William C. Sink
William C. Sink, age 80, died Sunday, September 2nd at his residence in Lake City.
Born in High Point, NC, Mr. Sink lived in Lake City for 16 years having moved from Hollywood, FL. Mr. Sink, a Methodist, worked as a machinist for Metal Masters Company in Lake City before retirement.
Mr. Sink was a WWII Navy Veteran who served in the Mediterranean campaign and was awarded the WWII Victory Medal. Mr. Sink, who was a Mason of the 32nd de-gree, enjoyed playing golf and was a devoted husband and father.
His Wife Lillian precedes Mr. Sink in death.
Surviving Mr. Sink are two daughters, Judith Sink of Pembroke Pines, FL. and Vicki de la Feuilliez of Coral Springs, FL, two step sons, Fredrick Maclean (Denise) of Lake City and James MacLean (Gail) of Hollywood, FL, thirteen grandchildren and one great grandson.

Joy Bell Smith
Mrs. Joy Bell Smith, 86, of Suwannee County, died early Monday morning in the Lake Shore Hospital following an extended illness.
A native of Danville, virginia, Mrs. Smith had been a resident of Suwannee County for the past twenty-five years, having moved here from Miami, Florida. Mrs. Smith was a homemaker and a member of the Church of Christ. Mrs. Smith enjoyed gardening and cooking.
Mrs. Smith is survived by her children, Frances Easterling (Herschel), Hinesville, Georgia; James David Smith (Sonny) Daytona Beach, Florida; Anita Evans (Bill), Hollywood, Florida; Judy Brown (Joe), Lake City; and Bobby Smith also of Lake City. Nine grandchildren, four great grandchildren, one great-great grandchild and a niece also survive.
Services for Mrs. Smith will be conducted at 2:30 p.m., Thursday, September 6, 2001, at the home of Mrs. Judy Brown with James David Smith officiating. Private family internment will follow.
Arrangements are under the direction of the BIGGS FUNERAL HOME, 3801 S. First Street, Lake City.

Helen Inez Clark
Mrs. Helen Inez Clark, 69, resident of Live Oak, Florida, died Wednesday, September 5, 2001, at her home, following a brief illness.
Mrs. Clark was a native of Chattanooga, Tennessee, daughter of the late Lloyd and Dicey Strickland and had resided in Live Oak, for most of her life. She was a homemaker and was of the Baptist faith. Mrs. Clark was a member of the Lake City Moose Lodge, and the Amer-ican Legion. She was preceded in death by her Husband, Elvoy Clark, and two sons, Johnny Fielding and George Schalitzky, Jr..
Survivors include; Two daughters, Darilyn (Jody) Espenship, of Lake City, and Denise (Doug) Wood, of Live Oak; One Son, Randy Fielding, of Brooksville; One Step-Daughter, Gayle (Harold) Phillips, of Quitman, GA.; One Step-Son, Larry Schalitzky, Sr., of Columbia, S.C Seventeen Grandchildren and
Twenty-one Great Grandchildren also survive.
Funeral services will be conducted Friday, September 7, 2001, at 11:00 A.M., in the Chapel of Guerry Funeral Home, with Rev. Curtis Thomas, pastor of the Lake City Church of God, officiating. Interment will follow in Live Oak Cemetery. The family will receive friends, Thursday, September 6, 2001, from 6 to 8 P.M., at the funeral home. Memorial donations may be made to Hospice of North Central Florida, 1900 Florida Gateway Boulevard, Lake City, Florida 32055.

Johnny Foote, age 76, resident of Lake City, Fla. died September 1, 2001 at Lake City Extended Care following an extended illness.
Born in Union South Carolina he was son of the late Mrs. Julanne & Mr. James Foote, Sr. Mr. Foote, has resided in Columbia County for the past sixty years.
Survivors include 2 daughters, Bessie Mae Foote Watts (Napoleon Smith) Lake City, Fla. and Rosemary McPhearson (Lloyd McPhearson) Rochester, N.Y.; 1 son Johnny Avinger, Jr.; step-children, Louise Brown (Alfred Brown), Willie Witt, and Charlie Avinger (Char-lene Avinger) 1 brother, James Foote, Jr. Lake City, Fla., 3 grandchildren; Gerry Foote (Cassandra Turpin Foote) Haines City, Fla., Beatrice McNeil, Lake City, Fla. and Winston Clark, Ro-chester, N.Y.; 9 great grandchildren; a host of step great grandchildren;,nieces, nephews, and friends also survive.
Funeral services for Johnny Foote, will be 1:00 p.m. Saturday September 8, 2001 at Mt. Pisgah A.M.E. Church with Rev. Mark Crutcher, pastor, officiating. Interment will follow in The Garden of Rest Cemetery.

Janice Blackwell Garrett
Mrs. Janice Blackwell Garrett, 55, resident of Lake City, Florida, died Tuesday, September 4, 2001, in the Shands at Alachua General Hospital, Gaines-ville, following a long illness.
Mrs. Garrett was a native of Chattanooga, Tennessee, and had resided in Lake City since 1962. She graduated from Columbia High School, class of 1964, and from Lake City Community College. Mrs. Garrett had been employed with the Florida Department of Transportation, as a Final Estimate Engineer, for the past 15 years. Mrs. Garrett was a member of New Life Christian Fellowship, where she had played the keyboard, and was the past President of Lake City Womens Aglow.
Survivors include; Her Husband, Bob Garrett, of Lake City; Three Daughters, Mary Chris (David) Rowe, of Lookout Mountain, Ga., and Lucinda Marie (Morgan) Smith, of Douglas, Ga., and Rebecca Faith Garrett, Tallahassee; Her Parents, Thomas F. and Mary Patton Blackwell, Jr., of Lake City; One Brother, Thomas (Becky) Blackwell, III, of Goodlettsville, Tenn.; Two Sisters, Charlotte (Don) Boyd, of Jacksonville, and Lougene (Glenn) Jernigan, of Live Oak; One Granddaughter, Kathryn Caitlin Smith, of Douglas, Ga. Seven Nephews also survive.
Funeral Services will be conducted Saturday, September 8, 2001, at 11:00 A.M., in the New Life Christian Fellowship, with Pastor Buddy Meloy, officiat-ing. Interment will follow in Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens, Lake City. George B. Jones
Mr. George B. Jones, Sr., 91, resident of Lake City, Florida, died Tuesday, September 4, 2001, in the Lake City Medical Center following a long illness.
Mr. Jones was a native of Ossining, New York, son of the late John and Gertrude Gessner Jones, and had resided in Miami, Florida, for many years, prior to moving to Lake City, in 1976.
Mr. Jones had been employed as a carpenter, was a member of the Lake City Moose Lodge, and a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Lake City.
Survivors include; His wife of 66 years, Lucy Jones, of Lake City; One son, George B. Jones, Jr., of Lake City; One Granddaughter, Kimberly Shaneyfelt, of Tallahassee.
A memorial service will be conducted Monday, September 10, 2001 at 11:30 A.M. in the First Presbyterian Church of Lake City, with Rev. Roy Martin, officiating.

Doris H. Newby
Mrs. Doris H. Newby, 82 of Lake City, Florida died August 20, 2001.
She is survived by her 3 daughters; Mary Reddick, Kathleen Pollan, Robin Newby; 9 Grandchildren ; 9 Great Grandchildren, 1 Great Great Grandchild and one son Charles Seeders.
Memorial Services will be held Saturday, September 8, 2001 at 10:00 A.M. at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church on State Road 47, with Pastor Robert Maltheim. The family will receive friendsat the Home of Mary (Cookie) immediately after the services.

Rodney Eugene Ford
Mr. Rodney Eugene Ford died Tuesday in a motorcycle accident in Ocala. he was 32.
Mr. Ford was born in Gainesville and moved to Lake Weir from Ocala two months ago. He was a contractor and painter. He was of the Baptist Faith and a graduate of Sante Fe High School.
Survivors include a daughter, Shelbi Ashian Ford of Gainesville; a son, Riley Owen Ford of Gainesville; the mother of his children, Tami Ford of Gainesville; his parents, Alfred and Eloise Fowler Ford of Gainesville; sisters Becky Hedgpeth of Kempton, PA., and Cassie Reimer of Middleburg; and his maternal grandmother, Katherine Fowler of Archer.
Funeral Services for Mr. Ford will be held on Saturday. September 8, 2001 at 2:00 P.M. at Welcome Church, CR 137, Columbia County, FL., with the Rev. David Kirkman officiating. Burial will
follow in Sallon Methodist Church Cemetery, Columbia County, FL.

Clinton W. Harper
Clinton Winterwood Harper, a resident of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania was born in Lake City, Florida. The only child of the late Wilbur Harper and Lena W. Hopson, Clinton was born on January 1, 1947. He received his formal education at Richardson High School, in Lake City, Thomas Edison High School & Temple University Philadelphia. Clinton grew into manhood after making
Philadelphia his home. Clinton became active within the civil rights movement in the 60's and 70's in the Philadelphia area.
Preceding Clinton in death were his grandmothers, Lena S. Brown, Frances Allen, sister, H. Margaret Estrada, and stepfather, Rubin Hopson. On Wednesday, September 5, 2001, the Angel of the Lord whispered into Clinton's ear, "Leave this weary land, to be with God
and wake in glorious Repose".
Survivors include: Nieces, Blondell (Joseph) Johnson, Jennie (Derek & Mi-chael) Ficklin, Lucille (Joseph) Byrden, Yamilla (Tyrone) Brown. Nephews, Arthur (Maggie) Rodriquez, Dale & Keith Rodriquez, Kevin (Tarona) Rodriquez, A host of grand nieces and nephews, cousins including Vestella Jones and Lizzie Hill and others.

Beatrice Haynes
Mrs. Beatrice Haynes, age 94, passed away on Tuesday, August 28, 2001 at Putnam Community Medical Center, in Palatka, Florida, after an extended illness.
She was the daughter of the late Rev. George Washington Goines and the step-daughter of the late Pearl Jones Goines. Mrs. Beatrice Haynes was born in Summerville, FL. Mrs. Haynes was reared in a Christian home and accepted Christ at an early age and connected herself as a very active Missionary in various churches in Dayton, Ohio. She had resided in Dayton, Ohio for many years before returning to Palatka, FL. She was well known and loved by all who came in contact with her.
Survivors include: a devoted sister, Ms. Alyce J. Caesar, Lake City, FL, two devoted nieces, Mrs. Johnnie Mae Harris (husband Pastor William Harris Jr. of Shepherd Way Outreach Ministries, Palatka, FL) and Ms. Dorothy Mae Jones, Palatka, FL. A nephew Paul Jones, Palatka, FL. Numerous cousins, other relatives, and friends.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, September 8, 2001, at Caesar's Funeral Home. The family will be excepting visitors Friday September 7, 2001 from 7pm-8pm, at Caesar's Funeral Home.

Mr. Thomas Orren Lee, Jr. 84, of 406 Fayetteville Street Parkton NC, formerly of Lake City, Florida, passed away after an extended illness.
Surviving Mr. Lee are three sons, Thomas O. LeeIII and wife Dianne of Hope Mills, N.C. Raymond J. Lee and wife Debbie of Jonesboro, Georgia, Ralph E. Lee and wife Ginger of Chesnee, S.C.; three daughters, Ramona F. Maddox -Thompson and husband Carl of Sunnyside Georgia, Vivian R. Buffington and husband Ted of Morrow, Georgia, Miriam L. Cashwell and husband Bernard of Parkton, N.C. Eighteen Grandchildren and 35 Great grandchildren.
The Funeral services will be conducted at 3:00 PM Friday, September 7, 2001 at Wallace Chapel/Saint Pauls Funeral Home in St. Pauls, NC. Burial will follow at Fayetteville Memorial Cemetery in Fayetteville, NC Officiating will be Rev. Carl Thompson and Minister of Music Rev. Marty Spena.

Ismal 'I.M." Markham
Mr. Ismal "I.M." Markham, 81, a resident of Lulu, Florida, died Wednesday, September 5, 2001, at his home.
Mr. Markham was a native and lifelong resident of Columbia County. He was a member of the Lulu Baptist Church, and had worked as an engineer for the Florida Department of Transportation for thirty-three years until his retirement.
Mr. Markham enjoyed spending time with his family, gardening, fishing, volunteering his time at church. He will forever be remembered as a devoted husband, father, papa and friend. He was preceded in death by his Wife, Ella Will Markham.
Survivors include; One daughter, Linda (Carl) Norris, of Branford, FL; Two Sons, Nevin (Renee) Markham, of Lulu, FL and Ken (Sandy) Markham, of Lake City, FL; One Sister, Vivian Bielling, of Hawthorne, FL. Nine Grandchildren and Four Great Grandchildren also survive.
Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, September 8, 2001, at 2:00 P.M., in the Chapel of Guerry Funeral Home, with Rev. Lewis Daniels, officiating, and Rev. Broderick Wilson
Broderick Wilson, age 29 resident of Lake City, Fla. died Sunday, September 2, 2001 at Memorial Hospital in Jacksonville, FLA. terminating a lengthy illness.
Born in Columbia County he was the son of the late Elaine Wilson Dix and Robert Dix, Sr.. He attended the public schools of Columbia County. being reared in a Christian home, at an early age he attended Olivet Missionary Baptist Church.
Survivors include his father, Robert Dix, Sr.; 2 brothers, Carlos Wilson and Cleveland Dix, both of Lake City, Fla.; 1 sister, Christien Dix, Lake City, Fla.; Aunts Yvonne Wilson, Tampa Fla., Betty Wallace, Chandler, Fla., Diane Peterson Taft, Tara Felder and Annie Mae Jordan; 3 Uncles, Rufus Choice & T.H. Robinson, Jr., Cleveland Dix, West Palm Beach, Fla.; a host of nieces, nephewscousins, other relatives and friends also friends also survive.

Grace Marie Witt
Mrs. Grace Marie Witt, age 85, of Lake City, Florida died Thursday, Sept. 6, at her residence following a lengthy illness.
Mrs. Witt had resided in Lake City and Columbia County all of her life. She was the daughter of the late Wade H. and Cora Robarts Criswell and the widow of the late Langdon Witt. She was employed for over 22 years with the Columbia County School System and retired as the supervisor of the cafeteria at Summers Elementary School. She was a member of the Bethlehem Lutheran Church of Columbia County.
Survivors include her daughter, Carol (Larry) Reeves of Lake City, Fla.: her son, Wayne L. (Eleanor) Witt of Clermont, Fla.: Four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren also survive.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 P.M. Sunday, Sept. 9, in the Bethlehem Lutheran Church with Rev. Wilbur Bock, pastor officiating. Interment will be in Bethlehem Lutheran Cemetery, Columbia County, Fla. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 P.M. Saturday, Sept. 8 at GUERRY FUNERAL HOME, 4309 South First Street, Lake City, Fla.

Clyde Register
Clyde Register, longtime businessman and shoe repairman, was "Promoted to Glory" on September 5, 2001 in Pensacola. He was 73. He and his wife, Nell, came to Pensacola in the late 60's. They opened a repair shop on the corner of Davis and Selina and he went to work for Town and Country Shoe Repair, which they later bought. After 8 years at the Mall, the Registers relocated at corner of "S" and Herman Streets where it remained for 28 years.
Nell Register was "Promoted to Glory" in 1972. He was also preceded in death by his parents, Minnie and Houston Register, two brothers, Houston and Ivey Register, two sisters, Mamie Jenkins and Sara King; all of Lake City.
Mr. Register had served his Lord in many local churches, including Victory Bible Baptist church, Full Gospel Worship Center and Miracle Church of God in Christ.
Survivors include his present wife, Nancy; two sons, Jimmy of Jasper, Fl and Richard of Lake City; daughter, Joyce Ann of Lake City and one special friend, Pam of Lake Butler, FL; numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren; brother Bryant (Joyce) Register of Ocala and sister, Beckie Bailey of Hollywood, FL; step sons, Clem (Brenda) and Chris (Jan) Furr; four step-daughters, Betsy (Jerry) Blackwell, and Angie (Patrick) Schlobohm and stepdaughters born to Nell, Vivian Ford and Joreen Hinkofer of Moore Haven, FL and a special grandson, Frank Hinkofer of Midway, FL. and many nieces and nephews in Hollywood, FL and Lake City.
Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m., Monday, September 10, 2001 at Faith Chapel Funeral Home South with Brother Walter Miller and Brother Robert Reierson officiating. Interment will follow at Barrancas National Cemetery. Pallbearers will be family members. Family will receive friends at Faith Chapel from 7 to 9 PM Sunday Sept. 9.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Baptist Foundation. Faith Chapel Funeral Home, 100 Beverly Pkwy, is in charge of arrangements.

Nellie Jane Daye
Mrs. Nellie Jane Daye, age 98, of Lake City, Florida died Thursday, Sept. 6. 2001 in the Lake City Extended Care Center, Lake City, Fla. following a long illness.
Mrs. Daye was a native of Desoto County, Florida and had resided in Tallahassee, Fla. before moving to Lake City, Fla in 1991. She was a homemaker and member of the Pleasant Grove Methodist Church in Columbia County, Fla, She was the widow of the late Jesse Clyde Daye and was preceded in death by her daughter and son-in-law, Eva and Charles H. Sherwood.
Survivors include two granddaughters, Mary Ruth Campbell of Canton, Ga and Gladys Jane Crum of Germany: Seven great-grandchildren also survive.
Graveside funeral services will be con-ducted at 3 P.M. Monday, Sept. 10, in the Oak Hill Cemetery, Lakeland, Fla.

Wiliam F. "Billy" Prokop, Jr. 44, a resident of Ft. White, FL. died Friday, September 7, 2001.
A memorial service will be held in memory of William F. "Billy" Prokop, Jr on Wednesday, September 12, 2001 at 10:00 A.M. at Lake City Church of Christ, 3614 South. SR 47, Lake City, FL.

Frances Louise Cason Green
Mrs. Frances Louise Cason Green, 77, a resident of Lake City, Florida, died Monday, September 10, 2001 peacefully in her sleep at her home, following a brief illness.
Mrs. Green was born May 11, 1924, in Gilchrist County, Florida, and had resided in Lake City, since 1940. She was preceded in death by her Husband, of 42 years Ernest S. Green, by one Son, Gordon Green, and by one Brother, Amby Cason. Mrs. Green had retired from Metal Products in 1963, and from K-Mart in 1991, She was an active member of Mt. Carmel Baptist Church.
Survivors include; her children and their spouses, John (Helen) Green, of Melbourne, Fla., Horace (Debbie) Green, of Columbus, Ga., Mary Frances (Ronnie) Johnson, of Lake City, Allie Mae (Lee) Hellyer, of Lake City, Norman (Penny) Green, of Lake City, Nathan (Sherrie) Green, of Lake City, Annette Prassee, of Gainesville, and Lowell (Deneen) Green, of Lake City. She has 24 Grandchildren and 22 Great-Grandchildren; Two Sisters, Vera Strickland and Gladys Hilliard, both of Branford. Louise also extended her heart and home to Gary and Helen Spann, Woody Christie, Charlie Parnell, Joyce Green Rives, and Special Friends, Margaret Mick and Shirley Mullens. During her illness she was cared for by her children and Hospice of North Central Florida.
Funeral services will be conducted Thursday, September 13, 2001, at 2:00 P.M., in the Mt. Carmel Baptist Church, with Dr. Stanley Reedy, church pastor, officiating, with a Eulogy given by Mr. Charlie Parnell. Interment will follow in Corinth Cemetery, Lake City. Dr. Daniel I. "D.I." Phillips
Dr. Daniel I. Phillips, 79, a resident of Alachua, Florida died Friday September 14, 2001 at the V.A. Medical Center in Gainesville, Florida.
Dr. Phillips was born in White Springs, Florida and had lived in the North Florida area for over 50 years. He was a member of the Westwood Hills Church of God, Gainesville, Fl. He was a retired Church of God Minister and also a pastor of many churches in the area including Gainesville, Frost Proof and Cross City. He was founder of the High Springs Church of God, and he was also a veteran of the Army Air Corp from WWII.
Survivors include his daughters Joyce Pace, Alachua, Fl., Regina Cain, Alachua, Fl., sons David Phillips, Gainesville, Fl., Derryl Phillips, Gainesville, Fl., brother A.D. Phillips, Gainesville, Fl., Grandchildren Duane Pace, Gary Pace, Wesley Cain, Caleb Cain, Josh Phillips, Kristin Phillips, Jack Phillips, Kim Bulla & Barbara Brooks and 10 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his Essie Louise Phillips.
