Joseph G. Meurer of Delhi died Sunday January 6th after a brief illness. Born in Mankato Minnesota August 23,1925, he graduated from Saint Peter and Paul in Mankato in 1943. Like many of the "Greatest Generation" Joseph joined the Army in 1943 and served in the ETO from 1944 until the end of WWII. He was a member of a heavy artillery unit principally attached to XII Corp, a unit of General Patton's 3rd Army. His unit fought in France, Germany, and ended the war in Czechloslovakia after more than 270 days of combat. Joseph attended college on the GI bill graduating with a civil engineering degree from the University of Minnesota before joining Inland Steel in 1955 as a sales engineer. He was transferred to Cincinnati in 1957 and came quickly to see Cincinnati as his home. He was an active member of St. Dominic's parish including serving on the parish council. All seven of his children graduated from Saint Dominic's School. He founded Cincinnati Construction Proucts in 1970 and retired as President in 1987. He helped start the local chapter of Construction Institute and was active in that organization for many years. Joseph is survived by his wife of 54yrs, Shirley Ruth (Anderson), six children, Gregory (Gail)of Cincinnati, Kathy Barlag (Bruce) of Easton, Connecticut, Joseph Jr. (Darlene) of Savage Minnesota, Mary Langford (Sam)of Los Angeles, California, Amy Hulver(Mike)of Dharan,Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and Colleen Mallari (Jim)of Cincinnati, and 17 grandchildren. He was preceeded in death by his daughter Ann Caudill of Greenville, South Carolina. He is also survived by his sister,Phyllis Haefner of Madison Lake,Minnesota. His brother Emil Jr., preceeded Joseph in death in New Orleans, Louisiana in 1999. Family suggests Memorials be made to the Ann Meurer Caudill Scholarship Fund C/O Seton High School Glenway Ave. & Beech 45205.
