Dec. 28, 1912 - Sept. 20, 2000
MONTICELLO -- E. May Suckstorff, 87, of Monticello, formerly of Glenwood, died Wednesday at Monticello-Big Lake Nursing Home.
Her funeral will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Calvary Lutheran Church with the Rev. John Willitz officiating. Burial will be in Glenwood Cemetery.
Visitation will be 7 to 9 p.m. today, with a 7 p.m. prayer service, at Hoplin Funeral Home in Glenwood.
She was born Dec. 28, 1912, in Redwood County, to Clemens and Josephine (Summerville) Ruhl. She lived in Glenwood and Albert Lea.
In December 1932, she married Fred Benson in rural Redwood Falls. After Fred died, she married Julius Suckstorff on Aug. 19, 1953, in Albert Lea. She was employed as bookkeeper by Swift and Company of Glenwood, Land O' Lakes of Albert Lea, and as a nurse's aide by Naeve Hospital from 1951-70. She moved to Monticello-Big Lake Nursing Home in February 1994.
She is survived by her children Jane (and Ardell) Bjurge of Minneapolis, Dona (and Glenn) Wilson of Tucson, Ariz., Shirley (and Earl) Miller of Pueblo Colo., Jerry Benson of Minneapolis, JoAnn (and Dr. Larry) White of Bismarck, N.D.; sisters Agnes Thompson of Duluth, Geneva Kinglsey of South Dakota, Fay Freitag of Redwood Falls, Pearl Ruhl of St. Louis Park; brothers Clinton Ruhl of Minneapolis, Richard Ruhl of Minneapolis; 19 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, both husbands, four grandchildren, two brothers and four sisters.

Ferdie K. Bengtson
April 3, 1924 - Sept. 19, 2000
KANDIYOHI -- Ferdinand K. Bengtson, 76, of Kandiyohi, died Tuesday at his home.
His funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Ebenezer Evangelical Lutheran Church with the Rev. Carlton Nelson officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. today at Harvey Anderson Funeral Home in Willmar and one hour prior to services at the church.
He was born April 3, 1924, in rural Kandiyohi to Albert and Amelia (Petersen) Bengtson. He attended Kandiyohi schools.
On June 28, 1947, he married Thelma Oveson in a double wedding with his twin brother Fred (and Leonora Sogge) in rural Kandiyohi. They lived in Kandiyohi. He was employed as assistant manager of Kandiyohi Farmers Union Elevator until 1969. He owned and operated Bengtson Amoco Oil in the Kandiyohi and Atwater areas, retiring in 1992.
He was a member of Ebenezer Evangelical Lutheran Church in Kandiyohi, serving on church council, as council chairman, outdoor custodian, churchmen organization and other church committees. He was a charter member of Kandiyohi Fire Department, serving as past chief, charter member of Kandiyohi Men's Club and member of Whittier School Board.
He is survived by his wife; sons Michael (and Jane) Bengtson of Bloomington, Ind., Mark (and Shari) Bengtson of Willmar; nine grandchildren; sisters Alice (and Sheridan) Jackson of Litchfield, Hazel (and Roland) Rettig of Casper, Wyo., brother Luverne (and Bernice) Bengtson of Spicer and other relatives.
He was preceded in death by his parents, son Douglas, two brothers and two sisters.

Joan Ganske
July 27, 1929 - Sept. 20, 2000
GLENWOOD -- Joan Ganske, 71, of Glenwood died Wednesday at her home under the care of Hospice.
Her funeral will be at 3 p.m. Saturday at the Villard United Methodist Church with the Rev. Alice Tobler officiating. Burial will be in the Lake Amelia Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Hoplin Funeral Chapel in Glenwood.
She was born July 27, 1929, in Lake Mary Township to Joe and Antonia (Dynda) Tvrdik. She graduated from Alexandria High School.
On Oct. 30, 1950, she married Wayne Ganske in Alexandria.
She was a member of the Villard United Methodist Church, where she helped with Sunday School and other church activities. She was a member of the Homemakers Club, Birthday Club of Villard and West Port.
She is survived by her husband; sons Mark (and Mary) of Waterloo, Iowa, Terry (and Darci) of Milbank, S.D., and David of Shoreview; brothers Daniel Tvrdik, Eugene Tvrdik, Lawrence Tvrdik and Jerry Tvrdik; sister Adeline Kalina; four grandchildren and other relatives.
She was preceded in death by her parents.

Freda V. Darkow
May 12, 1912 - Sept. 23, 2000
MINNEAPOLIS -- Freda Viola Darkow, 88, of Minneapolis died Saturday.
Her funeral will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Bradshaw (McDivitt Hauge) Funeral Home, 3131 Minnehaha Ave. S., Minneapolis (612-724-3621). Burial will be in Fort Snelling National Cemetery.
Visitation will be 4 to 7 p.m. today and 10 to 11 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
She was born May 12, 1912, in Norway Lake Township to Ole and Alma (Torgerson) Rasmusson.
She is survived by her son Steven Jorgenson of Tenstrike; one granddaughter; three sisters, six brothers and other relatives.
She was preceded in death by her husband Albert, parents, five sisters and one brother.

Florence D. Skreberg
Feb. 5, 1920 - Sept. 21, 2000
MONTEVIDEO -- Florence Della Skreberg, 80, of Montevideo died Thursday at her home in Montevideo.
Her funeral will be at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Montevideo with the Rev. Lois Knutson and the Rev. Douglas Olson officiating. Burial will be in Zion Lutheran Cemetery.
Visitation will be Wednesday afternoon and evening at Anderson Funeral Home in Montevideo and one hour prior to services at the church.
She was born Feb. 5, 1920, in Big Bend Township, Chippewa County, to Helmer and Emma (Larson) Rear. She was a 1938 graduate of Montevideo High School.
On Aug. 23, 1941, she married Carl Skreberg in Sioux City, Neb. They farmed in the Watson area for 35 years, retiring into Montevideo.
She had been a member of Zion Lutheran Church and was currently a member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church. She was active in VFW Auxiliary, Hospital Auxiliary and circle.
She is survived by her sisters Mamie Robbins of Tomahawk, Wis., Ellen Lundring of Sierra Madre, Calif., Hazel Johnson of Montevideo and other relatives.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband in 1992, two brothers and one sister.

Duane 'Duke' Thiele
July 14, 1924 - Sept. 25, 2000
WILLMAR -- Duane "Duke" Thiele, 76, of Willmar, formerly of Glencoe, died Monday at his home following an extended illness.
His memorial service will be at 3 p.m. Thursday at Vinje Lutheran Church in Willmar with the Rev. Barbara Johnson officiating. Burial will be in Hillcrest Cemetery in Glencoe. Military honors by Glencoe VFW and American Legion Post. Memorials are preferred.
Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the church. Arrangements are with Peterson Brothers Funeral Home in Willmar.
He was born July 14, 1924, in Franklin to George and Cora (Olson) Thiele. He was a 1943 graduate of Glencoe High School. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps, and was honorably discharged from the U.S. Air Force Reserve in 1955.
On Dec. 27, 1944, he married Audrey Bargman in Glencoe. He attended Hamline University. They moved in 1948 to Glencoe where he owned and operated Thiele Studio. In 1971, they moved to Willmar where he established the photography program at Willmar Vo-Tech, serving as department chair until retiring in 1991. He received craftsman and master's degrees in photography from the National Professional Photographers Association and instructed photography at National School of Photography in Winona Lake, Ind.
He was a charter member of Glencoe Jaycees, a National Jaycee Director, charter member and past president of Glencoe Rotary Club, member and past president of Willmar Rotary Club, past president of Minnesota Professional Photographers Association, member of Sons of Norway, American Legion Post in Glencoe and Willmar and Vinje Lutheran Church, where he was past president of the council. He sang with the Kandiyo-Hi-Lo Men's Chorus.
He is survived by his wife; children Nancy (and Michael) Ratzloff of Little Falls, Jane (and Kyrl) Henderson of Shorewood, Julie (and Bob) Knutson of Spicer, Daniel (and Cynthia) Thiele of Elk River; eight grandchildren, one great-grandchild and other relatives.
He was preceded in death by his parents.

Raymond L. Thrush
April 15, 1905 - Sept. 24, 2000
WILLMAR -- Raymond L. Thrush, 95, of Willmar died Sunday at Rice Care Center.
His funeral will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at the Peterson Brothers Funeral Home in Willmar with the Rev. George Brechiesen officiating. Private burial will be in the Olivia City Cemetery.
Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
He was born April 15, 1905, in Boone County, Iowa, to Harvey and Eugenia (Dingman) Thrush. At age 9, his family moved to Estherville, Iowa, where he received his education.
On Aug. 31, 1935, he married Beatrice Nelson. They farmed near Lake Lillian until 1943, when they moved to Willmar. For several years he was employed as an automobile mechanic for Edgar Olson and later for Amundson-Evans Chevrolet Co.
He is survived by sons Donald (and Mary) of Virginia Beach, Calif., Jerry (and Marie) of Crystal Lake, Ill., David of Vadnais Heights, Robert (and Pat) of River Falls, Wis.; daughter Kathryne (and Paul) Loven of Big Lake; eight grandchildren; three great-grandchildren and sister Lorena Nelson of San Antonio, Texas.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife in 1996, one brother and one sister.

George E. Duckwitz Sr.
Oct. 3, 1928 - Sept. 24, 2000
HOLLOWAY -- George Ernest Duckwitz Sr., 71, of Holloway died Sunday at his home.
His funeral will be at 2:30 p.m. Thursday at Trinity Lutheran Church in Fairfield Township with the Rev. George Sagissor officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. today at Vaala Funeral Home in Appleton and one hour prior to services at the church.
He was born Oct. 3, 1928, in Hebron, N.D., to Ernest and Lena (Senne) Duckwitz. He was a graduate of Hebron High School and attended North Dakota State School of Science in Wahpeton, N.D. He served in the U.S. Army from 1951-53. He was employed as an auto mechanic in Wahpeton and Breckenridge before moving to Holloway to farm, which he did for 42 years, retiring in 1991.
On Sept. 18, 1955, he married Elaine Rieppel in Fairfield Township.
He was a longtime member of Trinity Lutheran Church, serving on the finance board. He was a member of Farm Bureau and American Legion Post 72 of Appleton.
He is survived by his wife; children George Jr.(and Diane) Duckwitz of Holloway, Chrystel (and Darryl) Davis of Oklahoma City, Okla., Lester Duckwitz of Holloway, Stewart Duckwitz of Holloway; two grandchildren; four stepgrandchildren; sisters Minnie Well of Forsyth, Mont., Hedwig (and Louis) LaRocque of El Paso, Texas, Gertrude (and Gilbert) Knopp of Hebron, N.D., Helen (and Walt) Hoff of Bismarck, N.D., Carolyn (and Larry) Marthaller of Dickinson, N.D., and other relatives.
He was preceded in death by his parents, son LeRoy, one sister and six brothers.

Alvin G. Marquardt
July 15, 1928 - Sept. 25, 2000
COSMOS -- Alvin Gordon Marquardt, 72, of Cosmos died Monday at Cosmos Healthcare Center.
His funeral will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at First Lutheran Church in rural Cosmos. Burial will be in Ripley Cemetery in Litchfield.
Visitation will be 4 to 9 p.m. today at the church and one hour prior to services. Arrangements are with Hughes Funeral Home of Hector.
He was born July 15, 1928, in Litchfield to Arnold and Martha (Bunke) Marquardt. He attended rural school District 82. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War from 1950-52. He farmed and tiled.
He was a member of First Lutheran Church in rural Cosmos and Beack-Thompson American Legion Post 126 in Cosmos.
He is survived by his brothers Kenneth Marquardt of Cosmos, Myron (and Doris) Marquardt of Fairfax; sister Marlene Herzog of Litchfield and other relatives.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother.

N. Gottfred Nelson
June 6, 1909 - Sept. 24, 2000
ROSHOLT, S.D. -- N. Gottfred Nelson, 91, of Rosholt, S.D., formerly of Willmar, died Sunday at Rosholt Care Center.
His memorial service will be Saturday at Bethania Lutheran Church in Rosholt with the Rev. Bipes officiating.
Arrangements are with Johnson Funeral Home in Rosholt.
For many years he lived in Willmar where he was employed by Willmar State Hospital. He was married to Clara (Bockman) Nelson.
He is survived by his sons Don of Holloway, Willys (and Irene) of Union, N.J.; daughters Pat Baker of Apache Junction, Ariz., Barbara Knight of Bloomington, Dorothy (and Russ) Rustad of Willmar, Karin (and Tom) Beadle of Richfield, Judy (and Don) Berglund of Lynden, Wash.; 17 grandchildren and 29 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, five sisters, his wife and one granddaughter.

Duane D. 'Zeke' Bjork
Dec. 1, 1923 - Sept. 16, 2000
BROWNSVILLE, Texas -- Duane Donald "Zeke" Bjork, 76, of Brownsville, Texas, formerly of Spicer, died Sept. 16 at his home in Brownsville.
His memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Hope Presbyterian Church in Spicer with the Rev. Terry Sletto officiating. Burial will be in Spicer City Cemetery.
Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday, with a Sharon Masonic Lodge public memorial service at 7 p.m., at Green Lake Funeral Home in Spicer, and one hour prior to the service at the church. There will be no reviewal.
He was born Dec. 1, 1923, in Sunburg to Walfred and Lydia (Swanson) Bjork. He was a 1942 graduate of New London High School.
On Aug. 7, 1945, he married Shirley Wallin in Spicer. He was employed by the railroad for 10 years, as an electrician by Mid-State Electric Company, and by Trinity Industries of New London for 15 years until retirement.
He was a life member of Sharon Masonic Lodge, Mt. Nebo Chapter, Knights Templar Commandery, Willmar Area Shrine Club and Osman Shrine Temple where he was a Clown Club member. He was a board member of Palm Resaca Mobile Park in Brownsville, and lifetime member of Hope Presbyterian Church in Spicer.
He is survived by his wife; daughter Renae (and Rick) Gustafson of Bloomington; three grandchildren; brothers Arlen Bjork of Willmar, Nuvillo Bjork of Sunburg; sister Neola Simmonson of Belgrade and other relatives.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters.

Ernest R. Hines
Dec. 11, 1912 - Sept. 26, 2000
BELVIEW -- Ernest Raymond Hines, 87, of Belview died Tuesday at Redwood Area Hospital.
His funeral will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Grace Lutheran Church in Belview with the Rev. Martha Halls officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Military rites by Belview American Legion Post.
Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. today, with a 7:30 p.m. prayer service, at Sunset Funeral Home in Echo and one hour prior to services at the church.
He was born Dec. 11, 1912, in Kintire Township, Redwood County, to John and Bertha (Elenson) Hines. He lived on the family farm his entire life. He was a World War II veteran, serving from 1942-45 as a gunner in the 776th T.D. in Tunisia, Naples, Rome, Rhineland and Central Europe.
On Aug. 23, 1947, he married Amanda Standfuss in Danube.
He was a member of Belview American Legion, Grace Lutheran Church and PTA, serving as president.
He is survived by his wife; children George (and Diane) of Wonder Lake, Ill., Garvin of Belview, Trudy (and Paul) Kidrowski of Willmar, David (and Brenda) of Spicer and eight grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, an infant son, son Daryl Ray, three brothers and two sisters.

Gloria J. (Everson) Miller
April 5, 1941 - Sept. 26, 2000
WESTON, Conn. -- Gloria Jean Miller, 59, of Weston, Conn., died Tuesday at her home in Weston, after a 13-year battle against breast cancer.
Her memorial service will be at 12 noon Sunday at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Atwater with the Rev. Dan Carlson officiating. Burial will be in Atwater. Memorials to the American Cancer Society are preferred.
Visitation will be 5 to 7 p.m. today at Gallagher Funeral Home in Greenwich, Conn.
She was born April 5, 1941, in Willmar to Alexander and Elsie Everson. She grew up in Atwater and was a 1962 graduate of University of Minnesota with a degree in journalism. She worked for newspaper organizations in Poulsbo, Wash., Honolulu and San Francisco. She returned to University of Minnesota to study for a graduate degree in political science.
In 1968, she married Peter Putnam Miller. They lived in New York City; Paris, France; Darien, Conn.; London, England; Stavanger, Norway; Jakarta, Indonesia; and Weston.
She was a Cub Scout Pack Committee Chairman in Jakarta, Darien and Weston; an executive distributor for NuSkin, International, and member of Weston Women's Club.
She is survived by her husband; sons Jonathan and Kristen; sisters Marlene Skoglund of Willmar, Jo Anne Anderson of Tucson, Ariz.; and brothers LeRoy Everson of Atwater and Ronald Everson of Atwater.

Adeline L. Fuglem
Aug. 12, 1908 - Sept. 26, 2000
ATWATER -- Adeline Louise Fuglem, 92, of Atwater died Tuesday at Emmanuel Home in Litchfield.
Her funeral will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at St. John Lutheran Church, north of Atwater, with the Rev. Russ Grabau officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at Atwater Funeral Home and one hour prior to services at the church.
She was born Aug. 12, 1908, in Harrison Township, Kandiyohi County, to Herman and Martha (Pagel) Gratz. She was a 1927 graduate of Atwater High School.
On June 10, 1928, she married Arnold Fuglem in Atwater. They lived in Grove City where they owned and operated a hardware business. They also lived in Dassel, Red Lake Falls and Minneapolis. In 1933, they moved north of Atwater where they farmed. Arnold died in 1963. She moved into Atwater and was employed by Bethesda Homes of Willmar. She has lived at Emmanuel Home in Litchfield the past five years.
She is survived by her daughter Clarris (and Wilbert) Hedtke of Grove City; five grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; brothers Vernon (and Ina) Gratz of Anaheim, Calif., Lawrence (and Margaret) Gratz of Willmar and other relatives.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, four brothers and two sisters.
