Col. George Carwin Duncan
PINEVILLE - Funeral services for Colonel George Carwin Duncan will be held at 3 p.m. on Wednesday, February 27, 2002 in the chapel of Hixson Brothers in Pineville with the Revs. George McVay and Ed Dilworth officiating. Burial will be held in Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Pineville.
Col. Duncan, 82, of Pineville, died Monday, February 25, 2002 at his residence. He was a native of Crowley.
Visitation will be observed today from 4 p.m. until 9 p.m. and on Wednesday from 8 a.m. until time of services.
Duncan was a former member of the Rapides Parish School Board and the Library Board.
He served eight years on the School Board and eight years on the Library Board. He served on building committees which worked with citizens to build two new elementary schools in Ward 10, renovate Tioga Junior High and build a new athletic complex and stadium for Tioga High.
Duncan was a charter member of Little League Baseball and Dixie Baseball. He was master Mason at Masonic Lodge 221, Pineville, a member of the VFW and of Ram Keystone Chapter No. 44 and Knights of Templa Trinity Commandery No. 8.
He was lay speaker at Palestine United Methodist Church for more than 40 years, holding most church officers over that time.
A veteran of World War II, Duncan served in a tank battalion in General George Patton’s Third Army. He received three battle campaign stars for action in the Battle of the Bulge.
In 1947, he enlisted as a private in the Louisiana National Guard, eventually rising to the rank of full bird colonel. Prior to his retirement, he was director of maintenance for the La. Army National Guard and served as post commander at Camp Beauregard for 12 years.
He was a recipient of the Louisiana Distinguished Service Medal, the Adjutant General and Minuteman Award, and was aid de camp on Governor Edwin Edwards’ staff, holding the designation of brigadier general.
Duncan was a graduate of the Army Armored School, Officer Candidate School, Ordnance School, Transportation School, Army Industrial College, and the Command and General Staff College.
Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Ineta Richey Duncan of Pineville; two sons, Rocky D. Duncan of Houston, Tx. and Jeffery C. Duncan of Ball; two daughters, Brenda Duncan Cockrell of Tioga and Sally Duncan Perkins of Houston, Tx.; two brothers, Robert C. Duncan of Houston, Tx. and Howard (Boochie) Duncan of Crowley; seven grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert C. Duncan and Mabel Rasberry Duncan of Crowley and a brother, Vernon (Tat) Duncan of Crowley.
Pallbearers will be Jimmy F. Cockrell, G. Shelton Perkins, Wesley C. Duncan, Christ Cockrell, Jerome Walker, Scott Cockrell and Maldolm Brazell.
Hixson Funeral Home of Pineville is in charge of all arrangements.

John L. Rohrbach
Funeral services were held Wednesday, Feb. 20, at 11 a.m. in Trinity Episcopal Church in Crowley for John Leonard Rohrbach, 53, who died at 1 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 16, 2002, at Our Lady of Lourdes Regional Medical Center in Lafayette.
Visitation was from 9 a.m. until the time of the services Wednesday in Geesey-Ferguson Funeral Home.
Survivors include his father, John Shivley Rohrbach of Philadelphia, Pa.; his wife, Brenda Trumps Rohrbach of Egan; two sons, Jonathan Lee Rohrbach of Perkiomenville, Pa., and Matthews Allen Rohrbach of Duson; one daughter, Seaman Blaine Marie Rohrbach of Great Lakes, Ill.; and one sister, Kathlene Ann Clark of Longhorn, Pa.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Emma Patton Rohrbach.
Mr. Rohrbach was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force and served as a lieutenant with the Philadelphia Police Department for 26 years.

GUEYDAN – Lena Duhon, 80, died Wednesday, Feb. 27, 2002 at Abrom Kaplan Memorial Hospital. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 28, at Matthews and Son Funeral Home of Gueydan. Burial will be in the Gueydan Cemetery under the direction of Matthews and Son Funeral Home of Gueydan.

Laura Elaine Perry Rowe
Funeral services will be held Thursday, Be. 28, 2002 at 2 p.m. in Geesey-Ferguson Funeral Home Chapel for Laura Elaine Perry Rowe, 54, who died Tuesday, Feb. 26, at 8:45 a.m. at her residence in Crowley.
Visitation will be observed Wednesday from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. and Thursday from 8 a.m. until the time of the funeral service. Burial will be in the Old Crowley Cemetery.
A rosary will be recited at the funeral home at 7 p.m. Wednesday evening.
Survivors include two daughters, Laurie Anne Rowe and her fiancé Troy Abshire of Lafayette and Donna Marie Arabie and her husband John of Crowley; four sisters, Rose P. Hoffpauir of Crowley, Sharon P. Martin of Lafayette, Faye P. Kibodeaux of Crowley and Ann P. Benenhaley of South Carolina; five brothers, Joe Perry, Donnie Perry, Wayne Perry, Ronnie Perry and Willie Perry II, all of Crowley; five grandchildren, Amber Nichole Trahan, Brittney Michele Arabie, Stephanie Ann Trahan, Jacob Brent Arabie and Nicholas John Arabie.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Willie and Laura Duhon Perry; one sister, Barbara Rowe; one brother, Jimmy Perry; paternal grandparents, Allen and Margaret Perry; and maternal grandparents, Joseph and Nolia Menard Duhon.
Pall bearers will be Radford Hoffpauir, Joey Perry, Lawrence Kibodeaux Jr., Ronnie Nero, Danny Hebert, Kurt Richey, Jason Perry and Sheila Mayberry.

James Robert “Jim Bob” LaPointe
Funeral services will be held today, Tuesday, Feb. 26, at 3:30 p.m. at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church for James Robert “Jim Bob” LaPointe, 52, who died at 7:13 a.m. Sunday, Feb. 24, 2002, at his residence.
Rev. Joseph Steffes, CSsR, will officiate for the services. The visitation began on Monday at 9 a.m. and continued until 10 p.m., and on Tuesday from 8 a.m. until time of services. A rosary, led by Deacon Rodless Leleux, was held on Monday evening at 6 p.m. at the funeral home.
Burial will be in the Woodlawn Cemetery.
Survivors include his wife, Peggy Lanclos LaPointe of Crowley; one son, John Robert LaPointe and his wife Tammy Mallet LaPointe of Crowley; one daughter, Michelle L. Maloz and her husband Joey Maloz of Crowley; two aunts, Margie Lamperez Breaux and Mellie Hollis, both of Crowley; one step-sister, Roxanne LaPointe of Crowley; and four grandchildren, John Robert LaPointe, II, Raven Paige LaPointe, Robyn Elizabeth LaPointe and Megan Claire Maloz.
Mr. LaPointe was preceded in death by his parents, Johnny Wallce and Rose Lamperez Lapointe.
Mr. LaPointe was a 25 year veteran of the Acadia Parish Sheriff’s Office, attaining the rank of Sergeant in the Patrol Division.
The family requests that donations be made to Hospice of Acadiana.
Pallbearers will be Lt. Walter Harrington, Sgt. Patrick Pousson, Sgt. Vince Conde, Deputy Bart Habetz, Deputy Michael Thibodeaux and Deputy Barton Kibodeaux, all deputies of the Acadia Parish Sheriff’s Office.

JENNINGS – Clarence Thibodeaux, 85, died Sunday, Feb. 24, 2002 at Bayou Village Nursing Home in Crowley. Funeral services will be held at Matthews and Son Funeral Home Chapel in Jennings. Burial will be in St. John the Baptist Cemetery in Lyons Point.

Jason Charles Holy
IOTA — Funeral services for Jason Charles Holy, 24, will be at 1 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 24, at St. Joseph Catholic Church here.
Burial will be in the Maxie Cemetery. The Rev. David Broussard will officiate. A rosary was prayed at 7 p.m. Saturday.
Visitation was from 4 until midnight Friday, from 7:30 a.m. until midnight Saturday and from 8 a.m. until the time of services Sunday.
Mr. Holy died at 10 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 21, 2002.
He is survived by his mother, Rita Dietz Conner of Iota; his father, Charles J. Holy Jr. of Iota; one brother, Dennis K. Holy of Iota; one sister, Dana Rose of Iota; one niece, Taylor Darbonne, and nephew, William Rose; and his paternal grandparents, Charles and Theresa Holy of West Texas.
He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, the Iota-Egan Lions Club and the Iota Volunteer Fire Department. He was a 1995 graduate of Iota High School.

CHURCH POINT — Louisiana Comeaux Olivier, 92, died Friday, Feb. 22, 2002, at Senior Village in Opelousas. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 24, at St. Bridget Catholic Church in Lawtell with burial in the church cemetery. Guidry Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Wallace Trahan
Funeral services will be held Friday, Feb. 22, 2002 at 3 p.m. at the Geesey-Ferguson Home Chapel for Wallace Trahan, 94, who died at 10:12 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 20, at American Legion Hospital in Crowley.
Deacon Rodless Leleux will officiate for the services. Burial will be in the Woodlawn Cemetery.
Visitation will be held Friday from 8:30 a.m. to the time of the services. A rosary will be recited Friday at 11 a.m. at the funeral home.
Survivors include his wife, Mable Faulk Trahan of Crowley; numerous nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Elodia Harrington Trahan.

Eunice Landry Stutes
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, Feb. 22, 2002 at the Geesey-Ferguson Funeral Home Chapel for Eunice Landry Stutes, 89, who died at 9:45 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 20, at Crowley American Legion Hospital.
Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery of Crowley with Fr. Louis Richard officiating. A rosary will be held at 9 a.m. Friday morning.
Visitation will begin at 7:30 a.m. Friday morning until the time of the services.
Survivors include one son, Paul Landry and his wife Charlotte of Toledo Bend; one daughter, Mrs. Angela (Joe) Oliver of Crowley; five grandchildren, Craig, Chet and Curt Oliver, Chris Stutes and Stephanie Stutes Weinmann; and three great grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Opta ad Angela Landry; her husband, O.J. Stutes; one brother, Emar Landry; and two sisters, Felicia Landry and Qzite “Bev” Dubus.

RAYNE – Rose Marie Price Dugas, 44, died Friday, Feb. 15, 2002 at the Medical Center of Southwest Louisiana in Lafayette. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 23, at Cunningham CME Church in Rayne. Burial will be in the St. Martin De Porres in Scott under the direction of Owens-Thomas Funeral Home of Crowley.

RAYNE – Mrs. Elia Menard Robert, 84, died Thursday, Feb. 21, 2002 at Our Lady of the Oaks Retirement Center in Lafayette. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 23, at St. Joseph Church in Rayne. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery #2 under the direction of Duhon Funeral Home of Rayne.

Joshua Harrington
CUT OFF - Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 21, 2002 at Sacred Heart Church for Joshua Harrington, 27, who died at 2:38 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 19, following an auto accident.
Burial will be in Cheramie Cemetery under the direction of Samart Funeral Home in Cut Off.
Visitation will be observed Wednesday from 5 to 10 p.m. and Thursday from 8 a.m. until the time of the services.
Survivors include his parents, Gerald Harrington and Nellie Hunter; his grandmother, Mary Gisclair Hunter; his Godchild, Hunter Harrington; one brother, Jonas Harrington; one sister, Nicole Harrington; and one sister-in-law, Tonia Sonnier Harrington.
He was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, Johness Joseph Hunter; paternal grandparents, Hilton and Zula Mires Harrington; one sister, Angela Harrington.
Pall bearers include Walter Harrington, Allen Paul Harrington, Glenn McCoulla, Terry Guidry, Rhett Pitre, Rowdy “Rawlo” Danos, Tran Griffin and Doug Daigle. Honorary pall bearers are Albert Harrington, Gerald Breaux and Jake Hunter.
Mr. Harrington enjoyed hunting and fishing and was employed by Edison Chouest Offshore.

Funeral services will be held , Thursday, February 21, 2002, at 10 a.m. at St. Michael Catholic Church for Andrew Cormier, 69, who died at 12:15 p.m. Monday, February 18, 2002 at the Crowley American Legion Hospital.
Rev. Louis Richard, pastor of St. Michael Church, will officiate for the services. The visitation will be observed on Wednesday from 8 a.m. - 10 p.m., and on Thursday from 8 a.m. until time of services.
Burial will be in the St. Joseph Cemetery #2 in Rayne.
Survivors include two daughters, Debbie Simar and her husband Hiliary, and Gwen Simon and her husband John, all of Crowley; two sons, Wayne Cormier and his wife Mona of Crowley, and Michael Cormier of Baytown, Tx.; two sisters, Rosa Belle Prejean and Mary Breaux, both of Crowely; his grandchildren, Amanda Guidry, Jenny Foreman, Lucas Cormier, Andrea Simon, and Cassie Cormier, all of Crowley; Jason, Joshua and Jeremy Myers of Morgan City; and, Marcus Cormier of Kilene, Texas; his step-grandchildren, Chris Myers and Trent Amie, both of Crowely; and, eight great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Emile and Nola Menard Cormier; one brother, Lawrence Cormier; a sister, Aniais Romero; a step-granddaughter, Nikki Guidry; four half brothers and three half sisters.
Pallbearers will be Lucas Cormier, Chris Myers, Trent Amie, Lawrence Cormier, Jr., Craig Breaux and Robert Marceaux. Honorary pallbearers will be Hubert Prejean and Patrick Prejean.

Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery with Rev. Loyd Singley.
Visitation will be held Wednesday from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. and Thursday from 8 a.m. until the time of the services.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, Feb. 20, at 11 a.m. in Trinity Episcopal Church in Crowley for John Leonard Rohrbach, 53, who died at 1 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 16, 2002, at Our Lady of Lourdes Regional Medical Center in Lafayette. CROWLEY – Mrs. Annie Lee Tucker, 81, died Wednesday, Feb. 13, 2002 at her residence in Crowley. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, Feb. 20, at 1 p.m. at Bethel CME Church in Crowley. Burial will be in the West Crowley Cemetery under the direction of Owens-Thomas Funeral Home in Crowley.

DUSON – Mary Doris Thibodeaux, 70, died Monday, Feb. 28, 2002 at her home in Duson. Funeral services will be held Thursday, Feb. 21, at 10 a.m. at Sts. Peter and Paul Church in Scott. Burial will be in the church cemetery under the direction of Duhon Funeral Home of Rayne.

ESTHERWOOD - Mable Fontenot Schexnider Trahan, 78, died at 1:48 a.m. Tuesday, February 18, 2002 at the Landmark Retirement Center. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. today, Tuesday, February 19, at St. Margaret Church. Geesey-Ferguson Funeral Home of Crowley is in charge of arrangements.

GUEYDAN – Winnie Eve Kibodeaux, 75, died at 1:35 a.m. Monday, February 18, 2002 at Lafayette General Hospital. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. today, Tuesday, February 19, at St. Peter Church. Matthews and Son Funeral Home of Gueydan is in charge of arrangements.

CHURCH POINT – Helen Guidry Istre, 78, died Sunday, February 17, 2002 at her residence in Church Point. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. today, Tuesday, February 19, 2002 at Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Church. Guidry Funeral Home of Church Point is in charge of arrangements.

CROWLEY – Harry Lee Trahan, 57, died Monday, February 18, 2002. Funeral services for Mr. Trahan are pending at Geesey-Ferguson Funeral Home Chapel.

CHURCH PT. -Isabella J. LeJeune, 88, of Church Point died Sunday, February 17, 2002 at 7:15 p.m. in Acadia-St. Landry Guest Home. Services will be Wednesday in Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church and burial in the church cemetery. Duhon Funeral Home of Church Point is in charge of arrangements.

RAYNE – Gelton Billiot, 65, died at 5:45 a.m. Sunday, February 17, 2002 at his residence in Rayne. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. today, Tuesday, February 19, at the Duhon Funeral Home Chapel in Rayne, who have been entrusted with the arrangements.

Olive Bourque Gauthier
A Memorial Service will be held Wednesday, February 20, 2002, at 10 a.m. at Notre Dame High School Chapel, 910 N. Eastern Ave in Crowley for Olive Bourque Gauthier, 98.
Rev. Louis Richard will officiate for the services.
Survivors include a daughter, Gertrude Holck and her hubsand Cecil “Bud” Holck and a grandson, John Lance Holk, all of Reno, Nv.
Mrs. Gauthier was a native of Louisiana, and had lived in Merced, California for 23 years. In Crowley, she worked as linotypist for the Crowley Daily Signal for 20 years. She was active in several associations in Crowley. In Merced, she was active in the Women’s Symphony League, AARP, Garden Club, Bridge Benefit Club and Our Lady of Mercy Altar Society. She loved bridge. She was a gourmet cook and loved to entertain.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Lance Irby Gauthier in 1969, and her mother, Olivia Pere’ Bourque.
Contributions in Mrs. Gauthier’s name may be made to the charity of your choice.

Anissa Brooke Leger
Funeral services will be held Sunday, February 17, 2002, at 2 p.m. in the Geesey Ferguson Funeral Home Chapel for Anissa Brooke Leger, 17, who died at 7:39 p.m. Thursday, February 14, 2002 at Our Lady of Lourdes Regional Medical Center in Lafayette as the result of injuries sustained in an auto accident.
Rev. Todd Menard will officiate for the services. The visitation began on Saturday, February 16, and will continue until time of services on Sunday.
Burial will be in the Sensat Cemetery in Egan.
Survivors include her mother and step-father, Laurie and Rex Thibodeaux of Scott, La.; her father, Charles Leger of Crowley; her fiance’ and his daughter, Dustin and Kimberly Aucoin of Duson; one brother, Cade Leger of Scott; her maternal grandparents, Larry and Loraine Regan of Egan; and, her paternal grandmother, Esther Simon of Crowley.
Miss Leger was a senior at Acadiana High School in Scott. She was fun-loving and enjoyed spending time with her family and friends.
Pallbearers will be Brad, Lonnie and Lyle Regan; Derek and Dustin Aucoin; and, Charlie Touchet.

Jennifer Richard Miller
Funeral services will be held Monday, February 18, 2002, at 1:30 p.m. at Abundant Life Fellowship in Rayne for Jennifer Richard Miller, 49, who died at 4:41 a.m. Saturday, February 16, 2002 at Lincoln General Hospital.
Rev. Melvin Finley will officiate for the services. The visitation will be observed on Sunday, February 17, 2002 from 1-9 p.m., and on Monday, February 18, from 8 a.m. until time of services.
Burial will be in the Woodlawn Cemetery.
Survivors include her mother, Pearl M. Richard of Crowley; her husband, John H. Miller, III, of Crowley; one son, Jonah Miller of Crowley; three daughters, Jessica, Veronica and Vanessa Miller, all of Crowley; one brother, Gerald Richard of Houston, Tx.; and, one sister, Janice Mathis of Lake Charles, La.
She was preceded in death by her father, Clovis Richard.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Monday, February 18, 2002, at a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Michael Church in Crowley for R. Harry Breaux, 90, who died at 3 a.m. Saturday, February 16, 2002 at his residence following a short illness.
Interment will be in the Woodlawn Mausoleum in crowley. The Rev. Louis Richard will officiate for the services. Music will be provided by the St. Michael Mixed Choir under the direction of L.J. Dailey. Organist will be Mrs. Alberta Lyons.

Born in Pillette, La., Mr. Breaux lived most of his life in Crowley, graduating from Crowley High School. He was bookkeeper for the Conoco Bulk Plant and the Ziegler-Trahan Dairy, until his retirement in 1974.
Mr. Breaux was an active member of St. Michael Catholic Church, a charter member of the Nocturnal Adoration Society, St. Anne Adoration Society, and St. Michael Money counter, a former member of the St. Michael Mixed choir, and a Fourth Degree Knight of Columbus.
An avid golfer, Mr. Breaux was a member of the Acadiana Golf Association.
Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Anna Lou Doucet Breaux; two daughters, Carmen B. Barnett and her husband, Nevin Eugene of Iowa, La., and Esther B. Trahan and her husband Larry, of Crowley; a sister, Yvonne B. Theobald of Evanston , Ill.; 11 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Dr. L.J. Breaux and Anna Carmen Labbe’ Breaux; a daughter, Carolynn Breaux Martin; and, three brothers, Louis Jerome Breaux, Lenox Breaux, and Earl Gray Breaux.
Visitation will be observed from 2-9 p.m. on Sunday, February 17, and on Monday, February 18, from 8 a.m. until time of services. A rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. on Sunday.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, February 18, 2002, at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church for Roy Larive, 95, of Sulphur, who died at 5:35 a.m. Saturday, February 16, 2002, at Holly Hills Nursing Home in Sulphur.
Father Joseph Greenwell will officiate for the services. Burial will be held in the Old Crowley Cemetery.
Visitation will be observed on Sunday, Feb. 17, from 3 p.m. until time of services on Monday.

Survivors include his wife, Bridget Larive of Sulphur; three sons and their spouses, Louis J. L. and his wife Carolyn of Tulsa, Ok., J. Roy and Carol and his wife Suzie, all of Sulphur; one daughter, Barbara Hanks and her husband Butch of Crowley; six grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Louis and Marie larive; two grandchildren, Francine Larive Cowls and Douglas Dronet; two brothers, George and Louis Larive; six sisters, Matilda Johnson, Emily Alleman, Plagie Wilks, Helena Forrestier, Ella Robin and Louise Roger.
He was a native of the Crowley area and a resident of Sulphur. He and his lovely wife celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary in November last year.
Mr. Larive was a retired farmer and janitor at Sulphur High School.

Chester D. Fruge
ESTHERWOOD - Funeral services will be held Saturday, Feb. 16, 2002 at 10 a.m. in St. Margaret Catholic Church for Chester D. Fruge, 91, who died at noon on Thursday, Feb. 14, at his residence in Estherwood.
Burial will be in Estherwood Cemetery with Fr. Russell Harrington. A rosary will be said Friday evening at 7 p.m.
Visitation will be held Friday from 9:30 a.m. to 10 p.m. and Saturday from 8 a.m. until the time of the funeral services at 10 a.m.
Survivors include one half-brother, Wilbur Verrett of Erath; one half-sister, Bernice McQuinn of Middleton, Ohio; and his primary caregiver and brother-in-law, Leroy Roy of Estherwood.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Amelia Roy Fruge; his parents, Dave and Helen Verrett Fruge; a sister, Verdie Tatum; and a half-brother, Melvin Verrett.
A native of Mermentau, he resided in Estherwood for over 60 years. He worked as a grocery clerk in Galveston, Texas, a tug boat captain on the Intracoastal Canal, and a meat market manager in Mermentau, before later retiring as a rice farmer.

Rebecca A. Smith Byers
Rebecca A. Smith Byers, 73, died at her home in Crowley on Tuesday, Feb. 12, 2002. She was a native of the state of Virginia and the daughter of the late Roosevelt and Sally Smith. She was the beloved wife of Robert L. Byers of Crowley.
She raised 10 children, Keith Smith, Barbara Smith, Rudolph Smith, Angie Smith, Joyce Smith, Roslyn Smith, Robert Smith, Denise Smith, Arthur Byers and Ronald Byers.
A faithful member of Bethel C.M.E. Church, she retired from the office of news reporter Dan Rathers as a janitor for over 25 years in Manhattan, New York.
She is preceded in death by her parents and her siblings, Buster Smith and Iola Smith, and one son, Rudolph Smith.

METAIRIE - Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, Feb. 15, 2002 at Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home (Metairie Cemetery) for Amos P. LeJeune, 78, who died Monday, Feb. 11, in the Veterans Affairs Hospital in Jackson, Miss. Burial will be in Lake Park Mausoleum.

A native of Iota and a resident of Ridgeland, Miss., he was a retired records manager with the U.S. Department of Agriculture and a professional handler/judge with the American Kennel Club for many years. A veteran of the United States Marine Corps during World War II ad a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean Conflict, he was a life-time member of the DAV and the American Legion. A Third Degree Knight with the Knights of Columbus, he was a former member of the Moose Heart Lodge in Batavia, Ill.
LeJeune was a beloved husband of Evelyn C. LeJeune and father to Cheryl L. Matczak, Ronald C. LeJeune, Dennis M. LeJeune and Glenn P. LeJeune. He was also the grandfather to 10 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.

Dave Simon, 77, of Texas City, Texas, passed away Sunday, Feb. 10, 2002, at Mainland Center Hospital in Texas City.
A funeral mass will be held 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 13, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church with Father Tom Cullen officiating.
Entombment will follow at Mt. Olivet Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 Tuesday, Feb. 12, with a rosary at 6:30 p.m. at Emken-Linton Funeral Home.
Mr. Simon was born March 13, 1924, in New Orleans. He was retired from Marathon Oil Company after 35 years of service.
He was a 55-year member of the Knights of Columbus in La Marque and a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church. He also served in U. S. Navy during WWII and the Korean Conflict.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ulice “Black” and Neomi Simon.
Survivors include wife of 55 years, Mary Grace Simon; sons Glenn Simon and wife Sherry of Moorpark, Calif.; and Rocky Simon and wife Pat of Missouri City, Texas; daughter Jackie Sizemore of Bayou Vista, Texas; special devoted friends Lynn and Doloris Langlinais of La Marque, Texas.
He is also survived by his grandchildren: Laura and Michael Simon, Dennis Sizemore Jr. and wife Vera, and Matthew and Cicely Simon; and great-grandson Mason Sizemore.

She is survived by her husband, Johnny Stafford of Crowley; one daughter, Nancy K. Stafford of Crowley; one son, Johnathan M. Stafford of Crowley; one brother, Michael Daigle of Chaulment; and her mother, Aline Sarver of Crowley.
She was preceded in death by her father, Wallace Daigle.

Marjory Reed Corcoran
Services for Marjory Reed Corcoran, 77, will be held on Thursday, Feb. 14, at 10:00 a.m. at Gossen Funeral Home in Rayne.
Visitation will be Ash Wednesday, Feb. 13, from 4 until 8:30 p.m and Thursday morning until the time of services. Interment will be immediately following at Woodlawn Cemetery in Crowley.
Mrs. Corcoran died in her sleep Friday, Feb. 8, at Ascension Hospital in Gonzales.
Marjory was born on April 7, 1924, in New Orleans, but moved to Crowley when she was 6 years old. She finished her elementary and high school education in Crowley, then attended LSU for one year before moving to New Jersey.
She married Jerome Corcoran in 1943 and while he served his country during the war, she used her talents as a vocalist and pianist for the USO. Having made a life decision to be in organizations serving church and country, Marge was involved in Ladies Altar Societies in Perth Amboy, New Jersey, and Rayne, where she served as president, and religious education for the St Joseph Catholic Church CCD program, and many years of musical service as church organist and vocalist.
Mrs. Corcoran and her husband Jerome were members of the Knights of Columbus and American Legion. She received special recognition as composer of “The American Legion And Its Auxiliary,” which was adopted in 1976 as the state song of the Louisiana American Legion.
She also composed the St. Joseph Centennial Hymn for its celebration in 1974. When she lived in New Jersey, she made numerous recordings and co-composed “Be Mine, My Darling,” which was copyrighted in 1949. Marge also received special recognition for her many years of service to the Rayne Public Library.
She is survived by her sister Elaine Reed Bourg of Baton Rouge; niece Lorna Bourg of New Iberia; nephew James Bourg of Baton Rouge; niece Jeannie Bourg Williams of Spring, Texas; nephew Charles Reed of Lafayette; and close family friend Peaches Touchberry of Baton Rouge.
She has 8 great nieces and nephews: Shannon Reed Temple of Fort Collins, Col., Mitch Bourg of Venice, Calif., Viki Bourg Touchberry of New York City, Jaim, Senate, and Michael Ann Bourg of Baton Rouge, and Daniel and Timothy Williams of Spring, Texas. She is also survived by 2 great-great nieces.

CROWLEY - Funeral services will be held at St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church at 3 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 8, 2002 for Joseph Kenneth Ray Monceaux, 50, of Houston, who died at 8:30 a.m. Monday, Feb. 4, at Houston Northwest Medical Center.
Monceaux was formerly of Oberlin and a graduate of Oberlin High School and Baptist Christian College of Shreveport.

He is preceded in death by his father, Percy Lee Monceaux and brother, Steve Anthony Monceaux.

Celine Fremaux McGinn Geary
BATON ROUGE - Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 9, 2002, at Sacred Heart Church of Baton Rouge for Celine Fremaux McGinn Geary, 89, who died Monday, Feb. 4, at the home of her son, Dr. Walter Thomas Geary Jr. of Montgomery, Ala.
Mrs. Geary was born on Feb. 15, 1912 to Thomas Wallace McGinn and Marie Fremaux McGinn in Crowley. She attended Louisiana State University an graduated in 1933 with a BA in journalism. She worked briefly for the Crowley Dailey Signal and taught school at St. Michaels High School in Crowley before accepting a position with the Louisiana Department of Public Health. In this capacity, she traveled extensively throughout the state organizing the Bureau of Vital statistics in every parish in Louisiana.
In 1940-41, she attended Case-Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio where she obtained the first masters degree in public health statistics in the United States. Shortly after her return to Louisiana, she was sent on temporary assignment to the state of Mississippi to assist in the creation of that state’s Bureau of Vital Statistics.
She married Walter T. Geary of New Orleans in December of 1945. She left the Public Health Service after the birth of her first son, Walter Thomas Jr. Shortly after the birth of her second son, Patrick Joseph, she and her family returned to Baton Rouge when her husband was transferred by Southern Bell Telephone Company.
In 1956 she began working at Sacred Heart Catholic School, first as a substitute teacher and then as secretary to the principals and school librarian. She continued in this capacity until her retirement in 1978.
Following her retirement, she was active in the Sacred Heart Church parish, was on the board of St. Joseph Academy Children’s Home, the Baton Rouge Women’s Club and as a docent in the Pentagon Building on the Louisiana State Capitol grounds where she had lived as an undergraduate during her college years.
Failing eyesight required her to give up her activities and in 2001 she moved to Montgomery, Ala. to live with her son and his family.
She is survived by her two sons and five grandchildren, Brian Thomas of Birmingham, Ala., Catherine Celine of Philadelphia, John Michael of Tuscaloosa, Ala., Anne Irene of Notre Dame, Ind and Colleen Louise of Tuscaloosa, Ala.

GUEYDAN - Funeral services have been scheduled for Lorraine Boudreaux Campbell, 75, of Gueydan.
Mrs. Campbell died at 7 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 3, 2002, at the Medical Center of Southwest Louisiana in Lafayette following a lengthy illness.

Mrs. Campbell was the beloved wife of the late Huey P. (Tucker) Campbell Sr. and loving mother of Larry J. Cheramie of Fort Collins, Colo., Vicky Campbell Istre of Morse, Cheryl Campbell of Gueydan, Huey P. Campbell Jr. of New Orleans and Krisy Campbell LeBlanc of Midland.
She was the mother-in-law of Gloria Nowlin Cheramie, Kerney Istre Jr., Agnes Lavergne Campbell and Leo J. Leo Jr.
She was the daughter of the late Jefferson Boudreaux and Mathilda Naquin Boudreaux, sister of Mildred B. Plaisance, Rogers Boudreaux Sr. and Jeffery Boudreaux, all of Houma, and the late Isabelle (Bell) B. Picou and Eula B. Bergeron.
She was a devoted grandmother of Nicole C. Lobello, Kandee L. McDaniels, Huey P. (Lil' Tucker) Campbell III and Alyssa Lorraine Richard, and great grandmother of Julia Margaret Lobello.
Mrs. Campbell was the proprietor of Big Al’s Snow Come Stand from 1978-1985 and The Krauin Kajun Restaurant from 1985-1989.

JENNINGS – Charles Lee Broussard, 60, of Rayne, died Monday, Feb. 4, 2002 at Lake Charles Memorial Hospital. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 7, at Matthews and Son Funeral Home Chapel in Jennings. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery with full military rites.

Theresa B. Thibodeaux
LAFAYETTE - Funeral services will be held Tuesday, Feb. 5, 2002 at a 10:30 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial in the St. Jules Catholic Church for Theresa B. Thibodeaux, 78, the former Theresa Broussard, who died Saturday, Feb. 2, at 7:10 p.m. at Our Lady of Lourdes Regional Medical Center in Lafayette.
Entombment will be in the Calvary Cemetery Mausoleum.
The Very Rev. Msgr. J. Douglas Courville, JCL, pastor, will officiate the funeral mass and conduct the services.
Survivors include her husband, Joseph W. Thibodeaux of Lafayette; two daughters, Brenda Hebert and her husband Gabby of St. Cloud, Fla. and Mollie Vincent and her husband Lynn of Abbeville; one son, Wayne Thibodeaux and his wife Bettie of Scott; seven grandchildren, Duane Hebert, Wendy Cole, Nina and Cy Vincent, Ricky and Sean Thibodeaux and Cherie Thibodeaux Ellyson; one sister, Helen Dartez of Crowley and 11 great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, Rufus and Riley Broussard; and four sisters, Nina Istre, Fannie Tullos, Hilda LeBlanc and Ruby Foreman.
A native of Lyons Points and a resident of Lafayette for 51 years, Mrs. Thibodeaux was the daughter of the late Felix Broussard and the former Ellen Broussard, both natives of Acadia Parish.
She was a member of the St. Jules Catholic community.
A rosary was said Monday evening at 7 p.m. in the Martin and Castille Funeral Home in Scott.
The family requests that visiting hours be observed from 9:30 a.m. to 10 p.m. Monday and from 8 a.m. until the time of services on Tuesday.
Memorial contributions in Mrs. Thibodeaux’s name may be made to Hospice of Acadiana, 2600 Johnston St., Suite 200, Lafayette, LA, 70503.
Pallbearers are Duane Hebert, Cy and Lynn Vincent, Ricky, Sean and Wayne Thibodeaux and Gabby Hebert.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Martin and Castille Funeral Home of Scott, 234-2320.

CHURCH POINT – Reggie James Daigle, 39, died Saturday, February 2, 2002 in Rosenburg, Texas. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. today, Tuesday, February 5, at Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Church. Guidry Funeral Home of Church Point is in charge of arrangements.

RAYNE – Leroy Gibson, 66, died Wednesday, Jan. 30, 2002, at American Legion Hospital in Crowley. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, Feb. 5, at Starlight Baptist Church. Burial will be in the Protestant Cemetery in Rayne under the direction of Owens-Thomas Funeral Home of Crowley.

Tyler Jamal Wilson
Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. today, Tuesday, February 5, 2002, at Woodlawn Cemetery for Tyler Jamal Wilson, infant, who died on Sunday, February 3, 2002, at American Legion Hospital.
Father Richard Sadlier will officiate for the services.
Survivors include his parents, Lydia Robinson and Mervin Wilson, Jr., both of Crowley; his maternal grandparents, Joseph and Cecilia Robinson, and his paternal grandmother, Mary Wilson, all of Crowley.
He was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, Mervin Wilson, Sr.

Glenn Allen Valdetero
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, February 6, 2002, at St. Michael Catholic Church for Glenn Allen Valdetero, 57, who died at 6:30 a.m. Monday, February 4, 2002, at Acadia-St. Landry Hospital in Church Point.
Father George Heffner will officiate for the services. Burial will be held in St. Lawrence Cemetery in Mowata.
Visitation will be observed on Tuesday from 2 p.m. until 10 p.m. and on Wednesday from 8 a.m. until the time of services.
A rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. on Tuesday.
Survivors include his wife, Charlotte Hensgens Valdetero of Crowley; two sons, Shane and Craig Valdetero, both of Crowley; two daughters, Erika and Amanda Valdetero, both of Crowley; his father and step-mother, Stan and Jane Valdetero of Kinder; and, one sister, Debbie Dore’ of Crowley.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Elaine Hoffpauir Valdetero; and, one brother, Michael Valdetero.
Mr. Valdetero was a veteran of the Vietnam war, having served with the United States Air Force.
Pallbearers will be Jake Dore’, Karl Hensgens, Jacob Dorr, Ryan Vidrine, William Hensgens and Matt Lambousy. Honorary pallbearers will be Darrel Simon, Robert Hoffpauir, Bill Moore, John Heath, Randall McElwee, Scott Sinitiere and Donald Martel.

RAYNE – Leontine Doucet “Lottie” Cobena, 90, died Saturday, Feb. 2, 2002 at Bethany Health Care Center in Lafayette where she lived for the past five years. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, Feb. 5, in Gossen Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be in the St. Joseph Mausoleum under the direction of Gossen Funeral Home in Rayne.

Mabel David Martin
JENNINGS - Funeral services for Mabel David Martin, 95, of Jennings are scheduled for Monday, Feb. 4, 2002, at 11 a.m. at Our Lady Help of Christians Catholic Church with Msgr. James Gaddy officiating.
A rosary will be said Sunday at 4 p.m. by the Ladies Altar Society and Catholic Daughters of the Americas. A vigil services will be held Sunday at 7 p.m.
Mrs. Martin died at 12:20 p.m. Feb. 1, at Jennings American Legion Hospital.
Visitation will be Sunday from 2:30 to 9 p.m. and Monday from 9 a.m. until the time of the funeral service.
She was a native of Church Point and a resident of Jennings. A 1925 graduate of S.L.I. of Lafayette, she was an elementary teacher in Acadia Parish for many years. She was a member of the Catholic Daughters of the Americas for over 50 years and served as recording secretary for the following organizations: Ladies Altar Society at Our Lady Help of Christians Catholic Church, Catholic Daughters of the Americas and the Jennings Hoe and Hope Garden Club.
Survivors include four daughters, Mrs. Yvonne Menard of Crowley, Mrs. Lloyd (Carita) McClatchey Jr. of Marshall, Texas, Sr. Gilbert Martin, Daughter of Charity of New Orleans, and Mrs. Heloise Cassidy of Jennings; 21 grandchildren, 42 great grandchildren and three great great grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Arthur and Philomene David; her husband, Gilbert Bertrand Martin; and three brothers, Allen, Harold and Lawrence David.
Pallbearers are Ward Menard, Gerald Menard, Lloyd McClatchey III, Charles Martin Cassidy, Carl Cassidy and Dr. James Perry.
The family has requested memorial donations be made to Eternal Word Television Network.

Margery Stewart Walsh
Funeral services will be held Monday, Feb. 4, 2002, at 2:30 p.m. at Parkerson Avenue Baptist Church in Crowley for Margery Stewart Walsh, 69, who died at 2 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 2, at her residence in Crowley
Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery with Rev. L.C. Lord, pastor, officiating.
Visitation will be Sunday from 2:30 to 10 p.m. and Monday from 8 a.m. until the time of the funeral service.
Survivors include her husband, Donald Blaine Walsh Sr. of Crowley; one son, Donald Blaine Walsh Jr. of Crowley; two daughters, Donna W. Heyduck of Bridge City, Texas and Joan W. Kidder of Higginbotham; one brother, Ray Stewart of Houston; two sisters, Flora Mae Broussard of DeRidder and Florence S. Earles of Crowley; five grandchildren and one great grandchild.
She is preceded in death by parents, Offard Stewart and Alice Winn Stewart, and one brother, Henry Lawrence Stewart.
Mrs. Walsh was a long-time member of Parkerson Avenue Baptist Church in Crowley and worked as a nurse’s aide at Crowley American Legion Hospital for a number of years.
Pallbearers include Brent Ledoux, David Heyduck, Ricky, Brad and Terrell Stewart and Robert Cormier.

Sadie Helen Dawson Cowen
Funeral services will be held Monday, Feb. 4, 2002 at 1 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church in Crowley for Sadie Helen Dawson Cowen, 87, who died Thursday, Jan. 31, at 9:54 a.m. at Our Lady of Lourdes Regional Medical Center in Lafayette.
Reverend Bob Hollis will officiate for the services. Burial will be in the Woodlawn Mausoleum.
Visitation will be held Sunday from 4 to 7 p.m. and Monday from 8 to 11 a.m. at the funeral home and noon until service time at First United Methodist Church.
Survivors include one daughter, Margaret Anne C. Boone and her husband Charles of Bossier city; two sons, Henry Cowen Jr. and his wife Terry of Lafayette and John Richard Cowen and his wife Marty of Naples, Fla.; eight grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.
Mrs. Cowen was a native of Shreveport and attended Centenary College. She was a 65-year member of Zeta Tau Alpha Sorority, an active member of the First United Methodist Church, Daughters of the American Revolution and the Three-Ten Club.
Mrs. Cowen was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Henry Cowen Sr., and a great granddaughter, Sadie Hannah Caillouet.
Pallbearers will be Hank Cowen, Todd Cowen, Andy Cowen, Bill Cowen, Stuart Boone, Helmut Portmann, Nick Caillouet and Matt Halbrook.
The family has requested that memorials be made to the Charles Henry Cowen Sr. Endowment Fund at First United Methodist Church in Crowley or a charity of the donor’s choice.

Jake Fruge
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 3, 2002, at Parkerson Avenue Baptist Church in Crowley for Jake Fruge, 83, who died at 8:48 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 31, at the Rehabilitation Hospital of Acadiana in Lafayette.
Burial will be in the North Hanks Cemetery of Crowley with Rev. L.C. Lord officiating.
Visitation was held Saturday from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. and again on Sunday from 8 a.m. until the time of the funeral services.
He is survived by one son, Noah Fruge and his wife Audrey of Crowley; three daughters, Dorothy Thibodeaux and her husband Aunteal of Youngsville, Margie Harmon and her husband Floyd of Roberts Cove and Jeannie Dailey and her husband John E. of Crowley; one sister, Edith Crenshaw of Sour Lake, Texas; 13 grandchildren and 23 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Olivia Guillot Fruge; his parents, Gus and Louisa Fruge; two brothers, Rufus and Curley Fruge; and two sisters, Alice Kadner and Lizzie Kilmer.
Fruge was a long-time employee of International Harvestor of Crowley. He was a member of Parkerson Baptist Church of Crowley and the Woodmen of the World.
Duhon Funeral Home of Crowley has been entrusted with the arrangements.

Estelle Pastorchik
CHURCH POINT - Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 3, 2002 at Guidry Funeral Home Chapel for Estelle Blanchard Pastorchik, 83, who died at 11:45 a.m. Friday, Feb. 1, at Acadia-St. Landry Hospital in Church Point.
Fr. Nicholas Trahan will officiate the services. Burial will be in St. Edward Catholic Church Cemetery in Richard.
Visitation began Saturday at 8 a.m. until 10 p.m., and again at 8 a.m. with viewing until time of the service on Sunday. A rosary was said at 7 p.m. Saturday evening by Deacon Jim Cormier.
Survivors include two sons, John Pastorchik and his wife Judy and Paul Pastorchik and his wife Charlene, all of Church Point.
Guidry Funeral Home of Church Point is in charge of arrangements.

Curtis Lee Reinhardt
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Sunday, Feb. 3, 2002 at Duhon Funeral Home Chapel of Crowley for Curtis Lee Reinhardt, 71, who died at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 1, at Our Lady of Lourdes Medical Center in Lafayette.
Reverend Wilson Saltzman will officiate the services. Burial will be in Acadia Resthaven Cemetery in Crowley.
Visitation began Saturday at 3 p.m. until 10 p.m., and again at 8 a.m. with viewing until time of the service on Sunday.
Survivors include his wife, Phyllis Reinhardt of Crowley; three daughters, Mary Duhon of Crowley, Kate Hebert of Richard and Bertha Perry of Rowlett, Texas; two sons, Edgar Earl Powell of Conroe, Texas and Fred Gordon of Crowley; one brother, George M. Reinhardt of Grand Prairie, Texas; 12 grandchildren and 25 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one grandchild, Mary Ann Duhon; one great grandchild, Aaron Joseph Savoy; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Pete Reinhardt; one brother, Henry Reinhardt and one sister, Betty Hudson.
He is retired from Crowley Manufacturing after working there for 27 years.

Olivia Ledet
Funeral services will be held Saturday, February 2, 2002, at St. Theresa Catholic Church, with visitation from 7-10 a.m. and funeral services immediately following, for Olivia Ledet, 82.
On Tuesday, January 29, 2002, the Angel of Death called Olivia Ledet home. Olivia was born November 26, 1919, to Mary Senegal and Robert Victoria of Carencro, La.
She was married to John Ledet for 51 years, and was a faithful member of St. Theresa’s Catholic Church.
She leaves to mourn, her husband, John Ledet of Crowley; two sons, Wilfred Delco and his wife Rena, and Belton Narcisse and his wife Lois, all of Houston, Tx.
Her memory will also be cherished by her niece, Ferrie Mae Harmon of Crowley; five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and, a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.
Olivia was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Lucius Victoria; and, two sisters, Viola London and Mary Bell Wilkins.
Olivia will be missed by her family, friends and all those whom she visited.

Burial will be in the church cemetery under the direction of Guidry Funeral Home of Church Point.

RAYNE – Rodney Joseph Guidry, 64, of Broussard died Wednesday, Jan. 20, 2002 at Lafayette General Medical Center. A memorial mass is scheduled at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Rayne on Saturday, Feb. 2, at 11 a.m. Burial will be in the church cemetery under the direction of Duhon Funeral Home of Rayne.

LYONS POINT – Dalton H. Meaux, 80, died at 11:30 a.m. on Sunday, Jan. 27, 2002 at Lafayette General Medical Center. Burial will be in St. John the Baptist Cemetery in Lyons Point under the direction of Geesey-Ferguson Funeral Home.

IOTA – Clara Dietz Pousson, 87, died at 3:30 a.m. on Thursday, Jan. 31, 2002 at Crowley American Legion Hospital. Funeral services will be held Friday, Feb. 1, under the direction of Geesey-Ferguson Funeral Home of Crowley.
