Luella Anderson, 74, formerly of Harmony
Luella Ileen Anderson, 74, died on Dec. 23, 1997, at Saint Marys Hospital in Rochester.
She was born Sept. 14, 1923, in Peterson, the daughter of Alfred and Olga (Thompson) Lee. She graduated from Peterson High School, and on June 19, 1942, was united in marriage to Herman Anderson. They lived in Peterson until 1950, when they moved to Harmony. In Harmony she worked for Ben Franklin, IGA and the greenhouse. Her husband died in 1970. She had lived in Winona with her son since 1978.
She is survived by her son, Douglas of Winona; a daughter, Cheryl (Michael) Kenyon of Forest City, Iowa; a grandson, Tracy Kenyon; and a sister, Beverly Markegard of Houston, Minn.
The funeral service was Sunday at Greenfield Lutheran Church, with the Revs. Jon and Ann Sorum officiating. Burial was in Greenfield Cemetery, Harmony.
Lindstrom Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Glenn Gordon Bamlet, 75, of Stewartville
Glenn Gordon Bamlet, 75, of Stewartville died Saturday, Sept. 6, 1997, of cancer at his home. He had been ill for three years.
Mr. Bamlet was born Nov. 26, 1921, in Hansel, Iowa. As a child, he moved with his family to rural Sargeant and attended rural schools. he married Ruth Schluesner on June 27, 1940, at Pleasant Valley Township in Mower County. They were later divorced. The couple farmed in rural Chatfield until 1978. He then worked as a heavy equipment operator for 12 years for Road Constructors of Rochester. Most recently he was employed by Larry Severson Construction of Rock Dell.
Surviving are three sons, Gordon of Rochester, Gerald of Nevis, Minn., and Larry of Stewartville; two daughters, Donna Buss of Belvidere, Ill., and Gail Schandorff of rural Stewartville; 19 grandchildren and 34 great-grandchildren; and three sisters, Alta Wendt of rural Grand Meadow, Lola Wendt and Florence Yeadon, both of rural Stewartville. He was preceded in death by one brother.
The funeral was Tuesday at First Baptist Church of Stewartville, the Rev. Dave Johnson officiating. Burial in Woodlawn Cemetery.

Brandi Jean Barth, 21, with ties to Preston
Brandi Jean Barth, 21, of Beloit, Wis., died as the result of an automobile accident on Sunday, Oct. 12, 1997, in Lutheran Hospital, LaCrosse.
She was born April 23, 1976, in Forest City, Iowa, the daughter of James Barry and T.J. Olson Barth. She was a graduate of Beloit Memorial High School, Class of 1994. She was employed by Reynolds Wheels.
Survivors include her mother, T.J.; brother Jeremy Barth at home; maternal grandparents, Jess and Esther Olson of Holmen, Wis., Marlys Drenth of Springfield, Ore., and Richard and Gerry Tetrault of Coralville, Iowa; paternal grandfather, Carl Barth of Preston; great-grandmother, Hazel Bernice Trom of Fargo, N.D.; godmother, Jenny Showers of DeForest, Wis.; godfather, Terry Barth of Preston; numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
She was preceded in death by her father, James Barry Barth; her maternal grandmother, Marie Olson and her paternal grandmother, Dorothy Barth.
Funeral services were held in the Daley-Murphy-Wisch and Associates Funeral Home, Beloit, with the Rev. Charles P. Larson of St. Paul Lutheran Church officiating. Graveside services were held Saturday in Greenwood Cemetery, Preston.
Daley-Murphy-Wisch and Associates were in charge of arrangments.

Irene Blexrud, 83, of Spring Grove
Irene Geneva Blexrud, 83, of Spring Grove, passed away Wednesday, Sept. 24, 1997, at home.
She was born Aug. 10, 1914, to Ole and Anna Maria Morken. She married George Blexrud on May 3, 1941. He preceded her in death in 1995.
She was a lifelong resident of Spring Grove and Wilmington and was a member of Wilmington Lutheran Church, where she was baptized, confirmed and married.
She graduated from Spring Grove High School in 1932 and later returned as head cook for many years until her retirement in 1979.
Blexrud was an active member of Wilmington Lutheran Church. She sang in the choir, taught Sunday school and helped plan and prepare countless dinners.
She had many interests including creating beautiful handwork, growing flowers, corresponding with family and friends, cooking, baking, caring for grandchildren, shoes, bright colors and her "kids" and co-workers at the school.
She was said to have been a source of constant smiles and laughter, loved to tell and laugh at stories, but most of all, she loved being with her husband and going to dinner and dancing with their friends.
Blexrud is survived by one son, Tom (Jan) of Spartanburg, S.C.; two grandchildren, Sarah Blexrud of Charlotte, N.C., and Adam Blexrud of Camarillo, Calif.; one great-grandson; a sister, Lulu Engene of Spring Grove; and nephews; nieces; relatives and many friends.
Memorial services were held September 27, 1997, at Wilmington Lutheran Cemetery. The Revs. Rolf T. Storlie and Elizabeth Stempinski officiated.

Frances Boen, 77, formerly of Harmony
Frances Alice Boen, formerly of Harmony, died Monday, Sept. 8, 1997.
She was born to Nels and Bernice Boen in Harmony on March 22, 1920.
She was baptized and confirmed in Greenfield Lutheran Church. She attended Harmony schools and graduated from Harmony High School.
While in Harmony, she worked for the Hoiness Creamery. She moved to Minneapolis in 1944 and worked as a payroll clerk for the Donaldson Company until her retirement.
She is survived by her sister, Thelma (Mrs. Leonard) Runge, of Harmony; her brother, Harry Boen, of Minneapolis; her nephew, Ronald (Harriet) Boen of Morem, Fla., and other nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by two sisters, Bernice and Marian Boen.
Boen's funeral was Friday, Sept. 12, 1997, at Abraham-Lindstrom Funeral Home in Harmony with the Rev. Jon Sorum officiating. Burial was in Greenfield Cemetery. Her family prefers memorials to the Greenfield Lutheran Church.
The Abraham-Lindstrom Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Millerd Bostrack, 86, of Whalan
Millerd H.J. Bostrack, 86, of Whalan, died Sunday, Oct. 5, 1997, at Good Shepherd Nursing Home in Rushford.
Bostrack was born Aug. 6, 1911, in Whalan. He grew up in the area, attended elementary school in Whalan and graduated from Lanesboro High School. On July 2, 1932, he married Anna Thompson of Peterson, and they made their home in Whalan.
As a young man, he helped his father deliver mail and then worked for the Minnesota Department of Transportation until becoming a salesman for Rochester Monument Company. He later was a salesman for Lewiston Monument Company until his retirement. His wife died April 23, 1993. He was a former scout master for Whalan Boy Scouts and was an active member of his church.
Survivors include three sons, Luther of Reno, Nev., Paul of Lanesboro and Philip of Winona; four daughters, Marilyn Simpson of Eden Valley, Geraldine Allen of Lake San Marcos, Calif., Marjule Boehnke of Burnsville and Carolyn LeBrun of St. Paul; 16 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren and a brother, Clifford, of Austin. A brother preceded him in death.
The funeral was last Thursday at First Baptist Church in Preston with the Rev. Frank Moore officiating. Burial was in the Crown Hill Cemetery in Preston.

Ruth Bremseth, 100, of Lanesboro
Ruth M. Bremseth, 100, of Lanesboro, died Thursday, Aug. 21, at Saint Marys Hospital in Rochester where she had been a patient two weeks. She had resided at the Harmony Nursing Home for 15 years.
Ruth was born Aug. 13, 1897, in rural Whalan, and grew up there. She married Thorvald Lindelien in February of 1917 in Lanesboro. He preceded her in death in August of 1963. In April of 1965 she married Engmar Bremseth in Lanesboro and he died in February of 1973. Bremseth lived in the rural Lanesboro area before moving into Lanesboro. Her husbands were farmers. She was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church, its ladies aid and the Lanesboro Senior Citizens.
Survivors include four daughters, Ruby Haugen of Stewartville, Gertrude Olstad of Lanesboro, LaVaugn Barenthin of Phoenix, Ariz., and Ila (Mrs. Rudy) Valenzuela of Azusa, Calif.; a stepson, Ronald Bremseth of Rushford; three stepdaughters, ElDoris Hanson of Lanesboro, Lorna (Mrs. Bob) Rasmussen of Rushford, and Wanda Hammer of Green Bay, Wis.; 21 grandchildren; 43 great-grandchildren; 41 great-great-grandchildren; a brother, Arthur Johnson of Rushford; and a sister, Alice Rexford of Preston. She was preceded in death by a daughter, four grandchildren, a brother and two sisters.
The funeral was Monday at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Lanesboro, with the Rev. Ann Sorum officiating. Burial was in the Lanesboro Cemetery. Johnson-Riley Funeral Home, Lanesboro, was in charge of arrangements.

Anna Brink, 91, of Canton
Anna L. Brink, 91, of Canton died Saturday, Oct. 18, 1997, at the Green Lea Manor Nursing Home in Mabel.
The former Anna Thompson was born on Dec. 16, 1905, in Lanesboro to Thomas and Ingeborg (Lee) Thompson. She graduated from the Lanesboro High School. On Nov. 3, 1935, she married Frank Brink in Preston. He died Dec. 3, 1969. The couple lived in Canton where they owned the Old Knotty Pine Cafe for 24 years until the late 1960s. She enjoyed reading, crocheting, and volunteering for SEMCAC. She was a member of the Canton-Scotland Presbyterian Church and the Presbyterian Women (PW).
She is survived by a daughter, Nelda (Mrs. Wesley) Steffen of Cape Girardeau, Mo; a grandson, Mark (Sarah) Steffen of St. Charles, Mo; two granddaughters, Robin (Mrs. Jay) Graven of Oxnard, Calif., and Nanette (Mrs. Tim) Hancock of St. Charles, Mo; four great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, one great-grandchild, three brothers and two sisters.
Funeral services were Wednesday, Oct. 22, at the Canton-Scotland Presbyterian Church in Canton with the Rev. Jim Scaife officiating. Burial was in the Elleota Cemetery of rural Canton.

N. Brinkman, 78, father of Lanesboro woman
Norman E. Brinkman, 78, of Lake City, died Sunday morning, Nov. 30, 1997, at Lake City Nursing Home after a lengthy illness.
He was born April 11, 1919, in Lake City. On Sept. 21, 1943, he married Rose Wallerich at St. Felix Catholic Church in Wabasha and they farmed in the Millville-Plainview area until 1964. He then worked at DiAcro in Lake City and after his retirement in 1986, was a seasonal employee at Jewell Nursery in Lake City until 1994. His wife worked in housekeeping at Lake City Hospital. Mr. Brinkman was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church. He enjoyed working with plastic canvas, woodworking, playing cards and polka dancing.
Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Anna Rose (Mrs. Carroll) Gilbertson of rural Lanesboro; two sons, William of Mechanicsburg, Pa., and David of Yankton, S.D.; seven grandchildren; and a great-granddaughter. A sister and a brother preceded him in death.
The funeral was Wednesday at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Lake City with the Rev. James McCauley officiating. Burial was in Lakewood Cemetery in Lake City.

Helen Mary Brown, 81, once of Spring Valley
Helen Mary Brown, 81, of Brownsville, Texas, formerly of Spring Valley, died Tuesday, Dec. 2, 1997, at her home.
Helen Mary King was born Feb. 29, 1916, in Hamilton, Minn. She married Melvin Brown in April 1962 at the Racine Methodist Church. She was a homemaker. She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Devils Lake, N.D., and the Odd Fellows, VFW and Elks' auxiliaries.
Survivors include her husband; three sons, Gary Brown of Houston, Texas, and Gene and Terry Brown, both of Grand Forks, N.D.; two daughters, Char Halle of Phoenix, Ariz., and Annette Nelson of Kalispell, Mont.; 16 grandchildren; a great-granddaughter; three brothers, Roy, Dave and Maynard King; and a sister, Hazel Bossart of Ostrander. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Henry Klubertanz, a son and five brothers.
The funeral was Saturday at Hindt-Hutchins Funeral Home in Spring Valley with the Rev. James Ross officiating. Burial in St. Ignatius Catholic Cemetery in Spring Valley.

Roy Brown, 104, of Mabel
Roy E. Brown, 104, of Mabel died Wednesday, Oct. 15, 1997, at the Green Lea Manor Nursing Home in Mabel.
He was born March 16, 1893, in Fillmore County to Riley and Emma (Munson) Brown. On July 1, 1915, he married Rose Flattum in Highland. She later died on April 16, 1988. He worked as a farm laborer and in a tie camp before farming for himself in the Burr Oak area.
Brown is survived by a son, LuVerne (Shirley) of Waterloo, Iowa; four daughters, Ethel (Mrs. Frank) Reed of Burr Oak, Doris Volsin of Buena Park, Calif., and Norma Szymanski and Vivian Norden both of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; sixteen grandchildren; several great and great-great grandchildren; and a great-great-great grandchild. He was preceded in death by his wife Rose; two grandchildren, four brothers and two sisters.
Funeral services were Monday, Oct. 20, 1997, at the Burr Oak Lutheran Church with the Reverend Hans Floan officiating. Burial was in the Burr Oak Cemetery.

Mildred Budde, 81, of Mabel
Mildred Budde, 81, of Mabel, died Tuesday, Nov. 4, 1997, at Green Lea Manor Nursing Home in Mabel.
She was born March 24, 1916, in Haakon County, S.D., to Siebert and Ida (Watkins) Iverson. She attended and graduated from Mabel High School in 1934. On Dec. 28, 1941, she married Marvin John Budde in Preston. He died Jan. 1, 1972. She was a telephone operator for the Mabel Telephone Company for more than 25 years. She was a member of Mabel United Methodist Church and the American Legion Auxiliary.
Survivors include two sons, Richard and his wife Vonda of Mabel and Duane and his wife Mary of Columbia Heights, Minn.; four grandchildren, Susan Budde and Diana (Mrs. Adam) Duckwell both of the Twin Cities, and Audra Manning and Emily Budde, both of Mabel; and one great-grandchild, Mackenzie Manning of Mabel. She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Irvin Iverson.
The funeral was held Sunday at the Mabel United Methodist Church with the Rev. Leonard Wildes officiating. Burial was in the Newburg Cemetery.

Wanda Lou Carrier, 68, formerly of Mabel
Wanda Lou Carrier, 68, of Houston, died Tuesday, Oct. 7, 1997, at Lutheran Hospital in LaCrosse.
Carrier was born Oct. 17, 1928, in Spring Grove to Bruce and Delia (Bakken) Williams. She married Charlie Carrier on October 18, 1946, in Iowa.
Carrier graduated from Mabel High School in 1946, and worked for 17 years as a nursing assistant at Valley View Nursing Home until her retirement on April 1, 1994. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church and was an active member of the Presbyterian Women's Group. She also served many years on the American Legion Auxiliary and the American Red Cross Bloodmobile. She was an avid doll collector.
She is survived by her husband, Charlie; daughters Cynthia (Dean) Lauritzen of Jesup, Iowa, Barb (Jerry) Laumb of Rushford and Jill (Kurt) Olloff of Houston; sons Bruce (Deborah) Carrier of Presho, S.D., Marlin (Phyllis) Carrier of Virginia, Minn., Ken (Sue) Carrier of Houston, Jeff (Peggy) Carrier of Adrian, Minn., Ron (Kathy) Carrier of Rushford, Van (Chris) Carrier of Clear Lake, Iowa, and Todd (Lilly) Carrier of Houston; 37 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Dawn (Ron) Stone of Spring Grove and Renae Gustafson of Stewartville; five brothers, Fred Williams of Mabel, Harris (Geraldine) Williams of Spring Valley, Danny (Lynette) Williams of Mabel, Rollis (Bev) Williams of Mabel and Ray (Perry) Williams of Zumbrota; one brother-in-law, Donald (Jean) Carlson of Houston. She was preceded in death by her parents, Bruce and Delia Williams, a sister, Nancy Mensink, a brother, Jerry Williams, and a grandson, Charles Lauritzen.
Funeral services were held Friday at First Presbyterian Church in Houston, with Pastor Howard Mace officiating.

Patricia Clark, 70, formerly of Harmony
Patricia Anne (Riseland) Clark, died Aug. 23, 1997, in Phoenix, Ariz., of cancer at the age of 70.
After graduating from Harmony High School in 1945, she moved to California where she worked and later married Eugene Clark. After her husband retired from the Los Angeles Police Department, they moved to Phoenix to live closer to their grown family.
She is survived by her husband, Eugene; daughter, Janan; son, James; five grandchildren; two sisters, Beryl Kelley of Kansas City, Mo., and Kathryn Heinz of Anaheim, Calif.; twelve nieces and nephews; ten grand nieces and grand nephews.
She leaves many relatives and friends who enjoyed her friendship and compassion throughout her life.

George L. Cleveland, 84, of Spring Valley
George L. Cleveland, 84, of Spring Valley, died Wednesday morning, Oct. 1, 1997, at the Spring Valley Care Center following a brief illness.
He was born Feb. 23, 1913, in Cresco, the son of Ira and Margaret (Dalton) Cleveland. He attended public school in Cresco and in 1932 he was in a CCC camp in Guthrie Center, Iowa. He married Edith Betts on June 23, 1936, at Osage, Iowa, and the couple made their home in various locations, moving to Spring Valley in 1942. He had worked for National By-Products in Spring Valley and for 25 years was employed by Waters Conley-Telex in Rochester.
He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Spring Valley.
He is survived by his wife; four sons, George LeRoy of Virginia Beach, Vir., Herbert of Creswell, Ore., and Gerald and Kenneth, both of Spring Valley; two daughters, Patricia Geotsch of Rock Springs, Wyo., and Nelda Rudlong of LeRoy; 17 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one son, James; one daughter, Evelyn; three granddaughters; four sisters; and three brothers.
The funeral was Friday at the First Baptist Church in Spring Valley with the Rev. Scott Nupson officiating. Burial was in the Sumner (Millet) Cemetery in rural Spring Valley.

Elsa B. Christian, 87, area native
Elsa B. (Nagel) Christian, 87, of Phoenix, Ariz., formerly of Spring Valley, a retired city of Phoenix legal administrator, died Saturday, Oct. 4, 1997.
She was born in Fillmore County. After graduating from high school she was a legal secretary for law offices in Spring Valley and Minneapolis, and worked for the federal government in Washington, D. C. She then was the office manager and bookkeeper for the Spring Valley Ford dealer before moving to Phoenix.
Survivors include nieces Sherrill (Rehorst) Lee of Phoenix; Marian (Rehorst) Anderson of Sedalia, Mo.; Connie (Cummings) Hahn of Racine; and Vicki (Nagel) Anderson of Brooklyn Park, Minn.; and nephews Don Rehorst of Phoenix; James Tebay of Baltimore, Md.; Tom Nagel of Litchfield, Minn.; Terry Nagel of Boise, Idaho; and Richard Tebay of Hillsborough, Calif.
She was preceded in death by her daughter, Joey Christian; one brother, Dale Nagel, and four sisters: Esther Tebay, Olive Rehorst, Muriel Cummings, and Emilee Nagel.
Services were held on Wednesday at the Chapel of the Chimes and burial at Resthaven Park Cemetery, Glendale, Ariz.

Clement Copolillo, 86, father of SV woman
Clement Copolillo, 86, of Phoenix, Ariz., died Dec. 11, 1997, at Paradise Valley Hospital in Phoenix where he was a patient for one month.
Copolillo is the father of Rita Utley and grandfather of Dave and Erik Paulsen and Christina Frank.
He is survived by his wife, Sarah; two sons, John of Highland Calif., and Clem of Gilbert, Ariz.; and daughter, Rita of Spring Valley; seven grandchildren and two great-granddaughters; three brothers, Emmett of Florida, Albert of Chicago and Gene of Phoenix.
Funeral arrangements were held in Phoenix at St. Joseph's Catholic Church and burial was in Gilbert.

Otto Max Daleske, brother of SV woman
Otto Max Daleske, 91, of The Cedars of Austin, a retired blacksmith, died Monday night, Sept. 15, 1997, at his home.
Born March 16, 1906, in Plotzig, Pommern, Germany, he studied the blacksmithing trade from 1922 to 1925 and emigrated to the United States on Aug. 26, 1926. He worked for farmers in the Spring Valley and Fairmont, Minn., areas for three years, was employed by Fairmont Railway Motors from 1929 to 1931 and then worked for blacksmiths in Dunnell, Ceylon and Blue Earth, Minn., until 1935. From 1935 until his retirement in 1981 he owned his own blacksmith business in Ceylon. On May 29, 1931, he married Edna Sturm. She died Jan. 19, 1980. He married Elsie Daleske of Austin on July 25, 1981, and she survives. Mr. Daleske was a member of St. Peter Lutheran Church in Ceylon until joining St. John's Lutheran Church in Elkton in 1981. He served several terms on the Ceylon School Board and was a member of the Ceylon volunteer fire department.
In addition to his wife, survivors include a son, Karl of Ceylon; two daughters, Mary (Mrs. James) Klopp of Glencoe, Minn., and Lucille (Mrs. Martin) Rettig of Alexandria, Minn.; two stepsons, Herbert Daleske of Hayfield and Robert Daleske of Somonauk, Ill.; nine grandchildren; six stepgrandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; two stepgreat-grandchildren; and a sister, Frieda Mailand of Spring Valley. He was preceded in death by a son, two brothers and four sisters.
The funeral was Friday at St. John's Lutheran Church in rural Elkton with the Rev. Diane Joseph officiating. Burial was Friday in Lake Belt Township Cemetery in Ceylon, Minn.

C. Ditonno, 87, mother of Harmony woman
Clara Josephine Ditonno, 87, of St. Paul, died Sept. 23, 1997, at the Lutheran Home in Caledonia, where she had been a resident for a short time.
She was born Sept. 28, 1909, in Selma Township, Cottonwood County, to Christian and Irene (Jones) Rasmussen. She graduated from the Comfrey Consolidated School in 1929 and moved to Minneapolis to attend nursing school at the University of Minnesota. In 1937, she married Michael Frank Ditonno in St. Paul, where the couple made their home. Their granddaughter, Elizabeth, currently lives at that address.
Michael died in February of 1944, when Clara was pregnant with their second daughter, Mary Jane, and he was buried at Ft. Snelling. She was a long time member, with her daughters, of Ascension Lutheran Church in St. Paul, University of Minnesota Women's Club, and enjoyed spending time with her family, reading, knitting and gardening, favoring flowers such as phlox, peonies, roses and lilacs.
Clara is survived by her daughters; Irene and husband, Keith Hanson, of Hopkins and Mary Jane and husband, Allan Dahl, of Harmony; grandchildren, Elizabeth Jane, Mark John and Danielle Angela Grace Hanson, Mattine Jane and Justin Allan Dahl; brothers, Herman Rasmussen of Elk River and Russell Rasmussen of Mountain Lake; and a sister, Doretta (Rasmussen) Perretten of Long Prairie. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband.
Funeral services were held Saturday, Aug. 27, at First Congregational United Church of Christ in Comfrey, Minn., with the Reverend Jeff Minor officiating. Interment was in Jeffers City Cemetery, Jeffers, Minn.
Casketbearers were Allan Dahl, Keith Hanson, Danielle Hanson, Mattine Dahl, Justin Dahl, Mark Hanson, and Elizabeth Hanson.
Honorary casketbearers were Irene Hanson and Mary Jane Dahl.
Sturm Funeral Home in Comfrey, Minn., was in charge of arrangements.

John W. Ebner, 83, father of local man
John W. Ebner, 83, of Rochester, a retired Rochester school district employee, died of complications of a stroke Tuesday, Nov. 11, 1997, at Saint Marys Hospital.
He was born April 25, 1914, in Witoka, Minn., and grew up in the Witoka area. On Oct. 9, 1940, he married Alice Pehler at St. Aloysius Church in Elba and they farmed before moving to Rochester in 1959. After his retirement from the school system in 1982, he helped his son farm in the Spring Valley area. His wife worked for Northwestern Bell before her retirement. Mr. Ebner enjoyed gardening and growing roses.
Survivors include his wife; two sons, Kenneth J. of Spring Valley and Roger L. of Lanesboro; two daughters, Sandie Callaway of Rochester and Sheryal (Mrs. James) Rubin of Grand Meadow; seven grandchildren; a brother; Melvin of Plainview; and three sisters, Lorene Speltz and Leona (Mrs. Edwin) Hayertz, both of Rochester, and Marion Truax of Norco, Calif. A sister preceded him in death.
A Mass of Christian burial was offered Friday at St. Pius X Catholic Church with the Rev. Michael Cronin officiating. Burial was in St. Bridget's Cemetery.

Clement L. Ellis, 87, formerly of Mabel
Clement L. Ellis, 87, of La Crosse, Wis., died Wednesday,
Sept. 17, 1997 at the La Crescent Health Care Center.
He was born September 5, 1910 in Troy to Joseph A. and C. Nellie (Hennessey) Ellis. Clement graduated from Chatfield High School in 1927 and also from St. Mary's College in Winona in 1931. He received his Master's Degree in school administration from the University of Minnesota in 1955. He later furthered his education in counseling at Winona State University. Clement worked as a teacher, principal and counselor for the Mabel-Canton schools for 21 years, retiring in 1976.
Clement is survived by six daughters; Rose (Michael) Haugerud of Lilburn, Ga., M. Patricia (Dave) Nichols of Friday Harbor, Wash., Sharon (Al) Barth of Rochester, Minn., Julie (Vince) McKenna of Paris, Texas, Barb (Tom) Sheehan and Susan (John) Greening both of La Crescent; two sons, Robert (Eunice) Ellis of La Crescent and Richard J. Ellis of New Orleans; 24 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Mary Ellis; a granddaughter, Christine Billmyer and a sister, Maxine Foster.
During his retirment years he enjoyed traveling, especially his visits to Ireland. He was also an avid chess player. Clement was a 50-year member of Gittens-Leidel American Legion Post #595 in La Crescent and was also a member of the Knights of Columbus.
A Mass of Christian Burial was held Saturday, Sept. 20, at the Church of the Crucifixion in La Crescent with Rev. Donald Grubisch officiating. Graveside services with military honors were held on Saturday at St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery in Chatfield. The Schumacher-Kish Funeral Home of La Crescent was in charge of the arrangements.

Dr. Garth Englund, 69, formerly of Mabel
Dr. Garth W. Englund, 69, of Fort Collins, Colo., died Saturday, Nov. 29, 1997, at home.
Dr. Englund was born Oct. 11, 1928, in Brainerd, Minn., to Emil Englund and Marie Petersen Englund.
He earned a bachelor's degree in 1953 and his medical degree from the University of Minnesota in 1955, graduating magna cum laude.
He married Mary Maher. He was a private practice doctor in Mabel, Minn., before pursuing a residency in pathology at the University of Colorado. He practiced pathology at Rose Medical Center, was director of laboratories at Valley View Hospital, director of the Poudre Valley Blood Bank from 1979 to 1994 and director of laboratories at Poudre Valley Hospital from 1985 to 1991. He had been semi-retired since 1994.
He was a member of the College of American Pathologists, the Colorado State Society of Clinical Pathologists, the American Association of Blood Banks, the Colorado State Medical Society and the Larimer County Medical Society. He enjoyed snowshoeing, biking, hiking, cross-country skiing and traveling.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Maher Englund of Fort Collins; one son, Garth Englund, Jr., of Littleton; two daughters, Lisa Marie Englund of Loveland and Nancy Kay Englund of Versailles, Ky., two stepsons, William D. Veach of Utah and Norman Veach of Longmont; one stepdaughter, Kathy Crowder; one brother, Keith Englund of Minnesota and five grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, stepmother and sister.
A memorial service was on Wednesday at Allnutt Funeral Service/Drake Road Chapel. Cremation has been conducted.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Garth Englund Scholarship Fund in care of the Poudre Valley Foundation or to Hospice of Larimer County in care of Allnutt Funeral Service/Drake Road Chapel.

Victor H. Evers, 63. formerly of Wykoff
Victor H. Evers, 63, of Lake Isabella, Calif., died July 13, 1997, at Kern Valley Hospital following a short illness.
He was born Sept.. 25, 1933, in rural Wykoff. He was baptized and confirmed at St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church there and attended school in the Wykoff area. He moved to California as a young man. He was a retired U. S. Steel employee in Long Beach, Calif. He married Eleanor Roeloffs and they were later divorced. He then married Pauline Boltwright. She died in March of this year.
He is survived by a daughter, Rebecca (Mrs. Greg) Shoemaker of Shaw AFB, S>C.; four sons; two granddaughters; four sisters, Dorothy (Mrs. Elton) LeFevere of Spring Valley, Anita Kirtz of Austin, Audrey Sands of St. Marie, Mont., and Phyllis Theiss of Rochester; and a brother, Carroll of rural Wykoff. He was preceded in death by a sister and two brothers.
There was a memorial service July 21 at Kern Valley Cemetery. Thauwald Funeral Home made local arrangements.

Veranese 'Dee' Farnsworth, 71, of Austin
Veranese "Dee" Farnsworth, 71, of Austin, died Sunday, Nov. 23, 1997, at her home.
Veranese Miland was born in Bennington Township, Mower County, on July 14, 1926. She graduated from Grand Meadow High School in Grand Meadow in 1944. She moved to Austin after high school and worked as a clerk at Kresge's in Austin.
She married William Farnsworth on Jan. 7, 1950, and the couple later divorced.
Mrs. Farnsworth worked at Tommy's Supper Club in Austin as a cook. She also offered daycare for children in her home for many years.
She enjoyed embroidering, painting dishtowels and baking.
Survivors include two daughters, Cheryl (Mrs. Dallas) Vosburgh of Onalaska, Wis., and Shelley (Mrs. Doug) Oldenburg of Austin; a son, Darwin of Montrose, Minn.; eight grandchildren; two brothers, Dolvin Miland of Goodell, Iowa, and Larry Miland of Austin; and two sisters, Adeline (Mrs. Paul) Aulwes of Watertown, Minn., and Gwenlyn (Mrs. Emmeth) Hovden of Spring Valley. She was preceded in death by an infant brother.
Friends may call from 6 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Worlein Funeral Home in Austin and one hour before the service Wednesday at the church.
The funeral will be today (Wednesday) at 1:30 p.m. at Fellowship United Methodist Church, Austin, with the Rev. George Toschak officiating.

Doretta 'Pat' Finney, 94, of Canton
Doretta "Pat" Finney, 94, of Canton, died Thursday, Dec. 4, 1997, at the Harmony Nursing Home in Harmony.
She was born March 1, 1903, in Superior, Wis., to John and Martha Donahue. She attended school in Hibbing and college in Chicago. On Jan. 31, 1934, she married Lester Finney in Canton. He died Oct. 4, l989. The couple farmed in the Canton area and for 20 years they ran Finney Hardware and Finney Tavern and Restaurant in Canton.
She is survived by nieces and nephews and a sister-in-law, Helen Finney of Harmony. She was preceded in death by three sisters and a brother.
The memorial service was Monday at Mengis Funeral Home in Mabel with the Rev. Steven Peterson officiating. Burial was in the Lenora Cemetery.
Mengis Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Orrin Dean Fishbaugher, 68, of Harmony
Orrin Dean Fishbaugher, 68, of LaCrosse, formerly of Harmony and rural Preston, died Sunday, Aug. 24, 1997, at Gundersen-Lutheran Medical Center.
Born Jan. 6, 1929, in rural Preston, he farmed with his family after graduation from high school and later received a degree in business from Chicago Technical University. In 1950 he joined the Army and served in the Korean War. After his discharge in 1953 he purchased Orrin's Mobil Oil Service in Harmony and Harmony Trailer Court. In 1963 he moved to LaCrosse and worked at the Allis Chalmers plant until it closed and then was employed at Paper Calmenson & Co. in LaCrosse until his retirement. During retirement he was a bartender. Mr. Fishbaugher enjoyed working on cars, lawn and garden care, football and stock car races.
Survivors include three daughters, Diane (Mrs. Ray) Richason of Eagan, Minn., Gina (Mrs. Lindsey) Wekseth of Lodi, Wis., and Joanne Anderson of LaCrosse; two sons, Michael Dean Fishbaugher of Rochester and Jerry Dean Fishbaugher of Holmen, Wis.; seven grandchildren; a sister, Phyllis (Mrs. Gene) Hageman of Canton; four brothers, Stanley of rural Harmony, Clayton of Preston, Robert of Spring Valley and Harvey of Harmony; and special friend, Rhonda Weaver of LaCrosse. A brother preceded him in death.
The funeral was Saturday at Lindstrom Funeral Home in Harmony with Chaplain William Reece of Gundersen-Lutheran Medical Center in LaCrosse officiating. Burial was in Prairie Queen Cemetery in rural Preston with military graveside rites by the Gustav Berg American Legion Post of Harmony.

Thomas Fitzgerald, 71, formerly of area
Thomas Richard Fitzgerald, 71, of Rochester, died Wednesday, Dec. 10, 1997, at North Memorial Hospital in Minneapolis of complications of a stroke suffered Sunday.
He was born May 24, 1926, in Minneapolis and grew up in the Preston-Harmony area. From 1950 to 1952 he served in the Army and was stationed in Albuquerque, N.M., and had resided in Rochester since his discharge. On Sept. 21, 1950, he married Catherine A. O'Connell at St. Bridget's Church in Simpson. She died Jan. 23, 1974. Mr. Fitzgerald was a mechanic and owned Tom's Auto Repair until his retirement in the mid 1980's.
Survivors include four daughters, Colleen Spencer of Milaca, Minn., Sharie Sorenson of Minneapolis, Rosemary Kantor of Columbia Heights, Minn., and Mary Najar of Seattle; three sons, Tom and Glenn, both of Rochester, and Larry of South Haven, Minn.; 18 grandchildren; three great-grand-children; a brother, Bill of Rochester; and a sister, Mary Chapman, of Rochester. A son preceded him in death.
A Mass of Christian burial was Saturday at St. Francis Catholic Church with the Rev. Thomas Ploof officiating. Burial was in St. Bridget's Cemetery in Simpson.
