KINGSPORT - Edith Anderson went to be with the Lord Wednesday (Feb. 13, 2002).
Mrs. Anderson was born in Madison County, N.C., but had been a resident of Kingsport most of her life.
She was a member of West View Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert D. Anderson; parents, Lon and Hattie Parker; and a brother, George Parker.
Surviving are a daughter, Elizabeth Stull, Kingsport; two grandchildren, Laura Stull and James Stull, both of Kingsport; one great-grandchild, Tyler Kilgore; sister, June Adams, Augusta, Ga.; brother, John R. Parker, Lanham, Md.; several nieces and nephews.

"Bobby'' Bass Sr., 60, who went home to be with his son and father at 3:30 a.m. Tuesday (Feb. 12, 2002), will be conducted at 8 p.m. Friday in the chapel of Colboch-Price Funeral Home, Rogersville, with the Rev. Johnny Carr, the Rev. Ray Mullins and the Rev. Gary Brewer officiating.
Calling hours are from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home and anytime at the residence.
Graveside services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday at Highland Cemetery.

Shelia Sue Boggs, 63, Kingsport.
KINGSPORT - Shelia Sue Boggs, 63, 217 Chadwell Road, was called home to be with the Lord Tuesday (Feb. 12, 2002).
She was born in Scott County, Va., and had been a resident of Kingsport most of her life.
She graduated from Lynn View High School and retired from the First American Bank. She attended Taylor Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by the father of her children, Tommy Boggs, January, 2001; parents, R. Denver and Bonnie Barrett Leonard; and a nephew, John Scott Leonard.
Surviving are one daughter, Julie Boggs, Kingsport; one son and daughter-in-law, Roger and LaDana Frazier Boggs, Kingsport; two granddaughters, Laila Boggs and Marissa Boggs; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Joe and Barbara Leonard and Randall and Susie Leonard, all of Kingsport; several nieces and nephews.
Calling hours are from 5 to 7 p.m. today at Carter-Trent Funeral Home, downtown, or anytime at the residence, 217 Chadwell Road.
Services will be conducted at 7 p.m. today in the funeral home chapel with Pastor Greg DePriest officiating.

Margaret Davis, 82, Bristol, Tenn.
BRISTOL, Tenn. - Margaret Davis, 82, Godsey Road, formerly of Rogersville, died Tuesday (Feb. 12, 2002) at Wellmont Bristol Regional Medical Center after an extended illness.
She was a member of East Rogersville Baptist Church.
Mrs. Davis was preceded in death by her parents, Nicolas and Mollie Ashe Webb; and a son, Jimmy Davis.
Surviving are one daughter, Debbie Poston, Bristol, Tenn.; two sons, Garnet Davis and wife, Betty, Martinsville, Tenn., and Jerry Davis, Kingsport; one sister, Helen Stewart, Gainesville, Fla.; five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Gordon P. Flanary, 95, Cheyenne, Wyo.
CHEYENNE, Wyo. - Gordon P. Flanary, 95, died Tuesday (Feb. 12, 2002) at Cheyenne Healthcare.
Born March 8, 1906 in Speers Ferry, Va., he was a loom fixer.
He was preceded in death by his spouses, Nora Flanary, Alice Flanary and Mamie Flanary; and daughter, Margaret Wahl.
Surviving are his sons, Ivan Flanary, Cheyenne, and Gary Flanary, Kingsport; stepsons, Ray Harkleroad, Kingsport, and Jim Harkleroad, Philadelphia, Pa.; 24 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.
Services will be conducted at 3 p.m. today in the chapel of Schrader Funeral Home, Cheyenne, with Mr. Tracy Rowland officiating.
Burial will be in Mountain View Memorial Park.
Pallbearers will be Carl Flanary, Patrick Flanary, Allen Flanary, Joshua Guymon, Mike Dettling and Tom Kugler.

Father John Garvey, 74, Johnson City.
JOHNSON CITY - Father John R. Garvey, 74, entered into rest Tuesday (Feb. 12, 2002) at Johnson City Medical Center.
He was born Oct. 10, 1927 in Massachusetts to the late Darrel and Frances Garvey.
Father Garvey was a Catholic priest at St. Bernard's Catholic Church, Gate City, Va.
Calling hours are from 6 to 8 p.m. today at St. Bernard's Catholic Church. A prayer service will be at 8 p.m.
The Mass of Resurrection will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at the church with Father Roland Hautz presiding.
Burial will be in the Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Montgomery, Ohio.
Gate City Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Annie Y. Gillenwater, 93, Kingsport.
KINGSPORT - Annie Muriel Young Gillenwater, 93, of Asbury Center at Baysmont, 100 Netherland Lane, died at Baysmont on Tuesday (Feb. 12, 2002).
She was born in Dryden, Va., on April 28, 1908, the daughter of the late John Vann Young and Alpha Damaris Gillenwater Young.
Mrs. Gillenwater graduated from Dryden High School and Radford State Teachers College. She was a teacher in Lee County, Va., where she met and married Jay King Gillenwater, a chemist for Blackwood Coal Company in the now non-existent coal camp of Calvin, Va.
A Kingsport resident since 1931, she was active in several civic and social clubs.
She was a member of the First Baptist Church.
Her husband, Jay King Gillenwater, preceded her in death.
She is survived by two sons, Dr. Jay Young Gillenwater of Charlottesville, Va., and John Kenan Gillenwater of Bristol, Tenn.; one daughter, Joyce Ann Gillenwater Mottern of Jamestown, N.C.; seven grandchildren, Linda G. Bauer of Needham, Mass., Dr. Ann Gillenwater Martin of Houston, Tex., Dr. Jay M. Gillenwater of Charlottesville, Va., Robert J. Mottern of Atlanta, Ga., Susan Diane Hicks of Washington, D.C., Elizabeth Kenan Gillenwater of Bristol, Tenn., and James Jason Gillenwater of Hampden-Sydney, Va; and eight great-grandchildren.
Calling hours are from 10 to 11 a.m. today at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home, downtown Kingsport.
Graveside services will be conducted at 11:30 a.m. today in Oak Hill Cemetery with Dr. Ron Davis officiating.
Her grandchildren will serve as pallbearers.

Lillian Lovetta Green, 52, Wise, Va.
WISE, Va. - Lillian Lovetta Green, 52, passed away Wednesday (Feb. 13, 2002) at Norton Community Hospital, Norton, Va.
She was of the Freewill Baptist faith.
She was preceded in death by her father, James Earl Sproles.
Surviving are two daughters, Diana Powers and Deborah Mullins, both of Dalton, Ga.; her mother, Mary Hazel Sproles of Wise; three brothers, James G. Sproles of Wise, Larry L. Sproles of Virgie, Ky., and Gregory Allen Sproles of Weber City, Va.; one sister, Linda L. Dwyer of Elkton, Md.; and three grandchildren, Travis Brandon Mullins, Trista Nicole Mullins and Brittany Elizabeth Kent.

Mary Grubb, 73, Big Stone Gap, Va.
BIG STONE GAP, Va. - Mary Magdeline Grubb, 73, died Wednesday (Feb. 13, 2002) at Smyth County Community Hospital in Marion, Va.
She lived in Big Stone Gap all of her life and attended Appalachia Pentecostal Church.
She was a homemaker and a loving sister.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Lacie Grubb; and one brother, Jake Freeman.
Surviving are a brother, Sherman Freeman, Nanjemoy, Md.; two sisters, Victoria Fox, Big Stone Gap, Va., and Lizzie F. Rose, Coeburn, Va.; several nieces and nephews.

Ola Mae Morris, Piney Flats.
PINEY FLATS - Ola Mae Morris, 404 Cottonwood Lane, our beloved wife and mother, went to be with the Lord Tuesday (Feb. 12, 2002) at Johnson City Medical Center.
She was a native of Roanoke, Va., and had made her home in Bristol most of her life. She was the daughter of the late Hubert A. and Ola F. Williams Shelton and was also preceded in death by a brother, Richard T. Shelton.
She was a former employee of Unisys Corp. and a member of Valley Hills Baptist Church.
Surviving are her husband, Thad L. Morris; two daughters and sons-in-law, Janie F. and Eugene McCoy, Bristol, Tenn., and Wanda M. and Fred Taylor, Wichita, Kans.; one son and daughter-in-law, Larry R. and Sherry M. Davidson, Bristol, Tenn.; two stepsons, Randy Morris, Blountville, and Charlie Morris, Bristol; one brother, H.A. Shelton Jr., Kingsport; two granddaughters, Amy McCracken and Heather McCoy; one grandson, Michael McCoy; special friends, Wood and Gay Hatfield; two nephews and one niece.
The memorial service will be conducted at 7:30 p.m. Friday at Valley Hills Baptist Church with the Rev. Charles Taylor and the Rev. Scott Price officiating.
The family will receive friends at the church from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Friday prior to the service.

James Napier, 73, Chicago, Ill.
CHICAGO, Ill. - James M. Napier, 73, died Friday (Feb. 8, 2002) at his home from natural causes.
Born April 20, 1928 in Lee County, Va., he had been a resident of Illinois about 50 years. He was a veteran of the Korean War and a retired factory worker.
He was of the Baptist faith.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Milton and Beatrice Stewart Napier; two brothers, George Milton and Carlo Bob Napier; and one sister, Louvelle Napier.
Surviving are four brothers, Evan Napier, Pennington Gap, Va., Berl Napier, East Bank, W.Va., J.C. Napier, Pierceton, Ind., and Poe Napier, Argos, Ind.; five sisters, Joan Bush and Sharon Napier, both of Keokee, Va., Ann Bush, Holmes Mill, Ky., Janet Kelly, Culver, Ind., Jean Coillins, Martinsville, Ind.; and a host of nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
Calling hours are from 2 to 3 p.m. today at Province Funeral Home, Pennington Gap, Va.
Services will be conducted at 3 p.m. today in the sanctuary of the funeral home with Old Regular Baptist ministers officiating.
Burial will follow in Anderson Cemetery, Route 1, Keokee, Va.

J. Robert Neely, 85, Kingsport.
KINGSPORT - J. Robert Neely, 85, of 3021 Cliffside Road, died early Tuesday morning (Feb. 12, 2002) at his home.
A native of New Market, Ala., he finished two years of junior college in business administration at the Tennessee Military Institute in accounting and business law. After leaving TMI, Mr. Neely moved to Kingsport in 1937. He served with the U.S. Air Force during World War II.
He was employed for 17 years by Tennessee Eastman Company as an accountant and later in Sales & Purchasing. He left Eastman in 1955 to organize his own firm as a coal brokerage company, representing mines in Virginia and Kentucky.
Mr. Neely was president and owner of Gladeville Fuel Corporation and Gladeville Coal Corporation. His sales covered the areas of Virginia, Tennessee, North Carolina and Georgia. The company negotiated long-term contracts with utilities and industry.
In the early 1960's, he was co-owner of E & B Coal Corporation. During the next few years, along with three associates, the following corporations were organized: Bee Coals (mining), Nolensburg Energy (mining) and New Ben Coal Corporation.
He developed real estate in Kingsport for lease and rental, including three warehouses, an apartment building and a service station. Mr. Neely served as a member of the board of Tennessee Military Institute and was a member of the board of Interstate Railroad, a subsidiary of Norfolk & Southern Railroad. Mr. Neely was also a member of Lees-McRae College board of trustees. He was a 55-year member of the Civitan Club of Kingsport.
He had been a member of the First Presbyterian Church since 1938, where he served as a member of the board of deacons and the session.
Surviving are his wife, Charlotte Minton Neely, Kingsport; a daughter, Pat Neely, Sevierville; a sister, Willie Mae Vandiver, New Market, Ala., and several nieces and nephews.
Graveside services will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. today in Oak Hill Cemetery.
A memorial service will be conducted at 11 a.m. today at First Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Gary L.R. Bullard officiating.
The family will receive friends at the church following the memorial service.

Robert Patrick, 62, Kingsport.
KINGSPORT - Robert Lawton (Cotton) Patrick, 62, went to be with the Lord at Holston Valley Medical Center Wednesday (Feb. 13, 2002) after an extended illness.
He was born in Scott County, Va., having lived in Kingsport most of his life. He was self-employed as a horse farrier for 44 years.
He attended Arnold's Chapel Holiness Church many years ago.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Eula Juanita Patrick; one son, Carl Lawton Patrick; his parents, William and Pinky Patrick; and one sister, Lois Patrick Blair.
Surviving are sons, Billy Joe Patrick and wife Renea, of Kingsport, David Leonard Patrick and wife Sharron, of Kingsport, Ricky Lee Patrick and wife Porshia, of Kingsport; two grandchildren; sisters, Lucille McDavid, Weber City, Va., and Irene Bowen, Gate City, Va.; brother, Howard Patrick, Kingsport; two special nephews, Randall Blair and Bobby Blair; and several nieces and nephews.
Calling hours are from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Carter-Trent Funeral Home, downtown Kingsport, and anytime at the home of the son, David Patrick, 1276 Kings Meadow Private Drive, Kingsport.
Services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday in the funeral home chapel with Pastor Wrightly Salling and the Rev. Larry Hall officiating.
Burial will be in the Breeding-Hartsock Cemetery in Nickelsville, Va.

MEMPHIS, Tenn. - Services for Ethel B. Piercy, 101, formerly of Kingsport, who died Sunday (Feb. 10, 2002), will be conducted at 12 noon today in the Carter-Trent Funeral Home Chapel, downtown, with the Rev. Ronald Hicks and the Rev. Frank Crawford officiating.
Burial will be at the Bethesda Cemetery in Morristown.

Shiftley Queen, 80, Gray.
GRAY - Shiftley E. Queen, 80, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday (Feb. 13, 2002) at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center after a brief illness.
He was a veteran of World War II, having served with the U.S. Navy.
Mr. Queen retired from Eastman Chemical Company. He was of the Baptist faith, and was a loving father, and friend to many.
His parents, James and Ethel Queen; wife, Ruth Queen; and two brothers, Hubert Queen and Kenneth Queen, preceded him in death.
Surviving are one son, Sean Queen, Gray; two sisters, Juanita Roache, Kingsport, Betty Horton and husband A.J., Kingsport; one brother, Paul Queen, Kingsport; and several nieces and nephews.

Thomas Sanders, 86, Gate City, Va.
GATE CITY, Va. - Thomas Sanders, 86, formerly of Gate City, departed this life Wednesday (Feb. 13, 2002) at the Greystone Health Care, Blountville.

Roscoe Sivert, 79, Gate City, Va.
GATE CITY, Va. - Roscoe Sivert, 79, went to be with the Lord Wednesday (Feb 13, 2002) at Holston Valley Medical Center.
He was born Aug. 26, 1922 in Scott County, Va., and attended Providence Baptist Church. He retired from Eastman Kodak after 40 years of service.
He was the son of the late William Perry and Emma Grimm Sivert.
Including his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Emma Olen Sivert; two sisters, Lela Lane and Chlotile Chapman; three brothers, Dee, Joe and Charles Sivert.
Surviving are his wife of 54 years, Edna Opal Sivert, Gate City, Va.; four daughters and sons-in-law, Judy and Hollis Anderson, Gate City, Va., Janet and Bill Blair, Church Hill, Mary and Jim Judkins, Church Hill, and Robin and C.M. Bond, Nickelsville, Va.; son and daughter-in-law, David and Pam Sivert, Gate City, Va.; one special grandson, Terry Sivert, Gate City, Va.; 15 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
Calling hours are from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Gate City Funeral Home.
Services will be conducted at 8 p.m. Friday in the Gene Falin Memorial Chapel of the funeral home with the Rev. Charles Keesee and the Rev. Lonnie Wooten, Jr. officiating.

Graveside services will conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Sivert Family Cemetery, Waycross community, Stanley Valley.

Delmar Sybert, 67, Gate City, Va.
GATE CITY, Va. - Delmar Reece Sybert, 67, passed away Tuesday (Feb. 12, 2002) at Holston Valley Medical Center.
Born in Lee County, Va., on Sept. 30, 1934, he was the son of the late Rev. Herbert Bernard Sybert and Roxie Russell Sybert. He had lived in the Big Stone Gap area before moving to Dayton, Ohio, where he had worked as a security guard for 20 years. Mr. Sybert had lived in Scott County for the last five years.
Mr. Sybert was of the Baptist faith.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Christine Sybert; sisters, Betty Jane Sybert, Doris Bradshaw, Myrtle Sybert; brothers, James P. Sybert, Norman Sybert and Elbert Sybert.
Surviving are sisters and brother-in-law, Pearl Sybert Ryan, Wanda B. and Ronald Persinger, Kingsport; brother and sister-in-law, Ronnie L. and Deloris Sybert, Denver, Colo.; sister-in-law, Gertrude Sybert, Big Stone Gap, Va.; several nieces and nephews.
Calling hours are from 11 a.m. to 12 noon Friday at Colonial Funeral Home, Weber City, Va.
Services will be conducted at 12 noon Friday at the funeral home chapel with Elder John Henry Sybert and Elder Howard Sybert officiating.
Burial will be at Sybert Family Cemetery in the Wallen Creek community.
Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Sybert Family Cemetery Fund, c/o Howard Sybert, 12918 Carter Valley Road, Gate City, Va. 24251.

Marjorie Thomas, 74, Gray.
GRAY - Marjorie Lynn Cox Thomas, 74, 116 Heritage Road, passed away Wednesday (Feb. 13, 2002) at her residence after a period of declining health.
She was a native of Sullivan County and had resided in the area most of her life. She was the daughter of the late Ezra and Bertha Cox.
She was retired from Texas Instruments.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her two sons, Jeffrey Harold Thomas and Jimmy Roy Thomas, of Gray; three brothers, Jim Thomas, Harold Thomas and Walter Thomas; two sisters, Opal Ferguson and Nannie Rhea Moody.
Survivors include her husband, Harold Thomas; daughters, Hope Boyce, Nashville, Kathy Sawyer, Johnson City, and Vickie Thomas, Gray; son, Michael Thomas, Lexington, Va.; daughters-in-law, Jane Thomas, Gray, and Becky Hooks, Johnson City; grandsons, Jason Pyle, Chris Boyce, Bill Sawyer and Jon Thomas; granddaughters, Jennifer Ciroli, Jennifer Boyce, Heather Blake, Amanda Sawyer, Kristen Thomas, Jo Thomas, Ashley Boyce and Krystyna Pyle; great-granddaughter, Olivia Ciroli; sisters, Norma Fink and Elva Rowland; brother, Basil Cox; several nieces and nephews.
Calling hours will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Snyder's Funeral Home, Gray.
Services will be conducted at 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home with Dr. Vic Young of Fountain of Life Bible Church officiating.
Burial will be at 11:30 a.m. Saturday at Monte Vista Memorial Gardens. Those attending the graveside services will meet at 10:45 a.m. at the funeral home to go in procession to the cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Jon Thomas, Bill Sawyer, Jason Pyle, Jamey Friday, Mike Dixon and Brian Meade.
Honorary pallbearers will be Denny Friday, David Friday, Michael Boyce, Bobby Sawyer and Raymond Hooks.

WHITESBURG, Tenn. - Graveside services for Jessie Ruth Williams, Mt. Zion Road, who died Monday (Feb. 11, 2002), will be conducted at 11 a.m. today at Courtney Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Courtney Cemetery Perpetual Care Fund, 595 Melinda Ferry Road, Rogersville, Tenn. 37857.
Broome Funeral Home, Rogersville, is in charge of arrangements.

ROGERSVILLE - Ruth Young, 93, passed away Wednesday morning (Feb. 13, 2002) at Ridgeview Terrace of Rutledge, after an extended illness.
Arrangements are incomplete at this time and will be announced by Colboch-Price Funeral Home, Rogersville.
