Joseph Harlie Dugger Jr.
Joseph Harlie Dugger Jr., age 54, died Oct. 25, 2000, in Fort Walton Beach, Fla.
Mr. Dugger was born on Feb. 8, 1946, in Alton, Ill. He was the son of Joseph H. Sr. and Mildred Johnson Dugger. He was a veteran of the Vietnam era, serving his country in the U.S. Navy on the USS Alludra. He worked as a superintendent on a lay barge in the oil industry based out of Singapore, which was his second home. He was a 35-year resident of Freeport, Fla. He was an avid fisherman and really enjoyed nature. He was known for having a very big heart, always showing love to everyone and being tenderhearted.
Survivors include his father and mother, Joseph H. Dugger Sr. and Mildred D. Dugger of Freeport; his wife, Amelia Dugger of Batam, Indonesia; brother, James H. Dugger of Pensacola, Fla.; and sister, Melody Bogle of Seagrove Beach, Fla.; as well as other numerous relatives.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Oct. 27, at Clary-Godwin Freeport Chapel with the Rev. Louis Taunton officiating. Burial will follow in Hatcher Cemetery.
A time of visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Clary-Godwin Freeport Chapel.
Clary-Godwin Funeral Home, Freeport Chapel, is in charge of the arrangements.

Hansford Lawson
Hansford Lawson of Fort Walton Beach, Fla., passed away Oct. 23, 2000, at the age of 90.
He was born on Oct. 1, 1910, in Washington County, Ky., to Henry and Mattie Lawson. He was a resident of Louisa, Va., where he owned and operated his dairy farms after retirement from Chicago Northwestern Railroad Co. as a railroad conductor. He later moved to Florida in 1996.
He is survived by his loving wife of 68 years, Kathryn R. Lawson of Fort Walton Beach; daughters, Sally Vipperman of Fort Walton Beach, and Patricia Kober of Louisa; son, Larry H. and wife Sherry of Candler, N.C.; granddaughters, Debbie Clark and husband Vern of Fort Walton Beach, and Kathryn Fields and husband Glen of Louisa; grandsons, John Kober and wife Mary of Louisa, Craig and Scott Lawson of Candler; great-grandsons, Shawn Clark and Brian Clark of Fort Walton Beach, J.C. Reid and wife Beverly of Richmond, Va., Eric Fields and Johnny Kober of Louisa; great-granddaughter, Annie Kober of Louisa; and a great-great-granddaughter, Kimberly Reid of Richmond, Va.
A time of visitation will be held on Friday, Oct. 27, from 5 to 7 p.m. at McLaughlin Mortuary.
Graveside services will be conducted in the Garden of Hope at Beal Memorial Cemetery at 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 28, with Dr. Ron Wilcoxson officiating.
McLaughlin Mortuary, 17 Chestnut Ave., Fort Walton Beach, is entrusted with arrangements.

Jay L. Baird
Col. Jay L. Baird was born on Oct. 19, 1947, in Parsons, Kan. He passed away Oct. 20, 2000.
He graduated in aeronautical engineering from Wichita State University in 1970 and received a masters in management sciences from Troy State University in 1988.
He retired from his last assignment in February 2000 as Deputy Director for Plans, Policy and Planning, Headquarters Air Force Operational Test and Evaluation Center, Kirtland Air Force Base, New Mexico.
During his 29-year career, he flew 2,800 flight hours, including 70 hours of combat time. He flew the F-4C/D/E/G, R-F-4, F-111, T-38, T-37 and T-41 in accomplishing these hours and reaching the status of command pilot. His military education included Squadron Officers School, Fighter Weapons School, Air Command and Staff College, Air War College and Joint Staff Officer Training.
Col. Baird is survived by his daughter, Diana K. Baird of Fort Walton Beach, Fla.; his wife, Lynn Baird of Albuquerque, N.M.; his brother, Stephen Baird of Parsons, Kan.; his sister, Janice Swinney of Deming, N.M.; and nieces and nephews in New Mexico and Kansas.
Jay was under the care of Hospice in his final days and a memorial service was held in Albuquerque.
In his memory, donations may be made to the Fort Walton Beach High School Girl's Soccer Team, 400 S.W. Hollywood Blvd., Fort Walton Beach, FL 32548, in care of Coach Jim St. John.

John K. Cullen M.D.
Dr. John Knox Cullen, major general U.S. Air Force retired, age 92, of Westwood Retirement Resort, Fort Walton Beach, Fla., passed away Wednesday, Oct. 25, 2000, from complications of diabetes.
Dr. Cullen was born in Pittsburgh on Dec. 18, 1907. He graduated in 1932 from the University of Pittsburgh with a bachelor of science and doctor of medicine degrees.
He entered the U.S. Army in 1933 and transferred to the newly established Air Force Medical Service in 1949. The highlights of his military career included Deputy Surgeon General of the Air Force, and Surgeon General, USAF Europe. His military honors included the Distinguished Service Medal, the Legion of Merit, the Bronze Star, and various campaign and service awards.
Dr. Cullen retired from the Air Force in 1965 and became the medical director of Pan American Airways. It was during this second career that the Aerospace Medical Association elected him to Fellowship and gave him the Howard K. Edwards Memorial Award for outstanding practice of aviation medicine.
Locally, Dr. Cullen was a member of the Retired Officers' Association of Northwest Florida; the old Soldiers' Cribbage Club; the Mens' Club of Westwood; and he did volunteer work for the American Cancer Society; Meals on Wheels; and worked at the Retiree Information desk at Eglin Air Force Base Hospital. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Fort Walton Beach.
Most of all he is remembered for his warmth, kindness and ever-ready smile.
He is survived by his wife, Louise; his sister, Virginia; his daughter, Suzanne; his son, Jack; six grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, Oct. 30, at McLaughlin Mortuary.
Memorial services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 31, at First Presbyterian Church in Fort Walton Beach with Dr. John R. Walchenbach officiating. Inurnment of his cremains will be in Beal Memorial Cemetery, with full military honors, at 11 a.m., following services.
It is requested that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Alzheimer Family Services, 3454 E. Olive Road, Pensacola, FL 32514.

Marjorie Harper
Marjorie Harper, age 73, of Destin, Fla., died Tuesday, Oct. 24, 2000, in Orlando Regional Medical Center.
She was born on Nov. 19, 1926, in Berrien County, Ga., to the late Perry Hendley and Mona Griner Hendley. Mrs. Harper was a homemaker and a member of Village Baptist Church in Destin.
She is survived by her husband, Vinson Harper of Destin; sons, Hugh Harper of Tequesta, Fla., and Hal Harper of Niceville, Fla.; two grandchildren; brother, Elison Hendley of Nashville, Ga.
Services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday in the chapel of Lovein Funeral Home with the Rev. Willie Heath officiating, with burial in Nashville memorial Gardens.

Ben Murray Allen Jr.
Ben Murray "Benjy" Allen Jr. of Mossy Head, Fla., age 32, passed away Oct. 24, 2000, unexpectedly at his home.
Benjy was born in Fort Walton Beach, Fla., on Sept. 4, 1968, and was a resident of Mossy Head since 1974. He was a graduate of Niceville High School in 1986. Mr. Allen was an electrician and a self-employed mechanic.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Jewell Allen, in 1998. Survivors include his fianc�e and longtime companion, Julie Baccadutre; and son, Cody Louis Allen; father, Ben Murray Allen Sr. and wife Michelle, all of Mossy Head; sister, Daffney McCullough and husband Ken; nephew Drew McCullough, all of Niceville, Fla.; grandparents, Louis and Laura Bell Regans of Niceville, and Katie Samuels of Bayou La Batre, Ala.; many aunts, uncles, cousins and numerous friends in the area.
Benjy was loved and will be missed by all who knew him.
The family will receive friends at McLaughlin Twin Cities Funeral Home in Niceville from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 28, at First Baptist Church in Niceville with the Rev. Tony McCullough officiating. Burial will follow in Mossy Head Community Cemetery.

Carl William Schmidt III
Tech. Sgt. Carl William Schmidt III of Fort Walton Beach, Fla., passed away Tuesday, Oct. 24, 2000.
He was on active duty in the U.S. Air Force and was a lifetime member of the PGA Tour Club. He was very much loved and will be sadly missed by his friends and family.
Tech. Sgt. Schmidt is survived by his parents, Carl and Priscilla Schmidt of Charlotte, N.C.; son, Joshua Schmidt of Fort Walton Beach; daughter, Jennifer Abbott of Charlotte; and best friend, Angela Langford of Charlotte.
He is also survived by several aunts and uncles; two nieces; and many friends.
Local funeral services were conducted at Eglin Air Force Base, Fla., on Thursday, Oct. 26. Burial will take place in Charlotte.
Memorial donations may be made to Joshua Schmidt, 2300 Pruitt St., Charlotte, NC 28208.

Mary Williams Edmondson
Mary Williams Edmondson, age 80, of Crestview, Fla., passed away Thursday, Oct. 26, 2000.
She was born on Aug. 6, 1920, in Early County, Ga., and had lived in Blakely, Ga., before moving to Crestview in 1995. Mrs. Edmondson was a homemaker and a member of Westview United Methodist Church in Blakely.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister; four brothers; and a son, Jimmy Lee Edmondson.
Survivors include her husband, Wade Edmondson; daughter, Judy Brinkley; grandsons, Todd and Malda Gay, and Jeff and Mary Gay, all of Crestview; granddaughters, Lee and Joel Grimes, and Jill and Amy Edmondson; and five great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 28, at Manry-Jordan-Hodges Funeral Home in Blakely. Burial will follow in Blakely Cemetery.

Deborah Clarke Brooks
Deborah Clarke Brooks, age 44, of Destin, Fla., passed away Thursday, Oct. 26, 2000, as the result of an automobile accident in Fort Walton Beach, Fla.
Deborah was born on June 27, 1956, in Milton, Fla. She was a lifelong resident of Okaloosa County, Fla. Deborah was a graduate of Crestview Senior High School Class of 1974, and Okaloosa-Walton Community College.
Deborah is survived by her parents, Clifford E. and Dimple E. Jones Clarke of Destin; sons, Jeremy, Daniel and Dakota; brother, Dennis E. Clarke and sister-in-law Shirley Clarke, and niece Megan Clarke of Crestview, Fla.; uncle, James Clarke of Millan, Ga. Deborah is also survived by several aunts and uncles, and numerous cousins and other friends and relatives in this area.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 28, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Del Cerro Camino in Crestview, with Bishop Cahoon officiating. Deborah will lie in state at the church one hour prior to funeral services. Burial will follow in Live Oak Park Memorial Cemetery in Crestview.
Brackney Funeral Service, Crestview, is in charge of arrangements.
