Myrna L. Gurr
Myrna L. Gurr died suddenly in a traffic accident Monday, July 16, 2001, in Okeechobee.
She lived in Jacksonville most of her life and was a graduate of Englewood High School. Myrna was the secretary for the Georgia-Florida Ramblers RV Club. Upon retirement in 1997, she and Larry moved to Branford. She was preceded in death by her father, Kenneth McIntosh, and her grandson, Cody Gibson.
Survivors include her husband of 25 years, Larry L. Gurr; daughter, Janet L. Wolff (Kenny); son, Tommy Gibson; three grandchildren, Austin, Aaron and Amber Wolff; mother, Mattie Jackson; three sisters, Shauna Johnson (John), Tommie Ferguson and Jacque Jones; her beloved dogs, Snuggles and Li'l bit; four stepchildren, Michael, Keith, Sharon and Tim; and the large extended family that she and Larry shared.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, July 21, in the chapel of HARDAGE-GIDDENS FUNERAL HOME, 4315 Main St., with burial to follow in Evergreen Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Annie G. Brown
Annie G. "Gerty" Brown, 93, of Branford, died Thursday, July 19, 2001, at Lake City Medical Center following an extended illness.
Mrs. Brown was born in Mayo and lived in various cities throughout Florida before moving to Lake City in 1959. She moved to Branford in 1988. A homemaker and member of Westside Baptist Church in Gainesville, Mrs. Brown was preceded in death by her husband James S. "Dock" Brown, an infant son and a granddaughter.
Mrs. Brown is survived by a son, Ulas "Buddy" (Christine) Brown of Palm Bay; four daughters, Daisy Jones of Gainesville, Nancy Sharp of Crescent City, June (Paul) Durden and Shirley (Ken) Sanborn of Lake City; 10 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and two step-grandchildren.
Graveside funeral services for Mrs. Brown will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 21, in Memorial Cemetery in Lake City with the Revs. Doug White of Westside Baptist Church and Paul Halloran of Advent Christian Church in Bell officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at BIGGS FUNERAL HOME, 3801 S. First St., Lake City, which is in charge of arrangements.

Howard York Curry
Howard York Curry of Lake City died Monday, July 16, 2001, at Lake City Veterans Affairs Medical Center.
A native of Crenshaw City, Ala., Mr. Curry worked as a lithographer and was a Navy veteran of the Korean War.
Burial was at Florida National Cemetery on Friday, July 20. Arrangements are under the direction of COLUMBIA FUNERAL HOME AND CREMATION CENTER (formerly Costanzo Funeral & Cremation), 1270 E. Duval St., Lake City.

Beatrice Witt Ek
Beatrice Witt Ek, 81, of South Daytona Beach died Thursday, July 19, 2001, at Alterra Claire Bridge Nursing Facility in Orlando following a long illness.
Mrs. Ek was a native of Lake City and the daughter of the late Barney and Winnie Wood Witt. She had resided in South Daytona Beach since 1960. Mrs. Ek was a homemaker and a member of the Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Lake City. Mrs. Ek was preceded in death by her husband, Mr. E. Ed Ek.
She is survived by one daughter, Gloria (Bill) Duncan of Orlando; and one grandson, Ryan Duncan of Orlando.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, July 22 at Bethlehem Lutheran Church with the Rev. Ron Willis officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial should be made to the Alzheimer's Association, 2123 Mango Place, Jacksonville, FL. 32207, or to the Bethlehem Lutheran Church Cemetery Association, Route 2, Box 1634, Lake City, FL. 32024.

Frances Elizabeth Evans
Frances Elizabeth Evans of Branford died Friday, July 20, 2001, after an extended illness.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Bernice Edward "Eddie" Evans; a brother, Charles C. Gould; and her parents.
She leaves behind a loving family; four sons, Richard E. Evans and his fiancee Debbie Gattliff of Arlington, Texas, Bernie J. (Janet) Evans of Pascagoula, Miss., Perry A. Evans of Branford and John A. Evans of Branford; two sisters, Kathy Britten of Tampa and Donna (Sam) Sager of Zepherhills; five grandchildren April (John) Parks, Jeffrey Evans and fiancee Kim Haygood, Gregory Evans, Crystal Evans and Jonathan Evans; two great-grandchildren, Brandon Martin and Jonathan Parks; and numerous other family and friends.
Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, July 25, in Daniels Memorial Chapel at DANIELS FUNERAL HOME of Branford, which is in charge of all arrangements. Peggy Johns

Master Demarck Tye Anderson, infant son of Dinyada V. Anderson, peacefully slept as angels lifted him to heaven on Monday, July 2, 2001, at Shands at Lake Shore hospital.
He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Walter Anderson Jr.
He leaves to cherish his mother, Dinyada "Denny" Anderson; grandmother, Margaret Moultrie; great grandfather, Mactta P. Moultrie; two aunts, Kumari (Rogdrick) Young and Barbara A. Powell; two uncles, Dell Smith and Waldrick Anderson; and godparents, Vikki Jones, Kinekia Kimble and Paris Kimble.

Clinton Ray Buchanan
Clinton Ray Buchanan, 56, of O'Brien, died Thursday, July 19, 2001, at his residence following an extended illness.
Mr. Buchanan lived in O'Brien for 10 years, coming from Fort Lauderdale, where he had also resided for 10 years. Mr. Buchanan was a veteran of the U.S. Army and was a member of the Florida National Guard for the last seven years. Mr. Buchanan enjoyed fishing.
Survivors include his mother, Ella Mae Buchanan, Port Orange; his wife, Diane Hanna Buchanan, O'Brien; two daughters, Tammy and (Kenneth) Yelle, and Lisa and (James) Norris, both of O'Brien; three sons, Clinton R. (Ginny) Buchanan Jr., Tallahassee, Duncan and (Heather) Buchanan, Tallahassee, and James and (Kathy) Buchanan, Rogersville, Tenn.; one sister, Ella Louise Gray, Marianna; three brothers, Cecil A. Buchanan, Bunelli, John A. Buchanan, Daytona, Kenneth R. Buchanan, Port Orange; 13 grandchildren and one great grandchild.

Peggy Jane Johns
Mrs. Peggy Jane Johns, 57, of Lake City, died Sunday, July 22, 2001, at her residence following a long illness.
Mrs. Johns was a native and lifelong resident of Lake City and daughter of the late Alton Lee Hall. Mrs Johns was a member of First Assembly of God of Lake City and was preceded in death by her brother, Alton "Buddy" Hall.
Survivors include her husband, Eugene Johns; one daughter, Lori (Langdon) Kirby; one son, Jeff (Linda) Johns; mother, Mildred Hall; one sister, Geri Dice; three grandchildren, Jessica Kirby, Bo Kirby and Amanda Ramiccio, all of Lake City.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 25, in First Assembly of God with the Rev. Denver Surgener, church pastor, officiating, and the Rev. Oral Lyons assisting. Interment will follow in Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, July 24, at GUERRY FUNERAL HOME, 4309 S. Sterling 'Lucky' Dorsett
Sterling "Lucky" Dorsett, 76, of Lake City, passed away July 20, 2001, at Hospice of North Central Florida after a lengthy illness.
Born Dec. 27, 1924, in Macomb, Ill., he served in the Air Force in England and France during World War II. He later moved to Florida from Ohio and retired from GTE of Florida in 1985 with 35 years of service. Mr. Dorsett was a member of Bethel Missionary Baptist Church in Wellborn.
He is survived by Dolly, his wife of 26 years; daughter, Vallee Weaver (Richard) of Arizona; son, Joel Nye (Pat) of Hawaii; four grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of North Central Florida. Arrangements by DIRECT CREMATIONS.

Gertrude Parnell Manker
Gertrude (Mama Gert) Parnell Manker, 89, of Lake City, died Friday, July 20, 2001, at her home at 1054 Shaw Circle following an extended illness.
Born in Columbia County, she was the daughter of the late Sipp and Oni Parnell who preceded her in death. She received her education in the public schools of Columbia County. Mama Gert, as she was so well known among family and friends, was a member of Huntsville United Methodist Church, Lake City.
Survivors include her children, Evelyn Pearce, Elbert Manker and Delores Bell; 11 grandchildren, Yvonne Griffin of Gainesville, Gloria Robinson (Ronald), Irene Roundtree (Kenneth), Yvette Coleman (Edward), Yolanda Brown, Edward Mikell, Alfis Wilson (Tequila), Patricia Wyche (Glenn), Robin Robinson and Chris Bell, all of Lake City, and Gwen Demps of Gainesville; two sisters, Oni Belvin and Emma Williams of Lake City; 25 great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; one sister-in-law, Arrie Johnson; and a host of devoted nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
The remains will lie in state at Combs Funeral Home, 400 E. Washington St., Lake City, from 7-8 p.m. Friday, July 27. Funeral services for Gertrude (Mama Gert) Parnell Manker will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, July 28, at Huntsville United Methodist Church. Interment will follow in Huntsville Cemetery.

Marie Ashley Weaver
Marie Ashley Weaver, 91, passed away Thursday, July 19, 2001.
She was a resident of Lake City from 1971 until she moved to Surrey Place center in Live Oak in April 1993. She was born May 12, 1910, in South Jacksonville. Mrs. Weaver is a former member of the Church of Christ of Lake City. She was among the 11 children of Clarence Ashley and Jennie Hartley Ashley. Mrs. Weaver was predeceased by her husband, Roy G. Weaver Sr., and in 1989 by her youngest son, Donald C. Weaver of Lake City.
She is survived by her oldest son, Roy G. Weaver Jr., and his wife, Mary, of Barefoot Bay; seven grandchildren, Bruce Weaver (Roseann) of Jacksonville, Gary Weaver (Valerie) of Lake City, Angela Kraus (David) of Jacksonville, Anita Croteau (Rick) of Lawtey, Kelly Hoffman (Steve) of Cooper City, Cindy Weaver of Gainesville and Gene Weaver of Barefoot Bay; six great-grandchildren, Amelia Kraus and Seth Kraus of Jacksonville, Amanda Crouteau of Lawtey, Adam Hofman and Kaitlyn Hofman of Cooper City and Jessica Weaver of Jacksonville; one brother, Ivan Ashley (Katherine) of Candler, N.C.

Tanisha Michelle Bing
Tanisha Michelle Bing of Fort White met her untimely death on Sunday, July 22, 2001, as the result of an automobile accident.
She was a graduate of Columbia High School Class of 2000, member of Holy Temple Church of God in Christ and assistant manager of the Florida Welcome Station in High Springs.
She leaves to cherish her memories a loving family; her mother, Coretta Bryant; father, Gregory Bing Sr.; a very special grandmother, Bernice Bennett; three sisters, Veronica Bryant, Felicia Bryant and Briana Bing, all of Fort White; five brothers, Jerel Phillips, Jacob Covington, Gregory Bing Jr. and Kendrick Bing, all of Fort White, and Javon Wright of St. Petersburg; grandmother, Virginia Bing of Fort White; grandfathers, Johnny Bryant, Alachua, and Clyde Bing Sr., Fort White; other grandparents and a special aunt, Kathy Carter, Fort White; a special friend, Anthony Bell; a host of aunts, uncles, cousins and sorrowing friends.
The family will receive friends at Charles T. Hall Funeral Home, 620 S. Houston Ave., Live Oak, from 6-8 p.m. Friday, July 27.

Myrtice Blanton
Myrtice Blanton, 82, of Live Oak, passed away Thursday, July 26, 2001, in Suwannee Health Care Center, Live Oak.
Mrs. Blanton, who was born in South Carolina, was a homemaker and of the Baptist faith. Mrs. Blanton was preceded in death by her son, Joe Blanton.
Survivors include two daughters, Sybil Long, Live Oak, and Edith Smith, Liberty, S.C.; daughter-in-law, Shirley Blanton, Live Oak; son-in-law, Billy Long, Live Oak; two sisters, Juanita Madden, Senica, S.C., and Camilla Walt, Greer, S.C.; two brothers, Frank Lee, Walhalla, S.C., and Charles Lee, Greer, S.C.; six grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and three stepgrandchildren.

Ethel Gaskin Blue
Ethel Gaskin Blue, 82, died Thursday, July 19, 2001, after an extended illness.
Mrs. Gaskin, who lived in Sanderson, was a member of New St. Johns Missionary Baptist Church and the Prayer Band. She was a retired employee of Northeast Florida Hospital.
Survivors include two daughters, Gail Jones and Sharon Simmons; eight sons, Ernest Jr., Larry, Lorenzo, Gary, Barney, Martinal, Glennel and Louis Jr.; two brothers, Frank Gaskins and Dan Gaskins; 17 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and one godchild, Britt.
Mrs. Blue will repose in the Baker County High School auditorium from noon Saturday until the hour of service. Funeral services for Mrs. Blue will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, July 28, at Baker County High School with the Rev. Richard Gaskins officiating. Burial will follow in Quitman Cemetery under the care of CAESARS FUNERAL HOME, Ms. A.J. Caesars, owner, Charles H. Chestnut, LFD and manager, 726 E. MLK Jr. Drive, Lake City.

Willie Mae Jerry Haddock
Mrs. Willie Mae Jerry Haddock of Route 16, Box 616, Lake City, died Monday, July 23, 2001, at Lake City Medical Center, terminating an extended illness.
She was the daughter of the late Jesse and Pearl Bailey Jerry. Mrs. Haddock accepted Christ as her savior at an early age and joined Falling Creek Missionary Baptist Church, where she served as a faithful member of the Deaconess Board and mother of the church.
She leaves to cherish her memory a loving and devoted daughter, Inet Rossin, Lake City; one sister, Mrs. Mary Alberta Dunmore, Fort Lauderdale; one brother, Mr. Kaiser Jerry, Lake City; 10 grandchildren, Billy N. Rossin, Miami, Thelma Johnson (Curtis), Waycross, Ga., Russell Rossin Jr. (Sonya), Lake City, Gloria Smith, Jacksonville, Walter Rossin, Leonard Rossin, Angela Hill, James Rossin, Barbara Jackson and Dawn Leahy (Tom), all of Lake City; seven stepgrandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; 29 great-great grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

Gertrude (Mama Gert) Parnell Manker, 89, of Lake City, died Friday, July 20, 2001, at her home at 1054 Shaw Circle following an extended illness.

Charlie Pate Jr.
Charlie Pate Jr. of Lake City died Thursday, July 19, 2001, after an extended illness.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Deacon Charlie Pate Sr., and Mrs. Sara Hunter Pate and two brothers, Arthur and William Pate.
He leaves behind a loving family; his wife, Rose Fennell Pate, Lakeland; sons, Charles Pate Jr. (Inez), Live Oak; daughters, Vernita Ann Pate, and her friend, Willie E. Berry, Jacksonville, Michelle Pate-Henderson (Elijah), Live Oak; three sisters, Annie Mandy, Lake City, Sara Thomas, White Springs, and Minnie Chaney, Jacksonville; grandchildren, Lanisha Pate, Keith Thomas, and Calvin Spendor; one great-grandchild, Cha'nale Washington; two sisters-in-law, Geneva Pate and Frankie Pate; a host of nieces, nephews and sorrowing friends.
The family will receive friends at 6 p.m. Friday, July 27, in St. Johns Holiness Church of Live Oak. Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, July 28, in Community Revival Center, Lake City; Elder Clyde Douglass, pastor, and Bishop Horace Brown, officiating. Committal will follow in Eastside Memorial Cemetery of White Springs.

Samuel Victory
Samuel Victory, 83, of Wellborn passed away Wednesday, July 25, 2001, in Surrey Place Nursing Home after a long illness.
The Tuscaloosa, Ala., native moved to Wellborn in 1990. He was a pump operator, member of the Moose lodge in Huntsville, Ala., and member of First Full Gospel Church in Lake City.
Survivors include his wife, Myrtle Victory, Wellborn; two sons, Danny Victory, Griffith, Ind., and Thomas M. Victory, Madisonville, Ky.; one sister, Pauline Armstrong, Huntsville; one brother, J.C. Victory, Pell City, Ala.; seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 28, in Daniels Memorial Chapel, Live Oak, with the Rev. Stanley Ellis officiating. Interment will follow in Live Oak Cemetery. Visitation will be 10-11 a.m. Saturday prior to the service.

Kenneth Gerald Davis
Mr. Kenneth Gerald Davis, 57, of Lake City, died Friday, July 27, 2001, in North Florida Regional Medical Center in Gainesville.
Mr. Davis was a native of Edison, Ga., and had resided in Atlantic Beach before moving to Lake City three months ago. He was owner and operator of Ken's Enterprises of Atlantic Beach, a member of the Baptist faith and an Army Veteran of the Vietnam War.
Survivors include his wife, Lorena Vaughan Davis of Lake City; two brothers, C. Wayne Davis of Jacksonville and Billy Davis of Pelham, Ga.; one sister, Duane Kolbrecki of Harwood, Md.; and two grandchildren.
Graveside funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday, July 30, in Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens, Lake City, with the Rev. Charles Knight officiating.

Mamie Estelle Buckholts
Miss Mamie Estelle Buckholts, 86, of Lake City, died Saturday, July 28, 2001, in Kindred Hospital North Florida, Green Cove Springs, following an extended illness.
Miss. Buckholts was a native of Ray City, Ga., and had resided in Valdosta, Ga., and Olustee before moving to Lake City eight years ago. She was a homemaker and daughter of the late John F. and Beulah Ray Buckholts.
Survivors include her brother, Peter E. Buckholts of West Palm Beach; numerous nieces and nephews.
Graveside funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 31, in Pleasant Cemetery, Berrien County, Ga., with Rev. Kenneth Edenfield, Pastor of the Olustee Baptist Church, Olustee, officiating. Visitation will be from 6-9 p.m. Monday, July 30, at GUERRY FUNERAL HOME, 4309 S. First St., Lake City.

Rosie Lee Greene
Mrs. Rosie Lee Greene, 61, of Lake, died Saturday evening, July 28, 2001, in Lake City Medical Center following an extended illness.
A native of Cookeville, Tenn., Mrs. Greene had been a resident of Lake City for the past 28 years, having moved from Tennessee. Mrs. Greene was a homemaker and of the Methodist faith. Mrs. Greene enjoyed spending time with her family and spoiling her grandchildren.
Mrs. Greene is survived by her husband of 28 years, John Thomas Greene; two sons, Joey Gentry (Candace), Stockton, Calif., Chris Greene (Michelle), Lake City; a stepson, Tim Greene (Randy), Jacksonville; three stepdaughters, Linda Burnett (Frank), Nashville, Tenn., Terri Matheney, Gallatin, Tenn., Vicki Falkenstein (Jerry) Beaver, Pa.; six brothers, Floyd Matheney, Sparta, Tenn., Ed Matheney, Ormond Beach, Robert Matheney, Lake City, Wayne Matheney, Gallatin, Tenn.; Huck Matheney and Glenn Matheney, both of Baxter, Tenn.; and three sisters, Ruby Vickers, Cookeville, Tenn., Helen Davis, Gallatin, Tenn., and Shirley Burnett of Lake City; grandchildren, Caitlin Greene, Robert Jolley, Cherise Kinney, Malanie Matheney, Bruce, Richard, Jennifer and Peter Falkenstein; and four great-grandchildren.
Funeral services for Mrs. Greene will be conducted at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 1, in the Sherrill-Guerry Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Jerry Tyre officiating. Interment will follow in Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell. The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
Arrangements are under the direction of SHERRILL-GUERRY FUNERAL HOME, 616 S. Marion St., Lake City.

Louie J. Kinard
Louie J. Kinard, USAF retired, of Fort White, passed away on Friday, July 27, 2001, at Lake City Veteran's Affairs Medical Center.
Mr. Kinard was a lifetime resident of Columbia County. He served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War and was a member of the American Legion. He was a professional photographer, an avid motorcyclist, and loved flying and fishing.
He is survived by his wife of 36 years, Peggy Kinard, of Fort White; his son, Neil Kinard of Fort White; one grandson, Jeff Kinard; four brothers, Jim Stuebe, Doug Epperson, Al Alvarado and Joe Russ.
Memorial services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 1, at Fort White Church of God with the Rev. Fred McCray officiating. The family will meet with friends and relatives for lunch following the service at Goosenest Restaurant.
