Craig Brodin
Craig Brodin, 45, of Jackson died June 17, 1998, at Jackson Medical Center Hospital after becoming ill at home. Services were held Friday at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Jackson with Rev. Roger Hett officiating. Special music was provided by Kathy Wenzel, organist, and Kent Mickelson, vocalist. Pallbearers were Dave Pell, Joe Biehn, Ron Schlimeen, Phil Schafer, Doug Sangl and Bob Dorschner. Interment was in the Delafield Township Cemetery.
Craig Victor Brodin, son of Vernon and Lillie Olson Brodin, was born May 9, 1953, in Windom. He graduated from Windom High School in 1971, attended Worthing-ton Junior College and graduated from the University of Minnesota in 1975. In 1974, Craig married Sue Janzen. The couple lived in St. Paul and then moved to Lakefield in 1975. Craig and Sue moved to Jackson in 1982, and later, moved to an acreage in Des Moines Township. Craig was baptized and confirmed at Delafield Lutheran Church. In 1980, he became a member of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church, where he served as a youth group leader and usher. He was also a 4-H and Boy Scout leader and coached T-ball and girls softball. At the time of his death, he was employed at Ag-Chem in Jackson as special options manufacturing office manager.
Survivors include his wife, Sue; a son, Brandon Brodin of Jackson; two daughters, Sarah Brodin of Estherville, Iowa, and Bridget Brodin at home; his parents, Vernon and Lillie Brodin of Windom; a sister, Cheryl (Kevin) Ahren of Spencer, Iowa; and a grandmother, Dagny Brodin of Windom.

Dolores Johnson
Dolores Johnson, 86, of Jeffers died June 19, 1998, at the Mankato House Health Care Center. Services were held Tuesday at the Jeffers United Methodist Church with Rev. Kathleen Brandt officiating. Special music was provided by Janis Nickel, organist, and Pastor Joe and Angela Bowman, vocalists. Pallbearers were Ken Arnsdorf, Jack Oberle, David Eidem, Richard Sykora, John Brand and Harlan Fisk. Interment was in the Jeffers city cemetery.
Dolores Leone Talbott, daughter of Clarence and Clair Bachmann Talbott, was born Aug. 28, 1912, in Craig, Iowa. The family moved to Jeffers, where Dolores attended Jeffers schools. She graduated from Jeffers High School in 1932. In 1937, Dolores married Gerald Johnson. The couple lived in Jeffers where they operated a grocery store for many years. Dolores was a 4-H and Girl Scout leader and a member of the Band Mothers. In 1931, she became a member of the Order of the Eastern Star. Over the next 50 years she served in every office, including Worthy Matron. She was a member of the Garden Club. After Gerald died in 1994, Dolores remained at her home until she moved to the Mankato House Health Care Center in 1995.
Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by an infant brother, Clarence. Survivors include two daughters, Carolyn (Louis) Allen of Mankato and Rita (Rodney) Dehmlow of Prior Lake; six grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Ruth Mattison
Ruth Mattison, 72, of Mt. Lake died June 17, 1998, at the Good Samaritan Village in Mt. Lake. Services were held Saturday at Alliance Missionary Church in Mt. Lake with Rev. Byron Emmert and Rev. Dennis Siebert officiating. Special music was provided by Karla Sorenson, organist, and Mr. and Mrs. Milton Holmquist, vocalists. Pallbearers were Bill Holmberg, Paul Ratzloff, Tim Mattison, Bob Holmberg, John Ratzloff and Scott Leffel. Interment was in the Mt. Lake Cemetery.
Ruth Arlene Stenbock, daughter of Rev. Harrold and Nellie Bloom Stenbock, was born Nov. 30, 1925, in Maple, Wis., in a house built by her father near the south shore of Lake Superior. She graduated from Duluth Central High School and Northwestern Bible College. In 1959, Ruth married Milford Mattison at the Bethel Union Mission in Duluth. The couple lived in Mt. Lake. She was active in child evangelism through Duluth Bethel Sunday school and Oak Hills Fellowship in Bemidji. At one time, Ruth owned a greenhouse and floral business. She also helped Milford with the bee yards and helped bottle Mattison honey. She often traveled to markets to sell honey, beeswax candles, birdhouses and crafts. Because of declining health, Ruth became a resident of the Good Samaritan Village in Mt. Lake in 1996.
She was preceded in death by her baby daughter, Marilyn; and a sister, Helga Markell. Survivors include her husband, Milford of Bingham Lake; four sons, Russell Mattison of Soldotna, Alaska; Bruce Mattison of St. James; Mark Mattison of Sioux Falls, S.D.; and David Mattison of Windom; six grandchildren; three sisters, Ethel Leffel of Poplar, Wis.; Vivian Bauers of Duluth; Evelyn Ditty of Kansas City, Kan.; and one brother, Paul Stenbock of Conway, Mass.

Flori Herme
Flori Herme, 37, of Point Mugu, Calif., and daughter of Arlen and Kathryn Carlblom of Windom, died June 12, 1998, in Ventura County, Calif. Services were held at Ventura Baptist Church. A memorial service was held Tuesday in Mankato. Interment followed in Woodland Hills Cemetery in Mankato.
Flori Karen Carlblom was born April 14, 1961, in Minneapolis and grew up in Mankato. She graduated from Grace Christian School in 1979. In 1980, Flori married James Herme. The couple were active members of Grace Baptist Church in Mankato and at various other churches while Jim served in the Marine Corps. Flori was an accomplished pianist and vocalist.
She is survived by her husband, Jim and children, Allen, Elizabeth and Charity, all of Point Mugu, Calif., her parents, Arlen and Kathryn Carlblom of Windom; four sisters, Julae (Jeff) Johansen of Council Bluffs, Iowa; Dawn (Todd) Daily of Ingolstadt, Germany; Janell (Wayne) Neva of Warren, Mich.; and Denise (Tim) Frankovich of League City, Texas.

Martha Krahn
Martha Krahn, 85, of Mankato, formerly of Mt. Lake, died Monday at her daughter’s home in St. James. Services will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. at the Mennonite Brethren Church in Mt. Lake with Rev. Ron Seibel officiating. Visitation will be at the Eifert Funeral Home in Mt. Lake today (Wednesday) from 5 to 7 p.m. and for one hour before the service on Thursday. Interment will follow in the Mt. Lake Cemetery.

Willard Pankratz
Willard Pankratz, 78, of Odin Township died June 19, 1998, in Watertown. Services were held Monday at Kansas Lake Lutheran Church in Butterfield with Rev. Teresia Calene-Hasseries officiating. Special music was provided by Viola Sandberg, organist; and Brian Romsdahl, Harold Romsdahl and Kenneth Romsdahl, vocalists. Pallbearers were Rick Hoek, Ellsworth Kroeker, Dale Pankratz, DeLyle Pankratz, LaVerne Pankratz and Steve Thomforde. Interment was in the church cemetery.
Willard H. Pankratz, son of Henry and Mary Kroeker Pankratz, was born July 9, 1919, in Butterfield Township. He received his education at Mt. Lake and at the Dunwoody Institute in Minneapolis. He was baptized at Bethel Mennonite Church in Mt. Lake in 1941 and later transferred his membership to Kansas Lake Lutheran Church. In 1942, Willard married Ruth Engstrom at Kansas Lake Lutheran Church. The couple made their home in Storden before moving to a farm in Odin Township, where Willard worked for A. A. Penner Street Metal. Ruth died in 1958.
Besides his wife, Willard was preceded in death by a granddaughter; a twin brother, William; and five sisters, Allegra Pankratz, Marie Foss, Lydia Pankratz, Olga Pankratz and Bertha Pankratz. Survivors include two daughters, Janice (Milton) Harder of Watertown and Verle (Ron) Grahn of Maple Plain; three grandchildren; and two brothers, Henry (Martha) Pankratz of Mt. Lake and Ralph Pankratz of California.

Robert Haley
Robert Haley, 60, of Windom died Nov. 18, 1998, at the Windom Area Hospital. Services were held Saturday at the American Lutheran Church, Windom, with Pastor Stephen Norby officiating. Special music was provided by Carol Vought, organist, and David Rupp, vocalist. Pallbearers were Doyle Haley, Dave Davis, Daniel Borseth, Douglas Haley, Shawn Haley and Wade Haley. Honorary pallbearers were Carol Hochstein, Karen Anderson, Gene Sunstrom, Mary Holmen, Becky Marker, Lois Anderson, Carol Hartman and Terry Otto. Interment was held at Lakeview Cemetery.
Robert Orrie Haley was born in Jackson Dec. 24, 1937, to Francis and Esther (Rankin) Haley. He grew up in Jackson County and also attended school in Lake Lillian, where his family lived from 1950 until 1968. In 1976, Bob married Margaret Ann (Nelson) Dorgan. For many years, Robert had farmed with his father in the area and he ws employed in various labor jobs. For 11 years Bob was employed by the Toro Company as an assembler. Due to health problems, he ceased his employment in 1985.
He was preceded in death by two sisters and a brother, Gladys Haley Courts, Margaret Haley Borseth and Doyle Haley. Survivors include his wife, Margaret; two step children, Patrick Dorgan of Minneapolis and Christine Dorgan of Detroit Lakes; two grandchildren; two sisters, Doris Albrecht of Jefferson, Iowa and Joyce Haley of Windom and three brothers, Lyle Haley of Stewart; Raymond Haley of Jefferson, Iowa; and Francis Haley of Cosmos

Gary Ysker
Gary Ysker, 50, of Windom died Nov. 19, 1998, upon the arrival at Windom Area Hospital. Services were held Monday at First Presbyterian Church in Windom with Pastor Michael Hibbs officiating. Special music was provided by Carol Vought, organist, and Keith Lohse, vocalist. Pallbearers were Bruce Bennett, Brian Bennett, Richard Timko, Craig Bennett, Virgil Timko and Dennis Whiteford. Honorary pallbearers were Lyle Bennett, Dennis Ysker, Wally Trapp and Slim Kipfer. Interment was in Delafield Township Cemetery in Jackson County.
Gary Robert Ysker was born in Windom March 11, 1948, to Robert and Evelyn (Trapp) Ysker. He grew up in the area and received his education from the Bergen School and the Windom Area High School. His education was completed at Alexandria Technical College in 1968. Gary was inducted into the United States Army and served in Vietnam. He was honorably discharged and returned home. In 1970, Gary was married to Linda Kuehl. They lived in Alexandria following his discharge from the service for about three years. At that time, Gary and Linda moved to Windom where they have resided ever since. For several years Gary was employed at Kalash Implement and Johnson Implement. He has been operating Gary’s Ag Service near his home for the last several years where he continued to provide his mechanical skills to many people’s farm machinery and semi-trucks. Gary was a member of the Delafield Lutheran Church until its closing last month.
Survivors include his wife, Linda; three sons, Devon Ysker; Telly (Amy) Ysker; Nicky Ysker, all of Windom; two grandchildren; his parents, Bob and Evelyn Ysker of Windom; two sisters and a brother, Kathy (Michael) Earhart of Grand Rapids; John (Lynn) Ysker of Belmond, Iowa; and Gail (Dennis) Craig of Alexandria.

Francis Macek
Francis E. Macek, 52, of Worthington, formerly of Jackson, died Nov. 21, 1998, at Worthington Regional Hospital. Services will be held today (Wednesday) at the Church of the Good Shepherd in Jackson with Father Charles Quinn and Father Jerome Verdick Conelebrants. There will be a Holy Rosary said at 7 p.m. today followed by a scriptural Wake Service and Service of Remembrance at 7:30 p.m. Special music will be provided by Carri Stammer, organist. Pallbearers will be Bruce Bushkossky, Bobby Johnson, Bob Leen, Bert Winrich, Jack Vos and Steve Wienke.
Francis Eugene Macek, son of Frank and Kathryn (Brennan) Macek, was born March 7, 1946, in Jackson. He attended school at Peace Memorial until attending Jackson High School where he graduated in 1964. Francis was employed as a meat cutter for various different grocery stores until he moved to Worthington in 1991 where he was employed as a meat manager at County Market.
Francis was a member of the Church of the Good Shepherd in Jackson and the Jackson Knights of Columbus. Survivors include his brother, John (Connie) Macek of Jackson.

Everett Collin
Everett Collin, 80, of Windom, died Nov. 19, 1998, at Windom Area Hospital. Services were held Monday at the United Methodist Church in Windom with Rev. Jeffrey D. Hansen officiating. Special music was provided by Deann Steele, organist, and Virginia Galle and Marvin Einertson, vocalists. Honorary pallbearers were the members of the Windom Golden K Kiwanis Club. Military honors were preformed by the Windom American Legion Post No. 206. Interment will be held at Voth Cemetery at a later date.
Everett Earl Collin was born Sept. 7, 1918, at Swea City, Iowa, to David and Rhoda (Sampson) Collin. The family lived in Aitkin area and Everett was baptized there in the Baptist Church. Ev, as most people knew him, attended the public schools through the eighth grade in Aitkin and after returning to southern Minnesota he completed his education at Sioux Valley and graduated from high school there in 1936. Later he graduated from Mankato State College in 1950 and then did graduate work at the Univeristy of Minnesota graduating from there in 1960. In between years of schooling he served his country honorably in the United States Air Force from 1941 to October 1945. In 1942, Everett married Genevieve May Wilson. Upon his honorable discharge from the Air Force in 1945, he and Gen lived in Cottonwood County until 1950 and then in Pipestone until 1952. In 1960 they moved to Washington D.C. where Ev worked for the National Aeronatics Space Administration. Upon his retirement in 1974, the family returned to live in Windom. Ev was a member of the United Methodist Church of Windom, the American Legion, the Masonic Lodge and Shriners and the Golden K Kiwanis Club. He also contributed time to the Windom Area Chamber of Commerce, the Southwest Area of Aging, the Nutrition Project Council - WCA and the Windom Area Booster Club. He received the mayor’s Medal of Honor and recognition from the National Aerospace Education Association for his many years of teaching.
Survivors include his wife, Gen, of Windom; his children, Carol (Robert) Kendrick of Ellicott City, Md.; Thomas Collin of Brecksville, Ohio; Mary (William) McCormack of Arlington, Texas; Richard Collin of Bismark, N.D.; and Daniel Collin of Windom; 11 grandchildren; three brothers, Ralph Collin of Memphis, Tenn.; Eugene Collin of Windom; David Collin of Heron Lake and two sisters, Anna (Gordon) Berge of Woffer Heights, Calif; and Maxine (Oliver) Courts of Cross Lake.

Alice Nelson
Services for Alice Nelson, 92, were held Monday at the First Presbyterian Church of Brewster with Rev. Ernest Nielsen officiating. Special music was provided by Joanne Nelson, organist, and Jarred Ratzloff, soloist. Alice’s children and grandchildren served as pallbearers. Interment was in the Hersey Cemetery near Brewster.
Alice L. Nelson, 92, was born March 26, 1906, to Adam and Katherina (Diedrich) Bauchle, in Alba Township, Jackson County. She attended country school and graduated from Brewster High School in 1922. Alice continued her education at Mankato Business School. She married Alfred Nelson in 1932. Alice was a member of American Legion Auxiliary Post 464, the Presbyterian Women of Brewster and was the oldest surviving member of First Presbyterian Church of Brewster.
She was preceded in death by her husband and her son, Ronnie. Survivors include her two sons, Larry (Joanne) Nelson and Richard (Janet) Nelson, all of Windom; one daughter, Mary Kay Anderson of Bingham Lake; 11 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

Gorden Rand
Gordon E. Rand, 72, of Jeffers died Nov. 22, 1998, at his home. Services will be held today (Wednesday) at 10:30 a.m. in the Trinity Lutheran Church at Jeffers. Interment with Military Honors will follow in the Jeffers Cemetery. Funeral arrangements are pending under the care of Anderson - Schmidt Funeral Home of Jeffers and Windom.

Laverl Oberle
Laverl Oberle, 88, of Jeffers, died at her home Nov. 22, 1998. Services are pending under the care of Anderson - Schmidt Funeral Home in Jeffers and Windom.

Ernest Vieregge
Earnest Vieregge, 102, of Windom, died Jan. 19, 1999, at the Sogge Good Samaritan Home in Windom. Services will be held today (Wednesday) at 2 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church in Windom with the Rev. Jeffrey Hansen officiating. Interment is in the Lakeview Cemetery in Windom.
Ernest Vieregge was born April 16, 1896, in Gilman, Ill., to William and Doris (Fluegge) Vieregge. He was baptized in the German Lutheran Church in Gilman, Ill., and later received his public education at Parker Elementary in Gilman and Great Bend Township, Cottonwood County. Ernest married Reta Mead in 1920 and after Reta’s death in 1968, he married Rachael Olsen in 1969. He farmed for many years in Great Bend Township until retiring and moving to Windom. Ernie was a member of the Odd Fellows, Kawanis Club and the Golden “K”and the Rotary Club, all of Windom. He was also a Sunday school teacher and a member of the Board of Director’s and Building Commission of the First United Methodist Church in Windom. He served on the Great Bend Township School Board and on the Rationing Board. Ernie was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Windom.
Ernie was preceded in death by his first wife, Reta; his second wife, Rachael, five sisters and four brothers. Survivors include four daughters, Lola (Gilmore) Olson of Windom; Phyllis (William) Cooksey of Bradenton, Fla.; Marian Andrews of Marshall and Doris Downs of Duluth; two step-children, Betty Loomis of Monmouth, Ill.; and Virgil Olsen of California; 10 grandchildren; 15-great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

Mabel Madson
Mabel Madson, 96, of Storden, formerly of Westbrook, died Jan. 24, 1999, at Windom Area Hospital. Services were held today (Wednesday) at 10:30 a.m. at the Storden Baptist Chruch in Storden with the Rev. David Johnson officiating. Interment was at the Storden Baptist Cemetery in rural Storden.
Mabel A. Madson was born Nov. 7, 1902, in Westbrook Township, Cottonwood County, to Hans and Mary (Peterson) Olson. Mabel grew up and attended country school in the Westbrook area. She married Reuben Madson in 1925. The couple farmed near Storden for 34 years until they retired and moved to Storden. Mabel was a seamstress for several years for several different people in the area. Mabel was a member of Storden Baptist Chruch for many years.
Mabel was preceded in death by her husband, Reuben in 1961; one son, Elwood; one brother; four sisters and one grandson. Survivors include her children, Wayland (Lucy) Madson of Woodbury; Janice (Roger) Bartels of Sioux Falls, S.D.; Reuben (Marcy) Madson of Westbrook; Ruth (Ronald) Quade of Woodbury; Arliss (Donald) Rust of Orchard Park, N.Y.; Keith (Barb) Madson of Storden; Charles (Tina) Madson of Faribault; 24 grandchildren and 44 great-grandchildren.

John Carsten
John “Jack” Carsten, 85, of Windom died Jan. 21, 1999, at the Good Samaritan Center in Jackson. Services were held Monday at Trinity Lutheran Church in Bergen with Pastor Carl Bruihler officiating. Special music was provided by Rene Ysker, vocalist; Jerry Giefer, guitarist; and Carol Sandve, organist. Pallbearers were Jeff Stumpf, Darin Aden, Ryan Erpestad, J.D. Carsten, Jim Curts and Paul Olson. Interment was at Bethany Lutheran Cemetery in Bergen.
John “Jack” Elick Carsten was born Oct. 28, 1913, in Brewster to John and Jessie (Janssen) Carsten. He grew up in the Brewster and Talcot Lake area. His education was begun in Brewster and completed at the Red, White and Blue Schoolhouse of rural Cottonwood County. In 1938, Jack married Harriet Hanson. From that time, Jack farmed in the Westbrook, Slayton and Heron Lake areas prior to moving to Bergen. Harriet died in 1987 and Jack moved to Windom.
Jack was preceded in death by his wife; two brothers, Pete and Tony Carsten; and two sisters, Anna Smith and Emma Kruse. Survivors include his children, Janice (Donald) Aden of Olivia; Judith (James) Stumpf of Worthington; Joan (Gary) Erpestad of Silt, Colo.; and James (Rosie) Carsten of Bingham Lake; 14 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and a sister, Lena Garland of New Braunfels, Texas.

Erna Nagorske
Erna Nagorske, 93, of Windom, died Jan. 19, 1999, at the Good Samaritan Village in Mt. Lake. Services were held Friday at the Lutheran Church of Our Savior in Windom with Rev. Paul Woebbeking officiating. Special music was provided by Linda Staples, organist. Pallbearers are all of Erna’s grandchildren. Interment was at Memory Gardens Cemetery in Windom. ErnaV.
Hoppe was born May 26, 1905, in Dale Township of Cottonwood County to Herman and Martha (Pfeil) Hoppe. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith and she received her education in the country schools in Dale Township. Erna married Reinhold H. Nagorske in 1929. The couple lived on a farm following their marriage. Reinhold died in 1980. Erna was a member of the Lutheran Church of Our Savior in Windom.
She was preceded in death by her husband, three brothers and four sisters. Survivors include her six children, Walter (Margie) Nagorske of Fairfax, Va.; Herb (Marlys) Nagorske of Bingham Lake; Eldon (Lorna) Nagorske of Windom; Alma (Bob) Peters of Montevideo; Erna (Dick) Kropp of Vesta and R. Junior (Donna) Nagorske of Truman; 12 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren.

Gladys Anderson
Gladys Anderson, 90, of Clearbrook died Jan. 19, 1999, at the Good Samaritan Center in Clearbrook. Services were held Saturday at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church at Ebro Corner with Rev. Mark Wold officiating. Interment was at Resthaven Memory Gardens in Windom.
Gladys Holte, daughter of Gabriel and Mathilda (Nelson) Holte, was born April 1, 1908, in Clearwater County. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. She attended District 54 school and graduated from Clearbrook High School in 1928. She attended Bemidji State Teacher’s College and taught elementary school for six years in Minneapolis. She married Elmer H. Anderson in 1941. Gladys worked in a defense plant in California during World War II. In 1947, she and her husband purchased a small grocery store in Windom which they sold in 1951. Gladys worked as a secretary/bookkeeper for the ASCS office in Cottonwood County for 25 years. After retiring she worked in the deputy registrar’s office in Windom. She resided at the Village of Bagley prior to moving to the Good Samaritan Center in 1993.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, one sister and her husband in 1975. Survivors include a sister, Clara West of Mesa, Ariz.; two brothers, Alf Holte of Bagley and Norman (Violet) Holte of Mankato.

Mabel Kuehl
Mabel Kuehl, 89, of Heron Lake died April 6, 1999, at the Sogge Good Samaritan Center in Windom. Services were held Saturday at United Methodist Church in Heron Lake with the Rev. Ryan Lord officiating. Special music was provided by Shelley Galle and Jeff Galle. Pallbearers were Dick Smith, Jerome Smith, Larry Smith, John Smith, Greg Sykora, Rodney Smith and Tom Kuehl. Honorary pallbearers were Gary Sykora, Curtis Sykora, Kornell Kuehl, Leonard Holck, Russ McCloud, DuWaine Sykora and Curt Miller. Interment was in the Jeffers Cemetery.
Mabel Luella Sykora, daughter of Charles and Mary (Moreviska) Sykora, was born Feb. 2, 1910, on her parents’ farm north of Westbrook. Mabel grew up on the family farm and attended country school. Following her education, Mabel stayed home and helped around the farm. Mabel married William Holck in 1932. Following their marriage the couple farmed near Westbrook, Renwick, Iowa, and then in the Jeffers area. They moved to Jeffers in 1951 and Mabel worked in a cafe and later was a cook in the school for 20 years. William died in 1974. Mabel married Leonard Kuehl in 1981. Following their marriage the couple lived in Heron Lake. As her health failed, Mabel was cared for by her daughter until she entered the Good Samaritan Center in Windom. Mabel was a member of the United Methodist Church in Heron Lake.
She was preceded in death by her husband, William; three brothers, Elmer, Claude and Vernal; and three sisters, Dorothy Kuehl, Alyce Smith and Ruth Frazee. Survivors include her husband, Leonard, of Windom; her daughter, Mary Ann Holck of Heron Lake; two step-daughters, Ardith (Loren) Voehl of Grand Rapids; and Lorene (Sylvan) Holland of Storden; two sisters, Esther (Lon) Mapes of El Cajon, Calif.; and Jeanette (Wayne) Chaney of Grass Valley, Calif.; two brothers, Clarence Sykora of Marshall and Gerald (Missy) Sykora of Camarillo, Calif.; 9 step-grandchildren; and 14 great-step-grandchildren.

Edgar Dunse
Edgar “Bud” Dunse, 78, of Jackson died April 8, 1999, at the Jackson Medical Center. Services were held Monday at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Heron Lake Township, Jackson County, with the Rev. William L. Keller II officiating. Special music was provided by Sarah Hinkeldey. Pallbearers were Fred Henning, Robert Ladehoff, Roland Neitzel, Virgil Richter, Dennis Garms and Dennis Neitzel. Honorary pallbearers were Maynard and Marcella Hohen-stein, Delbert and Verina Seimers, Reinhold and Lois Daberkow, Leonard Rients, Dr. Floyd Bertals, Ole Berg, Dr. Milton Peitz and Ray Rehnelts. Interment was at St. Peter Lutheran Cemetery in Delafield Township, Jackson County.
Edgar Frederick Johann Dunse, son of Gustav and Amalia (Kienitz) Dunse, was born June 24, 1920, on his parents’ farm in Delafield Township, Jackson County. Bud was baptized and later confirmed in the Lutheran faith at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Heron Lake Township, Jackson County. Bud grew up on the family farm and attended country and parochial school. Bud married Marcella Neitzel in 1943. Following their marriage the couple farmed in Delafield Township until moving to Lakefield in 1983. Bud worked at the Des Moines rest area and the Clear Lake rest area for many years. Bud was a member of St. Peter Lutheran Church. He was one of the founders of the Heron Lake Game Producers and served as president, vice president and a director on the board. He was also a member of the Jackson County Conservation League and the Lakefield Kiwanis.
Bud was preceded in death by four sisters, Bondina Mews, Irma Richter, Ella Henning and Alma Garms. Survivors include his wife, Marcella Dunse, of Lakefied; two sons, James (Donna) Dunse of Windom; and Charles (Peggy) Dunse of Windom; four daughters, Susan Clymer of Alpha; Sandra (Joseph) Bartosh of Eldridge, Iowa; Ruth (Glenn) Dicks of Lakefield and Donna (Randy) Hendrickson of Lakefield; 18 grandchildren; four great-grandsons; one step-great-granddaughter; and one sister, Emma Ladehoff of Windom.

Paul Rausenberger
Paul Rausenberger, 96, of Westbrook died April 6, 1999, at the Westbrook Good Samaritan Center. Services were held Friday at Grace Lutheran Church in Westbrook with the Rev. Gordon Trelstad officiating. Special music was provided by Betty Rupp, organist, and Eunice Christensen, vocalist. Pallbearers were Lesley Rausenberger, Gary Busswitz, Delbert Jensen, James Rausenberger, Roger Busswitz and Everett Bevier. Interment was in Emmanuel Lutheran Cemetery in Rosehill Township, Westbrook.
Paul Edward Rausenberger, son of Jacob and Emma (Grams) Rausenberger, was born Aug. 5, 1902, in Rosehill Township, Cottonwood County. He was baptized and confirmed at Emmanuel Lutheran Church. He attended School District #48 Country School in Rosehill Township. In 1930, he married Helen Kuehl. They farmed south of Westbrook until 1955 when they purchased and operated the former Westbrook Hotel. Paul worked for the Westbrook Light Plant and retired in 1969 when they moved to Westbrook. Both Paul and Helen became residents of the Westbrook Good Samaritan Center in 1993. He was an active member of the Rosehill Emmanuel Lutheran Church where he served as a Deacon. Later he was a member of Grace Lutheran Church.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Helen; five brothers, Henry, William, Walter, George and Alfred; and three sisters, Freda Busswitz, Nellie Comnick and Stella Jensen. Survivors include his daughter, Vernette (Curtis) Passmore of Omaha, Neb.; one sister, Ann Lidtke of Westbrook; three grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Leona Mattison
Leona Mattison, 91, of Lamberton died April 11, 1999, at Valley View Manor in Lamberton. Services will be held today (Wednesday) at the Highwater Lutheran Church in rural Lamberton with the Rev. Michael Stangeland officiating. Pallbearers will be Brian Engen, Paul Tews, Terry Quiring, Brant Nerhus, Michael Mattison and Waylon Mattison. Interment will be at Highwater Lutheran Cemetery in Lamberton.
Leona Arlene Quiring, daughter of Peter and Mena (Ellingson) Quiring, was born Feb. 19, 1908, in Highwater Township. She grew up on the family farm in Highwater Township and attended country school in District #3. In 1928, she married Minnerd Mattison. The couple made their home on a farm in Highwater Township where they farmed until retiring in 1962 and moved to Lamberton. Leona was a member of Highwater Lutheran Church, W.E.L.C.A., Highwater Kitchen Band and did volunteer work at Valley View Manor.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Minnerd; brothers, Elton, “Bobby”, Lawrence “Shortie” and Walter Quiring; sisters, Vivian and Lilace Quiring. Survivors include her children, Myron (Lois) Mattison of Revere; LuEtta (James) Engen of Lamberton; Arlin (Peggy) Mattison of Jackson; Dennis (Margie) Mattison of Lamberton; and Janet Nerhus of Windom; 13 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; sisters, Bernice (Armin) Kastner of Lamberton; Lila Ness of Siren, Wis.; and a brother Donald (Arliss) Quiring of Lamberton.

Kenneth Clark
Kenneth Clark, 73, of Westbrook died April 11, 1999, at Sioux Valley Hospital in Sioux Falls, S.D. Services were held today (Wednesday) at Grace Lutheran Church in Westbrook with the Rev. Gordon Trelstad officiating. Special music was provided by Deloris Winter, organist, and Eunice Christensen, soloist. Pallbearers were his grandchildren, David Fowler, Tim Fowler, Heather Krick, Heath Krick, Dustin Krick and Krystle Clark. Honorary pallbearers were Ken Wahl, Rich Albertson, Wayne Micshke, Rob Anderson, Voyne Bunting and Bob Bunting. Interment was at Westbrook City Cemetery with military honors provided by the Westbrook VFW and American Legion.
Kenneth Eugene Clark was born Aug. 25, 1925, to Guy and Iris (Wilde) Clark in Lakefield. He grew up in the Heron Lake area and attended the Red, White and Blue Country School. He graduated from Heron Lake High School. Following graduation he entered the Army in 1944 and served in Okinawa during World War II. He was wounded in action, honorably discharged and received the Purple Heart. In 1948, he married Addeline Nimerfroh. Following their marriage they lived near Dundee where they farmed until moving to Viola, Wis., in 1980. In 1984 they moved to Belvidere, Ill., where Kenny served as sexton of the Belvidere Cemetery. In 1989, following retirement, they moved to Westbrook to make their home. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. Kenny was a life-long member of the Veteran’s of Foreign Wars, serving in various VFW positions.
He was preceded in death by his two brothers, Norman and Guy D. Clark. Survivors include his wife, Addie, of Westbrook; two daughters, Judy (Bob) Fowler of Perham; Connie (Roger) Krick of Westbrook; one son, Rick (Susan) Clark of Marshfield, Wis.; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; three sisters, Lois Legare of Maple Grove; Geneva Dannewitz of Tucson, Ariz.; Donna (Marty) Wendling of Tucson, Ariz.; and one brother, Clifford (Peg) Clark of Brooklyn Park.

Peter Mohlman
Peter Mohlman, 89, died March 27, 1999, at Pine Medical Health Care Center in Sandstone. Services were held April 7 at Peace Lutheran Church in Finlayson with the Rev. Matthew Vrudny officiating. Special music was provided by Veloren Osladil, organist. Pallbearers were Robert Stenke, Joe Koenig, Curt Muller, Robert Beehler, Mike Koenig, Donald Schmidt and Elwyn Muller. Interment was in Fort Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis.
Peter Fredreck Mohlman, son of Peter and Julia (Mueller) Mohlman, was born April 4, 1909, in Mt. Lake. He grew up and attended rural school near Mt. Lake. Peter spent his life working as a carpenter and as a bellhop at a hotel in Sioux Falls, S.D. He also served in the Army during World War II. For may years he played Santa Claus at Christmas delivering candy and gifts to needy children near his home. Since 1997, he had been a resident of Pine Medical Health Care Center in Sandstone.
