Rachael Priestly
NORTHFIELD - Rachael Marie Priestly, 21, of Northfield died Saturday, August 2, 2003 in an automobile accident. She was born in Randolph, June 21, 1982, the daughter of Mark & Terri (Wright) Priestly. She is a graduate of Northfield High School, class of 2000.
Rachael was studying psychology at Norwich University in Northfield and would have started her junior year this Fall. She had been working this Summer at the Wal-Mart in Berlin.
She played soccer at Northfield High School, worked on the high school yearbook and was also on the yearbook committee at Norwich. She enjoyed needlecraft, loved her many pets, photography, drawing and travel.
Survivors include her father, Mark Priestly of Northfield; her mother, Terri Bell and stepfather, Barry of Northfield; her sister, Amanda Priestly of Burlington; her paternal grandfather, Robert Priestly and step grandmother, Justine of Martha's Vineyard; maternal grandparents, Harold & Janet Wright of Northfield; many aunts, uncles and cousins.
There are no calling hours. A graveside service will be conducted Wednesday, August 6, at 11 a.m. at Mount Hope Cemetery in Northfield. Donations may be made in her memory to the Washington County Mental Health Assoc., PO Box 647, Montpelier, VT 05601. Kingston Funeral Home in Northfield is handling the arrangements.

James Morgan
BARRE - Committal Services for James W. Morgan, of Marcell Avenue, who died July 31, 2003 at the Central Vermont Hospital in Berlin, were held Monday at 11:00 a.m. in the Hope Cemetery in Barre.
The Rev. Philip Chase, former interim pastor of the First Baptist Church of Barre, led the service. The Rev. Craig Thompson, current pastor of the church, led the congregation in prayer.
Bagpiper David Reid played numerous Scottish airs and sounded Taps. The flag was presented to his wife, Marion Morgan, by Bruce W. Judd.
Fellowship and luncheon followed at the home of his son and daughter in law, William and Dale Morgan.
The Hooker and Whitcomb Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Raymond Commeret
ORANGE CENTER - A memorial service for the Rev. Raymond E. Commeret, will be held at 2:30 p.m. Sunday at the Orange Alliance Church in Orange Center.

Eva Robinson
STRAFFORD - Eva R. Robinson, 89, died Aug. 4, 2003, at the Alice Peck Day Extended Care Facility in Lebanon, N.H., after a period of failing health.
She was born Nov. 20, 1913, in Freetown, Mass., the daughter of Carl and Carrie (Sherman) Royce.
She attended school in South Washington and graduated from Chelsea High School in Chelsea. She graduated from Castleton Teacher's College in 1932.
She married Elmer F. Robinson Aug. 4, 1935. They lived their married lives in Strafford. He died in 1992. She moved to the Alice Peck Extended Care Facility in 1996.
Mrs. Robinson taught school at the Robinson one-room schoolhouse in Strafford and later became a homemaker.
She was a member of the Sharon Congregational Church, the former Sharon Grange, the Strafford P.T.A. and was a 4-H leader in Strafford.
She enjoyed quilting, crossword puzzles, reading, sewing and staying close to her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Survivors include three sons, Stuart G. Robinson of Sharon, Daniel L. Robinson of Strafford and Carl R. Robinson of Barre; a daughter Betty R. Brown of Strafford; two sisters, Emma and Marian Royce, both of West Lebanon, N.H.; eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
A brother Christopher Royce and a sister Alice Royce are deceased.
A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday at the Sharon Congregational Church. The Rev. Betty Edson will officiate.
Burial will follow at the Robinson Cemetery in Strafford.
There are no public calling hours.

Sarah McNally Rites
BARRE - The funeral service for Sarah Evelyn McNally, who died Aug. 1, 2003, was held Monday at the Hooker and Whitcomb Funeral Home in Barre. The Rev. Herman Benjamin, pastor of the Hedding United Methodist Church in Barre, officiated.
Burial was at the Hope Cemetery in Barre.
Patrick McNally, Justin Parry and William Richardson, all grandsons, and Trevor Cayia, Jarryd Guinard and Matthew Guinard, all great-grandsons, were bearers.

MARSHFIELD - Charles R. Woliver, 73, of William Lyford Road, died Aug. 3, 2003, at the Dartmoth-Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, N.H.
Family and friends may call from 1 to 3 p.m. Thursday at the Pruneau-Polli Funeral Home in Barre.

Alice G. Converse, rites
CALAIS – A graveside service for Alice G. Converse, 92, who died Thursday, July 31, 2003, at the Mayo Healthcare in Northfield was held Sunday at 2 p.m. in the Robinson Cemetery in Calais. She was a former lifelong Calais resident. The Rev. Herman Benjamin, pastor of the Hedding United Methodist Church in Barre, officiated.
The Hooker and Whitcomb Funeral Home, 7 Academy Street, Barre was in charge of arrangements.

Alan Dale LaFountain
BERLIN – Alan Dale LaFountain, son of Nelson R. and Stella M. (Ashford) LaFountain of Berlin, Vt., died in a car accident in Glendale, California on July 22, 2003.
Born on August 3, 1946 in Barre, Vt., he attended Websterville and Montpelier schools. In 1961, he moved to California where he was employed by various area businesses before enlisting in the Army on August 17, 1965. He was assigned as driver of an armored personnel carrier, and held a position as a Scout and Radar Operator for Hq & Hq Troop, 3rd Squadron of the 4th Armored Calvary in Cu Chi, South Viet Nam. He was discharged at Ft. Bragg, No. Carolina on July 2, 1968.
He subsequently moved back to California where he worked with his father in the welding business before starting his own security systems business, A.D. LaFountain & Associates, Inc., in Glendale, which he had been operating with his half-brother, Larry LaFountain, at the time of his death.
Alan was a gifted musician, playing both keyboard and guitar, and composing many religious songs, some of which he taped and sent to his parents. He was also very active in his church where he served as a lay minister, and where he and a group of fellow parishioners sang and played for Sunday services. He composed many of the songs he sang in church.
Other interests were photography and the martial arts, where he had become an instructor in same. He had achieved a 2nd degree black belt in karate.
Alan’s greatest joy was derived from his music, his strong faith in his Lord and from the love of his daughter and grandson.
In addition to his parents, Alan is survived by his daughter, Christine Adams and her husband, Edward Adams, & grandson, Brandon Johnson, all of Clayton, No. Carolina; his half-brother, Larry LaFountain, Glendale, Calif.; two sisters, Sharon Hersey and her companion, Mason Whitcomb, of Waterbury Ctr., Vt., and Cheryl (Dee) Rupert and her husband, Robert, of Littleton, N.H.; numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews. He was pre-deceased by a brother, Nelson (Buzzy) LaFountain, Jr.
Memorial services were held July 28th at the Christian Community Center in Sunland, California with Pastor Ron Smedley officiating.
Reflections of Alan’s life were offered by his many friends and business associates.
Inurnment will be in Clayton, N.C. A memorial service will be held in Montpelier, Vt., at a later date. 

Bessie I. Lanpher
ST. ALBANS – Bessie I. Lanpher, 81, died August 2, 2003, in St. Albans.
She was born on Sept. 7, 1921, in Graysville, the daughter of Archie and Annie (Hill) Boutwell.
She attended Hancock, Barre and Randolph schools. She graduated from Randolph High School.
She married Floyd Lanpher in Morrisville on Feb. 3, 1940. She worked at Vermont Plywood, later known as Weyerhauser, until retiring in 1965.
She was a member of the Guin-town Senior Center in Hancock, the Moss Glen Grange #554 of Granville, the Women’s Society of the Hancock Community Church and the Golden Ages Club. She enjoyed dancing, sewing, reading, gardening and crafts.
Survivors include her husband of Hancock; three daughters, Janet Mayo of Bakersfield, Linda Reichart of Newport Center and Carol Allen of Bakersfield; a brother Frank Boutwell of Braintree; a sister Minnie Eaton of Hancock; seven grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by three brothers, Archie Boutwell, Donald Boutwell and Charles Boutwell; and two sisters, Emily Manning and Beatrice Bouchard.
Graveside services will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. at the Hancock Village Cemetery with Rev. Wayne Holfman officiating. There will be no calling hours. Arrangements are under the direction of the Day Funeral Home in Randolph.

Theresa M. McGuire
BARRE CITY – Theresa M. McGuire, 40, of 201 Hill Street, passed away Sunday, Aug. 3, 2003 at her home.
Born in Randolph on May 12, 1963, she was the daughter of Lawrence Rotta and Hazel (Adams) McGuire.
She attended Brandon Training School in Brandon, Vt.
In 1993 she moved to Barre and resided on 201 Hill Street.
She was a volunteer at Rowan Court Nursing Home in Barre.
She enjoyed country music.
Survivors include two brothers, Michael McGuire of Quechee, Vt. and Peter McGuire of Barnard; three sisters, Yvonne O’Keefe of Lebanon, N.H., Hazel Eastman of Hartford, Vt., and Debora Hull of Barnard; aunts, uncles, several nieces and nephews, and two great-nephews. She also leaves behind her special friend, Polly Farnsworth of Barre. She was predeceased by her parents.
A funeral service will be held on Tuesday at 11 a.m. at the Pruneau-Polli Funeral Home in Barre. The Rev. Peter Routhier, Pastor of St. Monica Church, and Kevin O’Riorden will officiate.
Family and friends may call at the Pruneau-Polli Funeral Home in Barre on Tuesday from 10 a.m. until the hour of the funeral. Burial will be in the Silver Lake Cemetery in Barnard.

Roderick B. McWhinney, rites
WEBSTERVILLE – A Celebration of Life was held on Friday, Aug. 1, 2003 at 1 p.m. at the Church of the Good Shepherd (Episcopal) in Barre, for Roderick B. McWhinney of 37 Church Hill Road, who passed away on July 28, 2003 at his home.
Vestry member Alban Ritchie officiated.
The Old Testament reading was given by Robert Quinlan III, a stepson, and the New Testament was read by Katie Quinlan, a stepdaughter.
The Prayers of the People was led by Jim Lauzon, a brother-in-law.
Organist Marjorie Strong accompanied the congregation in the hymns, “Christ the Victorious,” “Amazing Grace,” and “The King of Love My Shepherd Is.”
Active bearers were Tom Lauzon, Larry Tousignant, Larry Thompson, Claude Viens, Steve Washburn and Rassoul Rangaviz, all brothers-in-law.
Burial was in the Wilson Cemetery in Lower Websterville, where Alban Ritchie offered Committal Prayers.
Following the burial, a fellowship luncheon was held at Sean and Nora’s Restaurant in Barre.
Arrangements were in the care of the Pruneau-Polli Funeral Home, 58 Summer St., Barre, Vt. 

Leo J. Monahan
GRANITEVILLE – A prayer service was held Friday, Aug. 1, 2003 at 8:15 p.m. at the Pruneau-Polli Funeral Home, for Leo J. Monahan of Quarry Hill Apartments, who passed away July 29, 2003 at his home.
The Rev. Henry P. Furman, Parochial Vicar of St. Monica Church in Barre, officiated.
A later Memorial Service will be held at the convenience of the family.
Arrangements were in the care of Pruneau-Polli Funeral Home, 58 Summer Street, Barre, Vt.

James W. Morgan
BARRE CITY – James W. Morgan, 91, of Marcell Avenue, died Thursday, July 31, 2003 at the Central Vermont Medical Center in Berlin. He was born February 8, 1912, in Aber-deen, Scotland, son of William and Mary (Will) Morgan. He and his mother came to Barre to join his father as an infant. He attended Spaulding High School. He married Marion Thompson on June 17, 1946 in Barre. Since their marriage, they have resided in Barre. For 37 years he had worked for Green Mountain Power Corp., retiring as cashier of the Barre office. He enjoyed carpentry work, building his own home and maintaining his property. He also enjoyed fishing and was an avid reader. He enjoyed his family, especially his grandchildren. He was a veteran of World War II, serving from 1942 to 1945 in the U.S. Army Ordnance Corps. in the European Theater of Operations and was discharged as a staff sergeant. He had been affiliated with the First Baptist Church of Barre. He also was a 66 year and life member of Granite Masonic Lodge #35 of Barre. Besides his widow, survivors include his son William Morgan and his wife Dale, and two grandchildren, James and Jennifer Morgan, all of Barre. He was predeceased by his sister, Jean Morgan Knapp. A graveside service will be held at the convenience of his family in the Hope Cemetery. There are no calling hours. Memorial contributions may be made to the Central Vermont Home Health and Hospice, 600 Granger Road, Barre, VT 05641. The Hooker and Whitcomb Funeral Home, 7 Academy St., Barre, is in charge.

KEENE, N.H. – Committal services for Rachel K. Marsha, who died June 17, 2003, will be held Wednesday, August 6, 2003 at noon in the Plainmont Cemetery in East Montpelier. The Hooker and Whitcomb Funeral Home is in charge.

Edro L. Cecchini, Sr.
MONTPELIER – Edro L. Cecchini, Sr. 87, of Shady Lane, died July 30, 2003 at his home. He was born June 29, 1916 in Montpelier, Vermont the son of Angelo and Orsolina (Frontini) Cecchini. He attended Montpelier Schools and graduated from Montpelier High School in 1935. He later attended business college at Baypath Institute in Springfield, Mass. Mr. Cecchini served as a sergeant in the US Army Air Force during World War II. He married Norma Stokes in Northfield, VT on December 2, 1950. After his discharge from the service, he joined the family owned business, Everlasting Memorial Works, Inc. in Montpelier, where he worked until his retirement in 1983. He was a very devoted husband and loving father who did many things for his family. He was very unselfish and caring. He enjoyed his camp on Lake Champlain where he fished, boated, and enjoyed many get-togethers with family and friends. He was an avid golfer and loved to travel. He especially loved being with his children and grandchildren who brought great joy to his life. Edro was a life member of the Montpelier Elks #924, former volunteer fire fighter for the city of Montpelier from 1949 to 1959, and was a member of the Aurora Lodge #22 F& AM. He is survived by his wife, Norma of Montpelier; three daughters, Jamie Machia and her husband, John of Highgate, Vt.; Pam Polino and her husband Dan of North Claredon, Vt., Diane Clark and her husband, Jeff of South Barre, Vt.; two sons, Edro L. Ceccini Jr., and his wife Dora of Arlington, Vt., Philip Ceccini and his wife, Beth of Barre Town, Vt.; grandchildren, Lindsey Machia, Eric, Andrew, and Chad Poalino; Travis and Tyler Clark; Elizabeth, Morgan and Kasey Cecchini; Sarah and Karen Cecchini; a brother, Almo Cecchini of Montpelier, and a nephew, Terry Cecchini of Shelburne, Vt. A Funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, August 2, 2003 at Trinity United Methodist Church, 137 Main Street, Montpelier. Burial and military honors will follow at Green Mount Cemetery. There will be no calling hours. Allen Farnham, rites
WASHINGTON – A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated Thursday at 10:00 am in St. Monica Catholic Church in Barre for Allen R. Farnham, 77, of the West Corinth Road, who died Monday, July 28, 2003, in the Berlin Health and Rehabilitation Center. Rev. Peter Routhier, pastor, was celebrant. Deacon Daniel White assisted and led the Prayer of the Faithful. Albert Gagnon was Crucifer. Organist, Angeline Ennis accompanied soloist, Rita Laperle and Romeo Bilodeau in the hymns, “Here I Am Lord”, “My Soul is Longing”, “Amazing Grace”, “Come to Me”, “On Eagles’ Wings”, and “The Battle Hymn of the Republic”. Scripture readings from the Old and New Testament were by Sister Theresa Ste Marie. Granddaughters, Bethaney Farnham, Melissa Trepanier, Heather Tarbox, Chantel Wilkin, and Caitlyn Wilkin presented the Offertory Gifts at the altar. A niece, Joan Gingras offered Words of Remembrance. Interment was in the Maple Hill Cemetery in Washington with Rev. Routhier offering committal prayers. Bearers were all grandsons, Nathan Farnham, Richard Wadkins, Gregory Farnham, Nicolas Salvatori, Kyle Farnham, Jay Washburn, Brian Tarbox, and Kurtis Lorden. Honorary bearers were grandsons, Jim Wadkins, Vincent Wadkins, Jeremy Salvatori, Christopher Farnahm, and Corey Lorden. Military Honors were accorded the deceased by the Vermont Air National Guard. The Color Guard members were SMS Lavesy and MSG Lavallee. Taps were played by TSG Jim Noble. Folding of the flag was by Major Melvin Tessy and TSG Noble and presented by Major Tessy to son, Gary Farnham. Following the service, family and friends gathered at the Washington Village School for a time of fellowship and refreshments. Arrangements were under the direction of the Hooker and Whitcomb Funeral Home, 7 Academy Street, Barre. 

Rita Downs Roby, rites
MONTPELIER – A Memorial Mass for Rita Downs Roby who died July 26, 2003 was held at 11:00 a.m. at St. Augustine Church. Rev. Thomas P. Mosher, Pastor, officiated and Rev. Mr. Regis Cummings served as deacon. Dr. Wililam Dunn was cross bearer and alter server. Kenneth Sutton was organist and accompanied soloist, Pat Gavula. Greeters were Laura and Angela Conti and offertory gifts were presented by Erica and Kendra Roby. Words of reflection were offered by Michael Roby. A poem written by the Mrs. Roby’s grandchildren, Christopher, Erica, and Kendra, was read by Erica. Burial followed the mass in Green Mount Cemetery. 

Leo Bertrand
MONTPELIER – A committal service for Leo Bertrand, who died March 9, 2003, will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, August 4, 2003, at Hope Cemetery in Barre. Guare and Sons Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

David Ziter, Sr.
ENFIELD, Conn. — David J. Ziter, Sr. 77, of Enfield, Conn., passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, July 26, 2003, surrounded by his wife of 54 years, Theresa (Carrier) Ziter, and his children. He was born in Barre, Vermont, on November 8, 1925, the son of the late Joseph H. Ziter and Eva (Corey) Ziter. David was a communicant of St. Patrick’s Church in Enfield since 1961. At the age of 18 he was drafted into the U.S. Army where he served in the Philippines until the end of World War II. He moved to Connecticut in 1952 to work at Hamilton Standard in Windsor Locks and later owned and operated a wholesale banana business in Springfield, Mass., and Thompsonville section of Enfield, Conn. David then entered the real estate field where he sold and developed commercial real estate for twenty years before he retired in 1993. Since retirement he worked part time at National Car Rental in Windsor Locks, Conn.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Karen Goodbout and her husband, Bob of Enfield, Conn.; four sons, David J. Ziter, Jr. and his wife, Jan of Springfield, Mass., Joseph Ziter and companion, Janis Dare of Enfield, Conn., Steven Ziter and his wife, Ann of Ellington, Conn., Anthony Ziter and his wife, Debra of Washington, Vt.; ten grandchildren; a brother, Herbert J. Ziter of Lyndonville, Vt.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN, 38105. Funeral services were held on, Wednesday, July 30, 2003, at St. Patrick’s Church, Enfield, and a burial with Military Honors followed at St. Patrick’s King Street Cemetery, Enfield. Arrangements were handled by Leete-Stevens Enfield Chapels, 61 South Rd., Enfield, CT, 06082. 

Philip L. Cookson,\b>
EAST MONTPELIER /ZEPHRHILLS, Fla.– Philip Laurence Cookson, 55, died on July 28, 2003, in Lake City, Fla., en route to his home in Zephrhills.
He was born June 28, 1948, in New Haven, Conn., the son of John and Elizabeth Cookson.
He spent many years in Vermont before moving to Florida. He is survived by his mother, Elizabeth S. Cookson of St. Petersburg, Fla., his two sons, Josh Cookson of Boston and Joel Cookson of Huntington, Penn.; his former wife, Judy Cookson of Barre; his brothers, Willard Cookson of Brockton, Mass., and John Cookson and his family of Keene, N.H.; his partner, Maureen Thomas, and aunts, uncles and cousins.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, August 2nd at 5p.m. at the Lakewood United Church of Christ in St. Petersburg, Fla.

Lizzie Belle “Betty” Batchelder
EAST CORINTH – Lizzie Belle “Betty” Batchelder, 94, of East Corinth died July 28, 2003, at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, N.H.
She was born July 16, 1909, in East Montpelier, the daughter of Leon Andrew and Marion Estelle (Johnson) King. She grew up and was educated in East Corinth schools. After her schooling, she was employed at Chapman’s Drugstore in Fairlee.
On December 9, 1929, she married Hazen L. Smith Sr. in Orford, N.H. The family lived in Orford until the couple was divorced in 1944. She moved to West Lebanon, N.H. and was employed at the Nu-Bridge Restaurant on the Miracle Mile.
In 1955, she married Bertram Batchelder in Bradford. He died in 1957.
She returned to Bradford and worked as a companion to the elderly for many local families. In 1960, she moved to Plymouth, N.H., where she was employed by Plymouth State College as a sorority house mother. In the mid-1960s, she retired and moved to East Corinth to live with her brother on the family homestead.
She enjoyed spending time with her family, traveling, and being with senior citizens. She was an active participant with the Orange Senior Independence Program in Newbury, Vt.
Survivors include two daughters, Lorraine Howland of Lebanon, N.H., and Virginia Crowe of Bristol, Conn.; four sons, Glenn E. Smith of Lebanon, N.H., Russell B. Smith of Fairlee, Hazen L. Smith, Jr. of Franklin, N.H., and Gene W. Smith of North Chichester, N.H.; 13 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; 3 great-great-grandchildren; a sister, Grace Whittimore of North Port, Fla.; a brother, Lawrence G. King of East Corinth; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by two brothers, William and John King, and four sisters, Marion Donald, Emma Shover, Gertrude King and Dorothy Oliver.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, August 2, 2003, at 11 a.m. at the United Church of Christ in Bradford. Burial will be at the convenience of the family in Valley Cemetery in Lebanon, N.H. There are no calling hours.

Leo J. Monahan
GRANITEVILLE – Leo J. Monahan, 75, of 126 Quarry Hill Apartments, passed away Tuesday, July 29, 2003, at his home.
Born in Watertown, Mass., on August 13, 1928, he was the son of Leo and Helen (Ahern) Monahan.
He attended schools in Waltham, Mass. and Berdette College in Boston.
In the spring of 1956, he married Sheila McGuire in Waltham, Mass. They later divorced. In the fall of 1987, he married Rhoda Guilmette in Wells River. They later divorced.
He was a sales manager for Ruberoid Roofing Co. in Boston and New York.
He later moved to Barre Town. He owned and operated Barre Home Supply in South Barre. He retired in 1999.
He is survived by four children; David Monahan of Monument, Co.; Michael Monahan of Olympia, Wa.; Gail Monahan of Boston, and Lisa Monahan of Newton, Mass.; four grandchildren, one great-grandchild, and one sister, Virginia Wright of West Bloomfield, Mich.
Leo is also survived by his former wife and friend, Sheila Monahan of Wellesley, Mass., and also his former wife and friend, Rhoda Monahan of Barre; nieces, grand-nieces, and a grand-nephew.
Family and friends may call at the Pruneau-Polli Funeral Home, 58 Summer St., Barre on Friday from 7 to 9 p.m. A prayer service will be held at 8:15 p.m.
A later memorial service will be held at the convenience of the family.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory may be made to the Newton Wellesley Alzheimer Center, 694 Worcester Rd., Wellesley, Mass. 02482.

Dorothy Hook
WILDER, Vt. — Dorothy L. Hook, age 81 died peacefully July 29, 2003 at the home of her daughter after a long illness.
She was born September 8, 1921 in Chelsea, Vermont, the daughter of Alton E. and Clara M. (Hood) Felch. She attended Chelsea schools and in 1939 graduated from Chelsea High School.
On July 28, 1939 she married Melvin W. Hook of Chelsea and they relocated to the Barre-Montpelier area. She raised Shetland ponies for several years in East Barre in the early 1950’s. When the family re-located to Cape Canaveral, FL, she was a realtor during the Space Age boom. During the early 1960’s, she volunteered for the Red Cross and also as a Gray Lady at the local hospitals in the Burlington area.
Her life-long dream of becoming a nurse came to fruition in 1963 when she graduated from Fanny Allen School as a LPN. She worked for many years at Mary Fletcher, De Goesbriand, Fanny Allen and Central Vermont Hospitals. In her later years, she worked as a realtor for Century 21 in Burlington, VT. Several years were again spent in Chelsea after her husband’s retirement. After her husband’s death she moved to Pensacola, FL for four years. She returned to Brookfield VT in 1991. In 1996, she moved to be a live-in care-taker in Thetford Center, VT. She remained there until August of 2001 when she moved to White River Jct., VT to be close to her daughter.
Dorothy enjoyed gardening, the outdoors, crocheting and also knitting. She was a member of the Faith United Methodist Church in South Burlington, VT. Dorothy had a keen sense of humor and was truly optimistic about life. In the last several years, however, Parkinson’s disease and Lewy Body Dementia controlled her existence.
She is survived by her daughter, Melanie Hook of Wilder, VT; her sister, Stella Waldo of Chelsea, VT; a daughter-in-law, Linda Reichert of Newport Center, VT; a son-in-law, James Green of Pensacola, FL; four grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was predeceased by her husband; her daughter, Beverly Green; her son, Duane Hook; two brothers, Neal and Lyle Felch and a sister, Bessie Irwin.
There are no public calling hours. A funeral service will be held at the West Hill Methodist Church in Chelsea at 11:00 am on Friday, August 1, 2003. The burial will follow in the West Hill Cemetery in Chelsea. Memorial contributions may be made to the West Hill Methodist Church, c/o Charles Hayward, 12 Hayward Crossroad, Chelsea, VT 05038. Arrangements are under the direction of the Boardway & Cilly Funeral Home, Main Street, Chelsea, VT.

Rose Bagley, Rites
BARRE CITY – Funeral Services were held Saturday July 26, 2003 at 2 p.m. at the Pruneau-Polli Funeral Home for Rose Bagley of 11 Harrington Avenue who passed away on July 23, 2003 at her home.
The Rev. Peter Routhier, Pastor of St. Monica Church in Barre, officiated.
Pre-recorded hymns were, “Amazing Grace,” “Just A Closer Walk With Thee,” “How Great Thou Art” and “Rock of Ages.”
Active bearers were, Daniel Garrett, Sr., Billy Garrett, Richard Bagley, all grandsons, Daniel Garrett, Jr. and Eric Bagley, both great-grandsons, and Bill Devins, a friend.
Burial was in Wilson Cemetery in Lower Websterville, Vt., where Deacon Daniel White, of St. Monica Church, offered Committal Prayers.
Following the burial a fellowship and refreshments were held at Bill and Tammy Garrett’s home on 114 Green Street in Barre.
Services were in the care of the Pruneau-Polli Funeral Home 58 Summer St., Barre, Vt. 

Dorothy Anderson
BRADFORD – Dorothy Anderson, 95, passed away July 28, 2003, at Genesis Eldercare in Lebanon, N.H., after a short illness.
She was born on May 24, 1908 in Bradford, the daughter of Frederick and Lilla (Demar) Sanborn. She attended Bradford schools and graduated from Teacher’s College in Middlebury.
She married Nelson R. Greer in 1929. They lived in Bradford for a short while, until moving in 1935 to Middleboro, Mass., where they owned and operated a large farm. In 1946 the couple and their three children moved back to Orford, N.H. She was later married to Elton Woodward of Orford, N.H., and Arthur Anderson of Bradford both of whom pre-deceased her.
She taught grade school in West Fairlee and Orford, N.H. until her retirement.
She was an active member of the Grace United Methodist Church of Bradford, until she was unable to attend services. For many years, she held bible-study in her home until selling her home and moving to Wheelock Terrace in Hanover 15 months ago.
An accomplished artist, she painted landscapes in oil on canvas.
Survivors include two children, Joyce Gray of Lyme, N.H., and Richard Greer of Lewis, N.Y., and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews. She was pre-deceased by a son, Arthur Greer; two sisters, Madelyn Slack and Helen Sanborn; and two brothers, William Sanborn and Kendall Sanborn.
Funeral services will be Thursday, July 31, 2003 at 11 a.m. at Grace United Methodist Church in Bradford. Burial will follow in Orford Street Cemetery. Friends may call Wednesday evening from 6-8 p.m. at Hale Funeral Home, Upper Plain, Bradford.

Bernard Guilmette
EAST MONTPELIER, VT – Funeral services for Bernard W. “Fuzzy” Guilmette, who died July 20, 2003, was held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, at The Old Meeting House Church in East Montpelier Center.
Rev. David Connor, associate pastor, officiated the service. June Morse was organist and accompanied soloist, Rosemary Badeau singing, “How Great Thou Art,” “Amazing Grace,” “Wind Beneath My Wings,” and “On Eagles Wings.”
Words of remembrance were offered by several family members and friends at the service and also at the reception in the parish hall.
The Pallbearers were Jeff Guilmette, Spencer Pryce, Derek Pryce, Richard Blake, Daniel Benson, Michaeljon Mascitti.
The funeral procession was escorted by Fuzzy’s Ford Dually and by Bellavance Trucking Company, in a truck similar to the one he drove for many years.
A committal was held immediately following the church service at the Doty Cemetery in East Montpelier.

Gary Kenyon
MONTPELIER – Gary A. Kenyon, 65, formerly of Elm Street in Montpelier, died July 23, 2003, at the Berlin Health and Rehabilitation Center in Berlin.
He was born Dec. 14, 1937, in Burlington, the son of Clifford and Edna (LaFlam) Kenyon.
He attended schools in Burlington.
Mr. Kenyon worked for many years for King Reid Carnival.
He was married to Gloria Trow.
He was a member of Twin City Lanes bowling leagues.
He enjoyed bowling and visiting family and friends.
Survivors include a daughter Gloria Burbo of Burlington; a son Gary A. Kenyon Jr. of Burlington; two sisters, Beverly Arnold of Pittsford and Judy Thibault of Essex Junction; four brothers, Clifford Kenyon of Northfield, Carl Kenyon of Virginia and Clem Kenyon and James Kenyon, both of Colorado; three grandchildren and one step-granddaughter.
His parents, his long-time companion Phyliss Davis, and a brother Charles Kenyon are deceased.
A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at Mt. Hope Cemetery in Northfield.
Guare and Sons Funeral Home in Montpelier is in charge of arrangements.
