Thea Bailey
Thea Bailey, 103, of Fort Walton Beach, died Friday morning, Dec. 1, 2000, in a local nursing home.
She was born in Flensberg, Germany, and came to the U.S. when she was 11 years old. Most of her adult life was spent in New York City, where she worked at a press bureau on Wall Street and then as a milliner on Fifth Avenue.
She also lived in Scarsdale, N.Y., and Weems, Va., before coming to Fort Walton Beach in the early eighties.
She was preceded in death by her mother, father, husband, sister, three brothers, and two sons, Bob and Bill.
She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Frank and Jo Bailey of Fort Walton Beach; seven grandchildren, Terri, Robin, Fankie, Thea, Anne, Peter, Paul, and Herald. She is also survived by 10 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be announced at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to St. Mary's Catholic Church in Fort Walton Beach.
Emerald Coast Funeral Home, Fort Walton Beach, is in charge of arrangements.

Gladys V. Smith
Mrs. Gladys V. Smith went unexpectedly to be with our Lord on Nov. 28, 2000.
She was born in Kiln, Miss., on Feb. 23, 1931. She was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Sylvester and Rita Lott.
She was an avid bowler and was on a number of leagues as well as attending a number of state championships.
She was preceded in death by her sisters, Elise Brandon, Velma Pilgrim and Virgie Evans.
She is survived by her daughter, Gail Bankston and her husband John; grandchildren, Shawn Michele Smith and Michele Lynn Bankston, all of Fort Walton Beach, Fla.; nieces and nephews, Janice, Patricia, Linda, Tom, Larry, Johnny, Sharon, Barbara, Eddie, Theresa, Christy and all their families.
She will be greatly missed by all.
A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. at McLaughlin Mortuary Chapel on Monday, Dec. 4, 2000, with Father Kevin Johnson officiating.
McLaughlin Mortuary is entrusted with arrangements.

Joseph G. Mayer
Joseph G. "Joe" Mayer passed away suddenly Friday, Dec. 1, 2000, at Shands of University of Florida Hospital in Gainesville, Fla.
Joe was born on Dec. 6, 1945, in St. Joseph, Mo. He served his country and retired from active duty in the U.S. Air Force and lived in Okaloosa County, Fla., since 1976. He was a member of the International Horseshoers Hall of Fame.
Mr. Mayer was preceded in death by his mother, Lucille. Survivors include his wife, Mary Ellen Mayer of Laurel Hill; son, Joseph Mayer of Santa Rosa Beach, Fla.; daughter and son-in-law, Tina and Robert Tucker of Bedias, Texas; a beautiful grandson, Blake Tucker; father, George Mayer of Millsboro, Dela.; brother and sister-in-law, Ken and Marilyn Mayer of East Greenville, Pa.; two nieces, Liesa and Dawn Mayer; and mother-in-law, Helen Shea.
Joe lived his life well, doing nothing in moderation. His legacy to family and friends is that of love, integrity and humor. Joe would want everyone who knew him to celebrate his life and to balance any sadness with good stories and laughter.
A time of visitation will be conducted at Whitehurst Funeral Home from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, with a vigil service conducted at 7 p.m. with the Rev. Father John Kelly officiating.
A Mass of the Resurrection will be conducted at Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church on Wednesday, Dec. 6, which is also Joe's 55th birthday, at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Father John Kelly as celebrant. Interment will follow in Magnolia Cemetery in Laurel Hill.
Flowers will be accepted, or for those who desire, the family suggests contributions in Joe's name to a favorite charity. The family asks you to consider RACE, a local therapeutic horseback riding program that was very special to Joe. Their address is P.O. Box 123, Baker, FL 32531. Whitehurst Funeral Home, Crestview, Fla., is in charge of arrangements.

Lillian C. Bondi
Lillian C. Bondi, age 86, of Navarre, Fla., died Sunday, Dec. 3, 2000, in a local hospital.
She was born in Sicily, Italy, on April 20, 1914, and lived in Navarre since 1990. She attended St. Marys Catholic Church in Fort Walton Beach, Fla.
Survivors include her daughter, Mary Morell and husband Arthur of Navarre; son, Joseph Bondi and wife Florence of Brooklyn, N.Y.; granddaughter, Anna Marie; and niece and nephews, Joseph, Richard and Laura Anne.
McLaughlin Mortuary, 17 Chestnut Ave., Fort Walton Beach, is in charge of arrangements.

Ernest Goodhart Sr.
On Dec. 3, 2000, Ernest Goodhart Sr., age 77, died peacefully at his home.
He was born in New York City and took up residence in Crestview, Fla., after serving in the U.S. Air Force in both World War II and Korea. Mr. Goodhart and his family moved to Fort Walton Beach, Fla., in 1957.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 49 years, Olivia Garrett Goodhart, in 1995. His son, David Goodhart, passed away in 1973 shortly before his 21st birthday.
Mr. Goodhart is survived by his sons, Ernest Goodhart Jr. and wife Terri, and Douglas Goodhart and wife Patti; daughter, Teena Goodhart; grandchildren, Traci Goodhart, Jonathan Goodhart, David Goodhart, Maggie Goodhart, Krista Ripley and Stephanie Ripley; nine nieces; three nephews; and 14 (Garrett grandchildren plus Loren and Jonathan) great-nieces and nephews; and other relatives and friends.
Friends and family may call at McLaughlin Funeral Home on Wednesday, Dec. 6, from 6 to 8 p.m. Funeral services will be conducted at McLaughlin Mortuary Chapel at 2:30 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 7, followed by interment at Beal Memorial Cemetery, with full military honors.
The family wishes to give special thanks to the entire Skinner family, to Lewie and Martha Tidwell, Billy and Sue Grubbs, Dolores Fountain and Harold Sundy for their longstanding love and friendship to the Goodhart/Garrett family.
The family requests memorial contributions be made in the name of Ernest Goodhart Sr. to Hospice of Northwest Florida.

Della McDonald
Della McDonald, age 81,of Holt, Fla., passed away Sunday night, Dec. 3, 2000.
Mrs. McDonald was born on Jan. 31, 1919, and was a lifelong resident of Okaloosa County, Fla. She was a retired postmistress with the Holt Post Office. Mrs. McDonald was a member of First Baptist Church of Holt, where she served as treasurer for many years.
Mrs. McDonald was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, J.R. McDonald, on Nov. 7, 2000. Survivors include her daughter and husband, Lillian and Hansel Miller of Mossy Head, Fla.; sons, James T. McDonald of Holt, Riley L. and wife Donna McDonald of Crestview, Fla., and Gene R. and wife Carol McDonald of Holt; brothers, William W. "Bill" Parker of Holt, and Aubrey M. Parker of Milton, Fla.; nine grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 6, at First Baptist Church of Holt with the Revs. John Stacey and David Wheat officiating.
Burial will follow in Pleasant Home Cemetery in Harold, Fla.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Mrs. McDonald will lie in state at the church one hour prior to services.Brackney Funeral Service, Crestview, is in charge of arrangements.

Brecilia Caltagirone
Brecilia Caltagirone, age 89, of Fort Walton Beach, Fla., passed away Dec. 1, 2000, in a local nursing home.
She was born on Feb. 17, 1911, in Tampa, Fla., daughter of the late Danton and Lydia Claramunt. She had resided in Tampa all of her life before moving to Fort Walton Beach in 1997. Brecilia was a wonderful cook and seamstress, but her greatest devotion was taking care of her family. She was Catholic by faith.
She is survived by two daughters, Georgia Thomas of Mary Esther, Fla., and Frances Toledo of Tampa, Fla.; son, James Caltagirone and wife Denise of Tampa; grandchildren, Christopher Thomas of Mary Esther, Corey, Allison and Laina Caltagirone, and Suzanne Almenqual, all of Tampa. She is also survived by two great-grandchildren, Shea and Ashley Warner.
Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 9, at Emerald Coast Funeral Home with father Sean Garrett officiating.

Barbara S. Haun
Barbara S. Haun, age 68, of Mary Esther, Fla., went home to be with her Lord on Wednesday, Dec. 6, 2000, while under the care of Hospice.
She was a devoted Christian and loved her Lord Jesus Christ. Barbara attended The Living Word Evangelistic Church in Navarre, Fla. She moved to Mary Esther in 1979 from Richmond, Va.
She is survived by a son, Anthony S. Mills and wife Mary of Fort Walton Beach, Fla.; daughter, Murline D. Price and husband Stan of Mary Esther; mother, Eleanor M. Snyder of Mary Esther; grandchildren, Amy, Elisabeth, Kathryn and Teresa Price, all of Mary Esther. Barbara is also survived by two sisters, Margie Tunnell and husband Lawrence of Oak Ridge, Tenn., and Bertha Ellen Myers and husband Jack of Johnson City, Tenn.; several nieces and nephews; and many friends.
Funeral services will be conducted on Friday at 2 p.m. at Emerald Coast Funeral Home with Pastor Bob Brown officiating. The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m. before the service. Burial will follow in Beal Memorial Cemetery.
The family graciously accepts flowers, or memorial donations may be made to Hospice of Northwest Florida.

Robert S. Hamilton
Robert S. Hamilton of Niceville, Fla., entered into eternal rest at Baptist Hospital in Pensacola, Fla., following a brief illness on Dec. 5, 2000. He was 75 years old.
Born in Cincinnati on May 28, 1925, he was the son of the late Herbert N. and Elizabeth (Michie) Hamilton.
Robert was an area resident since 1993, moving from Montgomery, Ala. He served his country for 33 years as a navigator in the U.S. Air Force, retiring as a colonel.
He was a member of the United Methodist Church in Niceville. He was also a proud graduate of the University of Maryland, where he received his master's degree in business administration.
Robert was past president of the Retired Officers' Association in Montgomery and was also a member of the Retired Officers' Association at Eglin Air Force Base, Fla.
Robert was a loving husband and father and friend who will be deeply missed by his family and friends alike.
Survivors include his wife Barbara of Niceville; sons, Richard C. Hamilton of Cheney, Wash., and Jim Hamilton of Bozeman, Mont.; stepson, Kevin Hodge of Fredrick, Md.; daughters, Nancy Dent of Daphne, Ala., and Debbie Norris of Montgomery; and sister, Patricia Anne Curtis of Richmond, Calif.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 9, at first United Methodist Church of Niceville with the Rev. Rurel Ausley officiating. The church is located at 214 S. Partin Drive, in Niceville.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to the American Cancer Society, 4 Jackson St. N.E., Fort Walton Beach,
Fla.; or to a charity of one's choice.

Dewey Carlos Floyd
Dewey Carlos Floyd, age 75, of Fort Walton Beach, Fla., died Dec. 6, 2000.
He was a native of Wetumpka, Ala., and lived in Fort Walton Beach for the past 40 years. He retired from Vitro Services and was a member of First Baptist Church of Fort Walton Beach. He was a loving son, husband, brother, father and grandfather. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
He is survived by his mother, Verla Mae Floyd of Wetumpka, Ala.; wife, Betty Floyd of Fort Walton Beach; sons, Wes (Theresa) Floyd of Pace, Fla., and Steve (Erica) Floyd of Mobile, Ala.; daughters, Joanie Pape of Navarre, Fla., and Julie Floyd and her fiance' Thomas Leach of Valparaiso, Fla.; brother, Jasper Floyd of Wetumpka, Ala.; and five grandchildren, Christopher, Courtney, Ryan, Camryn and Kaitlynn.
Funeral services will be conducted at 4 p.m. Friday at Rose Lawn Funeral Home in Gulf Breeze, Fla., with Dr. Howard Gates of First Baptist Church of Fort Walton Beach officiating. Entombment will follow in Rose Lawn Cemetery Mausoleum.
Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Rose Lawn Funeral Home.
