Mr. Colen M. Crews, 50, of Lake City died Sunday afternoon at the North Florida Regional Medical Center in Gainesville after a brief illness.
Mr. Crews was born in Lake Butler and lived most of his life in Union County. He was employed with Williams LP Gas Company of Worthington Springs.
Mr. Crews is survived by His Wife: Martha Horton Crews of Lake City. 1 Daughter: Joye Parker of Lake Butler. 1 Son: Brian Crews of Lake City. His Mother: Noreen Dukes Crews of Lake Butler. 3 Sisters: Elaine Lewis of Quitman, Georgia; Ethelia Perry, and Sharon Berry both of Orange Park. 1 Brother: Edwin Crews of Alachua. 2 Grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, September 19, 2001 at 2:00 P.M. in the Chapel of Archer Funeral Home of Lake Butler with Elder Jimmy Thornton officiating. Burial will follow at Ft. Call Cemetery near Worthington Springs. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Tuesday evening from 6 P.M. to 8 P.M.

Gladys Bristow Gillen
Mrs. Gladys Bristow Gillen, 92, of Lakeland, Florida, died late Sunday evening in the Mariner Nursing Home in Tampa, following and extended illness.
A native of Theresa, Florida, Mrs. Gillen had been a resident of Lakeland for many years having moved to the area from Lake City, Florida. Mrs. Gillen was the widow of the late Joseph Gillen, former Lake City attorney and Assistant Attorney General of the State of Florida. Mrs. Gillen was a homemaker and was a member of the College heights United Methodist Church in Lakeland, Florida. She loved to play bridge and do yard work.
Mrs. Gillen is survived by her son, Mr. Guy Gillen of Tampa, Florida; four grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Graveside funeral services for Mrs. Gillen will be conducted at 2:00 P.M. Wednesday. September 19, 2001, in Memorial Cemetery in Lake City, Florida, with the Rev. Robert Atchley officiating. Interment will follow.
Arrangements are under the direction of the BIGGS FUNERAL HOME, 3801 S First St., Lake City.

Robert Allen Titus
Robert Allen Titus, 64, died Sunday, September 16, 2001 at North Florida Regional Hospital from an extended illness.
Mr. Titus was born in Newbury Port, Massachusetts. Moving to Lake City Florida from Largo, Florida in 1996. He was retired from the Department of Veterans Affair in Bay Pines, Florida where he was a Licensed PracticalNurse.
Mr. Titus is survived by his wife, Wanda Titus, Lake City, FL., One son, Christopher Titus, Rocky River, OH; One daughter, Nancy Laliberte, Epping, New Hampshire; 3 Brothers, Archie Titus, CoosBay, Oregon, Paul Titus, Maryville, TN., Harold Titus (Louise), Ft. Meade, FL; 1 Sister, Muriel Green, Mine Hill, New Jersey.

Charles Fredrick Beech
Mr. Charles Fredrick Beech 57, resident of Lake City, FL. died Sunday, September 16, 2001 at North Florida Regional Medical Center in Gainesville, FL.
He was born and raised in Madison, In-diana and graduated from Madison High School. He was in the U.S. Navy serving in Vietnam. He had resided in Lake City for eighteen years. He was employed with the City of Lake City as a water plant operator. He was a mem-ber of The American Legion and Moose Lodge in Lake City. He was of the Mis-sionary Baptist Faith. He was preceded in death by his father, George Beech, Sr. and one brother, Robert Beech.
He is survived by his wife, Martha Henry Saunders Beech of Lake City, FL, His mother Thelma Beech of Madison, IN, one son, Sidney Saunders of Jacksonville and three Daughters, Cindy and Jenny Saunders both of Lake City and Vickey Saunders of Palm Harbor, FL. Two Brothers, Jerry Beech of Madison, Indiana, and George Beech, Jr. of Carroliton, KY. three Sisters, Anna Hanna, Daisy Croxton and Louise Kinman all of Madison, Indiana. Four Grandchildren and one Great-Grandchild also survive.
Graveside Funeral Services will be conducted at 11:00 A.M., Friday, Septem-ber 21, 2001 at Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Lake City, FL with Rev. Sydney George Blay
Mr. Sydney George Blay, age 84, of Lake City, Florida, died Monday, Sept. 17, 2001 at his home.
He was born Brunswick, Georgia on June 27, 1917, and lived in Lake City for the past 53 years. He was the son of the late Harry and Mary Blay. He was a member of the first Baptist Church of Lake City, where he served as a Deacon and was a member of the John Gable Sunday School Class. He was a member of the local Elk's Club, where he served for many years as Secretary and was named Elk of the Year in 1992-93. He was a long time member of the Columbia High School Quarterback Club, serving as President in 1966 and operating the scoreboard for local football games for over twenty years. Soon after graduat-ing from Glen Academy in Brunswick and upon the outbreak of World War II, he joined the United States Navy. He served as an Aviation electrician during both World War II and the Korean War. In 1977 he retired from a long career with the United States Postal Service. During his retirement, he worked part time at Brown Framing in Lake City.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Mrs. Frances Jane Blay, two daughters, Mary Frances "Tuckie" Brown Lake City, and Georgia (Josh) Jordan of Tallahassee, Fla. and six grandchildren, William "Hunt" Abney of Jacksonville, Fla., George Blay Abney of Washington, D.C., Jason (Jayme) Roper, Caroline (Glenn) Tindale, Clarence Brown, III and Sheesley Jordan all of Tallahassee, Fla. He is also survived by niece Bonnie (Bill) Hairrell III of Point Clear, Ala., and their ten children.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 A.M. Thursday, Sept. 20, in the First Baptist Church of Lake City, with Rev. Troy Varnum and Rev. Robert Davis, presiding. interment will be in Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens, Lake City, Fla. The family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8:30 P.M. Thelma P. Fallon
Thelma P. Fallon, 93, of Clearwater, Florida, formally of Lake City, FL., died Saturday, September 15, 2001.
Born in Roda, Va., She moved to Clearwater in 1999 from Lake City, FL. where she lived for over 35 years. She worked as a Licensed Practical Nurse and she was a member of the Eastern Star for over 50 years currently with Grace Chapter #8 DES.
She is survived by her son, Robert Fallon of Clearwater, FL, 2 Daughters, Betty Brady of Cherokee, N.C. and Ailene Harn of Clearwater, FL., and 2 Brothers, Walter Pickering of Colorado Springs, CO., and Douglas Pickering Greenville, TN., 13 grandchildren and 18 Great-Grandchildren.

Grace Lovely Richter
Mrs. Grace Lovely Richter, 93, resident of Winter Haven, Florida, died Monday, September 17, 2001, at her home, following an extended illness.
Mrs. Ritcher was a native of Kentucky, daughter of the late Dixon and Fadie Lovely and had resided in Winter Haven for the past two years. She had resided in Lake City, since 1981. Mrs. Ritcher was a member of Bethel United Methodist Church since 1983, and served as Music Director for several years. She was the widow of the late Paul Ritcher.
Survivors include many Nieces and Nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted Thursday, September 20, at 2 P.M. in the Bethel United Methodist Church, with Rev. Ken Hamilton, Pastor, officiating. Interment will follow in Forest

Joe Witt Roberts, Jr.
Mr. Joe Witt Roberts, Jr., age 54, of Lake City, Fla. died Monday, Sept. 17, at his residence following an extended illness.
Mr. Roberts had resided in Lake City, Fla. all of his life. he worked in the traffic dept. of the Dept. of Transportation, Lake City, Fla. for twenty years and also retired with The Florida National Guard after 20 years of service. He was a member of the First Advent Christian Church, Lake City, Fla. and was a dedicated donor with the American Red Cross.
Survivors include his father, Joe W. (Rita) Roberts, Sr. of Lake City, Fla.: His mother, Helen Kathryn Smith of Lake City, Fla.: Three sisters, Martha Waldron and Marilyn Williams both of Lake City, Fla. and Carolyn Griffin of Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla.; One brother, Keith Smith of Live Oak, Fla.: One step-brother, Ronnie Brown of Lake City, Fla.

Helen Marie Burridge
Mrs. Helen Marie Burridge, 84, resident of Lake City, Florida, died Wednesday, September 19, 2001, at her, following a long illness. Mrs. Burridge was a native of Ohio, daughter of the late Clarence and Emma Niehaus, and had resided in Orlando, Florida, for many years, prior to moving to Lake City, in 1975. Mrs. Burridge was a retired Legal Secretary, having worked for the law firm of Maguire, Voorhees, and Wells, of Orlando. She was a member of Epiphany Catholic Church, and had been the church organist for many years.
Survivors include; her Husband of Sixty-three years, Harry J. Burridge, of Lake City; One Son, Harry J. Burridge, Jr. of Palatka; Two Daughters, Barbara Herzog, of Tallahassee, and Beatrice L.Burridge, of Lake City; One Sister, Florence Groves, Cincinnati, Ohio; Twelve Grandchildren and Nine Great Grandchildren also survive.
A funeral mass will be conducted Saturday, September 22, 2001, at 10:30 A.M., in the Epiphany Catholic Church, with Father George Kuruvilla, C.M.I., officiating. Interment will follow in Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens, Lake City.

Alphonso Maxwell
Alphonso Maxwell, age 30 resident of Ft. Walton Beach, Fla. and former resident of Lake City died Saturday Sept. 15, in Okaloosa County.
Survivors include his mother, Mary Maxwell; step-father, Clarence Green; 1 son Dionnis Maxwell; brothers, Stanley, Lance Jerome, Buzzy, and Lawrance Maxwell, sisters, Amy, Alferlonder; Grandmothers, Matrice Maxwell; Amy Maxwell, Alferlonder Maxwell Kelsey; Aunts, Ida Mae Dixon, Annette Witcher, Gloria Witcher, Brooks Maxwell; uncles, Linsel Witcher, Fredrick Maxwell, Andrew Witcher, Randolph Max-well, Jimmy Lee Witcher, Glenne Witcher, Dewight Maxwell, Elijah Maxwell, Hubert Maxwell and Bubba Henry Donaldson; Special close friend, Roshundra Hubbard; Devoted friend; Marcus Morgan; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends also survive.

Deborah Mae McDaniels
Deborah Mae McDaniels, age 49, of Okeechobee, died Monday, September 17, 2001 at Tampa General Hospital in Tampa, Florida. Born October 20, 1951 in Miami, Florida, Mrs. McDaniels had been a resident of Okeechobee for five years.
Preceded in death by her mother, Louise Pearson. Survivors include her husband, John McDaniels of Okeechobee; one son, Jeremy Johnson of Jacksonville; one daughter, Tracy Liebel of Corpus Christi, Texas; grandson, Jarred Nash of Corpus Christi, Texas and Michael Johnson of Okeechobee; granddaughters, Brittiney Nash of Lake City, Florida; father, Aaron Pearson of Okeechobee; brother Aaron D. Pearson, Jr. of Sycamore, Illinois; and sister, Teena Moore of St. Cloud, Florida.
A memorial service will be conducted at the Buxton Funeral Home on Friday September 21, 2001 at 6:00 p.m.All arrangements are under the direction and care of the Buxton Funeral home and Crematory.

Tony Nathan Eugene Stone
Tony Nathan Eugene Stone, 34, died Tuesday, September 18, 2001 in Crossville Tennessee.
Tony Stone was born October 9, 1966 and resided in Lake City, Florida until moving to Crossville, Tennessee four years ago. Mr. Stone was of the Baptist faith and enjoyed playing, singing and recording music.
Mr. Stone was preceded in death by his father, Lawrence Stone. Survivors his mother, Jessline Stancil; his wife, Loretta Lynn Stone; three brothers, Lawrence Stone, Rome, Georgia, Gary L. Stone and Ricky Lee Stone, both of Lake City, Florida. Also surviving are five nephews and one niece.
A memorial service will be held in honor of Mr. Stone on Saturday, Septem-ber 22, 2001 11:00 A.M. in the SherrillGuerry Memorial Chapel. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday, September 21, 2001 from 5:00-8:00 P.M. Verisa Daniel ("Dannie") Miller
Verisa Daniel ("Dannie") Miller passed away on Wednesday, September 19, 2001 after a long illness at Presbyterian Village in Atlanta, Georgia. Mrs. Miller left the farm in Ocilla, Georgia for Atlanta in 1937. By the time she was 25, she owned two beauty shops in Atlanta and had a third shop under contract. After seeing an ad in the paper in Miami, Florida for Pan American airline stewardesses, she sold her business and flew internationally until she met her husband, Charlie Miller, over Cuba. As an account executive in the tire industry, Mr. Miller and Mrs. Miller lived in Philippines, Ohio and Jacksonville, Florida until they settled on their much-loved 1,000-acre farm, "Dannie Farms," in Wellborn, Florida. Mrs. Miller (Dannie) was preceded in death by her husband.
Survivors include a son, Charles S. ("Dusty") Miller, III of Wellborn, FL; a daughter, Dora A. Miller, of Atlanta, Ga; two grandsons, Charles S. ("Garrett") Miller, IV and Christopher Kyle Miller, both of Wellborn; and two sisters, Gladys Hunter and Lucile Griffin, both of Ocilla, Georgia. A graveside service will be conducted for Mrs. Miller on Monday, September 24, 2001 in the Wellborn Cemetery at 1:00 P.M. with the Rev. Edwin F. Montgomery officiating. Mrs. Edna Markham Tyre, age 79, of Lake City, Fla. died Wednesday, Sept. 19, at her residence following an extended illness. Mrs. Tyre had resided in Lake City, Fla. all of her life, was the daughter of the late Homer and Lorene Weeks Markham and the widow of the late Ray L. Tyre, She was a homemaker and a member of the Southside Baptist Church, Lake City, Fla. Survivors include her daughter, Rita (Andy) Dulina of Villa Rica, Ga.; her son, Ronnie (Janet) Tyre of Lake City, Fla.; One brother, Tommy Markham of Lake City, Fla.; Three Grandchildren, Jeff (GiGi) Tyre of Lake City, Fla., Kelli Tyre of Gainesville, Fla. and Christian (Sarah) Dulina of Virginia Beach, Va.; Two great-grandchildren, Morgan Tyre and Nicholas Tyre both of Lake City, Fla.

AMANDA S. BROWN
Amanda S. Brown, 80, of Lake City, Fla., died Wednesday, Sept. 19, 2001, at Lake City Extended Care. She was the widow of Roy H. Brown. She was born April 21, 1921, in Johnson City, Ga. to John L. And Maggie Bell Smith Stewart.
Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Shirley B. and Richard Thomas of Lake City, Fla; a son and daughter-n-law the Rev. Wayne H. and Debbie Brown of Howell, Mich.; a sister Pearl Veal of Rincon, Ga.; four grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; three step grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
A funeral will be held Saturday at 1 P.M. at Vaughan-Guynn Funeral Home with burial in the Monta Vista Cemetery. The Revs. Wayne Brown and Ted Bartlett will officiate.

Melton T. Byrd
Melton T. Byrd, 84, longtime Lake City resident passed away Thursday at Lake City Medical center following a long illness. He was a native of Jasper having moved to Lake City in 1951. At such time he was employed as a automobile salesman at Wood Motors Studebaker dealership and later was employed some 23 years and Summers Chevrolet. He was a member and deacon at First Baptist Church in Lake City. He was married for 60 years to Ruby Williams Byrd.
Survivors include, in addition to his wife, one brother: Carlton Byrd, Live Oak, four sisters: Mazie Jones & June Warfield both of Lake City, Jimmie Dupree Jacksonville, Iris Davis, Jackson, Michigan, five nieces and eight nephews.
Memorial service will be conducted at 3:00 p.m. Wednesday September 26th at Sherrill-Guerry Memorial Chapel in Lake City with rev. Troy Varnum Officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Evans-Carter Funeral Home of High Springs.

Farrell W. Rogers
Mr. Farrell W. Rogers, 73, #2, Northumberland, September 20, 2001 at Evangelical Hospital, Lewisburg, PA. He was born in Branford, FL, June 11m 1928, the son of the late Charles M. and Lula Hall Rogers. He and the former Mary Geiser of Sunbury, PA, were married on June 12, 1955 in Lake City, FL. He was employed by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, serving Puerto Rico and Washington D.C. for 31 years and retired to Northumberland, PA in 1983. He was a 1946 graduate of Mason High School, Lake City, FL and attended The George Washington University in Washington D.C. He served in the U.S. Army (Cpl.) from 1946 to 1947 at Ft. Bragg, NC and received the World War II Victory Medal. An avid gardener, especially fond of flowers, he had a background in floral design which led him to win numerous awards in local and state floral competitions. Mr. Rogers was a members St. John's Lutheran Church in Northumberland, PA, and a member of the Ben Burns Sunday School and Church Council. He was a member of Eureka Lodge #404 F. & AM. and the Williamsport Consistory. He was a member of the Northumberland County Historical Society, Sons of the Confederate Veterans, Descendants of the Florida Pioneers, The Florida Genealogical Society and the Society of F.B.I. Alumni.
Survivors in addition to his wife are two sons, Thomas W. and his wife Barbara of Rockville, Maryland, and Keith F and his wife Dawna of Edgewater, MD. He also leaves three grandchildren, Heather, Davy and Danielle Rogers; four brothers, Charles M., Clarence K., Odell L of Lake City, FL and the Rev. F.T. Rogers of Perry, FL; one sister, Anne R. Lamborn of Wilmington, DE. He was preceded in death by one brother, Austin, in infancy.
Visitation will be held at Joe Eppler Funeral Home in Northumberland, PA between 7 and 9 p.m. Sunday evening, September 23, with Masonic Service to follow. Funeral services will be conducted from St. John's Lutheran Church by Rev. Jack Snook and Pastor Gunter Bernhardt on Monday, September 24 at 11:00 a.m. internment will follow at Pomfret Manor Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. John's Lutheran Church, Northumberland, PA.

Uldene Walker Guy
Mrs. Uldene Walker Guy, 83, passed away Saturday, September 22, 2001 at Grace Heathcare of Lakeland following a long illness. She was born April 2, 1918 in Ft. Pierce, FL, and she was former resident of Lake City, FL. She is survived by her husband Dick Guy.
She held a management position for five different telephone companies in five different cities. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Lakeland, a member of the Homebuilders Sunday School class, a member of Circle #, past president of Sorority, member of Telephone Pioneers of America, member of the United Daughters of the Confederacy and Gardenia Circle of Lakeland Garden Club.
Survivors include, in addition to her husband, one brother: Donald R. (Helen) Walker, Tallahassee, and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held Monday, September 24, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Heath Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Tuesday, September 25 at First United Methodist Church chapel. Burial services will be Riverview Memorial Park, Fort Pierce, FL at 3 p.m.
Memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church, 72 Lake Morton Drive, Lakeland, FL.

Samuel Albert Elder
Mr. Samuel Albert Elder, 81, of Lake City, died Saturday, Sept. 22, 2001.
A native of Powelton, Ga., Mr. Elder had lived in Jacksonville for thirty years pri-or to moving to Lake City eight years ago. He was retired from Civil Service as a photographer. Mr. Elder was a Navy veteran of WWII and a Baptist. He was a member of the D.A.V. and NARFE.
Survivors include two sons: Wendell and David, one daughter Kay Lord and three grandchildren.
Graveside services for Mr. Elder will be conducted at 1:00 P.M. Tuesday in the Riverside Memorial Park with interment following. Viewing will be one hour prior to service at the graveside. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Disaster Relief Fund.

Minnie Knight Harvey, 55, a resident of Lake City, Florida, died Sunday, September 23,2001 in Live Oak, Florida after an extended illness.
Mrs. Harvey was a life-long resident of Lake City, Florida. She was preceded in death by her husband, Calvin Harvey, and sister, Hazel Dorsey.
Survivors include: two daughters, Luca Harvey, Lake City, Florida and Lucille & (Bobby) Dessel, Sitka, Alaska; one son: Lucky Harvey, Lake City, Florida; one sister: Shirley Swilley, Lake City, Florida; two brothers: Hubert Knight, Houston, Texas and Gerald Knight, Atlanta, Georgia. Also surviving are six grandchildren and one great grandchild.
Graveside services will be conducted for Mrs. Harvey on Tuesday, September 25, 2001 at 10:00 A.M. in the Bethlehem Baptist Cemetery, Lake City, Florida with the Rev. J.B. "Tank" Ogburn officiating. SHERRILL-GUERRY FUNERAL HOME is in charge of all arrangements.

Bessie Elizabeth Wiggins Wilkes
Mrs. Bessie Elizabeth Wiggins Wilkes, 85, of Lake City, died early Monday morning, September 24, 2001, in the Lake City Medical Center following a brief illness.
A native of Waycross, Georgia, Mrs. Wilkes was educated and graduated from the school system in Waycross prior to moving to Lake City in 1939. Mrs. Wilkes served as the secretary of the First Baptist Church of Lake City for forty-five years. She was a very active member of the First Baptist Church and in the Charity Sunday School Class, the Wednesday Night Supper Committee and the Historical Committee of the church. Mrs. Wilkes was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star. Mrs Wilkes was preceded in death in 1985 by her husband of forty-four years, Mr. Air N. Wilkes.
Mrs. Wilkes is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Charles & Joanne Wilkes, Columbia, South Carolina; John & Patty Wilkes, Robbinsville, North Carolina; a daughter and son-in-law,Virginia & Robert Jolly, Hickory, North Carolina; a brother Charles Wiggins (Terry), Sebring, Florida; and a sister, Mrs. Ruby Decker of Fort Myers, Florida, Six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren also survive.
Funeral services for Mrs. Wilkes will be conducted at 10:00 A.M., Wednesday, September 26, 2001, in the First Baptist Church with the Rev. Carson Brittain, Rev. Robert Davis and Rev. Troy Varnum officiating. Interment will follow in Memorial Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5-7 Tuesday evening at the funeral home. Arrangements are under the direction of the BIGGS FUNERAL HOME, 3801 S. First Street, Lake City.

Earl "Buddy" Cornelius Martin, Jr
Mr. Earl "Buddy" Cornelius Martin, Jr., 37, resident of Cincinnati, Ohio, died Monday, September 24, 2001, at his home.
Mr. Martin was a native of Fort White, Florida, and had moved from Fort White, Florida and had resided in Marietta, Georgia for the past fifteen years, where he was employed by General Electric as a computer operator in graphics. Mr. Martin had moved to Cincinnati, Ohio, thirty days prior to his death. Mr. Martin was preceded in death by his Grandparents, John and Mary Hudson Martin and Joe and Mattie Vann Lampp, Sr.
Survivors include; his parents, Mattie Lampp and Earl Martin, Sr., Two brothers, Roy Z. Martin and (Tennile) of Richmond, Virginia, and Scott and (Renee) Martin, of Pendleton, Oregon. One nephew and niece also survive.
Funeral services will be conducted Friday, September 28, 2001, at 10:00 A.M. in the Chapel of Guerry Funeral Home, with the Rev. James West, Pastor of Mt. Horeb Baptist Church of Gilchrist
County officiating. Interment will follow in the Fort White Cemetery. The family will receive friends, Thursday, September 27, 2001, from 6 to 8 P.M. at the funeral home. GUERRY FUNERAL HOME, 4309 South First Street, Lake City, Florida, is in charge of all arrangements.
