BELGRADE - Doris Matilda Fauskee, 70, of Belgrade died Friday at her home.
Her funeral will be at 11 a.m. today at Grace Lutheran Church in Belgrade with the Rev. Carl Listug officiating. Burial will be in the Grace Lutheran East Cemetery in Belgrade.
Visitation is one hour prior to services at the church. Johnson Funeral of in Belgrade is in charge of arrangements.
She was born Jan. 18, 1930, in Spring Hill Township, Stearns County, to Nicholas and Anna (Schroeder) Koll. She attended Belgrade High School.
On June 29, 1955, she married Abner Fauskee in Belgrade, where they lived. She was a homemaker and also worked as a waitress, a nursing home aide, at the school and at Jennie-O Foods.
She was a member of Grace Lutheran Church, the Belgrade VFW Auxiliary and Grace Lutheran Martha Circle.
She is survived by her husband; daughters Anne (and Tom) Kampsen of Belgrade, Judy (and Roger) Imdieke of New London; sons Jim (and Janna) Fauskee of Coon Rapids and Charles Fauskee of New Hope; eight grandchildren; brother Ralph (and Pat) Koll of St. Paul and sister Joyce Felling of St. Cloud.
She is preceded in death by her parents, her twin brother Donald and two other brothers.

Pius M. Scherr
Nov. 5, 1945 - July 28, 2000
SAUK RAPIDS - Pius Martin Scherr, 54, of Sauk Rapids, formerly of Starbuck, died Friday at the St. Cloud Hospital from injuries sustained in an automobile accident.
His funeral will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in rural Starbuck with the Rev. David Grant officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Starbuck Funeral Home in Starbuck, and one hour prior to services at the church.
He was born Nov. 5, 1945, at Rugby, N.D., to Wendelin and Barbara (Burkhardt) Scherr. He graduated from Balta, N.D., High School in 1963. He entered the U.S. Army and served in Vietnam from 1966-69. After returning from Vietnam he worked for a short time in Balta and Devils Lake, N.D., before moving to the Minneapolis area.
On Sept. 4, 1971, he married Phyllis Strickler near Starbuck. They lived in St. Paul. In 1976, they moved to Starbuck, where they remained until they moved to Sauk Rapids in 1997. For the past 11 years he has been employed by Brad Ragan Goodyear in Waite Park.
He was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, where he had served as a Sunday School teacher and was a Luther Crest delegate. He also was a member of the Starbuck VFW where he was Quartermaster for 10 years. He volunteered for the Big Brother-Big Sister program.
He is survived by his wife; daughter Mardella (and Jonathan) Noyes of Sauk Rapids; mother of Rugby, N.D.; brothers Timothy (and Christine) Scherr of St. Paul Park, James Scherr of Cottage Grove and Duane (and Deb) Scherr of Minneapolis; sisters Cecelia (and Ralph) Dubovoy of Minot, N.D., Josephine Weisser of Bemidji, Carol (and Bruce) Jackson of Roseville, Alice (and Rodger) Hoffert of Grand Forks, N.D., Doris (and Patrick) Menard of St. Cloud, Diane (and Earl) Erickson of West Fargo, N.D., and other relatives.
He was preceded in death by his father.

Norton H. Schensted
March 21, 1901 - July 29, 2000
GLENWOOD - Norton H. Schensted, 99, of Glenwood died Saturday at the Glenwood Retirement Village.
His funeral will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Glenwood Lutheran Church. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Hoplin Funeral Chapel, Glenwood.
Memorials are preferred to the Cystic Fibrosis Society or Glenwood Lutheran Church.
He was born March 21, 1901, near Brooten.
On Oct. 5, 1923, he married Jane Houbolt. He began his 42-year career with the U.S. Postal Service in the Brooten area. In 1933, the family moved to Glenwood, where he worked for the Post Office. He started the Bow Hunter's Supply Shop in Glenwood.
He and his wife were champion archers, winning several Minnesota state archery tournaments. He was a member of Toastmasters, and he was a Sunday School teacher at Glenwood Lutheran Church, where he was a member for 67 years. He was a curator for the Pope County Historical Museum, and at the time of his death he was the oldest member of the Rural Letter Carriers Association.
He is survived by his children Marshall of Glenwood, Warren (and Liz) of Seattle, Wash., and Jeanne (and Charles) Weber of Eden Prairie; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren, and his sister Alice Gildemeister of Belgrade.
He was preceded in death by his wife, one brother, daughter-in-law Dorothy, a grandson and a great-grandson.

Grant Messenbrink
Jan. 9, 1920 - July 28, 2000
LITCHFIELD - Grant John Alfred Messenbrink, 80, of Litchfield died Friday at the Veterans Hospital in St. Cloud.
His funeral will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Johnson-Hagglund Funeral Home in Litchfield with the Rev. Richard Ricker officiating. Burial will be in the Amo Methodist Cemetery in Windom. Military rites will be conducted by Admiral Benson Post 2818 VFW.
Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the funeral home.
He was born Jan. 9, 1920, in Amo Township, Cottonwood County, to Fred and Bertha (Jahn) Messenbrink. He attended school through the eighth grade. He enlisted in the Army and served in World War II from 1941-45. He farmed and did custom corn shelling in the Windom area. He moved to Litchfield and worked as a service man at Nystom's Truck Stop in Litchfield. He retired from the Anderson and Crane Machine Shop in Litchfield.
He is survived by sons Gary Messenbrink of San Jose, Calif., Dale (and Bruni) Messenbrink of Zirndorf, Germany, Robert (and Bonnie) Messenbrink of Annandale and Kelly Messenbrink of Litchfield; daughter Janet Bendt of Donnelly; five granddaughters; five great-grandchildren; sisters Blanche Crowell and Gladys Hanson, both of Windom, and other relatives.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two infant grandchildren, a sister and 10 brothers.

Robert H. Solmonson
Jan. 24, 1940 - July 28, 2000
LITCHFIELD - Robert Henry Solomonson, 60, of Litchfield died Friday at Rice Memorial Hospital in Willmar.
His funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at United Methodist Church in Litchfield with the Rev. Robert Hunter officiating. Private burial is at Ripley Cemetery in Litchfield.
Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. today at the Johnson-Hagglund Funeral Home, and one hour prior to services at the church.
He was born Jan. 24, 1940, in St. Peter to Henry and Myrtle (Peterson) Solmonson. He lived in Le Sueur and moved to Litchfield in 1949. He graduated from Litchfield High School in 1958. He graduated from Dunwoody Institute in 1960. He worked for Toro Manufacturing Company for 38 years as a product development designer. He retired in January to his home on Diamond Lake north of Atwater.
He was a member of Toastmasters and the United Methodist Church in Litchfield.
He is survived by sisters Mary Kae (and Phillip Bruno) Geittmann of Port Washington, Wis., and Judy Rae (and William) Rubis of Grove City and other relatives.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister.

Minnie (Palmeson) Nyyssela
March 24, 1916 - June 30, 2000
SEATTLE - Minnie (Palmeson) Nyyssela, 84, of Seattle died June 30 in Seattle.
Her funeral was July 5 at Yarington's Funeral Home of Seattle with the Rev. Tom Coloby presiding.
She was born March 24, 1916, to Mary and Peter Palmeson in Norway Lake Township, Kandiyohi County. She worked at various restaurants in Brooten and later at the Moose Lake State Hospital.
She married Abraham Nyyssela. She worked for the Seattle School District until retirement.
She is survived by her son Neil (and Marilyn) Nyyssela; daughter Karen McQuaid; four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; sister Gladys Nordby of Minneapolis and other relatives.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, four brothers and five sisters.

Verone Kehrer
Dec. 26, 1914 - July 26, 2000
NEW LONDON - Verone "Gunny" Kehrer, 85, a resident of Glen Oaks Care Center in New London, died July 26.
She was buried in Norwood-Young America.
She was born Dec. 26, 1914, in Sunburg to "Nuffen" and Anna Gunnufson. She graduated from St. Cloud Teacher's College in 1934 and taught in several towns including Brooten, Walnut Grove, San Francisco and Norwood-Young America. She was the vice president of the Citizens State Bank of Norwood for a number of years. She had a summer home on Games Lake.
She is survived by her daughters Mary Kehrer-Schneider (and Leo Schneider) of New London and Peg Kehrer (and husband Paul Otte) of Eugene, Ore.; two grandsons, and sisters Izola Brennan and Adeline Babcock.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald, her parents and two brothers.

G. Frank Dunlavy
May 17, 1910 - July 30, 2000
RAYMOND - G. Frank Dunlavy, 90, of Raymond died Sunday at the Heritage Nursing Home in Willmar.
His funeral will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at the United Methodist Church in Raymond with the Rev. Donald Lovejoy officiating. Burial will be in the Fairview Cemetery in Raymond.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Peterson Brothers Funeral Home in Willmar, and one hour prior to the services at the church.
He was born May 17, 1910, in Bloomfield, Iowa, to George and Goldie Jane (Goode) Dunlavy. He graduated from Arlington, S.D., High School. He worked at a creamery in Watertown, S.D.
He married Lila McFerran on Dec. 14, 1936, in Hayti, S.D. He worked for a transportation company and for Sears Roebuck Company. Later he farmed. They lived in Watertown and Sioux Falls, S.D., and moved to Raymond when they retired.
He was a member of the Raymond Lions Club, the Elks in Watertown and the United Commercial Travelers.
He is survived by his daughters LaDonna (and Delmar) Groen of Pennock, Carol (and Robert) Dahlke of Raymond and DeEtta (and Robert) Scheltens of Raymond; eight grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; brothers Kenneth (and Clara) Dunlavy of Raymond, John (and Pauline) Dunlavy of Willmar and Russell (and Lillian) Dunlavy of Willmar.
He was preceded in death by his parents; stepmother Eva; wife in 1987; two sisters, one grandson and one great-granddaughter.

Eugene C. Westphal
Oct. 21, 1941 - July 30, 2000
OLIVIA - Eugene Chester Westphal, 58, of Olivia died Sunday, at the Renville County Hospital in Olivia.
His funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Aloysius Catholic Church in Olivia with the Rev. Paul van de Crommert officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery with military rites by the Olivia American Legion and VFW.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today, with a 7 p.m. prayer service followed by a rosary, and 9 to 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Dirks-Blem Funeral Home in Olivia.
He was born Oct. 21, 1941, in Glencoe to Chester and Agnes (Bonine) Westphal. He attended school at Brownton and Danube. He served in the U.S. Army, including time in Vietnam.
He married Elaine Laraby on Nov. 23, 1968, in Granite Falls. He worked several years for Duininck Brothers before opening Westphal Trucking, which he owned and operated for 29 years.
He was a member of the Olivia American Legion and VFW.
He is survived by his wife; his daughters Amy Pavlik of Eden Prairie and Gail Westphal of Winona; one granddaughter; brothers Roger (and Marlene) Westphal of Andover and DuWayne Westphal of Olivia; sisters Donna (and Kenneth) Lalim of Grove City and Sharon Hopman of Olivia.
He was preceded in death by his parents.

Phyllis (Engel) Gott
May 27, 1944 - July 27, 2000
STOW, Ohio - Phyllis (Engel) Gott, 56, of Stow, Ohio, died Thursday from cancer.
Her funeral was Monday in Akron, Ohio, with burial at Hillside Memorial in Akron.
She was born May 27, 1944, in Willmar to Emil and Florence Engel. She graduated from Willmar High School in 1962.
She is survived by her son Todd of Stow; daughters Teresa (and Ray) Miranda of Stow, and Tammy of Stow; one grandson; brothers Ralph (and Jan) Engel of Willmar, Orville (and Rose) Engel of McGregor, Texas, Stan Engel of Anchorage, Alaska, and LeRoy Engel of Fairbanks, Alaska; sisters Patsy Engel of Willmar, Arlene Goebelt of Munroe Falls, Ohio, Ozella Rubald of Littleton, Colo.; Eldoris Engel of Minneapolis and other relatives.
She was preceded in death by her parents.

Ida A. Voca
March 10, 1961 - July 30, 2000
ASHLAND, Wis. - Ida (Freese) Voca, 39, of Ashland, Wis., died Sunday at Memorial Medical Center in Ashland as the result of an automobile accident.
Her memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Clara City with the Revs. Kelly and Bob Fischer officiating.
She was born March 10, 1961, in El Paso, Texas, to Harm and Renate (Weiss) Freese.
She was a registered nurse and worked at Court Manor Health and Rehabilitation Services in Ashland. In September 1980, she married William Voca in Clara City.
She is survived by her parents of Clara City; sons Robert (and Dana) Voca, Anthony Voca and Peter Voca, all of Ashland; sister Wanida (and Glenn) Black of San Francisco and one granddaughter.
She was preceded in death by her husband in 1997.

Lloyd J. Johnson Sr.
Nov. 17, 1914 - July 31, 2000
BROOTEN - Lloyd J. Johnson Sr., 85, of Brooten died Monday at Rice Memorial Hospital in Willmar.
His funeral will be at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at Trinity Lutheran Church in Brooten with the Rev. Barbara Mac Kinnon officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today at the Johnson Funeral Home in Belgrade, and one hour prior to the services at the church.
He was born Nov. 17, 1914, in Hanska to Knute and Julia (Nerlie) Johnson. The family moved to Terrace and then Belgrade.
He married Eleanor Otterness on Sept. 7, 1947. He worked in a variety of trades including plumber, welder, blacksmith, backhoe operator and musician. They moved several times, including to Spicer in 1992 and to Brooten in 1997.
He had a band for many years known as AL JAY and the Minnesotans and was a member of the Masons and the Shriners.
His is survived by his wife; daughters Betty (and Daniel) Harrier of Spicer, Pam (and Steve) Henze of Northfield; five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, son Lloyd Jr. and two brothers.

Clara B. Gilbertson
Dec. 2, 1921 - Aug. 1, 2000
BENSON - Clara Belle "Blackie'' Gilbertson, 78, of Benson died Tuesday morning at the Swift County-Benson Hospital.
Her funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at the Pilgrim Congregational Church in Benson with the Rev. Herb Rotunda officiating. Burial will be in the Benson City Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the Jacobson-Zniewski Funeral Home in Benson, and one hour prior to services at the church.
She was born Dec. 2, 1921, in Danvers Township, Swift County, to George P. and Lorene (Staton) Manska. She graduated from Morris High School.
She married Robert Gilbertson on April 26, 1941, in Benson. They lived in South St. Paul and moved to Benson after the war. She worked for Benson Produce, Fingerhut and Meadow Lane Health Care Center in Benson for eight years. She retired in the early 1980s.
She was a member of Pilgrim Congregational Church in Benson.
She is survived by her daughter Rosemary Flannigan of Benson; brothers Ed (and Georgia) Manska of Morris and Carl "PeeWee'' (and Shirley) Manska of Benson; sister Grace Manska of Morris; 12 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband in 1991, daughter Janet Gilbertson, a great-grandson, two sisters and three brothers.

K. Wayne Hawkinson
Feb. 22, 1918 - July 30, 2000
CYRUS - K. Wayne Hawkinson, 82, of Cyrus died Sunday at the Minnewaska District Hospital in Starbuck.
His funeral will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Trinity Lutheran Church of Cyrus with the Rev. John Malm officiating. Burial will be in the Scandia East Cemetery, rural Cyrus.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today at the church and from 9 to 11 a.m. Thursday at the Minnewaska Lutheran Home in Starbuck, and one hour prior to the service at the church. Hoplin Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
He was born Feb. 22, 1918, in Framnes Township, Stevens County, to Alfred "Freddie" and Esther (Solseth) Hawkinson. He graduated from Cyrus High School.
He married Francis Olson on June 24, 1941. They farmed all their lives in Cyrus.
He was Conservation Farmer of the Year in 1957. He and his wife were members of the Audubon Society. He was active at the Minnewaska Lutheran Home, serving as resident council president.
He is survived by his daughter Mary (and Mike) Hamre of Cyrus; half sister Shirley (and Duane) Hagen of Cyrus; five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife in 1991, his parents, stepmothers Anna Bruer Hawkinson and Irene Jacobson Hawkinson, and one granddaughter.
