JESSE - John "Johnny" Ralph Allen, 59, went to be with the Lord on Monday, July 28, 2003, at the home of his sister, Dianna Altizer, following a long illness.
Born Oct. 31, 1943 at Jesse, he was the son of the late Powell and Helen Bledsoe Allen.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Robert "Bob" Allen; and a ne-phew, James Randell Myers.
Survivors include three daughters, Donna Privett and husband, Johnny, of China Grove, N.C., Dana Hofe and husband, Mike, of Oak Hill and Denise Myers and husband, Roger, of Pineville; one brother, Daniel Allen and wife, Gladys, of Lindside; three sisters, Bertha Myers and husband, Johnnie, of Thomasville, N.C., Juanita Carothers of Oceana and Dianna "Sissy" Altizer and husband, George, of Jesse; six grandchildren, Kristofer and Heather Privett, Killian and Kelsey Hofe and Adam and Amy Myers; five nieces; five nephews; and a host of friends.
Services will be 11 a.m. Friday at Calfee Funeral Service Chapel, Pineville, with the Rev. Herman Cook officiating. Singers will be the Francis Family. Burial will follow in the Cook Cemetery, Jesse.
Friends may call from 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
Tommy Cook, Hank Stewart, Roy Dixon, Roy Lester Jr., Ronnie Walker and Charles Myers will serve as pallbearers.

William Bennett
William O. Bennett, 89, of Beaver, died Tuesday, July 29, 2003, in a Daniels area care facility, following a long illness.
Born Feb. 25, 1914, in Crow, he was the son of the late Perry David and Mattie May Harris Lilly Bennett.
Mr. Bennett was a member of the Crow Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by a son, Jerry J. Bennett; five sisters, Amy Corder, Geneva Adkins, Treva Bennett, Hazel Sonders and Retha Mae Lilly; two brothers, Mason Bennett and Elliot Bennett; and a grandchild.
Survivors include his wife, Molly E. Bennett; a daughter, Etta M. Bennett of Mechanicsville, Va.; a son, Luther P. Bennett of Flat Top; eight grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
Services will be 10 a.m. Thursday in the Redden Cemetery at Crow, with Pastor Dennis Burks officiating. Burial will follow.

Betty L. Blankenship
BLUEWELL - Betty L. Blankenship, 62, of Windmill Hill Road, died Monday, July 28, 2003, at Princeton Community Hospital in Princeton.
Services will be 2 p.m. Thursday at the Rowland H. Bailey Funeral Chapel of the Bailey-Kirk Funeral Home in Princeton. Interment will follow at New Zion Cemetery near Princeton.
Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Betty Lou Monday Blankenship
MULLENS - Betty Lou Monday Blankenship, 77, died Tuesday, July 29, 2003, at Duke University Hospital, Durham, N.C.
Born Feb. 14, 1926, at Maben, she was the daughter of the late Walter and Alice Banton Monday.
Mrs. Blankenship was a homemaker and a faithful member of Highland Avenue Baptist Church, Mullens, where she had formerly held several positions. They included Deaconess and Deacon Board, Board of Christian Education, Social and Flower Committee, and she had helped with Vacation Bible School and Christmas plays. She was an active member of the Adult Sunday School Class and Ladies Circle of the Church.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Paul Monday.
Survivors include her caring and loving husband of 47 years, Cloyd Blankenship; two sons, Mark Blankenship of Raleigh, N.C., and Rick Rice of Mullens; a grandson, Merrick Rice of Huntington; a sister, Mae Worley and husband, Lewis, of Mullens; and a brother, Dave Monday and wife, Reva, of Mullens.
Service will be 11 a.m. Friday at Highland Avenue Baptist Church, Mullens, with the Rev. Mike Toler officiating. Burial will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, Beckley.
Friends may call 6:30 to 8 p.m. today at the church and one hour before service Friday at the church.
Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.

SAULSVILLE - Ocie Blankenship, 91, passed away Tuesday, July 29, 2003, at her residence, following a short illness.
Service will be 1 p.m. Friday at Mary Lou Baptist Church. Burial will follow in Cooper Cemetery, near Paynesville.
Friends may call 6 p.m. today until time of service Friday at the church.

Ocie Hilda Tindell
ANSTED - Ocie Hilda Tindell, 82, passed away Tuesday, July 29, 2003, at her residence following a short illness.
Born Aug. 20, 1921, at Nallen, she was the daughter of the late Clarence F. and Ina Haynes Johnson.
Mrs. Tindell had attended the Methodist Church and attended Glenville State College.
She was a homemaker.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard B. Tindell; and a son, Richard Steven Tindell.
Survivors include a daughter, Cathy Reid and husband, James, of DeMascus, Md.; a son, Roger Tindell of Ansted; two sisters, Edie Lyons of Charleston and Helen Turner of Erlanger, Ky.; a brother, John Johnson of Ansted; five grandchildren, Serena Maffre, Erica Crum, Jessica Reid, Steve Thames and Tony Thames; two great-grandchildren, Justin and Shalen; and several nieces and nephews.
Service will be 2 p.m. today at Wallace and Wallace Funeral Home, Ansted, with Pastor Larry Gawthrop officiating. Burial will follow in Bethel Cemetery, Corliss.

Rev. Herbert L. Blevins
The Rev. Herbert L. Blevins of Midway passed away suddenly on Saturday, July 26, 2003.
Born Nov. 15, 1941, he was the son of Ella Bell Blevins of Rhodell and the late Wiley Blevins.
The Rev. Blevins was a graduate of Stoco High School. He was ordained into the ministry at Eversprings Independent Missionary Baptist Church in Ohio on Nov. 8, 1975. He pastored several years at Zion Hill Baptist Church and Uler Memorial in Roane County. He was the current pastor at Princewick Missionary Baptist Church. He attended Bible College in Toledo, Ohio. He earned his BA in Theology in 2002 and was currently seeking his MA in Theology from Christian Bible College in Rocky Mount, N.C.
He was a U.S. Navy veteran. Mr. Blevins was a former employee of the Ford Motor Co. in Lorain, Ohio and the Volkswagon Stamping Manufacturing Plant in South Charleston.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife of 23 years, Betty Lafferty Blevins; a daughter, Tammy Blevins of Sophia; a son, Wiley Blevins of New York; three stepdaughters, Mary Lester and husband, Randy, of Piney Flats, Tenn., Karen Lancaster of Sophia and Jackie Higginbotham and husband, Kevin, of Newton; two brothers, Kenneth Blevins and wife, Viola, of Lester and Jim Blevins and wife, Gladys, of Beaver; a grandson, Trevor Matheney; six step-grandchildren, Randy Lester, Sarah West, Rebekah and Bruce Hayes, Arin and Bethany Higginbotham.
Services will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Blue Ridge Funeral Home Chapel, Beckley, with the Rev. David Cook officiating. Burial will follow in Mooney Mountain Cemetery, Tommy Creek Hollow, Rhodell. Military graveside rights will be conducted by the VFW Post 4326 Sophia Midway.
Friends may call from 6 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Men of the church will serve as pallbearers.

Christy Lynn Fain
STATESVILLE, N.C. - Christy Lynn Fain, 27, formerly of Rupert, died Friday, July 25, 2003, at Crawley, following a sudden illness.
Born Feb. 7, 1976, at Lexington, Ky., she was a daughter of Wayne Carpenter of Versailles, Ky., and Sheila Fain Newman of Rupert.
Christy was visiting friends and relatives in the area and was a mother and a homemaker.
She was preceded in death by her maternal grandfather, Raymond Fain.
Survivors include a daughter, Savannah Kay Danielle Turner, 7, at home in States-ville, N.C.; a son, Zackery Cody Tyler Fain, 4, at home in Statesville, N.C.; mother Sheila Fain Newman of Rupert; fianc�, Billy Turner of Statesville, N.C.; a sister, Alicia Newman Fain of States-ville, N.C.; two brothers, Donnie Lee Sloan II of Livermore, Ky., and Eric Sylvester Sloan of Livermore, Ky; and grandmother, Hazel Fain of Howardstown, Ky.
Services will be 2 p.m. Thursday at the Wallace and Wallace Chapel in Rainelle, with the Rev. Robert Newman officiating. Burial will follow at Wallace Memorial Cemetery, Clintonville.
Friends may call one hour prior to services at the funeral home.

Helen Fern Flanagan
JUMPING BRANCH - Helen Fern Flanagan, 86, died Saturday, July 26, 2003, in Summers County ARH Hospital, following a long illness.
Born June 25, 1917, in Fort Fairfield, Maine, she was the daughter of the late Daniel M. and Isabelle Jones Simmons.
Ms. Flanagan was employed for many years in the electronics industry as a quality control inspector.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Walter Krol; and by her second husband, Frank Flanagan.
Survivors include two sons, Ed Krol and wife, Madonna, of Glen Dale, Ariz., and Daniel J. Krol of Redondo Beach, Calif.; one daughter, Susan Leighton and husband, Rick, of Jumping Branch; two sisters, Mildred "Babe" Topping of Maryville, Tenn. and Dawn Deschesne of Fort Fairfield, Maine; five grandchildren, Jed, Jeffrey, and Jason Krol and Melissa and Jenna Leighton.
The body has been cremated and a memorial service will be held at a later date.

Nola Green
PINEVILLE - Nola Edna Tilley Green, 93, died Monday, July 28, 2003, at her residence, following a long illness.
Born Nov. 12, 1909, at Cabin Creek, Wyoming County, she was the daughter of the late Charley S. and Juda "Cathy" Bu-chanan Til-ley.
Mrs. Green was a devoted Christian, loved the Lord and loved attending church. She loved being close to her family and friends and especially enjoyed family reunions. Her husband, Virgil, was a quiet man, so we knew the reunions were a time mother could have a lot of people to talk with.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Virgil Green, brothers, Archie Tilley, Ray Tilley, Paul Tilley, Bill Tilley and Fred Tilley; and sisters, Ina Gunter, Virgie Reid and Corbia Pendry.
Survivors include two daughters, Joyce Balderson and husband, Winston, of Warsaw, Va., and Pat Adams of Pineville; a son, Kenny Green and wife, Laura, of Princeton; a sister, Bonnie Rose of Houston, Texas; a brother, Boyd Tilley and wife, Gyneth, of Keyrock; grandchildren, Terri Gwinn and husband, L.L., Eddie Adams, Yvonne Adams, Kevin Balderson and wife, Gretchen, Derrick Balderson and wife, Kathleen, and Lauren Green; five great-grandchildren, Dee Dee and Taylor Gwinn, Bridgett and Brett Balderson and Eddie Adams; sisters-in-law, Edna Belcher, Bessie Green, Josie Sutphin and husband, H.D., and Naomi Green; brother-in-law, Jesse Green and wife, Norma Lee; three very special and loving caregivers, Tereasa Barnette, Frances Criss and Ronda Lester; and many nieces and nephews.
Services will be 1 p.m. Thursday at the New Richmond Chapel, with the Rev. Larry England officiating. Burial will follow in Privett Cemetery, Keyrock.
Friends may call from 6 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Pallbearers will be Gary Green, Danny Pendry, Eddie Adams, L.L. Gwinn, Kevin Balderson, Derrick Balderson and Shawn Tilley.

Zelia Bailey Morgan
OCEANA - Zelia Bailey Morgan, 93, died Saturday, July 26, 2003, at the residence of her daughter, Polly Jones of Oceana, with whom she made her home.
Born Jan. 27, 1910, at Hanover, she was the daughter of the late Crocket and Louise Lester Bailey.
Mrs. Morgan was a member of the Apostolic House of Faith and was a loving wife, mother and grandmother who enjoyed her family and friends.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, Walter Harmon Morgan; four sisters, Lula Clay Adair, Cloy Adair, Armita Walker and Martha Bishop; a brother, Ance Bailey; three sons, A.R. Morgan, Ted Morgan and Ott Morgan; four grandsons, Walter Wesley Carter, Jimmy Darrell Carter, Brian Keith and Russell Adams; and a granddaughter, Theresa Morgan Toler.
Survivors include five daughters, Polly Jones and her husband, Grant, of Oceana, Ethel Kennedy of Simon, Leona Carter of Wyoming, Adelene Adams and her husband, Nolan, of Clear Fork and Babe Toler and her husband, Ray, of Simon; three sons, Frank Morgan and his wife, Jean, of Simon, Clarence Morgan and his wife, Wanda, of Ikes Fork and Jackie Morgan and his wife, Bonnie, of Simon; a sister, Nanny May Harvey of Columbus, Ohio; and a daughter-in-law, Angeline Morgan of Gilbert.
She also leaves behind 54 grandchildren; 93 great-grandchildren; and 36 great-great-grandchildren.
Service will be 1 p.m. Thursday at the Upper Room Jesus Name Church at Simon with the Revs. Curtis Stafford, Rocky Morgan and Johnny Jones, Evangelist Joshua Jones and Brother Andrew Thompson officiating. Burial will follow in the Morgan Family Cemetery, Simon.
The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. today until the time of the service on Thursday at the church.

Betty Lee Blackburn Paszek
CORINNE - Betty Lee Blackburn Paszek, 73, died Sunday, July 27, 2003, at a Beckley hospital.
Born Nov. 7, 1929, at Helen, she was the daughter of the late Forrest and Verda Cook Matherly.
Mrs. Paszek was a homemaker, a retired assembly worker in Chicago and was of the Baptist faith.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Clarence (Pep) Blackburn; and her second husband, John Paszek; one sister, Mildred Moore; and three brothers, Tom, Frank and Paul Matherly.
Survivors include one daughter, Vicky Wojtas and husband, Tom, of Chicago, Ill.; two sons, Allen Blackburn and wife, Carol, of Houston, Texas and Keith Paszek of Chicago, Ill; one brother, Jim Matherly of Phoenix, Ariz.; two grandchildren, Christopher and Tim Blackburn of Florida.
Services will be 11 a.m. Thursday at the Tankersley Funeral Home Chapel, with the Rev. Ruth Foster officiating. Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Park, Beckley.

Della Pendleton, 88, of Pinecrest Hospital in Beckley, formerly of 172 Railroad Ave., Hinton, died Monday, July 28, 2003, in Raleigh General Hospital, following a long illness.
Born Nov. 19, 1914, at Quinimont, she was the daughter of the late Rister and Laura Waddy Brown.
She was a member of the Second Baptist Church in Hinton and was a homemaker.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Willie "Bill" Pendleton in 1974; and a brother, Allen Brown in 2003.
Survivors include a stepson, Thomas Pendleton of Baltimore, Md.; a special friend, Laura Carter of Hinton; and several cousins.
Services will be 1 p.m. Thursday at Pivont Funeral Home Chapel in Hinton, with the Rev. Billy Galloway officiating. Burial will be in the Talcott Cemetery at Talcott.
