George Parizek - - 1909 - 2001
George M. Parizek, 92, 1805 2nd Ave. SW # 112, Minot, died Saturday, April 21, 2001, at his home.
He was born February 18, 1909, in Iowa the son of Frank and Barbara Parizek. In 1915, the family moved to a farm north of Minot in Eureka Township where he also attended Eureka School. As a young man he farmed with his parents and brothers on the family farm.
On December 26, 1938, he married Verona Mellum of Minot. After their marriage, they farmed north of Minot for a number of years. In the early 40's they moved to the Deering area. They farmed and raised livestock for many years. In 1987, they moved to Minot, and spent numerous winters in Arizona.
He was a member of Deering Lutheran Church. He served on the Deering school board, was involved in 4'H club, and was a lifetime member of the Elks Lodge in Minot.
Survivors: wife, Verona, Minot; sons, Leonard and his wife Sandra, Glenburn, Duane and his wife Cheri, Mesa, AZ, and Miles and his wife Esther, Deering; 10 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews survive.
Funeral Service: Wednesday, April 25, 2001, at 11 a.m. at Bethany Lutheran Church, Minot.
Visitation: Tuesday, April 24, 2001, from Noon until 8:30 p.m. at the Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Minot.
Burial: Sunset Memorial Gardens, Minot.

John W. Pence - - 1921 - 2001
John W. Pence, 79, 15-9th St. SE, lifelong resident of Minot, died Friday, April 13, 2001, in a Minot hospital.
An activist and keen supporter of his community, Mr. Pence served on the Minot City Council and the Ward County Commission. He could rightly be described as an avid American, having served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II, thereafter devoting much of his time and energy to veterans' affairs and to the observance of American memorial events. He was often the master of ceremonies on these occasions, always relishing the opportunity to commemorate America and its service men and women. His wife Dorothy, also a World War II veteran, frequently was a partner with him in those endeavors.
He was born April 17, 1921, in Minot, a son of Dr. J.R. and Florence (Stenersen) Pence. Raised in Minot, he attended the Minot Public Schools, graduating from Minot High School in 1939. He was employed at International Harvester Co. while a high school student, then at the Great Northern Railroad in Minot prior to World War II. He served three years in the Army Medical Corps in the South Pacific at New Guinea and the Philippines with the Army's 24th and 41st divisions of the 6th Army. He attained the rank of sergeant.
He graduated from the University of North Dakota with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Grand Forks in 1947. He attended the University of Maryland as a student of medical research for one year. He then returned to the University of North Dakota in Grand Forks where he worked as an assistant with the medical school. On Dec. 28, 1949, he married Dorothy Milversted in Dubuque, Iowa. They since have made their home in Minot.
For 30 years, he was employed as a medical representative with the Lederle Laboratories Division of American Cyanamid traveling much of North Dakota and eastern Montana. He was a recipient of the company's Gold Cup and Golden Oval awards. He retired in 1980. Recently he worked at the Minot Chrysler Center as a driver.
He was a member of the Minot City Council from 1980 to 1984 and of the Ward County Commission from 1986 to 1994. He served a term as chairman of the county commission and was a past president of the North Dakota County Commissioners Association. He was an investigator, by appointment, for the North Dakota State Board of Medical Examiners and served on the administrative committee for the Western North Dakota Health Systems Agency.
In 1993, he was appointed by Gov. Edward T. Schafer to the Administrative Committee on Veterans Affairs. He held a life membership in Minot Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #753, and was post commander from 1988 to1990. He also was a member of the William G. Carroll Post of the American Legion in Minot. He was a member of the Veterans Memorial Committee that established a new veterans memorial section at Rosehill Memorial Park in Minot. Long active in Boy Scout work, he was a past district chairman of the Boy Scouts of America and served on the executive board of the BSA's Northern Lights Council. He received the organization's Silver Beaver Award.
He was a longtime member of First Presbyterian Church in Minot, where he served as trustee, deacon and head usher. He had a life membership in the Minot Elks Lodge. He enjoyed a variety of sports, played tennis and golf for many years and was a past president of the North Dakota Curling Association. He also was a volunteer train driver at Roosvelt Park. Over the years, he never missed a lutefisk dinner in the area.
He is survived by his wife Dorothy; sons, David J. Pence, Fargo, James R. Pence (Carol), Faribault, MN, and Thomas W. Pence (Brenda Olney), Fargo; grandchildren, Nicole and Eric Pence, and stepgrandchildren, Jennifer, Marshall and Reid Arnold; sister, Mary P. Pence, Minot. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral: Tuesday, April 17, 2001, at 1 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church, Minot.
Burial: Rosehill Memorial Park, Minot.
Visitation: Monday, from noon until 8:30 p.m. at the Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Minot.
Memorials are preferred to the new Veterans Memorial section at Rosehill Memorial Park.

Gary W. Peterson - - 1938 - 2001
Gary W. Peterson, 62, Rock Springs, WY, formerly of Flaxton, ND, died Monday, March 12, 2001, in a Salt Lake City, Utah hospital.
He was born April 29, 1938, to Gerhardt and Hazel (Huttner) Peterson near Flaxton, ND. He was reared and educated in the Flaxton area and graduated from Flaxton High School in 1956. In May of 1956, he entered the United States Marine Corp. He was stationed in California until being discharged in the fall of 1959. He returned to Flaxton, where he went to work in the oil fields. He was later hired by Texaco and worked at the Texaco Gas Plant in Lignite. ON July 8, 1962, he married Colleen Kelly in Bowbells. In 1977 they moved to Rock Springs, Wyoming where he continued working for Texaco as a gas meter tester. He retired in 1997 and they continued living in Rock Springs until the time of his death.
He was a member of the American Legion S.M. Foote Post #161 and United Lutheran Church where he served on the church council, both of Flaxton. He was a former member of the Flaxton Sportsman Club and served as the Mayor of Flaxton for a time.
Survivors: wife, Colleen, Rock Springs; son, Bruce Peterson and wife Diana, Rock Springs; one grandson, Christian Peterson, Rock Springs; brothers, Wayne Peterson and wife Bodil, Norway and Alan Peterson and wife Colleen, Minot. He was preceded in death by his parents, Gerhardt and Hazel Peterson; two brothers, Kenny and Norman Peterson and grandparents, Chris and Marie Peterson and Frank and Maria Huttner.
Funeral: Saturday, at 1:00 p.m. at United Lutheran Church, Flaxton.
Friends may sign the register one hour prior to the service at the church.
Burial: Ebenezer Cemetery, rural Flaxton, ND in the spring of 2001.

Mount Carmel "Munsy" Petersen - - 1919 - 2000
Mount Carmel "Munsy" Petersen, 81, 1328 1st St. SE, Minot, died Thursday, December 28, 2000, in a Minot medical center.
Mount Carmel was born April 25, 1919, in Donnybrook, ND, the daughter of George and Louise (Greenwood) Wood. She was raised and educated in Donnybrook, and graduated from Donnybrook High School in 1937.
On June 7, 1940 she married Lynn Vernie Petersen in Minot. The couple lived in Minot for a time. In 1944, they moved to Kirkeland, WA, where he was stationed in the United States Navy. On November 1, 1945, they returned to Minot. She remained at home raising her family until the early 1970's. She worked at Jackie's Café, and later was employed at Harrington's Livestock Café, where she worked until her retirement in the 1980's. Her husband Lynn preceded her in death on November 13, 1997.
Munsy was a member of Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church, Minot.
Survivors: Sons, Lynn M. Petersen, Kenmare, Ronald G. Petersen, Surrey, Daniel J. Petersen and his wife Chaw, Minot, Edward L. Petersen and his wife Heather, Jamestown, and Timothy N. Petersen, Minot; daughter, Janice Adams and her husband Blake, Groesbeck, TX; 19 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; sister, Vedith Miller, Minot; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins also survive. Albin Peterson - - 1921 - 2001
Albin Peterson, 79, 1115 1st St. SE, Minot, ND, died Monday, January 8, 2001, in a Minot medic
He was born July 22, 1921, in Torning Township, Ward County, the son of Anton and Agnes (Johansen) Peterson. He was reared and educated in Torning Township.
He entered the United States Army on February 21, 1945, serving during World War II. He was honorably discharged on August 8, 1946.
He married Mavis Thompson July 3, 1947, in Minot. The couple made their home in Minot for over fifty years. They lived in Tioga for one and a half years where he was employed with Miller Brothers as a carpenter. While in Minot he was employed with Muus Lumber Company as a foreman. He retired in 1983.
He was a member of the American Legion for over 48 years, the Dakota Cruisers Car Club and the American Veterans Association.
Survivors: wife, Mavis, Minot; sons, James Peterson, Hamilton, Ohio, and Bruce Peterson and his wife Melanie, Las Vegas, NV; daughters, Renda Davis, Minot, Valerie Bellis, Beachwood, NJ, and Judith Farroh and her husband Steven, Minot; 12 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; sister Jennie Ennis, Minot, several nieces and nephews also survive. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Alvin Peterson and two sisters, Mae Ness and Emma Estenson.

Earl Matthew Phillips - - 1934 - 2000
Earl Matthew Phillips, 66, Lansford, lifelong Muskego Township, Renville County farmer, died Wednesday, October 25, 2000, in his home, following an illness with cancer.
Earl was born September 14, 1934, on the family farm, in Muskego Township, Renville County, near Lansford, ND, the son of George and Clara (Nett) Phillips. He was raised in that area and attended Barney Google school.
He married Eloise Rennie on February 26, 1957, in Minot, ND. Earl was drafted into the United States Army and served in Germany with the 24th Armored Division from 1957 to 1959. Following his discharge the couple lived and farmed their entire life in Muskego Township, Renville County.
Earl was a member of St. Philomena's Catholic Church, Glenburn, and was a former Trustee for the church. He served as Muskego Township clerk, from 1959 to present. He was currently a member of the Fireman's Board in Glenburn, and the Knights of Columbus and Eagle's Aerie, both Minot. He was once a member of St. Henry's Catholic Parish, Muskego Township, Renville County.
Survivors: Wife, Eloise, Lansford; sons, Steve Phillips and his wife Laura, Minot, and their son, Mathew; Darryl Phillips, West Fargo; Paul Phillips and his wife Carol, Minot; Brian Phillips and his wife Debbie, Minot, and their children, Preston, Paige and Miriah, and Jerome Phillips and his fiance Darlene Kirchofner, Minot, and his children, Tammy Jo and Keely Ilysia Recktenwald; daughters, Ann Larson and her husband Rick, Renton, WA, and their children, Rebecca, Kristen and Ricky III; Nancy Lancto and her husband Kevin, Westfield, Massachussetts, and their children, Zachery and Brandon; sister, Yvonne Schmaltz and her husband Clarence, Wahkon, MN; brother, Gary Phillips and his wife Audrey, Lansford; numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins also survive. Vera Rose Hrichena-Piche - - 1905 - 2001
Vera Rose Hrichena-Piche, 96, Minot, died Tuesday, March 13, 2001, in a Minot nursing home.
She was born January 23, 1905, on the family farm east of Max, ND, the daughter of Carl and Martha (Zoltenko) Kabanuk.. She was reared and educated in Max.
She married Ehnat Hrichena on October 9, 1922. The couple farmed in the communities of Minot, Max and Sawyer until 1963, when they moved to Sawyer. Ehnat died in 1968. In 1976, Vera was married to Leonard Piche. He died in 1989. In 1988, she moved in to Trinity Homes where she lived until her death.
Vera was very active in the Sawyer Baptist Church until 1986, when she moved to Minot where she had been attending the Minot Baptist Church. She was also active in the Sawyer Senior Citizens for many years.
She always liked to entertain and enjoyed having company. She was diligent in visiting Shut-ins. She was faithful to her belief in God and was always willing to share it with others.
Survivors: daughters, Alice Kolodziejczyk, Minneapolis, MN and Nettie Langager and her husband Eldor, Red Wing, MN; 15 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews also survive. She was preceded in death by her husbands, son, Paul Hrichena, one granddaughter, one sister and five brothers.
Funeral Service: Friday, March 16, 2001, at 1 p.m. at Trinity Homes, Minot.
Visitation: Thursday, March 15, 2001, from Noon until 8:30 p.m. at the Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Minot and one hour prior to the service at Trinity Homes.
Burial: Sawyer Community Cemetery, Sawyer, ND. Burial will take place in the spring.

Andrew George Pritschet - - 1908 - 2000
Andrew George Pritschet, 92, Alexandria, VA, formerly of Foxholm, died Wednesday, October 4, 2000 in Alexandria.
He was born on August 30, 1908, in Kirklee Township, near Foxholm, ND, the son of Mary (Sailer) and George Pritschet. He was the first born of 13 children. He was reared and educated in Foxholm and graduated from Foxholm High School in 1926. He then attended Minot State University and then started his teaching career. He taught school in different areas of North Dakota including, St. Henry's, Norma, Burlington, Tolley, Napoleon, and Riverdale. He was also superintendent at some of these schools. He then went to work for the United States Department of Defense as a superintendent of schools in Europe. He was also named the Head of Education Administration in Europe from 1952-1957. He later moved to Alexandria, Virginia where he worked for the Corps of Engineers and retired at the age of 72. He received a bachelors of Science degree in education from Minot State University, a masters degree in education from the University of Idaho and was working on his Doctorate from the University of Oklahoma. He was married to the former Virginia E. Drennen.
Andy was a member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Community, Alexandria, Virginia and he started the CCD program there. He was also a member of the Phi Delta Kappa Fraternity ( an educational organization) and the Knights of Columbus.

Pritschet, Alexandria, VA; daughters, Joan Boyd, Gales Ferry, Connecticut and Ginny Ann Snaider, Reston, VA; four grandchildren, ( David, Deborah, Diane and Becky); eight great-grandchildren; sisters, Ann Roles, Minot, Martha Leggate, Billings, MT, and Moudeen Meyer, Minot, brothers, John "Jack" Pritschet, Foxholm and Francis Pritschet, Elkhart, Ind. James Raszler - - 1963- 2001
James Elmer Raszler, 37, Mandan and Ryder, died Sunday, February 4, 2001, in Snoqualmie Pass, Washington.
James Elmer Raszler was born on June 20, 1963, in Minot, ND, to Ernest and Marcia (Hanson) Raszler of Ryder, ND. He was reared and educated on a farm near Ryder and graduated from North Shore Makoti High School in 1981. He then attended one year of college at National College of Business in Rapid City, SD.
He began his trucking career in 1983, when he went south custom combining with Don Sitma of Hettinger, ND. He later trucked with Neshem Custom Combiners of Berthold and Opland Custom Combining of Des Lacs. He then worked for Minot Builders of Minot, Mitchell Brothers, Portland, OR and then for Opland Custom Combiners and Trucking of Des Lacs. He has trucked for Saville Grain and Transportation of Bismarck since 1993.
Jim was a member of Rose Valley Lutheran Church, Des Lacs where he was baptized, confirmed and was a member of the Luther League. He was a member of Busiest Beavers 4-H Club. He also was a race car enthusiast and served as a pit man for Mark Dahl in Bismarck and Minot.
Jim is survived by his parents, Ernest and Marcia of Ryder; brothers and sister-in-laws, Kenneth and Linda Raszler, Minot and Dwight and Debbie Raszler of Des Lacs. Nieces, Amber and Crystal Johnson and nephew, Clint Ellis; several aunts, uncles and cousins. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, John and Rosina Raszler and Kenneth and Myrtle Hanson.

He was born April 25, 1920, to George L. and Alice O. (Taylor) Sturdivant Taylor at rural Sherwood, ND.
Leo and Lydia Reischke of rural Norma, ND, adopted him when he was three months old after his mother's death. He was raised and educated in Stafford Township in Renville County. As a young man he assisted his parents on the family farm and worked for area farmers.
He married Irene Shortridge on July 12, 1940, at Plentywood, MT. He worked in local mines in the Kenmare and Donnybrook areas and during early World War II he was a welder in the ship yards in Seattle, WA.
Orval and his wife returned to North Dakota and purchased a farm in Stafford Township rural Norma. In the early 1950' s they purchased a farm in Lakeview Township, Burke County, rural Norma, and farmed there until 1974. Between 1965 and 1971, they lived in Salem, OR, but maintained their farming interests in Lakeview and Stafford township.
In 1974, they moved to Kenmare, ND and in 1990 they moved to a hobby farm near Sherwood. In June of 2000, they moved to Kenmare. He served on the Lakeview Township Board for many years, was a trustee of the First Baptist Church, Kenmare, and enjoyed working at the Kenmare Baptist Home during his retirement.
He was an avid gardener and woodworker and enjoyed hunting, fishing and camping with his family. He was a member of First Baptist Church, Kenmare, and attended the United Methodist Church, Sherwood.
Survivors: wife, Irene; Sons, Robert Reischke, Minot, Kenneth Reischke and his wife Virgene, Glen Ewen, Sask; daughter, Caroline Derry and her husband James, Kenmare, ND; four grandchildren, Kenton Reischke, Glen Ewen, Sask., Korena Merkley, Glen Ewen, Sask., Eric Derry, Thompson, ND, Sarah Martian, Scranton, ND; 6 great grandchildren; sisters, Stella Harmon, Salem, OR, Luella Rytter, Salem, OR, Eveline Grosz and her husband Oscar, Yakima, WA, Luella Radovich, Lynnwood, WA. He was preceded in death by his biological parents, his adoptive parents, sisters Erma Reischke, Sylvia Auch, Hazel Thompson, Vera Olson, Erma Sturdivant, Lola Bolko and Opal Massey; brothers, G. Earl, Lewis, Roy, Lyle, Donald and Russell Taylor.
Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, November 4, 2000, at 2 p.m. at Grace Christian Fellowship formerly First Baptist Church, Kenmare.
Visitation will be one-hour prior to the service.
Burial will take place at Rosehill Cemetery, rural Norma at 4:30 p.m. on Saturday.

Todd A. Richards, 37, 431 North Star Mobile Court, Minot, died Monday, October 30, 2000 in his home.
He was born March 20, 1963 in Minot, ND the son of Floyd and Vanetta (Springsted) Richards. He was raised in Minot and attended Minot State University. He worked at various jobs in North Dakota, Montana and Arizona before becoming disabled. He has since lived in Minot.
Survivors: mother, Vanetta Rosenberg, Minot; brothers, Doug Richards and Jeff Richards, both of Minot; sister, Sue Benson, West Fargo, ND; several nieces and nephews also survive. He was preceded in death by his father, Floyd Richards.

Doris Rohrabacher - - 1917 - 2000
Doris Rohrabacher, 83, Huntington Beach, Ca, formerly of Minot, ND, died Monday, December 4, 2000 in Costa Mesa, Calif.
She was born on February 11, 1917 in Cayuga, ND, one of seven children of Mr. And Mrs. Joe Haring. She was reared and educated in the Cayuga area, on her father's farm. She was working in Bismarck, ND, when she met her husband, Donald Rohrabacher, and they were married on May 9, 1942 in Washington, DC. Her husband then entered the US Marine Corps and she lived with him in various bases throughout the US and World. While living at the various bases, she became very active in various volunteer activities, including hospitals and libraries. Her husband retired from active duty in 1963 as a Colonel, they moved to Temecula, California in 1976. She became very active in Republican Politics and started the Republican women's club in Temecula. In that area of California, she was known as "The Grand Old Lady of the Party". In 1995, she was named by the California Legislature as Woman Of The Year in the Temecula area. Her husband died on October 22, 1998 and she continued to live in Temecula until moving to Huntington Beach, California several months ago.
She was a member of the Temecula Valley Community Church, the Friends of the Libraries and was a Grey Lady in the Temecula Area.
Survivors: sons, Congressman Dana Rohrabacher and his wife, Rhonda, Huntington Beach, CA, and Kim Rohrabacher, Whittier, CA; four sisters, Myrtle Durie, Everett, WA, Jean Underhill, Madison, WI, Jennes Kragness, Fargo, ND, Ollie Warzeka, St. Bonifacius, Mn. Salvida Emarion Rostad - - 1909 - 2001
Salvida Emarion Rostad, 91, Carpio, died Monday, April 9, 2001, in a Bismarck hospital.
Salvida was born August 2, 1909, in Carpio, ND, the daughter of Engvald and Sophie (Johanson) Pederson. She was raised in that area and attended Rostad Country School and Carpio High School.
She married Halvor O. Rostad in 1928 in Minot. The couple lived and farmed their entire lives in the Carpio area. In 1975 they retired and moved into Carpio. Halvor died in August of 1981. Salvida continued to live in Carpio until the time of her death.
Salvida was a member of Carpio Lutheran Church and the Birthday Club, both Carpio. She loved quilting, crocheting and did a lot of craft work.

She was born February 2, 1931, on the family farmstead near rural Niobe, the daughter of Aden and Edith (Hedstrup) Nelson. Marilynn's mother died in 1936, the day before her fifth birthday. She then went to live with her grandparents until she was 11 years old, when she moved in with her father, stepmother, Florence and brothers on the family farm. She did her part helping on the farm by cooking and sewing. In her spare time she enjoyed participating in the local 4-H club and playing piano.
When Marilynn was 18 she attended Minot State Teachers College and became a teacher at a one-room schoolhouse in Clayton Township. She married Roland E. Ross on May 26, 1953, at Kenmare and the couple lived and farmed in Ward Township, Burke County, near Bowbells. She poured her heart into her family and work by preparing meals, laundry, gardening, sewing, and participating in the church choir. Her son Thomas Ross died in 1975 at age 14.
Roland passed away on October 12, 1993, in Kenmare. Marilynn moved to Minot in 1998, and spent her winters in Mesa, AZ.
Marilynn enjoyed listening to music, playing the piano, singing and spending time with her family. She passed on her love of music to her children and grandchildren. Recently she entertained the seniors at Edgewood Vista, playing the piano.
She was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Bowbells. She served on the altar society at the church, led in the prayer of the rosary and participated in various community musical events

James A. Samson - - 1939 - 2001
James A. Samson, 61, 5110 Hwy 2 E, Minot, ND, died Friday, February 16, 2001, in a Minot medical center, due to illness.
He was born on October 17, 1939, in Minot, ND, the son of Mindy and Vera (Nienow) Samson. As a youngster, he had a newspaper stand and sold pop and candy. He attended grade school in Minot, and graduated from Minot High School in 1958. He worked for the Minneapolis Tribune delivering papers during his high school years. In 1960, he started Wee Haul Trucking and Sanitation Service in Minot. He owned and operated the business in the Minot area for 30 years. He then worked for B and F Salvage, Velva, ND, as a truck driver until the time of his recent retirement due to ill health. He was once married to Carol Peterson of Minot.
He attended Zion Lutheran Church, Minot. He was a member and two-time president of the Fraternal Order of the Eagle's Aerie #2376,in Minot, and the Minot Moose Lodge.
He loved to camp and fish with his family, and spending time with his grandchildren. He also loved playing cards with his longtime friend, Dennis Sjol.
Survivors: son, Kelly Samson and his wife, Shannon, Minot; daughters, Michele Michlitsch and her husband, Tony, Mandan, and DeeAnn Mertz and her husband Rodlen, Sawyer; eight grandchildren, Nichole Mosbrucker, Corey Mertz, Kayla Mertz, Amy Klein, Karmin Klein, Katelyn Mertz, Matthew Samson and Jorden Michlitsch; one great grandchild, Camerean Mosbrucker; sister, Sharon Tofteland and her husband, Jerry, Minot; nieces, Candy Demchuk, Bismarck and Wendy Kinn, Minot. Jerome A. Sandberg - - 1945 - 2000
Jerome A. Sandberg, 54, Lignite, ND, died Friday, July 28, 2000, at his home of natural causes.
Jerome was born on August 10, 1945, in Crosby, ND, the son of Richard and Lillian (Monson) Sandberg. He was raised in Lignite, ND and graduated from Lignite High School in 1963. He attended Minot State College before volunteering for the United States Marine Corps. He entered into the service on September 23, 1965, and served one term in Vietnam. He achieved the individual high expert marksmanship medal for his platoon. While being stationed in Vietnam he was interviewed by John Williams of KCJB/KXMC which was broadcast across North Dakota. He was discharged on September 22, 1967.
On July 19, 1969, he married Nadine Ljunggren in Lignite, ND. They lived in Lignite and raised one daughter, Nicole Amy, born December 3, 1975.
He was employed at Sandberg Redi-Mix, Inc. in Lignite. In 1974, he became the company's manager and part-owner. He was very dedicated to his work, and successfully built the business into what it is today.
He was a member of Christ Lutheran Church in Lignite and had served on the church council. He was a member of the Monson-Finkenhagen American Legion Post #35, the Burke County Fair Board, and served on the Gateway Cities Golf Course Board in Portal, ND. He was very active in decorating the Lignite City Park for Christmas and installing playground equipment. He was presented the Outstanding Community Achievement Award in 1979 signed by the President of the United States, Jimmy Carter. He had a special love for children. He was a loving husband, father, son, brother, cousin, and friend. He had many acquaintances all over the United States and Canada. He had a love for racing, and drag raced in the U.S. and Canada following his discharge from the United States Marine Corps. He was a Nascar fan and liked to watch the races on television.

Donovan J. Sanders - - 1898 - 2000
Donovan J. Sanders, 101, 2405 Academy Road, Minot, died Saturday, June 10, 2000 in a Minot Nursing Home.
He was born on June 27, 1898 in Grand Meadow, Minnesota, the son of John R. and Elizabeth (Peterson) Sanders. They moved to Waterford Township, Ward County in 1902, where the family homesteaded. Donovan was reared and educated in Waterford Township, attending Waterford Township schools. He worked on his parents farm and after his marriage to Gertrude Taul on June 25, 1924, farmed in Waterford and St. Mary's Townships. During the 1930's, he worked for the WPA, building roads in Waterford Township. They moved into Minot in 1949, and continued to farm until retiring in 1976. Gertrude preceded him in death on May 10, 1972. He married Ione Rooks on May 13, 1976 in Minot and she preceded him in death on February 12, 1988.
He was a member of St. Mark's Lutheran Church, Minot. He was also a member of the Waterford Township Farmers Union, was a Waterford Township supervisor and a member of the Golden K Kiwanis and the Loyal Order of Moose.
Survivors: sons, Jerry Sanders and his wife, Joan, Minot, Elden Sanders and his wife, Darlene, Minot, and Larry Sanders and his wife, Sandy, Minot; daughters, Meredith Mathwich, Minot and Montez Nett and her husband, Joe, Foxholm; 33 grandchildren, 72 great grandchildren and four great-great grandchildren; sister, Inez Boyd, Flint, Michigan. Clement Sandhofner - - 1931 - 2000
Clement Sandhofner, 69, #9 Wallace St, Burlington, ND, died Saturday, December 2, 2000, in his home.
He was born November 23, 1931 in Garrison, ND, the son of John and Cristine (Kowarsch) Sandhofner. He was raised on the family farm and attended country school. He graduated from Butte High School in 1949. After graduation he entered the US Army on November 282, 1951, and served in the Korean War for two years. He was honorably discharged from the Army October 29, 1953. He returned to ND, and attended North Dakota State School of Science, Wahpeton, ND for two years for mechanics. He then operated the family farm with his brother for several years. He also worked for Velva Implement and Minot Ready Mix for many years. He married LaVon Keentz on September 18, 1965 at Balfour ND. He then went to work for Minot Sand and Gravel, which later became Fisher Industries until he retired in 1998 do to ill health.
He was a member of St. John the Apostle Catholic Church, Minot and the American Legion Post #270, Butte. He was a former member of Holy Ghost Catholic Church, Butte.

Marlin E. Sather - - 1933 - 2000
Marlin E. Sather, 67, 8010 County Road 15 West, Minot, ND, died Saturday, October 21, 2000, in his home.
Marlin was born February 8, 1933, in North Prairie Township, McHenry County, near Velva, ND, the son of Martin and Eleanor (Pretzer) Sather. He was raised in that area and attended school in Velva.
He entered the United States Army on March 4, 1953, and served in the 18th Infantry Regiment, A Company, during the Korean Conflict. While in the service, he earned his GED, and was honorably discharged on February 28, 1955. Following his discharge he returned to North Dakota. On July 14, 1957, he married Carole Elliott in Tuttle, ND. He worked for Struksnes Construction Company. Marlin was then employed as manager of the Farmers Union Elevator in Velva and Willow City, ND. He worked at the Vix and Truax Coal Mines, near Velva. He also worked for Watne Farms as a farm laborer. Marlin worked for Bechtold Excavating and Lindemann Construction for many years building roads. He had recently been employed by Municipal Services, Inc., of Sawyer, and was working there until the time of his illness.
Marlin was a member of Oak Valley Lutheran Church, Velva, and the American Legion, Joseph I. Weller Post #39, Velva, ND. He was once a member of the Eagles Aerie, Minot, ND.
