Mr. Rufus Mcpherson, 69 of White Springs, FL. Died Thursday April 25, 2002 in the Shands at Lake Shore hospital after an illness.
Rufus was born on October 12, 1932 to Mrs. Theola Mcpherson and the late Joe Mcpherson in Cross City, FL. He was raised in White Springs, FL and was a member of the Zion Temple Holiness Church. In 1955 he married a devoted wife Rutha Dye Mcpherson.
Survivors are a devoted wife Rutha Mcpherson, White Springs, FL. daughter Barbara Jones, Lake City. Loving mother Theola Mcpherson, White Springs. Connie Jean Simmon Fluellen-Zayas, 56, a resident of Santa Isabel died, Saturday, April 20, 2002 at her home in Santa Isabel, PR following a long illness.
Mrs. Connie Zayas was a native of Columbia County, daughter of Mr. & Mrs. Charlie & Jessie Fluellen. She resided in Santa Isabel, since 1970 with her husband, Pedro Zayas, nine children, sixteen grandchildren. She will be greatly missed by her family friends and acquaintances.

Luke Dewey Henderson
Mr. Luke Dewey Henderson, 94, a lifelong residence of Columbia County, died Monday April 29, 2002 at Shands at Lake Shore Hospital.
Mr. Henderson was a member of the Bethlehem United Methodist Church, Fort White, FL. He retired from the University of Florida after 30 years of service. Mr. Henderson is survived by one son James (Jackie) Henderson, Columbia County, FL and a foster daughter Inez (John) Wyche, of Lake City, FL. Thirteen grandchildren and a host of cousins and sorrowing friends.
Funeral services for Mr. Henderson will be held Saturday, May 4, 2002 at 11:00 A.M. at Bethlehem United Methodist Church, Fort White, FL with Rev. Clarence DeSue Pastor/Officiating. Burial will follow in Bethlehem Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday at A. Jerome Brown Funeral Home 6:00 - 8:00 P.M. The processional will form at Mr. Henderson's home at 10:00 A.M.

Ruby Nell Gray
Ruby Nell Gray, 72, resident of Live Oak, Florida, died Thursday, May 2, 2002, in the Shands at Live Oak Hospital, following an extended illness.
Mrs. Gray was a native of Columbus, Georgia, daughter of the late Earlie Lee and Daisy Smith Hil- dreth. Mrs. Gray had resided most of her life in Live Oak, she had at-tended the Live Oak Assembly of God.
Survivors include; Two daughters, Helen Gray and Betty Corbin, both of Lake City; One Brother, Hollis Hildreth, of Pensacola; One Sister, Edna Williams, of Buena Vista, Georgia. Four Grandchildren and Three Great Grandchildren also survive.
Graveside funeral services will be conducted Saturday, May 4, 2002, at 11:00 A.M. in the Live Oak Cemetery. The family will receive friends, Friday, May 4, 2002, from 6 to 8 P.M., at funeral home. GUERRY FUNERAL HOME, 4309 South First Street, Lake City is in charge of all arrangements.

Mildred E. Thomas-White
Mildred E. Thomas-White, 40, formerly of Groton now living Tuson, died on Saturday, April 27, 2002 at the University Medical Center in Tuson.
Mrs Thomas-White was born on February 5, 1962 in Groton, CT the daughter of Clem and Mildred Jones Thomas, Jr. She married Gregory R. White in Chrestview, FL on December 22, 1995. She graduated with an Associates Degree in Criminal Justice from the Okaloosa-Walton Comm. College in Fort Walton, FL, and became a certified corrections officer in the State of Florida, she was employed there until she took ill in December of 1999. She took great pleasure in enjoying time her family
Mrs. Thomas-White is survived by her loving husband, two sons Jaye L. Thomas of Lake City, FL., Jomell D. Thomas of Mystic, CT and a step-son Jeremiah M. White, one brother Harry Thomas of Water-ford, four sisters Margurite Mizzell and Clementine Thomas both of Newport News, VA, Gilda James of Mystic, and a stepsister Savinia Neal, New London, and Cecilia Chavis of North Carolina, three grandchildren Jovan D. Thomas, Je-kiah Thomas, and Ethan White. She is predeceased by her parents and one brother Clem Thomas III.
A funeral Service will be held at 7:00 pm on Friday, May 3, 2002 in the Shepard of the Sea Chapel in Groton, CT. Burial will be private. Calling Hours will be held on Thursday, May 2, 2002 from 7:00 until 9:00 pm in the Fulton-Theroux Funeral Home, 181 Ocean Ave., New London. Mr. Franklin G. "Frank" Markham
Mr. Franklin G. "Frank" Markham, 69, of Lake City, died early Saturday morning at his residence following an extended illness. A native and lifelong resident of Columbia County, Mr. Markham was the son of the late George Witt & Eula Beatrice Priest Markham. He was the owner and operator of the Markham Floor Coverings for many years. Mr. Markham was a member of the Florida National Guard and he loved to go fishing in his spare time. Mr. Markham was a member and Elder of the Lake City Seventh Day Adventist Church. He will long be remembered for the love that he showed his family.
Mr. Markham is survived by his wife of 50 years, Mrs. Ruby Markham; three sons, Glen Markham (Glenda), Lake City; Nathan Markham (Tracy), Lake City; Keith Markham, Lake City; a daughter, Yvonne Melgaard (Tommy), Lake City; an adopted son, Darryl Bodiford, Lake City; three brothers, Gilbert Markham, Florahome, Florida; Alton Markham, Lake City, Florida; Wendall Markham, Panama City, Florida; and a sister, Helen Trumbach of New Orleans, Louisiana. Eight grandchildren, Renee Manning (Todd), Kylie Markham, Travis Melgaard (Jamie), Swede Melgaard (Tina), Davin Markham, Dylan Markham, Logan Markham and Joshua Markham.
Funeral services for Mr. Markham will be conducted at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, May 7, 2002, in the Biggs Memorial Chapel. Interment will follow in the Mt. Tabor Cemetery. Mr. Elmer Blair
Mr. Elmer Blair, 72, Ft. White, died Thursday, May 2, 2002, at his residence following a brief illness.
Mr. Blair had lived in Ft. White for 15 years having moved to the area from West Palm, Florida. Mr. Blair was a member of the Local 630 Pipe Fitters Union of West Palm and a member of the Moose Lodge.
Mr. Blair is survived by two sons, Marshall Blair, Ft. White, Florida and Jim Walter Blair, Norfolk Virginia; one daughter, Barbara Ann Gonzalez, Ocala, Florida. Six grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren also survive.
Cremation arrangements are under the direction of BIGGS FUNERAL HOME, 3801 S. First Street, Lake City, FL.

Mr. Glenn R. Rhoades, 61, of Lake City, died Tuesday, April 30, 2002, at his residence following a brief illness.
Mr. Rhoades had lived here since 1986 having moved here from Brooksville, Florida.
A sister, Sandy Hartford and a grandson, Clinton William Rhoades, preceded Mr. Rhoades in death.
Mr. Rhoades is survived by one son, Peter Rhoades, and one daughter, Margaret Rhoades, both of Lake City, Florida; one brother, James Kenneth Rhoades. Six grandchildren also survive.

Sarah Geneva Hogan Brown, 84, a resident of Wellborn, Florida died May 4, 2002 at the Lake City Medical Center after a brief illness.
Mrs. Brown was born in Wellborn, Florida, and a resided there for the past 15 years, and is the daughter of the late Mont and Mattie Thompson Hogan. Mrs. Brown was a homemaker and a member of the Mount Olive Baptist Church, Wellborn, Florida. Survivors include her beloved husband of 62 years, Wilson J. Brown, Wellborn, Florida; her son, William Jennings (DeEtte) Brown, II, Lake City, Florida; Pete L. (Carol) Hogan, Eldersburg, Maryland and four grandchildren; three brothers, Wilbur (Lauretta) Hogan, Wellborn, Florida, Thomas E. (Jewel) Hogan, Wellborn, Florida, and William M. "Skeet" (Faye) Hogan, Live Oak, Florida, three sisters Imogene Lampp, Jacksonville, Florida, Connie (Bill) Knotts, Wellborn, Florida and Judy (Hubert) Morgan, Live Oak, Florida. Orville Randy J. Buske, age 47, died Friday, April 26th at his residence in Lake City.
Born in Watertown, WI, Mr. Burke, a Marine Veteran, lived in Lake City and was employed as painter, 1st class at Aero (Timco) Industries.
Mr. Buske is predeceased by his father Ray F. Buske. Mr. Buchanan is survived by his mother, Rosemary Buske of Waretown, WI, his son, Josh Ray Buske of Lake City, one brother, Dan Buske one sister, Patty Parti (Wayne) of Watertown, WI, two Nieces, Lisa and Amy Parti of
Watertown, WI and great niece, Cansandra Parti of Watertown, WI.

Ms. Mary Edna Caldwell, 82 of Lake City, passed away Saturday May 4, 2002 in the Shands University hospital of Jacksonville, FL. after a brief illness.
She was born September 5, 1919 in Lake City, Fl to the late Mr. & Mrs. Luther Caldwell Sr. She received her education in the Columbia County Public school system. At an early age she accepted Christ ad joined Grant Chapel A.M.E. Church. She was a member of American Legion auxiliary post # 322 for the past forty (40) yrs. Maxwell) preceded her in death.
Survivors are: A loving son Arthur Roy Caldwell (Joni) Denver, CO. A devoted son-in-law Hercules Maxwell, Lake City. A brother Isreal Caldwell (Sylvia) a Sister-in-law Katherine Caldwell, Lake City. Six grandchildren and Eight Great Grands. A host of nieces, nephews, cousins and sorrowing friends. Devoted friends are Jacqueline Powell, Inez Hamilton, Mary Kannady and Everlena Hamilton.

Helen B. Gonzalez
Ms. Helen B. Gonzalez, 45, of O'Brien, died Friday afternoon, May 3, 2002 at her residence fol- lowing a lengthy illness. A native of Idaho, Ms. Gonzalez had been a resident of O'Brien for nine years having moved from Dover, Florida. Ms. Gonzalez was employed as a farm worker and had been attending the Tustenuggee United Methodist Church in Ft. White.
Ms. Gonzalez is survived by her companion of fourteen years, Mr. Jose Mendoza of O'Brien, FL; Two sons, Billy Wayne Webb and Bill Curtis Cox.
Funeral services for Ms. Gonzalez will be conducted at 3:00 P.M. Wednesday, May 8, 2002 at the Tuskenuggee United Methodist Church in Ft. White with Rev. Mike Wright, church pastor officiating. Interment will follow in the Church cemetery. Visitation with the family will be held one hour prior to the service.

Oliver Ray Kerce
Mr. Oliver Ray Kerce, age 75, of Lake Alfred, Fla. died Friday, May 3, at his residence.
Mr. Kerce was a native of Lulu, Fla. and had resided in Lake Alfred, Fla. most of his life.
He was the son of the late William C. and Cora Bielling Kerce. He was employed as a truck driver for the citrus industry until he retired in 1995. He loved to fish, walk in the local park and spend time with his family reminiscing of good time spent. He was a member of the Jehovah's Witnesses and will be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather and brother. He was an Army veteran of the Korean Conflict with the rank of Sgt. First Class.
Survivors include his wife of 49 years, Doris Casteen Kerce of Lake Alfred, Fla.: Three daughters, Belinda (Tommy) Brown of Winterhaven, Fla., Cindy (Larry) Fulford of Lake City, Fla. and Julie (Ben) At-kins of Haines City, Fla.: Three sons, J.C. Kerce of Lake Alfred, Fla., Ronnie (Rhonda) Kerce of Auburndale, Fla. and Barney Kerce of Lake Alfred, Fla.: Twelve grand-children and twenty great-grandchildren also survive.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 P.M. Wednesday, May 8, in the Chapel of Guerry Funeral Home with a eulogy to be recited by Mrs. Ruth Law with assistance by Jim Fulford and Wayne Law. Mildred Jane Geoghagan
Mrs. Mildred Jane Geoghagan, 93, resident of Macclenny, FL died Sunday, May 5, 2002 at N. Frank Wells Nursing Home in Macclenny following an extended illness.
She was born and raised in Mikesville Community and attended Columbia County School System. She moved to Jacksonville at an early age and was employed with A&P Grocery Store as a retail clerk. She was a member of Faith Baptist Church. She is preceded in death by two husbands, Marion Bivins and Allen Geoghagan, a son, Robert Bivins and a Daughter, Eula Haynes.
She is survived by a daughter-in-law Teresa Bivins of Salt Springs, FL, four grandchildren, Dona Overstreet and Michael Bivins both of Jacksonville, Richard Haynes of Palm Coast, FL and Yvonne Dancy of Macclenny, FL, six great-grandchildren, Holly Mundy of Atlanta, GA, Kyle Haynes of Delaware, Ashley Dancy and Jared Dancy both of Macclenny, Wesley Haynes of Baldwin and Devin Dancy of Macclenny. She is also survived by a special niece Patricia Bedan and great-nephew Charles Becan both of Macclenny.

Nettie Hall McColskey
Mrs. Nettie Hall McColskey, age 94, of Lake City, Fla. died Sunday, May 5, at her residence following an extended illness.
Mrs. McColskey was born in Elberton, Ga. on Nov. 26, 1907. The daughter of John Willis Hall and
Frances Bryan Hall, she and her family moved to Columbia County in the early 1920s. She was a graduate of Columbia High School class of 1924. She received her teaching certificate from Florida State Col-lege for Women and taught for a number of years. Mrs. McColskey and her husband owned and operated the Corner Cupboard Restaurant for 25 years, which was well known or its hospitality and homecooking through the south. She was a life long member of the First Baptist Church of Lake City and the Women's Missionary Group. After retiring from the Corner Cupboard Restaurant, Mrs., McColskey was an active volunteer for the Lake Shore Hospital Auxiliary. She enjoyed reading, crossword puzzles and playing bridge. Mrs. McColskey was preceded in death her husband, James Alligood McColskey and her son, James A. McColskey, Jr. and her Sister, Sara George Hixson Simpson.
Survivors include her son George Hall McColskey of Lake City, Fla.: Three grandchildren, Angela (Darren) Goos of Lake Worth, Fla. James A. McColskey, III of Orlando, Fla. and Sarah L. McColskey of Lake City, Fla.: Two great-grand-children, Kendall and Conner Goos and nephews and nieces.
Graveside funeral services will be conducted at 11 A.M. Wednesday, May 8, in Memorial Cemetery, Lake City, Fla. with Rev. Robert Davis officiating and assisted by Rev. Troy Varnum, Pastor of the First Baptist Church. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 P.M. Frankie Mae "Doll" Levings
Mrs. Frankie Mae "Doll" Levings, age 98, of Lake City, Fla. died Tuesday, May 7, in the Lake City Medical Center, Lake City, Fla. following an extended illness.
Mrs. Levings was a native of Echols County, Ga. and had lived in Jasper, Fla. before moving to Lake City, Fla. in 1993. She was the widow of the late Chester H. Levings. She worked as a nurses aid with the Columbia County Health department for many years. She was a member of the First Advent Christian Church of Lake City and was preceded in death by two sons, Albert S. Levings and his wife, Josephine, and Robert S. Levings.
Survivors include four granddaughters, Meredith LaPradd of Gainesville, Fla., Margaret Ann Levings of Monticello, Fla., Marlene Hughes of Deland, Fla. and Jane Valentine of Seattle, Wa.: Four grandsons, Al A. Levings, Jr. and his wife Emily of Lake City, Fla., Charlie Levings of Tallahassee, Fla., Robert Levings of Jack-sonville, Fla.: Albert Levings of
Gainesville, Fla.: Three great-grandchildren, Staten Levings, Lindsey Levings and Scottie Mashburn.

Naomi "Katie" Latham Smith, age 65 resident of 708 N.E. Fronie Street, Lake City, Fla. died Wednesday, April 24, 2002 at North Florida Regional Hospital Gainesville, Fla. following a brief illness.
Born in West Blockton, Ala. to the parents of the late Mr.& Mrs. Gentle Bolden, she was a devoted member of Lee's Temple Church of God In Christ where she served as Church Mother and Church Treasurer. She retired from North East Florida State Hospital after 25 years of service.
She leaves to mourn her passing, a devoted husband, Thelma Smith; 2 daughters, Phyllis Julks (Biner) & Patricia Coker; 4 sons, Phillip Latham, Kenneth Latham (Christine), Charles Latham & Samuel Latham (Dionne); 2 sisters, Sade Johnson, and Adel Murphy, of Montevallo, Ala.; 2 brothers, Henry Bolden, of Lake City and William Bolden (Barbara), of Montavallo, Ala.; God-Children, Andrew & Gaynell Lee, Lake City, Fla.; 7 Grandchil-dren; a host of nieces, nephews; special neighbor, Linda Ivory; Spiritual sister, Mother Louise Coles and a longtime friend, Mr. Eddie Collier;

Delora Bartus
January 27, 1919 to May 8, 2002
Mrs. Bartus passed away in her sleep at her home in Wellborn, Florida on Wednesday.
She is survived by her husband Joseph Bartus, son Randy A. Seifert and wife Betty A. Seifert and her daughter Judy Husocki and husband John Husocki all of Wellborn, Florida. She has five grandsons and daughters and six great grandchildren.
She is loved and will be missed by all friends and family. She was a member of the WOTM and Eagles Organizations. She attended the Wellborn Methodist Church.
Services will be held on May 11, 2002 at Forest Lawn Memorial gardens in Ft. lauderdale, Florida at 1:00pm.

John Newton Fraser
Mr. John Newton Fraser, age 51, died early Sunday morning at his residence in Register. The Fort Lauderdale, Florida native lived in Bulloch County for many years and was a carpenter.
Surviving are his two brothers, James Russell Fraser, Sr. of Deleon Springs, Florida and William Lee Fraser of Charlotte; and one sister, Marjorie K. Prickett of Fort Myers, Florida.
A private memorial service will be held at a late date .
Arrangements under the direction of HODGES-TURNER-ANDERSON FUNERAL HOME, Statesboro, Ga 912-764-5683.
