverside Cemetery in White Springs.

Morris Jacob Smith
Morris ("Jolly," "Shaky") Jacob Smith of Lake City was born Dec. 22, 1931 and died Tuesday, July 3, 2001, in Lake City.
Mr. Smith was the son of the late Mary Lee Clark and the late Morris Smith Sr. He attended Columbia County public schools and then entered the U.S. Army. Mr. Smith had been employed at Northeast State Hospital in Macclenny and The Veterans Administration Hospital in Lake City.
Survivors include: three daughters, Melissa Wright (Shannon) of Jacksonville; Lola Smith (Marvin) and Monica Underwood (Lonnie), all of Lake City; three sons, Johnny Neal (preceded him in death), Morris Smith III (Ann) and Melvin Wright, all of Lake City; two sisters, Loretta McSwain (James) of Lake City; Mamie Cutless of St. Petersburg; three godsisters, Mary L. Cason of West Palm Beach, Estralita Taylor (Tyrone) and Helen Davis (Clemis), all of Lake City; one aunt, Ruth Berry of Lawtey; 20 grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and sorrowing friends.
Funeral services for Morris J. Smith will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 10, at Trinity United Methodist Church, with the Revs. Margaret Kartwe, pastor, and J.D. Johnson, eulogy. Interment will follow in Garden of Rest Cemetery.

Inez Elease Davis
Mrs. Inez Elease Davis, 48, of Lake City, died July 3, 2001 in the emergency room of Lake City Medical Center after an illness.
She was born January 8, 1953, in Jacksonville to the late Elease Tolliver Smith and Henry Smith Jr. She was a member of the Christian Deliverance Center of Jennings.
Survivors are: daughter Lee Ann Davis of Jacksonville; four sons, Patrick Davis (Sheryl) Lake City, Michael, Tyrone and Anthony Davis of Kansas City, Mo.; former husband Anthony Davis of Kansas City, Mo, mother-in-law Mary Davis of Kansas City, Mo.; six brothers, James Smith of Vero Beach, Isiah Smith, Mayo, Earl Smith of Olustee, Isaac Smith of Macclenny, Gary Simmons of Lake City and Willie Simmons (Nikki) of Lake Cityan aunt, Rosalee Wilcox of Olustee; uncles Nathaniel Tolliver (Joan) of Jacksonville, Articuss Tolliver (Betty) of Orlando, Ronald Tolliver of Olustee, sisters Denise Carodine (Chris) of Lake City,Rosetta Robinson (James) of Olustee; sister-in-law Patricia Smith of Kansas City, Mo.; a great uncle, Frank Heck of Jacksonville; seven grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews and sorrowing friends and church members.
Funeral Services will be held Saturday July 14, 2001, at 11 a.m. at the Jerusalem Baptist Church, Olustee, with the Rev. Charles Barrett officiating. Interment will follow in the Olustee Cemetery. Emory "Jimmy" Singletary
Emory "Jimmy" Singletary, 39, of Lake City died Sunday July 8, 2001, in a car crash.
Mr. Singletary, son of Helen Singletary Thompson and the late Emory Singletary, was an avid fan of NASCAR and also had driven race cars since 1984, starting at Columbia Motor Sports Park, then drove at Lake City Speedway since their opening. Jimmy owned his own race car No. 09 and also drove for several other car owners such as Bob Jankiwski No. 75., Terry Krovec No. 11 teen, and James Givens No. 9. Among Jimmy's most recent accomplishments was winning the dash for cash race on June 23, 2001, and being Speedways 2000 Florida Modified Points Champion.
He is survived by his wife, Susan Singletary; sisters Connie and Christie; brothers Gene Hank and Troy; step kids, Jerry (Carolyn) Strickland, Kathleen (Kenny) Purvis and Pennie (Bill) Stanley; grandkids, Jerry Jr., Coy, William and Bridget and J.D.

Mrs. Pauline Udell, 53, of White Springs,Passed away on Saturday evening, July 7, 2001, at her residence following an extended illness.
Mrs. Udell was a devoted Christian and served God to the end, even after her health failed.
Mrs. Udell leaves to mourn her passing a devoted husband, Ralph David Udell; five sons, Ralph Darian Udell (Alonda) of Topeka, Kan., Caldwell Udell of Mannheim, West Germany; Donovan Udell of Fort Riley, Kan., Natasha Udell of White Springs; Julian Udell of White Springs; six sisters, Ruby Coley (Sam) of Lake City, Martha Harris of Lake City, Henrietta Halyard of Jasper, Barbara Thomas of White Springs, Phyllis Simmons, (Clifford) of Jasper., and Sheree Riggins of White Springs; three brothers, Joe L. Williams of Tampa; Frances Williams of White Springs, Stanley Williams (Viola) of White Springs; aunts, Mrs. Jeannette Udell (Lawrence) of White Springs, Mrs. Tommie Smith of White Springs, and Mrs. Cleo Newsome of, White Springs.; uncle, Theola Jones of Lake City; three grandsons, Ralph Udell and Robert Udell, both of Topeka, Kan.; Caldwell Udell, Jr. of Mannheim West, Germany; sister-n-law, Henrietta Jackson of White Springs, brothers-in-law Douglas Udell (Lila) of Live Oak, Nelson Udell of White Springs; and other cousins, relatives and sorrowing friends.
Funeral services for Mrs. Pauline Udell will be Saturday, July 14, 2001, at 11 a.m. at New Bethel A.M.E Church, White Springs, with the Rev. Elizabeth Yates officiating. Viewing will be Friday, July 13, 2001, from 5. until 7 p.m. at Sweet Home Baptist Church. Burial will be at East side Memorial Cemetery.

Simon Watson Sr.
Simon Watson Sr., a pioneer citizen of Fort White, died peacefully at his residence Monday, July 9, 2001, terminating an extended illness. He was a native and lifelong resident of Fort White and is a member of Jerusalem Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Inez T. Watson; one son, James A. Watson, Sr. (Bobie) of Live Oak; three daughters, Inez W. Davis and Adell W. Gray of Jacksonville, and Dasye W. Houston (James D.) of Talladega, Ala.; three brothers; two sisters; 13 grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; one daughter-in-law, Daisy Box Watson of Fort White, and other relatives and sorrowing friends.
Funeral services for Simon Watson Sr. will be 1 p.m. Saturday, July 14, 2001, at Jerusalem Baptist Church. Interment will follow in Mount Moriah Cemetery, Fort White. The family will receive friends at Jerusalem Baptist Church on Friday from 6. until 9 p.m..

Logan Stanley Chappell
Logan Stanley Chappell, 89, died Wednesday, July 11, 2001.
Born in Macon, Ga., on May 25, 1912, he settled in Orange Park in 1955. He earned a bachelor of arts degree in architecture from Columbia University, where he was president of the student body and upon graduation received six of the 12 architecture awards, one of which was a fellowship that allowed him nine months of independent study in Europe before returning to Columbia for his master's degree. His resulting articles on modern European architecture were published in American Architect and Architecture.
In World War II, he was a lieutenant commander in photographic intelligence for the U.S. Navy.
During 30 years with KBJ Architects in Jacksonville, he was the lead designer of projects as diverse as a golf clubhouse at the Breakers Hotel in Palm Beach and an innovative prison complex at Raiford. A vice president of KBJ, he retired in 1975. A longtime member of Orange Park United Methodist Church, for 34 years he taught an adult Sunday school class that now bears his name.
Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Rabun Calhoun Chappell; three sons, Stan, Calhoun and John; and three grandchildren, Keith, Brad and Julie.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 14, in the Orange Park United Methodist Church, 2063 Park Ave., Orange Park. The Rev. LeeAnn Inman will officiate. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Orange Park United Methodist Church or the Alzheimers Association, Northeast Florida Chapter, 2133 Mango Place, Jacksonville, FL 32207.
