Mr. Farris G. "Buddy" Russell, age 69, a resident of Lake City, FL passed awaySunday, January 20, 2002.
Mr. Russell was a member of Church of Christ, a Navy Veteran, and a lifetime member of American Legion Post #3, Bartow, FL.
He was a Plant Supervisor for Occidental Chemical Co for 32 years.
Mr. Russell is survived by, Son, Jack R. Russell of Lake City, FL; Daughter-in-law, Rhonda B. Russell of Lake City, FL; Son, Timothy L. Russell of Lake City, FL; Daughter-in-law, Beth K. Russell of Lake City, FL; Brother, Harold B. Russell of Charleston, SC; Brother Fred C. Russell of Bartow, FL; Sister, Rosemary R. Burnett of Winter Haven, FL; Sister Betty R. Jerome V. Tyre
Jerome V. Tyre, Sr., 83, who was a bureau chief for the Department ofMotor Vehicles of Florida, died Saturday, January 19, 2002, at his home.
He is survived by his wife, Julia Lee Tyre of Tallahassee.
The services will be at 2 p.m. Tues-day at Thomasville Road Baptist Church. With burial at Culley's MeadowWood Memorial Park. Arrangements handled by Culley's MeadowWood Funeral Home, Riggins Road Chapel. (850-877-8191)
Jerome was born January 31, 1918, to Owen J. and Ethel Tyre in Lake City where he was raised with six brothers and seven sisters. In 1943 he married Julia Lee Smith of Lake City and moved to Tallahassee retiring after 36 years as chief of registration. He also worked with Avis for 22 years until the present. He was a veteran, having served in the U.S. Army. He had been a member of the Thomasville Road Baptist Church since 1955.
Survivors include his Wife of 59 years, Julia Lee Tyre; his sons and their wives, Danny J. and Deborah of Hahira, Ga., Jerome V. Jr. and Linda of Tallahassee and Paul Lee and fiancee Lynn Kinsey of Talla-hassee; three grandchildren,Jeremy, stationed with the U.S. Air Force in Korea, Shelly of Hahira and Kelley of Tallahassee; six sisters Louise Eddings, Beatrice Hunter, Inez Waller, Julia Harnage and Margeline Hines all of Lake City and Ernestine Peacon of Augusta, Ga., and two brothers, Clarence Tyre of Jacksonville and Buford Tyre of Lake City.

John Jiles Ellis
John Jiles Ellis, 84, a resident of Lake City, Florida died Monday, January 21, 2002 at the Shands at Lake Shore Hospital.
Mr. Ellis was a real Son of a Confederate Soldier. He is the son of the late William Riley and Ola Ellis. He was a native of Columbia County and a member of the Salem Primitive Baptist Church, Lake City. He had lived in Lutz, Florida for most of his life. He is preceded in death by Gladys Ellis, two Sisters: Mary Jane Bryant and Gertrude Crews Three Brothers: Riley Ellis, Ben Ellis and Grover Ellis. Mr. Ellis was a Kind, Loving and Caring man who enjoyed his family and friends, working outside and tending his garden.
Survivors include one daughter: Betty (Trez) Neeley, Lutz, Florida, three grandchildren: Jiles David (Donna) Neeley, Lutz, Florida, Debbie (Jim) Garcia, Indian Shores, Florida and Danny(Wendy) Neeley, Lutz, Florida. Six Great Grandchildren Jamie, Mandy, Shawn, Melissa, Anthony and Megan. One Great, Great Grandchild Shelby and so many Loving and Caring Nieces and Nephews it is impossible to name.
Funeral services will be conducted Thursday January 24, 2002 at 11:00
A.M. in the Salem Primitive Baptist Church with the Elder Herman Griffin, officiating. Interment will follow in the Salem Primitive Baptist Church with the Elder Herman Griffin, officiating. Ernest Emory Hicks
Mr. Ernest Emory Hicks, 50, resident of Lake City, Florida, died Monday, January 21, 2002, in the Shands at Lake Shore Hospital, following along illness.
Mr. Hicks was a native and lifelong resident of Lake City, Florida, son of the late Thomas E. and Dessie Mae Feagle Hicks. He was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church.
Survivors include; One brother, Everett (JoAnne) Hicks, of Lake City; One Step-Brother, Randall Barber, of Lake City.
Funeral services will be conducted Thursday, January 24, 2002, at 10:00 A.M., in the Bethelem Lutheran Church with Rev. J.B. "Tank" Ogburn, Jr., officiating. Interment will follow in Bethelem

Helen Louise Wisener
Helen Louise Wisener, 82, resident of Lake City, Florida, died Sunday, January 20, 2002, at her home, following a brief illness.
Mrs. Wisener was a native of Indianapolis, Indiana, daughter of the late Vernon and Mary Shelley Nushawg. Mrs. Wisener had resided for many years in Ft. Lauderdale, where she was a member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church. After death of her Husband, Mr. Albert Wisener, she moved to Gainesville, where she was employed for many years as a bookkeeper in the Dept. of Purchasing and Disbursement for the University of Florida, until her retirement in 2000. Mrs. Wisener will be remembered for her love of sewing, playing piano and flowers, but most especially, her family.
Survivors include; Two sons, Ronald L. Wisener, of High Springs, and Gerald A. Wisener, of Lake City; Two Grandsons, Ronnie Wisener and David Wisener, both of High Springs; One Great Grand- daughter, Madison Wisener, of High Springs.
Funeral services will be conducted Friday, January 25, 2002, at 1:00 P.M., in the Chapel of Guerry Funeral Home, with Father George Kuruvilla, CMI, officiating. Interment will follow in Tustenuggee

P.M. (Bud) Giebeig
Mr. P.M. (Bud) Giebeig, age 85, resident of Lake City, Florida, died at his residence on January 23, 2002 following a brief illness.
He was born in Cape May, New Jersey, moved to Florida at an early age and was the son of the late Peter Paul and Mary James Giebeig. He graduated from Columbia High School (Class of 1934). He was a building contractor for over 50 years, a City Commissioner in Lake City form
May 1957 to May 1961, and a member of the City Planning & Zoning Board and Lake City Board of Adjustment from November 19, 1979 to December 5, 1995.
He was predeceased by his wife of 62 years, Iris Parker Giebeig.
Survivors by a son, James C. (Shirley) Giebeig Sr. of Lake City, a daughter, Olivia (Glenn) Adams of Lake City, a sister, Ruth Petrucci of San Francisco, CA; 3 grandchildren Alisa Bergmann of Jacksonville, FL, Curt Giebeig of Carrolton, GA and Sean Adams of Lake City and 5 great grandchildren.

Gladys Marie Rivers
Mrs. Gladys Marie Rivers, age 70, of Lake City, Fla. died Thursday, Jan. 24, in the Shands at Lake Shore Hospital, Lake City, Fla. following an extended illness.
Mrs. Rivers had resided in Lake City all of her life and was the daughter of the late Lindsey C. and Clifford Dorminey Jenkins. She worked for Metal Products of Lake City, Fla. for 31 years and retired as a quality control supervisor in 1992. She also was a driver for Parrish Medivan of Lake City, Fla. for over three years. She attended the Evergreen Baptist Church of Suwannee County, Fla.
Survivors include her husband, Dolphus C. Rivers, Sr. of Lake City, Fla.: Two daughters, Barbara Jean (Stephen) Roberts of Tallahassee, Fla. and Beverly Ann (Jack) Watson of Lake City, Fla.: One son, Johnnie (Bill) Norris and his wife Connie of Lake City, Fla.: Three step-sons, Dolphus C. (Carolyn) Rivers, Jr. and David (Debbie) Rivers both of Glen St. Mary and James (Marion) Rivers of Jacksonville, Fla.: Five sisters, Bertie Lee Dasher of Palatka, Fla., Zilla Cribbs, Lorene Parrish, Eula Mae Milton and Mearl Milton all of Lake City, Fla., One brother, H.M. "Buster" Jenkins of Lake City, Fla.: Eight grand-children and six great-grandchildren also survive.

Tonnja Milligan Tomlin
Tonnja Milligan Tomlin, age 34 resident of 126 Anderson Street, Lake City, Fla. died Monday, January 21, 2002 at her residence terminating a brief illness. She was the daughter of Annie Ruth Milligan and Tommie Lee Kellum.
She was loved by many, as she touched many lives with her warm smile and kind heart. She received her education in the Columbia County School System. Graduate of Columbia High School in 1985, and received a Bachelor Degree in Education from the University of Florida, Gainesville, FL. She was a math teacher at Niblack Middle School, and Hamilton County School System, until health problems. She was united in holy matrimony to Mr. Richy Tomlin.

Robert G. Seever
Robert G. Seever, 81, a resident of Lake City, Florida died, Friday, January 25, 2002 in Gainesville, Florida after an extended illness.
Mr. Seever was born in Sand Springs, OK on October 7, 1920. he served as a captain in the United States Army Air Force during World War II earning the Distinguished Flying Cross and the Air medal with four oak leaf clusters. He retired in October 1980 after thirty-five years as a Pan American Airline Captain. Mr. Seever was a member of the American Legion, V.F.W. and Elks BPOE 893.
Mr. Seever was preceded in death by his parents, Henry Bert & Lorena Falls Seever, and his brother Kenneth (Sully) Seever.
He is survived by his wife, Diane Seever, Lake City, Florida; two sons: Thomas (Marsha) Seever, Key Largo, Florida; John Seever, Memphis TN; a nephew: Kenneth (Romelle) Sever, Cushing, OK; grandnieces: Victoria (Nathan) Ramer and Kendra Seever, Cushing, OK; two grandsons: Adam Seever and Luke Seever.
A memorial services for Mr. Seever will be held on Tuesday, January 29, 2002 at 10:00 A.M. at the First Presbyterian Church. Lake City, Florida with the Rev. Roy Martin officiating.

Mr. Charles "Champ" Horne
Mr. Charles "Champ" Horne, 63, of Lake City, died late Wednesday evening at his residence following an extended illness.
A native of Lockhart, South Carolina, Mr. Horne had been a resident of Lake City for several years, having moved here from Lancaster, South Carolina.
Mr. Horne was retired.Mr. Horne is survived by his daugh-ter & son-in-law, Karen & John Stroud of Lancaster, South Caroli-na; three sisters, Carol McMakin, Taylors, South Carolina; Gladys Re-vis, Union, South Carolina and Har-old Horne of Lake City, Florida.
A grandson, Jeremy Stroud of Lancas-ter, South Carolina also survives.
Funeral services for Mr. Horne were conducted at 3:00 P.M., Sunday, January 27, 2002 in the Holcombe Funeral Chapel in Union, South Carolina, with interment following in the Lockhart Company Cemetery.

Luvie Mae Cousins, 92, resident of Lake Placid, Florida, died Wednesday, January 23, 2002, in the Lake Placid A.L.F., following a long illness.
Mrs. Cousins was a native of Springfield, Massachusetts, daughter of the late George Marcus and Eva Price McManus, and had resided in Wellborn for many years, prior to moving to Lake Placid in 1998. Mrs. Cousins was a graduate of the Moody Bible Institute, of Chicago, Illinois, widow of the late Roger Cousins, and was a member of the Faith Baptist Church,of Lake City.
Survivors include; One Daughter, Naomi Eva (Tedd) Fish of Nashua, New Hampshire; One Daughter-in-Law, Marcia Perry, of Belfast, Maine; One Granddaughter, Jacki Fish of Derry, New Hampshire.
Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, January 30, 2002, at 11:00 A.M., in the Chapel of Guerry Funeral Home, with Rev. Ted Fish, officiating. Interment will follow in Scott Cemetery, Lake City. The family will receive friends, Tuesday, January 29, 2002, from 6 to 8 P.M., at the funeral home. Byron E. Duce, Sr.
Byron E. Duce, Sr., of Lake City, died Saturday afternoon in the Shands at Lake Shore Hospital following an extended illness. A native of Bascom, Florida, Mr. Duce had been a resident of Lake City since 1966 having moved here from Valdosta, Georgia. A 1953 graduate of Greenwood High School in Greenwood, Florida, Mr. Duce earned a scholarship and played a year of college basketball in Chipola. He owned and operated several businesses here in Lake City, including a contracting business, Byron Duce Real Estate, and he was a farmer and cattleman. Mr. Duce was preceded in death by his father, John B. Duce, a sister, Kathryn Duce and his grandson, Joshua Anderson.
Mr. Duce is survived by his wife of forty-six years, Madeliene Duce; a son, Byron E. "Buddy" Duce, Jr. (Nikki Cutford), Lake City, Florida; two daughters, Susan Ward (Marnie), Jacksonville, Florida; Patricia Anderson (Eric) Lake City, Florida; his mother, Grace Duce, Haines City, Florida, three brothers, John Duce (Ann), Haines City, Florida; Jimmy Duce (Cheryl) Haines City, Florida; Lowell Duce (Abby Jo), Sneads, Florida; three sisters, Elaine Chandler (Wayne), Tallahassee; Nell Hernandez (Rigo), Biloxi, Mississippi; and Faye Creel (Gene) Corpus Cristi, Texas; two grandchildren, Hank Ward and Brody Ward and four step-grandchildren Jonathon Anderson and Angela Anderson, Sasha Cutford and Clay Cutford. Numerous nieces and nephews also survive.

Herman Boyett
Herman Boyett, 63, a resident of Live Oak, Florida died Monday, January 28, 2002 at his residence after an extended illness.
Mr. Boyett was born in Blakely, Georgia on March 10, 1938. He has lived in Live Oak, Florida since
1990 coming from Mulberry, Florida.
Mr. Boyett is survived by his wife, Glenda Boyett, Live Oak, Florida, two sons, Buddy & Kenneth Boyett of Lakeland, Florida, two daughters, Vickie Bradshaw & Patricia Robins of Lakeland, Florida, three brothers, Jesse & Curtis Boyett of Plant City, Florida and Reason Boyett of Ft. Myers Florida, two sisters, Mary Nell Bond of Valrico, Florida and Myrtle Lee of Tennessee. Also surviving are twelve grandchildren and one great grandchild.

Gertrude Louise Cornett
Gertrude Louise Cornett, age 73, a lifetime resident of Ocala, FL died Monday, January 28, 2002 at Oakhurst Rehabilitation & Nursing Center.
Louise was born in Anthony, FL. Louise was a licensed Practical Nurse and was a devout christi an who loved the Lord, who always did his work & put others before herself and will forever be missed.
Survivors include; 2 Daughters, Guin Tabor of Covington, KY; and Julie Adkisson of Louisville, KY; 2
Sons Ray G. Cornett of Lake City, FL. and Stephen Davies of Summerville, SC, two Brothers Otis Davies of Fletcher, OK and James Davies of Ocala, FL. 4 Grandchildren and 3 Great Grandchildren also survive.
Graveside Services for Mrs. Cornett will be held at 10:00 a.m.Thursday, January 31, 2002 at Hillcrest Cemetery with Pastor Bernard Tuggerson officiating. Visitation is Wednesday from 6pm-8pm at Hiers Funeral Home, 910 SE Silver Springs Blvd.

Lillian Nix Hardee, 68, died January 27, 2002 at her home.
She was born in St. Augustine and has lived here all her life. She was the daughter of Nathan and Arabelle Nix. She was a member of the Jehovah Witness faith.
She is survived by her two daughters, Sheila Rowe, Palatka and Mary Beth Stevens, St. Augustine, one son James D. Hardee, Jr. St. Augustine, and two sisters Bessie Nix Johnson, St. Augustine Shirley Nix Register. Lake City, five brothers, Elmo Nicks, Roy Nicks, Howard Nix, Gary Nix all of St. Augustine and Ricky Nix, Hastings and ten grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.
Funeral Services will be held Friday at 11 am at Craig Funeral Home, with Pastor Warren Fredrick Officiating and burial at St. Augustine Memorial Park. Friends may call from 10 until time of service.

Andrew Jackson, age 69 resident of Daytona Beach, FL. died Saturday, January 26, 2002 at Halifax Convalescent Center Daytona Beach, FL.
Born in Lake City, Columbia County, he was a resident of New York, prior to relocating to Daytona in 1990.
He was formerly employed at the Blues Bank and was a member of Mt. Mission Baptist Church. He was a 1952 graduate of Richardson High School in Lake City and was an honorable discharged Vietnam Veteran.
Survivors include his wife Connie Jackson; 4 daughters, Valarie McCoy, Bridgette Wallace, both of
Daytona Beach, FL. Patricia Jackson, Talla, FL. and Caroline Howell, Hinesville, GA. 2 sisters, Geraldine Rentz, Lake City, FL. and Justine Richardson, Eatonville, FL.; 4 brothers, Silas Jackson, Daytona Beach, FL. Frank Jones
Frank Jones, age 84 resident of 640 Patterson Street Lake City, FL. died Friday, January 25, 2002 at his residence.
He was the son of the late Mr. Namon Jones & Mrs. Selena Alexander Jones.
He received his education in the public schools of Columbia County and was of the Baptist faith.
Mr. Jones, relocated to Miami, FL. in 1938 where he resided until his return to Columbia County in 2000.
Survivors include 2 daughters, Vonceil Jones, Lake City, FL. and Juanita Jones Peoples (William F.) Palo Alto, Calf., 1 brother Henry Jones, Jamaica, N.Y.; a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends also survive.

Johannes Hans Valk
Johannes Hans Valk, 71, died unexpectedly Tuesday, January 29, 2002.
Hans was born in Medan, Sumatra to Dutch parents and was one of nine children.
He immigrated to the United States in 1955 after earning a degree in engineering. He was an engineer for several companies working directly on the design of the Appollo spacecraft. He later worked in the phosphate industry in Lakeland, Florida, Occidental Industries of White Springs, Florida, and most recently in real estate in the Lake City area.
Hans was a kind and generous man who has donated time and effort to local children's education programs, The United Fund, and Guardian Ad Litem Program, "Court Advocates For Abused Children". Hans was beloved by all around him, and will be sorely missed by all who knew him. He was a longtime member of the Ba'hai faith.
He is survived by his wife, Evelyn, three sons, Dirk (Barbara) Valk of Lakeland, Florida, Adrian (Christina) Valk, Franklin, Tennessee & Kris (Amy) Valk of Atlanta, Georgia, two step-children, Robert Thompson of Alpharetta, Georgia and Lyn (Joseph) Johnson of Cumking, Georgia, three sisters, Maria Oakes of Hamilton, Ohio, Tineke Raleigh of Clearwater, Florida and Carla Hoffman of Haute Nendaz, Switzerland.
Graveside Funeral services will be held Saturday, February 2, 2002 at 11:00 A.M., at the Philippi Baptist Cemetery, Lake City, Florida.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home, Friday, February 1, 2002 from 5:00-7:00 P.M. SHERRILL-GUERRY FUNERAL HOME 616 South Marion Street, Lake City, Florida is in charge of all arrangements.
