Joseph B. “Sandy” Perkins III, 66
HAVERHILL, MA - Joseph B. “Sandy” Perkins III, 66, a lifelong resident of the Bradford section Haverhill, died Wednesday, April 4, 2007 at the Oxford Nursing Home after a lengthy illness.
He was born in Haverhill, the son of the late, Joseph B. Jr. and Muriel (Kershaw) Perkins. He was a 1959 Graduate of Haverhill Trade School, where he learned the Printing Trade. Immediately upon graduation, he proudly served his country by joining the Navy where he was stationed on the USS Severn. He was a member of Trinity Episcopal Church. For many years he was owner and operator of J.B. Perkins and Son Construction Co., working throughout the Merrimack Valley, until retiring four years ago. He was a devout racing fan, locally and nationally, he drove pace car at Star Speedway in Epping. He loved to watch the NASCAR races weekly.
He leaves a son and daughter in law, Joseph B. IV, and Darlene, of Mooresville, North Carolina, two brothers and their wives, George and Linda Perkins, of Haverhill, and Donald and Joanne Perkins, of Natick, four sisters, Elaine Demeritt, and Edith Guerin, both of Haverhill, H. Sue Barlow and her husband Roy, of Norfolk, VA, and Barbara Lagasse and her husband Victor, of Londonderry, NH, three grandchildren, Krystal, Joseph B. V, and Dillon, aunt and uncle, Priscilla and Frank Pallazzo, and several nieces and nephews.

Peggy Jane Hardy, 41
HAVERHILL, MA - Peggy Jane Hardy, 41, (“29”) of Haverhill, formerly, of Eddington, Maine, died Saturday, March 31, 2007 at the Methuen Health and Rehab Center in Methuen after a lengthy illness.
Peggy was born in Bangor, daughter of the late, Richard C. and Jane A. (Withee) Hardy. She was raised in Brewer, and was a 1984 Graduate of Brewer High School. She attended Job Corp and University of Maine, Bangor, where she received her Degree in Child Care. She was a lover of Animals, the natural beauty of New England, and rock & roll music. The loving family she leaves behind includes her sister and brother in law, Polly and Dan Calderwood, of North Haven, ME, companion and soul mate of twenty-five years, Donny L. Duty, of Haverhill, his son, Timmy, step mother, Patricia Hardy, of Bangor, ME, brothers, Ben and Jeff Toole, nieces, Meagen, Amelia, Ava, and Melanie Pulla and Family, uncle and aunt, Bruce and Linda Hardy, special cousin, Susan Kearns and family, and the animals she adopted, cats, Alex and Max, and Belle the pooch.

HAVERHILL, MA - Taylor Jordan Burnell-Gephart, infant son of Eugene R. Gephart and Cheryl L. Burnell, died Monday, March 26, 2007 at Lawrence General Hospital. Besides his parents he leaves a sister, Jessica M. Burnell, of Haverhill, grandfather, Harvey Gephart, of Columbus, Indiana, and several aunts, uncles, and cousins. Joan (Saucier) Costello
HAVERHILL, MA - Joan (Saucier) Costello, of Haverhill, died Tuesday, March 27, 2007 at Caritas Holy Family Hospital in Methuen after a brief illness.
She was born in Brooklyn, New York, daughter of the late, George R. and Hetti (Froeber) Saucier. She was educated at St. Joseph’s Elementary School in New London, CT. before moving to Haverhill, where she graduated from St. James High School, Class of 1954. She went on to graduate from the Massachusetts General Hospital School of Nursing, Class of 1957. Mrs. Costello was employed as a registered nurse at the former Hale Hospital in Haverhill for over twenty-five years. She was a member of St. James Parish. She was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, and cherished time spent with her family. She particularly enjoyed watching her grandchildren participate in various sports and activities and was a friend to all who knew her. She was proud of her nursing career and looked forward to her 50th reunion of the MGH school of Nursing.
The widow of Thomas A. Costello, who died in 2003, she leaves her beloved children, Anne M. and her husband, William Enaire, of Amesbury, Michael T. Costello, of Haverhill, Jean T. Boudreau, of Haverhill, Matthew T. and his wife Margaret, of Kingston, NH, Daniel and his wife, Debra, of Fremont, NH, cherished grandchildren, Katie, Billy, and Matthew Enaire, David and Danielle Costello, Michael and Mark Boudreau, Tiffany, Tori, Lucas, Brittany, and Daniel Costello, II, one great grandchild, Edgardo Adrian Cochran, a sister, Doris H. Cote and her husband Carl, of Danvers and several nieces and nephews.

Robert J. Ravgiala, 49
LAWRENCE, MA - Robert J. Ravgiala, 49, of Lawrence, formerly of Hancock St.Haverhill, died Monday, March 19, 2007 at his home after a lifelong struggle with diabetes.
He was born in Methuen, son of the late, Albert and Madeleine (Regan) Ravgiala and lived in Haverhill most of his life, moving to Lawrence eight years ago. He was educated in Haverhill Public Schools and was a 1975 Graduate of Whittier Regional Vocational Technical High School, where he studied the electrical trade. Upon graduation, Mr. Ravgiala proudly served his country by enlisting in the U.S. Army. Robert worked at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard as an electrician. He then became a mail carrier for the United States Post Office, Haverhill branch, for over fifteen years. Complications from diabetes forced him to an early retirement. He was an avid Patriots and Red Sox fan. He loved animals, especially his Pug, Jake, whom he rescued. He and Jake enjoyed attending “Pugfest” the annual dog show for pugs.
He was a proud father, his daughter Jonlynn served her country in the Navy, and he relished his time listening to his talented Jennifer play her Harp. He leaves his beloved wife of twenty-six years, Donna J. (Sayers) Ravgiala, of Lawrence, two daughters, Jonlynn M. Rudy and her husband, Scott, of Bremerton, Washington, and Jennifer L. Ravgiala, of Lawrence, a brother and sister in law, Vincent and Debi Ravgiala, of Bradford, three sisters and their husbands, Joanne and Charles Allen, of Titusville, Florida, Nancy and Hershel Rawlinson, of Prattville, Alabama, and Cecelia Harvey, of Dorchester, a grandson, Dominic J. Rudy, and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a brother, Joseph J. in 1992.

Ernest E. Dirago, 91
AURORA, CO - Aurora, Colorado, Ernest E. Dirago, 91, formerly of Haverhill, died Tuesday, February 27, 2007 at the Aurora Medical Center after a lengthy illness.
He was born in Haverhill, December 24, 1915, son of the late, Egidio and Maria (Argenzio) Dirago. He was educated in Haverhill public schools and lived here until moving to Colorado fifteen years ago. Mr. Dirago was employed by the Ornsteen Shoe Manufacturing Co. in Haverhill as a leather cutter. He was a lifelong member of St. Rita’s Parish.
The widower of Esterina (Aragona) Dirago, who died in 1985, he leaves his beloved daughters and their families, Mary and Fred Malcolm, of Bradford, and Theresa Farr, of Kittery, Maine, cherished grandchildren, Sallie Mugavero, Joanne Beaulieu, and Kimberly and Kristin Heffernan, a great grandson, Jordan Marsh, and several nieces and nephews.

John R. Cavanaugh, 64
HAVERHILL, MA - John R. Cavanaugh, 64, of Dorchester, died at his home on February 14, 2007. He was born in Boston, the son of the late, Sylvester J. and Catherine J. (King) Cavanaugh. Mr. Cavanaugh was a 1960 graduate of South Boston High School. He was employed by the State of Massachusetts, as Assistant Clerk Magistrate, at the Boston Municipal Court for over thirty-one years, retiring in 2002.
A kind-hearted and giving man, he always put others before himself. Growing up in Southie he loved music and was active in the community including as a member of the Columbia-Savin Hill Civic Association. Mr. Cavanaugh enjoyed taking pictures, sharing newspaper articles and spending time with his friends and family.
He leaves a son, David J. Cavanaugh, a daughter, Catherine M. Cavanaugh, and former wife, Donna E. (Swartz) Cavanaugh, all of Haverhill, two brothers, Lawrence A.Cavanaugh, of Quincy, and Stephen Cavanaugh, of Braintree, a sister, Sr. Nancy Cavanaugh, of South Boston, and nieces and nephews.

Ronald E. Muir, 39
HAVERHILL, MA - Ronald E. Muir, 39, of Haverhill, died at his home on February 5, 2007, after a lifelong battle with diabetes.
He was born in Haverhill the son of Rita M. (Jerome) and the late Howard W. Muir. He attended Haverhill Public Schools. Mr. Muir worked for various cleaning agencies throughout the Merrimack Valley. He was an avid outdoorsman, he loved camping and fishing. He leaves a daughter, Amanda C. Muir, mother, Rita M. Muir, both of Haverhill, four brothers, Bernard W. and his wife, Kathleen, of Haverhill, Daniel R. Muir, of Sandown, NH, Todd C. and his wife, Tina, of Haverhill, two sisters, Tammy J. Muir, of Haverhill, and Terry L. Therrien, of Hampton, NH nine nieces and nephews and five great-nieces and nephews.

Charles H. Poulin, 77
HAVERHILL, MA - Charles H. Poulin, 77, of Haverhill, died Tuesday, February 6, 2007 at the Hannah Dustin Health Care Center, after a lengthy illness.
He was born in Haverhill, the son of the late Ovide and Alice (Bouvier) Poulin and lived here all of his life. He was a 1947 graduate of Haverhill High school. Mr. Poulin was employed as a systems analyst for the Raytheon Co. in Andover for over thirty-two years until his retirement in 1995. He was an active lifelong member of All Saints Parish, he enjoyed bowling in their league, he was a member of the St. Vincent de Paul Society, and the St. Joseph’s men’s club. An avid sports fan, he cheered for all Boston sports teams. He read everything, and was a self taught computer expert.
He enjoyed emailing friends and family. He wrote and published his own book for his family, chronicling his family history and his childhood and lifelong memories of growing up in his Dupre Ave. neighborhood, entitled “How Lucky Can You Get”. He leaves his beloved wife of fifty- four years, Elaine M. (Comeau) Poulin, of Haverhill, a son, Mark C. Poulin, of Oakland, CA, daughters and sons in law, Alicia M. and Gerald J. Whalen, of Haverhill, Corinne C. Murray, of Safety Harbor, FL, Rachel A. Poulin, of Sturbridge, MA, Renee T. and David M. Surette, of Haverhill, and Celeste M. and Timothy J. Vaughan, of North Andover, MA, a sister and brother in law, Claire and Jack Stary, of Camp Verde, AZ, cherished grandchildren, Colleen Whalen, Valerie and Keaton Murray, Stephen, Shane, and Danny Surette, T.J. and Owen Vaughan, a great-grandchild, Ryan Murray, and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a brother, Maurice Poulin and a sister, Rachael Huberdeau.

David P. Merrill, 72
MERRIMAC, MA - David P. Merrill, 72, of Merrimac, formerly of Haverhill, died Sunday, February 4, 2007 at the Shaughnessy-Kaplan Rehabilitation Hospital in Salem, MA after a lengthy illness.
Born in Haverhill, he lived here most of his life until moving to Merrimac two years ago. He was a graduate of Haverhill High School, class of 1952. He proudly served his country as a Marine during the Korean War, attaining the rank of Sergeant. Mr. Merrill worked for the City of Haverhill tree department. He then was employed by Western Electric, AT & T, and Lucent as a furnace tender in the ferrite department until his retirement in 1990. His many memberships include, V.F.W. Post 1698 of Franklin, NH, American Legion Executive Board Member, Carl Davis Post 34 of Plaistow, Vic Geary Center, Plaistow, and lifelong member of All Saints Church. David was a special family man, he loved the outdoors, he was an avid skier, and fisherman. He enjoyed sun bathing, working out, and most of all spending time with his beloved family in various activities.
He leaves his wife of fifty-one years, Mary L.( Phaneuf) Merrill, of Merrimac, daughter and son in law, Kathleen A. and Robert M. Pothier, of Haverhill, two sons and their wives, David P., Jr. and Jeanne (Smith), of Sorento, Florida, and Thomas M. and Noreen (Goodwin), of Haverhill, a brother, and sister in law, Donald T. and Shirley, of No. Hampton, NH, two brothers in law, Louis F. and Joan Phaneuf, of Virginia, and Alfred E. and Jaqueline Phaneuf, of Haverhill, six grandchildren, Jennifer Mueller and her husband, Jason, Jaimee and Michele Pothier, and Katie Jo Merrill, all of Haverhill, Leyna and Taylor Merrill, of Sorento, Florida, and several nieces and nephews.

Merle E. Arnold, 68
HAVERHILL, MA - Merle E. Arnold, 68, of Haverhill died at the Lahey Clinic in Burlington on Thursday, February 1, 2007 after being stricken ill suddenly, following the funeral of his late wife, Nancy A. Arnold on January 27.
He was born in Lynn, the son of the late, Ellis E. and Charlotte E. (Savage) Arnold. He attended Haverhill Public Schools. Merle enjoyed working with his hands, he was a mechanic by trade, and worked at White Street Motors for many years, he also drove cab for Courtesy Cab Co.,both in Haverhill. He loved camping, cooking, and worked with pottery and ceramics.
He leaves a daughter, Linda Arnold, of Florida, beloved stepchildren and their spouses, Frances L. and Jane Bergeron, Clayton D. Bergeron and his Fiance’, Sandra Mott, all of Raymond, NH, Kevin M. Bergeron, of Whitefield, NH, Gail M. and Kelly Dodson, of Rochester, NH, sisters and their husbands, Florrie and Jack Price, of Stratford, NH, Dorothy and William Carter, of East Hampstead, NH, and Claire and Raymond Britton, of Haverhill, twenty grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. Catherine L. (Germinara) DeVeau, 72
HAVERHILL, MA - Catherine L. (Germinara) DeVeau, 72, of Haverhill, died peacefully in her home with her family by her side, on Thursday, February 1, 2007 after a lengthy and courageous battle with cancer.
She was born in Georgetown, daughter of the late, Angelo and Italia (Valentino) Germinaro. She attended Haverhill public schools and Haverhill High School. Mrs. DeVeau was employed by various companies in the local shoe industry, she was a packer and finisher at the Kramer shoe Co., she worked for Snyder Leather Co. as a Sales person, and Allen Shoe Co. She also worked for Western Electric in North Andover. Catherine loved cooking and baking, she was an avid BINGO player and enjoyed trips to Foxwoods with friends. She enjoyed bowling and was a Red Sox fan. She was self taught on her computer and spent countless hours keeping in touch with her family and friends via E-Mail. She leaves her beloved husband of fifty-four years, Conrad C. DeVeau, of Haverhill, two sons and daughters in law, Stephen C. DeVeau and Leah J, of Haverhill, David R. DeVeau and Melissa A., of The Woodlands, Texas, a daughter Deborah F. DeVeau, of Stratham, NH, sisters, Rosemary Barberio, of Martha’s Vineyard, Frances Bayer, of Florida, Theresa and her husband John Wezesa, of Haverhill, and Shirley Kidder, of Haverhill, five grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

Cecilia (Martin) LaFlamme, 79
HAVERHILL, MA - Cecilia (Martin) LaFlamme, 79, of Lawrence died Thursday, January 25, 2007, at the Oxford Nursing Home in Haverhill after a lengthy illness. She was born and educated in Lawrence, the daughter of the late, Stephen and Blanche (Clearmont) Martin and lived here all of her life. At the age of sixteen she was employed at the Wood Mill in Lawrence. She then married her husband Rene, and the next sixty years she was a full time homemaker. She leaves her husband, Rene LaFlamme, a son, William LaFlamme, a daughter, Carol Ann Johnson, all of Lawrence, a brother, Raymond Martin, of Waterville, NH, three sisters, Claudia Bakios, and Theresa Perry, both of Florida, and Frances Martin, of Lawrence, two grandchildren, Michelle and Rachael Fountaine, seven great-grandchildren, one of which is named for her, Alana Cecilia. Nancy A. (DeCosta) Arnold, 68
HAVERHILL, MA - Nancy A. (DeCosta) Arnold- 68, a lifelong resident of Haverhill, died Thursday, January 25, 2007, at the Merrimack Valley Hospital after a lengthy illness.
She was born and educated in Haverhill, the daughter of the late Wesley and Helen (Currier) DeCosta. Mrs. Arnold was employed as a Certified Nursing Assistant at the Haverhill Manor Nursing Home for thirty-five years until her retirement in 1993. She was a homebody, and her favorite pastime was spent with family or watching her soap operas The widow of Francis L. Bergeron, Sr. who died in 1984, she leaves her loving husband of thirteen years, Merle E. Arnold, of Bradford, three sons, Francis L. Bergeron Jr. and his wife, Jane, Clayton D. and his fiancé, Sandra Mott, all of Raymond, NH, and Kevin M., of Whitefield, NH, a daughter and son in law, Gail M. and Kelly Dodson, of Rochester, NH, , a brother and sister in law, Richard and Grace DeCosta, of Wakefield, NH, three sisters, Christine Peavey, of Wakefield, NH, Eleanor Bergeron, of Florida, and Margaret and Jake Petty, of Folkston, GA, 20 grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a son, Mark J. Bergeron, and sister, Dorothy Bacigalupo.

HAVERHILL, MA - Paul F. Buckley, Jr., 20 of Haverhill, died Friday, January 19, 2007 at Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston.
A lifelong resident of Haverhill, he was a 2004 Graduate of Whittier Regional Vocational High School, where he majored in the Marketing Program. Paul was employed as an apprentice for a local electrical company, and aspired to someday become a licensed electrician. Previously, he worked for Haverhill Bank as a teller, and for a time worked in landscaping. He was known as a practical joker, and had a great sense of humor. He loved playing football, and played for the semi-pro team, the Mill City Maulers. He was a body builder, working out two hours a day. In his younger days he would be found at the Haverhill boys club playing basketball.
He leaves his beloved mother, and step-father, Gloria J. (Campbell) and Richard Smith, of Haverhill, brothers, Daniel A. Campbell, Christopher S. Smith, both of Haverhill, and Corey D. Buckley, of Kingston, NH, sisters, Tanya M. Smith, of Salem, NH, and Tracey A. Smith, of Modesto, CA, grandmothers, Theresa M. Campbell, of Merrimac, and Doris Smith, of Haverhill, two nephews, Anthony and Elijah Buckley, longtime girlfriend, Diana Melendez, of Lawrence, and several aunts, uncles, and cousins. Friends and family are respectfully invited to call on Tuesday at the Kevin B. Comeau Funeral Home, 486 Main St. (Rte 125) Haverhill, from 4 to 8:00 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, January 24, in All Saints Church, Bellevue Ave, at 10:00 AM. Burial will follow in Linwood Cemetery, Mill St. Haverhill. Michael F. Brent, 53
HAVERHILL, MA - Michael F. Brent, 53, a lifelong resident of Haverhill died Friday January 12, 2007 at the Lawrence General Hospital.
He was born in Haverhill, the son of the late Frederick S. “Pete” and Agnes C. (Shanahan) Brent. He was a 1971 Graduate of Haverhill High School. Michael, along with his former wife Lauren (Prescott), owned and operated Brent Coffee and Snack Service in Haverhill for over twenty-five years, servicing many businesses throughout the Merrimack Valley with their vending needs. An avid sportsman, he enjoyed skiing, golfing, and bowling. Known as an accomplished harmonica player, he loved the blues and jammed with various bands at local clubs. He was a classic car collector, buying and selling as a hobby.
He leaves a son and daughter in law, Peter D. and Kerry C. Brent, of Rochester, NH, daughters, Rebecca S. Davis and her husband Owen, of York, Maine, and Sarah M. Brent, of Haverhill, grandchildren, Abigail, Gavin, Lexi, and Ava, sisters and brothers in law, Kathryn and Michael Simonds, of Haverhill, Barbara A. Mitchell, of Haverhill, Judith and Charles Russo, of Methuen, Brothers and their wives, Daniel F. Brent, of Salem, NH, Jack J. and Maureen Brent, of Fairlawn, NJ, and Joseph P. and Jacqueline Brent, of Haverhill, and many loving nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a sister, Mary Eaton in 1983. Friends and family are respectfully invited to call on Saturday, January 20, 2007 at the Kevin B. Edward J. Comeau, 79
HAVERHILL, MA - Edward J. Comeau, 79, a lifelong resident of Haverhill, died at his home with his family by his side on Tuesday, January, 16, 2007. He was born in Haverhill, son of the late Edward A. and Mary Lucy (Blinn) Comeau. He attended St. Joseph Grammar School.
Mr. Comeau was a Veteran of the Korean War serving in the U.S. Army. He was employed by the State of Massachusetts as a custodian at Northern Essex Community College for twenty years, retiring in 1990, previously working for various shops in the local shoe industry. He was a member of St. James Parish He enjoyed tinkering with machinery and wood, he fixed lawnmowers and snow blowers, helped his wife with her crafts, and built birdhouses. Times he treasured the most were spent with his family, he enjoyed a good card game, especially beating them at a game of forty-five’s. He leaves his beloved wife of forty-nine years, Roberta A. (Hamilton) Comeau, loving daughters, Kathleen L. Crossman and her husband Glenn, of Newton, NH, Katherine M. Bishop, of Salisbury, and Karen R. Plourde and her partner, Thomas Willis, of Salem, NH., brothers, Philip and his wife, Karlene, of Hampton, NH, Albert J., of Haverhill, sisters and their husbands, Louise and William Walsh, and Esther and Thomas Tannian, all of Haverhill, Lorraine and John Rouse, of Tacoma, WA, cherished grandchildren, Sarah and Emily Crossman, Robert and Corey Bishop, George and Scott Herman, Cassaundra Plourde, and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a brother Paul D. Comeau in 2002.

Dorothy G. (Haggar) Pickering, 92
HAVERHILL, MA - Dorothy G. (Haggar) Pickering, 92, of Haverhill, formerly of Norwood and the Hyde Park section of Boston, died January 6, 2007 at the Oxford Nursing Home after a lengthy illness. She was born in Boston, the daughter of the late Herbert W. and Mary A. (Gates) Haggar and graduated from Hyde Park High School class of 1932.
Always striving to better herself, she received a degree from the Harvard Extension program in 1979. During WWII she enlisted into the Marines and was assigned to air traffic control at the Naval Air Station at Cherry Point, North Carolina. For over forty-five years she witnessed many bank mergers as the supervisor of domestic collections for Old Pilgrim Trust Co., Merchant National Bank, Fleet, and finally, Bank of America in Boston. A woman of many talents, she enjoyed, drawing, dancing, playing piano, visiting various museums in Boston, and the Red Sox.
She leaves her beloved son and daughter in law, David E. and Patricia A. Pickering, of Haverhill, a brother, Richard Haggar, of Sandwich, and nieces and nephews. Friends and family are respectfully invited to call on Friday, January 12, 2007 at the Kevin B. Comeau Funeral Home, 486 Main St. (Rte 125) Haverhill, from 4:00 to 8:00PM. Funeral services will be held on Saturday morning at 10:00 AM in the funeral Home. A private burial will take place in the VA National Cemetery of Massachusetts, in Bourne, MA with military honors. Memorial donations may be made in her name to Beacon Hospice 350 Main St. Haverhill, MA 01830.
