Ida Velma Schneider
Ida Velma Schneider, 94, longtime Salida resident, died Aug. 11, 2004, at Columbine Manor Nursing Home in Salida.
She was born April 12, 1910, in Weatherford, Okla., to James Franklin and Maude (Casler) Clayton.
Mrs. Schneider worked for Samsonite Luggage Co. in Denver for 20 years.
She enjoyed playing poker and other card games in addition to getting together with her friends at the Salida Apartments. She was an excellent cook and her children and grandchildren were her life.
Mrs. Schneider was proceeded in death by her parents, first husband, Dan Tortorelli, and her second husband, Theodore Schneider.
She is survived by her sons, Danny Domnick (Dorothy) Schneider, Denver; David Lee (Gail) Tortorelli, Englewood; Rudy Douglas (Irene) Tortorelli, Salida and William Clayton of New Braunfels, Texas.
Other survivors are her daughter, Barbara Jean Tortorelli-McCoy, Salida; sister, Marjorie Waymoir, Nathrop; 12 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and seven great-great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 8 a.m. to noon Friday at Lewis and Glenn Funeral Home.
Services are set for 9 a.m. Saturday at Lewis and Glenn Funeral Home.
Interment will follow in the Howard Cemetery.
Friends who desire may make memorial contributions to Angel of Shavano Hospice or the American Cancer Society through Lewis and Glenn Funeral Home.

Terry D. Jimerson
Terry D. Jimerson, 40, of Buena Vista, died Sept. 13, 2004, at St. Anthony Hospital in Denver.
She was born in San Andreas, Calif., Jan. 25, 1964. She moved to Colorado at the age of 1 and subsequently graduated from Buena Vista High School in 1982. She married Mark Jimerson Sept. 19, 1982.
She lived in Gunnison for five years, but called Buena Vista home most of her life. She moved to Thornton in 2001 with her fiancé, John Fodge.
Ms. Jimerson was known as a wife, a mother, a sister and a friend. She worked at Dr. David Drake’s office, Dr. Huffer’s office, World Savings, Mountain Medical Clinic, People’s Bank and Key Bank.
She enjoyed spending time with her friends and family, Karaoke, music, ice skating, theater, charity work and spending time with her beloved animals.
Survivors are her daughter, Charisa Jimerson and son, Justin Jimerson, both of Nathrop; fiancé, John Fodge, Thornton; mother, Dorene “Dee” Berutto, Thornton; sister, Vicki Archer, Lodi, Calif.; brothers Wayne Stilwell, Lockford, Calif.; Dirk Stilwell, Tucson, Ariz. and Jim Stilwell, Colorado Springs; numerous nieces, nephews, friends and her dog, Jack.
She was preceded in death by her father, Frederick Larry Stilwell, Colorado Springs and her grandmother, Mable Moles.
Viewing will be from 7-9 p.m. today at Runyan Mortuary. The funeral service will be at 4 p.m. Saturday at Clearview Community Church in Buena Vista.
Interment will be at Mount Olivet Cemetery, Buena Vista.
Donations may be made to the Terry Jimerson memorial fund at People’s Bank or through Runyan Mortuary.

Mary R. Middleton
Mary R. Middleton, 89 of Salida, died Sept. 14, 2004, at Heart of the Rockies Regional Medical Center.
Mrs. Middleton was born Nov. 21, 1914, in Ennis, Texas, to Vern and Julia (Eason) Robinson.
She married Jack Middleton in 1936, in Waxahachie, Texas. Mrs. Middleton was a teacher for 25 years in Waxahachie and retired in 1978.
She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church and P.E.O. International.
She is survived by her husband, Jack Middleton, Salida; sons, Wayne (Sue) Middleton, Lafayette and Robert (Virginia) Middleton, Broomfield; daughter, Carolyn (David) Smith, Red Oak, Texas; sister, Frances Dodson of Alexandria, La.; three grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Sept. 17, 2004, at First Presbyterian Church in Salida.
Arrangements are with Lewis and Glenn Funeral Home.

George McManus
George McManus, 81, died Sept. 12, 2004, at Columbine Manor Nursing Home in Salida.
Mr. McManus was born May 14, 1923, in Salida to Hugh and Blanch (Farrell) McManus.
He was proceeded in death by his parents and his brothers and sisters. No services are planned. Interment will take place in Fairview Cemetery.
Arrangements are with Lewis and Glenn Funeral Home.

Wayne Earl Blossom
Wayne Earl Blossom, 83, former Buena Vista and Homelake resident, died Sept. 15, 2004, at Rio Grande Hospital in Del Norte.
Mr. Wayne was born Dec. 20, 1920, in Cedaredge, to Lawrence Blossom and Margaret Wetterick.
His first wife, Ruth Rule Blossom, preceded him in death in 1992. He married his second wife, Marjorie Anna Heye Kerstiens Aug. 10, 1994, in Chaffee County.
After working for many years for the Colorado Department of Corrections in Buena Vista, Mr. Blossom retired from the department. He served in the Navy during World War II and was stationed on the U.S.S. La Porte as a second class radio technician.
Mr. Blossom retired from the Buena Vista Volunteer Fire Department after 30 years of service. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post, Moose Lodge, Order of Cantons and International Order of Odd Fellows.
He enjoyed fishing and gardening, and loved to travel. Mr. Blossom enjoyed talking about his wartime experiences.
Survivors are his wife, Marjorie Anna Kerstiens-Blossom, Buena Vista; sons, Stanley L. “Larry” Blossom, and Gary (Judy) Blossom, both of Buena Vista; Ronald (Sherri) Blossom of Rock Springs, Wyo. and Donald (Shannon) Blossom of Buena Vista; sister, Hazel (Ernie) Fry, Buena Vista; step-children Lyle (Teresa) Kerstiens, Santa Fé, N.M.; and Verna (John) Gross, Buena Vista; 10 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, 6 step-grandchildren, and 4 step-great-grandchildren and numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.
His parents, first wife and one grandson preceded him in death.
Cremation was chosen and a memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Sept. 25, 2004, at the Oak Street Chapel in Buena Vista.
Interment will follow services in the Cedaredge cemetery. Contributions are suggested to the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post in Buena Vista.
Rogers Family Mortuary of Monte Vista is in charge of the arrangements.

Betty E. Shierlock
Betty E. Shierlock, 72, Nathrop, died Sept. 16, 2004, at Heart of the Rockies Regional Medical Center.

Mary Elizabeth (Veltrie) Johnson
Mary Elizabeth (Veltrie) Johnson, age 77, a life long resident of Salida, died Thursday, Sept. 30, 2004. Mary was born Sept. 5, 1927 in Salida to Ben and Amelia (Coster) Veltrie. She married Dan Johnson May 19, 1951 in Salida.
Mary was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church. She enjoyed sewing, cooking and her flowers.
She was preceded in death by her parents, brother Robert Veltrie and brother-in-law Leo "Bud" Cook.
Mary is survived by her husband Dan Johnson of Salida, sisters Pat Cook of Salida, Emma Bernhardt of Granite, sister-in-law Betty Veltrie of Salida, many nieces and nephews and grand-nieces and nephews.
At her request, memorial services will be held 10 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 6, 2004 at Lewis and Glenn Funeral Home. Interment of her cremains will follow at Fairview Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the St. Joseph Helping Hands or to St. Joseph Catholic Church. Arrangements are with Lewis and Glenn Funeral Home.

Ethelda Muller Munshower Sussman
Ethelda Muller Munshower Sussman, 88, Granite, died Sept. 27, 2004, at Heart of the Rockies Regional Medical Center.
She was born in Sea Isle City, N.J. She had lived in Marmora, N.J., and Clearwater, Fla., for seven years before moving to Granite, six years ago.
Mrs. Sussman worked as a senior central office clerk for N.J. Bell Telephone in Pleasantville, N.J. for 36 years before her retirement in 1972.
She was a member of the Mayflower Association, a descendant of John Howland who reached Plymouth Rock in 1620 and sired 11 children.
Mrs. Sussman was a member of Daughters of the American Revolution, past matron of Order of Eastern Star No.118, Sea Isle City, N.J., a member of O.E.S. No. 156, Cape May, N.J., a member of telephone pioneers, Atlantic City Council and a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, Marmora, N.J.
She is survived by a son, Larry Alan Munshower, Granite; a stepson, George F. Munshower, Penn.; a daughter-in-law, Nancy A. Munshower, Avalon, N.J.; four grandchildren, Michael Munshower and his wife Lisa; Karen Chubin and her husband Stephen; Thomas Munshower and his wife Susan and John Munshower and his wife Shauna; 11 great-grandchildren, Dylan Munshower, Rachael Chubin, Jacob Chubin, Jordan Chubin, Eva Munshower, Thomas Munshower, Vivian Munshower, Amanda Munshower, John Munshower, Joseph Munshower and Paul Munshower.
She was predeceased by a stepson, Ronald Munshower.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Oct. 2, 2004, at the Godfrey Funeral Home of Palermo, 644 South Shore road, Palermo, N.J., where friends may call from 10 a.m. until the time of service.
Burial will follow in Seaside Cemetery, Palermo, N.J.

Dorothy Lee Gabardi
Dorothy Lee Gabardi, 84, of Galena, Ohio, died Saturday at home.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Louis Gabardi. They were married 61 years.
She is survived by her daughter, Peggy (Jim) Kissel, Galena, Ohio; son, Larry (Mary Katherine) Gabardi, Little Rock, Ark.; sister Reba McGill, Oklahoma City and grandchildren Glen and Curtis Gabardi.
A memorial service was held at 11:30 a.m. Sept. 29, 2004, at Hill Funeral Home, 220 S. State St., Westerville, Ohio.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to the organ donation agency, Lifeline of Ohio, 770 Kinnear Rd., Columbus, OH 43212.

Mildred M. Wakley
Mildred M. Wakley, 67, Cañon City, died Sept. 22, 2004, in Cañon City.
Mrs. Wakley was born Dec. 4, 1936, in Greeley, to Hugh Matlock and Mildred Severens.
She was a homemaker and avid bowler who lived most of her life in Salida. She moved to Cañon City recently because of health problems.
Survivors include a son, Wayne (Becky) Wakley Jr., Cañon City; grandchildren Curtis Wakley, Stephen Wakley and Adam Wakley, all of Salida and Brittany Wakley, Cañon City; great-grandson, Benjamin Pitney; brother, Ken Matlock.
Immediate cremation was scheduled and no services are planned. Arrangements were with Wilson Funeral Home, Cañon City.

Rose M. Kroschel
Rose M. Kroschel, 87, Salida, died Sept. 25, 2004, at Columbine Manor Nursing Home in Salida.
Mrs. Kroschel was born April 3, 1917, in Ellis, Kan., to John Jacob Weber Weaver and Katherine Rosalia (Rumbach) Weaver
Mrs. Kroschel enjoyed gardening, being outdoors, cooking, spending time with her family and attending church at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Alamosa. Everyone knew her by her smile and beautiful blue eyes. She was loved by all who knew her.
She is survived by her sons, Curtis (Rosey) Kroschel, Rocky Mountain House, Alberta, Canada; Kenneth Kroschel, Longmont; Raymond (Ileen) Kroschel, Del Norte; Dale Kroschel, La Junta and Timmy Kroschel, Alamosa; daughters, Rella (Andy) Jones, Salida and Judy (Patrick) McCabe of Soldotna, Alaska.
Other survivors are stepsons, Norman (Wilma) Kroschel, Delta; Delbert (Connie) Kroschel, Montrose; brothers Rudolph (Wanda) Weaver, Olathe; Jack (Jessie) Weaver, Gunnison and sister, Frances Winger, Orange County, Calif.; favorite relative, Elsie Kroschel, Minnesota; 24 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren.
Viewing will be from 9-11 a.m. Oct. 2, 2004, at Holy Name of Mary Church in Del Norte. Services will begin at 11 a.m. Interment will follow at Del Norte Cemetery.
Arrangements are with Lewis and Glenn Funeral Home in Salida.

Abbie Sue Burns
Abbie Sue Burns, 71, died Sept. 25, 2004, at Heart of the Rockies Regional Medical Center in Salida.
Mrs. Burns was born Aug. 22, 1933, in Geary, Okla., to John L. and Sarah (Clark) Rash.
Mrs. Burns moved to Salida in 1964 from Burlington. She married James Burns on March 3, 1956, in Aztec, N.M. She graduated from Ouray High School in 1952.
She enjoyed painting, collecting angels and gardening. She especially liked watching her grandchildren play sports.
Mrs. Burns was preceded in death by her parents and brothers, Willis, Jessie, John Jr., Ted and James Rash.
She is survived by her husband, James Burns, Salida; daughter Raedell (Bob) Trueblood, Salida; sister Eveline Nance of El Reno, Okla.; grandchildren Adam Pierce, Britny Pierce, Matthew Trueblood and Chance Trueblood, all of Salida.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Sept. 29, 2004, at Lewis and Glenn Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, friends may make memorial contributions to the American Lung Association through Lewis and Glenn Funeral Home.

Abbie Sue Burns
Funeral services for Abbie Sue Burns were held at 10 a.m. Sept. 29, 2004, at Lewis and Glenn Funeral Home.
Fr. Henry Grodecki CM, officiated. Organist was Tommie Hughes and soloist was Jeanne Kostelic. Musical selections were, “Old Rugged Cross” and “How Great Thou Art.”
Pallbearers were Bob Trueblood, Adam Pierce, Doug Larson, Fred Jackson, Rex Riggenbach and Leon Stanton.
Honorary Pallbearers were Britny Pierce, Matthew Trueblood, Chance Trueblood, Hank Saucke and Louie Saucke. Gail Martinez read a poem Mrs. Burns had written.
Interment followed at Fairview Cemetery.
Arrangements were with Lewis and Glenn Funeral Home.

Aleen M. Carruthers
Aleen M. Carruthers, 92, of Denver, died Sept. 21, 2004.
She was born June 5, 1912, in Salida.
Mrs. Carruthers was active in civic organizations including being past president of Park People, advisory board member for the Rocky Mountain Lions Eye Institute, Medical Care and Research Foundation and the Parks and Recreation Advisory Board.
Her favorite hobby was garden railroading and she was past president of the Denver Garden Railway Society.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Douglas A. Carruthers.
Mrs. Carruthers is survived by three children, Edward Phillips, Sally Hooks and James Phillips; five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Burial service will be at 1 p. m. Sept. 26, 2004, at Church of the Ascension, Salida.
Memorials may be made in her name to Hospice of Metro Denver, 501 S. Cherry St., Suite 700, Denver, CO 80246.

Janet L. Lynchard
Janet L. Lynchard, 41, Salida, died Sept. 19, 2004, at Hospice of Metro Denver.
She was born in Salida, June 26, 1963. She is the daughter of Roger and Delores Evans and is survived by daughters, Alyssa Lynchard, 16, Villa Grove and Ashley Lynchard, 13, Salida; Sister, Pattie (Steve) Litzenberger, Aurora; nieces, Sarah (David) Richardson, Thornton and Katie Litzenberger, Fort Collins.
Janet was known as a daughter, mother, sister and friend. She owned and operated a beauty salon, “A Cut Above,” for several years. She recently worked as a flagger for Tezak Inc.
Janet enjoyed spending time with her family and lifetime friends, Tina Vigil, Debra Ross and countless others whom she loved dearly.
She loved growing up in the beautiful Colorado Rockies, camping and horseback riding as often as possible.
She also enjoyed swimming in the Arkansas River with her girls and their friends.
There will be a Memorial Mass of the Resurrection at S. Joseph Catholic Church at 11 a.m. Sept. 24, 2004.
Cash donations for her two children can be made through Roger and Delores Evans at 501 Maxwell, Salida CO 81201.

LaFern E. Bolton
LaFern E. Bolton, 85, Buena Vista, died Sept. 19, 2004, at the home of her son in Buena Vista.
She was born in Cushing, Okla., Feb. 19, 1919, to John and Allie (Annis) Moore and married John F. (Jack) Bolton July 3, 1947.
They lived in Stillwater, Okla., while Jack completed college and moved to Colorado in 1950. They lived at Climax until 1959 when they moved to Buena Vista.
She was predeceased by her husband in 1983.
Survivors include her son, John S. (Robbie) Bolton, Buena Vista; grandson, Christopher Andrew (Genee) Bolton, Cañon City; step-grandchildren Heidi Atha, Buena Vista; Michelle Cofer, Denver and Mark Cofer, Boise, Idaho; great-grandchildren Noel and Preston Bolton of Cañon City and several step-great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Bolton is also survived by two sisters, two brothers and one sister-in-law.
She was a housewife and mother who loved music, writing, gardening and her family.
Mrs. Bolton was involved for many years as soloist for Eastern Star and as a publicist for the Veterans of Foreign Wars Women’s Auxiliary and in later years enjoyed many hours of association and friendship with the Do-Nothing Club and Domino Club.
Viewing will be from 6-8 p.m today at Runyan Mortuary in Buena Vista.
Services will be held at the Congregational Church at 217 Crossman Ave. in Buena Vista at 10:30 a.m. Sept. 22, 2004, with a viewing just before services. Interment will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to Angel of Shavano Hospice.

Linda Crnic
Linda Crnic, Ph.D., 56 of Denver, a researcher in mental retardation, died in Oregon Sept. 11, 2004, after a fall from a bicycle.
When she died, Crnic was a professor of pediatrics and psychiatry, and director of the Colorado Mental Retardation and Developmental Disabilities Research Center at the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center.
She was internationally known for her research in Down syndrome and fragile X syndrome. Crnic worked with Down syndrome families, often traveling with them to Washington, D.C., to testify before Congress about more money for care and research.
She married Stan Wilks, a CPA, May 3, 1986, in Denver.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by her son, Michael Smith Wilks; sisters, Jacqueline Susmark, Lakewood and Janine Bisbee, Warren, N.J; and her brother, Brent Smith of Salida.

Patricia Lou Strosnider
Patricia Lou Strosnider, 70, a lifelong Colorado resident, died Nov. 23, 2004, at Heart of the Rockies Medical Center in Salida.
She was born Dec. 13, 1933 in Denver to Fern and Bus Carpenter.
Mrs. Strosnider and her husband of 51 years, Lester, moved to Coaldale in July 1998 from Broomfield. She was a member of Christian Women’s Club and Coaldale Valley Club.
Mrs. Strosnider will be remembered by the dignity and humor with which she lived after a crippling stroke nearly a decade earlier that left her unable to swallow or speak clearly.
She was inspirational in several stroke survivor groups, often commenting that her difficulty in communicating freed her to truly listen to people.
Survivors include her husband, Les, Coaldale; daughter, Debi Stone, Salida; son, David (Patty) Strosnider, Coaldale; grandchildren, Andrew and Tyler Strosnider, Coaldale; Mandee Stone, Cañon City and Tony (Chandra) Hornsby, Westminster and great-granddaughter, Magdalyn, Westminster.
Her father, mother, and brother, Keith, preceded her in death.
She attended Boulder High School and remained lifelong friends with many classmates.
Mrs. Strosnider will be cremated following a service in Denver. Local services will be held at 11 a.m. Dec. 1 at the Cotopaxi Community Church, 20326 U.S. 50.
Donations can be made to the Cotopaxi Church in her memory.
The family wants to thank the staff at Heart of the Rockies Regional Medical center for their exceptional care and sensitivity.

Allan E. Dodson
Allan E. Dodson, fifth child of 11 born to Charles W. and Etta G. Warner Dodson, was born May 20, 1930, in Gosper County, Neb. He passed away Nov. 22, 2004, at age 74.
Mr. Dodson grew up in rural Nebraska, attending country schools. At age 12 he went to work in agriculture. In January 1951, he enlisted in the Marine Corps and served in the Korean War, earning the rank of corporal.
After returning to his home town of Holdredge, Neb., he married Dolores M. Hambidge March 7, 1953.
They had two children, Arlan and Annette.
During the next 15 years, the family lived in Arapahoe, Neb., Fairplay and Holbrook, Neb. In 1969 they moved permanently to Colorado.
His occupations included a custom hay operation, ranching and becoming road and bridge administrator for Park County. In 1994, Mr. Dodson and his wife, Dolores, retired to Nathrop.
He is survived by his wife of 51 years, two children, son Arlan (Fran) Dodson and daughter, Annette (Ron) Knotts; five grandchildren, Brad, Patti, Travis, Caleb, Patience and three great-grandchildren, Nicole, Kane and Owen.
He was preceded in death by one sister and three brothers.
Viewing will be from 1-5 p.m. Friday at Lewis and Glenn Funeral Home.
Services are set for 11 a.m. Saturday at Lewis and Glenn Funeral Home.
Interment will follow in Fairview Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks friends who so desire to make memorial contributions to the Seeing Eye Foundation or the National Veterans Administration through Lewis and Glenn Funeral Home.

Betty N. Zindo
Betty N. Zindo, 78, died Nov. 21, 2004, at her home in Salida.
Mrs. Zindo was born July 6, 1926, in Stonewall, La., to John and Orelle (Parker) Nelson.
She enjoyed quilting, fishing and going to lunch once a month with her friends. She spent most of her life as a bookkeeper and moved to Salida seven years ago.
Mrs. Zindo was preceded in death by her parents and husband, Alex Zindo Jr.
Survivors are her daughters, Betsy (Bobby) Falcon, Labadiezille, La.; Martha (Leon) Fournet, Metairie, La. and Ann (Charles) Rice, Wake Forest, N.C.; 15 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
No local services are planned at this time.

Memorial services for Betty Zindo were held at 11 a.m. Jan. 3, 2005, at Lewis and Glenn Funeral Home.

Ann Elizabeth Shine
Mass of Christian Burial for Ann Elizabeth Shine was held at 10 a.m. Nov. 20, 2004, at St. Joseph Catholic Church.
Fr. Henry Grodecki CM officiated. Organist was Di Ann Bourget and soloist was Jennifer Hammond.

Interment followed at Fairview Cemetery. Arrangements were with Lewis and Glenn Funeral Home.
