Donie Sample
Donie Sample, age 79, of Fort Walton Beach, Fla., died Thursday, Oct. 7, 1999, in a local hospital.
She was born on Sept. 4, 1920, in Houston County, Ala., to Estelle and J.C. Tindell. Donie had lived in the Fort Walton Beach area since 1943 and worshiped at the Fort Walton Beach Church of Christ, where she had been an active member since 1970.
Donie was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother and will be greatly missed by her family and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, her first husband, L.C. Hart, and her second husband, Mortimer Sample. She is survived by her only daughter, Linda Hart Haraway and her husband Reed of Fort Walton Beach; granddaughters, Shelly Scannell and husband Barry of Baton Rouge, La., and Kelly Strickland and husband Joel of Tuscaloosa, Ala.; great-grandsons, Matthew and Morgan-Taylor Rushing of Baton Rouge; sister, Bessie Tindell of Dothan, Ala.; brother, Nathan Tindell of Ashford; several nieces and nephews; special friends, Edna Pittman, Janet Donovan, Dot Atkins and Jimie Savage; plus many other close friends.
Funeral services for Donie will be conducted at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 10, at Emerald Coast Funeral Home Chapel with Minister Ross Mitchell officiating. Interment will follow in Beal Memorial Cemetery.
Friends may visit between 5 and 7 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
Flowers will be accepted.
Emerald Coast Funeral Home, 113 Racetrack Road N.E., Fort Walton Beach, is in charge of arrangements.

Norman A. Borton
Norman A. Borton, age 88, passed away Saturday, Sept. 25, 1999, at Fort Walton Beach Medical Center.
He was born on Oct. 28, 1910.
"He left behind an outstanding and distinguished athletic career to join the ultimate team."
The family recognizes two very special friends, Bonnie and Don Fieskes, who became the support staff for Norm.
He is survived by his daughter, Barbara Norris; grandson, Scott Norris; stepchildren, Drs. Howard (Debby) and John Flynn, and Kathleen (Les) Viehmann; four stepgrandchildren; nephew, Donald (Belva) Knapp; nieces, nephews; and a life filled with many special friends.
Memorial services for Mr. Borton will be held at Stebbins-McCullough Funeral Chapel in Edmore, Mich., on Oct. 17, at 2 p.m.
Memorials may be made to Alma College Athletic Department in Mr. Borton's memory.

James Richard Gavett
James Richard "Pops" Gavett, age 80, of Fort Walton Beach, Fla., died Sunday, Oct. 3, 1999, in a local hospital.
He was born in South Portland, Maine, on Feb. 28, 1919, and was a retired truck driver. He was a member of the VFW, Moose Lodge, American Legion, and Fraternal Order of Eagles in Fort Walton Beach.
Survivors include his sons, James Gavett of Readfield, Maine, Richard J. Pinkham of Niceville, Fla., and George Pinkham of Fort Walton Beach; daughters, Nancy Bunker of Readfield, Tina Pinkham of Crystal River, Fla., Lisa Blakely of Augusta, Maine, and Catherine Pinkham of Belgrade, Maine; sisters, Dottie Getchell and Ruth McCloud, both of Maine; 10 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
At Mr. Gavett's request, his remains will be cremated and a memorial service will be held at a later date.

Dr. Chester E. Jarvis
Dr. Chester E. Jarvis, age 89, died Oct. 3, 1999, at the Manor at Bluewater Bay in Niceville, Fla.
Dr. Jarvis was born on May 17, 1910, in Stockton, Calif., the son of the late Edward and Catherine Campbell Jarvis. He graduated with a bachelor of arts and master of arts in history from the University of California, Berkley. He received his doctor of philosophy degree in political science from the University of Pennsylvania.
Dr. Jarvis served during the second World War in the U.S. Army and later in the Army Reserves, retiring with the rank of captain.
His college teaching career began at Dickinson College in Carlisle, Pa., and continued at Gettysburg College in Gettysburg, Pa. He retired in 1980 and was named Professor Emeritus.
In 1984, he and his wife moved to Destin, Fla.
Predeceasing him is a sister, Edre Hull; and a son, William Fraser Jarvis. He is survived by his wife, Pauline "Peg" Fraser Jarvis; sister, Wilma Jacobsen; grandsons and their wives, Ian Fraser Jarvis and Sandra, and Peter Fraser Jarvis and Tina; great-grandson, William Fraser Jarvis; great-granddaughter, Jenna Diane Jarvis; a number of nieces; a nephew; brother-in-law, George W.B. Fraser; sister-in-law, Donna Reid Fraser of Enfield, Nova Scotia; and daughter-in-law, Jean Rachilla Naples.
Complying with Chester's wishes, he will be cremated and his ashes scattered in the Gulf of Mexico.

Linda L. Ehrhart
Mrs. Linda L. Ehrhart, age 47, of Lake City, Fla., passed away Wednesday, Oct. 6, 1999, in a Gainesville hospital. Mrs. Ehrhart was born Feb. 28, 1952, in Marion, Ohio, to Anna Grace and the late Otto Grace. She moved to Fort Walton Beach nine years ago from Chigopee, Mass., before she moved to Lake City. She was in charge of various district activities dealing with the Boy Scouts of America.
Mrs. Ehrhart is survived by her husband, Clarence W. Ehrhart of Lake City; son, Clarence W. Ehrhart Jr. of Fort Walton Beach; son, James E. Ehrhart of Largo, Fla.; son, Michael L. Ehrhart of Groton, Conn.; mother, Anna Mae Grace of Delaware, Ohio; brother, Larry Grace of Puyallup, Wash.; sister, Karen Lobdell of Delaware, Ohio; brother, Joseph Grace of Osgood, Ind.; and brother, David Grace of Plymouth, Ind.
Funeral services for Mrs. Ehrhart will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 12, 1999, in the Emerald Coast Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow in Beal Memorial Cemetery. The family will greet friends at the funeral home Monday, Oct. 11, 1999, from 5 to 7 p.m.

Alma Hardee Waller
Mrs. Alma Waller, age 74, of Destin, Fla., went to her reward Friday, Oct. 8, 1999, in a local hospital. Mrs. Waller was born Jan. 13, 1925, in Vienna, Ga., to the late Wendall and Eva Gilbert. She has been a resident of Destin since 1982, moving from Birmingham, Ala. She was a member of the Village Baptist Church in Destin.
Mrs. Waller is survived by her husband and three children.
In lieu of flowers please make donations in her memory to the Village Baptist Church in Destin.

Ganelle McKinney
Ganelle (Washburn) McKinney, 62, of Fort Worth, Texas, died Thursday, Oct. 7, at the home of her daughter.
Memorial service is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. Monday, Oct. 11, at Biggers Funeral Home, 7139 Jacksboro Highway, Fort Worth, Texas, 76135.
She was born Feb. 24, 1937, to J.D. and Pearl E. (McGlothin) Washburn of Bells, Texas. In 1957, she married Bill McKinney of Denton, Texas. She attended public schools in Bells, Texas, and the University of North Texas.
Before her medical retirement she was a counselor in family services for the State of Florida. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Fort Walton Beach, Fla.
Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Sandra and John Sutton of Fort Worth; sons, Gary McKinney of Destin and Greg McKinney of Fort Walton Beach; sisters and brothers-in-law, Jean and Don W. Ross of Denton, Texas and Elizabeth and William W. Storey of Dallas, Texas; grandchildren, Brooke Martin, Mitch Martin and Sam McKinney; three nephews; one niece; and one great-nephew.

Franklin "Frank" D. Maxey
Franklin "Frank" D. Maxey, 65, of Fort Walton Beach, Fla. died Thursday, Oct. 7.
He was born Feb. 12, 1934 in Montgomery, Ala. He left home at 16 and began a life of savoring the experience of living. Frank was a poet, novelist, chef and composer. His songs led him to Nashville and, in turn, every state in the continental United States. It was in May 1975 that he married his bride of 24 years, Tricia. Together they settled down and raised a family in Fort Walton Beach.
Frank battled cancer for more than a year before it called him to his eternal home. He drew his last breath cradled in the warmth and love of Tricia and his dear mother-in-law, Carrie. Carrie's presence gave Frank the peace he needed. Knowing that the love of his life would be taken care of, he was finally able to rest.
Frank was preceded in death by his parents, Bertie Houston Maxey and Ethel Summers-Maxey of Montgomery, Ala. He is survived by his loving wife, Lutricia Maxey of Fort Walton Beach; his son, William Maxey and wife Jessie of Allentown, Penn.; daughter, Angela Ferrell and husband James of Fayetteville, N.C.; stepdaughter Tombee Radecker of Fort Walton Beach; grandchildren, Kelly and Joseph, an unborn great-grandson due in six weeks; his mother-in-law and good friend, Carrie Mae Munn of Effingham, S.C.; his brothers, Jim Maxey, Tommy Maxey and John Maxey, all of Montgomery, Ala., his sisters, Edna Bone, Jo Ann Benefield, Nadine Walker and Pat Austin, all of Montgomery, Ala., Ruth Horton of California, and Betty Benthall of Fort Walton Beach; and a large extended family and many close friends.
A memorial service will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 11, 1999, at Cinco Baptist Church, 26 N.E. Yacht Club Drive, Fort Walton Beach, Fla. Hospice Chaplain Frank Dole will officiate.
In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations made in Frank's name to Hospice of Northwest Florida's Okaloosa-Walton Branch, 101 Hart Street, Niceville, FL 32578.
It was Frank's wish to never leave Florida. To honor his request, Frank's ashes will be scattered in the gulf during a private family ceremony.
"As the eternal tide caresses the shore, there too will I be."

Betty Ann Ward
Betty Ann Ward, age 59, of Niceville, Fla., passed away at her residence after a lengthy illness on Saturday, Oct. 9, 1999.
She was born on Nov. 9, 1939, in Crestview, Fla. She has been a resident of the local area her entire life. She was baptist by faith and a faithful member of the Rosemont Baptist Church of Niceville, Fla. She was a member of the Order of Eastern Star Chapter 254 in Niceville. She had a great capacity to love a lot of people and was loved by a lot of people. She was a devoted wife, mother, daughter and sister and will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
She was preceded in death by her father, Harold McCullough and two sons, Harold Grant (Hal) Ward and John Dewain Ward.
Survivors include her loving husband, Gary Ward, mother, Nellie Davis McCullough of Valparaiso, son, Jeff and daughter-in-law Sandra Ward of Marianna, Fla; daughter, April Ward of Niceville; sisters, Barbara and husband Tom English of Pensacola, Lucy Freytag of Wartburg, Tenn., Jackie and husband Doug Edge of Niceville; two aunts raised as sisters, Susie (Toobie) and husband Billy Ward of Niceville and Mary Lee Peters of Odesa, Fla.; three grandchildren, Jessica Ward, Kimberly Ward and Lindsay Ward; and three special girls, Meredith Simons, Bethany Simons and Nichole Morgan; and a host of nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends at a visitation on Monday, Oct. 11, 1999, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the McLaughlin Twin Cities Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, Oct. 12, 1999, at 10:30 a.m. at the Rosemont Baptist Church in Niceville with her son and pastor Jeff Ward from New Life Family Church of Marianna officiating. Betty will be placed in the church one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow the services in Sunset Cemetery in Valparaiso.
McLaughlin Twin Cities Funeral Home, 1405 John Sims Parkway, Niceville, is entrusted with the arrangements.
