Mrs. Eugene A. Casanova
OPELOUSAS - Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, August 3, 2000, at Lafond-Ardoin Funeral Home Chapel for Mrs. Eugene A. Casanova, 69, the former Jennie Presley, who died at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday, August 1, 2000, at Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital.
Reverend Henry Blount will officiate for the services. Burial will be held in Myrtle Grove Cemetery.
Visitation will be observed on Thursday from 1 p.m. until the time of services.
Survivors include her husband, Eugene “Gene” A. Casanova of Estherwood; one daughter, Jennifer Casanova of Eunice; one brother, Steve Presley of Westlake; and one sister, Mr. R.W. Haile of Metairie; and two grandchildren, John Austin and Lauren Seale.
Mrs. Casanova was preceded in death by her parents, Melvin Steven Presley and Gertrude Cole Presley; and one brother, Marion Presley.
She was owner of Casanova Optical and Hearing Aid Center. She served as a board member of the Acadia Parish Library and was instrumental in starting the Estherwood Recreation Department. She was also active in the formation of the Cerebral Palsy Clinic.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, August 5, 2000, at Israelite Baptist Church for Mrs. Lois Louise Toby, 64, who died on Thursday, July 27, 2000, at American Legion Hospital in Crowley.
Reverend Ivan Lewis will officiate for the services. Burial will be held in West Crowley Cemetery.
Wake services will be held on Friday from 6-10 p.m. at the church.
Survivors include her husband, Hercules Toby of Crowley; two daughters, Mechelle Toby and Jacqueline Alexander, both of Crowley; two sisters, Lora B. Edwards of Lake Charles and Jeanolia W. Ima Lee Lancaster Adams
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, August 4, 2000, at First Baptist Church of Crowley for Ima Lee Adams, 87, the former Ima Lee Lancaster, who died at 6:10 a.m. Tuesday, August 1, 2000, in Our Lady of Lourdes Regional Medical Center in Lafayette. She had been a resident of Maison de Lafayette in Lafayette for over a year. The Reverend Alan Knuckles will conduct the services.
Survivors include one daughter, Barbara Ann Adams Williams Merritt of Texarkana, Texas; one son, Jerry P. Adams of Lafayette; five sisters, Marie Elsberry of Beaumont, Texas, Dorothy Jennings of Tyler, Texas, Bobbie Duncan of Friendswood, Texas, Mary Lou Thompson of Van, Texas, and Martha Sue Harper of Longview, Texas; seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Wylie Marvin Adams; her parents, Huey Curtis Lancaster and the former Bobbie Marshall; one brother, Curtis Junior Lancaster; and two sisters, Angie Harkins and Louise Lancaster, all of Texas.
Born in Gary, Texas, and a resident of Crowley since 1951, Mrs. Adams was a faithful member of First Baptist Church in Crowley and a longtime secretary of the Fidelis Sunday School Class. She belonged to the church’s JOY Club and was a member of the Rebekahs. She is remembered as a kind and gracious lady and a devoted mother and grandmother.
Visiting hours will be observed at Geesey-Ferguson Funeral Home, 301 North Avenue F, Crowley from 4-9 p.m. Thursday, August 3 and o on Friday from 8 a.m. until noon and at First Baptist Church, 228 East Fourth Street, Crowley on Friday from 1 p.m. until the time of services.
Pallbearers will be Ray Williams, Neal Williams, Kyle Williams, Layne Williams, Paul Adams and Monte Curran.
In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that contributions in her memory be made to either First Baptist Church in Crowley or Emmanuel Baptist Church, 101 Marie Antoinette, Lafayette, La. 70506.
Interment will take place in Maxie Cemetery.

Alfred Paul Robinson
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, August 5, at St. Theresa’s Catholic Church for Alfred Paul Robinson, 65, of Lafayette, who died on Friday, July 28, 2000, at Amelia Manor in Lafayette.
Burial will be held in South Crowley Cemetery. Father Raymond Carignan, S.S.J., will officiate.
Visitation will be held from 8 to 10 a.m. Saturday at the church.
Survivors include two aunts, Mable Robertson of Lake Charles and Edith Joseph of Abbeville; and two uncles, Irving Robertson of Beaumont, Texas, and Clarence Robertson of Lake Charles.

MOWATA - Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, August 8, 2000, at St. Lawrence Catholic Church for Eva Daigle Klein, 96, who died at 4:44 a.m. Monday, August 7, 2000, at Crowley American Legion Hospital.
Father George Heffner will officiate for the services. Burial will be held in St. Lawrence Cemetery in Mowata.
Visitation was observed on Monday from 5-10 p.m. and will be observed on Tuesday from 8 a.m. until the time of services.
Survivors include two daughters, Loraine K. Schultz and her husband, Gerald of Mowata, and Mona Ward and her husband, Charlie of Crowley; one brother, Leslie Daigle of Roanoke; grandchildren, Susie Schultz, Jeffery Schultz, Carla Thevis and her husband, Jeffery; Lennie Ward and his wife, Dawn; and Michael Ward; great-grandchildren, Karl and Emily Thevis, David Lynn Ward, Maegan Ward, Jarrad Ward, Ashley Ward and Blanche Ward; and two sisters, Mrs. Inez Frey of Iota and Mrs. Corine Judice of Lake Charles.

MERMENTAU - Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Monday, August 7, 2000, at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church for Theresa Hulin, 86, who died at her residence at 7:08 p.m. Saturday, August 5, 2000.
Reverend Rusty P. Richard officiated for the services. Burial was held in St. John the Evangelist Cemetery.
Survivors include one son, Walter L. Hulin of Port Arthur, Texas; two daughters, Mrs. Louis (Rida) Schexnider of Crowley and Mrs. Linda Hulin Landry of Jennings; one sister, Mrs. Aldes (Aurelia) O’Blanc of Lake Arthur; 10 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren.
She was a native of Lake Arthur and a resident of Mermentau.

EUNICE - Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, August 8, 2000, at St. Anthony Catholic Church for Donadieu “D.D.” Lalonde, 86, who died at his residence at 4 p.m. Saturday, August 5, 2000.
Burial was held in Ashford Cemetery in Duralde.
Survivors include his wife, Leonie Lalonde of Eunice; one daughter, Maggie Vidrine of Eunice; three stepdaughters, Laura Fontenot of Lafayette and Betty Mitchell and Juanita Morrow, both of Crowley; one half brother, Edmund Lalonde of Port Barre; three half sisters, Elvina Lanclos of Duralde, Edna Daire of Port Barre and Shirley Gravois of Port Allen; two grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; 10 step grandchildren and 17 step great-grandchildren.

NEW IBERIA - Myrna M. Rabeaux, 67, died at 6:58 a.m. Tuesday, August 29, 2000, at IHS of Heritage South Hospital. Mrs. Rabeaux donated her body to science for the advancement of medical research.

MOWATA - Elmer James Bergeron Sr., 77, died at 11 p.m. Monday, August 28, 2000, at Eunice Regional Medical Center. A native of Cameron, she was a resident of Morse and a homemaker.
She is preceded in death by her mother, Hortence S. Eagleson.

Delva Gilbert Fleming
BEAUMONT, TEXAS - Graveside services were held at 1 p.m. Sunday, August 27, at Forest Lawn Memorial Park for Mrs. Delva Gilbert Fleming, 75, of Kerrville, Texas, who died Wednesday, August 23.
Rev. Ervin Morgan, Mrs. Fleming’s nephew, officiated for the services.
Survivors include her husband, J.W. Fleming of Kerrville; one son, E.J. Gilbert Jr. of Spring, Texas; one sister, Wilma Rumery of Vinton; one sister-in-law, Ouida Nelson of Crowley; and one brother-in-law, J.L. Gilbert of Cassiville, Mo.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Elloitt Joseph Gilbert; her parents, George Bourgeois and Elia Boone Bourgeois; and three brothers and sister, Joseph Bourgeois, Rudi Paul Bourgeois and Evelyn Bourgeois.
A native of Iota, she lived in Beaumont for several years. She was a graduate of Iota High School and was a retired Avon Sales Manager.

KAPLAN - Belle Hebert Wiggins, 88, of Crowley, died at 5:50 p.m. Saturday, August 26, at the Crowley Guest House. Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. on Monday, August 28, at Vincent Funeral Home. Burial was held at Kaplan Cemetery. Vincent Funeral Home of Kaplan was in charge of arrangements.

Homer James Stewart
Lt. Col. Homer James Stewart, 79, died at his residence in Sequim, Wash., after a long battle with cancer. “Stu” to his friends, Col. Stewart was born in Walla Walla, Wash., in 1929 to Leslie and Josephine Schreiber Stewart. After serving in World War II, he married Lea Anna Elberson.
With their three children, the Stewarts traveled the world for 30 years while he served in the U.S. Air Force. During his military career, Col. Stewart received many honors including the Distinquished Flying Cross, the Bronze Star, and the Air Medal, the Meritorious Service Medal. At the end of World War II he flew with the famed Flying Tigers over China.
Stu and his wife Lea Anna have lived in Sequim for the past 14 years, during which they were members of St. Joseph’s Church, the Strait Men choral group, and Sunland Country Club.
Survivors include his wife, Lea Anna Stewart; two daughters, Cassandray Whellams of Orcas Island, Wash., and Jan Thomas of Yakima, Wash.; a son, Jeffery Stewart of Portland, Ore.; and his brother, Bob Stewart of Phoenix, Ariz.; six grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
The memorial Mass will be held at St. Joseph’s in Sequim Thursday, Aug. 31, at 11 a.m. Graveside service with military honors will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 2, at the Mountain View Cemetery in Walla Walla.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be sent to Hospice of Clallam County, P.O. Box 2014, Port Angeles, WA 98362.

Rustin Roy Cassedy
Funeral services are set for today at 4 p.m. in St. Michael’s Catholic Church for Rustin Roy Cassedy, infant, who died Sunday, Aug. 27, at Lafayette General Medical Center.
Burial is at St. Joseph Mausoleum in Rayne, Fr. Louis Richard officiating.
Survivors include his parents, Rustin M. and Gretchen Zaunbrecher Cassedy of Crowley; one sister, Caroline Elise Cassedy of Crowley; maternal grandparents, Steve and Maxie Zaunbrecher of Elton, and Shelby Jean Truax of Houston, Texas; paternal grandparents, Ashton and Elaine L. Cassedy of Crowley; maternal great-grandparents, Ella Stanford of Egan; and his paternal great-grandmother, Josie Allen Cassedy Rollison of Statesboro, Ga.
Rustin was preceded in death by his maternal great-grandfather, Frank August Zaungrecher and his paternal great-grandparents, George Roy and Jeanne Chauvin LeBlanc.

Funeral services will be held today, Tuesday, Aug. 29, 2000 at 2 p.m. at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church for Irene “Schwin” Istre Vincent, 84, who died Sunday, Aug. 27, 2000 at 9:16 p.m. at American Legion Hospital in Crowley.
Fr. Gerry Siebold will officiate for the services. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery.
The visitation was held on Monday, Aug. 28, from 3:30 to 10 p.m. and today from 8 a.m. to service time. A rosary was recited at 7 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Mrs. Vincent was a member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church. She was a homemaker and spent a number of years working with her son at G & R Printing.

Mr. Leonards was preceded in death by his parents, Lawrence and Augusta Zaunbrecher Leonards; two sisters, Johanna and Lidwina Leonards; three brothers, Vincent, Norbert and Raymond Leonards.
Mr. Leonards was a member of Knights of Columbus Council 1318, Serra Club, St. Leo IV Holy Name Society, St. Michael Perpetual Adoration Society. He was a retired rice and cattle farmer having farmed for 60 years.

Michael David Hoffpauir
HOUSTON - Michael David Hoffpauir, 46, passed away Monday, August 7, 2000. He was a 1973 graduate of Clear Lake High School. He served in the U.S. Marines for six years.
He is preceded in death by his father, Harvey Ellis Hoffpauir.
Survivors include his mother, Clara R. Hoffpauir; brothers, John Hoffpauir and wife, Janet of LaPorte, Texas, and Philip R. Hoffpauir of Honolulu, Hawaii; sister, Cheryl A. Mr. Boone was a native and resident of Evangeline. He was a retired oilfield pumper for 45 years. He also worked for the South Pacific Railroad and was employed at Gulf States as a lineman. He served in World War II in the United States Army.

Blanche Cart Carter
Born August 28, 1904, in Iota to Joseph Neville and Clemence McFarlain Cart. She died on Saturday, August 19, 2000, in Houston, Texas. She was married to Charles Carter, who preceded her in death.
She grew up in Iota and later moved to Lake Charles, where she graduated from Lake Charles High School.
She was the youngest of ten children, who all preceded her in death. Her brothers and sisters were Eliza Fletcher, Marie Reed, Dora Reed, Lucy Cart Bernard, Famous Cart, Rosa Cart LeJeune, Raoul Cart, Gilbert Cart and Mae Cart Milner.
After her marriage to Charles Carter of Lake Charles, they moved to Houston, Texas, where she lived for the past 40 years.
She was a member of First United Methodist Church of Houston, Texas.
She is survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
Graveside services will be held at 3 p.m. Tuesday, August 22, 2000, at Greenwood Cemetery in Jennings. Reverend Henry Prentice will conduct the services.

Elrida Trahan Breaux
LAFAYETTE - Funeral services will be held on Saturday, August 12, 2000, at a 2 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial in La Chapelle de Martin and Castille for Elrida Trahan Breaux, age 63, who died on Wednesday, August 9, 2000, at 8:10 p.m. at her Lafayette residence.
Interment will be in Fountain Memorial Gardens.
The Rev. Floyd J. Calais of Lafayette will be the celebrant of the funeral Mass and will conduct the services. The Very Reverend Monsignor Russell J. Harrington, VE, administrator, Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Church of Mire will con-celebrate. Valerie Andrus, organist, will sing for the funeral Mass.
Survivors include her husband, John Breaux of Lafayette; one daughter and son-in-law, Karen and Paul Miers Sr. of Lafayette; four grandchildren, Kimberly, Tracy, Allison and Paul Miers Jr.; and one sister, Rena Richard of Welsh. She was preceded in death by her parents and one sister.
A native of Morse and a former resident of Baton Rouge for 25 years, Mrs. Breaux had been a resident of Lafayette for the past eight years. She was the daughter of the late Clamile Trahan of Morse and the former Gladys Woods of Morse.
Mrs. Breaux was a member of the Holy Cross Catholic Community of Lafayette.
A rosary will be prayed on Friday at 7 p.m. in the funeral home.
Visiting hours will be observed on Friday from 10 a.m. until 9 p.m. and on Saturday from 9 a.m. until the time of services on Saturday.
Memorial contributions in Mrs. Breaux’s name may be made to Hospice of Acadiana, 2600 Johnston Street, Suite 200, Lafayette, La. 70503.
Pallbearers will be Paul Miers Sr., Paul Miers Jr., Travis Laurent, Michael Woods, Don Bonnie and Lawrence Mallett.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Martin and Castille Funeral Home Inc. of Lafayette.

Vivian Bernard Benoit
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, August 12, 2000, at St. Theresa Catholic Church for Vivian Bernard Benoit, 68, who died at 4:15 a.m. Monday, August 7, 2000, at Crowley American Legion Hospital.
Father Raymond Carignan, SSJ, will officiate for the services. Burial will be held in South Crowley Cemetery.
Visitation will be observed at the church on Friday, August 11 from 6-9 p.m. and on Saturday from 8 a.m. until the time of services.
Survivors include her husband, Algie Benoit; four daughters, Mrs. John (Marla) Henderson of Marshall, Texas, Alichia Benoit, Mrs. Terry (Vivian) Barker and Mrs. Danny (Roxanna) Montgomery, all of Crowley; one son, David Benoit and his wife, Elizabeth of San Bernadino, California; one daughter-in-law, Mrs. Violet Benoit of Crowley; one sister, Mrs. Murphy Lillian Bates of Crowley and 14 grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Louise and Charlie Bernard Sr.; two sons, Johnathan and Patrick Benoit; one brother, Charlie Bernard Jr.; and three sisters, Rosita Scott, Mildred Ledet and Glady Jennings.
The family would like to take this time to say thank you to Dr. Rainey and his staff at Louisiana Oncology Clinic, Dr. Gardiner, Dr. Ben Sabbaghian and the staff at American Legion Hospital for the wonderful care given to our loved one.

Debra Ann Ayers
JENNINGS - Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, August 11, 2000, at Matthews and Son Funeral Home for Debra Ann Ayers, 46, who died at 5:40 a.m. on Tuesday, August 8, 2000, at Lake Charles Memorial Hospital.
Reverend Ed McNally will officiate for the services.
Visitation will be observed on Friday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of services.
Survivors include her husband, Kenneth Randy Ayers of Lake Charles; one son, Dury Kenneth Ayers of England; one daughter, Mrs. Wesley (Jeri Angel) Fleming of Lake Charles; one step daughter, Mrs. Keoki (Victoria) Heukolani of Las Vegas, Nevada; parents, Mr. and Mrs. Larry (Ruby) Guidry of Evangeline; two brothers, Larry Guidry Jr. of Crowley and Wayne Guidry of Evangeline; three sisters, Mrs. Chris (Peggy) Trahan of Crowley, Marilyn Prather of Crowley and Mrs. Todd (Leslie) Benoit of Welsh; and one granddaughter, Kaitlyn Fleming of Lake Charles.
A resident of Lake Charles, she was a graduate of Midland High School. She served in the United States Air Force for two and one half years. She was employed by the Federal Civil Service for 12 years.

Edward Francis Bavery
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, August 12, 2000, at First Presbyterian Church in Crowley for Edward Francis Bavery, 77, who died at 7 a.m. Wednesday, August 9, 2000, at his home in Crowley.
Visitation will be observed at the funeral home on Friday from 10 a.m. until 9 p.m. and at the church on Saturday from 8 a.m. until the time of services.
Edward Bavery was born March 20, 1923, in Oregon, Wisconsin, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Eugene Bavery.
Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Mrs. Elaine Dunphy Bavery and two daughters, Caryl N. Coleman and her husband, Rich of Ashland, Kentucky, and Melinda Malmay and her husband, Bill of Crowley; one brother, Russell Bavery of Oregon, Wisconsin; his grandchildren are Melanie H. Salyer of Raleigh, North Carolina, Leigh Ann and Daniel P. Helo of Ashland, Kentucky, and Megan E. Malmay of Crowley. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Eugene and Rose Bavery; his brothers, Eugene Bavery of Pasadena, California, and Lloyd Bavery of Oregon, Wisconsin, and a sister, Geneva Terasa of Madison, Wisconsin.
Eddie was a past member of the Masonic Lodge; Past Chaplain of the American Legion Post 15. He served from 1943 to 1946 in the U.S. Army Air Corps as a Master Sergeant with the 44th Bombardment Squadron and was employed by Southern Pacific Railroad for 40 years. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church where he served as Deacon and Elder. Additionally, he served as treasurer for 21 years.
Pallbearers include Darrell Hustad, Kenny Bavery, John Foux, Darrel Sing, Byron Rue, Dean Schulz, Rich Coleman and Steve Mire.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, August 10, 2000, at Geesey-Ferguson Funeral Home Chapel for Marguerite Hollier Hayes, 74, who died at 5:50 a.m. Tuesday, August 8, 2000, at St. Patrick Hospital in Lake Charles.
Father Louis Richard will officiate for the services. Burial will be held in Indian Bayou Cemetery.
Visitation will be observed on Wednesday from 11 a.m. until 10 p.m. and on Thursday from 8 a.m. until the time of services.
Survivors include two sons, Simon John Hayes and his wife, Anna of Lake Charles and Cecil “Jake” Hayes of Lake Charles; one daughter, Rebecca Ann Hayes of Lake Charles; four grandchildren, John William Hayes of Georgia, Donald James Hayes of Houston, Mary Alice Hayes and Heather Kathleen Hayes of Lake Charles; and two great-grandchildren, Patrick Hayes and Aaron Hayes.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Simon and Mary Segura Hollier; husband, Cecil Hayes; brother, Donald Hollier; sister, Mary Alice “Bitsy” Leleux.

Hazel Dupuis Potier
Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Wednesday, August 9, 2000, at Geesey-Ferguson Funeral Home Chapel for Hazel Dupuis Potier, 78, who died at 8:55 p.m. Monday, August 7, 2000, at Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Lafayette.
Reverend Truman Stagg will officiate for the services. Burial will be held in Woodlawn Cemetery.
Visitation was observed on Tuesday from 6 p.m. until 10 p.m. and will be observed on Wednesday from 8 a.m. until the time of services.
Survivors include her husband, Edmond “Sonny” Potier of Crowley; one son, John Ed Potier of Ennis, Texas; three grandchildren, Peter Burleigh, Michele Murphy and Elizabeth Potier; five great-grandchildren, Chase, Colby, Brennon, Samantha and Kylie; and one sister, Maxine Moffitt of Eunice.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Hubert and Edith Dupuis and one son, Robert Potier.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Edlar Monte; her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Felix LeBlanc; four brothers, Francis, Henry, Augustine and Jessie LeBlanc; and two sisters, Loretta Baronet and Pauline Perry.
She was a member of the Catholic Daughters, Ladies Altar Society and the Rosary Group of Rayne.

Visitation was observed on Monday from 10 a.m. until 10 p.m. and will be observed on Tuesday from 8 a.m. until the time of services.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Cleveland Joseph Leger; her parents, Mr. and Mrs. David and Elizabeth LeJeune; four brothers, David, Wilson, Calise and Freddie LeJeune; five sisters, Julia Myers, Maggie LeJeune, Aggie Sonnier, Nelda Trahan and Willma Trahan.
