ROSE HILL, Va. - Drury L. Bacon Jr., 82, passed away Saturday (May 18, 2002) at Smyth County Community Hospital in Marion, Va.
He was a lifelong resident of Lee County, Va., a retired farmer, and was of the Methodist faith.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Pauline DeBusk Bacon; his parents, Drury L. Bacon Sr. and Patsy Ely Bacon; six brothers, Edgar, Clyde, Fayne, James O., Earl and Gene Bacon; one sister, Hazel Bolton.
Surviving are three sons, Horace Bacon, Indianapolis, Ind., D.L. Bacon III, Arizona, Harry Bacon, Knoxville; four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; one sister, Mary Porter, Radford, Va.
Calling hours are from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at the Arney-Mullins Funeral Home in Jonesville, Va.

Jerry Benfield, 55, Jonesville, Va.
JONESVILLE, Va. - Jerry Franklin Benfield, 55, died Saturday (May 17, 2002) at his home in Jonesville.
Born in Lee County, Va., he had been a resident of the county most of his life. He was a truck driver.
He was of the Baptist faith.
He was preceded in death by one son, Scottie Benfield; parents, Fred and Lucille Benfield; one sister, Freda Benfield; one brother, James (John O.) Wiles; one nephew, Art Cowden Jr.
Survivors include one son, Fred Benfield and wife Jenny of Jonesville; two stepsons, Corey and Wesley Jones; three granddaughters, Allie Rose, Eden and Alisha Dawn Benfield; one brother, Merle (Hoot) Wiles of Jonesville; three sisters, Linda Schaeffer, Mary Sweeney and Sue Hinkle, all of Jonesville; four nieces, Melissa Dvall, Susan and Taylor Rasnic, and Jennifer Hll, of Jonesville; two nephews, James Schaffer and Jordan Rasnic of Jonesville.
Calling hours are from 6 to 9 p.m. today at Province Funeral Home of Jonesville.
Services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday in the sanctuary of the funeral home with the Rev. J.D. Owens officiating.
Burial will be in Woodard Cemetery, Jonesville.

Eva Cinnamon, 87, Rogersville.
ROGERSVILLE - Eva Cinnamon, 87, of Kite Road, the Strahl community, went home to be with the Lord Friday evening (May 17, 2002) at Morristown Hamblen Hospital.
She was a member of Persia Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Monroe Cinnamon; son, Arnold Cinnamon; grandson, Keith Cinnamon; two brothers, Albert Manis and C.J. Manis; and one sister, Ruth Barnes.
Surviving are her children, Carol Hughes and husband Louis, Rogersville, Peggy Moriarty and husband Dan, Knoxville, Norman Cinnamon and wife Debbie, Rogersville, Frank Cinnamon and wife Margaret, Rogersville, and Vernon Cinnamon and wife Wanda, Church Hill; three sisters, Beulah Perry and Ola Gibson, both of Rogersville, and Lura Bishop, of Virginia; 10 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; several nieces and nephews.

Roy Bryan Davis, 83, Kingsport.
KINGSPORT - Roy Bryan "Slick" Davis, 83, passed away at 5 a.m. Friday (May 17, 2002) after a brief fight with cancer.
Born on June 25, 1918 in Grayson County, Va., he was the son of the late A.J. Davis and Dora Ann Gilly Davis. He served in the U.S. Army and was a 38-year employee of Mead Corp.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Dale F. Davis, Carl Davis and Smith R. Davis; and two sisters, Ruth Davis and Mamie Davis Barker.
Surviving are his wife of 59 years, Martha Mayo Davis, Kingsport; one son, Roy Glenn Davis and wife, Julia, Kingsport; one daughter, Judy Davis Kenner and husband, Jerry, Kingsport; one grandson, Jerry L. Kenner II and wife, Rhonda, Kingsport; three granddaughters, Lorie Kenner Williams and husband, Junior, Brooke Kenner Gentry and husband, Stacy, Amanda Ellen Kenner and fiance, Jason Phillips, all of Kingsport; two great-grandchildren, Jackilyn Annabelle and Adam Jeffrey Kenner, both of Kingsport; one unborn great-grandson, Walker Bryan Gentry; two brothers, Ralph Davis, Kingsport, Ray Davis, North Carolina; one sister, Grace Davis Barr, Kingsport; several nieces and nephews; special friends, Nick and Shirley Nickels and Keith and Teresa Pendleton.
Graveside services will be conducted at 1 p.m. today at Oak Hill Cemetery with military rites conducted by American Legion Hammond Post No. 3.

Glenn France, 38, Kingsport.
KINGSPORT - Glenn Junior France, 38, 1500 Carole St., passed away Friday morning (May 17, 2002).
Glenn was a lifelong resident of Kingsport, a very loved husband and father and a person who was loved by all.
He attended Way of Life Baptist Church. He had been an employee of the Kingsport Foundry and had served as the Union President at the foundry.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Ada Merle Davis McMurray; and second father, Don Ward.
Surviving are his wife, Angela Davis France, of the home; sons, Timothy Glenn France, of the home, Joseph Crawford and Jeffery Crawford, of Kingsport; brothers, Ricky D. France and wife, Rhonda and son, Richard, Kingsport, Robert William Ford Jr., Kingsport; sisters, Leatha Sue Brown and daughters, Savannah and Sierah, Kingsport, Sandra Floyd, Kingsport, Judy Gallagher, Maryville, Tenn., and Brenda Clark, Kingsport; second mother, Shirley Ward, Kingsport; her sons, Tony Ward and Donnie Ward, Church Hill; her daughter, Jenny Brickey, Ft. Blackmore, Va.; several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.

Clay C. Gilbert, 95, Church Hill.
CHURCH HILL - Clay Carson Gilbert, 95, of 140 Mountain Road, went home to be with the Lord Saturday (May 18, 2002) at Indian Path Medical Center following an extended illness. He was a resident of Sunbridge Hillside Manor.
Mr. Gilbert was a native of Greene County but had spent most of his life in Church Hill. He was a member of the McPheeters Bend Baptist Church and was a retired farmer.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Neatis Long Gilbert; his parents, J.J. and Nancy Crawford Gilbert; sisters, Hattie Gilbert, Martha Gilbert and Luna Love; brothers, Levi Gilbert, Oscar Gilbert, Harvey Gilbert, Bertsa Gilbert, Asa Gilbert and Frank Gilbert.
Survivors include one daughter and son-in-law, Ilene and Grady Ward, Church Hill; one son and daughter-in-law, Thurman and Verna Gilbert, Church Hill; three grandchildren, Shelia Smith, Sandra Gilbert and Duane Ward; one great-grandson, Brian Smith; several nieces and nephews.

KINGSPORT - Vernon "Verlin" Grills, 85, died Friday morning (May 17, 2002) at his home after a brief illness.
He was a lifelong resident of Sullivan County and a retired painter.
Mr. Grills attended Lynn Garden Evangelical Methodist Church.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Viola Carberry Grills; and sisters, Mary Kate Hite and Ola Nell Jones.
Surviving are one daughter, Carolyn Pratt and husband, Robert, Kingsport; one son, Clarence L. Grills and wife, Patty, Kingsport; three grandchildren, Michael Pratt and wife, Kim, Michelle Pratt and Brandon Grills; one sister, Lola Mae Carberry, Jonesborough; two brothers, J.W. Grills and Clarence "Wimpy" Grills, both of Jonesborough; and several nieces and nephews.

KINGSPORT - Alice Bloomer Lawson Hilton, 82, of 1733 Jefferson Ave., passed away Friday (May 17, 2002) at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center.
She was retired from J.P. Stevens.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Eastman Lawson; second husband, James T. Hilton; parents, Clarence and Elizabeth Wolfe Bloomer; two sisters, Nola Stapleton, Elsie Spradlin; three brothers, James Sam Bloomer, Eugene Bloomer, Clarence Junior Bloomer.
Survivors include her son, James Lawson and wife Dorothy, of Chuckey; two grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; four sisters, Eula Bloomer, Gladys Spivey, Louise Williams, all of Kingsport, and Joyce Fain, of Rogersville; brother, Horace Bloomer, of Rogersville; and several nieces and nephews.

Buena Jenkins, 88, Church Hill.
CHURCH HILL - Buena Barrett Jenkins, 88, 316 Jones Road, passed away Friday afternoon (May 17, 2002) at her residence.
She was born in Hawkins County and had resided in Sullivan and Hawkins Counties all of her life. She had retired from the Tennessee Eastman Company. She loved to go fishing with her family.
Mrs. Jenkins belonged to Piney Grove Missionary Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her first husband James Earl Cregger, in 1938; her parents, Emmett and Roena Derrick Barrett; a sister, Elsie Jeter; four brothers, Coy Barrett, Albert Barrett, Leon (Lynn) Barrett and Guy Barrett.
Surviving are her loving husband of 55 years, William (Bill) Gilbert Jenkins; a daughter, Earline Christian and her favorite son-in-law, Harold; a son, James Earl Cregger, both of Church Hill; five grandchildren, Daniel Christian, Mrs. Frank (Lora) Merrill, Melissa Taylor, Mrs. Bobby (Amy) Vaughn, Scott Christian and his wife Erin; 11 great-grandchildren, Shea, Haley, Allison and Frankie Merrill, Heather, Heath and Derek Taylor, Connor Barrett, Michael, Stephanie and Kayla Vaughn; two special nieces and caregivers, Clara M. Barrett and Glennie Barrett, both of Church Hill; along with several other nieces and nephews.

Helen L. Kunold, 84, Kingsport.
KINGSPORT - Helen L. Kunold, 84, of Outlook Point, passed away Friday (May 17, 2002) at 7:25 p.m. at Wilcox Hall after a brief illness.
She was born in Frondenberg, Germany, and lived recently in Spring Hill, Fla.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 66 years, William F. Kunold; her parents, Karl and Emma Siebert; and one infant son.
Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Will and Jean Kunold of Kingsport, and Herman and Carol Kunold of Nevada; three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; and one niece.
Private family interment will be in the East Lawn Memorial Park.

Lawrence Linkous, 82, Kingsport.
KINGSPORT - Lawrence Oscar Linkous, 82, went to be with the Lord Saturday (May 18, 2002) at Church Hill Health Care and Rehabilitation after a long illness.
Mr. Linkous attended Midfield Baptist Church.
He retired from Anderson Ford after 36 years of service. He was a loving and devoted husband who enjoyed life.
Lawrence was preceded in death by his parents, Onzie and Elizabeth Linkous; children, Brenda K. Browning (1999), Ronald Cox (2000); sister, Ella Maude Manes.
Survivors include his wife, Lois Emogene Linkous; daughter, Diane Waye, Bristol, Va.; sons, Roger E. and wife Marsha Linkous, Kingsport, Jerry W. and wife Susan Linkous, Greenville, S.C., Paul Cox, Kingsport, Wayne and wife Frances Cox, Adkins, Va.; very special friends at Church Hill Health Care and Rehab.; grandchildren, Gina Linkous, Steve Linkous, Shannon Kerns, David Cox, Randy Cox, Kim Gillenwater, Rhonda Minnick, Tony Cavin, Danny Cavin, Charlene Tunnell, Waylon Cox, Tammy Pech; 23 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; sister, Agnes McKinney; brother, Willard Linkous; several nieces and nephews.

John Martin Jr., 63, Kingsport.
KINGSPORT - John W. Martin Jr., 63, 2214 Idle Hour Road, passed away Thursday (May 16, 2002) at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center.
Mr. Martin was a native of Arlington, Va., but had lived in Kingsport for the last eight years. He was a retired tree contractor and was of the Baptist faith.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Della Williams Martin; seven brothers and two sisters.
Surviving are his wife, Anna Lee Ball Martin, Kingsport; three sons and daughters-in-law, James W. Martin, Kingsport, Curtis L. and Robin Martin, Kingsport and Harold E. and Rose Martin, Taylor, S.C.; two daughters and sons-in-law, Rose and Bill Hardy, Kingsport, Sandra and Wayne Nesmith, Orlando, Fla.; 11 grandchildren; three sisters, Birdie McFadden and Virginia K. Mayes, both of Richmond, Va., and Annie Jones, Amhurst, Va.; and several nieces and nephews.
Graveside services will be conducted at 1 p.m. today at McPheeters Bend Cemetery.

John McMillan, 58, Clinchport, Va.
CLINCHPORT, Va. - John Henry McMillan, 58, entered into rest on Thursday (May 16, 2002) at his residence.
Mr. McMillan was born in South Carolina on July 7, 1943. He was a son of the late Roy and Ruby Payne McMillan.
Other than his parents, Mr. McMillan was preceded in death by one sister, Susie Lovegreen; one brother, Jackie McMillan; and one nephew, Kevin Lovegreen.
Surviving are four sons, Clifford Dale McMillan of Michigan, Brian McMillan of Kingsport, Clarence Allen McMillan of West, Va., and John Wayne McMillan of Idaho; five brothers, A.P., Oren, Lester, Charles and Cecil McMillan; grandchildren, Joshua, Victoria and Elizabeth McMillan; several nieces and nephews.
Graveside services will be conducted at 2 p.m. today at the McMillan Family Cemetery in the Fairview community with the Rev. Allen McMillan and the Rev. David Peters officiating.
Eddie McMillan will provide music.
The family will be meeting at the cemetery at 1:45 p.m.
Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.

Richard J. Olberding, 60, Parkersburg, W.Va.
PARKERSBURG, W.Va. - Richard J. Olberding, 60, died Wednesday (May 15, 2002) at his residence.
He was born in Long Island, N.Y., a son of the late Carl and Sally Gerbe Olberding.
He was a Lutheran and a member of the Pipefitters Union Local 200 in Long Island, N.Y. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Patricia Anne Eddy Olberding; one brother; and one grandchild.
Surviving are five sons, Todd and Gregg Olberding, both of Florida, Terry Schau of Virginia, Randy Schau of South Carolina, and Craig Schau of Parkersburg; two brothers, William Olberding of Kingsport, and Robert Olberding of Sayville, N.Y.; one sister, Doris Hanson of East Moriches, N.Y.; and three grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today at Leavitt Funeral Home, Parkersburg, W.Va.
Services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
Burial will be at Evergreen Cemetery North.

Bobby Gene Owens, 71, Lebanon, Va.
LEBANON, Va. - Bobby Gene Owens, 71, died Saturday (May 18, 2002) in the Russell County Medical Center.
Born July 5, 1930, the son of the late Eugene Owens and Effie Brooks Owens, he was a retired contractor. He was a U.S. Army veteran serving during the Korean War.
Surviving are his wife of 47 years, Helen Smith Owens; two sons and daughters-in-law, Michael Owens and wife Sally, Rosedale, Va., and David Owens and wife Arbetta, Lebanon; five grandchildren, Cortney Owens, Aaron Owens, David William Owens, Adams Owens and Ashley Owens; one aunt, Kathleen Dye, Lebanon; also, several cousins.
Calling hours will be after 6 p.m. today at Combs Funeral Service, Lebanon.
Services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. H.G. Musick Jr. and the Rev. Tom Edwards officiating.
Entombment will follow in the Ketron Memorial Gardens Mausoleum.

Mary Parker, 77, Austin, Colo.
AUSTIN, Colo. - Mary Kathryn Parker, 77, died Thursday (May 16, 2002) at Delta County Memorial Hospital in Delta, Colo.
She was born on March 30, 1925 in Anthon, Iowa, to the late Charles and Mary Bennett Fuller. She married Thomas McKenzie Parker on October 15, 1945 in Oakland, Calif., and they raised six children together.
In life Mary was a loving mother and homemaker. She was a member of Mount Gilead Bethel Church in Eckert, Colo.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas; a sister, Clarise Lyons; and a brother, Fredrick Fuller.
Survivors include six sons, Charles Thomas Parker and wife Joann, Keokee, Va., William Richard Parker and wife Olagay, Lebanon, Va., Walter Frank Parker and wife Barbara, Lebanon, Va., Kenneth Robert Parker and wife Nancy, San Lorenzo, Calif., Timothy Carl Parker and wife Gloria, Gray, and Frederick Michael Parker, Grand Junction, Colo.; five brothers, Harold Fuller and wife Thora, Austin, Colo., Paul Fuller and wife Catherine, Austin, Colo., Glenn Fuller and wife Violet, Eckert, Colo., Arthur Fuller and wife Sharon, Austin, Colo., and Ardo Fuller and wife Doris, Castro Valley, Calif.; 14 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Saturday (May 18, 2002) at Mesa View Mortuary Chapel in Delta, Colo.

"Bud" Potter Jr., 1561 Carolina Ave., Kingsport, who died Wednesday (May 15, 2002), will be conducted at 2 p.m. today at Oak Hill Cemetery by American Legion Hammond Post No. 3 Color Guard with Dashiel Masonic Lodge No. 238 of Elizabethton and Chaplain Joe W. Byrd.
Pallbearers will be Don Atkins, Wallace Ketron, Freddie Walton, Carl Matherly, Wes Moricle, Graham Clark, Rick Spivey, Dennis Westmoreland and Jerry Ford.
Honorary pallbearers will be the Sullivan County and Kingsport City School administrators, former football players and all Big 9 coaches.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Bud Potter Memorial Scholarship Fund, 1561 Carolina Ave., Kingsport, Tenn. 37664.

Guy Strickler, 88, Jonesborough.
Graveside services for Guy W. Strickler, 88, Harmony community, Jonesborough, who went to be with the Lord at his residence on Thursday (May 16, 2002), will be conducted at 2 p.m. today in Oak Hill Cemetery.

Shea (Pam) Wagers, 47, Kingsport.
KINGSPORT - Shea (Pam) Gilley Wagers, 47, went to be with the Lord Saturday (May 18, 2002) at Wellmont Hospice in Bristol.
Shea was born in Sullivan County and was a resident there most of her life.
She had worked at Rental Uniform, Tennessee Eastman Co., and Kelly Services.
Shea was a very special lady and enjoyed all of God's creatures (animals), and had a special touch with animals. Shea had a lot of kindness, forgiveness and a most unique personality.
Mrs. Wagers was preceded in death by her parents; and brother.
Survivors include her husband, Otis Wagers; several stepchildren and stepgrandchildren; and a host of friends.
Calling hours will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Oak Hill Funeral Home. Friends may also call anytime at the home.
Services will be conducted at 8 p.m. today in the funeral home chapel with Pastor Mike Stout officiating.
Graveside services will be at 12 noon Monday at Oak Hill Cemetery. Family and friends will meet at the funeral home to go to the graveside services.
Pallbearers will be Brian Wagers, Timothy Otis Wagers, Jeffrey Scott Wagers, Otis Wagers Jr.
Memorials may be made to the Kingsport Animal Shelter, Idle Hour Road, Kingsport, Tenn. 37660.
