Bernice O. O'Neal
Bernice O. O'Neal, age 69, a lifelong resident of the Portland, Fla., area died Thursday, Dec. 14, 2000, in a local hospital.
Mrs. O'Neal was born on Oct. 7, 1931, in Baker, Fla., daughter of the late Claude and Inez Hart Smith. She was a member of Eastern Star of Freeport, Fla., and loved spending time with her grandchildren. She was Protestant by faith and was a member of the New Beginnings Church of Freeport.
Survivors include her husband of 53 years, Bill O'Neal of Portland; daughter, Bernice O. Morrison of Freeport; brother, Shelton Brown of Freeport; sisters, Dorothy Hutto of Newton, Ala., Grace Suggs of Panama City, Fla., and Wynell Esquibel of Portland; grandchildren, Tilton Morrison and wife Dana, William Morrison and wife Stephanie, and James "Tater" Morrison and wife Shannon; and six great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted at 3 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 17, at Clary-Godwin Freeport Chapel with the Rev. Louis Taunton officiating. Burial will follow in Hatcher Cemetery.
A time of visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday at Clary-Godwin Freeport Chapel.
Pallbearers will be Mrs. O'Neal's grandsons, Tilson Morrison, William Morrison and James "Tater" Morrison, nephews Mike Suggs and Leonard Suggs, and serving as honorary pallbearer will be Mrs. O'Neal's great-grandson, Herbert Morrison.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to New Beginnings Church at P.O. Box 1022, Freeport, FL 32439.
Clary-Godwin Freeport Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

Mary Estelle McDonald
Mary Estelle Kelly McDonald, age 93, of Navarre, Fla., passed away Wednesday, Dec. 13, 2000.
She was born on Feb. 12, 1907, in Covington County, Ala. She was a resident of Montgomery, Ala., until 1963 when the family moved to the Fort Walton Beach, Fla., area. Mrs. McDonald was educated at Brevard College in Brevard, N.C. She was well read and enthusiastic about politics, sports and gardening.
Mrs. McDonald was preceded in death by her husband, Charles L. McDonald, who passed away in 1972, and is survived by her sons, C.D. McDonald and Joe B. McDonald and wife Patsy; grandchildren, Charles L. McDonald, Richard McDonald and wife Sherry, Joe G. McDonald and wife Patti; granddaughter, Susan Lehr; eight great-grandchildren; and sisters, Edith Walker, Ola Purcell and Mary Reid.
A memorial service will be conducted at 4 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 17, at McLaughlin Mortuary Chapel with Chaplain Frank Dole officiating.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, the American Cancer Society, or Hospice of Northwest Florida.

Kate Johnston Laing
Kate Johnston Laing, age 82, of Escambia Farms, Fla., died Friday, Dec. 15, 2000, at Silvercrest Manor Nursing Home in Crestview, Fla.
Mrs. Laing was born in Coffee County, Ala., on Jan. 30, 1918, to Stephen and Fannie Grimes Johnston and was a resident of the Northwest Florida area since 1957. She was a member of Baker United Methodist Church in Baker, Fla.
Mrs. Laing was preceded in death by her husband, Roy E. Laing. Survivors include her sons, Roy E. Laing of Holt, Fla., Cecil T. Laing of Ridgecrest, Calif., and Clyde E. Laing of Escambia Farms, Fla.; daughter, Millie Sanders Bailey of Opelika, Ala.; sister, Fannie Lou Collins of Palatka, Fla.; grandchildren, Roy Q. Sanders, Karren Kay Matthews, Richard W. Laing, Myra L. Laing, Tina Laing Lawson and Christine Edwards; and 11 great-grandchildren.
A time of visitation will be conducted at Whitehurst Funeral Home from 6 to 9 p.m. Saturday.
Funeral services will be conducted from the chapel of Whitehurst Funeral Home at 2 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 17, with the Revs. Ken Taylor and Nancy Snyder officiating. Interment will follow the service in Erwin Cemetery on Highway 85 south, Niceville, Fla., on Eglin Air Force Base reservation.

Dorothy Rominger
Dorothy J. Rominger of Valparaiso, Fla., passed away Dec. 14, 2000, in a local hospital.
She was born in Royal Oak, Mich., and was a resident of Florida for most of her life. Dorothy will be greatly missed by her five children and other family members.
At her request, no services will be held.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in her memory to Hospice of Northwest Florida, 101 Hart St., Niceville, FL 32578.
Emerald Coast Funeral Home, 113 Racetrack Road, Fort Walton Beach, Fla., is in charge of arrangements.

Vernon D. Cobb
Vernon D. Cobb, age 87, died Wednesday, Dec. 13, 2000, in a local hospital.
He was born in Toledo, Ohio, on July 14, 1913. Mr. Cobb was the only son of the late Roy and Fairy Cobb. As a young man he served in the last active unit of the U.S. Army Cavalry. After leaving the Army, Mr. Cobb became an enthusiastic hunter and fisherman. His broad interests included membership in the Southern Michigan Sportsman Club, the Power Squadron, ham radio operation WA8AIE, and sailing his boat. Mr. Cobb was a supervisor with Allied Chemical in Toledo for 30 years, retiring to Florida in 1977.
Mr. Cobb is survived by his wife of 61 years, Dorothy Cobb; son, David Cobb (Laura) of Toledo; daughters, Carol Herman (James) of Sylvania, Ohio, Stephanie McClintock (James) of Fort Walton Beach, Fla., and Melissa McDonnold (Michael) of Fort Walton Beach; 10 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Private memorial services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 17, in McLaughlin Mortuary Chapel with the Rev. Ashley Pogue officiating.
Memorials may be sent to the Salvation Army in memory of Vernon Cobb.

Mabel McCallum Bolton
Mabel McCallum Bolton, age 87, of Crestview, Fla., passed away Friday, Dec. 15, 2000.
She was the daughter of the late John Douglas and Nora Jane Garrett McCallum. She was born in Walton County, Fla., on Sept. 25, 1913.
Preceding her in death was her husband, James Curtis Bolton.
She was an active member of First United Methodist Church in Crestview for over 50 years, was a member of the Philathia Sunday school class, and the Morning Glory Circle. She was also a former member of Crestview Garden Club and Eastern Star.
Mrs. Bolton is survived by her children, Betty Wiens (Jack) of Jacksonville, Fla., Doris Gaines (Bob) of Pensacola, Fla., Ray Bolton (Dot) of Crestview, and Melba Richardson (Bill) of Montgomery, Ala.; grandchildren, David Wiens, Lynn Wiens, both of California, Kelly Wiens Hoover (Rick) of Jacksonville, Fla., Jacqueline Wiens White (Richard) of Pennsville, N.J., Jennifer Gaines McKenzie (Ken) of Fairfax, Va., Amante Gaines Coppes (David) of Wakefield, Mass., Edmund Gaines of Pensacola, Calif., Steve Bolton (Chris) of Crestview, Rodney Bolton (Melody) of Baker, Fla., Alicia Bolton Humphries (Patrick) of Crestview, William Richardson (Angie) of Birmingham, Ala., and Mary Catherine Richardson of Montgomery, Ala. In addition to her children and grandchildren, she is survived by 13 great-great-grandchildren; sisters, Kate Thorne of Paxton, Fla., Helen McCallum Holleman, Eleanor McCallum Wilson, both of Crestview, and Isabelle McCallum Owens of Niceville, Fla.; brother, Donald McCallum of Crestview; and several nieces and nephews.
The family wishes to thank the staff of Azalea Trace of Pensacola and Hospice for their care and compassion.
A time of visitation will be from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Saturday at Whitehurst Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 17, at First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Dick Wright and Father Robert Graves officiating. Burial will follow in Liveoak Park Memorial Cemetry.

Mary Estelle Kelly McDonald, age 93, of Navarre, Fla., passed away Wednesday, Dec. 13, 2000.

Gladys Rice Wood
Gladys Rice Wood, 79, of Niceville, Fla., passed away Dec. 14, 2000, at Fort Walton Beach Medical Center. She will be missed by all who knew and loved her.
She was born Feb. 13, 1921, in Isbell, Ala.
Her love for animals was evident. She especially enjoyed walking her dog, Poochie, around the neighborhood. She also spent many hours watching the birds and squirrels play and eat at the bird feeder in her yard.
Survivors include her husband of 64 years, Eddie W. Wood; daughter and son-in-law, Sue and Fred Ellis of Slidell, La.; son and daughter-in-law, Judson and Sharron Wood of Niceville; daughter and son-in-law, Vicky and Johnny Basford of Wimauma, Fla.; son and daughter-in-law, Ricky and Vivian Wood of Houston, Texas; sister, Jane Emberg of Sheffield, Ala.; grandchildren include Richard Ellis, David Wood, Jennifer and Jamie Basford and Marvin and Nathan Poore; and great-grandchildren, Brittany Ellis and Skye Poore. She was preceded in death by her parents, James Judson and Bessie Beulah Rice; and sisters, Louise Colburn, Estelle Barton and Hazel Bailey.
Friends may call from 5 to 7 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 18, 2000, at McLauglin Twin Cities Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 19, 2000, at Niceville Church of Christ, with the Rev. Joseph Palmer officiating.
Burial will follow at Sunset Cemetery in Valparaiso.

James Allan Buckingham
James A. Buckingham, age 61, of Shalimar, died on Friday, Dec. 15, 2000, at the Fort Walton Beach Medical Center.
James was born on Nov. 15, 1939, in Iowa City, Iowa. He honorably served his country in the U.S.A.F., was a Vietnam veteran, and retired as a Lieutenant Colonel. He was an avid fly-fisherman, and loved the outdoors.
He was preceded in death by his father, Benjamin Clift Buckingham, of Des Moines, Iowa, on Aug. 2, 2000.
Survivors include his mother, Ruth Ball Buckingham of Des Moines, Iowa; wife, Lee Word Buckingham; children Margaret Thornton of Foley, Ala., Ben Buckingham of Niceville; grandson, Jake Garrett Waters of Foley, Ala.; uncle Franklin Buckingham of Cherokee, Iowa. No local services will be held at this time, however, a memorial service honoring Jim will be held at a later date.
Funeral services and burial will be in Des Moines, Iowa, under the direction of Dunn's Funeral Home, 2121 Grand Ave., Des Moines, Iowa 50312. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Coastal Conservation Association of Florida 1890 Semoran Blvd. Suite 355, Winter Park, FL 32792, phone 407-672-2058.

Carrie Fennie Allison
Mrs. Carrie Fennie Allison, age 97, of DeFuniak Springs, died Saturday, Dec. 16, 2000, in a local hospital.
Born in Shelby, N.C. on Nov. 5, 1903, she was the daughter of the late Samuel and Rachel Loucressia Humphris.
Moving here from Lakeland, Mrs. Allison had been a resident of Walton County for the past 70 years and an owner-operator of Allison's Grocery Store for the past 60 years.
She was a Baptist by faith and had been a member of the First Baptist Church of DeFuniak Springs. Mrs. Allison was preceded in death by her husband, Wayne Scott Allison, and one daughter, Rachel Ella Miller.
Mrs. Fennie Allison is survived by one daughter, Carolyn Spikes of DeFuniak Springs; five grandchildren, Gregory Spikes of DeFuniak Springs, Patricia Steven of Washington, D.C., Richard G. Spikes and wife Patricia of Tallahassee, Bob Scott Miller of Minnesota and Nancy Campbell and husband Fred of Tennessee; seven great grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren.
Funeral services for Mrs. Allison will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 21, 2000 at the First Baptist Church in DeFuniak Springs, with Rev. Charles Gray officiating. Burial will follow in Magnolia Cemetery.
A time of visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 20, 2000 in the Commander Funeral Home Chapel, 21 W. Main St., DeFuniak Springs.
Commander Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
