Louise Brannan

Louise Brannan, 64, of Live Oak, went to be with the Lord after a lengthy illness on Sunday, Jan. 16, 2005. The Suwannee County native retired after 10 years as a courier for Lab. Corp. in Gainesville and was a member of Friendship Baptist Church, Live Oak.

Survivors include her husband, Bobby Brannan Sr. of Live Oak; two daughters, Regina (Regi) Rathbun of Live Oak and Gwen Brannan of Live Oak; two sons, Bobby (Rita) Brannan Jr. of O’Brien and Terry (Michele) Brannan of McAlpin; four sisters, Margie Davis of Augusta, Ga., Ruby Fouraker of Jasper, Barbara Shine and Voncile Skeen, both of Live Oak; one brother, Jimmy Wells of Lake City; six grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Woodrow and Gladys Wells and son, Tommy Brannan.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m., today, Wednesday, Jan. 19, at Friendship Baptist Church of Live Oak with the Rev. David Teems officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.

Daniels Funeral Home of Live Oak is in charge of all arrangements.

W.A. Green Jr.

W.A. Green Jr., 67, of Live Oak, passed away on Monday, Jan. 17, 2005, in the Lake City Medical Center after a long illness. He lived in Live Oak all of his life, was the owner of Green’s Well Drilling in Live Oak for 20 years and was a member of Shady Grove Baptist Church, Live Oak.

Survivors include his wife, Jeanie Green of Live Oak; three daughters, Kathy Harris and Cindy Young, both of Live Oak and Peggy Dudley of Branford; two sons, Buddy Green of Live Oak and Steve Green of Lake City; two sisters, Ginger Wilbanks and Sudie Taylor, both of Live Oak; one brother, Barney Green of Live Oak; 16 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m., today, Wednesday, Jan. 19, at Corinth Baptist Church, Hamilton County, with the Rev. Louis Berry officiating.

Daniels Funeral Home of Live Oak is in charge of all arrangements.

Frank Ross

Frank Ross, 82, of Live Oak, passed away Monday, Jan. 17, 2005, in North Florida Regional Medical Center in Gainesville after a brief illness. The Suwannee County native retired after 30 years with Farmers Co-Op in Live Oak as assistant manager. Ross was a U.S. Army veteran serving during World War II, a member of Westwood Baptist Church in Live Oak and served on the Suwannee Quarterback Club board of directors.

Survivors include his wife, Eula Ross of Live Oak; two sons, John Wayne (Valerie) Ross of Tifton, Ga. and James Leon (Peggy) Ross of Valdosta, Ga.; two step-daughters, Peggy (Jim) Bullock of Tampa and Nancy (Keith) Daniels of Live Oak; one sister, Angie Mae Kidd of Victoria, Texas; 11 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m., Thursday, Jan. 20, at Westwood Baptist Church with Dr. Jimmy Deas and Mr. Bobby Harrell officiating. Interment will follow in Crawford Lake Cemetery, McAlpin.

Daniels Funeral Home of Live Oak is in charge of all arrangements.

Lorene Mitchell Weldon

Lorene Mitchell Weldon, 99, of Lynn Haven, passed away Sunday, Jan. 16, 2005, at a local nursing facility. She was born in Live Oak and moved to the Lynn Haven area in 1946 after serving with the WAC’s as a dental assistant. Weldon worked with her husband, the late Ernest W. Weldon, DDS, as a dental assistant for more than 40 years. She was also a longtime member of First Baptist Church of Lynn Haven where she sang with The Silver Bells. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1985.

Survivors include several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 20, at Southerland Family Funeral Home in Lynn Haven with the Rev. Tom Daniels officiating. Interment will follow at Forest Lawn Mausoleum.

A time of visitation will be held prior to services from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions to First Baptist Church of Lynn Haven.

Mateas Toray
Mateas Toraya, 87, passed away on Thursday, Dec. 2, 2004, in Dowling Park. He was born in Williamstown, Vt. on Dec. 5, 1916, to Ramon and Soledad Gomez Toraya. Toraya was a lifelong lover of nature and an avid outdoorsman. He graduated from Spauling High School in Barre, Vt. in 1934, served in the CCC before entering the Navy where he served in World War II and retired as a Chief Warrant Officer in 1956. He graduated from the University of Miami, then taught high school mathematics in South Florida for 15 years before he retired to Central Florida. Toraya was preceded in death by his first wife Wanda and his second wife Lena.

Toraya will always be loved and remembered for his kind and caring ways by his children, Wanda Toraya (Butch) Fallin of Live Oak; Cecilia Donofrio of Ocala, Cynthia Toraya (Steve) Cochran of Bozeman, Mont. and Ramon Toraya of Ocala; sisters Rose Willett (Lionel) and Paquina (Pete) Peterson of Barre, Vt.; grandchildren, Kelli Spears, Shelly Donofrio and Dustin Toraya; and two great-grandsons, Taylor McCall and Clint Spears.

Memorial services were held at Florida National Cemetery, Bushnell on Dec. 7 with military honors.

Cameron J. Freeman
Cameron J. Freeman, 2, of Live Oak, passed away on Saturday, Dec. 4, 2004.

He is survived by his mother Lynn Freeman of Live Oak; seven brothers, Ryan Rehkop, Ronnie Turner and Cody Turner, all of Live Oak; Casey Freeman, Cody Freeman, Ethan Freeman and Tyler Johnson, all of Macclenny; maternal grandparents Jean and Robert Rehkop of Live Oak; maternal great-grandparent Elizabeth Evans of Live Oak; and paternal grandparents Gene and Paulette Freeman of Glen Saint Mary.

Funeral services were conducted at 11 a.m., Tuesday, Dec. 7, in Westwood Baptist Church, with Dr. Jimmy Deas officiating. Interment followed in Mt. Willing Cemetery.

Daniels Funeral Home, Inc., Live Oak was in charge of all arrangements.

Florence K. Bailey
Florence K. Bailey, a homemaker, age 83, passed away Monday, November 22, 2004, at her residence in Mayo, after a lengthy illness in the loving care of her daughter Mary Ann Bowden and her son-in-law, Thomas. She was a Baptist and a member of Mayo Baptist Church for 25 years. Mrs. Bailey was a devoted mother and grandmother, and great grandmother and she enjoyed cooking, baking and volunteering.

Mary Lou Wilkerson
Mary Lou Wilkerson, age 85, of Woodstock, Georgia, died Sunday, November 21, 2004, at Haven House Hospice in Atlanta. She was a former resident of Lake Alfred, Florida, and Valdosta, Georgia. Wilkerson had lived in Woodstock since 1996.

Survivors include three daughters: Betty Bronham of Akin, South Carolina, Donna W. Beazley of Woodstock, and Jo-Ann W. Bennett of Woodbridge, Virginia; one grandson, three granddaughters, and 10 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, November 23, 2004, at Hillside United Methodist Church in Woodstock. Dr. Richard A. Hunter, Reverend Rhonda Howell, and Reverend Ben Walker officiated. Graveside services were held Wednesday, November 24, 2004, at Sunset Hills Cemetery in Valdosta, Georgia, with Reverend Ben Walker officiating.

Woodstock Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Kenneth N. Scaff
Kenneth N. Scaff, age 79, of Jasper, Florida, passed away Thursday, November 25, 2004, at North Florida Regional Medical Center in Gainesville, following a brief illness. The Hamilton County native and lifelong resident was born May 30, 1925, to the late Jim and Nora Scaff. He served in the Merchant Marines during World War II and in the US Army during the Korean Conflict. Scaff owned and operated Scaff’s Standard Station for 38 years and was a farmer.

Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Margaret Scaff; one son and daughter-in-law, Sonny and Kathy Scaff, all of Jasper; two sisters: Nora Evelyn (Stafford) Caldwell of Gainesville, Florida, and Margaret S. Tuten of Jasper; and two grandchildren: Kent and Ashley Scaff of Jasper.

Graveside services were held Saturday, November 27, 2004, at New Hope Baptist Church Cemetery with Reverend Wendell Hill officiating.

Memorial contributions may be made to Florida Sheriffs Boys Ranch, Boys Ranch, Florida, 32060 or to New Hope Baptist Church, 6592 NW 48th Street, Jennings, Florida, 32053.

Harry T. Reid was in charge of arrangements.

Lester Hurst
Lester Hurst, age 84, of Jasper, Florida, passed away Wednesday, November 24, 2004, at Lake City VA Medical Center in Lake City, Florida, following a brief illness. Hurst was born in O’Brien, Florida on December 16, 1919, to the late Wiley and Geneva Hurst. He was a World War II veteran of the United States Army and of the Baptist faith.

Survivors include one daughter, Linda Morgan of Jasper; two step-sons: Hollie (Grace) McDonald and Dwayne (Dorothy) McDonald; a step-daughter, Gloria (Leon) McGauley; two brothers: Hubert Hurst, Darien, Georgia, and Billy Hurst, Live Oak, Florida; three sisters: Dorothy Vanosdol, Gladys Hand, and Pauline Hogan, all of Jasper; one grandson, Keith (Melissa ) Morgan; two great-granddaughters: Brittney and Brandy Morgan; 11 step-grandchildren, 15 step-great-grandchildren, and 5 step-great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Saturday, November 27, 2004, in the chapel of Harry T. Reid Funeral Home with Pastor Bill White officiating. Interment followed in Evergreen Cemetery, Jasper, Florida.
