Evelyn M. Anderson
Feb. 8, 1913 - Feb. 14, 2000
LITCHFIELD - Evelyn M. Anderson, 87, of Litchfield, died Monday at Cosmos Health Care Center in Cosmos.
Her funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Church of St. Philip in Litchfield with the Rev. Peter Nosbush officiating. Burial will be in Ripley Cemetery in Litchfield.
Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. today, with a 6:30 p.m. VFW Auxiliary service and a 7 p.m. prayer service, at Johnson-Hagglund Funeral Home in Litchfield.
She was born Feb. 8, 1913, in Litchfield, to William and Elizabeth (Weber) Miller. She attended Litchfield school through the 11th grade. She was employed as a weaver by Litchfield Woolen Mills for 45 years, retiring in 1975.
On Jan. 23, 1954, she married Raymond T. Anderson in Litchfield, where they lived.
She is survived by her daughter Carol (and Doug) Matteson of Watkins; two grandsons; stepdaughters Mary Crenshaw of Minneapolis, Jane Mealy of St. Paul, Betty (and Jim) Brown of Bellevue, Wash.; stepgrandchildren; stepgreat-grandchildren; brother Leo Miller of Litchfield; and other relatives.
She was preceded in death by her husband on April 25, 1988, her parents, one granddaughter, one sister, four brothers and stepson, Theodore Anderson.

Wylie Bogie
March 27, 1929 - Feb. 8, 2000
GLENWOOD - Wylie Bogie, 70, of Glenwood, died Feb. 8 at Bethesda Rehabilitation Hospital in St. Paul.
His memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Hoplin Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Eileen Mehl officiating. Burial will be in the spring in Barsness Lutheran Cemetery.
He was born March 27, 1929, in Glenwood, to Charles and Ione (Sonstagard) Bogie. He attended Glenwood area schools. He served in the U.S. Navy and U.S. Army. He was a successful boxer in the service while serving as an aerial photographer and with military intelligence during the Korean Conflict. He attended St. Cloud State College and was employed as an engineer by Soo Line Railroad.
On Feb. 13, 1954, he married Arlene Jenum.
He was a member of Barsness Lutheran Church in rural Glenwood, and Minnewaska Golf Club.
He is survived by his wife; daughter Jody (and Alan) Phillips of Starbuck; son James of Starbuck; two grandchildren; sister Violet (and Patrick) Hurley of Little Canada; brother Gary (and Barbara) Bogie of Terre Haute, Ind.; and other relatives.
He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers and daughter-in-law Kathy.

Marcella Hagen
Sept. 18, 1921 - Feb. 14, 2000
GLENWOOD - Marcella Hagen, 78, of Glenwood, died Monday at Glacial Ridge Hospital in Glenwood.
Her funeral will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Glenwood Lutheran Church with the Rev. Arthur Montgomery officiating. Burial will be in Rolling Forks Cemetery.
Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at Hoplin Funeral Chapel.
She was born Sept. 18, 1921, in Melrose, to J.W. and Olive (Albert) McDougle. She moved to Glenwood in the fall of 1960. She was employed by HiView Motel, and as a cook by E.N. Nordgaard Elementary School and Lakeview Health Center until retirement.
She was an active foster grandparent, member of church circle, senior citizen volunteer and a quilter for the Veterans Hospital.
She is survived by her daughters Joan Holmes of Minnetonka, Helen (and Charles) Vinge of Minnetonka; son John (and Sharon) of Las Vegas, Nev.; 11 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; sisters Beatrice Van Vickle of St. Cloud, Katherine Anderson of Staples, Mary Brandanger of Minneapolis, Delores Koob of Glenwood, Delaine (and Harold) Erickson of Sauk Rapids, Myrtle (and Stan) Jergenson of Monticello, Mabel DeKok of Arkansas; brothers James (and Evelyn) McDougle of Glenwood, John (and Terry) McDougle of Indiana; and other relatives.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husbands Oliver Hagen and George Hagen, son Keith, son-in-law Joseph Holmes, two brothers and one sister.

Beatrice O'Halloran
July 28, 1911 - Feb. 14, 2000
OLIVIA - Beatrice O'Halloran, 88, of Olivia, died Monday at Olivia Healthcare Center.
Her memorial service will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Aloysius Catholic Church in Olivia with the Rev. Phil Schotzko officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Visitation will be 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday, with a 4:45 p.m. rosary, at Dirks-Blem Funeral Home in Olivia, and one hour prior to services at the church.
She was born July 28, 1911, in Hector, to William and Agnes (Moran) O'Halloran. She attended Olivia Teacher Training, received a two-year certificate from St. Cloud Teachers College in 1933, and attended Mankato Teachers College in 1939.
She taught in Minnesota rural schools from 1930 to 1932, and 1933 to 1941. She was Renville County assistant superintendent of schools from 1941 to 1944. She was employed by Consolidated Millinery Company of Benton Harbor, Mich., from 1944 to 1952, and as a ready-to-wear buyer for Enders Company from 1952 to 1966. She was employed by Consolidated Millinery as millinery and accessories buyer at L.S. Ayers & Company, Fort Wayne and South Bend, Ind., from 1966 to 1976.
She retired to Olivia, where she was a member of St. Aloysius parish.
She is survived by her sisters, Sr. Sheila O'Halloran, CSJ, of St. Paul, Mary Lou (and John) Resch of Chicago; and other relatives.
She was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers and two sisters.

Bill Van Ort
April 1, 1930 - Feb. 16, 2000
WILLMAR - William "Bill" Martin Van Ort, 69, of Willmar, died Wednesday at the St. Cloud Hospital.
His memorial service will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at the United Methodist Church in Willmar. Burial will be at a later date. Arrangements are with Harvey Anderson Funeral Home.
He was born April 1, 1930, in Willmar, to John and Mary (Williams) Van Ort. He attended Willmar schools. He served in the U.S. Air Force in 1950, as a military policeman stationed in Edwards Air Force Base in California and in Iceland.
He married Alice Zimmerman on Jan. 5, 1954, in Willmar. They lived in the Willmar area. He worked for the Willmar Police Department from 1960 to 1968. The couple started Van Ort Van and Storage in 1968 and retired from it in 1990.
He was a member of the Willmar American Legion.
He is survived by his wife; brothers Burton (and Ella) Van Ort of New London and Paul (and Arloween) Van Ort of Litchfield; sister Geneva (and Bill) Arnold of Rochester; and other relatives.
He was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers.

Ada A. Ardoff
March 29, 1915 - Feb. 15, 2000
NEW LONDON - Ada Amanda Ardoff, 84, of New London, died Tuesday at Rice Memorial Hospital in Willmar.
Her funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Hope Presbyterian Church in Spicer with the Rev. Terry Sletto and the Rev. Jack Anderson officiating. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery in New London.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at Johnson Funeral Home in New London, and for one hour prior to the services at the church.
She was born March 29, 1915, in Regal, to William and Jessie (Barber) King. She attended country school in Regal.
She married Baldwin Ardoff on June 24, 1930. They lived in New London.
She was a member of Hope Presbyterian Church.
She is survived by six daughters: Patty Hagedorn of Willmar, Judy (and Wayne) Fischer of New London, Sharyle (and Jim) Larson of Orifino, Idaho, Sharon (and Bryon) Walls of Darwin, Beverly (and Larry) Grob of South Haven, Debra (and Wayne) Sjoberg of New London; one son, Michael (and Barb) Ardoff of New London; one daughter-in-law, Hulene Ardoff of Amarillo, Texas; 23 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; sisters Rhoda Beecroft of New London and Maude (and Don) Nelson of Michigan; and brother Albert (and Irene) King of Massachusetts.
She was preceded in death by her husband, son Roger; one granddaughter; two great-grandsons; two brothers and four sister, one in infancy.

David V. Dodds
April 16, 1934 - Feb. 15, 2000
PAYNESVILLE - David Veryl Dodds, 65, of Paynesville, died Tuesday at the Paynesville Area Hospital.
His memorial service will be at 11 a.m. March 4 at St. Stephens Episcopal Church in Paynesville with the Rev. Patricia Gillespie officiating. Burial will be in the Paynesville Cemetery, with military honors by the Paynesville American Legion Post.
There will be no visitation. Arrangements are with the Johnson Funeral Home in Paynesville.
He was born April 16, 1934, in Minneapolis, to Grover and Agnes (VanderLinden) Dodds. He graduated from Minneapolis Washburn High School in 1952.
He served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War and then transferred to the Air National Guard, retiring as an Air Force master sergeant in 1988.
He was the first chief of the Bloomington Rescue Squad, which he helped start, retiring in 1988 from the Bloomington Fire Department. He worked as the EMS coordinator of Hennepin Technical College, retiring in 1995.
He married Doris Baxter on March 4, 1989, in Minnetonka. They moved in 1991 to Paynesville, where he taught defensive driving for MnDOT for several years.
He was a member of St. Stephens Episcopal Church, where he was the current senior warden. He was a member of the Paynesville American Legion, where he was recently the gambling manager. He also was the president of the Paynesville Lions Club.
He is survived by his wife; daughters Denise (and Michael) Dow of Farmington, Rosemarie Dodds of St. Petersburg, Fla.; son Grover Dodds of Minneapolis; stepdaughter Ann (and Rod) Bemis of St. Cloud; stepson, John Scheller of Anoka; seven grandchildren; sister Darlene (and Austin) Jorgenson of Rochester and other relatives.
He was preceded in death by his parents.

Marie K. Vosika
July 3, 1920 - Feb. 15, 2000
MESA, Ariz. - Marie Kathryn Vosika, 79, of Mesa, Ariz., formerly of Willmar, died Tuesday in Mesa.
Her memorial service will be at 9:30 a.m. today at Queen of Peace Catholic Church in Mesa. Burial will be at a later date in St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery in Willmar.
Arrangements are with Bunker's University Chapel of Mesa (480-830-4105).
She was born July 3, 1920, in Arlington, to Walter and Kathryn Comnick. She married Ben Vosika and they lived in Willmar. She has lived in Mesa for 16 years.
She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Willmar, and active in Altar Rosary Society.
She is survived by her sons Michael (and Diane) Vosika of Willmar, Larry (and Terry) Vosika of Detroit Lakes, John and Jodi Vosika of Gilbert, Ariz; daughters Gloria (and Roger) Johnson of Mesa, Dianne (and Donny) Swenson of Hastings, Kathy (and Rick) Johnson of Jackson; 17 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband in 1983.

Silas 'Edgar' Thompson
Dec. 7, 1908 - Feb. 16, 2000
STARBUCK - Silas "Edgar" Thompson, 92, of Starbuck, died Wednesday at Minnewaska District Hospital in Starbuck.
His funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at The Commons-Minnewaska Lutheran Home in Starbuck with the Rev. Tenner Thompson and the Rev. Eileen Mehl officiating.
Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the Commons. Arrangements are with Hoplin Funeral Home.
He was born Dec. 7, 1908, in Barsness Township, Pope County, to Hans and Videa Josephine (Milsten) Thompson. He attended country school and worked on the farm.
He was a member of Barsness Lutheran Church and lifetime resident of Pope County. Following retirement, he wintered in Arizona. In March 1995, he moved to Minnewaska Lutheran Home in Starbuck.
He was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers.

Florence J. Bjorngjeld
July 29, 1910 - Feb. 16, 2000
KERKHOVEN - Florence Josephine Bjorngjeld, 89, of Kerkhoven, died Wednesday at Bethesda Pleasant View Care Facility in Willmar.
Her funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Kerkhoven Lutheran Church with the Rev. Don Block officiating. Burial will be in Hillside Cemetery in Kerkhoven.
Visitation will be 4 to 7 p.m. today at Jacobson-Zniewski Funeral Home in Benson, and one hour prior to services at the church.
She was born July 29, 1910, in Benson, to Ole and Mina (Samsol) Holstad. She was a graduate of Benson High School.
On May 1, 1937, she married Olaf Bjorngjeld in Benson, where they lived. They later moved to Kerkhoven.
She was a member of Kerkhoven Lutheran Church and Homemakers Club.
She is survived by her daughter Carol Van Buren (and special friend Wally Gilbertson) of Willmar; son Gary (and Jan) Bjorngjeld of Murdock; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and sisters Emma Jossart of Benson and Mary Ann Pederson of Benson.
She was preceded in death by her husband, two brothers and four sisters.

Rev. Willard Geselle
Nov. 27, 1925 - Feb. 11, 2000
GRAND RAPIDS - The Rev. Willard J. Geselle, 74, of Grand Rapids, died Friday at Itasca Nursing Home.
His funeral was held Wednesday at Church of the Nazarene in Grand Rapids. Burial was in Itasca-Calvary Cemetery in Grand Rapids. Arrangements were with Rowe Funeral Home of Grand Rapids.
He was born Nov. 27, 1925, in Detroit Lakes, to Olen W. and Lillian L. (Pfettscher) Geselle.
On Oct. 7, 1946, he married Annie M. "Marie" Adams in Charleston, Mo. He attended schools in Danube and Olivia, later graduating with honors from Olivet Nazarene College in Kankakee, Ill. He served as pastor in Corvuso as well as other parishes.
He is survived by his wife; daughters Ruth Anderson of Grand Rapids, Patsy (and Bill) Malas of Richmond, Va.; sons James (and Julie) Geselle of Elkhart, Ind., Timothy (and Rhoda) Geselle of Newbury Park, Calif.; sisters LaVerna Geselle of Willmar, Geraldine Swanson of Hector; brother Earl (and Grace) Geselle of Nampa, Idaho; seven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and other relatives.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one granddaughter, one great-granddaughter and one sister.

Norman 'Nobby' Halvorson
July 9, 1920 - Feb. 16, 2000
GLENWOOD - Norman "Nobby" Halvorson, 79, of Glenwood, died Wednesday at Glenwood Retirement Village.
His memorial service will be at 1:30 p.m. Monday at Glenwood Lutheran Church with the Rev. James Gronewold officiating.
Visitation will be 3 to 6 p.m. Sunday at Hoplin Funeral Chapel.
He was born July 9, 1920, in Glenwood "West" Township, to Henry Gustav and Hilda Bolleta (Barsness) Halvorson. He was a 1939 graduate of Glenwood High School. He farmed the family farm his entire life.
On Oct. 18, 1947, he married Mary Jane Carson in Minneapolis.
He was a charter member of Glenwood Jaycees, was a member of Lions Club and Glenwood Lutheran Church, and active with Glenwood Boy Scouts.
He is survived by his wife; sons Henry Halvorson of St. Louis Park, Eric Halvorson of Minneapolis, Mark Halvorson of Glenwood; daughter Carey (and Robert) Peterson of Hugo; and four grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother and one sister.

Ethel M. Kohmetscher
May 1, 1913 - Feb. 16, 2000
LITCHFIELD - Ethel Mae Kohmetscher, 86, of Litchfield, died Wednesday at Bethany Nursing Home in Litchfield.
Her funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Church of St. Philip in Litchfield with the Rev. Peter Nosbush officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery in Litchfield.
Visitation will be 4 to 7 p.m. today, with a 7 p.m. prayer service, at Johnson-Hagglund Funeral Home in Litchfield.
She was born May 1, 1913, in Swede Grove Township, Meeker County, to John and Matilda (Neuman) Christenson. Her mother died in 1918 and she was raised by her aunt, Emma Johnson. She was a 1934 graduate of Washington High School in Litchfield.
On Sept. 4, 1939, she married Lawrence Henry Kohmetscher in Litchfield. They farmed near Indianola, Neb., and south of Litchfield, moving into Litchfield in 1951. She was employed by Litchfield Produce, The Travelers Inn, Colonial Café, and Tonka Toys of Mound.
She was a member of Litchfield Golden Age Club.
She is survived by her daughters Lorna (and Norman) Menken of Litchfield, Rose (and Lyle) Shepersky of Two Harbors, Ruth (and Larry) Sutter of Litchfield; 13 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; and other relatives.
She was preceded in death by her husband in September 1963, and by three sisters and four brothers.
