Charles E. Wenman
Charles E. Wenman, 72, Buena Vista, died in Penrose Hospital, Colorado Springs Dec. 9, 2003.
He was born May 29, 1931, in Gunnison to Alice G. and Marion G. Wenman.
He is survived by his wife, Marjorie “Beth” Wenman, Buena Vista; son, Dale Wenman, Buena Vista; daughter, Patricia Casey, Buena Vista; son, Michael L. Wenman, Spring Valley, Calif.; daughter, Margaret “Lorrie” Ingersoll, Glendale, Ariz.; grandsons, Douglas, Christopher and Thomas; granddaughters, Kaylen, Kristin, Dannielle, Jamie and Michelle; brother, David Wenman, Meridian, Idaho; nephews, Richard Wenman, Sacramento, Calif. and Kenneth Wenman, McCall, Idaho; son-in-law, Timothy Casey, Buena Vista and daughter-in-law, Sandy Wenman, Spring Valley, Calif.
Services will be held at 9 a.m. today at Runyan Mortuary, Buena Vista and interment will be in Twin Lakes Cemetery.

Clara DeBlock Woolmington
Clara DeBlock Woolmington died Dec. 5, 2003, at Memorial Hospital in Colorado Springs.
She was born in Midland Park, N.J. Dec. 16, 1920.
Her father was in the plumbing and heating business until the family moved to Goshen, N.Y. in 1931, where he began a lifetime in dairy farming.
She graduated from Chester High School near Goshen in 1937 and attended Wheaton College, Wheaton, Ill., where she met her husband, Parker Woolmington.
Clara and Parker were married on May 30, 1941, in Wheaton, just days after her graduation.
They lived briefly in Narberth, Pa., where their daughter, Sue, was born. With World War II influencing everyone, Parker joined the Army and they moved to Shepherd Field, Texas, where their daughter, Betsy, was born.
After the war, the couple settled in Narberth, where Parker was in the catering business.
They became involved in Christian camping and spent a portion of their summers at Camp Winnepasaukie in New Hampshire.
In 1951 their son, John, was born and the family moved to Nathrop, where they had a position with Young Life at Frontier Ranch.
They moved in 1953 to nearby Silver Cliff Ranch and in the fall of 1954, began their dream – Deer Valley Ranch – with the idea of building a Christian family guest ranch.
Their son, Bob, was born in 1956 and the family was instrumental in developing Deer Valley through the next 25 years.
The couple became involved in the local community, particularly through First Baptist Church of Buena Vista. Clara was a Sunday school teacher for many years and was a deaconess.
She was known as someone who would encourage, support and offer a kind thought and word for all around her. She attended all the games as her children and grandchildren played for their various school teams.
At Deer Valley she did all the cooking in the early years and most of the office work, bookkeeping and everything else necessary to raise a family and run a ranch.
Following retirement in 1978, they continued to live at Deer Valley while spending most of the winter in South Padre Island, Texas.
Mrs. Woolmington is survived by her husband, Parker Woolmington; children, Sue DeWalt (Harold), Nathrop; Betsy Thompson, Denver; John Wool-mington (Carol), Nathrop and Bob Woolmington (Sharon), Buena Vista; grandchildren, Scott DeWalt (Athena), Peyton; James Thompson (Michele), Denver; Brock DeWalt (Brenda), Nathrop; Matt Thompson (Jennifer), Denver; Reid DeWalt (Brenda), Colorado Springs; Rebecca Woolmington, Dallas, Texas; Jessica Woolmington, Buena Vista; Lindsey Woolmington, Nathrop; Jonathan Woolmington, Nathrop and Taylor Woolmington, Buena Vista; great-grandchildren, Levi and Halley DeWalt, Nathrop; Jayce DeWalt, Peyton; Parker Thompson, Denver and Rachel De-Walt, Colorado Springs; brother, Sid DeBlock (Phoebe), Blairs-town, N.J. and sister, Anna of Jacksonville, Fla.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at First Baptist Church of Buena Vista.
In lieu of flowers, gifts may be given in Clara’s name to a charitable giving fund that was established at the couple’s 50th wedding anniversary. These can be sent to Deer Valley Ranch, Nathrop, CO 81236.

William Henry (Bill) Caines
William Henry (Bill) Caines, 74, of Lake Jackson, Texas, died Dec. 8, 2003, at home surrounded by his family and loved ones.
Mr. Caines is survived by his wife of 52 years, Doris; son, Rick Caines and wife Terri; daughter, Susan Martin and husband Dick; brothers, Edward Caines and Johnny Caines; sisters, Dixie Sarver and husband Buddy; Grace Thorpe and Nancy Berger and husband Ron and four grandchildren, Staci Martin, William Caines, Jody Caines and Bobby Caines.
Mr. Caines was born Feb. 28, 1929, in Olyphant, Penn., to John and Margaret Caines. After high school graduation he enlisted in the Army and served two years before entering Virginia Tech University where he earned a master’s degree in chemical engineering.
During his master’s degree work he married Doris.
Upon graduation, Mr. Caines was hired by Dow Chemical, where he worked for 32 years in the chlor-alkali department. He served in many roles, but is most remembered for his work as tech center leader where he helped drive many technological improvements in the area of chlorine/caustic production.
Mr. Caines retired in 1986 and moved to the Colorado mountains near Salida, built a log cabin and lived his dream for seven years before returning to the Lake Jackson area to be near family.
He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Salida and Lake Jackson, Texas. Bill loved his family and was very proud of his grandchildren.
The Caines family sends sincere appreciation to Jan Wiseman,, who was his personal nurse for the last 10 months of his life. Her skills helped make Bill’s last months special.
Funeral services are set for 2 p.m. today at the First Presbyterian Church in Lake Jackson, with burial in Restwood Memorial Cemetery. The family received friends Thursday at the Lakewood Chapel.
Pallbearers will be Ken Evans, Ollie Hux, Bill Rouse, John Lastovica, Buddy Sarver and Jerry Boyett. Honorary Pallbearers will be Howard Brock, John Myers, Lionell Fourrier, Stan Ross and Matt Williams.

Dorothy M. Oxford
Dorothy M. Oxford, 89, Salida, died Dec. 9, 2003, at Heart of the Rockies Regional Medical Center in Salida.
She was born July 1, 1914, to Archie L. and Bertha Freda (Hoffman) Hambidge, in Gosper County, Arapahoe, Neb.
Mrs. Oxford graduated from Arapahoe High School in 1931 and attended two years at Kearney State Teachers’ College, Kearney, Neb. She taught in country schools for four or five years.
Mrs. Oxford later worked for Gates Rubber Co. in Denver before moving to Monte Vista in the San Luis Valley where she was employed by a Chevrolet dealer.
She met Delbert G. Oxford in Arapahoe, Neb., where he and his parents were operating a grocery store, Oxford’s Market.
They married in Denver on Nov. 11, 1939. Craig was their first home – then Lyons, where they and Del’s parents operated another Oxford’s Market.
A girl, Janet Lee, was born on Aug. 6, 1940, but lived only an hour.
They returned to Beaver City, Neb., in the fall of 1940 where they owned and operated Horton’s Amusement Park, but during World War II they moved to Los Angeles, Calif., where Del worked at Lockheed Aircraft.
In 1946 they located in Alma, where they bought their last Oxford’s Market. Five years later they sold it and went into ranching and real estate.
Eventually, they sold their land and in 1980, bought a retirement home in Salida. They were married 61 years in 2000.
Preceding her in death were her daughter, Janet Lee and husband, Del.
Surviving are brother, Donald (Carol Cross) Hambidge, Arapahoe, Neb.; sister, Dol-ores (Hambidge) Dodson and husband, Allan, Nathrop and several nephews, nieces and friends.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to noon and from 1-4 p.m. today at Lewis and Glenn Funeral Home. Services will be at noon Saturday at Lewis and Glenn Funeral Home.
Those who wish may make memorial contributions to the Ark-Valley Humane Society through Lewis and Glenn Funeral Home.
Arrangements are with Lewis and Glenn Funeral Home.

Addie King
Addie King, 78, Buena Vista, died in her home Dec. 8, 2003.
She was born March 11, 1925, in Hiawassee, Ga., to Frank and Violet Denton. Mrs. King was 6 years old when she moved to Greeley where she attended school.
At the age of 19 she moved to Denver and worked for Blue Cross and Blue Shield for 15 years.
She married Wallace N. King Dec. 5, 1954, in Denver and they had two girls, Nancy and Carrie. Mrs. King was a homemaker most of her life.
Mrs. King is survived by her husband, Wallace, of Buena Vista; daughters Nancy (John) Cable, Rolla, Mo.; Carrie (Martin) McDowel, Florence; and sister Bertha Bannock, Kansas City, Mo.; five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her sister, Vesta Nnihizer and brother Robert Denton.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the First Baptist Church, Buena Vista. Interment will be in Mount Olivet Cemetery.
Donations may be made to Angel of Shavano Hospice. Arrangements are by Runyan Mortuary.

Elizabeth Lorraine Floryancic
Elizabeth Lorraine Floryancic, 89, died Dec. 13, 2003, at Heart of the Rockies Regional Medical Center.
Mrs. Floryancic was born Sept. 2, 1914, in Cañon City, to John Parko and Johannah (Mishmash) Parko.
She had lived in Salida since 1932.
She was united in marriage to Adolph Floryancic on July 12, 1933 in Salida.
Mrs. Floryancic was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church. She loved the Broncos, baseball, bingo, music and dancing.
She was preceded in death by her parents and husband, Adolph.
Mrs. Floryancic is survived by son, Sonny Floryancic, Salida; daughter, Barbara (Jerry) Henderson, Salida; sisters, Mary (Robert) Winslow, Denver and Caroline Sheehan, Brownsboro, Ala.; eight grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.
Visitation is scheduled from 9 a.m. to noon and from 1-4 p.m. Wednesday at Lewis and Glenn Funeral Home. Mass of the Christian Burial is scheduled for 2 p.m. Thursday at St. Joseph Catholic Church.
Interment will follow at Fairview Cemetery.
A luncheon will be served prior to service at noon at St. Joseph Great Hall.
Those who wish may make memorial contributions to either The Grainery or Helping Hands through Lewis and Glenn.
Arrangements are with Lewis and Glenn Funeral Home.

Elizabeth Lorraine Floryancic : Funeral Notice
Mass of the Christian Burial for Elizabeth Lorraine Floryancic was held at 2 p.m. Thursday at St. Joseph Catholic Church.
Fr. Henry Grodecki C.M., officiated. Organist was Di Ann Bourget and soloist was Tami Ball.
Musical selections were “Amazing Grace,” “The Old Rugged Cross,” “In The Garden” and “On Eagles’ Wings.”
Pallbearers were Danny Ashley, Doug Bess, Adam Ashley, Scott Ashley, Edie Ashley and Amanda Collins.
Honorary pallbearers were Andy Michlich, Jerry Henderson, Kevin Thonhoff, Tom Hemmings, Jack Ashley and Jim Ashley.
Arrangements were with Lewis and Glenn Funeral Home.

Gloria May Mattox
Gloria May (Spezze) Mattox, 46, died Dec. 13, 2003.
She was born Dec. 29, 1956, in Box Butte County, Neb., a daughter of Leroy Mattox and the late Charlotte (Twoteeth) Mattox.
She was employed by Village Inn in Cañon City and was a member of the Catholic church.
She loved dancing, doing arts, crafts, and working on scrapbooks. Her greatest love was spending time with her family.
She is survived by her father, Leroy of Buena Vista; daughter, April (James) Berger of Longmont; sons, Zach Spezze, Gunnison and Jesse Sleator, Cañon City; grandchildren, Cameron, Maisie, and Alex and sisters, Marie Steinmetz, Wyoming and Margaret Mattox, Trinidad.
She was preceded in death by her mother.
A funeral mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. today at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Buena Vista, with Rev. Bill Rhinehart officiating. Interment will follow in Buena Vista Cemetery.
Memorial donations may be made to the Gloria Mattox Memorial Fund c/o Cañon National Bank, 816 Royal Gorge Blvd, Cañon City, CO 81212.
Services are entrusted to Holt Family Funeral Home in Cañon City.

Mahamalea Fairchild
Mahamalea Fairchild, 92, died Dec. 14, 2003, at Heart of the Rockies Regional Medical Center in Salida.
She was born on Oct. 29, 1911, in Winnsboro, La. Her parents were the late Thomas C. and Kallie M. (Ashley) Nielsen.
Mrs. Fairchild went to school in Winnsboro, and on July 10, 1927, married Grover Cleveland Fairchild. Together, the Fairchilds had eight children and parenting and homemaking became her full-time job, in addition to farming.
They moved to Leadville in 1951 where Grover worked at the Climax Molybdenum Mine for 19 years until his retirement.
Mrs. Fairchild loved working in the garden. She and Grover raised wonderful vegetable crops and beautiful flowers. She was never happier than when she could be digging dandelions with her butcher knife and doing yard work.
She was an accomplished seamstress. She could look at clothing in a catalog, make her own pattern, then sew it. Many Leadville and Salida people wore clothing custom-made by Mahamalea Fairchild.
She was a wonderful cook, who never had a recipe, but knew how to put things to-gether.
She was preceded in death by her parents; nine siblings; her husband, Grover, who died in 1981; son, Loyd Ray Fairchild; granddaughter, Bonnie Fairchild and great-granddaughter, Amy Sue Fairchild.
Mrs. Fairchild is survived by sons, G.C. (Laura May) Fairchild, San Manual, Ariz. and Benny (Janis) Fairchild and Tommy (Mary) Fairchild, both of Grand Junction; daughters, Jackie (Larry) Kern, Aztec, N.M.; Dot Marble, Salida; Billie (Jerry) Bollig, Henderson, Nev. and Carolyn (Bill) Wilson, Grand Junction; brothers, Otha (Gloria) Niel-sen, Del Hi, La.; Shirley (Mary) Nielsen, Rayville, La. and Willie Nielsen, Epps, La.; 31 grandchildren and numerous great- and great-great-grandchildren.
She was laid to rest Tuesday beside her husband in Elk’s Rest Cemetery in Lead-ville, with memorial services following the interment at 11 a.m. at Bailey Funeral Home Chapel, Leadville.
Pastor Russell Baker officiated and Joan Dawson sang, accompanied by Neil V. Reynolds.
Pallbearers were Terry and Kenny Fairchild, Dale Wilson, John Lacy and Mark and David Bollig.
Arrangements were handled by Bailey Funeral Home, Leadville.

Alta M. Cunningham
Alta M. Cunningham, formerly of Colorado Springs, died Dec. 20, 2003, in Salida.
Mrs. Cunningham was born Jan. 5, 1903, near Wayland, Iowa, to Menno S. and Mary E. (Oswald) Freyenberger.
She moved to Colorado Springs in 1924 and married Gay Cunningham on April 19, 1930.
She was a charter member of Good Shepherd United Methodist Church.
In 1972 she retired from civil service and then worked as a secretary at Good Shepherd until 1975. Mrs. Cunningham took care of the rose garden at the church for many years.
She had lots of flowers at her home and loved the outdoors. She loved crocheting, quilting and needle work.
Survivors include a daughter, Marigay Allen and her husband, James P. Allen, Salida; grandsons, Brian Allen and Kevin Allen, Colorado Springs and Timothy Allen, Salida; sister, Lulu Roth, Wayland, Iowa and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Menno and Mary Freyenberger; husband, Gay Cunningham; son, Charles Cunningham; sister, Ada Wyse and brothers, Edwin and Ezra Freyenberger.
Visitation is from 9-10 a.m. today and the funeral will follow at Good Shepherd United Methodist Church, 1201 Leta Drive, Colorado Springs. Burial will be at Memorial Gardens.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Good Shepherd United Methodist Church, 1201 Leta Drive, Colorado Springs, CO 80911-1155.

Geraldine (Gerri) A. Jacobs
Geraldine (Gerri) A. Jacobs, 87, Salida, died Dec. 21, 2003, at Columbine Manor Nursing Home.
Mrs. Jacobs was born Dec. 21, 1916, in Bonanza, to Logan and Kathryn Mullins.
She was a lifetime Salida resident.
She worked as a cook for Salida High School and the hospital for many years. She loved caring for people.
Mrs. Jacobs was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Francis Arthur Jacobs; sisters, Edna Beck and Margaret Fletcher.
She is survived by sons, Ken Jacobs, Arvada; Ed (Claudia) Jacobs, Texas and Jim (Cheryl) Jacobs and six grandchildren.
Recitation of the Holy Rosary is scheduled for 2 p.m. Friday at Lewis and Glenn Funeral Home. Funeral services will follow at 2:30 p.m. Interment will be in Fairview Cemetery.

Minnie George (Georgie) New
Minnie George (Georgie) New, died Dec. 21, 2003, at her home after a long illness.
She was born to Fred and Carrie Hedgecoke on May 23, 1926, in Endie, N.M.
Mrs. New is survived by her husband, Russell New; sisters, Sue (Zan) Shultz and Marie Hedgecoke; son, Charles (Marlene) Thayer; daughter, Ellen (Dan) Lewallen; son, John (Denise) New; son, Doug (Cheri) New; eight grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and in-laws.
She was an avid reader. She enjoyed canning, gardening, hunting arrowheads and sewing.
There will be a memorial service at 1 p.m. Jan. 4, 2004, at the home of John and Denise New, 333 Hunt St., Salida.
Arrangements are with Lewis and Glenn Funeral Home.

Jeanne L. Hussey DeAngelo
Jeanne L. Hussey DeAngelo, 75, died Dec. 20, 2003, at her residence in Coaldale.
She was born Oct. 6, 1928, in Chicago, Ill., to James Edward and Marie Elizabeth (Nugent) Linn.
Mrs. DeAngelo was a resident of Coaldale for 11 years, moving from Lake Havasu, Ariz.
She and Mark DeAngelo were married for nine years.
Mrs. DeAngelo owned the Stout Creek Ranch in Howard.
She loved her children, grandchildren, animals and auctions.
Mrs. DeAngelo ran the café at the sale barn for three years.
She was preceded in death by her parents and husband, Mark DeAngelo.
Mrs. DeAngelo is survived by her sons, Jim (Terry) Peterson, Lake Havasu, Ariz.; Timothy (Nina) Peterson, Poway, Calif., Garry Hussey Sr., Coaldale and John (Amy) Hussey, Moffat; daughters, Karen (David) Vigil, Reno, Nev.; Colleen (Luis) Jaramillo, Howard and Kelly Alexander, Portsmouth, Ohio; daughter-in-law, Theresa Hussey; grandchildren, Garry Hussey Jr., Christina (Ben) Adair, Amy Vigil, Veronica Jaramillo, Shawn Hussey, Tori Hussey, Jennifer (Chris) Abbott, Michael Peterson, Keaton Alexander, Bailey Alexander, Sydney Alexander and great-grandchildren, Christian Travis Hussey and Benjamin Adair IV.
Memorial services are set for 1 p.m. Saturday at the Mountain Valley Church in Howard.
