Lawrence Harlo Irgens, 70
Lawrence Harlo Irgens was born on October 14, 1929 in Alexandria to Lawrence Henry Irgens and Tomena (Lee) Irgens. He grew up in Fergus Falls and Madison, Minnesota. In 1947 he graduated from Madison Senior High School where he was class valedictorian, quarterback for his football team and captain of his basketball team. He attended Luther College and later the University of Minnesota. In 1950 he received Bachelor of Science and Bachelor of Arts degrees from the University. He continued his studies at the University of Minnesota School of Dentistry where he earned his Doctorate in Dental Surgery in 1957, and was elected as a Graduate Fellow of the Psi Omega Dental Fraternity. In 1971 Dr. Irgens completed a Master's degree in Public Health from the University of Minnesota where he focused on the study of dental services in small communities.
During his 43 years of practice, Larry served the dental community in many capacities. He was a Governor Appointee to the Minnesota State Board of Dentistry for four years and served on the Regional Board of Dental Examiners for 12 years. He worked as the Director of Dental Services for the Minnesota Department of Public Health and as the President of both the West Central District of Dentistry and the University of Minnesota Dental Alumni Association. In 1986 he was elected to the Pierre Fauchard Academy of Dentistry. In 1987 and 1989 respectively, he was elected Fellow of the International College of Dentists and Fellow of the American College of Dentists. He practiced dentistry in Roros, Norway in 1971, serving as a District Dental Officer at the invitation of The Royal Norwegian Ministry of Social Affairs. He promoted the introduction and use of fluoride in the drinking water in Norway as well as Minnesota and conducted a clinic in the Alexandria area for the early detection and diagnosis of oral cancer.
On June 17, 1960, he married Patricia Marie Litsheim in Eau Claire, Wisconsin. Together they lived in Moorhead, Glenwood, Roros (Norway), Minneapolis and Alexandria. Between 1961 and 1969 they had four children: Caroline, Stephen, David and Teddy. In 1972 they moved to Alexandria and Larry opened a new practice. In 1974, following a brief illness, Patricia died of breast cancer.
On February 18, 1977, Larry married Ruth (Pedersen) Anfinsen and became step-father to Peter, Mary and Jana Anfinsen. They raised their seven children in Alexandria and watched with pride and joy as each found his or her place in the world.
Larry was long active in community organizations, serving as a member of Kiwanis, Rotary International and Toastmasters. Always active in his church he taught the Bethal Bible Series at Glenwood Lutheran Church, served on several stewardship committees and served two terms on the First Lutheran Church Council. He loved sports, history, literature and the performing arts. His particular love was the symphony and he played violin in the community orchestra and at First Lutheran Church.
On January 25, 2000, Larry suffered a fatal cardiac arrest. He is survived by his wife Ruth; sister Lee Ann (Irgens) Torlakson; children and step-children: Peter and Holly Anfinsen, Caroline (Irgens) and Chris Roback, Mary (Anfinsen) and Ken LeBlanc, Stephen and Sue Irgens, David Irgens, Jana (Anfinsen) and Michael Hanson and Ted Irgens; and 13 grandchildren: Andrew, Alecia, Brandon, Sara, Jonathan, Rachel, Anna, Amy, Megan, Elena, Zachary, Ian and Lee.
Funeral services were held on Saturday, January 29, 2000 at First Lutheran Church in Alexandria. Interment was in the Kinkead Cemetery.
His family asks that any memoriums be made to either First Lutheran Church or the American Cancer Society.
Arrangements were with the Anderson Funeral Home, Alexandria.

Richard Oleson (Rick), 44
Richard W. Oleson (Rick) was born March 7, 1955 in Watertown, South Dakota, the son of Darrell and LaVonne (Christianson) Oleson. Rick spent the majority of his life in Owatonna, Minnesota, where he was confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church and in 1973 graduated from Owatonna High School. Following graduation Rick worked for National Tree Association and then Commonwealth Electric, which put him in Nebraska, then Texas.
Richard and Debra Maloney were married August 30, 1980 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Alexandria.
In 1980, with Deb and his daughter, Maigen, Rick began his employment with Ottertail Power Company as a lineman at Hallock. Angela was born there in 1981. His job transferred him to Canby where he was a service representative. Lindsey was born there in 1985. In 1988 Rick and his family moved to Dawson where they have lived for 12 years. He continued to work for Ottertail, this being his 20th year.
Rick and his family enjoyed their extended family weekend getaways at the lake. Rick enjoyed most being with friends, laughing, and his favorite activities of fishing, hunting and golf.
Rick died at his home on Friday, January 28, 2000 following an 18-month battle with cancer.
Rick is survived by his wife, Deb; daughters: Angela and Lindsey in Dawson and Maigen Oleson of Kasson; parents: Darrell and LaVonne Oleson of Owatonna; mother-in-law, Rose Ann Maloney of Alexandria; brother: Randy Oleson of Owatonna; sisters: Deb (Jurgen) Duhr of Clinton, IA; Tammy (Tom) Harber of Blooming Prairie; Lori (Brian) Markham of Medford; Jill Dahl of Owatonna; brother-in-law, Pat (Jennifer) Maloney and sister-in-law Renae (Tom) Hills of Alexandria; and other family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents and father-in-law Gene Maloney.
Rick will be remembered most for his sense of humor and his love of being with his friends. He enjoyed fishing and could never have enough fishing tackle or power tools.
Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Monday, January 31, 2000 at Grace Lutheran Church in Dawson with Pastor Paul Christopher, Father Robert Goblirsch and Sister Vivian Peterson officiating. Vocal soloist was Jennifer Maloney and organist Mary Walsh accompanied the congregation singing hymns.
Members of the Dawson Fire Department were honorary casketbearers and Bob Walsh, Jeff Fish, Jim Heinrich, Wayne Johnson, Larry Stangeland, Merle Schwenzfier, Jim Hotzfield and Kirk Costin were active casketbearers. Interment was in the Dawson Cemetery.
Arrangements were with the Hanson and Dahl Funeral Home of Dawson.

Blanche Ording, 95
Blanche Kapphahn Ording, age 95, of Hibbing, Minnesota and formerly of Alexandria, Monmouth, Illinois and Moorhead died Friday, January 28, 2000 in Leisure Hills of Hibbing. She was born August 25, 1904 in Hudson Township, Minnesota, the daughter of Henry J. and Anne (Fisher) Kapphahn. She graduated from Alexandria High School and was married to Karl Erick Ording on July 2, 1940 in Elbow Lake.
Following their marriage Karl and Blanche moved to Moorhead where they lived for nearly 20 years. They then moved to Monmouth, Illinois and in 1967 returned to Alexandria. Blanche later moved to Hibbing where she has lived since 1986.
Blanche was a homemaker, a member of the Hibbing Christian and Missionary Alliance Church and was involved in several church circles and sewing clubs.
She is survived by her daughter Judy (Leon) Cross of Hibbing; two granddaughters; Laurie Lynne Cross of Eden Prairie; Debra Lee Cross of Waite Park; two sisters-in-law; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers: Leon and Wilson; and three sisters: Lora, Marge and Ethel.
Funeral Service was on Monday, January 31, 2000 at 11 a.m. in the Christian and Missionary Alliance Church in Hibbing with Reverend Todd Block officiating. A spring interment is planned in the Sunset Cemetery in Alexandria.
Family services are provided by Anderson-Daniels, a Bauman Family Funeral Home in Hibbing. Memorials are preferred.

Kyle Westphal, 13
Kyle Westphal was born in Alexandria, Minnesota, on January 5, 1987, the son of Gary and Diane (Van Peursem) Westphal. He was baptized at the Faith Community Reformed Church in Alexandria and attended schools in Alexandria.
His brothers and parents remember Kyle as a good natured, energetic, strong-willed, determined and courageous boy. He was influenced by his brothers to play hockey and for the past five seasons was the goalie on the Alexandria traveling teams, currently playing for the Alexandria Pee Wee "A" team. He also played other sports including soccer, baseball and golf and also enjoyed hunting and fishing. While he loved his athletic activities, he recently confided to others that his greatest memories were of his family vacations.
Kyle died on Friday, January 28, 2000, at his home after his courageous battle against his illness.
He is survived by his parents, Gary and Diane Westphal of Alexandria; brothers: Brad Westphal and Corey Westphal both of Alexandria; grandparents: Harold and Betty Westphal of Spring Valley and Harriet Van Peursem of Pipestone. Also surviving are several aunts and uncles. Kyle was preceded in death by his grandfather Elmer Van Peursem and aunt Marlys Van Peursem.
Funeral services were held on Monday, January 31, 2000 at 3:30 p.m. at the Lake Geneva Christian Center in Alexandria. Organist was Donna Anderson. Vocalist was Kim Byrne and Deb Bouwman served as song leader. Pallbearers were Kyle's friends with interment at the Kinkead Cemetery in Alexandria.
Arrangements were with the Anderson Funeral Home.

Warren Lorenz Oakstrom, 72
Warren Lorenz Oakstrom, 72, of Alexandria, Minnesota, passed away on Monday, January 31, 2000. Warren was born February 20, 1927 in Lien Township, Grant County, Minnesota to Lorenz and Mildred (Watson) Oakstrom. He was baptized and confirmed in the Barrett Covenant Church. He attended rural school District 14, graduated from Barrett High School in 1944 and attended the University of Minnesota, St. Paul Campus.
He worked for the Grant County D.H.I.A. for five years after which he started farming with his father. In 1967 he took over the operation of the farm. He sold Farm Bureau Insurance and was a De Kalb seed corn dealer for many years. Warren moved to Alexandria in 1994.
He was a member of the United Methodist Church, Alexandria. Also Warren was an active member of the Odd Fellows in Herman for many years.
Survivors include a sister Janice and husband Tallack Johnson of Detroit Lakes; a nephew Leland and wife Tracy, children: Anna and Emma Johnson of Coon Rapids; nieces: Rebecca and husband Rick, children: John and Melissa Windom of Mankato; Marie and husband Gregory Ready, Fort Walton Beach, Florida; and Wanda and husband Daniel Feela, North Pole, Alaska.
He was preceded in death by his father and mother.
Funeral services were held on Saturday, February 5, 2000 at 1 p.m. at the United Methodist Church, Alexandria with Pastor William Rowen officiating. Organist was Kathleen Haining.
Pallbearers were Rick Windom, Leland Johnson, Charles Johnson, Ronald Johnson, Robert Lindblom and LeRoy Lindblom. Interment was at Barrett Covenant Cemetery.
Services were directed by Petermeier's Alexandria Funeral Home.

Robert A. Theriault, 77
Robert A. Theriault, age 77, passed away February 1, 2000 at his home on Fish Hook Lake near Park Rapids, Minnesota.
Bob was born December 5, 1922 to Elmar and Marie (Freiert) Theriault in Wadena. He attended Wadena Public School and graduated in the spring of 1940. After graduation he enlisted in the United States Navy Air Corps. In 1941 he was called up to attend flight prep school at St. Olaf College in Northfield as a Pilot Aviator. He served his country for nearly three years during WWII and was honorably discharged in 1945.
On September 3, 1950, Bob was united in marriage to Marian Jordahl in Wadena. This union was blessed with one son, Mike, and two daughters, Kathy and Connie. He was employed first as a salesman and later a manager for the Gas Company in Wadena and Alexandria. He was also employed by Investors Diversified Services for several years. He also set up and managed a plumbing business in Marshall. In 1973 Bob bought a NAPA Store in Wadena which he ran until his retirement in 1984. In November of 1985, Bob and Marian moved to the Park Rapids area and bought a home on Fish Hook Lake. Bob was an avid fisherman and hunter. Though very weak in October of 1999 he climbed up on his stand and shot a deer - his family was so glad God gave him this last great thrill.
Bob was a member of the Otto Hendrickson American Legion Post #212 and attended Faith Baptist Church in Park Rapids. Above all he dedicated his life to his family whom he loved with all his heart.
He will be lovingly remembered by his wife of nearly 50 years, Marian; three children: Michael (Sue) Theriault of Maiden Rock, WI; Kathy Hall of Wadena; Connie (Gary) Stelzer of Menahga; seven grandchildren whom he loved so much: Sara, Mandy and Jason Hall, Jill Leyh and Kayla Stelzer and Summer and Becky Theriault, as well as other dear friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents Elmar and Marie, and his sister Connie Pritchett.
Services were held at 1 p.m. on Friday, February 4, 2000 at Faith Baptist Church in Park Rapids with Reverend Marty Giese and Reverend Russ Paulson officiating. The organist was Jane Wolff and the soloist, Angela Ahrendt.
Casketbearers were Wayne Kopp, Wally Mueller, Ray Achter, Mike Freeman, Tom Idso, Ted Fischer, Clarence Steffens, Dale Pritchard, Gary Tigue, Tom Nyberg, Skipp Tullgren, Jim Thompson and Russ Wilcox. Military honors were conducted by the Otto Hendrickson American Legion Post #212 of Park Rapids. Ray Vaadeland played Taps and the Naval Anthem. Interment was at the Wadena City Cemetery in Wadena.
Arrangements were with the Jones-Pearson Funeral Home in Park Rapids.

Michael Kugler, 20
Michael Eric Kugler was born on September 29, 1979, the son of Matthew and Susan (Bertram) Kugler in LaCrosse, Wisconsin. The family moved to the Alexandria area when Michael was in the second grade. He was confirmed in May, 1996 at Bethesda Lutheran Church. After graduating from Jefferson High School in 1998, Michael attended North Dakota State University studying business. During the summer months, he worked with Lee's Construction for four years.
Michael's enthusiasm for sports included playing basketball, tennis, golf and later playing volleyball, softball and intramural football at college. Michael coached children at the YMCA and was a referee. Music interests included singing in the church choir and playing trombone in the high school jazz band and marching band. He also enjoyed hunting and fishing. Michael's dream was to finish college with a business degree and operate his own sporting goods store.
Michael's presence was known when he entered a room with his 6'6" frame and will always be remembered for his caring and compassion of others.
Michael died unexpectedly on January 30, 2000, at the age of 20, following surgery for appendicitis. Michael's family, including his aunts, uncles and cousins were important to him. He is survived by his parents and a brother, Brad, of rural Miltona; grandmothers, Lois Bertram of Elk River and Patricia Kugler of Waconia; great uncle Jerome Lyden; aunts and uncles, Sandra Bertram, Julie Wood, Greg and Janice Gramith, Thomas and Kim Bertram, David Kugler, Robert Kugler, Jeff Kugler, Terry Kugler, Karen Kugler; cousins, Meg and Shayne Simon, Eric and Jacob Bertram and Jennifer Gramith.
Michael is preceded in death by his grandfathers, Harold Bertram and Matthew G. Kugler.
A funeral service was held on February 2, 2000 at the Bethesda Lutheran Church in Alexandria with Reverend Peter Martinson officiating. Music was provided by Carol Jacobson, organist, Sue Edwards, vocalist and the Bethesda Church Choir.
Pallbearers included Shayne Simon, Mike Swalley, Eric Salmi, Todd Ferguson, Mark Odland, Erik Halverson, Greg Thompson, Eric Vogensen, Dustin Jundt and Kevin Binger.
Interment will be private.
Arrangements were with the Anderson Funeral Home, Alexandria.

Louis Loeffler, 90
Louis Loeffler, age 90, of Osakis, Minnesota, passed away on Tuesday, February 1, 2000 at the Douglas County Hospital in Alexandria.
Louis Joseph Loeffler was born on August 14, 1909 in Leaf Valley to Jacob and Catherine (Gappa) Loeffler. He married Hildegard Stariha on October 25, 1932 in Millerville. They farmed near Millerville and Louis also worked as a feed grinder at the Flour Milling Company in Millerville. In 1958 they moved to Minneapolis where Louis worked for the Creosote Pole Company. He then changed jobs and went to work as a second class engineer for the Minneapolis Gas Company. On April 4, 1970 Louis married Marion Fredrick in Minneapolis. After 12 years with the gas company Louis retired and returned to Central Minnesota to live on Lake Darling in Alexandria. In 1992 he and Marion moved to the Latoka Apartments and then in 1999 they moved again to the Terrace Heights Apartments in Osakis.
Because his faith was very important to him, Louis was an active member of the church wherever he lived. He first belonged to the Seven Dolors Parish in Millerville and was a member of the choir. When they moved to Minneapolis he joined Our Lady of Victory Church. Upon returning to the Alexandria area he became a member at St. Mary's and when they made their final move to Osakis he joined the Immaculate Conception Parish. Louis was a 70 year member of the Knights of Columbus and also belonged to the Catholic Aid Association. He also had served on the District 43 school board while farming in Millerville.
Louis had many interests, first among them was his love for music and singing. He also had a green thumb and enjoyed working in his garden. He was a very social person and loved to get out bowling with his friends or just meet for a game of cards. In the summers he could be found out on the lake trying to catch some fish or home cheering for his favorite baseball team.
He is lovingly survived by his wife, Marion Loeffler of Osakis; children: Austin (Darlene) Loeffler of Brooklyn Park; Harriet Sibell of Osakis; Irene (Bruce) Heath of Minneapolis; stepson: Roger Fredrick of Minneapolis; 10 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; sister: Helen Wagner of Alexandria; and many nieces and nephews.
Preceding him in death are his parents; first wife, Hildegard; son-in-law: Sheldon Sibell; brothers: James, Edward and George Loeffler; sisters: Mary, Anna and Elizabeth Klimek; Katherine Wagner and Mathilda Hammer.
A Mass of Resurrection was held on Saturday, February 5, 2000 at 11 a.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Alexandria with Father Al Ludwig officiating. Music was provided by organist, Lynn Lynch and soloist Adolf Wagner. Interment was at the Seven Dolors Cemetery in Millerville.
Honorary pallbearers were the members of the Knights of Columbus.
Active pallbearers were John and Thomas Loeffler, Kevin and Chad Heath, David Crotteau and Jeff Arkfeld.
Funeral arrangements were handled by the Roy-Hetland Funeral Home, Osakis.

Esther Zimmerman, 89
Esther A. Zimmerman was born on March 16, 1910, the daughter of Emil and Augusta Freier in Miltona Township, Minnesota. Esther was baptized and confirmed at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in West Miltona where Esther had been a lifetime member. Esther was united in marriage to Ed Zimmerman on April 10, 1943. The couple made their home in Chicago.
Esther later moved to Alexandria. She was famous for her cooking and baked goods at Travelers Inn where she had been employed for 18 years. Esther was a volunteer at Bethany Home and the Senior Center. She was remembered last year with a surprise birthday party given to her by her special friends.
Esther died on January 30, 2000 at the age of 89. She is survived by a step-son Gerald and wife Barbara Zimmerman of Oak Lawn, Illinois; step-grandchildren; sister-in-law Helen Freier of Fergus Falls; nieces and nephews; and many, many friends in the Alexandria area. She is preceded in death by her husband Ed; brothers: Emil, Fred, Paul, Frank; and sisters: Gusstie, Tes, Emma, Hilda and Elnora.
A memorial service was held on February 3, 2000 with Reverend Daniel Woodring officiating. Music was provided by Deb Joachim.
Interment was in the Oak Hill Cemetery in Worth, Illinois.
Arrangements were with the Anderson Funeral Home, Alexandria.

Ella Wilcox, 88
Ella Wilcox was born on April 18, 1911, the daughter of Eddie and Minnie (Olson) Hedstrom in Solem Township, Minnesota. Ella attended and graduated from school in rural Kensington. She worked for families in the Kensington area and later worked at North American Creamery where she met Paul "Scotty" Wilcox. In June, 1936, Ella and Scotty were united in marriage. She also worked as a cook and waitress and later became a Nurses Aide at Bethany Home for 23 years. Ella retired in 1986.
Ella was a member of Calvary Lutheran Church. She enjoyed doing handiwork and loved to dance. She also enjoyed spending time with family.
Ella died on February 2, 2000 at the age of 88. She is survived by son, Richard Hedstrom of Kensington; daughters: Sharon Muzik of Alexandria; Jean (James) Dockendorf of Cold Spring; nine grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; one brother, Lenor Hedstrom of Fergus Falls; two sisters: Grace Culross of Los Angeles, CA and Elaine and husband Clarence Perkins of Santa Barbara, CA. She was preceded in death by her husband Scotty on August 4, 1992, brother Leonard Hedstrom and sister Elsie Bjorklund.
A funeral service was held on February 5, 2000 at the Calvary Lutheran Church in Alexandria with Reverend Marvin Larson officiating. Music was provided by Sandy Buckner.
Interment was in Oscar Lake Cemetery in Holmes City Township. Pallbearers included Ella's grandsons Tim Dockendorf, David Dockendorf, Tom Hedstrom and great-grandsons Joel Bruss, Jason Bruss and Jamie Bruss.
Arrangements were with the Anderson Funeral Home in Alexandria.

Rosalie H. Johnson, 60
Rosalie H. Johnson, 60, a resident of Fergus Falls, Minnesota, died on Saturday, February 5, 2000 at MeritCare Hospital in Fargo, North Dakota.
She was born on February 16, 1939 at the Wright's Hospital in Fergus Falls, the daughter of Howard and Ramona (Mavis) Hoff. She was baptized and confirmed at Aastad Lutheran Church in rural Fergus Falls. Rosalie grew up on the family farm in Aastad Township, attended Country School No. 157 and graduated from Fergus Falls High School in 1957. After high school she attended Alexandria Technical College where she graduated with a degree in LPN Nursing.
On June 17, 1967, she married Norman Johnson at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Fergus Falls. After their marriage the couple made their home in Alexandria. In 1994 they moved to Fergus Falls. Rosalie worked at the Regional Treatment Center in Fergus Falls from 1988 until she was forced to retire due to her illness in 1998.
She was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Fergus Falls. She enjoyed visiting with family and friends, flowers, traveling and her cats and dogs.
Preceding her in death was her father Howard.
Survivors include her husband, Norman, of Fergus Falls; her mother, Ramona Hoff of Fergus Falls; two uncles, Milton (Bess) Hoff and Lawrence (Leanna) Mavis all of Fergus Falls; and an aunt, Vivian Hoff of Garfield. Also surviving are numerous cousins.
Funeral services were at 11 a.m. on Tuesday at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Fergus Falls with Reverend Paul Nelson and Reverend Nancy Windels officiating. Interment was in the Bethlehem Lutheran Cemetery, Fergus Falls.
Arrangements were with the Olson Funeral Home, Fergus Falls.

Lois Grinstead, 85
Lois Grinstead, age 85, of Osakis, Minnesota passed away on Saturday, February 5, 2000 at the Knute Nelson Memorial Home in Alexandria where she had been a resident since 1996.
Lois Mae Reynolds was born on June 2, 1914 in Penora, Iowa to Elmer and Inez (Parsons) Reynolds. When she was only two years old, her mother died, and at the age of five Lois moved with her father to Redwood Falls. On November 18, 1941 Lois was united in marriage to Raymond Grinstead in Seaforth. They lived at Morgan until 1956 when they moved to the Osakis area. Lois worked as a nurses aid at the Douglas County Hospital for 23 years before retiring in 1979.
Spending her time helping others was important to Lois. She was a volunteer at the Community Memorial Home, a helper at the Senior Citizen Popcorn Wagon, a cook for the local Nutrition Center and also donated her time and talents working on the mission quilts made by her church. She was a member of Osakis Lutheran Church and belonged to Rebekah Circle.
One of her favorite activities, however, was just being home baking pies and other treats for when her grandchildren would come over. She liked to spend as much time with them as she could. She also enjoyed doing all kinds of hand work. Whether it was a crochet project, knitting, embroidery or sewing, she could do it all. She especially looked forward to the warm weather when she could work out in her garden, tending her many flowers. A day or evening of fishing or playing whist with friends also brought her much pleasure. Traveling and reading were some of her other favorite pastimes.
Lois is lovingly survived by her children: Gary and Betty Grinstead of Osakis; Roger and Elaine Grinstead of Stillwater; Ardella and Robert Schluender of Osakis; seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; a brother, Richard Reynolds of Iowa; two sisters: Elsie Borth of Redwood Falls and Dorothy Wise of Talatka, Florida; and many nieces and nephews.
Preceding her in death are her parents, husband Raymond in 1981; four brothers: Clarence, Robert, Melford and Eldon Reynolds; and sister, Florence Borth.
Funeral services were held on Wednesday, February 9, 2000 at 11 a.m. at the Osakis Lutheran Church with Reverend Ron Calvert officiating. Organist Vicki Hinrich accompanied soloist, Dana Hetland. Interment was at the West Evergreen Cemetery in Osakis.
Arrangements were with the Roy-Hetland Funeral Home, Osakis.

Stanley Hagedorn, 69
Stanley "Bud" Hagedorn was born on November 12, 1930, the son of Stanisley and Augusta (Horst) Hagedorn in Millerville, Minnesota. He attended rural school in Millerville and grew to manhood in the Brandon and Millerville area. Stanley took over the family farm in rural Brandon when his father died. Stanley later owned and operated Bud's Drey in Brandon. Later he entered the United States Air Force and served four years. Shortly after his discharge, Stanley started working at First National Bank in Alexandria.
Stanley was united in marriage to Marjorie Steidl on August 6, 1957 in Belle River Church. He continued working at the bank until 1962 when he transferred to First National Bank in Spring Valley. In 1980 the couple moved to Battle Lake where Stanley worked at First National Bank for several years before working in the crop insurance business in Henning.
Stanley enjoyed fishing, cribbage, playing the accordion and spending time with his family. He was a member of the Church of Our Lady of Seven Dolors and the Knights of Columbus.
Stanley died on February 5, 2000 at the age of 69. He is survived by his wife, Marjorie of Brandon; sons: Michael Hagedorn of Orlando, FL; Greg Hagedorn of Alexandria; Tom and wife Kathryn Hagedorn of Maplewood; Robert Hagedorn of Kasson; Matt Hagedorn of Colorado Springs, CO; Chris Hagedorn of Millerville; daughters: Sue Iverson of Mantorville; Julie and husband Tim Teig of Detroit Lakes; 11 grandchildren; step father John Daas of Evansville; brothers: Jerry Hagedorn of Brandon; Donald and wife Bev Hagedorn of Preston; Jim Daas of Brandon; sisters: Betty and husband Reuben Henke of Brandon; Rose and husband Dewey Steidl of Miltona; and Marge and husband Mike Clare of Bloomington. Stanley was preceded in death by his parents and grandson Daniel Teig.
A Mass of Christian Burial was held on February 8, 2000 at the Church of Our Lady of Seven Dolors with Reverend Eugene Lemm and Reverend Paul Folsom officiating. Music was provided by Rose Korkowski, as organist, and Casey Lankow, soloist.
Interment was in the Church of Seven Dolors Cemetery. Pallbearers included Stanley's sons: Michael, Greg, Tom, Robert, Matt and Chris Hagedorn.
Arrangements were with the Anderson Funeral Home, Alexandria.

Edith (Alm) Yohan
Edith was a former resident of Rose City and Alexandria, living the last years in San Diego, California. She passed away February 4, 2000.

Borghill Nordstrom, 105
Borghill "Brownie" was born on June 17, 1894 in Worthington, Minnesota the daughter of Hans and Bertha (Hanson) Myrum. She attended grade and high school in Worthington.
On September 21, 1923, Borghill was united in marriage to Carl Nordstrom in Logan, Iowa. After their marriage the couple moved to Sioux City, Iowa where they lived until Carl's retirement in 1960. While living in Sioux City, Brownie was a volunteer for the American Red Cross during the floods. In 1961 the Nordstroms moved to Alexandria. Mr. Nordstrom died in 1982.
Brownie was a member of the P.E.O. in Sioux City, Eastern Star, a volunteer at Knute Nelson for many years and a member of First Lutheran Church in Alexandria.
Mrs. Nordstrom died on Sunday, February 6, 2000 at the Knute Nelson Memorial Home. She is survived by two sisters: Viola Torbeck of Worthington, Mable Flagg of Worthington; nieces and nephews: Mary Rasmussen and husband Lowell, Susan, Alan and Don Wells, Janet Shaffer; several great nieces and nephews and special friend Lillian Norland.
She was preceded in death by her husband Carl; four sisters and two brothers.
Funeral services were held on Friday, February 11, 2000 at 2 p.m. at First Lutheran Church in Alexandria.
Pallbearers were Gregg Vieregge, Milo Widmark, Owen Miller, Phil Jesness, Douglas Wallace and Garrett Visser.
Interment was at Kinkead Cemetery in Alexandria.
Services were directed by Petermeier's Alexandria Funeral Home.

Alma Sara Vogt, 91
Alma Sara Vogt, age 91, of Parkers Prairie, Minnesota, died Wednesday, February 9, 2000 at the St. William's Living Center in Parkers Prairie.
Alma was born May 28, 1908 to William and Wilhelmina (Schoenthall) Alexander in Fort Dodge, Iowa and as a young girl moved with her family to Leaf Valley Township. She attended country school in Effington Township. Alma was united in marriage to Albert Vogt on June 6, 1925 in Leaf Valley Township, Douglas County. They moved to St. Paul where Alma was employed by Brown and Bigelow for 32 years. After her retirement she continued to live in St. Paul until 1988 when she returned to Parkers Prairie. She was an active member of Esther Lutheran Church.
Alma is survived by one brother Alfred Alexander of Parkers Prairie and several nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her husband Albert who died May 6, 1973, her parents and four brothers.
Funeral services were on Saturday, February 12, 2000 at Esther Lutheran Church, Eastern Township, Otter Tail County, with Pastor Kenneth Thiele officiating. Organist was Myrtle Arvidson and soloist, Gene Inwards.
Casketbearers were Anthony Alexander, Timothy Alexander, Alfred Vogt, Daniel Vogt, Richard Vogt and Billy Johnson. Interment was in Parkers Prairie Cemetery.
Arrangements were with the Markham Funeral Home, Parkers Prairie.

Shirley Ann Robideaux, 52
Shirley Ann Robideaux, 52, of Villard, Minnesota, died on Thursday at Fairview University Hospital in Minneapolis.
Funeral services were on Tuesday at 10 a.m. at Villard Methodist Church in Villard. Private family interment in Lake Leven Cemetery will be in the spring.
Shirley "Snookie" was born September 19, 1947 in Starbuck to the parents Albin and Delores (Larson) Olson. She married Ronald Robideaux on November 29, 1980 at St. John's Lutheran Church in Villard.
She is survived by her husband Ronald Robideaux, Villard; three children; Mike Lindeen, Melrose; Lisa (Daniel) McDonough, Belgrade; Tina (Mike) Lindeen, Melrose; four step-children: Kim (Dave) Massmann, Alexandria; Kae (Dean) Eblen, Villard; Kris (Mike) Massmann, Osakis; Ryan (Amy) Robideaux, North St. Paul; 14 grandchildren; mother Delores Olson, Starbuck; brothers: Alan "Beaner" (Mary) Olson, Alexandria; David (Roxy) Olson, Lowry; Danny (Lori) Olson, Starbuck; sisters: Jeannie (Bruce) Mattson, Chanhassen; Mary "Tootie" (Roger) Ward, Glenwood; aunts; uncles; nieces, nephews and many friends.
She was preceded in death by her father Albin Olson; granddaughter, Amber Robideaux; and grandson, Tye Massman.
Arrangements were with the Hoplin Funeral Home, Glenwood.

Arliss Jern Fadden, 53
Arliss Fadden was born on July 7, 1946, the daughter of Conrad and Georgianna (Swanson) Jern in Alexandria, Minnesota. She was baptized and confirmed at East Moe Lutheran Church. Arliss was raised in Alexandria and graduated from Jefferson High School. She furthered her education at Moorhead State University. She married Jeff Fadden in December, 1970. Arliss made her home in Tulsa, Oklahoma for a few years before moving to Minneapolis where she worked for Allied Van Lines. For the past 12 years she was employed for the U.S. Postal Service. She worked in Alexandria, St. Cloud and Parkers Prairie before moving to the Brainerd area where she has been employed for seven years.
Despite a struggle with Multiple Sclerosis for the past 33 years, Arliss was able to live a normal life and was a hard worker. She enjoyed bowling, auto races and country music.
Arliss died unexpectedly from the result of a car accident on February 5, 2000 at the age of 53. She is survived by three sisters, Barbara and husband DuWayne Nelson of Alexandria; Elizabeth (Betty), and husband Allan Clarke of New York Mills; Linda and husband Richard Anderson of Alexandria; sister-in-law Joyce Jern of Alexandria; several nieces and nephews; and great nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers Clinton in infancy and Clayton in 1990.
A funeral service was held on February 11, 2000 with Reverend Kathryn Rothman officiating. Music was provided by Diane Alveshere, organist and Lisa Henrichs, soloist.
Interment was in East Moe Lutheran Cemetery in rural Garfield. Pallbearers were Arliss' nieces and nephews: Dwayne Clarke, Anthony Clarke, Victoria Penner, Heidi Hanson, Jody Anderson, Mike Anderson, Julie Anderson, Jason Jern, Jennifer Drussel and Kimberly Jern.
Arrangements were with the Anderson Funeral Home, Alexandria.

Clifford W. Jacobson, 84
Clifford "Cliff" Jacobson was born November 24, 1915 in Hibbing, Minnesota to Hilma M. (Hogan) Jacobson and William A. Jacobson. He received his education in the Hibbing schools and in Moe Heights District No. 5, in rural Douglas County.
Clifford joined the peacetime Army and served in the horse cavalry until he had a service related injury. Upon discharge he went to work in the Seattle, Washington shipyards. In 1940 he was married to Barbara Ball of Great Falls, Montana. In 1942 he was drafted into the U.S. Army Infantry. He served in the Marianas Island Invasion of 1944 and was seriously injured in battle. After a lengthy convalescence he worked in construction in Great Falls, Montana.
In 1949, upon the death of his father, he came back to the family farm in Moe Township. In 1968 Clifford was diagnosed with glaucoma which resulted in blindness. However, he still led an active and productive life; not letting his handicaps slow him down. He suffered a stroke in 1988 which eventually placed him in several nursing homes; the last one being the Howard Lake, Minnesota, Good Samaritan Center. He passed away suddenly on February 4, 2000.
Clifford is survived by an aunt, Esther (Hogan) Holst of Chicago; brother: Lawrence and sister-in-law Elaine Jacobson of Santa Barbara, CA; sister: Ellen (Jacobson) Wood and brother-in-law Bill Wood of Mesa, Arizona; two nephews: Richard Jacobson and Travis Wood; three nieces: Sheila Currie, Patricia Ball, Lorelei Wood; numerous cousins; other relatives; and many friends. Clifford is preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Earl and Raymond Jacobson.
Clifford will be remembered by his family and friends for his cheerful personality and unfailing good humor in spite of his disabilities. A funeral service was held on Friday, February 11, 2000 at 2 p.m. at the Anderson Funeral Home Chapel in Alexandria, with Reverend Richard Bahe officiating. Interment was in the Kinkead Cemetery. Military honors were provided by the VFW Post 936.
In lieu of flowers, Clifford's family requests all donations be made to their local American Cancer Society chapter.
Arrangements were with the Anderson Funeral Home, Alexandria.

Cora Ovida Nelson, 91
Cora Ovida Sanders was born February 9, 1909 in Moe Township on a family farm near Brandon, Minnesota, the daughter of Olaus and Regina (Monson) Sanders. She was the ninth child born in a family of 12 children. Cora was baptized and confirmed at Chippewa Lutheran Free Church in Brandon. She attended District 84 country school through eighth grade. She was graduated from Brandon High School in 1928. Following school she continued to work on her parents farm and her neighbors farms.
In 1929 she met and began working for a widower, Gust Nelson, who had lost his wife to cancer. They were joined in marriage on July 14, 1931. Gust had four children from his first marriage. In addition to raising her new step children Cora and Gust raised four more children born to them.
The couple rented many different farms until the late 1930s when they moved to a farm near Lake Latoka in LaGrande Township. They purchased this farm two years later and held it until July of 1973 when it was sold to her son, Gerald. They moved into the city of Alexandria where Gust died in September of the same year. Cora then bought a house at 913 Kenwood in Alexandria. She lived there until becoming a resident at Crestview Manor in Evansville and later moving to Bethany Home in Alexandria.
Cora enjoyed making bread, lefse and rosettes at Christmas time. She took pleasure in reading, babysitting and doing embroidery work. She worked on many quilts, was a member of the Golden Glowers and Naomi Circle for many years. Cora's faith and church were always central in her life. In addition to raising Gust's children and their children together she also raised her son Gerald's two boys, Mark and Jerry. Cora's family was most important to her. She remembered everyone's birthday. Her wonderful memory, her strength of spirit and the love she gave as a mother were an inspiration to all of her family.
On February 12, 2000, Cora died at Bethany Home. She was preceded in death by her husband, Gust; two daughters: Diane Stoeckel and Dorothea Doerner; two sons: Norman and Lawrence Nelson; one grandson, John Lindstrom; six brothers: Oscar, Clarence, Vernon, Phillip and twin infant boys; four sisters: Esther Sanders, Ruth Bredeson and twin infant girls.
She is survived by three sons: Gordon and wife Shirley Nelson of Minneapolis; Gerald Nelson and friend Debra Wilson of Alexandria; Gary Nelson of Alexandria; one daughter: Margarite Lindstrom of Minneapolis; 20 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; many nieces and nephews and her sister and companion Verna Bjoralt of Alexandria.
A funeral service was held Tuesday, February 15, 2000 at Calvary Lutheran Church in Alexandria. Reverend Marvin Larson was the officiant. Music was provided by Becky Worley and Dwayne Soderholm. Interment followed in Evergreen Cemetery in Alexandria. Pallbearers were Cora's grandsons, Jerry Nelson, Mark Nelson, Rick Nelson, John Stoeckel and Mike Born. Honorary pallbearers included all of Cora's granddaughters.
Arrangements were with the Anderson Funeral Home, Alexandria.

Evangeline F. Wagner, 91
Evangeline F. Wagner, 91, formerly of St. Cloud died on Friday at the St. Benedict's Center. Funeral services were at 12:30 p.m. on Friday, February 11, 2000 at St. Benedict's Center Chapel in St. Cloud with Reverend Jeffrey Ethen officiating. Interment was in the Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery at Camp Ripley near Little Falls with full military honors.
Evangeline was born on May 26, 1908 in Brandon, Minnesota to John S. and Elizabeth (Kraemer) Wagner. She served in the United States Army Air Corps during WWII. She was employed as a dental assistant at the Veterans Administration Medical Center in St. Cloud from 1948 to 1970. She was a member of St. Paul's Parish, VFW Post 428 Auxiliary, Sauk Rapids VFW Post 6993 and NARFE.
Survivors include her sister, Agatha Smith of Gresham, OR and caregiver niece Millie Dombrovski of St. Cloud and also nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her three brothers and four sisters.
Arrangements were with the Daniel Funeral Home and Cremation Service of St. Cloud.

Fern Herness, 84
Fern Herness, 84, died Tuesday, February 8, 2000 at her farm home in rural Battle Lake with her daughters by her side.
Fern was born April 6, 1915 near Ashby and was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. She made her home with her aunt and uncle, Stella and Willie Ohren, and attended school in Ashby, District 3 and District 114.
In 1938 she and Lyman Herness were united in marriage and in 1943 purchased their farm in Clitherall Township where they raised their five children. She was a homemaker and helped with their dairy and farming operation.
She was a wonderful cook and baker and her family especially enjoyed her Christmas cookies and delicious pies. She was a very honest, sympathetic and hard working person. She enjoyed nature, loved animals and flower gardening. Reading was her favorite pastime. She will be sadly missed by her family.
She is survived by her daughters: Lavay Thompson of Battle Lake; Janet (Perry) Kugler of Willmar; Judy (David) Johnson of Battle Lake: grandson: Blaine Johnson of St. Cloud; and granddaughter; Lisa (Randy) Hohbein of Oak Grove, Kentucky. She was preceded in death by her husband Lyman on November 7, 1999; daughter Donna in 1994; son Jerry in 1971; son-in-law, Harley Thompson in 1988; her mother and stepfather, Annie (Pederson) Winter and Ed Winter and Stella and Willie Ohren.
Funeral service was held on Tuesday at 2 p.m. at the Bethel Lutheran Church in rural Ashby with Reverend Wes Moir officiating. Burial was in the Trefoldighed Lutheran Cemetery.
Arrangements were with the Glende-Johnson-Nelson & Nilson Funeral Home of Battle Lake.
