Wednesday, January 3, 2007. She and her husband Charles owned and operated Browning's of Wyoming, an art store, from 1961 to 1977. GELHAUS, Herbert B. Beloved husband of Irma (nee Pfeiffer) for 60 years. Also survived by 17 grandchildren and five great grandchildren. Brother of Mary Herb, Lucille Ramey, Norb Gelhaus and the late Ed Gelhaus, Gert Schaab and Bud Gelhaus. Saturday, March 3, 2007. Fred G. Nieman
NIEMAN, Fred Gary Nieman, 78, died Thursday, March 1 2007, at the Alois Alzheimer Center in Greenhills, where he had lived the last two years. He was born in Cincinnati on November 8, 1928, the son of Fred and Kathryn Nieman. He grew up in Hartwell, graduating from Hartwell High School in 1946. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. Before and after his war service, he attended the Ohio State University School of Agriculture, graduating in 1954. He later earned a master's degree in education from Xavier University in 1969. He married Doris Marilyn Littrell of Owenton, Kentucky, in 1955. He worked as a naturalist (and Indian Dancer) for the Cincinnati Recreation Commission at California Nature Preserve from 1955 to 1970. He taught sixth-and-seventh grade science and Ohio History at Mariemont Middle School from 1970 to1981. He was the district's "teacher of the year" in 1975. He later taught science for three years at Chillicothe (Ohio) High School before "officially retiring" in 1984 with precisely 31.2 years of public service. He was a seasonal ranger for National park Service for about 25 years -from about 1975 to 2000-primarily at the William Howard Taft National Historic Site in Mount Auburn, though he also worked three summers at Perry's Victory and International Peace Memorial at Put-in-Bay, Ohio, and three summers at Fort Necessity National Battlefield, Farmington, Pennsylvania. He was a longtime member and elder at the Lockland Christian Church. He also was a member of the American Legion and Masons, and was very active with the Hartwell School Alumni Association and Little Miami Inc, a river conservation group. He is survived by two sons, John (and Sherry) of Hamden, CT, and James (and Mary) of Cincinnati. Also survived by three grandchildren, Katie of Hamden CT, and Craig and Cassandra of Cincinnati, and one sister Darlene Nieman of Cincinnati. He was preceded in death by his wife Doris, in 1996, and one son Jeffrey, in 1960. Friends may call at Hodapp Funeral Home, 7401 Vine St., Carthage, Monday from 6 to 8 P.M. Funeral service 10 A.M. Merlyn A. York
YORK, Reverend Merlyn A. (Sarge York). Devoted husband to the late Oneita York (Huff). Caring Son to the late Attis and Faye York. Preceded in death by his brothers Gene and John York. Loving father to Bruce (Cynthia) and Jerry (Jo Ann). Grandfather to Mark and Craig York, Debbie Hilyer, Stacy Stetter, Rachel Anderson, Christy Best, John and Ron Davis, and the late Brian and Juanita York. Great Grand-daddy to 21 great grandchildren. Mr. York also leaves behind his Christian family at Kings Run Separate Baptist Church where he was a founding member and Minister, Assistant Pastor 1965-67 and Pastor 1970-71,1979-86, 1990-96, He served on the Presbytery board for the Separate Baptist Movement from 1989-2004. He was a founding member of the Gospel Group "Son's of the Bluegrass" and a member of "The Ray Baker Trio". Mr. York was a Veteran of the United States Air Force and a retiree from Jefferson Smurfit, formerly Diamond International. Went home to be with his Heavenly father March 1st 2007 at the age of 75.
